Going-To-The-Sun Road, Glacier National Park Ep.2 - Duration: 4:47.

Are you a fan of horror films? Mr. Lunch and I ventured out onto

the, "Going to the Sun Road", to continue our journey through Glacier National Park.

The Going-to-the-Sun Road is featured in the opening scene of the 1980 film,

The Shining, a masterpiece of horror film created by Stanley Kubrick.

This scenic mountain road is the main road that traverses Glacier National Park East

and West. This historic road is generally only open

from early June to October due to heavy snow and weather. We were very fortunate

to get a chance t o travel this road in late September due to

the accommodating weather. The previous day of rain brought such drama

to the scenery.

Have you seen moose before? Mr. Lunch and I decided to stake out

for moose today for my first moose sighting. A proper preparation

for stake-out in cold weather started with having the right fuel in the body.

I was preparing good wholesome foods, so we would

have good energy while we were waiting for Mr. and Mrs. moose.

This plan paid off. After hours of waiting, two lady moose showed themselves.

There was something magical about watching wildlife untainted by humans.

I loved how they munched on swamp cabbages. After all, we have something in common.

We both enjoy good eating.

As a finale to our 10 day trip in Glacier National Park, we went for a hike to see a

glacier. Glacier National Park is dominated by mountains

and they were carved into their present shapes by the huge glaciers of the last ice

age. U-shaped valleys are found everywhere in Glacier which is the evidence

of widespread glacial action.

Global climate change is undeniably clear here. Many glaciers in the park have already

disappeared. There were about 150 glaciers in 1910 when

the park was established. in 2010, there were about 37 glaciers left. If the

current warming trend continues, all of the remaining glaciers in the park

will be gone by 2030.

I believe you and I can reverse this trend by changing small things in our lives,

such as turning off the engine when you are idling in the car, carrying a reusable

water bottle instead of buying water in plastic bottles, and buying locally grown

ingredients instead of those that traveled tens of thousands of miles before they get

The Woodpecker Ep 129 - The controller for my dust filtration system - Duration: 5:53.

Hi, on The Woodpecker today, I'm going to show you how I Control my dust filter system

With such a fantastic dust filtering system, I also need a fantastic controller.

A normal person would just plug it into the wall.

Another would add a wall switch.

A fancier person would use a simple remote.

But you know me; I'm not normal.

I built my own controller; so for the rest of this episode, I'm going to give you a small taste of it.

Electronics projects, like woodworking, begin with nice plans; so here it is, the plan for my controller.

With it, I built a prototype.

Haven't I said prototype?

But because of this, I was able to design the actual PCB.

And had several boards made.

Then I solder all the components.

And here they are, both controllers.

Don't you think that they look better than my prototype?

The key part of this is this ten amps relay; don't worry, each motor only draws just a little bit more than five amps; I'm far from the limit.

On my circuits, I can add a RF receiver and, with this remote, I can start and stop the filtration.

This adjustment can set the duration between five to one hundred and twenty seven minutes.

And each button is a multiplier of this value, one time, two times, three times and off.

But I wanted more; so I added a Bluetooth receiver.

And now with a terminal program, I can access the controller.

Here you can see me turn the relay on and off.

This LED indicates the relay is on.

And now with this communication, I can have some informations on the system; like the value of the time adjustment.

But not just that; I have a full page of things that I can access.

We'll see that soon.

Humm, starting and stopping the filtration is not that impressive;

so I add a clock module.

With this module, I can have the time; but it's true usefulness is its ability to start the filtration at a specific time each day.

I can change the start time and the duration of the filtering.

So I know that even if I'm not there, the air in the shop is still clean.

But this is not enough.

I also add a dust sensor.

OK this is quite ugly; but it's working great.

Here's a little demonstration with a match.

We can see that the air quality changes because of the smoke.

But smoke is not dust, so I add a small fan to move it around.

And yes the speed is controlled by my controller.

I know this seems like science fiction; but here's a demonstration with my drum sanders.

I put it directly under the sensor and make some dust.

OK, nobody in his right mind would do something like that.

But still, you can see the filtration starts by itself, after ten over the limit readings.

I know what you're thinking, you're saying: "Alain this is fine, but you have two filters"...

And this is the reason why, I soldered two controllers.

On my main controller, I add another Bluetooth module and one on the second controller also.

And now, I can control two modules at the same time.

I like the DOS like interface; but I also programmed a Windows based graphical interface.

This is very convenient, but I won't keep my computer in my shop.

I could use Renée's small laptop, but she wouldn't be happy about it.

So I use MIT App inventor and programme an Android APP that controls the filtration system.

This is more convenient in the shop and I also have the possibilities to change all the settings with it.

I also thought of designing the boards to the standard size of an easy to find box.

A closed box will keep the dust away from the electronics.

But now, I have a lot of leftover PCBs.

Scones Recipe + KATIE'S BIG NEWS!!!! - Duration: 3:24.

Hey everyone! Thank you for clicking on

this video to hear my big news!

And I do mean big. i'm also i'm going to

I'm also going to show you an easy and delicious recipe

because that's what I do.

Ok, so, the big news is that Connor and I

are leaving New York after living here

for a decade!

Connor and I are moving to....

But first! Let me show you this recipe for scones.

My good friend Natalie and former flatmate -- er, roommate --

used to make these scones

all the time and everyone was so

impressed by them.

Natalie got this recipe from her mom who

tracked down the original recipe for me

so that I could attribute it. And the

original author of this recipe is...Irish

Irish B and B ?!

I've tweaked their recipe just a bit

mostly because I like putting chocolate

in things.

Here's what you'll need: three cups of flour.

I'm using whole wheat pastry flour

but you can also just use all-purpose

flour.

You'll also want a half cup sugar,

two and a half teaspoons baking powder,

a half teaspoon baking soda and 3/4 tsp salt.

By using a whisk to mix these

ingredients together, I'm doing the same

thing as sifting them together, it's just

making sure that all of the clumps are

broken up. Then add the butter:

one-and-a-half sticks of cold unsalted

butter cut into cubes. The original Irish B and B

...that was a horrible accent...

The original Irish B&B recipe says "cut

butter into mixture." I think of it using

the culinary school term I learned:

sablage. So you're going to take your

fingertips to incorporate a fat, in this

case, butter, into the flour. The final

result will look a little bit like crumbs.

Then mix your buttermilk in. Either one

cup of buttermilk or 1 cup of plain

yogurt if you have that on hand, or you

can do what I did, which is make a rich

buttermilk using half-and-half and then

adding a tablespoon of white vinegar. Let

sit for 10 minutes until it curdles. The

original recipe calls for adding orange

peel and raisins, which would be totally

delicious, but I'm gonna go with my

go-to combo: chocolate chips and walnuts.

I added a half cup of each.

Pat the dough onto a floured surface until it's

half an inch thick. Then cut rounds,

and place them on a greased cookie sheet

lined with parchment paper. Brush the top

of the scones with some of that

half-and-half you have on hand, then

sprinkle cinnamon sugar over top.

Bake at 425 degrees for 12 minutes.

⦁ This is something people ask in the comments on my videos daily: Which bike is faster?

Which bike do I prefer?

If I had to choose one, which one would I keep?

⦁ And these questions are very, very difficult to answer.

So I figured I'd set up a race.

A shootout between my CRF230F and my XR250R.

⦁ There's a route just outside of the city that I've run over and over on both bikes

and which now makes a great comparison run because I can go all out on it from start

to finish.

⦁ The route consists of a lot of different stuff, from single track and hill climbs to

whooped out double track and a wide open gravel wash.

So I'll be comparing how quickly the bikes tackled the overall route as well as how quickly

each bike handled each section.

⦁ So back to back on the same day I took the bikes out and shredded the route the best

that I could.

⦁ The route starts in a narrow sand wash which is mostly high speed but has some tricky

rutted turns here and there.

Right off the start, the XR blasted ahead and put a sizeable lead on the 230.

There's no competition on the holeshot, the XR is just way, way quicker in a straight

line.

It took the XR one minute and 25 seconds (1:25) to make it through the narrow sand wash section

while it took the 230 one minute and 32 seconds (1:32).

At 7 seconds quicker, the XR would have been barely out of sight from the 230 by the end

of that section.

⦁ The next section is a meandering, whooped out double track road which follows a huge

wash up into the mountains and has occasional stretches that are littered with rocks.

The XR made it through this section in 9 minutes and 34 seconds (9:34) while the 230 took 9

minutes and 46 seconds (9:46).

Over 10 seconds is a whole lot of breathing room during a race.

⦁ The third section starts in a short but gnarly hill climb and then turns into a winding,

rocky road through a valley.

The XR made it through in 7 minutes and 52 seconds (7:52).

The 230 was actually quicker through this section, only taking 7 minutes and 43 seconds

(7:43).

⦁ The fourth and last section, my favorite section, is a flowing, whooped out single

track riding along a ridge.

The XR blasted through in 3 minutes and 42 seconds (3:42) but the 230 was again faster,

only needing 3 minutes and 35 seconds (3:35) to make it through the single track.

⦁ So there they are, the answers to the questions that I get asked every day.

My XR250R and my CRF230F trade blows.

Overall, the XR was a few seconds faster.

In the more open terrain it was able to really stretch its legs and create a lead over the

CRF230F.

The CRF230F, however, made most of that time up in the tighter areas

of the route.

⦁ A couple of things to keep in mind about these results: My XR250R is very close to

stock.

All it really has is a 277cc oversize bore, some aftermarket bars, a tubeless front tire

and an FMF muffler.

The CRF230F, on the other hand, is very far from stock.

It has always impressed me just how good the XR250R is in nearly stock form.

⦁ Another thing to consider is that had there been a crash or a dead engine start

thrown in, the XR would have fallen behind quickly because of the dang kick starter.

How to Pack More Calories into Meals - Gain Weight - Duration: 2:30.

I know, that some of you guys have a hard time gaining weight.

The basic rule of this process is sustaining a caloric surplus.

In short, you have to eat more calories than you use.

But some of you have a very fast metabolism and really struggle to eat enough.

Here I am going to tell you how to pack more calories into your meals.

Of course the obvious answer is to just eat more,

but sometimes you can't get more volume into you.

Fat is the most calorie dense nutrient,

which means that it has more calories than carbs or protein in the same volume.

So adding a little fat to your meals will result in significant calorie increase,

but won't add much volume.

Let me show you some examples.

I eat oatmeal in the morning, and normally I am having 100 grams of oats

with around 70 grams of raisins.

That is about 580 kcal.

But, by adding additional 50 grams of ground flaxseed,

which barely changes the taste or the volume,

you increase the total calories to 850 kcal.

This is almost 50% increase, just by adding a little bit of seeds.

Let me show you another example.

This is my usual dinner. 100 grams of pasta,

240 grams of garbanzo beans,

kale and tomato sauce.

All of it accounts for approximately 800 kcal.

But if I add 50 grams of ground sunflower to the mix

I get additional 300 kcal, which is almost 40% increase.

And again it doesn't change the taste of the meal very much.

I've been using this method for the last few weeks and I already see a big difference.
