Good afternoon and welcome to Cosplay Factory

And today I'm here to teach you how to make the twisted wood effect

This way when we are finished we can do things like these

And now, without further delay, let's go through the list of materials and let's get started!

For this tutorial we will need

Expanded polystyrene, bowl, acetone

wood rod 8mm and foam 6mm

Napkins, brown paint and Bitumen from Judea

Contact cement and brush

Let's get started!

The first thing we will have to do is use a strip of foam about 65 centimeters and 1.5 centimeters

And glue it to the back with contact cement, we will use a piece of cardboard to not stain the cutting table

Once we have glued the piece of foam we will do the same with a wooden rod this will be the base on which we will prepare the effect of twisted wood

We can help a pair of tweezers to hold the rod and in this way is not in contact with any surface, since we will have to glue it all sides

If you do not have the same tweezers that I use I do not worry, a pair of clothing tweezers can do the same function

The type of rod that we use is indifferent can be of wood like the one that we are using, or aluminum or PVC or fiber, etc.

It is a question of having a solid surface on which to apply the effect

The rod will have to be one centimeter thinner than the final thickness we want for our piece

Once we have glued the rod on all sides let the contact cement dry for five or ten minutes and proceed to join both pieces

Using the support in which we have put the rod we will roll the foam from one end to the other

If you are going to use the resulting piece like the handle of for example a mallet a hammer, leave a piece of the rod free without putting any foam, this way you can embed the rod in the head of the mallet

In my case as I still do not know that I will use this rod I will leave free space on both sides

If while you are rolling the foam, this part is not worried unite and continue where you were going, as this will not affect the final result

Once you have rolled the foam on the rod we will rotate it on itself so that it will adhere correctly to the rod

Then we have to let it dry for 24 hours so that the contact cement of areas where there is no foam is completely dry

Now that 24 hours have passed we will begin preparing the polystyrene paste, diluting white cork in acetone, if you want to know more about this paste, I will leave in the description a link to a more specific tutorial

Once we have a sufficient amount of paste, we will place the rod in its support and we will roll in this the polystyrene paste

We will make sure that there is no gap and give a thin layer allowing the reliefs formed by the foam to be seen

When the paste is dry, it will slightly transparent, so the color of the foam will affect the finish

For this type of twisted wood effect I recommend using red or black foam

If you run out of polystyrene paste do more until you have covered the entire area of the rod that is covered with foam

Now you have to let it dry for two days, so that the paste completely dry

Once it is dry, we can proceed to the next step

Now that it is dry we will proceed to paint, we will use brown acrylic paint and a brush and of course to avoid stains we will cover our hands with latex gloves

We will give a first layer of brown paint and then we will remove the excess with the aid of a napkin

Why are Floppy Cables Twisted? [Byte Size] | Nostalgia Nerd - Duration: 5:46.

Hello, and welcome to Byte Size.

Today's question is; Why are floppy cables twisted?

It's the age old question.

A question that has been boggling mankind for decades.

Why do floppy ribbon cables contain a twist?

I've wondered this from the moment I first opened my PC to reveal it's glorious contents.

It looks like a hack.

Something wasn't quite right in the design, but was fixed by reversing a few wires.

And this is essentially, accurate.

Modern systems generally lack our beloved A: drive.

That magical slot which brought such a wide variety of sound and volatility to proceedings,

but go back a couple of decades and these devices were completely essential.

During the 1990s they were commonly connected directly to the motherboard, much like your

hard drive, and with a cable very much reminiscent to your hard drive's IDE connection, however

whereas an IDE cable has 40 wires, the floppy cable only has 34.

Much like an IDE cable, a floppy ribbon usually has multiple connectors.

For IDE these were used to connect up to 2 drives which could then be denoted as a slave

drive, or a master drive, allowing 2 hard drives or a hard drive and CD drives to be

linked to a single IDE channel.

Traditional floppy cables would have 5 connections.

One to attach to the motherboard, with 2 for the A: drive, depending on whether it's a

5 1/4" drive - which use card edge connections, or a 3.5" - which use pin header connections,

and 2 for the B: drive.

In later systems the 5 1/4" connectors were negated, as was sometimes the B: drive connection,

meaning a cable could just have the drive and motherboard connector.

So that's all good and dandy, but what about this little twist?

To answer this we have to go back to the birth of floppy drives - in an IBM PC sense at least,

and as usual we begin with the IBM 5150.

Back then floppy drives relied on a drive select jumper to determine which drive as

A: and which drive was B:.

These jumpers required setting, even if there was only 1 floppy unit in the system.

With 2 drives installed, this was essential so that the single floppy header could determine

which drive it was talking to on the single cable.

If you wanted to install a new drive in your single drive system, then you'd have to make

sure the jumpers were set correctly on each drive so the system could differentiate between

them.

Likewise, if you wanted to remove a floppy, you'd have to remove the one setup as the

B: drive, or swap the jumper settings over.

This doesn't sound like much of a chore, but IBM realised that it was a pain swapping jumpers

around when dealing with mainframes.

Their solution for this was to setup every floppy drive to be a B: drive as standard

and instead rely on the cable to determine which is which.

The twisted wire numbers 10 to 16.

Wires 11,13 and 15 are ground wires which carry no signals, however wire 10 and 16 are

the motor enable wires for drives A and B respectively, whilst 12 and 14 are drive select

B and A respectively.

Therefore, by inverting these wires, any drive after the twist automatically becomes the

A: drive and the drive before the twist remains as a B: drive.

So rather than messing around with jumpers, you simply plugged the last connector into

the floppy you wanted as A: and the other connector would plug into B:.

The other wires carrying the data and head select routines would then only apply to which

drive was selected by the floppy controller, as an unselected drive simply ignores the

input.

For a while some systems actually retained the jumper approach or even actually tried

to use their own hack, such as twisting the signals on the motherboard rather than the

cable, but this just caused confusion, especially when a twisted cable was used, and the IBM

standard was eventually adopted by everyone.

It's quite a simple hack, which although gives the ribbon cable an "after-thought" appearance,

works beautifully and saves us from losing all those plastic jumper connectors under

our desks for the rest of eternity.

So what about our IDE cables and hard drives?

Well, there was actually a cable select protocol which used the exact same idea.

To use it, both devices needed to be setup for "cable select", ironically through the

use of a jumper, and then through use of a specific cable, wire 28 is only connected

to the master drive.

This means that in this instance, the master drive needs to be the middle connector and

the slave the end connector, the opposite of our floppy setup.

This inconsistent implementation was one reason it never really caught on, unlike our simple,

but beloved floppy cable twist.

Strangely there was also a cable which did the twist before the first connector, and

then twisted again for the second drive, requiring drive A: to be placed in the middle connector.

This appears to be to meet a particular case design, because other than that, it's rather

bizarre to say the least.

Hi Everyone ! It's Kristen :)

and today we are going to be opening and unboxing the

Lancome and Influenster Vox Box

and I am very excited to get this box

I have never tried a Lancome product before

so this will be my first time

Let me go ahead and open it up and show you what's inside

So, you open it up and the Vox Box looks like this

it came with four Lancome Products

first we have the Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear Makeup Stick

then we have the Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear , this is a concealer

Next we have the Lancome Click and Glow

this is a highlighter kind of blush

Next we have Lancome metal effect lip lacquer, which is a lipgloss

Now I'm going to show you what they look like going on

and the finished look

and then I will tell you my review at the end

So we are going to start out using the concealer

and I'm showing you a few of my larger bumps

that we are hoping to conceal with this concealer

and I'm mostly putting it on my trouble areas

and covering it with a makeup stick later on

I'm mostly putting it under my eyes

to hide any bags or darkness

I have a lot of acne at the moment so I'm hoping this covers well

also putting a little bit on my eyes as a primer

this concealer really wants to stay in place

and it's a very thick consistency

so I'm just smoothing it out with my fingers

I think it covers the bumps pretty well

but there's only so much you can do for the larger bumps

but for the smaller bumps the concealer is really helping

Now, I am using the makeup stick

and using it all over

sort of the same places , but mostly in the places

that don't have makeup on them

and I'm just going to smooth these together

to complete the whole face

I also feel like using your fingers for this foundation

also works better than a beauty blender or sponge

or even a brush

but you could

Next, I just put on a little bit of powder

to complete the foundation look

and now we are going to go in with the Lancome Click and Glow

we are just going to click it a few times

and put it on the tops of my cheek bones

for a highlighted look

you could also put this in your cupids bow

and on the tip of your nose

I put it mostly on my cheeks

now we are just putting on lipgloss

I think it kind of takes a couple of swipes

because it is such a thick formula

and this is the complete look

just using all the products that we got in this Vox Box

so now I'm going to let you know what I feel about each product

first, we are going to go over the Lancome Teint Idole Camouflage concealer

and I absolutely love this concealer

it's one of the nicest concealers I have ever used

as you can see in the demonstration or tutorial

it covers really really well

it is very thick consistency

and it goes on and stays put

like you can not move it once you put it on and pat it in

I decided to use my fingers because I feel like

a lot of concealers go on better just using your hands

they kind of warm up the product

I tried using it with a beauty blender before hand

and it didn't move very much

but I think using your fingers in this case

would be the best option

I had to tell Influenster about what my color was

because they couldn't actually see me

so, I told them the lightest shade

and it ended up working very well for me

so this is in Ivoire or Beige Porcelain

it had two on there

that is the color that I am currently using

This concealer is $31 which I think is a good price for a high end concealer

like this one

Next we are goineaMg to go over the Teint Idole Ultra Makeup Stick

and this is really really creamy and really really nice

it goes over the stick really well

and I think it works really well with the concealer

after using both of those most of my skin looks flawless

other than like the larger bumps

which there's not much you can do for that

even with high end products you are still going to see the bumps there

like even from far away like you can't even see the big bump here

I have to go in really close and you have to be kinda looking for it

but from far away just talking to someone you won't be able to see it

I don't know if it's the concealer or foundation

but I had to put powder over it because

if I touch my face , and even now, like it feels sticky

they are both thick formulas , they like I said with the concealer

stays put and I think that's kinda what makes it stay put

it has like a gluely consistency

but not like heavy

like you can feel it on your face

it doesn't feel very very thick, it feels pretty normal

but the consistency is very thick

and so I put powder over that

but it is still kinda has a dewy look to it

this makeup stick is $42

which is a little expensive

but I do think that it is worth it

but buying both together, both the concealer and the foundation

may be a little bit pricey

Next the Lancome Click and Glow

little highlighter blush, it's called a highlighting fluid

it's mostly like a blush highlighter

in one into like a fluid form

I really like the color on my skin it makes it looks very

natural and very glowy

it's not overly dramatic highlight or the color

you may need to put a little more blush if you like blushed look

and then put this over it

but I think this is good for a natural look

and the concept of it is very cool

it's got like a little pad here

and you use the clicker at the bottom to get the fluid to come out

and lastly we have the lipgloss

I think this is a very pretty color

it's got a metallic sheen to it and changes color in the light

the click and glow highlighter is $23 which is pretty good for a highlighter in my opinion

it's a very thick lipgloss but it doesn't feel like a lot of lipglosses do

when you can't move your lips because you can feel it gluing your lips together

it is actually very nice and stays very well put

and it look very glossy

but I really like the consistancy of it and think it looks very good

and I think it is a very pretty color and like the metallicness to it

so if you guys like lipglossI really like this one

this lipstick is $22 it is kinda pricey

for the size for this particular lipgloss

but if you are someone who likes lipgloss with this metallic effect

it may be worth it to you

it is a little expensive compared to other lipglosses at this size

overall these products really held up to my expectations

of Lancome and it being a high quality product

my favorite product in this Vox Box is the Camouflage concealer

I think it works super super well

but I really liked every single product they gave us

I think this all of these are great for a kind of

glowy natural look

you can use it with putting your eye makeup on

and it could be more of a natural or you can use it with you makeup

and make it a whole look
