February Book Haul [CC] - Duration: 5:39.

Hi everyone! My name is Caroline. Welcome to my

channel, CarolineReads. I talk about lots of

bookish things here, and today I'm going to

be talking about what books I bought in

February, because I am a book buying addict.

If you've seen my Books I Brought to College

Bookshelf tour , you may be a little spoiled for

what books I got, but I did buy some more

after I filmed that, so you won't be

completely spoiled. But anyways, I'm going

to get into what books I bought during the month

of February. I don't think I will be buying

anymore, however, who knows? It's me. So...

Cinder! I got this from Book Outlet, because I

have a Book Outlet obsession. Other books I

have for you... Scarlet, and...Cress! I fell in

love with the series I think, around Cress.

I just connected with the characters

at this point. When I went to read

Scarlet, I couldn't get into reading

Scarlet's perspective because I was so

used to reading Cinder's perspective, but

then they brought Cress in, and Throne was

there, and the story was great, and I loved it.

Also, I got the bonus content inside with

these editions. I think I spent four

dollars and 24 cents on each of them, so I

think I did a pretty good thing by

buying them when Book Outlet had a sale.

Those are the books that I bought from the

Lunar Chronicles series.

Winter is not a paperback at this point,

so I could purchase it, because I want

a full fricking set, y'all! I do not want a

clunky hardback, and three paperbacks. And

I didn't want to spend the money to get hardbacks, because

I'm not about that life. And if you haven't

heard about the Lunar Chronicles, it's a

futuristic fairy tale saga. Cinder talks

about Cinderella, but she's a cyborg.

Pretty cool!

Scarlet talke about Red Riding Hood,

big surprise! And Cress is basically a

Rapunzel retelling, but she's trapped in a

satellite. That's pretty cool! And then,

are you ready?

Wires and Nerve! The first graphic novel based off the Lunar

Chronicles with Ikko the Android as the

main character. The cover blew me away! I

looked at this at Target, and I was like... I must have you.

I must have you. And I love it so much!

I finished it yesterday, and it was wonderful! The

artwork itself is

beautiful! Like, it's very bluey and gray-y.

I love the way that the characters are

drawn out, and you can like, I don't

know, see them for the first time? That's awesome! So

yes! Look at the beautiful people! Highly

recommend you check that out after you finish

the Lunar Chronicles. And then the last

book that I bought from Book Outlet...

Truthwitch by Susan Dennard, because I've

heard non-stop things about this book for

months! I've never read this book and i

still haven't.

I'm hoping that I'll be able to get to

it someday, but I love fantasy and magic.

And the cover, I always thought was some

weird cartoon with a girl with blonde

hair because that's what it looks like

from a distance. No, it's just her

cloaky scarf thing, so yeah, I don't know

how I feel about the cover. I will read

this. I haven't heard much about it, I

just kind of know that there are witches,

and they have powers, and this witch can tell

if someon's lying? That's about it.

And I found it on Book Outlet, so I was like, heck to the yes.

Moving on, if you were not aware I am a

major fan of The Selection series by

Kiera Cass, and boy oh boy! Did I need to continue that

obsession. It's The Selection Coloring Book! I'm so excited, guys. I've

already colored in a bunch.

I already colored in "Hello my dear", the most

iconic quote from the series, ever. Are you proud of me?

Are you proud of me?

I'm proud of me. I think it's pretty. We got the

classic American and Aspen in the treehouse,

I don't know what to do with their skin, cause otherwise

they just look like ghosts in white, but I don't

have any tan-ish coloring pencils. That's a

problem. And then I have, "True love is usually the

most inconvenient kind". I started on this

one, which is America's bedroom in the

palace, and did a lot on this one.

Yes! And it's so pretty, I love the art in

this book, and I'm just trying to do it

justice. With my measly colored pencils

and my inexperienced artistic mind. So I'm

really happy that I got this, I love it

so much. It's such a big book and it

covers every single book in the

Selection series. It has quotes and it has

drawings. Prepare to see it on instagram at

some point, I'm sure it will get there.

And finally, I have not yet read

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, despite how many

people have told me, you have to read it!

It's wonderful.

They have not explained it to me well, other

than the fact that they're a bunch of these

morally dark characters, they have like a

heist,

they're good bad characters, and there's

like a complex story, and there's a lot

of representation in the sexual

orientations. And I think it sounds

awesome, but it's a very character driven

story, in a fantastic world in the

Grisha world. I have not read the Grisha

trilogy, so will that impact my experience?

Maybe. So, I'm really hoping to get

into it, and to love it as much as other

people claim. I don't know, we will see.

Anyways, that's what i bought. I hope you

is that the land now is starting to give up its secrets and they're finding rocks up

there that when people lay on them they get rejuvenated.

And I don't mean this woo-woo metaphysical stuff.

And we've walked the land, we've traced the land and cut trails into places and what

we knew we had that was beautiful, when started taking away at the top of it, we found out

that underneath it was gorgeous.

And we have found some real metaphysical stuff there that's going to be very difficult

for anyone to prove.

There's a great, big, gigantic crystal down under there that makes this site very sacred

for the Chumash Indians and Indians before that.

And I don't know if those Indians were from this planet or not.

U.S. food company Kraft Heinz Co (KHC.O) withdrew its proposal for a $143-billion merger with

larger rival Unilever Plc (ULVR.L), the companies said on Sunday, raising questions about Kraft's

next steps and whether it could turn its focus to another target.

Kraft had made a surprise offer for Unilever in a bid to build a global consumer goods

behemoth that was flatly rejected on Friday by Unilever, the maker of Lipton tea and Dove

soap.

Kraft withdrew its offer because it felt it was too difficult to negotiate a deal following

the public disclosure of its bid so early following its approach to Unilever, according

to people familiar with the matter who requested anonymity to discuss confidential deliberations.

Some key concerns raised during talks included potential UK government scrutiny as well as

differences between the companies' cultures and business models, one of the people said.

Kraft was forced to publicly disclose its offer to Unilever on Friday to comply with

Britain's takeover regulations, after rumors of its approach to Unilever circulated among

stock traders.

Under U.K. takeover rules, Kraft's public withdrawal of its offer precludes it from

reviving takeover talks with Unilever for six months.

The companies did not provide details of the reason for ending the discussion in a statement.

A combination would be the third-biggest takeover in history and the largest acquisition of

a UK-based company, according to Thomson Reuters data.

The combined entity would have $82 billion in sales.

A merger would have been put under the microscope by UK regulators.

This weekend, Prime Minister Theresa May ordered top officials to investigate the proposed

deal to see if it posed any potential threats to the country's economic interests, the Financial

Times reported.

May has been adamant that the government should play a more active role in vetting proposed

foreign acquisitions of UK companies.

She had previously singled out Kraft's 2010 acquisition of another British household name,

Cadbury Plc, as an example of a deal that should have been blocked.

A deal for Unilever would have marked the next installment of Brazilian private equity

firm 3G Capital Management Inc's longstanding strategy of buying up food companies and slashing

costs.

In 2013, 3G teamed up with billionaire investor Warren Buffett to acquire Heinz and then purchased

Kraft two years later.

It is now the second-largest shareholder in Kraft, behind Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway

Inc (BRKa.N).

Under 3G, Kraft's margins have widened to among the highest in the industry.

They are around 30 percent, compared to 15 percent at Unilever.

The breakdown in deal talks sparked speculation among analysts and investors about whether

Kraft might attempt to purchase another large consumer goods company as a backup plan.

Its bid for Unilever, where more than 60 percent of sales come from home and personal care

products, signals a willingness to make big buys outside of its historic area of focus

- food - said Sanford Bernstein analyst Ali Dibadj.

He cited Colgate-Palmolive Co (CL.N) as one potential target, noting that its stock popped

4 percent Friday on news that Kraft was eyeing Unilever.

Germany aims to deport record number of rejected asylum seekers in 2017

Germany deported a record 80,000 migrants denied asylum last year and that figure will

rise again in 2017, a top official said, as Chancellor Angela Merkel seeks to win back

conservative voters before elections in September.

Peter Altmaier, Merkel's chief of staff, told Bild am Sonntag newspaper that nearly half

of 700,000 asylum requests made in 2016 had been rejected, spelling another record high

in deportations this year.

To placate conservatives put off by Merkel's decision in 2015 to open German borders to

refugees, leaders of her Christian Democrat party (CDU) have been pushing to deport more

migrants whose applications have failed or foreigners who have committed crimes.

Altmaier said it was important to send these people home promptly in order to maintain

a high level of public support for the asylum system.

Germany has taken in more than a million migrants in the last 18 months, often fleeing war and

turmoil in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Those seeking asylum need to show they would face persecution at home.

Many whose applications are rejected have nevertheless been allowed to stay temporarily,

a practice that Merkel's conservatives want to scale back.

"We sent home 80,000 last year whose asylum applications were rejected - that's a record,"

Altmaier said.

"And the number will rise again further.

There were some 700,000 asylum applications in 2016 and nearly 300,000 were rejected.

We'll be sending these people home quickly because if we don't it'll damage our credibility

as a state based on the rule of law."

Merkel has long argued the country needs to keep its doors open to those fleeing persecution

while her Bavarian sister party, the Christian Social Union (CSU), wants an upper limit of

200,000 refugees per year.

Merkel has refused that demand and the two parties have suffered a slump in support as

a result of their squabbling before the Sept. 24 election.

A poll in Bild am Sonntag showed the center-left Social Democrats (SPD) moving ahead of the

conservative bloc for the first time since 2006.

Some polls put the right-wing, anti-immigrant Alternative for Germany in third place.

Altmaier said he hoped the upper house of parliament, where the SPD and Greens can block

the government, would soon agree to change the status of Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco

to allow automatic and swift rejections of asylum seekers from those countries.

He also said that rejected asylum-seekers can live safely in some parts of Afghanistan.

UAE expects to award $5.4 billion deals at defense fair expo says

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) awarded 4.5 billion dirhams ($1.2 billion) in military

procurement deals on Sunday, part of a total of 20 billion dirhams worth of purchases it

expects to make at an arms fair this week, a spokesman for the expo said.

The deals awarded to local and international companies on Sunday included a 2 billion dirham

award to the UAE's NIMR Automotive, part of Tawazun Holdings, for the supply of 400 armored

vehicles to the UAE Armed Forces, Rashid al Shamsi, a spokesman for the International

Defence Exhibition (Idex), said.

"We expect (to award) more than 20 billion dirhams in contracts by the end of Idex,"

he said.

Over 1,200 companies are participating at Idex, the region's largest defense expo.
