Hi, I'm David Marti and, together with Montse Ribe,
we are the supervisors of Especial Effects DDT.
DDT Is a company, a workshop, that was born in 1991
with the crazy idea of making monsters.
These monsters you see here are not digital,
they are made of flesh and bone or, rather, of silicone and foam.
So, we have decided to show you what we do,
how we do it and what is the final result.
In this channel we will upload different kinds of videos
-either making ofs,
behind the scenes, tutorials, interviews and any
other thing we consider interesting enough
about make-up effects and special effects.
This channel is addressed both to professionals,
amateurs, and people who have no clue of
what I'm talking about
and want to make their living by making these cool
things you see here.
Our craft will be probably defined as archaeology
by some ... And madness by others
And it's true, nowadays it is quite difficult that
somebody hire you to create a monster.
Fortunately, we still have directors who work
with this kind of monsters…
Such as Guillermo del Toro
who, with Pan's Labyrinth, took us all the way
to win an Oscar…
Yes, I had hair...
J.A Bayona, Amenábar, Daniel Monzón,
Almodovar, Jaume Balagueró, Paco Plaza and many
other directors we love because they still want to have
this kind of wonders, these characters, puppets,
whatever, in their movies.
In this job, you need to be many things you need to be
an sculptor, you need to be a painter, you need to be
a mold specialist…. A make-up artist, a hair dresser…
you need to know about physics, about chemistry,
about many other things.
The range of jobs inside this job is very, very wide.
Anyway, actually, it's not only Montse and me that make
all these monsters possible at DDT…We have
of wonderful people, some crazier than others,
who have been here or are still working with us…
All of us, together, create these monster, from design
to the actual shooting.
But let's not waste too much time with this introduction
video and let's have our tour around the workshop!

He is a master! I call him the master of Z-Brush,
of Photoshop…
He makes amazing stuff.
Now we're getting to the main area,
the place where we usually have more
technicians, artists working ...
Sometimes this can be really, really busy.

She makes a lil bit of everything.
From a budget to a sculpture, a mold, painting,
sawing
… everything!
Jose Manuel!
Hello.
Hi, how are you doing?
Jose Manuel is also a bit of an artist, an engineer,
a programmer, a little bit of everything.
This is Gerard.
He's one of the youngest in the DDT gang.
He's also fixing a head…
And here we have Xavi!
I'd say Xavi is the oldest guy
on the house, the two supervisors aside… and
now he's more focused on mechanics…
This is some mechanism that he have done for a
personal project.
And here we have Marcos.
He's been with us for a long time...
in our adventures with DDT.
He is restoring a model for A MONSTER CALLS.
And here we find…?
Natalia, who is making...
a silicone, a silicone gel to fill up these molds
for a TV show we are shooting just now.
Well, I hope you liked the tour around the workshop.
We will be introducing these people, these artists,
one by one.
We will show you their specialties, what they do,
how they do it and why they do it.
But it will be on future videos.

that can fit in a one-minute video.

of doing some longer, making-of videos,
that we will be showing to you.
