Hi guys. Today I have got a long overdue,
over large collective book haul and I do
have an excuse for why this book haul
is so embarrassingly large. Whether or
not those excuses are valid, is totally
different story. But my first excuse
is that this is very much a collective book haul.
I think some of these books I got
back in October, so I've collected them
over quite a few months. And then also, my
other excuse, is that I am an emotional
book shopper. If I am stressed or just
worried about the state of life, or the
state of the world right now, I buy books.
So yeah. Essentially this book haul is,
'the world has gone to shit and I don't know
what to do about it book haul'. But
without further ado, I will get straight
on into it because as I said, that are
quite a few book to get through.
The first book that I have is 'Radio Silence' by
Alice Oseman and all I know about this
is that it follows a biracial, bisexual
main character and she's struggling to
get through university and not knowing
whether or not she wants to be there and
I think it has something to do with
YouTube maybe or she starts a radio show
or something like that. But I've heard that this is
meant to have the most fantastic
representation and I also think it has
some representation for a demisexual
character and an asexual character, as well
which is fantastic. And this is on my
February TBR. So I'm hoping that I will
get around to it as soon as possible.
I then have another one which again I have
heard the most amazing things about,
despite only just being released and it
is 'A Quiet Kind of Thunder' by Sara Barnard.
All I know about this is that it follows
a main character who is suffering with
severe anxiety, which I think has led to
her having selective mutism and then also
another character, who I believe, or I'm at least
assuming is the love interest, who is deaf.
And I've heard so many great things about
this and also at the front it has the
British sign language I just think is so cool.
Very much on a whim because it
was really, really cheap the supermarket.
I got 'The One Memory of Flora Banks'
by Emily Barr and I have absolutely no idea
what this is about. I haven't heard
anything about it. All I can tell from
the back is that is follows a
character with amnesia, who start to remember
things again. That is all I can tell.
But it sounds very intriguing. Next I have
'If I Was Your Girl' by Meredith Russo and
from what I know about this, it follows a
transgender teen as they start a new
school and they're just hoping for a
fresh start and that is all I know but I
have heard so many wonderful things
about this and know
it was a lot of people's favourite book
of last year. So I am so excited that I
finally have my hands on a copy because
I've been wanting to pick it up for ages
after hearing so many raving reviews
for it. So I'm really very much looking
forward to reading this. Next I have
'Windfall' by Jennifer E. Smith, which I was very
kindly sent by 'MyKindaBook'. Basically
I think it follows a girl who gives her
crush a lottery ticket for his birthday
and he then wins the lottery. And it sounds
like so much fun and I've only read one
other Jennifer E. Smith book before but it was
super cute and really enjoyable. And this
also I am so totally obsessed with the
cover for this and how gorgeous the
colour palette of it is and everything. I don't
ever want to take the ribbon off because
it is just the cutest thing ever.
I also picked up 'Our Chemical Hearts'
by Krystal Sutherland and I know next to
nothing about this book but I've heard
some really good things about it. I just
haven't heard anything about the actual
plot. The only thing that I do know about
it is that I think it's an unexpected love
story. So it kind of between two people
that stereotypical;y wouldn't end up
falling for each other. But that is
literally all I know. I've heard it's
meant to be absolutely heartbreaking,
which makes me both super excited and
also never want to touch it.
Next I have 'Side Effects by Jennifer M. Barry
which I actually won in a
goodreads giveaway, which was really cool.
But basically this is about a high school
student, who's ex-best friend has become
the school bully and he is now suffering
with extreme anxiety disorder and panic
attacks and then a new girl comes to school
and kind of and starts helping him through
his panic attacks and that's all I know.
But it sounds really interesting. I really
enjoy reading books about anxiety, so I'm
looking forward to this. Especially since
I just not heard anything about it before.
Next I have a couple of books
which were very kindly sent to me by
Harper 360 and the first is 'Allegedly'
by Tiffany D. Jackson. And this follows a
black girl, who at the age of nine, was
accused and convicted of killing a white
baby that her mother was looking after.
And at the time she decided there was no
point of setting the record straight but
she is now pregnant and has a
boyfriend, so she decides to try and
clear her name. And I think it basically
follows that and I have a feeling it
very much delves into the justice system
in America. It sounds absolutely
fantastic. And this is coming out on the
23rd February in the UK but
I think this is already out in the US and
other places. They also sent me
'#famous' by Jilly Gagnon which sounds
absolutely adorable and it's dual
perspective and I think it basically follows
two people, the first a girl who took a photo of
her crush and posted it on the internet
and then that photo went viral. And then
also the other perspective, is the guy
whose photo of him went viral. That was a
really awfully constructed sentence. But
it sounds like so much fun and I think
it's basically kind of following the
repercussions of becoming my virally
famous. I'm really excited for it, I
really, really love the front cover of it. It's
adorable and it's kind of giving me 'Fangirl'
vibes. And this comes out on the 23rd of March
in the UK and I'm not sure when it
comes out in the US and other places but
I have feeling it is slightly earlier.
Next I have the book that was probably my
most highly anticipated release for the
whole year and I cannot even begin to put
into words how excited I am for it and
it is 'Mafiosa' by Catherine Doyle, which is
the third book in the 'Blood for Blood' trilogy.
The first is 'Vendetta', the second is 'Inferno'.
And I am so ready for this and yet
at the same time, I am so not ready for this.
Because I just don't want this
trilogy to end because it is so
fantastic. It's basically this kind of,
Romeo and Juliet inspired retelling but
it's set in modern day Chicago and it is
absolutely fantastic. Everything
you could possibly want in a book, is in
this book. And I am so excited for it.
I then also picked up 'With Malice' by Eileen Cook,
which follows a girl who went on a
school trip to Italy and was involved in
a fatal accident and when she wakes up,
she has no memory of the six weeks prior.
I absolutely love thrillers. I love mysteries
and things like that.
I'm just hoping that I don't guess get the
ending to this because I seem to do that
with a lot of YA thrillers.
For only £4.80, I managed to pick up the
entire 'Young Elites' trilogy by Marie Lu.
I really don't know anything about this
trilogy, which is kind of making me even
more excited to pick it up because I really
enjoy going into things having no
idea what I'm getting. I think it's kind
of a fantasy dystopian kind of thing. I
may be completely wrong about that
though but I'm really looking forward to
it and the fact that it was only
£4.80 makes it even better. From the
same shop, I then also picked up 'Glass Sword'
by Victoria Aveyard for only £2
and this is the sequal to 'Red Queen' which I
read when it was first released and
really enjoyed it. But I never carried
on with the series because one, I kind
of forgot about it the year later when
the second book came out. But also
because when this was released in the UK,
it was huge. It was like this big and I
just categorically refused to buy it.
The third book has just come out, so it's kind
of sparked my intrigue more. And I don't know
whether that's the last book, whether it's a
trilogy or series. It's probably like
300 books long, with 10,000 novellas.
I'm not entirely sure when I will get around
to reading this or if I will get around
to reading it. But as I said, at £2,
I won't be too mad at myself I don't end up
picking it up. Next I have
'The School for Good and Evil' by Soman Chainani and
this is a middle grade, that I think
basically follows a princess that
ends up going to the school evil and a
witch that ends up going to the school
for good. And it kind of sounds like the plot
of a Disney movie.
It sounds like so much fun and I've
heard really good things about it.
Next I have the Original Screenplay for
'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'
by J.K. Rowling. Which is the most gorgeous book.
There are illustrations on each page
and on the front there's a tiny little
gold foil Niffler and it is just
beautiful. And I really enjoyed the film, so
I'm really looking forward to this.
I also really enjoy reading scripts, so
I'm really intrigued to see what this is
going to be like. And then for Christmas,
which is another excuse I forgot to list.
Some of these books I got for Christmas. Which is
another reason why I have so many books
in this haul. But for Christmas my brother
got me the Dutch edition of
'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' and I have still
not read this book because I'm terrified
to read 'The Cursed Child'. But he went to,
where did he go? He went to Amsterdam and he
picked this up for me which I'm so
excited about because there's something
so cool about having a book in a
different language. I do not know Dutch.
I don't even know a tiny bit of Dutch.
I could not tell you one word in Dutch but this
is the coolest thing. But I still need to
actually read 'The Cursed Child'.
I then have 'The Thousandth Floor' by Katherine McGee. Which I don't
know all that much about, other than it
is set in New York in the year 2118 apparently.
And it's been described as 'Gossip Girl'
meets 'Pretty Little Liars' but I believe it
has robots or cyborgs something like that.
I'm not entirely sure but anything that
is described anything like 'Pretty Little Liars'
I am all for. I also have 'Gemina'
by Aime Kaufman and Jay Kristoff, which is
the sequel to 'Illuminae'. Which I read
when it first came out and really enjoyed.
Although I didn't love it quite as much
as everybody else did
but the ending was absolutely incredible.
So, there was no way that I wasn't going to
pick up the sequel. I then have 'Charisma'
by Jeanne Ryan and from what I can tell from
the back, this follows a girl who is
described as cripplingly shy and she is
then offered an underground new drug.
And basically is told this will solve all
of her problems and then on the back it
says "But what if the symptoms are
contagious, or worse, deadly."Jeanne Ryan is
the author of 'Nerve' which was the film
that came out in the summer and I really
enjoyed both the book and the film. They
were so entertaining, they were just pure entertainment.
So I'm hoping that is what this will be.
'Brown Girl Dreaming' by Jacqueline Woodson
is a book that I have wanted to
read for absolutely ages. Basically I
think it is Jacqueline Woodson's memoir and
follows her as a black girl growing up
in America, through the sixties and
seventies and it sounds fantastic. And it's
also written in verse, which I'm really
excited about because I've only ever read
one other book written in verse but I
loved it and I'm so intrigued to see how
a memoir will be written through verse. And
also it has deckled edges, which just
makes me so happy. But I'm really, really
looking forward to this and I've heard
some really good things about it. I also
have 'Copper Sun' by Sharon M. Draper
and this follows a fifteen year old girl
who was stolen from her village and taken
to America, where she is sold as a slave to
a plantation owner, who then give her to his
son for his birthday. And I think it
basically follows her there and then
follows her eventual escape. I've heard
amazing things about this, I know it is
very well highly thought after and it's
been on my TBR literally years. So I'm
really excited that I finally have a copy.
I have never been someone that
enjoyed poetry at least, I've never been
someone that thought they enjoyed poetry.
But lately I've kind of dipped my toe in a
little bit and have been testing the
waters and I've found that in fact, I do
actually really enjoy poetry. So I
picked up 'Milk & Honey' by Rupi Kaur
because I'm apparently the only person
left on this planet that doesn't own
this book. I see it absolutely everywhere,
so I decided to pick it up and see what I
think of it because I've just heard the most
wonderful things about it. I also picked
up 'Salt.' which is poetry collection by
Nayyirah Waheed and I don't really know what
I can say about this, other than it is
absolutely stunning. I've read a couple
of poems so far and I've fallen
head over heels in love with it. It is
possibly the most gorgeous thing I've
ever read. So I highly recommend it and
I'm so excited to continue reading it
because so far what I have read has just
been absolutely gorgeous.
And then I have a book that I'm already
head over heels in love with, despite the
fact that I have not read it yet and
that is 'The One and Only Ivan'
by Katherine Applegate and this is very
much a middle grade. I think it may
possibly be a children's book but it
basically follows a gorilla that takes
it a baby elephant and looks after it and
befriends it. And I am such an animal
person and elephants are my favourite
animals ever. So I could not not buy this
because this pulled on every single one
of my heartstrings and I am so looking
forward to and I'm going to save it for
a day that I need cheeping up because i
have a feeling this will do the job perfectly.
And lastly because 'Gilmore Girls'
is one of my all time favourite
shows, for Christmas I was given Lauren Grahams
autobiography 'Talking as Fast as I Can -
from Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls and
Everything in Between'.
She has been in Hollywood movies, she's
been on TV, she's been on Broadway, she's
written books. So I'm really hoping that
you kind of get an insight into those
things and also more of an insight into
the filming of 'Gilmore Girls'. Lauren
Graham is just as funny and smart and
quick witted, as Lorelai is in 'Gilmore Girls'.
So I'm really, really hoping that her
voice comes through in her writing and
yeah I am so, so looking to reading this.
So that is it for my collective book
haul. I would absolutely love to know
which was the last book that you bought
because I feel as though if I hear that
someone else is buying books, it might
kind of help me justify what is probably
the unjustifiably large amount of books
that I've picked up recently and also I'd
really like to know if you have read any of these books
and what you thought of them and which
one you think I should read first because I can
never decide and yeah that is basically
it. I will leave the links to my Twitter,
Instagram, Tumblr, Goodreads, Blog and
Snapchat, which I have just recently got,
in the description box below. So free to
follow me on any of those if you would
like and I just hope you having the most
wonderful day. Bye!
