>> HI, AND WELCOME TO

MID-AMERICAN GARDENER.

WE'RE GLAD THAT YOU'VE JOINED US

BECAUSE WE'RE HERE TO TALK ABOUT

PLANTS.

MAYBE DISEASES.

AND ALL KINDS OF INTERESTING

THINGS TO DO ON THE INDOOR AND

THE OUTDOOR GARDEN.

SO THANK YOU.

AND LET'S SEE WHAT IS GOING TO

HAPPEN TODAY, BECAUSE WE'RE

REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO IT.

MY NAME IS DIANNE NOLAND, AND I

TEACH HORTICULTURE AT THE

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS.

I'LL HANDLE PLANT QUESTIONS LIKE

PERENNIALS OR CUT FLOWERS.

HOWEVER, THERE ARE THREE HIGHLY

INTELLIGENT AND TALENTED PEOPLE

HERE TODAY.

AND LET'S FIND OUT WHO IS HERE,

AND THEY'LL MAYBE ANSWER A

QUESTION OR TWO.

CHUCK VOIGT, LET'S START WITH

YOU.

>> HELLO, DIANNE.

I AM CHUCK VOIGT.

AND I RETIRED FROM THE

DEPARTMENT OF CROP SCIENCES

WHERE I WAS A VEGETABLE AND HERB

SPECIALIST.

SO THOSE ARE THE AREAS WHERE WE

CAN FIND SOME COMMON GROUND

TONIGHT.

I HAVE A QUESTION.

IT'S ABOUT PEP DUE PEPPERS.

AND JUST A --

>> HOW DO YOU SPELL PEP DUE.

>> PEPPADAW.

THE QUESTION IS ABOUT THOSE.

THE PERSON USED THEM FOR THE

FIRST TIME CHRISTMAS DAY.

STUFFED WITH A GARLIC GOAT

CHEESE.

AND, WOW, WERE THEY TERRIFIC.

SPICY AND A LITTLE SWEET AT THE

SAME TIME.

I DON'T WANT TO GROW THEM.

I CURRENTLY GROW POBLANO AND

JALAPENO PEPPERS.

I WONDERED IF THE PEPPADUES

WOULD BE SIMILAR IN DIFFERENT

GROWING CONDITIONS.

WELL, HERE IS WHAT I FOUND OUT

ABOUT PAPPADEW PEPPERS.

SUPPOSEDLY A STRING WILL STRAY

PLANT WAS FOUND IN SOUTH AFRICA

THAT HAD THESE SMALL,

THICK-WALLED CHERRY PEP PERS ON

IT.

AND A COMPANY SEIZED UPON THAT

AND REGISTERED THE TRADEMARK

PEPPADEW.

SO IF YOU CAN GROW THEM, YOU

CAN'T CALL THEM PEPPADEW BECAUSE

THAT WOULD BE TRADEMARK

INFRINGEMENT.

AND THERE'S ALSO SOME QUESTION

AS TO WHETHER IT'S THE

UNIQUENESS OF THE PEPPERS

THEMSELVES OR THE PROCESS BY

WHICH THEY'RE CANNED AND SENT

OUT AND MARKETED.

AND KIND OF LIKE SOME OF THE

SPICE ISLAND TRADE WAY BACK A

FEW CENTURIES AGO, THEY'RE VERY

TIGHT ABOUT -- THEY DON'T WANT

THE SEEDS TO GET OFF WHERE

THEY'RE GROWING THEM.

BUT IF YOU GO ON THE INTERNET,

YOU DO SEE PEOPLE WHO HAVE OR

THINK THEY HAVE THEM AND ARE

OFFERING TO SPREAD THEM AROUND

TO THEIR FRIENDS.

SO THE OTHER THING I WOULD SAY

IS CALL THEM SOMETHING ELSE

BECAUSE YOU DON'T WANT TO GET

INTO A TRADEMARK WAR WITH

SOMEBODY WHO HAS MORE MONEY THAN

LAWYERS.

>> MOTIVATION.

>> YES.

>> PEPPADEW.

WE HAVE LEARNED SOMETHING HERE

TODAY.

>> AND THEY SHOULD -- I THINK

IT'S JUST A REGULAR -- IT'S THE

SAME AS THE OTHER PEPPERS.

THEY SHOULD GROW THE SAME WAY.

START THEM INDOORS.

PUT THEM OUT IN MID TO LATE MAY.

>> AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS.

OKAY.

GOOD.

THANK YOU, CHUCK, VERY MUCH.

AND NOW LET'S GO TO JIM

SCHUSTER.

>> HI.

I'M JIM SCHUSTER.

I'M A RETIRED HORTICULTURE AND

PLANT PATHOLOGIST.

AND I GOT E-MAILS TODAY ASKING

ABOUT THIS DISEASE AND IT'S PEST

LA P E S T O -- P E S T A L O T

I A.

THIS IS A GENUS, AND IT HAS 50

DIFFERENT SPECIES.

IT REALLY LOVES JUNIPERS AND

ARBOR VIE TAS IN ILLINOIS.

YOU CAN SEE THE PICTURE UP HERE.

IT'S ON THE EDGE OF THE NEEDLE.

BUT IT LOOKS BETTER THAN SMALL

TWIGS AND EVEN INTO LARGER

TWIGS.

AND IT'S KNOWN TO KILL LARGE AND

THE LARGER ONES TEND TO ATTACK

LOWER LIMBS ON THE TREES.

IT LIKES THIS WEATHER WE'RE

HAVING NOW.

IT LIKES COOL, DAMP WEATHER

BECAUSE IT STRESSES THE PLANTS.

AND THIS DISEASE ACTUALLY COMES

IN THREE FORMS.

AN ENDOPHYTE WHICH MEANS IT

LIVES IN HEALTHY AREAS.

IT'S A STEP FOOIT WHICH MEANS IT

EATS SOMETHING THAT'S ALREADY

DEAD.

THERE'S SOME OF THESE SPCIES

THAT ARE LIVING IN A HEALTHY

PLANT WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM.

IT GOES UNDER STRESS AND IT

STARTS KILLING IT.

WHENEVER IT KILLS IT, IT DIGESTS

IT.

ANYWAY, KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR

EVERGREENS, ESPECIALLY THE ARBOR

VIE TAS.

AND IT'S MOSTLY ON THE UPRIGHT

TREES I SEE IT WORSE.

I'VE SEEN IT ON THE UPRIGHT JUNE

PERS I HAVE SEEN IT A LOT THIS

TIME OF YEAR.

AND WHEN IT'S ON THE BRANCHES,

YOU CUT THE BRANCH OFF.

IF IT'S ON THE SIDE BRANCH OF

THE TWIG, YOU CUT THE BRANCH

OFF.

IF IT'S ON THE LEAVES LIKE THIS,

LIVE WITH IT.

WAIT UNTIL IT DRIES OUT.

[ LAUGHING ]

>> I DON'T KNOW ANY FUNGICIDE

THAT WORKS ON IT.

>> OKAY.

>> AT LEAST IT DIDN'T GET THE

CHAINSAW.

>> RIGHT.

OH, BOY.

LIVE WITH IT.

JIM, THANK YOU.

AND NOW LET'S GO TO DR. TOM

VOIGT.

>> HI, DIANNE.

I'M TOM VOIGT.

I WORK IN THE DEPARTMENT OF CROP

SCIENCES AND I WORK WITH

PERENNIAL GRASSES, TURF GRASSES,

ORNAMENTAL GRASSES.

WHILE NOT A GRASS, I BROUGHT

FROM MY SHOW-AND-TELL TONIGHT, I

BROUGHT A WEED THAT WE HAD SEEN

A LOT OF RECENTLY.

>> OH, YES.

>> THIS IS HEN BIT.

HEN BIT IS A COOL SEASON ANNUAL

WEED IN THE MINT FAMILY.

IF YOU'VE BEEN OUT IN THE FAMILY

AND SEEN PURPLE FIELDS AS YOU'VE

DRIVEN BY THEM, YOU'RE SEEING

HEN BIT IN BLOOM.

SO AS A COOL SEASON ANNUAL, HEN

BIT STARTED TO -- THE SEEDS

GERMINATED LAST FALL OR EARLY

WINTER.

AND THEY STARTED GROWING AGAIN

AS WE GOT WARMER CONDITIONS AND

MOISTURE AND FLOWER.

AND THEY'LL DIE -- THESE PLANTS

WILL DIE AS TEMPERATURES GET

WARMER.

IF YOU WANT TO USE A HERBICIDE

TO CONTROL THIS, YOU WOULD HAVE

HAD TO PUT IT DOWN AT THE END OF

SUMMER OR EARLY IN FALL TO

CONTROL IT AT THAT TIME.

IT'S EASY TO PULL.

IT'S AN ANNUAL.

IT HASN'T DEVELOPED A HUGE ROOT

SYSTEM.

BUT RIGHT NOW IT'S IN BLOOM AND

PROBABLY MAKING LOTS OF SEEDS

FOR THE FUTURE.

>> OH, YEAH.

SO GET AHEAD OF THE SEED.

>> BY THE WAY, IT'S IN THE MINT

FAMILY.

AND ONE OF THE INTERESTING --

LIKE GROUND IVEY, GROUND IVY IS

A PERENNIAL.

ONE INTERESTING THING IS THEY

HAVE SQUARE STEMS.

IF YOU HAVE A WEED THAT HAS

SQUARE STEMS, IT'S VERY POSSIBLY

IN THE MINT FAMILY.

>> SOMETIMES IT GETS

MISDIAGNOSED AS GROUND IVY.

>> IT DOES.

AND THIS ONE HAS THE SMALLER

LEAVE AND THE PER FOAL YIT

LEAVES OR THE LEAVES JOINED

AROUND THE BASE AT THE STEM.

>> RIGHT.

IT DOESN'T TEND TO CREEP AND

ROOT AT ALL OF THOSE THINGS?

>> YES.

GROUND IVY IS PROBABLY THE WEED

I GET THE MOST CALLS ABOUT.

OR CREEPING CHARLIE.

>> YES.

IT'S MUCH MORE PERNICIOUS.

>> YES.

>> I HAVEN'T SEEN A FLOWERING --

GROUND IVY FLOWERING YET.

>> I HAVE.

>> I SECOND THAT.

>> OH.

>> A FEW FLOWERS.

>> IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN AT MY

HOUSE TOO.

[ LAUGHING ]

>> I HAVE TO GET GOING.

>> I HAD DANDELIONS LAST WEEK.

>> OH, BOY.

GOOD.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

IT'S GOOD -- BECAUSE I HAVE HAD

A LOT OF PEOPLE ASK ME WHAT'S

THE PURPLE.

AND I DON'T EVEN LET THEM FINISH

THE SENTENCE.

I SAY HEN BIT.

WE'VE SEEN A LOT OF IT.

THE PURPLE HEN BIT.

[ LAUGHING ]

>> WELL, SAY, I WANT TO FOLLOW

UP ON A QUESTION FROM LAST WEEK.

SOMEONE TALKED ABOUT A TREE, A

WHITE FLOWERING TREE.

A RELATIVE IN SOUTHERN ILLINOIS.

SHE DIDN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT THAT

PERSON HAD SAID.

SHE THOUGHT IT WAS SOFUS.

BUT AFTER THE TREE WE THOUGHT

MAYBE IT WAS SORBIS.

I HAVE A SECOND ONE IT MIGHT BE.

WE HAD A PICTURE OF SORBIS.

IT'S A DECIDUOUS TREE CALLED

MOUNTAIN ASH.

IT WILL GET THE CLUSTERED

FRUITS.

SO IT COULD HAVE BEEN SORBIS.

I DON'T HAVE PICTURES OF THE

SECOND ONE, BUT YOU CAN SEE THE

MOUNTAIN ASH RIGHT THERE.

THE SECOND PLANT IT COULD HAVE

BEEN, I WANT TO THANK DEE

BECAUSE SHE BROUGHT THIS TO MY

ATTENTION.

IT COULD BE SOPHORA AND THAT IS

THE PAGODA TREE.

IT'S IN THE PEA FAMILY.

IT COULD BE YELLOW FLOWERS AND

IT COULD BE VIOLET FLOWERS.

BUT ANYWAY, IT CAN GET QUITE A

BIT TALLER.

IT SAYS ZONE 5, BUT I THINK IT'S

PROBABLY ZONE 6, WHICH WE TALKED

ABOUT BEFORE THE SHOW THAT ZONE

6 IS CREEPING FARTHER NORTH IN

ILLINOIS-INDIANA-MISSOURI RANGE.

SO I THINK IT ACTUALLY IS ZONE

6.

SO THAT'S WHY WE DON'T SEE IT AS

MUCH HERE, BUT WE DO SEE IT IN

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS.

OKAY.

THANK YOU FOR EVERYONE FOR THAT.

AND SO IT TOOK A COMMITTEE TO

KIND OF ANSWER THAT QUESTION,

AND I THANK YOU FOR THAT.

LET'S GO TO OUR SPECIAL DID YOU

KNOW VIDEO NEXT.

>> ORGANISMS WHICH CAUSE PLANT

DISEASE INCREASE IF YOU GROW THE

SAME PLANT IN A SINGLE LOCATION

YEAR AFTER YEAR.

THIS CAN BE PREVENTED BY

ROTATING PLANTS TO OTHER PARTS

OF YOUR GARDEN.

>> THAT IS A GREAT IDEA.

I ROTATE MY VEGETABLE GARDEN

DEFINITELY.

WELL, WE ARE GOING TO GO TO THE

PHONE LINES NOW.

AND MARY KAY HAS A PERENNIAL

QUESTION ON LINE TWO.

HI, MARY KAY.

>> HI.

THANK YOU FOR TAKING MY CALL.

>> YOU'RE WELCOME.

>> CALLER: I GOT A FEW BASKETS

OF FLOWERS FROM MY BROTHER'S

FUNERAL AND THEY HAVE HYACINTHE

AND TULIPS AND DAFFODIL AND EVEN

A HYDRANGEA BUSH IN ONE.

I WANT TO BE ABLE TO KEEP THEM

AND PLANT THEM IN THE YARD

AGAIN.

I'M NOT SURE WHAT I CAN DO TO DO

THAT.

>> I'LL HANDLE THE BULB QUESTION

IF SOMEONE WANTS TO DO THE

HYDRANGEA.

YOU WILL TREAT THOSE BULBS AS IF

THEY ARE ANNUALS.

YOU'LL ENJOY THEM IN THE HOUSE.

AND THEN YOU'LL WATER THEM UNTIL

THE LEAVES HAVE YELLOWED.

AND THAT'S CALLED RIPENING.

AT THAT TIME, THEN YOU CAN

DIVIDE THOSE AND HYACINTHE AND

TULIPS AND THE BIGGER DAFFODILS

ARE PLANTED SIX INCHES DEEP BY

SIX INCH SPACING.

IF YOU HAVE THE SMALLER HEADED

DAFFODILS, THAT'S A THREE INCH

DEEP BY THREE INCH SPACING.

AND YOU CAN PLANT THEM AFTER

THEY'RE RIPENED.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL

FALL.

YOU CAN WAIT UNTIL FALL.

BUT IT JUST GOES DORMANT.

YOU PLANT IT.

IT STAYS DORMANT UNTIL ROOT

INITIATATION AND FLOWER

INITIATATION WITH COLD WEATHER.

NOW, HYDRANGEA, DOES ANYBODY

WANT TO ANSWER THAT?

>> WELL, I'LL TRY.

>> THAT A BOY.

>> WELL, I DON'T KNOW HOW BIG IT

IS.

BUT THE SOONER YOU CAN GET IT

PLANTED OUTSIDE, THE BETTER OFF

YOU WILL BE.

BECAUSE I'M ASSUMING IT'S IN

FULL LEAF BECAUSE IT'S IN THE

POT AND GROWING.

SO YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO WATCH

THE TEMPERATURE.

YOU DON'T WANT TO BE PUTTING IT

OUT WHEN WE'RE GOING TO HAVE

FROST OR REALLY COLD WEATHER

BECAUSE IT IS IN FULL LEAF.

BUT I WOULD PLANT IT OUT AND

MAKE SURE IT'S FULLY WATERED.

HYDRANGEAS DO PREFER FULL SUN

AND GOOD DRAINAGE.

AND YOU MAY WANT TO CONSIDER

MULCHING IT JUST BEFORE THE HOT,

DRY WEATHER OCCURS.

IT'S EASIER TO KEEP IT MOIST.

AND DEPENDING ON THE SIZE OF THE

PLANT, FIGURE AT LEAST THIS YEAR

AND MAYBE EVEN NEXT YEAR FOR

ESTABLISHMENT WITH ENOUGH WHERE

IT'S SPREAD OUT.

AND WHEN YOU'RE TAKING IT OUT OF

THE POT, CHECK TO SEE IF THE

ROOTS ARE GROWING AROUND IN A

CIRCLE.

BECAUSE IF THEY ARE, YOU EITHER

NEED TO PULL THEM APART OR TAKE

A KNIFE AND SLICE THE ROOTS

ABOUT THREE OR FOUR INCHES

AROUND.

AND MAKE SURE YOU CUT.

YOU HAVE ALL OF THE ROOTS.

OTHERWISE IT CAN CAUSE A LOT OF

PROBLEMS LATER ON DOWN THE ROAD

AND CAUSE THE PLANT TO DIE.

SO MAKE SURE YOU CUT THEM OR

SPREAD THEM OUTWARD.

AND THEN PLANT THEM.

AND MAKE SURE THAT THE SOIL IN

THE POT IS EQUAL TO THE SOIL ON

THE GROUND WHEN YOU ARE DONE

PLANTING.

>> THAT'S A GOOD POINT ABOUT THE

CIRCLING ROOTS.

ANYTHING YOU CAN ROUGH UP THE

ROOTS.

DID YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO ADD,

CHUCK?

>> WELL, THE -- AFTER THEY'VE

BEEN FORCED, DAFFODILS COME UP

BETTER JUST GENERALLY SPEAKING.

>> HYACINTHE COME BACK.

DAFFODILS ARE THE BEST,

HYACINTHE AND THEN TULIPS.

>>.

>> CAN I ADD ANOTHER ONE.

I HAVE FOUND THAT IT WORKS GREAT

ON SANDY SOIL.

IT DOES NOT WORK WELL ON REALLY

HEAVY CLAY.

I HAVE HEAVY CLAY.

I ALWAYS PLANT THEM AT ABOUT

FOUR INCHES.

>> OKAY.

>> THAT'S AT THE BASE OF THE

BULB.

>> RIGHT.

AT THE BASE.

>> IT'S AT THE BOTTOM.

>> MOST TROWELS HAVE A SIX INCH

SOIL ON THEM.

IF YOU MOVE TO HOLLAND, THEN

YOU'RE GOING TO PLANT IT EIGHT

INCHES DEEP BECAUSE IT'S VERY

SANDY.

I DON'T MEAN HOLLAND, MICHIGAN.

>> THEY GROW SOME THERE.

>> THEY DO BECAUSE THEY HAVE

SANDY SOIL.

SO 4, 6 OR 8 INCHES, DEPENDING

ON THE SOIL.

OKAY.

VERY GOOD.

THANKS FOR ALL OF THOSE

COMMENTS.

SO LET'S GO TO DONNA'S QUESTION

ABOUT HONEYSUCKLE ON LINE FIVE.

HI, DONNA.

>> CALLER: HI.

THANK YOU FOR TAKING MY CAR.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> CALLER: HOW DO YOU KILL IT

SO IT WILL NEVER COME BACK?

>> THAT IS A VERY GREAT

QUESTION.

I'M GOING TO LOOK AT EVERYONE

ELSE OVER HERE SO I CAN LISTEN

FOR MYSELF.

>> I'M GOING TO SUGGEST SOME

ROUNDUP AFTER IT'S FULLY LEAFED

OUT.

IT MAY -- GIVE IT A COUPLE OF

WEEKS TO SPREAD DOWN.

IF IT DOESN'T WANT TO DIE IN TWO

WEEKS, RESPRAY IT.

IF IT IS DYING OR YOU WANT TO

TRY THIS, YOU CAN CUT IT OFF

ABOUT AN INCH FROM THE GROUND,

EVERYTHING OFF, AND THEN YOU

HAVE TO GET SOME KILLER.

AND YOU TAKE ALL OF THE STEMS

AND HELP KILL ALL OF THE CHUTES.

THE BIGGEST PROBLEM YOU'RE GOING

TO HAVE IS TRYING TO GET ALL OF

THOSE ROOTS TO DIE.

BECAUSE IF YOU LEAVE ANY ROOTS,

IT'S GOING TO TRY TO REGROW.

>> THAT'S ADDRESSING A BIG ONE.

I WAS WEEDING SMALLER ONES

YESTERDAY.

AND AT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR,

DON'T WAIT UNTIL IT'S DRY AND

HOT.

BUT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR, THEY

WILL PULL.

AND WE'RE TALKING A FOOT, MAYBE

18 INCHES.

SINGLE STEM THING.

>> ONE YEAR TO MAYBE TWO.

>> YES.

AND THAT IS IT.

I MEAN, I'M PRETTY -- I'M NOT

THAT STRONG.

>> YES, YOU ARE.

YOU'RE PRETTY.

>> NO.

I MEAN MUSCULAR.

>> THAT TOO.

[ LAUGHING ]

>> BUT YOU REALLY HAVE TO KEEP

AT IT.

>> I THINK I MIGHT EVEN GO A

LITTLE BIT HARDER CORE THAN

ROUNDUP.

>> OKAY.

>> IF SHE'S LOOKING FOR MAYBE

SOMETHING THAT CONTAINS SOME

OTHER BROAD LEAF HERBICIDE THAT

WOULD BE TAKEN UP BY THE FOLIAGE

AND WOULD BE TRANSLOCATED.

LIKE ROUNDUP IS BUT A LITTLE

MORE AGGRESSIVE ON A BROAD LEAF

PLANT THAN ROUNDUP WOULD BE.

THERE ARE SOME BRUSH KILLERS

THAT WOULD CONTAIN A BROAD LEAF

HERBICIDE.

>> AND THE SAME THING WORKS

PRETTY WELL FOR PAINTING THE --

YOU PUT IT AROUND THE CAMBY YUM

OR THE CUTOFF STEM, AND THAT HAS

SOME EFFECT.

YOU MAY HAVE TO DO IT MORE THAN

ONCE.

>> AND YOU HAVE TO GET IT OUT

THIS YEAR AND THEN BIRDS WILL

VISIT OTHER PEOPLE'S YARDS EVERY

OTHER YEAR.

SO IT'S REALLY -- YOU HAVE TO BE

VIGILANT.

AND WHY YOU'RE AT IT, PULL THE

GARLIC MUSTARD.

THAT IS BAD NEWS.

BEAUTIFUL ROUNDED FOLIAGE.

IT'S REALLY FUN TO KEEP OUT.

YES.

>> INTERESTING.

I HAD A COMMENT ABOUT GARLIC

MUSTARD.

>> DO IT.

>> OKAY.

THE PERSON HAS NOTICED A MARKED

DECLINE IN GARLIC MUSTARD

POPULATION IN HER WOODED ROW FAR

BACK YARD.

AND IF YOU'VE GONE DOWN AND SHE

GOOGLED THE TOPIC AND FOUND THE

ANSWER IN A REPORT BY U OF I

RESEARCHERS THAT GARLIC MUSTARD

POPULATIONS ARE LIKELY TO

DECLINE.

I THOUGHT THAT WAS VERY

INTERESTING SINCE YOU MENTIONED

THE NAME.

>> THAT IS VERY INTERESTING.

>> AND IT IS ONLY JUST FOUND AT

THE EDGE OF MY WOODS IN KANKAKEE

COUNTY.

>> WE NEED TO FIND OUT WHY IT'S

VERY LIKELY TO DECLINE.

>> WHEN WE GET OFF THE AIR,

WE'LL GOOGLE IT AND SEE.

>> OKAY. MAYBE EVERYONE IS

PULLING THEM.

THEY'RE EASY TO PULL.

BUT WHEN THEY'RE IN FLOWER, DO

NOT DROP THEM DOWN BACK INTO THE

WOODS.

BECAUSE THEIR SEED WILL COME

BACK UP.

>> WHILE THEY'RE YOUNG AND

VIGOROUS, THEY MAKE PRETTY

DECENT PESTS.

>> MAYBE THAT'S WHY THEY'RE

LIKELY TO DECLINE.

>> I DON'T THINK THERE'S THAT

MANY PESTS AROUND.

>> OKAY.

[ LAUGHING ]

>> YOU KNOW, I JUST SEE THEM IN

RANDOM PLACES THAT PEOPLE DON'T

-- THEY'RE NOT AWARE OF WHAT

EVEN THEY ARE YET.

SO THEY'RE GOING WHAT IS MUSTARD

AND GET RID OF IT.

LET'S MOVE ALONG.

LET'S GO TO LINDA'S QUESTION ON

LINE THREE ABOUT A TREE.

HI, LINDA.

>> CALLER: HI.

I HAVE A MAGNOLIA THAT'S

BLOOMING THIS SPRING, A PURPLE

ONE, AND IT'S ABOUT FIVE YEARS

OLD.

I WOULD SAY IT'S ABOUT SIX OR

SEVEN FEET TALL.

AND I'VE LET IT GROW LIKE A

SHRUB.

SO IT HAS ONE MAIN LEADER AND

THEN SOME OTHERS.

NOW, I LIVE IN STRASBURG WHICH

IS A LITTLE HOUSE ON THE

PRAIRIE.

>> UH-HUH.

>> AND WE HAVE WIND.

>> WIND.

>> CALLER: WIND, WIND, WIND.

THAT THING HAS GOTTEN KNOCKED TO

THE NORTH.

IS THERE A WAY I CAN GENTLY PULL

THAT UPRIGHT OVER A PERIOD OF

TIME, TWO OR THREE YEARS,

WITHOUT HURTING THE ROOT SYSTEM?

>> I THINK JIM OR TOM OR CHUCK.

EITHER ONE.

>> I HAD ONE THAT WAS A MAGNOLIA

THAT WAS -- THERE WAS A BIGGER

TREE SOUTH OF IT.

AND SO IT TENDED TO -- I HAD

SOME SUCCESS PUTTING IN LIKE A

STEEL POST AND GENTLY PULLING IT

AS FAR AS IT FELT LIKE IT WAS

GOING TO GO.

THE WIRE.

I PUT A SECTION OF OLD GARDEN

HOSE ON THAT.

AND IF YOU DON'T OVERDO IT, YOU

CAN MAYBE GET IT BACK PART WAY

AND THEN THE NEXT YEAR MAYBE

TIGHTEN IT UP A LITTLE MORE.

>> AND HOW WELL THAT WORKS OFTEN

DEPENDS ON HOW HEAVY THE SOIL IS

OR HOW SANDY THE SOIL.

THE LIGHTER IT IS, THE EASIER IT

IS TO PULL IT BACK UP.

THE MORE CLAY THERE IS, THE

HARDER THAT'S GOING TO BE.

>> YES, I WAS DOING IT ON SANDY

SOIL.

>> I WOULD TRY IT.

OR I WOULD REPLACE IT.

>> YES.

BECAUSE OTHERWISE IT'S GOING TO

ALMOST BE MAKING A BMD.

YOU WOULD ALMOST HAVE TO DIG IT

IN PLACE.

BUT A FIVE YEAR TREE.

>> YES.

>> I WOULD GUESS IT STARTED

LEANING WHEN IT WAS FIRST

PLANTED AND DIDN'T HAVE A ROOT

SYSTEM.

AND ONE OF THE THINGS WE USED TO

RECOMMEND THAT PEOPLE PUT IN

EVERGREENS AS A SMALL WIND

BREAK, WE RECOMMEND FOR THE

FIRST FOUR OR FIVE YEARS UNTIL

THEY'RE WELL ESTABLISHED A WIND

BREAK MADE OUT OF, SAY, BURLAP

OR FENCE LINK THAT WOULD HELP

HOLD DOWN THE PLANT UNTIL IT'S

WELL ROOTED.

>> AND IF YOU'RE LITTLE HOUSE ON

THE PRAIRIE, THAT'S A LOT OF

WIND.

VERY GOOD DESCRIPTION, LINDA, OF

YOUR WIND SITE.

ANYWAY, HOPE SOME OF THOSE IDEAS

HELP YOU.

WE HAVE ANOTHER LINDA ON THE

LINE ON LINE FOUR, AND SHE HAS A

QUESTION OR FOLLOW-UP ABOUT

PEPPERDEW PEPPERS.

>> CALLER: I MISSED A LITTLE

BIT ABOUT WHAT HE WAS SAYING AND

WONDERED ABOUT THE FLAVOR AND

SIZE OF THE PEPPER BECAUSE I

HAVE FOUND A PEPPER THAT LOOKS

SIMILAR TO ONE HE SHOWED IN MY

BURPEE CATALOG.

AND IT'S CALLED CHERRY SETTLER.

I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S QUITE THE

SAME ONE OR NOT, BUT THEY SAY

THEY HAVE TONED DOWN THE HEAT OF

THE CHERRY BOMB.

AND THESE ARE TWO INCHES.

THEY'RE SWEET.

THEY PRODUCE BUSHELS OF PEPPERS

ON A PLANT.

AND THEY'RE VERY EASY TO STUFF

OR GRILL.

>> THAT SOUNDS PRETTY SIMILAR.

THE PEOPLE WHO TRADEMARKED

PEPPERDEW WOULD ARGUE THAT IT'S

TOTALLY DIFFERENT.

BUT I'M NOT SURE THAT IT IS.

THAT'S BASICALLY WHAT IT SEEMS

TO BE IS A THICK-WALLED CHERRY

PEPPER THAT IS NOT BLAZINGLY HOT

AND HAS SOME SWEETNESS AS WELL,

WHICH SOUNDS LIKE WHAT YOU'RE

TALKING ABOUT.

SO THAT -- FOR SOMEBODY WHO

DOESN'T WANT TO INFRINGE ON THAT

IT'S NOT A TRADEMARK, THEY

SHOULD PROBABLY TRY THE CHERRY

AND SEE HOW THAT DOES FOR THEM.

>> IT WOULD BE WORTH IT.

I MEAN, IT'S AVAILABLE.

>> YES.

AND YOU'RE NOT GOING TO --

THERE'S NO LEGAL PROBLEM.

>> EXACTLY.

YOU CAN SAY, HEY, I GOT IT RIGHT

FROM HERE.

ALL RIGHT.

WE HAVE A POINSETTIA QUESTION ON

LINE SIX WITH KAY.

HI THERE, KAY.

>> CALLER: HI.

I RECEIVED, AS A GIFT, TWO YEARS

AGO A POINSETTIA.

IT CAME FROM THE GROCERY STORE.

WELL, IT HAS SET IN THE SAME

PLACE.

AND, YES, IT DID DROP SOME

LEAVES SO I WENT AHEAD AND

REMOVED THEM.

BUT RIGHT NOW I'M GETTING THE

RED LEAVES ON THERE THAT I

THOUGHT WAS ONLY SUPPOSED TO

HAPPEN AT CHRISTMAS TIME.

>> OKAY.

I GUESS IT'S WHAT WILL I DO.

SO LET'S FOLLOW UP ON HER

QUESTION, WHOEVER WOULD LIKE TO.

>> WELL, IT ONLY HAPPENS AT

CHRISTMAS TIME IF YOU START

SHADING THEM IN LATE SUMMERTIME.

AND NATURALLY THE DAY LENGTH

GETS TO THE RIGHT LENGTH.

>> ANYWAY.

>> AT SOME POINT.

BUT NOT CHRISTMAS TIME.

SO I DON'T KNOW IT'S VALENTINE'S

DAY OR ST. PATRICK'S DAY.

>> OR APRIL FOOL'S DAY.

>> OR APRIL FOOL'S DAY.

BUT BY THE TIME THAT NATURAL

PROCESS TAKES ON AND AS THE DAYS

ARE LENGTHENING NOW, I WOULD

EXPECT THEY'RE GOING TO GO BACK

TO GREEN PRETTY SOON.

>> SO YOU JUST FOUND A NATURAL

TIME THAT IT WAS GOING TO

PRODUCE THOSE RED BRAKS.

NOT JUST AT CHRISTMAS TIME.

SEE, I WOULD LIKE TO GO TO THE

MAG QUIZ SEGMENT NEXT.

WE'RE NOT GOING TO GO TO THE MAG

QUIZ SEGMENT.

[ LAUGHING ]

>> BUT WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT

IS WHERE NOT TO PLANT YOUR

GARDEN.

AND SO I WOULD SAY WHERE NOT TO

PLANT IT.

GIVE ME SOME IDEAS.

NOT IN --

>> THE SWAMP.

>> NOT IN THE SWAMP.

VEGETABLE GARDEN, I THINK.

NOT IN --

>> THE SHADE.

>> -- THE SHADE.

AND MAYBE NOT IN CLAY.

[ LAUGHING ].

>> POOR JIM.

I'M LOOKING AT HIM.

>> THE ROOT NOT IN CLAY.

>> ON THE TOP OF AN OLD SAND DO

YOU KNOW -- SAND DUNE ISN'T A

GREAT PLACE EITHER.

>> WHEN WE BUILT OUR HOUSE, THE

CLAY GOT PUT IN FRONT.

I JUST KEPT MULCHING AND ADDING

ORGANIC MATTER.

IT ONLY TOOK A COUPLE DECADES --

I MEAN A DECADE OR SO.

>> I WILL MENTION ONE THING.

STAY AWAY FROM THE WALL TREE.

THAT MEANS NOT UNDER THE TREE.

TAKE THE HEIGHT OF THE TREE AND

DOUBLE IT AND STAY THAT FAR OUT.

BECAUSE THE ROOTS GIVE OFF A

TOXIC SUBSTANCE THAT IS REALLY

BAD ON TOMATOES.

>> SO THE HEIGHT OF THE TREE OUT

AND DOUBLE IT.

>> RIGHT.

IN YOUR NEIGHBOR'S YARD.

[ LAUGHING ]

>> THAT'S WHAT WAS ON IT NOT TO

PLANT IT UNDER TREES.

WE HAVE MANY TREES THAT WE'RE

NOT TO PLANT, UNLESS YOU'RE

GOING TO PLANT SOME SHADE LOVING

THINGS.

AND LETTUCE WILL TAKE A LITTLE

BIT OF SHADE.

A LITTLE BIT.

BUT THEY DO LIKE SUN.

WELL, BOY, THIS TIME REALLY GOES

FAST, DOESN'T IT?

IT SEEMS LIKE WE HAD SOME REALLY

GREAT QUESTIONS.

WE'RE HAPPY THAT YOU TUNE IN AND

THAT YOU ARE SO FAITHFUL.

YOU CAN GO TO THE WEBSITE AND

FACEBOOK AND YOU CAN ADD SOME

MORE QUESTIONS.

BUT WE HAVE TROUBLE KEEPING UP.

WE HAD QUITE A FEW.

SO YOU CAN ALSO LOOK ON THE

WEBSITE AND SEE ABOUT THAT.

WELL, I WANT TO THANK EACH ONE

OF YOU FOR BEING HERE.

WE HAVE LOTS OF EXPERTISE.

AND IT'S REALLY NICE TO SEE

WEEDS, INSECTS, DISEASES AND

LOTS OF FUN THINGS ABOUT

PEPPERDEW PEPPERS.

AND THEY LOOK A LITTLE SMALLER

THAN THE ONES HERE ON THE TABLE,

DON'T THEY?

>> A LOT.

>> BUT WE HAVE SOME RED.

SO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR

WATCHING.

WE HOPE THAT YOU GET OUT THERE

AND HAVE A GREAT TIME GARDENING.

SEE YOU NEXT TIME.

Classical Musicians React: TWICE 'Ooh Ahh' vs 'Cheer Up' - Duration: 18:16.

kevin: so ya know this is common

this sounds like spring day almost

umu: cuz it's in eb

yeah no no Db

so it's I, iii, vi, IV

that's your basic one

yunyi: plagal cadence!

yeah

yes. what they- what they did for most of it was

I, iii, vi, iv, which is the note that kills me,

but then, somewhere after the bridge they did something very cool which is

so you know this is a iii. when iii gets turned to major, it's actually the V of the iv chord

so there was

and then they went down there again so it was like up, down boom boom

it was like...yeah

*Rossini's Semiramide Overture plays*

umu: girl group this is Twice gwen: ohh ahh

umu: this is their very first song this is their debut song and it's called

henry: ohh ahh

umu: ooooHah

Lindsey: 3

Davis: 2

Both: One

*click*

kevin: ohhh i like that F# major

yunyi: ahhh i like the colors!

kevin: ah, i like the mixture- oH MY GOD YUNYI: ooOHHH

henry: what thhheeee emiel: ok that's cool henry: what the zombies!?

henry: gooodaamn

fiona: off to a good start henry: that's very dope

hugo: (talking about the lyrics) is it maybe because you're alive in a zombie world?

lindsey: the lil flute!!!

davis: ohh zombies is it- is that what we're going to be doing here?

is that- alright- cool

lindsey: i like the little- it's like a little flute like-

kevin: that is- i see why it was bumped

oah

another plot twist

they're not....zombies

naoki: that rising bass line, you know something's gna happen

fiona: maaajor scale, maaajor scale

sounds like Mahler 1

very predictable but that's ok!

kevin: i love mixture <3

this is a very good song! like, harmony wise

henry: this chord progression is definitely confusing me

emiel: it's definitely a trippy chord progression

henry: yeah emiel: i don't get it

henry: there's so many of them!

naoki: ooh ah oooah

that-

yeah this is

very different

kevin: eheaihe the choreography- ohh, oh such flur but the song is so good

davis: true i was just reading- i spent a lot of time reading the lyrics and it was just like I-

it was basically like "everyone thinks i'm beautiful but I just want to be in love"

lindsey: i like this

i like this :3

their voices sound really cool

kevin: there's- there's a lot of girls generation vibes now

hugo: i can't see their legs! where did their legs go? oh man!

*confused silence*

gwen: what

why can't you see their legs...?

....wait for it....

hugo: they're wearing camo!

kevin: i'm getting paramore vibes!

yunyi: yeah there's some low key abra levine in this

kevin: yeah yeah

naoki: that was a road safety hazard

oh look there they go again

shimon: this is cool they're all like really unique

kevin: girls dancing in the bus while there are zombies outside

yunyi: a lil less fabulous

but...

kevin: that's pretty!

ohmahgod

shimon: voices, like...

i mean like style in general

the way they look

naoki: well it's like one of them singing and then they eventually harmonize

and then one, one goes off again and then they harmonize

lindsey: i really- it's really peppy though. I like this a lot.

naoki: there's so many different styles within this song it's ridiculous

it's like bohemian rhapsody in that way i guess

lindsey: i feel like this would be the song that a dance team would put in a mix of something they're going to dance to

kevin: i have to say! this music video is winning me over.

i'm extremely charmed by this

emiel: woahh this chord progression is definitely-

henry: i know

it's like-

it's like- emiel: ok they're the zombies which i am noot understanding still

lindsey: it's like- davis: major third

once every sixteen

lindsey: it's a- it's a major second

it's just a whole step

davis: oh yeah

davis: i-i again with the intervals, i just can't xD

wow

they're workin these 8 couunts

it's so good

shimon: different styles <3

naoki: harmonically it seemed quite plain but-

i mean...yeah? shimon: yeah

naoki: do you agree? shimon yeah i agree

naoki: nothing really stood out about it harmonically

umu: but it was still like- you enjoyed it?

naoki!: yeah! shimon: it didn't get bland

naoki: i would agree with that

lindsey: i liked it!

umu: ok

davis: it was alright

lindsey: yeah davis: the dancing was really really good, the music I was kinda like meh

umu: ok. so- davis: the lyrics!

it was nice to have the lyrics tho because

because it did kinda give me a little bit of insight to what they were actually- you know like- ya know

cuz whenever you have a title like

"like ooh ahh"

umu: you're like "wait what is it abut??"

davis: what could this possible- like ok there's zombies and like

i would have had no clue so that- it was good to have a little bit of insight

gwen: cuz it was very like- synth.

beat

vocals

hugo: yeah

there were- there was like

i would have made a few chord

differences too...like it was a very straightforward chord structure

emiel: i like the music. i didn't understand some the zombies

but

groove was pretty good and the chord- sh*t

the chords were confusing

so i was like

a lil bit confused but it was groovy!

fiona: going along those lines

i'm just kinda confused by the whole plot

and like everything

but like I said the music was nice. it was a good mixture of- a confusing mixture of like HAPPY HAPPY

and then like

ahhahaaahh

fiona: mystery! emiel: a confusing mixture of confusion fiona: i think, it goes along

with the lyrics that i was confused about

yunyi: i wish it was something more than just cute

ok cuz like-

i feel like watching this it's definitely like

like- i see they're trying to go for like empowerment points but it's just not...it's not...like this is soo

i think self degrading in a sense

like it just perpetuates the idea that women are like are sorta like objects of romantic desire...objects of like

ya know like

physical appeal and that they're just sooo few like

girl group songs

ok i'm not getting exposure to them

but so far the one's i have been exposed to

have just been about like

you know like, "i'm the prettiest"

ya know and it's just not...

i hate that and it's why i can't stand a lot of girl groups

kevin: you have a good point i agree

lindsey: i think that i liked that

but it also just kinda sounded generic

you know..

umu: was it just not your style of music?

you know it wasn't really my style of music. the chord progression was pretty interesting

mostly because

i almost made this comment in the middle of it like to you about like

it's weird because it's like

theres like the first, when it was the "chorus"

the first chord

it generally was like- there's a couple places that the first chord of a chorus can go

so that it follows a pretty traditional path to the end of the chorus

and it felt like there were 2 places it wanted to go but as opposed to going one of them or the other,

it went both of them and it was just like O.O

like the melodic line- they'd be singing in major but then like bass will have like minor qualities

kevin: are we watching another video by them? umu: yep

kevin: cool cuz i'd like to see more cuz i really really dug this umu: ok

umu: the song? kevin: the song and the video!

it wasn't like- because i was attracted to them but it was just fun! for me

umu: this one is called cheer up!

umu: it broke- henry: after mild confusion

this song like broke a ton of ...records

gwen: 3 2 1

lindsey: i tought that guy had a washing machine on his head

shimon: washing machine...?

umu: that's a camera!

naoki: it looked like a washing machine

i'll back him up- oh ok i see it now

shimon: I see camera camera

hugo: weird noises

emiel: get that edm

beat goin

yeah man yeah man

henry: minor 3

henry: whAT emiel: oh

emiel: wow henry: wow

emiel: that took a different turn

yunyi: pleASE

kevin: that 8th note is just spasming like yunyi: girl you don't need him to tell you you're pretty!

Yunyi: *Pained groan* Keivn: I just like the spasming 8th note

Hugo: Gaaahhhh

Umu: K words???

Hugo: *Groan*

Mmmmmm

Kevin: Man I like this

Henry: Woah, WAT the f*****ck, hey now

Emiel: I'm- Fiona: It's building

Kevin: It's a nice video

I like the idea of changing- Oh guns

Lindsey: I like it

Davis: Yeah I'm just- Lindsey: It's kinda weird because the lyrics are like come on boy leave me alone but they're so happy abou- like it's so upbeat and peppy

Naoki: Oh I can here the bass in this one (Omg he's still on that)

Shimon: Good Naoki: Yeah

Umu: Hehe

Naoki: It's very reaffirming

Hugo: I'm enjoying the different styles they're doing Gwen: Oh yeah I like- I love the video

Hugo: She's hot as f*** Gwen: Yeah they're all hot as f***

Hugo: That's true

Gwen: I read your message but ignore your calls Hugo: Hm?

Kevin: Aw this video stopped being clever

I'm so sad (Plz don't be sad Kevin)

(I know this is Twice but I saw a Highlight opportunity so I took it)

Like when they cut and then they're like in the same positions

Now now they're just- ok hold on there's still hope

Awwwwwww

Fiona: Like it when it goes to them classy in black, musically it switches to more like a Latin s- I don't know what to call it

Henry: Woah

Naoki: That sounds like (8?) but in music

Naoki: Dun dun yeah Shimon: Mhmhmhm

Keivn: Awww they threw- they kick- they kicked it. They, yeah

The song is still good, I like the song. A lot of minor chords which

Kind of destroy me when they're used right and I think it's used right here

Davis: I just think it's really funny how they're incorporating the whole like lenses into the changing personality of the subject, but it's still the same thing

Gwen: I hate the refrain

Like I'm- I'm like mostly ok with this song and then the refrain comes and I'm like I wanna die

Hugo: I like the drip that went ploop Gwen: *sings* cheer up baby cheer up baby

Lindsey: They're all really cute like the whole thing is just very cutesie so it's like Davis: Yeah

Davis: But it's still incorporating so many different personalities which is really cool Lindsey: Yeah

Emiel: Heh Fiona: What is that *Does dance*

Umu or Ash: They go cheer up baby cheer up baby Fiona: What about their wrists

Emiel: Let them do their own thing Fiona: I'm sorry, it bothers me

Emiel: XD triggered

Henry: You bother me

Yunyi: I- I- I quit at the point where they said a girl shouldn't give up her heart so easily (Oh they have subs on)

Hugo: Thaat has some more than slightly sexist undertones

Kevin: I like it! That was good

It did something

So it starts in-

Oh no it didn't do it

Henry: They definitely did it slowly then sped it up, it's pretty cool actually

Fiona: I love that

What cool effects

Davis: Wow what a special commentary

Yunyi: I mean I like the themes of the different movie genres

Kevin: That I liked. Oh that was good- Oh they did they did the switching again where they like Yunyi: That's pretty cool

Kevin: Made the same face at the very end they're like hey we haven't forgotten that

That's one of the silliest things I've ever seen

Kevin: Hehehehe no it's pretty amusing Umu: The Cheer uup

Umu: And that. Is that what you're saying or what happened in the music video Kevin: The very end where they're all - everyone's like partying and then the camera person just scratching his head and then the music video ends

Umu: Ok ok, you like the song because it did things Kevin: I really like the song. There's a moment I'm sure it did it, so- so

Umu: Heh

Umu: Thoughts on the music

Naoki: I think Shimon should Cheer Up hahaha

Naoki: Cheer up Shimon mon, Cheer up Shimon mon

Lindsey: Yeah that is kinda stupid. The song itself is super cutsie, upbeat, fun to listen to but like Davis: Yeah the song was fine

Lindsey: But the message is just kinda stupid Davis: But those lyrics were- yeah

Davis: That actually was a little upsetting

Shimon: I think I liked the first one better because I

Of the music and video because there was more individuality between the members

Umu: mhm

Shimon: Whereas this one it felt like they were grouped into 3 or 4

Naoki: I mean I- I mean that didn't bother me I really liked the cheering up, the- it was really catchy and quite

you know, quite energetic as well

just

wouldn't stop, but that was fine

Gwen: Actually no put me, put me for one, the first song. The first one was fine Umu: Ok

Umu: 0 Hugo: 0

0

Gwen: Yeah

I'm

emmmm

Hugo: Yup, nope

Lindsey: When I said like- like be a real man I was like

Are you kidding, come on like... I'm disappointed

Umu: Yeah Lindsey: Like I- haha Davis: i'm not upset I'm just disappointed

Lindsey: Yeah

Exactly. I'm not- I'm not mad, just like, do better

Hugo: Like I am sooo not approving of them like cuz not only are they sexist to women, they're sexist to men which even of itself is kind of the same thing

Cuz honestly feminism is for a man being a real man he's stating that having feminist qualities about you or feminine qualities about you

Makes you not a real man when in fact it's just having emotions doesn't make you any less of a man it just makes you a f***ing human being

So by saying be a real man you're trying to tell people to be devoid of emotions

Yunyi: If this was like the baseline worst that it got then it's fine Kevin: Yeah

Yunyi: Like

The fact that this is like the better of groups that you've picked out is- Aw it just kills me because do the double standards of the groups ? cuz like

Look it let's take like a meaningless masculine song for example I think DOPE is pretty meaningless in the sense of it's kind of like I'm dope, I'm cool I can do- but

They key point here is I can do things better than anyone else is like what they say at some point and that's like the jist of the video right but here it's just kind of like

Yunyi:Cheer up baby I'll call you back someday Kevin: But see the- you---

Yunyi: *Hits table* Oh my goooohahad Kevin: But see the DOPE a- be- g-

Kevin: The argument for DOPE is similar to like separating a bad rap song from a good rap song. Most rap songs are about how good, how boss somebody is

But like in the case of DOPE, it's done pretty well

Kevin: Unless you don't think so

Yunyi: I think it's done well yeah no no I'm just saying that both music videos and both peices Kevin: Ok good, Ok I wasn't sure

Yunyi: Not pieces- Songs themselves um, sort of aim to- Like Dope kind of lowkey sexualizes BTS. You know it's definitely one of those like they're flaunting their sex appeal

But they're not doing it in a way that's kind of like making them an object dependent on sort of that romanticization that they're being

that's being focused on for that song you know. They talk about how- it's a self confidence thing because they talk about ow they're better than anyone else

and they're like, they're so dope in that way, but this is kind of like oh boy I'm playing with you, ya know. Don't be sad I'll call you back. So it's kind of like- it's dependant

on something else, it's not internal you know Umu: RIght

Emiel: I mean in terms of like, the music itself

Emiel: Good music, good groove, fun to listen too Henry: Yeah for sure Fiona: Yeah I agree that I liked the song overall, eh lyrics made me cringe

Henry: I liked it when I didn't know the lyrics Emiel: Yeah Fiona: But like-

Kevin: But see the reason I liked it so much, and I'm not- I'm totally agreeing with you here, but just because you know like innately I'm not as sensitive to this topic

So like how you're saying that there are so many songs and grooves that do that already from the past I think that's the exact same reason why I liked it- cuz like

Oh yeah I've seen this in the past and this is just another one where it's the same trend but they do it- I think they do it just fine and I like it

Kevin: I'm not saying that you're argument is invalid but that's just- Yunyi: I think you like it better because the way they present yourself doesn't have an immediate effect on how society views you

Yunyi: Where it does for me so Kevin: I guess

Umu: Yeah Yunyi: Yeah it's just- I mean I comment them still for doing what they're doing and a know it's-

It's a step not- it's not quite eh no- it's not a step in the right direction but it's not taking a step back, it's still a step and I'm glad

Yunyi: -they have careers. Hahaha it's a shuffle Kevin: It's a step horizontally so it doesn't go hahaha

Yunyi: It's a shuffle. I'm glad they're doing what they're doing. They have beautiful voices, the music video is well done blah blah blah blah

It seems to be the unanimous opinion in kpop that it's always extremely well produced and they're all very talented but I just wish they had

a better message to go with Umu: Right, right. So at producers

Yunyi: ?? Or let the girls do what they wanna do. You know actually watching these it makes me really appreciate Blackpink

Umu: Haha yeah

Yunyi: Makes me reaallly appreciate Blackpink and 2NE1

A E Skin Fractional CO2 Laser Testimonial 2 - A E Skin - Encino, CA - 818-835-1833 - Duration: 2:19.

My concerns were uneven skin tone, sun damage, areas on the face, freckles, and mainly was

loss of elasticity in the cheek area.

I was very concerned every time looking at the mirror, smiling and seeing deep lines

every time I smiled.

And it really bothered me.

Dr. Alex recommended as the best solution to my concerns CO2 fractional laser.

One of my other concerns before doing the procedure was the pain.

I thought it'll be 10/10, 10 being the most.

But, actually, I was on the pain medication and I had the numbing cream one hour before

the procedure and doctor with his assistant were blowing the cold ice air into my face

so it ended being like 5/10 instead.

The downtime took about a week.

I was red all over my face.

And it felt like a sunburn in the sun.

But Dr. Alex and his assistants gave me proper lotions before and after to use that really

moistened and helped me to recover fast.

And on the second week I was already able to do my activities.

And the results were phenomenal.

They really exceeded my expectations.

My skin was becoming just like a new fresh skin that I used to have when I was a teenager.

I couldn't believe it.

I started getting so many good compliments from actually even ladies that are younger

than me so I do really recommend this procedure as the most effective.

I'm really really happy with the results and it exceeded my expectations and I truly

recommend it to every lady who has concerns for her skin.

Cherry Blossom Picnic HANAMI 360 - Duration: 1:14.

today in our video I wanted to show you

the cherry blossom in Tokyo

at the same time go over the pros and cons of Hanami picnics

345,000 thousand people gathered in

this park in Ueno this year.

difference between cherry blossom

festivals in japan and overseas is that

we actually gather in big groups to hold

feast under the blooming trees.

We sit on the blue sheets and drink drink drink

sometimes it goes on till night and

it's like a "hardcore picnic" I would say.

It's very beautiful and so much fun but

there are some consequences when that many

people gather with food and drinks at

the same time

Yes, garbages

Park usually stations garage areas

but it over floats.

As most Japanese people keep their manner

of gathering garbages in one spot

it's just way too many wastes

to be created in one day.

I think it's time

to have some more eco-friendly products

since it will continue on like this for

many years to come.

3D printed Charging Phone Mount for Your Car! - Duration: 2:31.

In this video I want to show you how I

made this charging car mount for my

phone there are a lot of options on how

to mount your phone on a car for example

there this kind which use magnet to hold

your phone it's a clean set up but it

requires a metal plate to stick on the

back of your phone which I'm not a big

fan of there's also this kind which only

use the spring force to clamp and hold

your phone it's also a really clean set

up it allows you to clamp any phones

yours or your friends phone but none of

them offers the functionality to charge

your phone with one action so as an

engineer I have to design something

better this is what I design it not

only holds your phone it also charge your

phone at the same time I will show you

how it works in the later part of video

first I need to print it out on my 3d

printer

here is the 3d printed phone mount

grab an apple lightning cable set it in and

push down to snap it in place I'm using

this to mount the whole system i will

put a link in the description on where

to get them next just slide onto the

AC air vent with this design I can still

access all the buttons on the car now i

can drop my phone in there when I get into

the car and it's charging and holding it

at the same time i can not tell you how

convenient it is for example When i'm driving

to the grocery store for 10 minutes and

It can charge my phone up to maybe 5

percent because i'm also using 2.4

amperage charging adapter thank you for

watching like and subscribe if you like

Frozen Hormones Ep. 2 Part 1/5 (click cc/Eng Sub) - Duration: 18:10.

[On the last episode] Everyone will be divided into 3 teams for this Frozen Hormones trip.

The teams are…

the guys from First Gen

Woohoo

the guys from Next Gen

and the last team is...

the girls team.

Team AoiAoi

Team SarnSom

Team RhinoManGo

Over 12 hours of travel time from Thailand…

we finally arrive at

Kiroro resort.

Gunn: The truth is

I have a secret...haven't told anyone about.

I once competed in the Winter Olympics.

I pretended to be Russian.

My name was...

George Hayukha.

George what?

George Hayukha.

Sayukha?

George Kayuppa?

He's the number 1 skier.

Y'know…

I just can't wait to hit the slopes.

I bet you can't wait to see our champion's moves

if it will be totally awesome

or totally awful.

The Battle of Skis at Kiroro

We started our Frozen Hormones trip in Hokkaido, Japan.

We arrived right in the middle of the winter season.

Everywhere you look, there's snow.

Let's see how those hot-blooded teenagers do

in subzero temperatures

as they have to learn how to ski.

Oy! Is my head too big?

If you can't get it on, then just forget about it.

It feels like you're torturing me...Hey! You got it on.

80% Warmer

Today, we're going to learn how to ski.

Yep, learning to ski.

Tonhon: Yeah. Oab: That's right.

Have any of you guys ever touched a pair of skis?

Tonhon: Nope. Oab: Never.

This is my first time touching skis.

Have you ever been skiing before?

James: Never!! I've never done anything before.

Have you ever been skiing before?

I did when I was a kid.

But I wasn't very successful

because I mostly fell a lot.

Why walking with your skis, you don't seem like you're used to it?

[George Hayukha, Olympic Champion] I don't want everyone to get all excited over me.

I've to pretend I've never been skiing before.

So, while the others are learning,

you will go up on the highest ski lift?

Uh, normally..

When I ski..

I ski uphill.

I don't need to get on a ski lift.

Tor: Usually, at normal speeds,

Top: Whoa! That's a bit too amazing.

Tor: he can run uphill on skis.

Whenever the cable cars aren't running,

it's no problem.

It's a walk in the park to me.

Y'know, seriously...

if stop talking now, we could still save ourselves from embarrassment later.

We can ask Pat (cameraman) to edit that out.

Don't you think the viewers would enjoy the show more?

I guess it's time

for the 2 of us to show who we really are.

This will probably be a piece of cake for you.

I heard you like to ski when it's really windy

and when there are avalanches.

Yeah, right!

I used to be part of a rescue team..

before I was a skier.

That one time you told me about?

In the big snowstorm

you were like, Swooooooosh.

Usually, you only hear of people..

trying to escape an avalanche, right?

But for March, he picks up his skis and...rides it like a wave.

March: I went up really high. Gunn: Just surfing the snow.

Gunn: Different people have different skills.

Gunn: I'm a world champ. He's more like a gymnast.

Gunn: When I heard the news, I went around looking for him for a long time.

Don't you think we should stop, really?

Just look at the way we're walking.

Just by looking, you can tell that...

we've come to conquer Hokkaido!!

Laugh like a villain.

That's enough now. I'm tired.

I laugh and snow gets in my mouth.

I'm ready.

You're ready... to roll down the mountain?

Ready to ski!

Let's see what will happen.

I've never been skiing before.

I'm so excited. Can't wait to get going.

It's now time to start learning to ski.

Hello everyone.

Your instructors today will be George.

George, the Ski Instructor

Ae, the Thai Ski Instructor

And I'm Owen. Hello.

[Instructor Owen - International Ski Marketing Kiroro Resort.] Hello, instructors.

But..hey! They can speak Thai too?

[Pat, J-Plan Holiday] Pat: At the Kiroro Resort, there are Thai ski instructors.

From what I know about Hokkaido

and as I've been to many places, There is only here

where you can find Thai instructors.

Of course, when we're learning how to ski

or learning any new activity,

if we get a teacher who is Thai,

we will understand things much easier and faster.

And before we hit the slopes,

we should do a bit of stretching first.

Stretch out your muscles a bit

as we'll be falling down a lot.

Everyone, follow me. Roll your necks and heads.

When skiing, we might fall down and could get seriously hurt.

Warming up and stretching helps the body get ready for sports.

And it also helps in lessening the pain from strenuous exercise.

[Chapter 1: Get to Know Your Skis] First, let me explain

the different parts of the ski,

Skis come in pairs. There is no "left side" or "right side".

The top side is called the "top" and the bottom is called the "base".

It's a direct translation.

Both sides of ski have a sharp blade.

If you aren't wearing gloves, please be careful. You could cut your hand.

The pointy tip of the ski is called the "tip".

The lower part here is called the "tail".

You'll notice the upper half is longer.

The lower half is shorter.

This here is called the "binding". You place your ski boot in here.

[Chapter 2: Putting on Your Skis] To put the skis on,

put them down

on the ground. Place them side by side.

Usually, there will be snow at the bottom of your boots.

All you've to do is gently kick at the binding

to knock off the snow.

Slip the tip of boot into the binding.

Make sure your heel is in correct alignment

and then push down.

The binding will snap up and lock your boot in the ski.

To take it off, you can either step on the binding or press down on it with your hand.

But you must pull your heel up and out at the same time you release the binding.

Take them off. Put them on again.

And the other side.

And there you go, both sides.

Right now, all of you are really close.

I'd like to ask everyone to spread out, nice and wide.

So you have enough personal space

and when you fall, you don't fall on top of each other.

Right now, I'm putting on my skis.

I've to..

scrape off the ice from my boot first

like this..

Then.. slip the front in.

And align the back and..

Yay! I did it.

But I'm scared I might fall.

Which side is the front?

Watch how a "pro" does it

Toes in first

and then push down.

It's a kind of feeling like..when you can't start your motorcycle.

Haaa.

I've got one...one down.

It's ok, man.

That's good.

Hey! Hey! Hey! What should I do if it starts to slide?

The instructor didn't get to the part about sliding yet.

Oh, no!

Hey! I'm still sliding.

Ahem..seems like the champ hasn't been skiing for too long.

You're looking a bit rusty, champ.

Nvidia Titan Xp VS 1080 Ti | Nvidia Titan Xp Performance - Duration: 2:16.

It looks like we can't jokingly call the Pascal GPU-based Titan X the "Titan XP" anymore, because Nvidia just rolled out a new version of its flagship graphics card that's officially dubbed "Titan Xp." And this thing is a monster. The original $1,200 Pascal-based Titan X shattered performance records, but the recently released GeForce GTX 1080 Ti rendered it obsolete, offering slightly faster performance for just $700 as Nvidia prepares for Radeon Vega's imminent release. The Titan Xp restores natural balance to Nvidia's lineup by upping CUDA cores and clock speeds. Whereas the original Titan X Pascal (and the GTX 1080 Ti) packed 3,584 CUDA cores, the new version upgrade to a full-fat version of Nvidia's GP102 graphics processor, with 3,840 cores. Those cores are faster, too, with a boost clock of 1,582MHz compared to the Titan X's 1,531MHz. The Titan's already speedy GDDR5X memory is enhanced in the Titan Xp as well, hitting 11.4Gbps—a 1.4Gbps boost over its predecessor. That gives Nvidia's new flagship a whopping 547.7GBps of memory bandwidth. The original Titan X hits 480GBps, and mainstream graphics cards hover in the 200GBps to 250GBps range. Even though Nvidia's beefed up the Titan's potency, it still sticks to the same physical dimensions and power requirements as the initial Titan X Pascal, with the black shroud and all.

Kayleigh McEnany Defends Trump, and Bill O'Reilly, Sally Kohn Disgusted - Duration: 9:11.

bolting for the exits more than 40

companies pulling their ads over

allegations of sexual harassment so

could bill o'reilly days on the Fox News

Channel be numbered president Trump

defending him today saying he doesn't

think O'Reilly did anything wrong let's

discuss now Dylan Byers here CNN senior

reporter for media and politics good

evening Dylan thanks for joining us the

president also defended the fox news

host and he defended fox news chief

roger ailes last year when he was facing

sexual harassment allegations the

president support to Bill O'Reilly

indicative of the relationship he still

holds with this network I think that's

absolutely right i mean it would be very

hard to watch fox news programming

especially in primetime and not come to

the conclusion that though you know that

those hosts and this president are

kindred spirits and that the one defends

the other and in fact we've seen that

relationship work both ways look I think

the president knows where his bread is

buttered I think he likes the fact that

guys like O'Reilly and Hannity and

Tucker Carlson go out and to send him

every night I also think we should

acknowledge here that the president has

his own history of being accused of

sexual harassment during the campaign he

was a cute you know there was that

Access Hollywood tape in which he talked

about grabbing women by their genitals

so look he's as much on the defensive

here on this issue as ales was and as

O'Reilly is now but you'll remember when

Trump came out and defended ales that

was just a week before ales was ousted

from the company so I'm not necessarily

sure that trumps endorsement is good

news for Bill O'Reilly well that's what

I said at the beginning of the program

i'm not sure if it helps either of them

especially when you actually listen to

that Access Hollywood tape that we

played in the beginning of the program

so Dylan fox news came out and said that

they stand behind bill o'reilly but as

of tonight as i said over 40 advertisers

i mean they don't stand behind him is

there any sign that fox is going to

resync keeping him on air look at that i

mean look at those advertisers no it's

it's true it's truly amazing and you

know 48 hours ago it was one or two 24

hours ago is about 20 21 now we're

dealing with more than 40 I mean the

list keeps growing and growing and

growing there is a little bit the Fox

News there's a little

inoculated from any sort of economic

pressure from these advertisers because

most of those ads are being reassigned

to other shows on the network so those

ads you used to see on Bill O'Reilly

program now maybe you'll see them on

hannity's program on fox and friends

what have you there's also a you know we

should remember so much of the revenue

in cable news comes not from advertising

but from affiliate fees so the question

here about Bill O'Reilly future is not

so much about the economic dent that's

going to be made from this advertiser

boycott it's really a question about

public pressure it's really a question

about how much 21st Century Fox sort of

feels the pain from this public pressure

and then them deciding what kind of

company they want to be and I think a

lot of people and including a lot of the

sources I've spoken with inside of Fox

News would say if this weren't Bill

O'Reilly if this weren't the you know

the so-called king of cable news with

the highest rated show in television he

would have been out a long time ago the

problem is that Fox News can't afford to

lose him because he brings in over a

hundred million dollars a year in

revenue for company that makes over a

billion dollars a year in advertising

revenue for 21st century not interesting

it and I glad you said have tried to

explain to people for the last couple

days that it's not necessarily you know

the advertisers which they're important

but subscription rates bring in more

money than advertising to keep right

that's and so and so we should just note

there if you look at Bill O'Reilly

ratings he continues to be very strong

he has a loyal audience that audiences

sticking with him that does that are I

that's great so subscribe to fox news

channel when they're trying to figure

out which cable services they want Thank

You Dale had that frigid that I want to

bring into any political commentator kod

mceneaney contributor at the hill also a

Daily Beast calma Sally Kohn political

analyst kirsten powers a calmness at USA

Today and political commentator Angela

rye why were you shaking your head when

when he talked about the amount of money

and all that you know kudos to o'reilly

for the ratings it's just sort of sad

that I think I think Don's point is

exactly correct if he were a lesser

success or frankly not a television star

anyone else where these kinds of

allegations were made public so

repeatedly we can hope we can hoping be

out then

and honestly I don't know the truth is

this happens all the time and the men

survived their jobs and we don't need

more proof of that than the fact that we

had these are just allegations that were

settled we're talking about when a man

who boasted not about sexual harassment

but sexual assault gets elected by half

the country to promote what do I tell my

daughter that wasn't okay but you still

get to be a TV star and you still get to

be President that's a problem here's

what you tell your daughter you tell

your daughter we're a country that

believes in Redemption and Donald Trump

apologize know you can scoff but Donald

Trump apologized and not only that ben

Carson said you know he prayed the night

before he went on the debate and had to

address this heap rain ask God for

forgiveness we can roll our eyes we can

laugh at that whatever you may know more

a country that believes in Redemption

and Donald Trump he's not a misogynist

we can demonize them we can vilify him

he's not that he asked for forgiveness

and half the country gave it to a we

listen I think that hold on hold well

well well well we do believe in

Redemption and I believe in Redemption

more than any anybody else but I don't

think someone who says those words I

think people around the country would

think that they possibly do they deserve

to be the president of the United States

how was your emotion when you guys when

when you say things like that there are

certain standards there's a certain bar

that one must meet in order to be the

leader of the free world don't receive

any was Oval Office and actually

committed an act already oval office and

he faced to music for those and listen

I'm not condoning with Bill Clinton he

did was horrible and if he had been

taken out of office I think then that's

what the American people would have

decided so the American people decided

they wanted him Donald Trump to be

president of United States I'm just

saying I think that someone should meet

a certain bar before they become

president humanity yeah the electoral

college did decide that thank God for

the American people writ large who did

not but I do think that it's important

for us to make distinctions I'm a

Christian too I believe in forgiveness

and redemption but I don't think that

when you do something so egregious you

should be promoted for your behavior I

think instead you should be reprimanded

perhaps discipline and

definitely not given the highest office

in annoys let's bring this back then to

to Bill O'Reilly which is really we're

talking about if someone deserve to be

in the position that they're in if their

accusations or if they've committed

possibly committed horrible acts you've

worked at fox news you've worked there

you've worked there so I want been

hearing your messenger of respect

interesting look I don't I think you

have to remember we don't really know

what happened he did he settled right so

settling is not necessarily admission of

guilt so I know I can't say whether this

happen or it didn't happen I don't know

I think that it's obviously very

problematic when you have this many

allegations against one person and I

think that you know looking at the

advertisers pulling away they're clearly

uncomfortable with it and I think that

we are have seen our culture shift

somewhat on this issue the question is

has it shifted as much as maybe I think

this do you think if I think that I

think it's changed a culture exchange

when you look at what happened with Bill

Cosby because of the same arguments

arguments were made by Bill Cosby and

this show was one of the first shows to

start covering the allegations of Bill

Cosby on to the extent that yeah it but

I do have to say when when when someone

says that we don't know and we don't

know sean hannity works there gets paid

a lot of money haven't heard anybody say

anything about that tucker carlson works

there makes a lot of money haven't heard

anybody say anything megan kelly worked

there made a lot of money didn't hear

any guys saying or women or whatever

saying you know because it's yeah we

want to be fake like I'm just saying one

of you bill hemmer work there no hammer

I'm sure makes a lot of money but to my

understand the point britt hume works

there it makes a lot of money and on and

on look I think that you're writing

alien busy it's knowable I'm just saying

I don't know you know I mean like but

but i think that Fox probably does know

right i mean i think the people who love

who have had access to the you know

court and eat lunch and so I think that

they know know what happened and then

they have to make a decision about what

they want to do it's hard for me sitting

here having not having access to them

listen happened Kaylie has a you know

Carol helixes redemption right is it

hypocritical though when you're the

Family Values channel to allow someone

who possibly did this to stay on the air

and not question it we'll talk about

that when we come back
