We are now going to try one of our barrels that contains tempranillo from the 2015 harvest.

Let´s see how the wine is aging, how the wood is contributing, and determine if it is indeed adding all the good things that we need.

In some occasions the wine can be so potent that its too strong for the barrel, so then we`ll need a different type of wood.

Sometimes the wood is too strong and toasted and in this case the wine would become too tannic.

Therefore, it is important to revise regularly all our barrels.

In this case this barrel that were going to try, is made from French oak.

It was roasted a bit more than average, and the wine that we are going to try now is a wine with an impressive amount of colour, a high robe.

One thing you can do to know if the wine has a high robe is putting your fingers under the cup and look if you can see them.

In this case I can´t see my fingers, so we can say that it has a high robe of colour.

The light in this room is not the most adequate for wine tasting, but now we are not interested in the colour but aromatic contribution of the wood to the wine.

The wood is already well integrated but is not quite ready jet.

the wine is so powerful that it is still too strong for the barrel.

It will need more time, but the aroma and the profile that this barrel gives to the wine is exceptional.

Transformer Testing - Transformer Test and their Procedure - Duration: 4:40.

For confirming the specifications and performances of an electrical power transformer it has

to go through numbers of testing procedures.

Some tests are done at manufacturer premises before delivering the transformer.

Mainly two types of transformer testing are done at manufacturer premises- type test of

transformer and routine test of transformer.

In addition to that some transformer tests are also carried out at the consumer site

before commissioning and also periodically in regular & emergency basis through out its

service life.

In this video we will learn type of transformer testing in manufacturing commissioning and

installation period and their procedure.

Type of Transformer Testing.

There are three types of transformer Tests done at factory.

1.

Type tests.

2.

Routine tests.

3.

Special tests.

Type Test of Transformer.

To prove that the transformer meets customer's specifications and design expectations, the

transformer has to go through different testing procedures in manufacturer premises.

Some transformer tests are carried out for confirming the basic design expectation of

that transformer.

These tests are done mainly in a prototype unit not in all manufactured units in a lot.

Type test of transformer confirms main and basic design criteria of a production lot.

Type tests of transformer includes.

1.

Transformer winding resistance measurement.

2.

Transformer ratio test.

3.

Transformer vector group test.

4.

Measurement of impedance voltage/short circuit impedance (principal tap) and load loss (Short

circuit test).

5.

Measurement of no load loss and current (Open circuit test).

6.

Measurement of insulation resistance.

7.

Dielectric tests of transformer.

8.

Temperature rise test of transformer.

9.

Tests on on-load tap-changer.

10.

Vacuum tests on tank and radiators.

Routine Tests of Transformer.

Routine tests of transformer is mainly for confirming operational performance of individual

unit in a production lot.

Routine tests are carried out on every unit manufactured.

Routine tests of transformer include.

1.

Transformer winding resistance measurement.

2.

Transformer ratio test.

3.

Transformer vector group test.

4.

Measurement of impedance voltage/short circuit impedance (principal tap) and load loss (Short

circuit test).

5.

Measurement of no load loss and current (Open circuit test)

Special Tests of Transformer.

Special tests of transformer is done as per customer requirement to obtain information

useful to the user during operation or maintenance of the transformer.

Special Tests of transformer include.

1.

Dielectric tests.

2.

Measurement of zero-sequence impedance of three-phase transformers.

3.

Short-circuit test.

4.

Measurement of acoustic noise level.

5.

Measurement of the harmonics of the no-load current.

6.

Measurement of the power taken by the fans and oil pumps.

7.

Tests on bought out components / accessories such as buchhloz relay, temperature indicators,

pressure relief devices, oil preservation system etc.

Hey everyone I hope you are having a wonderful week this week this week I wanted to go through

the shoebox.

I get that this is like the most dramatic way to introduce what I am going to be doing

today but I am actually really excited about this because it has been like staring me in

the face for like the past month and I just really want to do this so as a youngen my

mom created like little memory boxes for us and I could take a picture of them right now

probably will not though we basically through our Middle School years Elementary School

Preschool high school we threw a bunch of stuff that remind us of what we used to do

what we did before and then I also have the shoebox now this is not in a memory box this

is outside of the memory box but my two brothers and I had a memory box right?

They are not really adding any more stuff to it because I mean once you get past the

college you don't think you really need to remember anything me on the other hand I just

love remembering stuff and I like Nostalgia so I am writing in journals which I have also

told you before in addition to this I also added stuff to this box and this box has

a story of its own I work at a PF Changs it is a great I don't know if it is right or

not I did not really eat their ever I work there for a good two and a half weeks I am

going to say I work there for 3 weeks okay?

I was in culinary school at the time and I was really excited for the job I just got

a dishwashing job it was nothing too special but I knew at the time that to work your way

up you have to start at the bottom so I was okay with starting as a dishwasher it was

only on weekends as soon as like the third day of working I was like this is not for

me I hated my life I hated the job I hated basically everything about working there so

I quickly quit from there and in the interview process they said we need to get you a shoe

size because we need to get you some work shoes that came in this box, and then I quickly

quit after that and I kept the shoes.

but for the most part I do not know I found this this . This...

do is attempt to do their best for their own family and hope that it is the right thing

to do I got 102 out of 100 points for the paper I was always a good writer so that does

not surprise me so, next, yearbook stuff pass to get into prom in here so that's nice.

and I love this place because it is really like in Denver or I think it's in the Lone

Tree Colorado it is like a castle it is so cool I love it so much I love it I went for

my graduation dinner it was really exciting so I got these These are in the bathroom and

they are like paper towels but I mean if you were if you were able to feel this it is like

cloth and I am keeping it for what?

am actually excited to open this was my first concert I ever went to that was a really good

concert more tickets jeez I don't know if you guys know of a Cirque du Soleil it

is great I love it to death I actually have this exact one on DVD I save some confetti

from varekai so that is nice.

Okay so I used to work at a pizza place both of my brothers work there before I got there

so they took some of these papers home that had quarters and stuff I would read back the

orders and tell them what order it was I think I had a journal before but I really want to

say, oh no I wrote a little disclaimer on this because I think I needed to be ready

to read this emotionally and I am probably not ready to read this emotionally so I'm

not going to read it it says brace yourself I completed throwing these away they are just

read them I guess you will see why I almost tossed to them.

I think this is like a love letter to a woman and I just could not bear, reading it after

I came out and I am not going to read it now because I just cannot handle it.

Look at this, this is a little hanger I'm actually going to put this up if I can.

I was looking for these for Halloween because I put them in dry ice and let the balloon

So senior year the summer before senior year was the year I came out and the next year

I actually was enrolled in a pre-collegiate program so that winter or that summer I came

out and then there was a boy who went to the same program with me he was on the shuttle

with me every single morning I knew him from before because he was at my school but I do

not really know know him and then I really got to know him because we spent basically

every single day at school together in the morning and in the afternoon time driving

back so we spent a lot of time together I kind of fell in love with this guy because

he was like the nicest person on the planet I had my first crush as a gay boy I wrote

him a letter I'm not going to give his name out nor am I going to read this letter because

I just cannot I cannot handle it I wrote this letter and then on my desktop on my laptop

I said the thing you should not be doing, this letter was the thing you should not be

doing oh my God.

I cannot believe that I am so happy I kept it too I'm probably going to stop here because

I have filmed it so much about this already so I will continue next week with more of

Caesar in Gaul - Makin' Waves (56 B.C.E.) - Duration: 10:42.

Over the winter of 57 and 56 BCE, Caesar had to make a decision to make.

He was almost half way through his 5-year term as the governor of Cisalpine Gaul, Transalpine

Gaul, and Illyricum.

If he had any post-governorship ambitions, he had to start making plans now.

He could go back to the Senate and assume his place as a leader in the Reform faction,

but that wasn't nearly as exciting as being at the head of an army.

Plus, throughout Caesar's life we get hints that he didn't love the Senate.

Remember, during his year as consul he did everything in his power to cut the Senate

out of the legislative process.

He could run for consul again, but legally there had to be a 10 year gap between consulships,

and the Senate wasn't likely to grand an exemption in his case.

That put his next eligibility at 49 BCE at the earliest.

Caesar sent for his fellow Triumvirs, his not-so-secret political allies, Pompey and

Crassus.

The three men met in a town called Luca, in Cisalpine Gaul.

This meeting, which is known to history as the Luca Conference, has become the stuff

of legend.

Later writers would claim that hundreds of senators accompanied Pompey and Crassus on

this pilgrimage, but this is probably a later invention.

When the three men met, Caesar had a proposal waiting for them.

First, he wanted Pompey and Crassus to both run for consul.

It was winter now, elections were usually held in the late summer, and if they were

successful, they would assume office the following January.

Second, once they were in office, Caesar wanted them to put forward legislation extending

his term as governor.

He was midway through a five-year term now, and he wanted another five years added on

to that.

At the end of 10 years as governor, he would be eligible for another term as consul.

Third, he wanted Pompey and Crassus to secure for themselves, with the support of Caesar's

allies back in Rome, powerful governorships of their own.

They agreed that Pompey would get both of the Spanish provinces, and Crassus would get

the prestigious province of Syria.

With all three Triumvirs in charge of powerful provinces, they would each be able to focus

on their own affairs and stay out of each other's hair.

See, there were rumours circulating at the time that Crassus was secretly offering financial

support to Clodius back in Rome.

On paper, Clodius was an ally of Caesar's, but in reality, the man was out of control.

Remember, Clodius had indirectly come into conflict with Pompey over the issue of Cicero's

banishment.

If this rumour was true and Crassus was financing this conflict, it means that the Triumvirate

was beginning to crumble.

The three men agreed to this plan, and Pompey and Crassus returned home.

The Triumvirate wasn't just held together by political necessity, but also by a bunch

of small personal connections.

For instance, Crassus's son, Publius Crassus, was serving under Caesar in Gaul.

Publius was probably in his late 20s and too young for a command, but after the Conference

of Luca, Caesar began to ignore convention and unofficially put him in charge of a legion

anyway.

This was probably done as a favour to old man Crassus.

For the coming year, Caesar sent the young Crassus and his one legion deep into Northwestern

Gaul, to secure some tacit support from the tribes in the region with a nonviolent show

of force.

He also sent another legion, under the command of a legate named Galba, to the Alps.

By this way, this Galba's son's son's son would be a future Roman Emperor.

Galba's job was to set up permanent outposts, which would protect travelers from the Gauls

living in the mountains.

As it was now, traveling through the Alps was extremely dangerous, especially for traders.

If Caesar was planning on being in Gaul for another 7+ years, he wanted to make it as

easy as possible for goods to get goods in and out of Italy.

While constructing one of these mountain outposts, Galba's legion was attacked by the native

Gauls, and for a time they were completely surrounded.

But Galba kept his cool and broke out in a surprise attack, which won him the day.

With one legion busy establishing a safe route through the Alps, and another legion making

peace with the tribes in Northwestern Gaul, Caesar in his commentaries says that Gaul

was "reduced to a state of tranquility."

This mark's a bit of a turning point in Rome's relationship with Gaul.

Caesar was no longer simply reacting to events.

He was behaving as if Rome was there to stay.

Permanently.

But Gaul's tranquility couldn't last forever.

In Northwestern Gaul, the young Crassus had established diplomatic relations with many

of the tribes in the region, and accepted hostages from them as a sign of good faith.

The hostages weren't kept in cages or anything, they just lived with the Romans, and were

used as collateral if anything weird happened.

This was normal practice in the ancient world, especially when a powerful state bumped up

against a weak one.

Some of these hostages were from a tribe called the Veneti.

The young Crassus later sent diplomats to the Veneti to negotiate the purchase of some

grain.

When they arrived, the Veneti arrested the diplomats, and took them as hostages of their

own.

Who knows why they did this.

They may have seen it as a fair exchange for the hostages taken by Rome.

They may have been annoyed with the Romans for showing up and acting around like they

owned the place.

It could have been a simple misunderstanding.

Either way, I think it's pretty clear that this was a minor diplomatic incident.

But when Caesar got word of this, he chose to interpret the act as a formal declaration

of war, and a full-blown Gallic uprising.

He immediately ordered a fleet of ships built on a river that lead to the Atlantic Ocean,

and mobilized his entire army.

He then sent a message to the young Crassus, telling him to move south and continue establishing

contact with the tribes there.

With that done, he ordered three fresh legions to the Northwestern Gaul, to stop neighbouring

tribes from aligning themselves with the Veneti.

Then he instructed Labienus to go with one legion to the newly pacified Belgae territory,

just in case they took this opportunity to try something.

This left Caesar with three legions for himself.

He told his river-fleet to start moving towards the Atlantic Ocean whenever they were ready,

and marched off.

He would deal with the Veneti personally.

The Veneti specialized in sea trade, so when they heard that there were a bunch of angry

Romans coming their way, their first instinct was to load everyone onto their giant sailing

ships and get out of there.

They watched from just offshore as Caesar came across their abandoned villages, and

systematically burned them to the ground.

What the Veneti didn't expect was for a Roman fleet to appear seemingly out of nowhere.

Roman ships were tiny things with oars, designed for going back and forth across the Mediterranean,

while the Veneti ships were these monsters with giant sails designed for long distance

travel in the Atlantic Ocean.

The Romans ships attacked, but they quickly discovered that the huge Veneti ships were

too sturdy to ram, and too tall to board normally.

But they were able to figure out that they could pull up alongside them, and pull down

the Veneti rigging with big hooks on poles, preventing them from sailing away.

After that, it was only a matter of time before the Romans figured out how to climb onto the

Veneti ships.

Caesar's army watched from the shore as the Romans destroyed the Veneti fleet.

The surviving Veneti surrendered to Caesar unconditionally.

He had their entire ruling council put to death, and everybody else, he sold into slavery.

This was an unthinkably harsh punishment for something so small.

This caused an uprising by some of the neighbouring tribes but these were put down by the three

legions stationed nearby.

Try to notice the subtle change that has taken place here.

Caesar isn't positioning his legions as if he's a general marching through enemy territory.

He's moved in.

He's enforcing the peace.

With only a short time left in the campaigning season, Caesar marched towards Belgae territory.

There had been a small uprising there as well, which Labienus had successfully put down.

The thing that still bothered Caesar was that there were two tribes around modern Calais

that he said never formally made peace with him after he subdued the Belgae.

In Caesar's mind, they were still in war.

This is a pretty weak excuse to march all the way across Gaul.

Even if it was true, these people did literally nothing to provoke him.

When Caesar arrived, these villages were abandoned as well.

They must have heard what happened to the Veneti.

The Romans set up their camp in a forested area, and all of a sudden, without warning,

they were attacked.

The Roman infantry didn't even have time to assemble, they just got into random groups

and formed a line of defence as fast as they could.

They took heavy losses, but they held, and it's a small miracle that they weren't completely

overrun.

The Gauls fell back and the Romans gave chase into the woods.

Caesar notes that in the woods his men suffered even heavier losses.

This implies that the Romans may have been lead into further ambushes, but Caesar glosses

over this.

In the days that followed, Caesar turned this temporary camp into a permanent one, by clear-cutting

the trees surrounding the camp for visibility, and having additional walls built for defence.

With Caesar finally satisfied that his boot was firmly on Gaul's neck, he turned his army

around and marched south for the winter.

He had big plans, but they wouldn't bear fruit until next year.

it's Mark Wiens in Bangkok, Thailand.

We are on our way to go eat at this

awesome-looking street-food stall.

Ying, what's the name of the stall?

- Nhong Rim Klong.

- Nhong Rim Klong. - Aha.

- OK, that's the name.

This place has been getting very popular,

and has been really shared a lot on social media, lately,

in Bangkok and in Thailand.

And, you will see that the food looks awesome,

and so I'm very excited to go check it out, today.

- [Ying] He looking at microphone, Mark.

- [Ying] Microphone.

- [Mark] The microphone?

- [Ying] Yeah.

- We made it to Ekkamai,

that wasn't too bad of a drive.

And, what soi is it on, Ying?

OK, so we gotta go down the street to Soi 21.

I'm not sure exactly where we'll park,

but we'll try to find a parking, and then walk there.

We made it to Soi 21, and,

it's gonna be a very, much better idea

to take public transportation, take a taxi here.

Parking was a bit of a mission impossible,

but we finally made it.

We made it to the restaurant, Micah is here.

It is situated next to a canal,

which is not the cleanest canal that I've ever seen.

And then they are cooking right there,

and they have a few tables set up,

and then I've also heard that a lot of people

order takeaway.

They hire motorbike drivers to come here,

and wait in line to place their orders.

But luckily we got here pretty early, it's about 10:45 a.m.

before the main lunch rush.

And Ying is,

let's zoom in on Ying.

She is right there,

putting in our order.

Even though there's not a lot of people sitting here,

a lot of people pre-order,

and so they got a lot of orders to make.

But she is just flying on that wok,

you can here the wok clanking, and actually,

this is just an awesome street-food stall.

It is literally, they are,

the restaurant and all the cooking in the kitchen

is on top of a bridge that goes across the canal.

And then, the sink is absolutely classic.

The sink just runs straight into the canal, and,

along with the smell of the canal,

it's overpowered by the wonderful smell

of frying garlic and chilies, and that crab,

and all the seafood that she's cooking.

They are known here especially for their seafood dishes,

especially their crab, shell less crab,

and that is an entire wok-full of shell less crab,

and she just added a bunch of eggs, and so many, good.

If you just stand here, that aroma,

pouring out of the wok is just beautiful,

and she is an amazing chef.

She's even talking on the cellphone,

multitasking as she's cooking.

That was about a 45 minute wait, but let me show you

why this Bangkok street-food stall is so famous.

Look at this food, it looks unbelievable,

and the portion sizes are huge.

Even photos do not do justice,

how beautiful this food is here.

Normally, if Ying and I go to eat

at a street-food restaurant like this,

we can easily eat like 4 to 8 dishes,

between the two of us, so we order 4 dishes here.

These are monstrous.

And just the ingredients that they use.

At the front over here, this one is tom yum talay.

It's a mixture of seafood tom yum.

I love how they put on just a whole handful of

just not even chopped cilantro,

just whole cilantro and dried fried chilies,

which are just crushed on top.

That is looking wonderful.

Let me just go ahead and taste that broth.

Ying has been tasting the broth,

and she says it is awesome.

That is so sour,

it will almost make your eyes squint.

The depth of seafoody flavor in there is awesome as well,

and you can taste the dried chilies in there,

as well as a refreshing cilantro taste.

This is the smallest plate of food we have here,

and this one is goong tod kratiem,

which is shrimp fried with garlic.

It is a little bit oily,

there's a little bit of a pool of oil,

but then it's just topped with a bunch of crispy garlic,

and these are kinda curled up.

Let me pick up all of these guys onto my rice.

You can smell that garlic.

What I like to do to take of the tails,

is kind of poke it with my fork,

and then go in with my spoon at the very end there,

so that hopefully it releases.

Oh no, that didn't work at all.

OK, there we go. Slide that off.

That entire shrimp just tasted like fried garlic.

And it's so meaty and a little bit oily,

but really, really fragrant.

Yeah, that shrimp is also like a,

it's very muscular indeed.

This is one of their signature dishes here.

It's called 'kahla pli pad napla lea neux pu',

and it's cabbage on the bottom which she stir-fried,

and then there is some kind of

signature mixture of crab meat,

plus maybe egg, plus, I'm not sure what else,

but this is just,

what a beautiful pile of food this is.

And, I think maybe get some of this crab,

with a piece of the cabbage.

And these are just whole sheets of cabbage,

look at that.

I think you just gotta go in for the whole bite.

That's like half-cooked scrambled eggs,

with little nuggets of crab meat, mixed all in,

and then with crisp, lightly wilted cabbage,

to give it a fresh crispness.

It's another spicy dish, or a very really flavorful dish,

but it's so rich and so good.

Oh, that egg and crab.

And then the final dish that we ordered,

and this dish looks like it's gonna be my favorite,

even from just looking at it,

is Pad Khi Mao Buu,

and 'pad khi mao' is a pretty well-known Thai dish.

It translates to "drunken stir-fried crab",

and there is just massive ingredients in here.

You can see all of the crab meat,

there's basil in here, there's Kaffir lime leaves,

there are egg plant, there are shallots,

maybe those are onions,

there's just chilies mixed in this whole dish,

and it looks absolutely stunning.

Is there anything else down here that I missed?

It's just a solid plate.

Oh, lots of slices of grachai, which is finger root,

in here as well.

Put this on to my rice.

That's the ultimate dish.

Even like, literally before I even chewed,

before I even closed my mouth,

I could taste that sweet basil,

just overwhelming my mouth.

And then the grachai, that gingery flavor,

you've got the nuggets of stringy, sweet crab,

and then you can also really taste

the Kaffir lime leaves in there,

giving it a citrusy flavor as well.

OK, moving back over to the Tom Yum,

I'm gonna mix it up.

Oh, there's fish in here.

Look at that nugget of fish.

That tom yum is stunning.

The restaurant is packed now, all of the seating.

And I found that Micah,

she starts to get really restless

when you sit for too long, and this bag,

I have to stand up and eat, but perfect.

Look at the standing table they have, perfectly.

This food is absolutely stunning.

I am absolutely stuffed right now,

and I think having Micah on my stomach,

reduces my stomach space because he kind of,

presses against my stomach.

I've got a little bit left to finish,

and then we had to take the fried shrimp with garlic

and a little bit of that tom yum back home.

So Ying is getting takeaway, she's outside

packing it in a bag at the front there,

cos these portions are gigantic.

If you come here, I think it looks like,

you could easily have just one plate,

order one plate of food,

especially the pad khi mao was gigantic.

The other dishes were not as big,

but you could literally come here, order pad khi mao,

and share between two people.

That was absolutely sensational if you wanna have

some awesome street food crab, giant portions,

and it's not a cheap street food stall to eat at.

You do pay, I think it's about 200 baht per plate,

which is five or $6, so it's not cheap,

but for the ingredients and the amount of crab

that you're gonna eat, it is impressive.

This is an amazing street food stall.

But definitely get here early because it's packed now,

and you have to wait in line.

If you come right at lunch time,

you gotta wait in line, maybe, they said,

they were saying 2 hours now to wait.

So that was a very successful food journey,

Veganism's Puritan Problem Part 1 - Duration: 12:33.

Hey there modern vegans and vegan curious, it's Margaret.

And today, I'm going to be doing part 1 in a series of two

parts in response to Gary Francione's recent video

"''But it's Just a Little Bit' and Dumpster Diving"

In his video, Francione talks about contamination with small amounts of animal products, and

dumpster diving.

In this, part 1 of the series, I'm going to be talking about 'contamination' with small

amounts of animal products.

Let's get to it.

Intro

So on Wednesday, January 25, Gary Francione,

famed professor of Abolitionist Veganism,

released a video discussing two different things:

Contamination with animal products and Dumpster Diving.

And today I'm talking about "contamination" with animal products.

And particularly, Francione's contention that it is non-vegan to eat potatoes that have

been fried in the same oil that has also been used to fry animal products.

In his video, Francione says that if we're to eat something like french fries that have

been fried in oil that has also touched animal products,

what is to prevent us from ordering pasta with cheese,

or another dish that has ground beef sprinkled on top.

Those are the two examples that he uses, and I want to say that yes,

it is completely different, and here's why.

When you're ordering fried potatoes, first of all,

there's a negligible amount of oil animal product within those fried potatoes.

Certainly if you had an allergy to say, fish,

you probably wouldn't want to eat those fried potatoes,

but if you're a vegan, what you don't want to do is to exploit animals.

in fact, in the Vegan Society's definition of veganism,

the idea is to avoid animal products "wherever practicable or possible".

And I do believe this is a case where it is not practicable to completely avoid animal

products.

So in 1949, the Vegan Society defined veganism as

"a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude

- as far as is possible and practicable -

all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to,

animals for food, clothing or any other purpose."

So as far as this definition is concerned,

what we as vegans are doing is trying to avoid - as

far as is practicable or possible - contributing to the

use and exploitation of animals.

Simply stated.

And I think that the case of the fried potatoes is an exception

to that, and I'm going to tell you why.

When you're eating fried potatoes, first of all, as anyone

who knows anything about frying foods, when you're frying

food, the oil is absorbed much more than it is given off.

So in order to fry chicken, that chicken, if it has breading,

is going to be absorbing much more fat than it is actually giving off.

That's just a fact of life when you're frying something.

That's just kind of the way it works.

So there is more oil being absorbed by the breading of that chicken than there is being

given off by the chicken.

But more importantly, when you purchase fried potatoes,

you are not purchasing an animal product.

You are purchasing a plant food, and that's what the money goes toward.

On the ledger of that company, it's going to say fried potatoes

-it's not going to say anything else.

They know that the recipe for those fried potatoes contains no animal products.

And you can check of course - it used to be, for example,

that with - I think it was McDonald's - they were using beef flavouring in their fries.

And of course, if they're using something like that,

then that product is not vegan, because when you're buying it,

you are contributing to the use of animals, and the reason is

because that product explicitly contains animal flavourings,

and that's something that the company knows and they keep track of.

Whereas, with just fried potatoes, if you already asked if it has got beef flavouring,

say it doesn't, it's just potatoes -

then if you're eating fried potatoes that are fried in that oil that's used for everything

else,

your dollars are going towards potatoes.

They're not going towards anything else.

The company is not getting the message "oh, we need to add more beef flavouring," or "oh,

we need to add more beef product".

None of that kind of stuff.

There's no animal products involved in this whatsoever.

It's simply the fact that it has been "tainted",

as Francione might consider it, with animal product.

and the fact that Francione compares this with eating pasta

with cheese on it, or eating a product with beef sprinkled on it-

those would both be recipes.

If you work at a kitchen,

if you have ever worked in a restaurant, or food establishment

and you're given instructions for how to prepare a food,

yes, it is important if someone orders a product that is sprinkled with cheese to know that

product was sprinkled with cheese.

If the dish said "no cheese", then that would be something that would be signalling to the

management that was not in demand.

So, yes, I do think that is important.

Obviously,

if you order pasta, you want to say "no cheese",

that's a very simple and very reasonable decision to make.

And the same with anything that might be sprinkled with ground beef,

if it comes to you with ground beef on it, you can send it back

and say "no, I don't want it with ground beef."

And that's perfectly reasonable.

But when it comes to this issue of the oil being tainted

with the fat of a chicken, it is purely about purity.

And I think that's really important.

I think that a lot of Francione's ideas are puritan.

I don't know if he himself is influenced by a puritan theology,

but he seems to present a form of veganism that is quite puritan in its nature.

The idea that we need to keep ourselves pure from animal products is concerning to me,

and I think it's even going against some of the ideas that Francione presents in his own

books.

If you were to tread the Abolitionist Approach to veganism,

his 2016 book that I reviewed recently,

he makes it very clear that we are not to support the exploitation or use of animals,

that animals are moral beings.

But what he doesn't really explain or explicate so much in that book

is the idea that we also need to avoid any possible contamination with animal products.

And that's what I think the problem is here.

I realized, thanks to many other people who've talked with me about this,

and I've discussed this with some other people,

in order to prepare for this video - but I think that

the challenge for me in this instance is that I think consequences are important.

And I think Gary Francione doesn't.

I think that he cares more about rules.

And for him, the rule,

as he states explicitly in this video,

is that vegans do not consume animal products period.

But I consider that slightly ridiculous,

because we're always using animal products.

If you've ever purchased or used anything made of plastic,

it contains animal products.

And certainly, in my opinion,

this falls into the "practicable" part of veganism.

It is not practicable or possible, in my opinion,

to be using animal-product-free plastic all the time,

because it simply doesn't exist.

If you're going to

use plastic wrap, if you're going to use waxed paper,

if you're going to eat something at a restaurant that uses waxed paper,

then you're automatically non-vegan if it's the mere

contamination with a single cell of that animal organism that

renders you non-vegan.

I think it's not just even about intent,

it has to be about consequence.

And this is my own personal philosophical viewpoint,

but I think that the idea that we can't "sully ourselves"

with animal products is problematic.

I think the notion that we can keep ourselves "pure"

from any contact with animals that have been misused

is impossible.

We live in a world that is built on animal

exploitation.

And that is a tragedy, and I think that our job as vegans is letting the world know that

we don't want to contribute to the profitability of that,

but we can't end the use of it completely without being part of the system.

It's simply impossible.

I've mentioned previously on this channel that if you walk on pavement,

you're talking advantage of animal products,

because asphalt contains animal products.

If you ride in a car that uses biofuel,

you are likely taking advantage of animals as well,

because most biofuel contains tallow, or beef fat.

And even if you were to take public transportation,

you're still getting exposed to a small amount of that.

And I think that is not dissimilar from what Francione is talking about in this video.

If you are to eat those potatoes, it's no different from riding the subway, from taking

a bus,

from doing almost anything else that we would do in our daily lives.

We're always going to be coming into contact with animal products,

until we eliminate them.

The more important question for me is "how do we eliminate them?

And I think we eliminate them by letting people know that they are not profitable.

By not contributing to profit centres.

And I suppose this is rather Utilitarian of me,

and it's simply the way my mind works,

but I think we should not be contributing to the ongoing use

of animals, and the ongoing profitability of animal use.

Eating those fries is in no way contributing to either one of those things.

If you eat french fries, you are not saying that

"we need to keep frying chicken", number one - I mean,

you're not in any way contributing to the demand for fried chicken by eating a fried

potato.

And you're not saying it's okay, either.

I think that the far more important thing is to advocate for animals in other parts

of your life, but those potatoes -

I'm sorry, Francione, but that has nothing to do with it.

And your personal purity is not the issue here.

The issue, in my view, is the suffering, use and abuse of animals.

We need to be ending that.

We need to be sending the message loudly and clearly that we do not support the use or

abuse of animals, that we don't support their exploitation -

that's what we need to be sending across.

Not the idea that it's somehow impure to eat a potato that has touched a chicken.

It reminds me more, in fact, of religious law surrounding purity from the Old Testament.

It seems to have far more to do with that than it does with anything else.

This may simply be my philosophical and ethical standpoint,

but I would really love to hear from you guys.

I want to know

what you think about this, do you eat french fries?

Or items that are cooked on a stove that is also used for animal products?

Where do you draw the line?

Because for me,

I have to draw the line at consequence, and intent

because in order to draw the line at contamination -

there's so many things that - I mean, I live in Canada.

I couldn't use our currency, I couldn't use a credit card,

which is also produced on a machine that uses tallow -

it becomes absolutely impossible.

And in my mind, that's where we absolutely need to be focusing on the consequences of

our behaviour.

Because ultimately, to me, consequence is what matters.

But I really want to know what you guys think,

I want to know if you would eat those potatoes or not,

do you think Francione is right?

Please let me know, because this is something that has been bothering me since I saw the

video.

Not bothering me because I'm concerned that he's right,

but bothering me in that, I think he is fundamentally leading

the vegan movement down the wrong path.

Hello! I wanted to make a video

in which I wanna talk about my go to kitchen supplies!

(And pretty much the only ones I own.)

These days it feels like you need a million and one different ones,

to be successful in the kitchen.

Since I usually don't have much space,

I try to limit myself to the bare necessities.

And I wanna show you that you don't

have to spend a huge amount on them.

Most things work with 1 or 2 supplies

that you can use super diverse.

Let's start with my favorite supply,

This one is rather huge and expensive,

I always say: you don't really(!) need it -

here I've got a smaller smoothie maker

which I have used for many years.

There are a few differences between those two,

this one is soley for fruits and vegetables.

Green Smoothies, Fruit Smoothies,

Frozen fruits work as well,

but it's just not as powerful.

This one on the other hand can mix ANYTHING.

I use it for nut butter,

anything you want to shredder.

I also have two of those containers

(just shortly going to explain the difference)

This one is a dry container,

I use it to mix dry ingredients like nuts, seeds

anything that is super sturdy

that I wanna turn into a kind of flour.

It would also work in this one,

but you do need a lot of input

so it can mix properly.

Again, it's a big and expensive kitchen supply,

if you don't reeeeally need it or want to have it

there are so many other great mixers on the market

that are way cheaper and work just as good.

This one - as previously shown - is a great smoothie maker.

You open it, put everything in

and press it down to start mixing.

I might have accidentally broken its predecessor

by having tried to make nut butter with it..

I would suggest not doing that

the motor just isn't strong enough.

it overheats and then... buff.

But for smoothies - no problem.

This one is the thing I use the most,

next to my mixer.

(Rambling on about how there isn't really a

good word for a FOOD PROCESSOR in German.)

Works similiar to a mixer,

but I don't use it for smoothies.

I use it to make pesto, spreads, nut butter,...

I think it cost me about 70-80€.

Of course it's a small investment

(Makes a great (birthday) present!)

It got a lot of power

and doesn't take up a lot of space.

I've always lived in small kitchens

so I'm a big fan. Easy to store.

This one is the last supply that I use to shred.

(An IMMERSION BLENDER!)

And I'm gonna repeat myself here (SORRY!)

I use it for pesto...(but not for nut butter).

I often decide which tool to use on instinct.

Sometimes making pesto works great in the food processor,

and sometimes I know it won't be liquid enough

I will rather use the immersion blender.

We are - finally - good friends again

four years ago we had a little encounter..

I have first hand knowledge (haha, what a pun)

ALWAYS unplug

when you wanna get some stuff off the blades....

A very small tool

which can also be 8 times this size

is my little zucchini and carrot spiralizer.

I use this tool to make my veggie noodles.

It works like a sharpener

you have to different sizes that you can choose.

It can be a bit tricky to clean it

(as I can see right now...)

Buuut...

it costs about 20€.

They also come muuuuch bigger

which you can use like this (don't know what I'm doing there)

I personally think this one does the job

the others might be a bit better

but for me it's not worth it, space wise.

I don't think I have to talk much about this grater.

For me a must-have

I use it to grate ginger,

lemon zest, orange zest, everything with a zest

I know there's such thing as a zest grater

and I really wanna get one

but until then, this one works well.

A few other tools that I use daily

are those measuring spoons.

Of course you can just use regular tbsp and tsp

but since I'm always testing recipes

I use those spoons as my measurement.

It's really important to me to have one consistent unit.

(And getting the right dosage is just way easier.)

And at last my little scale.

My mum got it for me (thanks Mama!)

No different to any other scale,

but what I really like is that

it can show me milliliter as well

so if I wanna be super specific (more than beakers)

I can use this one for measuring.

So it's not glass, unfortunately it's plastic

- but seems to be really good plastic -

because I can put hot pots on here

without it melting or breaking.

So when you're having something on the stove

but have to add something to the pot

I just quickly put it on here (and measure).

Not sure if it's a good advice.. but it works!

And that's why I really like this little scale.

That was my little kitchen supply collection.

These are pretty much the only ones I use.

It's really important to me to say and show

that you don't really need anything super fancy

and spend a ton of money on your kitchen tools.

(I mean if you want everything to look super amazing, maybe)

but it usually doesn't need many means.

I personally would always invest in a mixer

for smoothies, nut butters, anything else..

I would always spend a bit more on that one.

to try to give it my best answer here.

Some of you are like, "What the heck?

Why are you talking about fitness and diet on this channel?"

Just to give you a background, I do eat one meal a day.

I fast until 5:00 everyday and you can check out that video if you want to know why I do

that.

This video is about healthy and fast meals.

This question is from Matthijs and he says, "Dear John.

I found 'How to Stop Wasting Your Time at Work' interesting, where Kurt ate fastfood

to have time for his business.

Do you have suggestions for meals to eat that are fast to make and still

somewhat healthy?

What do you eat?

Most of the time when I'm alone, I eat Cornflakes with milk in the morning.

Spaghetti or the food at school at noon.

Pizza or lasagna in the evening.

I'm 19 years old.

I'm going to my second year in college.

I'm not overweight.

Should I worry about it?

Can I eat whatever I want as long as I'm not getting fat?"

I think there's going to be a lot of people, Matthijs, including me, that are a little

bit pissed at you right now.

Well, let's see what you eat.

You eat Cornflakes in the morning with milk, spaghetti everyday at lunch and pizza or lasagna

in the evening and you're not fat.

It must be great to be 19 and to have a high metabolism, but I guarantee that you're not

going to be able to keep this up, and I wouldn't.

I mean—well, okay.

You've got an opportunity to get like super ripped and mean and look really good if you

change your diet up.

I think this is kind of fun.

I think you're just emailing me to brag about how you could eat all those stuff and not

get fat and just piss everyone off.

Everyone who hates Matthijs, leave a comment below.

No, I'm just kidding.

Let me talk about some healthy and fast meals.

I don't think eating Cornflakes and spaghetti and pizza is healthy.

It may be fast, but it's certainly not healthy.

I have certain definitions, different definitions of what is a healthy meal than other people

do because we're brainwashed to think that certain things are healthy and certain things

are not healthy.

Our bodies, they don't care for the most part.

Now, there is one exception to this into what we eat, which is when we eat things that are

high in fructose and have a very high glycemic index that invoke a very higher than normal

insulin response and the timing on those things is not right.

One of the bad ingredients—I mean the only really super ingredient in my opinion is high

fructose corn syrup.

Corn syrup is bad stuff.

That's because for a couple of reasons.

One, because it has very high glycemic index and so it will spike your insulin levels really

high really fast which is likely to increase fat storage and likely to lead to diabetes.

Second is because fructose is generally bad.

That's what comes from fruits.

Now, from an apple or banana or something like that that has a lot of fiber in it and

has a lot of water, you're not getting a huge amount of fructose for the volume that you're

eating.

That's why fruits are generally considered to be healthy foods, although an overindulgence

of fruit will definitely make you fat.

I don't know if you've seen pictures of Emperor Nero from Rome, fat guy eating grapes,

right?

Before we had like the Cornflakes in a box, the rich people of the age of the Romans and

the India and still in India to some degree and a lot of places, even in China to some

degree, they eat a lot of fruit and they get fat from eating fruit.

There you go as far as what people think is healthy or not.

What I think is healthy is, again—low sugar is definitely healthy, but aside from that,

it's really hard to say.

Right?

Fat is not necessarily unhealthy.

You can be on a ketogenic diet and eat almost all fat.

I've been on diet before where 90% of my diet came from fat, and a lot of that from saturated

fat.

I've had my blood levels tested, my cholesterol, everything and I've been in tip-top shape.

I've been really good.

In fact, it's actually not a bad diet.

I know a ton of people that are curing their diabetes.

Again, I'm not a doctor.

This is not medical advice, but I do know a ton of people that have shown blood tests,

that have shown that they have basically greatly reduced or cured themselves from diabetes

by going on a fully ketogenic diet and eating like 80, 90% fat.

What is healthy?

I think that it's not so much what you eat.

What I think is healthy is what you can actually eat that is going to keep you within the calorie

range that you need to be in and you still get all the nutrients that you need.

What usually the typical healthy foods that people say are healthy are going to be the

things like vegetables, and the reason why has nothing to do with the nutritional content

of it or the energy that it gives you.

In fact, vegetables are not very efficient for giving you energy.

That's part of the reason why they're healthy is because they have so much fiber in them

that for a volume, you get a lot.

Let's just compare.

How much Cornflakes can you eat versus how much broccoli and have the same amount calories

in them?

It's going to be a whole lot more broccoli than it is with Cornflakes.

It's going to be much smaller.

I wish I had some pictures to give you here.

In that respect, you can eat a lot more and be more full if you 'full healthy foods,'

but to your body, it looks like the carbohydrates.

It looks at the calorie it's getting.

It doesn't care that some of them from Cornflakes and some of them came from broccoli aside

from the ones that came from Cornflakes the sugar got delivered faster.

Maybe if they have—I don't know if Cornflakes have corn syrup in them anymore, but if they

did then that would be the case.

That's kind of to set the baseline, to set the context of what is healthy or not.

It's not what most people think.

The food pyramid and all that is bullshit, it's not like that.

You don't need dairy.

It's not like that.

Most people in the United States and developed countries today, most of our food is fortified,

so we get all the vitamins and minerals that we need.

There's not a chance, a very high chance if you're having a deficiency and something like

that and you can always take a multi if you're afraid of that.

It's not a bad idea as an insurance plan.

Let's talk about some fast and healthy meals and what do I eat.

I only eat once a day.

I fast until 5 everyday.

What I typically eat is I typically will go to a place that serves up these bowls where

you can either get it with rice and it has veggies and then it has either chicken or

beef.

That's what I typically eat or I'll eat sushi and I can neither get sushi with rice or protein

wrap or cucumber wrap, or I'll eat something like eggs with spinach and a little bit of

cheese on top.

Those are the typical meals that I eat every once in a while like a burrito or something

like that.

What I'm mostly caring about is the timing in what I'm eating at a specific time.

I think that can make a huge difference.

A lot of people—I've seen this pyramid of relevance of the food and they show that at

the bottom or the most important is the actual calories and then it's like—what is it—the

macros and then there's the micronutrients like the types of food and then timing is

up here.

I actually put timing very close to the bottom because if you do the timing right, it can

determine what happens to your body.

For example with my fasting, after a workout, when your muscles—the insulin receptors

on your muscles after you lift weights, they are primed.

Whereas, normally, the insulin receptors on your fat cells are primed.

What's going to happen is if you eat carbohydrates then, totally different story.

Now, those carbohydrates, that glucose, goes into the muscles to replenish glycogen stores

as opposed to going into fat cells to be stored.

It has to do with timing than what a lot of people think.

A lot of times, I think a lot of reasons why people have 'high metabolisms' is that they

just happen to, by their natural habits, have an interesting timing to how they take different

types of food.

With all that said to get back to your original question, how can you eat healthy fast meals,

is I think that you can—first of all, you've got to figure out what is your plan and what

is your diet and what are you going to do.

Second of all, pay attention to the calories, the overall calories because that's more important.

That is overall for weight loss or weight gain that is more important and is even more

important than the timing.

I just put the timing lower than most people do.

Pay attention to that.

As long as it's within your calories, you're probably going to be okay until you're trying

to micro-optimizing and get down to like below 10% body fat and still gain muscle and all

that.

Aside from that, you're probably going to be okay and avoid sugar.

That's it.

You can choose whatever you want.

Try to make it consistent.

If you really want to take it to the next level, then look for things like where you

can have low glycemic index, lower carb, low sugar stuff and have higher fat and higher

protein.

Places like bowl places.

If you can get that—you can get that done quickly.

There's meal delivery services where they'll deliver meals and make custom meals for you.

You could do something like that.

You can even find healthy stuff or figure out how you can hack the McDonalds menu or

Subway, or something like that if you want to.

There's usually those options.

My advice would be to find something that works and repeat it.

Like I said, I've got a few places that I can go where I can get meals, where I can

pay for the meal and I can have it cooked for me and have it done, and that's that.

The other possible thing that you can do which I used to do a lot and a lot of bodybuilders

still do is that they will cook all their stuff at the beginning of the week like on

Sunday night, they cook up a whole bunch of chicken breast and broccoli and some brown

rice, or sweet potatoes and then they'll divide it up into Tupperwares and then they eat that

throughout the week.

If you really want to go to that level, that's probably the best thing to do because you're

totally controlling the portions.

You're controlling exactly what's in there.

That's probably the best possible thing to do, but it's not quite as convenient because

you still got to cook all that stuff up.

If you do it at once, do it at once and it's going to be fast.

All right.

That's a lot of information there, right?

Isn't it?

We opened a whole can of worms when we 're talking about what is healthy foods.

It's debatable.

So dig deep as you list out all of your skills,

knowledge, and experiences.

Three: Where's the overlap?

To tease out the best business ideas

give yourself plenty of time and room to

get creative identifying potential

overlaps in your lists to come up with

various ways to pair your skills with

others needs. uncovering the overlap of

two seemingly disparate things can

generate massive unique value.

Finally, question four: Will people pay for it?

There are a lot of things that provide value,

but they're not necessarily products or services

people will pay for.

Before you take the time to develop your idea

see if people are paying for it or

something like it already.

And don't worry if it's not something

that everyone is paying for it.

As long as someone is paying chances are there's

a viable market out there for your business idea.
