Tax changes 2017 - who wins and who looses money? - Duration: 3:06.

Tax changes 2017 - who wins and who looses money?

Could you please summarize the most important tax changes for business in Slovakia?

We could divide the most important changes for 2017 into two groups:

changes perceived as positive for businesses e.g. decrease of corporate income tax rate from 22 to 21%,

and changes perceived negatively e.g. re-introduction of dividend tax together

with changes in health and social insurance.

For health insurance maximum assessment basis for calculation of contributions was cancelled entirely

and for social insurance it was increased.

Who pays more and who pays less taxes? Are burdens equally shared?

Regarding changes in contributions to health and social insurance.

Simply put, employees earning more will pay more and their net income will decrease.

The employers will have higher labor costs,

because contributions for social insurance will be calculated from increased assessment basis

and for contributions for health insurance there is no assessment basis at all.

These are negative changes for business for 2017.

Bonus vs. dividends: Which incentive scheme for management would you recommend and who qualifies for what?

Currently, managers are wondering which bonus scheme to choose:

receiving dividends or income in the form of bonuses.

For management and statutory and supervisory bodies the dividend scheme is more profitable.

It entails a dividend tax rate of 7%, but if the profit shares are paid out based on a mandate agreement

or the managers are company shareholders,

it is not necessary to pay social and health insurance contributions.

If they receive a bonus based on their employment agreement,

they shall pay tax in the amount of 19% or 25% (depending on the amount),

as well as full social and health insurance contributions

It means that the management earns more from dividends than bonuses.

Tax strategy for 2017: What would you recommend to your clients?

For 2017, we'd recommend businesses to focus on research and development (if applicable),

because it brings benefits in the form of tax relief.

In the more risky sphere, I'd recommend focusing on transfer pricing,

because it is currently thoroughly checked by the tax authorities in relation to parties

related abroad as well as parties related locally.

L2 Digital IQ Index®: Top Home Care Brands in Digital 2017 - Duration: 2:01.

With sales flat in CPG,

digital distribution and search visibility are critical for home care brands

looking to maintain share.

E-commerce is expected to account for 50 percent of CPG growth,

thanks in large part to Amazon.

As investments in the "Internet of Things" grow among CPG firms,

brands should monitor Amazon's increasingly-popular one-touch Dash button.

and voice-controlled Echo,

whose sales have skyrocketed.

Amazon's investments in private label

also have the potential to impact the ecosystem.

While private label dollar share in the US

plateaued at 18 percent in 2016

some of Amazon's private label offerings

are commanding a greater share of online sales in related CPG categories.

On site, Index brands have shown improvements

but investments are still lacking

63% of brands advertise coupons on their sites,

but only 37% of brands host the coupons themselves.

The CPG industry at large is adapting to the shifting advertising landscape,

projected to double digital ad spending by 2020.

Tide secures the top spot for the second year

in a row in this year's Digital IQ Index: Home Care,

with aggressive investments in e-tailer visibility,

best-in-class, media-rich product pages,

and the Maximized Tide Pod Challenge run across social media platforms.

This study attempts to quantify the digital competence

of 78 Home Care brands operating in the United States.

Measurement of blood pressure as street business - Duration: 2:48.

Since 1991 I live in Denmark and work as a translator. However, in 1997 came under a wave of cuts, was left without a job and returned to Russia for a few months. For the sake of curiosity decided to try the "street business": bought for $ 100 a Japanese instrument for measuring blood pressure (wrist) and portable folding table with chairs. Drew advertising placard on a piece of paper pasted on plywood: "blood pressure Measurement" (so, I thought, easy to understand fellow citizens :- )) and got close to grocery market: the best place, by the way Housewives are an endless stream. From this thread I was able to "extract" the average 35 - 50 people per day. Rates for service in pressure measurement dependent on the client: someone free, someone- a triple fee (to evaluate the "wealthy" client is pretty easy for clothing and demeanor). On the day I earn 100-300 rubles at the current rate. Of course, the work is seasonal (the best thing in the summer, on weekends), but I imagine that even 3-5 thousand rubles per month is already a good asset in the economy. P. S. police I "drove" only once, but in order to avoid other conflicts, it is better not to stay up late!

How to move forward when the other side just won't budge - Duration: 4:52.

Around the world we seem to be stuck in conflicts where neither side will move an inch.

Why does this happen and how do we overcome these stalemates?

It's normal to disagree, especially when it comes to important political topics like

education, economics, and immigration.

Negotiating these conflicts usually means finding common ground, or coming together

to form a solution.

Most of the time this works well.

But negotiations can get emotional and that's when things get messy.

Look at abortion - four decades after Roe versus Wade, we're still torn over the issue.

Or think about he right to bear arms versus gun control, we're still struggling with

that one.

Why are these debates so polarizing, and why can't we ever seem to agree on a solution?

In psychology we call these types of values Sacred Values.

And I don't mean sacred in the religious sense, but sacred in the psychological sense.

They are a part of our identity and they form the bedrock of our moral beliefs.

Because of this, we work really hard to protect them.

Normal strategies to resolve conflict just won't work on sacred values.

I would like to buy your car.

What?

No way!

I worked long hours for it, it is brand new, I just got it!

I will give you 10 million dollars for it.

Sold.

I would like to buy your family farm What?

No way! my family has owned this farm for generations!

My great-grandfather built it with his own hands!

I will give you 10 million dollars for it.

Go BLEEP yourself!

They're the ones with enduring conflict and no easy solutions.

But what do we do when we have to compromise on these values in order to move forward?

Here are three rules you should keep in mind when dealing with someone's sacred beliefs:

Rule 1: You don't get to decide what is sacred to other people.

If I asked you to think about what objects you would save if your house was on fire-

I bet some of our answers would be similar: birth certificates, your laptop, family photos.

But then things would diverge.

Like I'd want to save a stuffed animal that my family gave me when I was born- but this

doll has absolutely no value to you.

If it was in your house, you'd probably think it was a rag.

And just like you don't get to decide what objects are sacred to people, you also don't

get to decide which beliefs a person should or shouldn't find sacred.

Rule 2: All attempts to buy out a sacred belief will backfire.

It turns out that financial motives backfire spectacularly when sacred beliefs are on the

line.

Offering money to compromise on sacred beliefs is considered morally reprehensible and disgusting.

Psychologist Philip Tetlock calls this the The Taboo-Trade off, and he found that offering

money in exchange for compromise on sacred beliefs shuts down conversations and makes

people inflexible during negotiations.

Contrary to economic theories, psychological research shows that the greater the monetary

incentive, the greater the disgust from people holding sacred beliefs.

Let's think about this in terms of the Israeli-palestinian conflict.

This is an old conflict over historic land.

Lots of logical compromises have been proposed, yet a long-term agreement continues to elude

us.

In 2007 researchers interviewed people living in the disputed territories.

Both sides believed their land was sacred and therefore un-tradeable.

When researchers discussed economic compromises, such as the United States offering to financially

support a Palestinian state in exchange for Israel gaining the disputed territories, it

increased moral outrage.

In fact, financial incentives made both sides more supportive of violent opposition.

Rule 3: If you want to get someone else to compromise on a sacred value, you need to

be prepared to compromise on one yourself.

When sacred values are involved, you have to be willing to trade sacred values for sacred

values.

This is what brings people to the table, opens negotiations, and shows both sides that you're

willing to give up something important to come to a solution.

In the case of the Israeli-palestinian dispute, hard-liners who said that they would never

give up land were more willing to compromise when the other party offered to give something

of themselves- For example, Israeli's said that they would be more willing to give up

the disputed territories if the palestinians recognized them as an official state.

Palestinians said they would be more willing to move out of disputed territories if Israel

renounced the right to other lands, like the West Bank.

This is a necessary tragedy, a mutual loss, but one that can chart a new path forward.

When you're stuck in a conflict with someone else, understand what is sacred to that person

and honor it.

If you need a solution, be willing to compromise on something that is equally as important

to you.

Most people are willing to sit down at the same table and find a compromise.

How do sacred values impact your life?

What types of conflicts and compromises have you experienced?

Let us know in the comments below.

Both Ali and I think that this message is more important than ever in todays current

political climate.

We hope that this video helps you find a place of understanding with others on the issues

that you care most about.

Gives me the shudder so cold

Blame it on our neglect

Guilt follow me like a shadow

Decal uh comania my price to pay

Far all my stupidity of the past

Tangled like a ball of thread, pointless

Living in the fading memory , miserable

LUSH Intergalactic Bath Bombs Are Made In The Coolest Way | How Stuff Is Made | Refinery29 - Duration: 2:46.

If all the bathtubs were galaxies and starships,

oh what a bath it would be.

Lush was founded in 1995 in Poole, Dorset.

That's in the U.K.

Lush co-founder Mo Constantine wanted to create a better bath,

one that wouldn't irritate the skin.

She combined essential oils with a little bit of fizz and the first bath bomb was born.

Now it's time for some cosmic color.

There's a yummy yellow

a pretty hot pink

and a beautiful, bold blue.

Each color is mixed with a luster to give it some added sparkle.

Luster is made with the same types of ingredients you would find in your favorite shimmery eye shadow.

For the blue hue, popping candy and an extra biodegradable gold glimmer are added.

The insert is the nucleus of this super cool space ball

and is made up of sodium bicarbonate or baking soda,

a snowflake luster,

a mixture of peppermint and cedarwood oil,

and a bubble mix which holds everything together.

The pressing team works together to press the bath bombs by hand.

One person takes the powder from the bomb and mixes it with citric acid.

The citric acid helps the bomb bind together when pressed.

Once they've mixed the two powder mixtures, they begin to build the bomb layer by layer.

First the blue,

then yellow,

then pink.

Then they press the bombs together using the two halves of the molds.

The extreme force squeezes out all the extra air and creates a perfect sphere of spacey delight.

After the pressing team works their magic,

the bombs sit in the molds overnight to dry.

The intergalactic bath bomb is the key to an interstellar tub party.

Relax, you deserve it.

BOYCOTT NETFLIX - Duration: 3:49.

HEY TRIPPSTERS, ok everybody get together and lets BOYCOTT NETFLIX.. **Laughing* sorry had through a little sarcasm in there.OK this is the dumbest thing, not THE dumbest thing in the

world but it ranks right up there.you know. uh

okay i don't know about you ,but first I have

netflix i also have hulu. UM where there's something on there, that i don't

want to watch

I just ..well ...don't watch it .I don't get

all offended by the fact that they have something on there that i don't like

I don't yell, LET'S BOYCOTT NETFLIX ! I just scroll over to

something else , scroll down to something else. you know.

and go on and not waste my time. I mean isn't it THAT simple .people are wanting to

Boycott Netflix, because of a , and please forgive me if i get this wrong, a new show

that's getting ready to come on Nettflix, called

Dear White People. I think that's what its called But you know, instead of seeing what the show is about, they see a commercial for it

And they go BOYCOTT NETFLIX!!! .. Really... ok, you can't just not

watch it or you can't at least watch

a tiny bit, and see what it's ACTUALLY about before you decide to "boycott" netflix. I mean

people are actually canceling their accounts. How dumb are people? I

mean if you're watching something, be it on Netflix, Hulu, Regular cable, satellite dish, if

you're watching something and you don't like it... well ... let's see.. how

do we handle that.. oh I know .. go on to something else. Change shows,

if you're on TV change channels ..you know

hit the off button... that works too. Then you can't see it. OH MY GOD.. how stupid are

people, that they boycotting everything

is going to fix everything. OKfirst of

all you haven't given the show a chance. yes the trailer kinda sucked, and even

Philip DeFranco will agree with me on that.... Ok they could have done a much better job with the trailer. But still, even

if you're going off of the trailer

don't you think you otta watch it for maybe..5 minutes

before you decided you're gonna

boycott Netflix , and cancel your account. Well your just costing

yourself ...what ..thousands of shows that you like

because they have one that you"THINK"

you won't like.

well that's just kind of a dumb ass thing to do. but that's just my opinion

and i know people that will get pissed, that i would say something like that. But seriously people, think before you act. Before you judge something, and automatically

scream BOYCOTT,

why don't you try to see what it's about

what it's really about first. Or..even better

if you THINK it's going to offend you, then just don't watch it. I mean Netflix has all kinds of shows. And there's probably hundreds, if not thousands on

Netflix, that you will love...... But now you can't see any of them, because you canceled your account like a dumb ass..k, seriously people, stop trying to boycott the world.

it's just stupid, to get THAT offended over something

that's not even out yet. ok and that is

gonna do it for now, because that is just my

opinion. This is ICEPETS QUEEN, and i am TRIPPIN OUT

hey guys we got the alpaca seven years

ago and needed a bat

we love but I he's fantastic with the

animals these South American Mountain

dwellers need yearly vet care in order

to stay healthy

alright who's first let me capture I

know what that faces hit ready to spit

at me like i was gonna give their shots

today and we're going to clip the

toenails and then their teeth are going

to get ground down

good boy maybe we'll start on his feet

it's spotty for the alpacas are looking

forward to it

I think I think like having a hard

surface on the ground like some concrete

or someone LOL yeah yeah for sure

because these are actually mountain

animal yeah and the rocks so here in the

tropics homes tend to not be worn down

like they would on mountaintops and on

rocks see this one tore off a little and

in the wet moist environments they

actually will bend and twist and and get

warped and if nobody trim their feet

they would eventually become lame I mean

try to run without with a high heel on

one foot you're probably gonna hurt your

ankle or knee or you're going to twist a

tendon or ligament and that stuff

happens

ok no it's just your ponytails

it's a painless procedure but this

alpaca isn't convinced he makes a lot of

choices

springer you know once it figures out

what's going on

that's it it's over he just goes off

like a pig squealing okay let's do the

piece I check their teeth because our

pockets have no upper insiders little

and their lower incisor is continually

grow so if they get too long and out of

place it can make it a really hard time

for them to to eat and chew think I've

ever met another likes to have their I

don't blame him i don't like going to

the dentist out on that and I don't

think they do either he's gonna spit at

you

gurjit ated stomach contents like right

in the pupil

and the dentistry is precision work on a

moving target one more buddy little more

he's much calmer without last bit though

when i first started there was almost no

molar contact with insights from me that

you can actually tell your food

Hack My Life - Gaming the System: Cab Grab - Duration: 3:05.

Taxi. Taxi.

Rush hour in big cities is the worst!

It's just a mob of angry people all fighting for the same cab.

Yeah, now, whether you live in a big city

or you're just visiting one,

we're gonna show you how to stand out from the crowd

and hack your way into the back of a cab.

This is Gaming the System.

Kevin: Today, we're testing

out three hacks

that should help you hail a cab faster,

and we're doing it at peak rush hour,

so the majority of cabs are already full.

The average wait time

for a cab

in New York City is five minutes.

If we can beat that time, we'll consider the system gamed.

Our first hack, believe it or not -- it's a wad of cash.

Ooh, la la!

The thinking here is that if cabbies

see you flashing a little green, they'll pick you up faster.

Brooke: Flash that cash. We got a stack.

Oh, this guy likes the sight of your cash.

Oh. He didn't.

Wow.

Come on, buddy.

I wonder if they think you're trying to do

an illegal transaction with me.

This guy might cut

across four lanes of traffic.

No, he just got someone.

Oh, she's gonna? Oh, okay.

Did she just upstream us?

This is gonna be a battle right here.

-But I got a wad of cash.

-Yeah.

Are you kidding me?! I had a wad of cash!

[ Mockingly ]

Enjoy your ride.

[ Buzzer ]

Our next hack is a whistle.

Brooke: Using a whistle is a trick

that doormen at hotels

and fancy apartment buildings use

when they need to hail a cab for someone.

Let's see if it will work for little old me.

Okay, we got five minutes to use that whistle to get a cab.

Oh, I'm gonna hail a semi.

[ Whistle blowing ]

[ Ding ]

He made eye contact with me. Sorry, guys.

Gotta have a whistle to get a cab in New York.

How you doing?

And for our final hack, it's the lame duck.

Kevin: All right, it's not the most ethical thing in the world,

but let's see if these crutches can score me

some sympathy points and a quicker ride.

[ Grunting ]

Oh, my God.

[ Grunts ] Come on.

Oh, come on! I got a busted wingie!

Sir, si-- Oh, come on!

Where's your soul?!

God!

All these cabs are taken!

Sir, let me hop on the back. No? Okay.

Okay, four minutes,

buddy.

You know, maybe if you're lucky, an ambulance will pick you up.

Okay, I got a minute. You'll see. This is my one.

Come on, I'm gonna lock eyes, give it a nice wave.

Oh, this guy up here. Come on, buddy. Come on.

Oh! Oh, eye contact!

Blinker! Oh!

Oh, sweet victory. [ Ding ]

Blinker! Oh!

Oh, thank you. Curbside service because I am injured.

Byeeeeee!

Oh. Oh, look who it is.

It's 2017's biggest a-hole.

Oh! My ankles are fine!

I guess that's a hack.

And this bad boy got me into a cab in under a minute.

Want to get us a ride out of here?

Yeah, let's do it. So I'm just gonna...

Oh! Why?!

Get your little crutch out there, bud.

Hack My Life - Game the System: Phone Operator - Duration: 2:46.

You know when you dial a company's 1-800 number

and you get all those robot voices screaming at you?

They're not there to help you. No, they're there to delay you

so the company can handle more calls.

So today, we're gonna call a customer service number

known for its excruciatingly

long wait times.

Yeah. It can take up to six minutes

to get past an automated robot,

so anything less will be considered a hack.

Hack #1 -- Secret code.

According to the Internet, you can use the code #0#0

to bypass most automated phone systems.

All right. Let's finger-blast Skynet.

-[ Sighs ] What? -I'm gonna try the code.

I'm an automated system

that can handle complete sentences.

How can I help you today?

Okay, please hold while

I transfer you

to the next available specialist!

Oh!

Ah!

Hey!

#0. Pound through it!

Boom!

Time for Hack #2, the operator hack.

For this one, all you've got to do is say "Operator!"

and that should automatically get you through to a human.

I'm an automated system that can handle complete sentences.

So, tell me. How can I help you today?

Operator.

[ Keyboard clacking ]

Oh, that's gross.

They have fake typing noises?

Please bear with me

just a moment.

Please press 1 for technical support,

press 2 for help with a recent order,

and press 3 for sales.

I feel like you're still talking to a machine,

and the whole point of this hack was to talk to a human.

Operator!

Please tell me your reason for calling today.

Operator.

[ Keyboard clacking ]

Please bear with me just a moment.

[ Instrumental music playing ]

[ Buzzer sounds ]

Should we try Hack #3?

We should definitely move on to our final hack.

For this one, we're gonna harness our rage

because many of these machines are designed to sense anger

in your voice.

You shout something naughty,

the machine's gonna get you right to a human.

So, we're gonna swear at some robots?

[Bleep] yeah!

Let's do this. Let them have it.

Are there any children watching right now,

which is most of our core audience,

put on some earmuffs.

Your call may be recorded

for...

[Bleep] you!

Eat a [bleep] [Bleep] face!

So, tell me,

how can I help you today?

[Bleep] in your ass. [bleep] you, bitch!

You [bleep] I can

hear your voice,

but it doesn't sound like

you're talking to me.

[Bleep] pissed, you bitch!

Okay.

Eat a [bleep]

Let me transfer you

to the next available specialist.

Boom!

[Bleep] right, you're going to.

Hi, this is David. Can I have your order number, please?

[Bleep] you, Dave!

Oh! Oh!

Okay.

When performing the hack,

be careful that the hack stops once you've achieved your goal,

which is speaking to a human being, Brooke.

Oops.

Hack My Life - Hack vs. Hack: Frozen Faceoff - Duration: 3:35.

Welcome everyone

to the Hack My Life: Frozen Faceoff!

-Yeah! -Yeah!

Today, Jeremy, Ben, and Nate will be competing

to see which hack can keep them the safest and the sturdiest

as they attempt to navigate our icicle course.

Our first hack is grippy socks.

You can pull them over a boot or a shoe

and create extra traction.

Our next hack is sandpaper.

You're gonna want to cut this to be the same shape as your shoe,

secure it with some duct tape,

and this gritty texture should give your shoes some extra grip.

Our third hack -- screws.

Use a screwdriver to sink several half-inch sheet-metal screws

into the sole of your shoe.

The idea is that the screws will dig into the surface of the ice

and give you a more solid base.

Right off the top.

Jeremy, what are you thinking?

I think I'm gonna go with the sandpaper.

Ben, what's your hack?

I want the socks.

Okay.

Nate, the way our show goes is if you're last in line,

that's the hack you get.

-Yeah.

No choices here, so...

Well, I'm actually pretty excited about that,

'cause I can use the screws as more like a blade,

so I may actually be able to skate.

Okay, guys. Let's lace up these hacks!

♪♪

Kevin: All right, gentlemen.

Here is how this frozen face-off is going down.

You'll begin

by taking out the trash,

winding your way down the ice to those garbage bins.

Brooke: Then you'll pick up your morning coffee and paper

and zigzag your way through our slippery slalom course

and into home.

All right, gentlemen.

Helmets on, trash bags up.

Hackers, are you ready?

On the count of 3, 2...

[ Whistle blows ]

-Whoa! -Ah!

Looks like a slight stumble by Nate in his screw shoes

right out of the gate,

but he's making up time and now he's in the lead.

Brooke: Sandpaper close behind.

Grippy socks not really gripping anything at all.

Go, Ben.

Ooh!

Oh, he's got his bags in the garbage.

Lots of speed with the screw shoes,

but he's sliding everywhere on the turns.

And look out -- here comes grippy socks.

Oh, but not without slamming into the backboards first.

Sandpaper's really catching up, though.

Lots of great traction with that hack.

And those grippy socks -- still not living up to their name.

Oh, slow! -Dripping!

-Oh!

-Down goes screw shoes!

That slippery slalom just took Nate right out.

But he's back up!

He's back up!

Oh [bleep]

Coming down the final stretch, it is neck and neck!

It is so close into the final turn,

and Jeremy comes

with a slide across the finish,

some spilled coffee.

Nate just behind and that is --

Oh, wait. Wait up.

Hey, Ben.

Oh, no! [ Bleep ] [ Laughing ] Oh, no!

Everybody okay? Everybody survive?

-I'm great. -Yeah, we're great.

Ben, let's start with you.

I crossed the line.

You did make it over the line. Take me through your hack.

It didn't work from the very beginning.

It was frozen on the bottom. They were warm, but...

Brooke: Okay. Right.

For the actual, like, running and stuff, no.

Nate, walk us through the screws on the bottom of your shoe.

So, the top speed was there,

and the acceleration wasn't as great,

but the maneuverability was just the worst.

I felt myself

going horizontal.

Just so you know, it was beautiful.

-Thank you. -It was...

Jeremy, with your sandpaper...

The sandpaper got great traction, got great speed,

and great maneuverability.

Super comfortable.

And it's not iced over like Ben's grippy slippers?

No, it's -- Ice will build up,

but as you walk, it'll kick it off,

and as long as the sandpaper grit is still there,

I think the traction is pretty spectacular.

Congrats to you, Jeremy, and your sandpaper shoes.

You win the coveted Golden Snow Shovel!

What Did Trump Know & When Did He Know It? White House in Crisis Mode over Flynn & Russia Scandals - Duration: 10:23.

AMY GOODMAN: The New York Times and CNN are reporting phone records and intercepted calls

show that members of Donald Trump's presidential campaign had repeated contacts with senior

Russian intelligence officials in the lead-up to the November elections.

The Times reports U.S. law enforcement and intelligence agencies intercepted the communications

around the same time they were discovering evidence that Russia was trying to disrupt

the presidential election by hacking into the Democratic National Committee.

The New York Times and CNN published their stories Tuesday night, less than 24 hours

after Trump's national security adviser, Michael Flynn, resigned following revelations

he spoke with the Russian ambassador about U.S. sanctions during a late December phone

call.

Former Acting Attorney General Sally Yates had warned Trump's administration weeks

ago that Flynn might be lying about the call, but the White House took no action for 17

days.

Days after Yates issued the warning, Trump fired her for refusing to enforce his Muslim

ban.

Michael Flynn is at least the third Trump official to reportedly have ties to Russia.

Others include Trump's former campaign chair, Paul Manafort, and former Trump adviser Carter

Page.

According to The New York Times, call records show Manafort was in touch with Russian officials

before the election.

Hours before the Times published its exposé, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer was

questioned if anyone from the Trump campaign was in touch with Russia before the election.

JONATHAN KARL: Back in January, the president said that nobody in his campaign had been

in touch with the Russians.

Now, today, can you still say definitively that nobody on the Trump campaign, not even

General Flynn, had any contact with the Russians before the election?

PRESS SECRETARY SEAN SPICER: My understanding is that what General Flynn has now expressed

is that during the transition period—well, we were very clear that during the transition

period, he did—he did speak with the ambassador.

JONATHAN KARL: I'm talking about during the campaign.

PRESS SECRETARY SEAN SPICER: I don't have any—I—there's nothing that would conclude

me that anything different has changed with respect to that time period.

JONATHAN KARL: And why would the president—if he was notified 17 days ago that Flynn had

misled the vice president, other officials here, and that he was a potential threat to

blackmail by the Russians, why would he be kept on for almost three weeks?

PRESS SECRETARY SEAN SPICER: Well, that's—that's not—that's—that assumes a lot of things

that are not true.

The president was informed of this.

He asked the White House counsel to review the situation.

The first matter was whether there was a legal issue.

And we had to review whether there was a legal issue, which the White House counsel concluded

there was not, as I stated in my comments.

This was an act of trust.

AMY GOODMAN: On Tuesday morning, President Trump initially responded to Michael Flynn's

resignation by tweeting, quote, "The real story here is why are there so many illegal

leaks coming out of Washington?

Will these leaks be happening as I deal on North Korea etc.?"

Earlier today, Trump tweeted, "The fake news media is going crazy with their conspiracy

theories and blind hatred.

@MSNBC & @CNN are unwatchable.

@foxandfriends is great!" he tweeted.

He then added, "Information is being illegally given to the failing @nytimes & @washingtonpost

by the intelligence community (NSA and FBI?).Just like Russia," unquote.

The pro-Trump website Breitbart.com has described the dismissal of Flynn as part of a "deep

state coup."

On Capitol Hill, Congressman Elijah Cummings, the ranking Democrat on the House Committee

on Oversight and Government Reform, called for a congressional probe into Trump's ties

to Russia.

REP.

ELIJAH CUMMINGS: Why did Flynn continue to sit in on most—the most sensitive classified

meetings until just two days ago?

Ladies and gentlemen, something is wrong with that picture.

Who at the White House—and I want the press to press these questions.

Who at the White House decided to do nothing for three weeks as Flynn sat in on meeting

after meeting after meeting?

Did the president decide to wait?

Did counsel decide to wait?

Something is wrong here.

AMY GOODMAN: We go now to Washington, D.C., where we're joined by Democratic Congressman

Ted Lieu of California, a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, served on active

duty in the U.S. Air Force and continues to serve as a colonel in the Air Force Reserves.

Congressman, welcome to Democracy Now!

Your response, first of all, to the resignation, the forced resignation, of General Mike Flynn

as national security adviser?

REP.

TED LIEU: Well, thank you, Amy, for that question.

And let me say that, America, we have a problem.

The president of the United States knew for weeks that his national security adviser lied

to the vice president, lied to the American people and was vulnerable to blackmail by

the Russians.

And the president did nothing—until the press exposed the truth a few days ago.

That means the president placed the interests of Russia above that of the American people.

That is not acceptable.

And then we learn, last night, that Trump campaign aides had multiple contacts with

Russian intelligence agents during the presidential campaign.

And it's a safe bet to say they were not talking about the weather.

AMY GOODMAN: So talk about the significance of this.

Again, what the allegations are, is during the campaign, Manafort, among them, the campaign

chair, didn't just have a conversation with, but repeated contacts with.

What was the significance?

And what do you understand was the context for these communications?

REP.

TED LIEU: We don't know what the content of the conversations were, but the fact that

they were even with Russian intelligence agents raises huge red flags.

And because there were many of these contacts, that aggravates the red flags.

And what this shows is there is now the possibility of collusion between the Trump campaign and

the Russian government.

If in fact there was collusion, that is a serious federal crime, and then it raises

issues of what did Donald Trump know and when did he know it.

AMY GOODMAN: So let's talk about what did Donald Trump know and when did he know it.

Flynn said in his resignation letter that he had inadvertently briefed the vice president-elect

and others with incomplete information.

Why do you think it took Trump weeks?

I was also interested in Sean Spicer's White House press briefing yesterday, that he talked

about the vice president and others were given—that according to the president, the vice president

and others were given false information.

They don't actually say that the president was.

REP.

TED LIEU: Donald Trump, according to media reports, knew for weeks, from the Department

of Justice, that Michael Flynn was vulnerable to blackmail by the Russians, because he lied

about the content of his conversations with the Russian ambassador when he told Vice President

Pence that they did not discuss sanctions, when in fact they did.

And Michael Flynn's resignation letter essentially confirms that fact.

So Donald Trump knew.

You now had a U.S. national security adviser in that position who could be blackmailed

by the Russians, and Donald Trump was OK with that—until a few days ago, when the press—and

thank goodness for the press—exposed what had happened.

AMY GOODMAN: Let's turn to Donald Trump speaking in July, candidate Trump, when he

called on Russia to hack Hillary Clinton's email.

DONALD TRUMP: Russia, if you're listening, I hope you're able to find the 30,000 emails

that are missing.

I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press.

AMY GOODMAN: That was in July, Congressman Lieu.

REP.

TED LIEU: No American should ask a foreign government to hack another American's emails.

That is completely unacceptable.

And now Donald Trump is president of the United States, and we're learning more about the

contacts of his campaign with the Russian government.

We absolutely need a bipartisan congressional probe.

This is serious.

We have a Russia that has done this huge, massive cyber-attack on the United States

to influence our elections.

I encourage everybody watching to go ahead and google "unclassified intelligence report,"

and you will see that this unclassified intelligence report on Russia shows that they hacked our

government, they hacked 20 state election boards, and they tried to undermine our democracy

and help Trump and hurt Secretary Clinton.

Highly disturbing.

AMY GOODMAN: President Trump is tweeting up a storm this morning.

Among his tweets, "This Russian connection non-sense is merely an attempt to cover-up

the many mistakes made in Hillary Clinton's losing campaign."

Congressman Lieu, your response?

REP.

TED LIEU: That is a bizarre tweet.

The press doesn't care at this point about Hillary Clinton's campaign.

What they care about is was there collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian

government, what are the connections between Trump associates and Russian intelligence

agents, and what did Trump know and when did he know it, because these are very serious

allegations.

These are the kind of allegations that get people sent to federal prison.

AMY GOODMAN: Ted Lieu, we're going to break and then come back to this discussion.

Ted Lieu is Democratic congressman from California, member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs

, served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force and is a colonel in the Air Force Reserves.

Among the things we want to talk about, actually, Yemen, as well, but also investigations by

Congress, the Republican-led Congress, where would they be?

What committee?

Stay with us.
