Home Remedies for Menstrual Cramps - Home remedies for period cramps - Duration: 5:08.
Menstruation is a natural part of a woman's life, but painful menstrual cramps are a very
annoying problem for many.
While menstrual cramps are rarely a cause for concern, if severe they can disrupt regular
activities.
Menstrual cramps are due to a hormone-like substance called prostaglandin that causes
the uterine muscles to contract during menstruation.
Some simple and natural home remedies can be equally effective and relieve symptoms
faster, or even prevent cramps.
Here are the top 7 home remedies for menstrual cramps.
1.
Heat.
Applying heat on the lower abdomen is the easiest way to control menstrual cramps.
Heat helps relax the contracting muscles in the uterus.
Place a heating pad over the lower part of your abdomen and lower back.
You can even use a regular plastic bottle filled with hot water.
Apply the heat until you feel more comfortable.
Alternatively, soak a towel in water, wring out the excess water and then heat it in the
microwave for one minute.
Place it on the lower abdomen until the towel cools.
Repeat every few minutes until the pain is gone.
Even taking a hot shower may relieve pain and make you feel more relaxed.
2.
Basil.
Basil is another very effective herb for reducing menstrual pain and cramps.
The caffeic acid present in basil has analgesic, or pain-killing properties.
Add one tablespoon of basil leaves to one cup of boiling water.
Cover tightly and allow it to cool.
Drink this every few hours to ease cramps.
Alternatively, crush a handful of basil leaves to extract the juice.
Add two teaspoons of the juice to one cup of warm water.
Drink this three times daily while having pain.
You can also add fresh basil leaves to your food.
3.
Cinnamon.
Cinnamon has antispasmodic, anticlotting and anti-inflammatory properties that can relieve
menstrual pain.
Plus, cinnamon is an excellent source of dietary fiber, calcium, iron and manganese.
Make cinnamon tea by stirring one-fourth teaspoon of cinnamon powder into a cup of hot water.
Let it sit for up to five minutes, add a little honey and then sip it slowly.
Drink two to three cups of cinnamon tea one to two days before your period starts to prevent
cramps.
Add one-half teaspoon of cinnamon powder and one tablespoon of honey to a glass of warm
water.
Drink it three times during the first day of your period to relieve pain.
4.
Ginger.
Ginger is a wonder herb that can effectively ease menstrual cramps.
This herb plays a key role in lowering the levels of the pain-causing prostaglandins.
It also helps fight fatigue associated with premenstrual syndrome and can make irregular
periods regular.
Grate a small piece of ginger and boil it in a cup of water for five minutes.
Strain it and add a little honey and lemon juice.
Drink this tea three times a day during your menstrual cycle.
You can also add ginger in your food while cooking or suck on some ginger candies.
5.
Chamomile Tea.
Chamomile tea has anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties that help relax the uterus and
ease the spasmodic contractions that cause pain during menstruation.
Bring one cup of water to a boil.
Pour it into a cup containing a chamomile tea bag.
Cover and let it steep for 10 to 15 minutes.
Squeeze out the tea bag and add some lemon juice or honey as desired.
Drink at least two cups of chamomile tea a day during the week before your period.
6.
Fennel.
The antispasmodic, phytoestrogenic and anti-inflammatory properties of fennel can help relax the muscles
in the uterus, which in turn relieves cramping and discomfort.
Add one teaspoon of fennel seeds to a cup of boiling water.
Simmer the mixture on low heat for five minutes.
Remove from heat and strain the tea.
Add one teaspoon of honey and mix well.
Drink this herbal tea two times daily beginning three days before the expected start date
of your cycle.
Continue drinking it as needed for pain.
Drink it hot for best results.
7.
Blackstrap Molasses.
Another time-tested remedy for menstrual cramps is blackstrap molasses.
Being rich in calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium, manganese, vitamin B6 and selenium, blackstrap
molasses helps reduce blood clots and soothe the muscles of the uterine walls.
This in turn lessens cramps during menstruation.
Add one to two teaspoons of blackstrap molasses to a cup of warm milk.
Drink it as soon as you start having cramps and continue as long as needed.

The 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics is now less than a year away, and the International
Olympics Committee president has sent out official invitations to the Games.
Test events are already underway in the eastern city of Gangneung, where the majority of the
ice-based events will be held.
Lee Unshin has the details.
This time next year,... we'll be watching some of the early events in the 2018 PyeongChang
Winter Olympics that will be hosted in Korea's Gangwon-do Province.
To mark the occasion of the one-year countdown that started this week,... the president of
the International Olympic Committee sent a message thanking the Korean government and
the business community for their support... and officially inviting the 206 National Olympic
Committees and their winter sports athletes to the Games.
"Dear Olympic friends, one year from now, you will make history.
... The Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 will open up new horizons.
Pyeongchang will transform into a hub for Asian winter sports."
Meanwhile, speed skaters from around the world gathered in Gangneung on Thursday for the
start of the World Single Distance Speed Skating Championships.
At the competition, which is also a test event for the Olympics, the athletes seemed quite
pleased with the new venue, Gangneung Oval.
"It's really, really smooth and fast.
I think everyone got personal bests today, or a lot of people did, for sure."
In fact, seven of the 20 skaters have already broken their personal records.
Among them is Korea's Kim Bo-reum, who finished sixth.
She also broke the Korean national record with a time of 4 minutes, 3-point-8-5 seconds.
"I prepared myself for the test event as if it were the actual Olympics.
I hope I excel, but I will accept any results as long as they reflect the hard work I put
into it."
The competition will continue through Sunday with nearly 200 speed skaters from 24 countries.

Hey folks!
I have some breaking Infinity Train news, directly from friend-of-the-show, Owen Dennis!
And since so many have tuned in for my breakdown of the pilot and my call to arms to get it
greenlit, I thought it was only appropriate to grab a microphone and help out by slapping
together a signal boost.
For those who may have missed the news, Cartoon Network will be airing the Infinity Train
pilot for the first time on broadcast TV!
The premiere will be this Saturday, February 11th at 6am.
Granted, it's not the most convenient time slot - but the fact that it has squeezed into
Cartoon Network's schedule is very important.
Likely the reason they're giving the Infinity Train pilot a chance is directly because of
the million-plus views and comments it has on Cartoon Network's YouTube video, the
hundreds of viral analysis and opinion videos on YouTube, and the diligent activism of viewers
like you - who took the extra steps of writing emails, letters, and postcards to Cartoon
Network on behalf of Infinity Train!
You should all be very proud!
This is a huge win!
So here comes the important news.
This isn't a greenlight.
Owen was even quick to clarify on Twitter that this is just the premier of the pilot.
However, this is Cartoon Network officially testing the waters.
Yes, it's airing in a weird part of their schedule, but that's by design.
It's a test for fans to see if they'll tune in.
And that's what we have to do.
So how can you help Infinity Train get that greenlight, so Owen Dennis can start work
on a full series?
