- In the name of the Father, and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.
- [Ladies] Amen.
- Welcome to the Catholic TV Mass.
My name is Harry, Fr. Harry,
priest of the archdiocese of San Francisco.
And with me are Allanah Beh and Kathy Atkinson
who used to be the boss here
at the Holy Cross Cemetery
where we are bringing you this mass.
We're in the All Saints Chapel.
Any of you have been here before for a service,
you will recognize it.
We're grateful the Holy Cross Cemetery
for allowing us to use this space to bring you the TV Mass.
So we offer the mass for you and your intentions
and for the many personal notes that you have sent
asking us to pray for you.
We begin by asking God's good grace of forgiveness.
Lord, have mercy.
- Lord, have mercy.
- Christ, have mercy.
- Christ, have mercy.
- Lord, have mercy.
- Lord, have mercy.
- May almighty God have mercy on us,
forgive us our sins,
and bring us to everlasting life.
- [Ladies] Amen.
- Glory to God in the highest.
- [All] And on earth peace to people of goodwill.
We praise you, we bless you,
we adore you, we glorify you,
we give you thanks for your great glory,
Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.
Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son,
Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father,
you take away the sins of the world,
have mercy on us;
you take away the sins of the world,
receive our prayer;
you are seated at the right hand of the Father,
have mercy on us.
For you alone are the Holy One,
you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ,
with the Holy Spirit,
in the glory of God the Father.
Amen.
- Let us pray.
O God who teach us that you abide in hearts
that are just and true.
Grant that we may be so fashioned by your grace
as to become a dwelling pleasing to you.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God forever and ever.
- [Ladies] Amen.
- A reading from the book of Sirach.
"If you choose you can keep the commandments,
"they will save you;
"if you trust in God, you too shall live;
"He has set before you fire and water;
"to whichever you choose, stretch forth your hand.
"Before man are life and death, good and evil,
"whichever he chooses shall be given to him.
"Immense is the wisdom of the Lord;
"he is mighty in power, and all-seeing.
"The eyes of God are upon those who fear him;
"he understands man's every deed.
"No one does he command to act unjustly,
"to none does he give the license to sin."
The Word of the Lord.
- [All] Thanks be to God.
- Blessed are they who follow the Law of the Lord.
- Blessed are they who follow the Law of the Lord.
- Blessed are they whose way is blameless,
who walk in the Law of the Lord.
Blessed are they who observe His decrees,
who seek Him with all their heart.
- Blessed are they that follow the Law of the Lord.
- You have commanded that your precepts be diligently kept,
oh that I might be firm in the ways
of keeping your statutes.
- Blessed are they that follow the Law of the Lord.
- Be good to your servant that I may live
and keep your words.
Open my eyes that I may consider the wonders of your Law.
- Blessed are they that follow the Law of the Lord.
- Instruct me O Lord in the way of your statutes
that I may exactly observe them.
Give me discernment that I may observe your Law
and keep it within my heart.
- Blessed are they that follow the Law of the Lord.
- A reading from the first letter of St. Paul
to the Corinthians.
"Brothers and sisters: We speak a wisdom
"to those who are mature, not a wisdom of this age,
"nor of the rulers of this age who are passing away.
"Rather, we speak God's wisdom, mysterious, hidden,
"which God predetermined before the ages for our glory,
"and which none of the rulers of this age knew;
"for if they had known it, they would not have crucified
"the Lord of glory.
"But as it is written: 'What eye has not seen,
"'and ear has not heard, and what has not entered
"'into the human heart, what God has prepared
"'for those who love him,'
"this God has revealed to us through the Spirit.
"For the Spirit scrutinizes everything,
"even the depths of God."

- [Ladies] And with your Spirit.
- A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew.
- Glory to you, O Lord!
- If you are following the readings at home
in your missalettes,
be aware that this is the shorter version
of the longer gospel today.
Of course, if you have your missalettes
you can take your time and read the longer version.
"Jesus said to his disciples: "I tell you
"'unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes
"'and the and Pharisees,
"'you will not enter the Kingdom of heaven."
"You have heard it said
"that you shall not kill;
"and whoever kills will be liable to judgment.
"But I say to you, whoever is angry with his brother
"will be liable to judgment,
"you've heard it said that you shall not commit adultery
"but I say to you, everyone who looks at a woman with lust
"has already committed adultery in their heart.
"Again, you have heard it said that your ancestors
"do not take a false oath, but make good to the Lord
"all that you vow.
"But I say to you, do not swear at all.
"Lest your 'Yes' mean 'Yes,'
""Let your 'Yes' mean 'Yes,'
"and your 'No' mean 'No.'
"Anything more is from the evil one."
The Gospel of the Lord.
- Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
- Ticking time bombs.
There are many people who are called
ticking time bombs.
I remember reading about Tim McVeigh who was a very
ordinary person but someone said that he had so much
pent up inside him.
And after the Davidi Branch
were attacked and so many of them killed,
it just set him, McVeigh off.
And he ended up killing more than a hundred people.
How would acts begin with inward notions?
And notions that are more than ideas as notions
but emotions coming from the movement of the human being.
And anger leads to
generally a bad heart.
And we all know angry people and we know people
who will get angry fast and who forget and our loving
but occasionally they just lose their temper.
I read or I saw on National Geographic
which is one of my favorite channels,
a rattlesnake if it's cornered,
if you corner a rattlesnake it will bite itself
rather than go out after someone else when
it doesn't see that there's any way out.
So sometimes we lose our selves in our emotion
and we get angry and it's like we're biting ourselves.
We're looking bad in front of everybody else
and especially ourselves.
There are so few occasions when you can really be angry
where it's justified
and where you could show the emotion of anger
which is a strong feeling in all of us
as Jesus showed when He drove the people from the temple
who had turned it in to a marketplace.
Forest Gump was a famous movie a long time ago
but it has some great lines in it.
Forset Gump was listening to the young lady in there,
I forget her name.
But he was kind of sweet on her and she liked him
and she was telling him about how she was abused as a child
at her father.
Jenny was her name, Jenny.
And after she went by with rocks
and pelted her father's home,
and she was telling Forest that he said,
well you know, sometimes there just aren't enough rocks.
You know we have these things in our heart
and inside us and there just aren't enough rocks
to get rid of everything.
So rather than have this little dark cloud
follow you around, put on a halo.
Something bright above your head.
You don't need to be followed around by a dark cloud.
As someone said let go
and let God.
I think it was one of the archery people
always going for the target,
just let go and let God handle what you can't do.
The biggest burden of anger
is carried by the angry person.
It just is a heavy load that need not be carried
especially if you wanna enjoy life.
Let us pray.
- That each of us may dare to let go and let God.
Lord in your mercy.
- Hear our prayer.
- For all who strive to observe and teach
the love of the Lord.
Lord, hear our prayer.
- Lord, hear our prayer.
- For all who ardently search for wisdom and truth.
Lord, hear our prayer.
- Lord, hear our prayer.
- And for all in our faith community,
especially those around this TV table
as we celebrate together the grace of God.
Lord, in your mercy.
- Hear our prayer.
- Almighty God we thank you for the opportunity
to place our intentions before you,
answer them if they be according to your will
through Christ our Lord.
- [Ladies] Amen.
- Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation.
Through your goodness we have this bread to offer,
which earth has given, human hands have made.
It will become for us the bread of life.
- Blessed be God for ever.
- By the mingling of this water and wine
we come to share in your divinity who humbles yourself
to share in our humanity.
Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation.
Through your goodness we have this wine to offer,
fruit of the vine, the work of human hands.
It will become our spiritual drink.
- Blessed be God for ever.
- Humbly Lord we ask you to accept these gifts
we offer you in sacrifice.
Wash me from my iniquity, cleanse me from my sin.
Pray, brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours
may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father.
- May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands,
for the praise and glory of his name,
for our good, and the good of all his holy Church.
- May this oblation O Lord we pray cleanse and renew us
and may it become for those who do your will
the source of internal reward.
Through Christ our Lord.
- [Ladies] Amen.
- The Lord be with you.
- [Ladies] And with your spirit.
- Lift up your hearts.
- We lift them up to the Lord.
- Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God.
- [Ladies] It is right and just.
- It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God.
In love you create, in justice you condemn
but in mercy you redeem
and so we join our voices with the many
who've gone before us in praise of your name
as we say together:
- [All] Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
- You are indeed Holy, O Lord,
the fount of all holiness.
Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray,
by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall,
so that they may become for us
the Body and the Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
At the time he was betrayed
and entered willingly into his Passion,
he took bread, giving thanks, broke it,
gave it to his disciples, and said:
Take this all of you, and eat of it,
for this is my body which will be given up for you.
(bell rings)
In a similar way, when supper was ended,
he took the chalice
and, once more giving thanks,
gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take this all of you, and drink from it,
for this is the chalice of my blood,
the blood of the new and eternal covenant
which will be poured out for you and for all
so that sins may be forgiven.
Do this in memory of me.
(bell rings)
The mystery of faith.
- When we eat this Bread and drink this Cup,
we proclaim your Death, O Lord,
until you come again.
- Therefore, as we celebrate
the memorial of his Death and Resurrection,
we offer you, Lord,
the Bread of life and the Chalice of salvation,
giving thanks that you have held us worthy
to be in your presence and minister to you.
Humbly we pray
that, partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ,
we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
Remember, Lord, your Church,
spread throughout the world,
bring her to the fullness of charity,
together with Francis our Pope
the bishop of your diocese,
and the many others who serve you.
Remember also our brothers and sisters
who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection,
especially those who have been members of our TV family
welcome them into the light of your face.
Have mercy on us all, we pray,
that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,
blessed Joseph, her husband, the blessed Apostles,
and all the Saints who have pleased you throughout the ages,
we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life,
and may praise and glorify you
through your Son, Jesus Christ.
Through him, and with him, and in him,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honor is yours,
for ever and ever.
- [Ladies] Amen.
- At the savior's command and farmed by divine teaching
we dare to say:
- Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come; thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
- Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil,
graciously grant peace in our days,
that, by the help of your mercy,
we may be always free from sin
and safe from all distress,
as we await the blessed hope
and the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
- For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours,
now and forever.
- Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your apostles peace:
my peace I leave you, my peace I give you.
Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church,
and grant us the peace and unity of your kingdom
where you live for ever and ever.
- [Ladies] Amen.
- May the peace of the Lord be with you always.
- And with your spirit.
- This is a good time for us to share that sign of peace.
So if you're in prison or incarcerated in a cell by yourself

Recently, one of our fellow parishioners
gave me this address to receive a current free missal.
As a prisoner it is very hard to
gather the minimal information being a Catholic
much less the daily observances.
I thank you in advance for your kindness
and any thoughts you can give to my request.
One of the
larger number of missalettes that we send out free
from the Catholic TV Mass are those we send to
people who are incarcerated because it's very hard
as this individual says to get any kind of information
that they need.
Now, I don't have my glasses on today but I'll try my best.
I missed your mass last week,
for over seven years I've watched as I'm a shut in.
You bring great joy to my life.
Please send me a missal for this coming year.
Well, we're already in,
where are we, we're in February.
So there's still some left if you wanna follow the mass,
we do have the missalettes left.
Thank you for the TV Mass.
Please accept this gift.
I am praying that God will help me
to send more, more money in the future.
I hope so too.
God bless you. (laughs)
We're always grateful for your gifts
and the support that you can give us.
There is on the screen, it's the Catholic TV Mass
1 Peter Yorke Way.

God bless you.
