Youtube daily report Feb 22 2017

A conference was held in Costa Rica

from 19 to 21 October 2016

on how to confront the privatisation and commercialisation of education.

With the help of participating representatives

from 16 teachers' unions across Latin America,

the meeting put into context

both the region's situation at large and each country's particular set of circumstances,

with a view to taking action in defence of public education as a social right.

Education International's Latin America Regional Office,

worked together with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES) to organise the conference,

which was attended by representatives from a total of 16 teachers' unions

from 11 different countries in the region.

To Combertty Rodriguez

Chief Regional Coordinator of Education International's Latin America Regional Office,

it is crucial that national organisations commit to a global campaign

against Privatisation and Commercialisation of Public Education

Sandra Cartín, Project Coordinator at the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES),

expressed the concern that new trade agreements may adversely affect the education system.

Elbia Pereira, a member of Education International's Latin America Regional Committee,

noted the importance of raising awareness within each of our organisations

in order to ensure the topic remains relevant in discussion.

The conference also welcomed the participation of Ángelo Gavrielatos,

Project Director of EI Global Response to the Privatisation and Commercialisation in and of Education

and Nicolás Richards, Senior Coordinator of EI Solidarity and Development Unit.

Gavrielatos and Richards gave a presentation on the global strategy

At the end of the presentation,

Richards concluded that we must make a distinction between corporations that are merely seeking financial profit,

and those that have directly contributed to the growth of privatisation.

In the Education International

We are mounting a global response

against the growing commercialization and privatization of education

because it is detrimental to the right of every child, every student

To quality education.

Quality, free, public education.

Gavrielatos stressed the importance of mobilising our other allies

not just those belonging to unions.

He noted that the best alliances are nationwide.

It is possible Internationally,

but it is more important nationally

to develop national campaigns.

"If public opinion is on our side, we can win

otherwise it is very difficult. "

A work session took place on the afternoon of October 19th,

with attendees responding to three question prompts.

The work session was preceded by a presentation by Juan Arancibia,

a researcher from Education International's Latin America Regional Office,

who outlined the concepts and definitions that would be used throughout the session.

The day of 20 October saw the participation of Antoni Verger

a Spanish researcher who is currently studying the level and scope of privatisation and commercialisation

of the educational system in Latin America.

For Ángelo Gavrielatos, Verger's research is an important part of the project and its cornerstones.

Next on the schedule was a presentation on relevant advancements in research made by Brazil and Argentina.

The afternoon of 20 October was completely devoted to developing action plans for each country.

The morning of the 21st was set aside for presenting each country's action plans

and hearing the rest of the group's observations and feedback.

Upon concluding the conference, the participants expressed their satisfaction

at having successfully completed three days' worth of intense and productive work.

While it is clear that this is only the first step,

it was at the very least a firm step in the direction of a growing resistance

against the privatisation and commercialisation of education.

Do you have any idea who might have been?

I don´t know, but I don´t like it. The last time they dedicated to entertain Superheroes happened what happened

What are you doing!

Don´t you know who it is? He´s who caused the last explosion in Madrid

It was an accident! I had nothing to do. They paid me to entertain Captain America and Spiderman, but I didn´t know

And that´s having nothing to do with it?

Do you think I don´t regret it? Every day I think about the lost lives, and now I try to help

And you think that will help you to redeem yourself?

At least I will try

Felicity, we need to find the responsible

I've already done it. The thieves wore clown masks, and the only one who used them was the Joker

We'll catch him

Okey

Besides, this seems a job for Robin, he knows better the Joker

There is a problem, Robin is missing

Send Nightwing then, and call Batman to see if he knows anything about him

And what do I do?

At the moment you can go home, we'll call you

Looks like I have to go through a casting

Ma'am, are you all right?

Weren´t you supossed to rescue me?

Well well... Looks like baby bats have woken up

Too bad that Daddy is not here to watch it.

Were you the one that was distracting us?

Basically, and you have fallen like idiots

Go to hell

Bla bla bla, keep talking and you will see

Let's go to the important thing. Where is our friend Batsy?

Scientists' Crazy Plan To Refreeze The Arctic - Duration: 4:26.

Scientists may have just figured out how to roll back climate change, the only catch?

It could cost as much as 5 trillion dollars and use more steel than the United States

produces in a year.

Hey there freezing fans, Jules here for Dnews!

Climate change is very real, and one of its biggest victims is Arctic sea ice.

Since the 1980s, the amount of ice has, on average, dropped by more than 13 percent each

decade.

But fear not!

Because according to a paper just published in the journal, Earth's Future, scientists

may have an ingenious solution.

It involves ten million pumps.

The plan is to "refreeze" ten percent of the arctic ice cap by using giant wind-powered

pumps to cover the existing caps with salty seawater..

When the seawater is sprayed on top of frozen ice and surrounded by the -40 degree celcius

air, it freezes into new ice.

According to the paper, it would take 10 million wind-powered pumps, outputting roughly 16.5

pounds of water per second, to add 3 feet of ice over ten percent of the Arctic Ocean.

For every 4 feet of water pumped onto the surface, the ice will become roughly 3 feet

thicker, a plan that, if it works, will postpone the loss of the ice caps by about 17 years

for every year they do this.

As the researchers say, quote "Implementation over the entire Arctic in the early 2030s

… would reset the clock to the present day."

That's great news because at the current rate, scientists estimate the polar ice caps

will be entirely gone by 2030.

Of course, the plan isn't easy, or economical.

Each wind turbine used to power the pump will need to be roughly 19 feet across, and use

roughly 22,000 pounds of steel.

The paper also states that ten million pumps would only really cover ten percent of the

Arctic Ocean's roughly 4 million square mile size; to cover the entire area would

take 100 million pumps, and roughly 100 million tons of steel each year.

The US alone currently produces about 80 to 90 million tons of steel a year, so covering

just 10 percent of the Arctic ice would use around 13 percent of U.S. steel production.

The total cost would be 50 billion dollars per year, or 500 billion over 10 years -- and

again, that's if you only cover 10 percent of the Arctic.

To cover the whole thing would be a whopping 5 trillion dollars.

But not all efforts to save the Arctic ice caps are so costly.

Another leading solution is called solar-radiation management, where sunlight is reflected away

from the ice, instead of being absorbed by it, leading to slower melting.

One method of doing this is to inject reflective aerosol particles, particularly chemicals

like sulfates, into the stratosphere.

In nature, volcanic eruptions scatter sulfate particles high into the air as part of an

ash cloud, and it has been observed that these particles reflect solar radiation back into

space and lead to cooling of the earth below it.

So if we could do this artificially, it could have the same effect.

In fact, a 2008 study found that if we could decrease the sunlight reaching the Arctic

area by about 21%, it would allow the ice to remain even if the amount of CO2 in the

air doubled.

But this solution leads to many other environmental concerns, such degradation of the ozone, which

sulfates are known to do.

It could also lead to a warming of the stratosphere, as the reflective particles would absorb some

of the heat and disperse it in the surrounding atmospheric air.

Both of these could ultimately lead to a worsening of climate change conditions.

And the aerosol in itself is air pollution, of the kind that leads to asthma and other

health problems.

Ultimately, there is no simple, elegant solution.

The paper itself admits that technology alone won't solve our problems.

The world is still warming, the ice caps are melting, and the sea levels are rising.

Without the ice caps reflecting light away from earth, the ocean will absorb even more

solar radiation and heat, which could influence global warming.

Worse yet, the more ice is melted in the Arctic, the more methane, a greenhouse gas, will be

released into the atmosphere.

Currently that methane is trapped under the permafrost, and as that thaws, it could speed

up the effects of global warming.

While setting up 100 million pumps, or shooting sulfates into the sky may sound crazy, those

may not be as crazy as the alternatives.

Clean Bulking: Meal Prep For The Week - Duration: 9:18.

Yo, what's going on guys?

Troy Adashun, Weight Gain Network.

And today I'm going to show you how brain-dead simple it is to do a meal plan for the entire

week in about an hour in your kitchen.

I'm going to make the process so easy you're going to make all kinds of gains, hit around

3 to 4,000 calories effortlessly every single day.

So I want to show you how it is done.

So what I've done here is I have my kitchen kind of compartmentalized I guess you would

say.

I have my protein section right over here, so I've got a couple pounds of grass-fed beef,

some salmon already cooked, some chicken, some eggs, some sardines.

All kinds of protein up in here.

I'm going to kind of walk you through how I cook it efficiently.

Then over here I have all my carbohydrates.

So we've got some potatoes already made.

I have a rice cooker, so it's really easy to make rice throughout the week, so I made

about two or three cups of rice right here.

I've got some pineapple cut up.

I've got my oatmeal, my brown rice cakes.

Here I've got all my supplements I'm going to walk you through.

And right over here we've got the simple and easy healthy fats that are going to boost

my testosterone.

I guess the biggest pain in the ass is cooking all of this protein.

So what I do here is step one, get a couple pounds of salmon and I bake it in the oven.

Salmon goes really quick.

It only takes about 20 - 25 minutes.

I actually bought this at Whole Foods, so they were nice enough to make it for free.

These are only like 6 dollars and 49 cents each at Whole Foods.

I think 6 ounce really high-quality salmon.

Step one if you want to make the salmon in the oven.

And then step two I've got two pounds here of 95 percent grass-fed beef.

And I cooked it with two and a half tablespoons of liquid coconut oil.

Coconut oil is awesome for boosting your energy.

So when you go into the gym, going through those killer workouts, you want your energy

levels to be sky-high, definitely recommend some coconut oil.

I also occasionally will use olive oil, but I'm switching to coconut oil just because

of the energy boosting benefits.

So what I do here is I just basically - I do a little black pepper, I do a little garlic

powder and I do a little pink seas salt and I just make this huge kind of protein scramble

here.

So two pounds of grass-fed beef is going to give me about 200 grams of protein and about

35 - 40 grams of fat, but the fat in grass-fed beef has a lot of vitamins in it.

It's got omega-three fatty acids.

It helps to boost your testosterone.

By the way, these two types of protein right here - good-quality salmon, grass-fed beef

I would rate probably one and two as far as high-quality protein that help you build muscle

really fast.

Over here we have two and a half to three pounds of chicken.

So after the salmon is done baking, which only takes about 20 minutes, you're going

to throw the chicken in the oven.

Now the chicken will bake for about 40 to 45 minutes.

So in about an hour's time we have two pounds of salmon, two pounds of grass-fed beef, and

two and a half pounds of chicken, so that is six and a half pounds of cooked protein

in about an hour.

All really high quality.

And then here is the wild card, man.

We've got wild-sardines.

They actually don't taste that bad.

I bought these a while ago.

I haven't been eating them.

But even in Tim Ferriss's new book, Tools of Titans, he talks about wild sardines, how

they're super high in omega-three.

Actually one of the best protein sources in the entire world.

This little container here has six grams of fat, but really rich in omega-three fatty

acids.

About 30 grams of protein.

So once in a while I'll cook these up in a little bit of olive oil or coconut oil, so

just some simple, quick, cheap protein.

Then of course we've got the eggs over here.

So I've got some organic eggs.

This is cheap protein, like 4 dollars and 50 cents for a dozen organic eggs.

So when I do the grass-fed - I'll cook all this grass-fed beef and use it for two different

reasons.

Sometimes in the morning I'll take about a quarter cup scoop of it, which is about 25

grams of protein.

I'll crack three to four eggs over it, just to make a really high protein omelet to start

my day.

Then also I'll combine it over here with one of my carbohydrate sources.

By the way, while all this is going on, you can cook some carbohydrates in the process.

So if you guys have a rice cooker, you can cook up to like five or six cups of rice at

the same time while all this protein is cooking.

Pineapple is amazing for building muscle.

Really good for protein digestion.

So highly recommend you cut up some pineapple and just kind of munch on this throughout

the week.

Have it with all your high-protein meals.

This also really helps me with my sweet tooth.

So pineapple - really sweet, really good for you.

Then for on-the-go, nice and efficient, we've got the brown rice cakes here.

And I'm going to kind of walk you through a couple of my favorite high-calorie snacks

too.

I'm going to transition over here to the healthy fats.

So fats should be really easy to get throughout the week.

So olive oil and coconut oil - obviously whenever I'm cooking like vegetables or protein I use

the coconut oil or olive oil and then here's another one you guys probably aren't familiar

with - we've got Brazil nuts.

So a couple of these every single day - really good for your testosterone.

They've got a lot of zinc, selenium, magnesium - super healthy for you.

So I'll have a couple like Brazil nuts.

They're really good at night.

Then chia seeds and hemp seeds, you can put this on everything guys.

It's high in protein, high in omega three fatty acids - super efficient way to get in

more calories throughout the day.

Then of course we've got the peanut butter and almond butter.

So another high-calorie snack I'll do is I'll just throw some of this on some celery, which

you can kind of put in these meal-prep containers.

Sprinkle some chia seeds and hemp seeds on top of it, you've got a really easy, high

calorie snack right there.

Then also the peanut butter and almond butter can go on top of the rice cakes for another

really good high-calorie snack.

So for my carbohydrates throughout the week, I usually stick with potatoes, which I can

bake in the oven or make on the frying pan at the same time as the beef or I'll simply

go with some cooked brown rice.

Of course I've got my fruit.

Then also you can do smoothies, so incorporating things like blueberries and bananas, any type

of fruit in any of the mass-building smoothies doesn't really require much effort.

Then I've been kind of on a chocolate coconut water kick, so I'll have this post-workout

really good.

I actually just made a mass building shake with it.

Then over here we've got the efficient supplements.

So kind of show you what I'm taking right now.

Milk thistle is actually good for your liver.

It helps digestion as well.

I've got branched-chain amino acids sometimes.

If I ever do intermittent fasting, I'll take some BCAA's.

I've got my whey protein.

This was like 13 bucks at Whole Foods.

I was out of protein, so I just snatched this up.

Then the supplements that you guys are probably most interested in.

I take ZMA at night for recovery.

I'll get to the pre-workout last.

Then this is so good, especially if you guys lift really heavy - collagen - hydrolyzed

collagen - grass-fed collagen at that.

I got this on Amazon.com for like 22 bucks.

This is amazing for your joints, so if you're squatting, you're deadlifting, you're benching

really heavy, start getting that shoulder pain, start getting back pain, knee pain,

definitely want some joint support, so this is really good just for lubricating your joints

and keeping those ligaments, tendons, everything really healthy to prevent injury.

Highly recommend you guys pick this up.

One of my top five favorite supplements.

Then pre-workout, I actually got a few free samples of this and I really liked it.

Pretty good energy profile.

Doesn't have a lot of stimulants.

I'm trying to kind of wean off of the stimulants.

But the thing I really like about it is it's got a lot of branched-chain amino acids.

It's got 7.5 grams of BCAAs, 6 grams citrulline, 5 grams of creatine.

It's got the beta-alanine, lots of caffeine.

I like it.

It tastes really good, so I've been doing that for pre-workouts.

And that's pretty much in a nutshell guys.

So super easy to do a meal prep for the entire week.

Doesn't really take a whole lot of thought.

As long as you have a little system going.

So you should always have like four things happening at once, so you're cooking your

protein.

Protein - like if you have ground turkey or ground beef - you're cooking that in a frying

pan.

You can even throw a couple eggs on top too, good way to get in more healthy fats and proteins.

You always have something in the oven, whether it be the salmon, the chicken, the potatoes.

Always baking something.

You should have the rice cooker fired up.

And then when you're not actually doing anything, because some of this stuff you just set it

up and leave it as is, you can always prepare things like pineapple because kind of a pain

in the ass to cut pineapple every single time you want eat it.

So like cutting the pineapple, just kind of planning your plan of attack on the mass building.

Really easy to do guys.

Just takes a little bit of planning and you guys would make all kinds of gains.

It is so easy guys.

Get in that calorie surplus, get a system down.

Cook all this food at once and you guys will have an easy meal prep for the week.

I would love to hear your thoughts on any of the video.

If you have any questions on like supplements or any of these foods that I've chosen to

include in my mass-building diet let me know in the comments below.

Foundation Rant - How Brands Should Make Foundation - Duration: 7:27.

Hey, guys.

Welcome back.

Today, I've got a little bit of a rant video for you.

It's all on foundation.

Before I begin though, I wanted to remind you that you should sign up for my email list

because in addition to making YouTube videos, I blog.

I usually write about five to six blog posts a week.

If you sign up for my email list, you get an email once a day with whatever I've done

for that day whether it's a blog post or a video, and I usually will include giveaway

information, and tips, and stuff like that, so you should sign up.

This is really a how-I-wish-brands-would-make-foundation video because I feel like I have wasted so

much money on foundation over the years trying to find the perfect foundation, and there's

almost always something wrong with them.

I realized that there are about eight different things that brands could do that would make

it all better.

The number one thing that brands could do is have at least two different types of foundations.

Have a foundation for normal to oily skin and one for normal to dry skin.

You have two basic skin types that really need to be addressed.

You have people who are dry like me or people who are oily, which is how I used to be until

I went on my rosacea medication.

Now, I'm not going to lie, I used to think that I needed a full coverage foundation to

hide my rosacea or I wouldn't be happy.

What I've come to realize over like the past six months or so is that I can use a sheer

foundation if it's, one, a good match for my skin tone.

Two, if it's hydrating.

That's really what seems to matter to my skin type.

It's just unfortunate that there are very few hydrating foundations that are actually

a good match for my skin tone.

While, yes, I can mix a white mixer into any foundation to make it a better match for my

skin tone, sometimes, it gets frustrating having to mix my foundation every single day.

That's why I really appreciate when I find a foundation that's a good match for my skin

tone that I don't have to mix and that's actually moisturizing enough for my face.

So far, there is one product that I don't have to mix at all that's a perfect match

for my face, that's hydrating, that I love, and that's the Idun Minerals Foundation.

I'll put a link so you can check out my review of that foundation because I love it.

The number two thing that I wish brands would do is be consistent with their nomenclature

for naming as well as like the shades.

For example, if you're a .5 in like their sheer foundation, it'd be nice to also be

a .5 in say their medium coverage foundation.

I've noticed with some brands, that's just not the case, that there's a discrepancy between

the shades, so even if you're .5 in one, you may not be .5 in the other.

I would also like it if the names were not just always like food, or pottery, or anything

like that.

I don't really care if a brand uses cat names like Meow or if they use numbers like Urban

Decay.

I just want it to be consistent.

The number three thing that I wish brands would do when they make a foundation range

is to have helpful shade descriptions.

It is not helpful to me for them to have the name basically like "Cool Bisque" and

not have any shade description.

That's absolutely useless in my opinion.

Descriptions that I find useful would be, "Very fair with warm undertone," "Very

fair with cool undertone," "Very fair with neutral undertone," "Very fair with

olive undertone."

Stuff like that is so much more useful than "Light Bisque," "Light Ivory," "Cocoa."

On that note, I think foundations should have four different undertones.

You should have your cool, your warm, your neutral, and your olive because I feel like,

especially if you're olive, it's so hard to find foundations and nobody seems to acknowledge

that.

A lot of people seem to think that you can either get away with cool or warm, and that's

really not the way it works.

I do at least think that it's a little bit better whenever you see lines that gear their

foundations more towards being sheer and neutral because sheer and neutral seems to work with

a wider variety of skin tones, but it's not perfect for everyone.

Number four, and this is more just a general gripe.

I really wish that people would not be so obsessed with the MAC numbering system.

The MAC numbering system is not perfect.

It is not the be-all-end-all of makeup.

In fact, it's funny because I interviewed Vic Casale, the guy who was … the person

who developed the numbering system for MAC.

He also developed the numbering system for Cover FX, and he's like, "Yeah.

When I went to Cover FX, I had the chance to remake it correctly," because he feels

like the NW and NC is too confusing for people, which I agree.

The way Cover FX does it is they have N for neutral, P for cool, and G for warm.

That's far less confusing than NW and NC, so I wish people would get over their obsession

with it.

Number five.

When brands are making concealers to go along with their foundation lines, please, for the

love of God, do not make your lightest concealer darker than your lightest foundation.

What do you expect your lightest foundation wearer to do for a concealer if you do not

have a concealer that is lighter than that foundation?

They're not going to be able to wear your concealer.

It's just crazy.

I'm looking at you, Too Faced.

You did this with your Born This Way foundation line.

Your lightest concealer is darker than your lightest foundation, Snow.

It makes no sense.

Number six, brands that need to acknowledge all global shades of beauty.

What do I mean by that?

I mean, the people are not just 50 shades of beige.

I mean that you have people that are fair-skinned.

You have people who are very deep-skinned.

You need to offer foundations for all of the range of skin tones.

It's 2017.

In 2017, we should not have people who are at the deeper end of the spectrum unable to

buy a foundation from a brand because it doesn't exist.

I have heard all different reasons from brands as to why they don't offer deep foundation

shades.

Some stuff is really crazy.

It's like, "Well, women of color don't buy foundation."

No, that's not true.

I know many women who do.

"Women of color don't buy from our brand."

Well, that's like a chicken and egg problem.

Women of color may not buy from your brand if you don't offer a foundation shade that

they can buy.

There's not even an effort to include them.

That's bad.

One of the other things I've heard is that, "Well, it's too hard to make foundations

for deeper skin tones.

They always go ashy."

That sounds like you need a better product development person.

Anyway, whatever the excuse is, I think it's ridiculous because there are so many brands

who are doing it right.

If you look at Cover FX, they offer from shade N-0 to like N-120.

That is a wide range of foundations.

I think they have … I want to say they have over 40 different foundation shades in some

of their lines, so they really are making an effort to be inclusive for all global shades

of beauty.

I think they're doing a great job.

Kat Von D is doing a great job.

Urban Decay is doing a pretty good job too.

Those are just three brands, but they're all making an effort to make foundations for

deeper skin tones as well as lighter skin tones, so they're covering it all.

Other brands who aren't even making an effort, you have no excuse.

It's 2017.

Get with the picture.

People are not just beige.

Number seven.

If you are going to make a primer to go with your foundation, make sure that they actually

match.

If you have a silicone-based foundation, make sure that your primer is a silicone-based

primer.

Don't have a water-based primer that may or may not work with your silicone-based foundation.

I have a video that actually explains how to find out if your foundation and your primer

are compatible.

I know some people don't believe in using primers at all.

Other people swear by them, especially if you have oily skin, so make sure you check

out that video.

Number eight.

Please, please stop putting fragrance in your foundation.

Please stop this.

Fragrance is the number one reason that I break out.

It's the number one reason that a lot of people break out from a product.

Stop adding fragrance to foundation.

And your skin care, it shouldn't be there either.

It's not good for sensitive skin.

It's not good for people who have any sort of skin issues.

It causes them to break out, so just stop it.

It's not good.

Don't do it.

I hope you enjoyed this rant video about foundations.

I just had a lot that I needed to get off of my chest that's been driving me crazy

because I look through my foundation drawer, and I'm like, "How the hell can I have

two, maybe three foundations I can wear?

How is this possible?

With all of the money that I was spending on foundations, how is this possible?"

Yeah.

Anyway, what are your gripes about foundations?

What do you wish brands would do when it comes to making new foundations?

Revive that Windows Vista Laptop - Dell XPS M1710 - Epic Laptop Lives Again! - Duration: 5:14.

At some point in your life it's likely that you, a family member, or a friend has purchased

a pretty kick-ass seeming computer, only for it to slow down over time.

What a shame that such a seemingly-awesome computer isn't able to serve as the main

rig, right?

NO MORE!

It's time to revive your favorite computer and keep it around for even longer.

Let's take a look.

I'm EposVox, here to make tech more fun and easier to understand via free educational

videos.

This is the Dell XPS M1710.

This was a badass laptop for its time.

Featuring a beautiful 17" 1920x1200 display, an Intel Centrino dual core CPU, 2 GB of RAM

and a Nvidia GeForce Go 7900 GS graphics chip - it was a hefty work-horse of a rig for the

early 2000s.

And the build of it - it had everything that teenage Epos could dream of - SIX USB ports,

a DVD drive, firewire, headphone and microphone jacks, a SD card reader, VGA, DVI AND S-Video

outputs, along with a modem and ethernet port.

And the hard drive was easily removable via this dock slot on the right.

That makes this project even easier.

Oh yeah, and it features huge, booming speakers, full media control buttons on the front, and

LEDs EVERYWHERE!

This was the "gamer-y aesthetic" before that concept even existed.

Green LEDs on the speakers, vents, and XPS logo on the back, blue LEDs from the media

controls, and the trackpad also features a red-lit XPS logo.

Someone had fun designing this.

So what was the problem with this XPS beast?

Windows flipping Vista and the "mere" 2GB of RAM inside.

I used air quotes there, because at the time 2GB was high-end for laptops, but Microsoft

decided to make a bulky-AF operating system that ate RAM for breakfast and made most computers

- even high-end ones - slow and unresponsive.

Install any programs and even basic tasks like closing windows and opening the file

explorer become one of the strongest tests of patience in the history of personal computing.

Trying to use a used Vista build this many years later would be impossible - but we can

fix that right up with two things: A Solid State Drive, or SSD, and an installation of

a Linux operating system.

We'll be using the OCZ Trion 150 500GB SSD for this project.

This is a great SSD with super fast read and write speeds that I've used many times,

so thanks to Toshiba for sending one of these out.

For this project, I created a couple of scenarios.

I installed Lubuntu - a lightweight Linux installation created to perform fast on low-end

hardware - onto a Solid State Drive to show the "optimal" operating conditions.

A fast OS on a super fast SSD means this computer zooms and vrooms like never before.

Suddenly this beast of a PC feels like it was meant to feel when it was made.

Not only that, but the media keys are automatically supported by media players in Linux, with

no crazy driver installations needed.

Trying to install drivers for an old PC on a new Windows installation can be a nightmare.

But that's easy mode, I didn't stop there.

I installed a late 2016 build of Solus OS - a heavier Linux operating system - onto

a traditional 2.5" laptop hard drive as well.

The result?

Still responsive and snappy as can be - this thing is a beautiful Linux machine.

Solus OS - even with graphical animations - runs perfectly.

Loading YouTube videos in FireFox and multitasking works great.

Try running more than 3 programs at once in the Vista build and you'll want to pull

your hair out.

To really test performance here, I decided to test the time it takes to cold boot (from

a powered down state) not just into the operating system, but until the operating system is

usable for multitasking and a YouTube video could be played and skimmed.

As you can see, this is still an older laptop, and boot times won't been instant.

But the time to usability was vastly improved with Linux.

Lubuntu running on the SSD booted up and was usable the fastest, followed by SolusOS on

the hard drive.

It took nearly FIVE MINUTES for Vista to be remotely usable, and even then - RAM was mostly

pegged in the 90% range, making it overall very unresponsive.

I wasn't fully satisfied with this, so I went ahead and re-created the Windows Vista

installation (which took FOREVER to install, by the way) on the same SSD and ran my test

again.

Total boot to operation time was cut in HALF!

It still took longer than even the Solus OS boot from the hard drive, but was much quicker.

You can't get past the fact that the 2GB RAM installed was just not enough to multitask

heavily with Windows Vista, but the ability to swap RAM to disk quicker with a SSD allowed

it to keep up just a little more.

I still much preferred the Lubuntu installation, though, for obvious reasons.

This may not be entirely new information to all of you - but people aren't considering

Linux enough in their computing choices, and there are a LOT of really cool laptops out

there being sent to die when they'd function just fine still today.

If you want to buy a new computer made for Linux and unleashing your potential, check

out our sponsor, System76.

System76 is the best (IMO) system distributor for Linux-based PCs.

I just keep drooling over their new Oryx Pro workstation with a 4K HiDPI display.

I hope you enjoyed today's video.

I have a couple HP EliteBooks I'm excited to look at soon, too.

The Typical American Breakfast (Captions Available) - Duration: 5:50.

Hello! My name is AJ! Welcome to AJwave

In this video I am going to talk about the American breakfast

I will talk about the foods Americans typically eat

Many times my foreign friends ask me what I eat for breakfast

"what are you going to eat for breakfast?"

They assume I eat the typical American breakfast

They think I eat bacons, eggs, pancakes, waffles, sausage and drink coffee

They think I eat all of those things together

My foreign friends think I eat a huge meal for breakfast

If you look at movies or television, Americans seem to eat a big breakfast

By looking at TV and film, foreigners think Americans must have a big meal in the morning

It is true some of the time

There are people who eat a big breakfast every day. However, there are also people who eat nothing at all for breakfast

It depends on the person

I will talk about the types of breakfast meals you will see at an American restaurant

They usually offer a combination of eggs, bacon, sausages, toast, french toast, waffles, hot chocolate, or coffee

the first thing a restaurant will ask is "what do you want to drink?'

I usually drink water or orange juice for breakfast

Some people get hot chocolate or coffee

And some people drink soda for breakfast.....

I usually drink either orange juice, a glass of water or hot chocolate

I will talk about eggs

During breakfast, American restaurants will most likely offer eggs

The most common options are sunny-side up and scrambled eggs

Personally, I prefer scrambled eggs

I think scrambled eggs are more delicious and easier to eat .

Many restaurants serve pancakes and waffles

Some people prefer waffles.... some people prefer pancakes

I like both

Sometimes I eat waffles... other times I eat pancakes

I eat the foods I like depending on how I feel

Usually you eat pancakes and waffles with butter or maple syrup

I usually eat pancakes with maple syrup because I don't like to eat it with butter

Many Americans consume coffee every day for breakfast

Many Americans have to drink coffee to start their day

Some people like plain black coffee while others like it with sugar, cream or milk

Some people also like to drink a big cappuccino for breakfast

I don't have much to say about coffee since I do not like to drink coffee

At American restaurants , they offer bacon, sausage or ham for breakfast

You have several choices

Personally I do not like bacon or sausage, but many people like it

I will explain how it is like going to an American restaurant for breakfast

They usually offer a meal that has a little bit of everything

Something like three pancakes, two bacon, two eggs, and two sausages

If you go to a diner or a place like Denny's ... you will have the option to get a meal with many things

However, not all Americans eat the same things for breakfast

Depending on your cultural background, you may have a different type of breakfast

For example, near my house there is a Mexican cafe

They serve a Mexican style of breakfast every day at their cafe

I think it is very delicious

The ultimate fact is that most Americans don't eat a big breakfast everyday

Most Americans have to wake up early for work from Monday to Friday

Most people are too busy for a big breakfast

Americans usually have a big breakfast when they have more free time like during the weekends

I think most Americans don't eat huge meals for breakfast every day

I hope you enjoyed my video

I hope you learned something new from this video

Tell me what is your favorite meal to eat for breakfast

Do you prefer to eat waffles or pancakes?

Thanks for watching !

When we look at other people's faces,

we often subconsciously imitate their facial expressions.

It's called facial mirroring.

And it's a way for us to let other people know

we understand them, that we feel the same things that they feel.

Facial mirroring begins in infancy

and continuous throughout our lives.

Studies have shown that if you can't facially mirror,

if you can't express things with your own face,

you actually have trouble understanding

what other people's faces are expressing.

So to try that out,

let's hinder some people's facial muscles.

What's a good way to do that?

Well, how about a dose of botulinum toxin?

♪ ♪

We have gathered a group of volunteers

for a facial expression recognition experiment.

Thank you all for coming in today.

We're going to begin with a test.

A test of your ability to recognize

facial expressions.

Our participants will be shown pictures of eyes

expressing either positive or negative emotions.

Your task is to look at each face and to decide

which of those four emotions the face is expressing.

Makes sense?

Each photo is designed to display

one standard emotion that is known to elicit

an established consensus.

For example, in this photo,

what emotion would you identify?

If you said, "terrified,"

you'd be in the majority.

Now it's our participant's turn.

Okay, everyone ready? - Mm-hmm.

Our 12 volunteers will give us an idea

of how well the average person identifies emotions.

And 25.

I hope you had fun. Thank you for your time.

After 25 cards, our participants were able

to identify the correct positive emotion

77% of the time, and the correct negative emotion

78.8% of the time.

from mirroring the expressions they see...

[cap pops]

By freezing their faces with botox?

We forced all of these participants

to receive Botox injections.

- How are you? - I'm good.

I'm Dr. Ali. Nice to meet you.

- Just kidding. They were gonna do it anyway,

and they let us tag along in the name of science.

- What areas were you looking to get done?

- Um, I'd like to do this area. - Okay, okay.

- I would like to fix this part between my two eyebrows,

because I feel like-- I don't know.

I just look older and grumpy.

- Although we communicate a ton of information

with our faces, in the interest of looking younger,

many people pay to be injected with a chemical

that essentially renders our faces mute,

or rather, gives us a sort of facial speech impediment.

Botox was first used in the 1970s

to treat muscular eye disorders like crossed eyes

and uncontrollable blinking.

The FDA didn't approve the use of Botox

for cosmetic procedures until 2002.

The active ingredient in Botox is a toxin

produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.

This toxin can cause botulism in larger amounts,

but in smaller amounts when injected into, say,

the wrinkles between your eyebrows or around your mouth,

the toxin blocks the nerves from delivering signals

to the facial muscles, telling them to contract.

[bell tings]

- Pull your hair back a little bit...

- Yes. - And then tell me what areas

you were thinking of getting it done.

- So I was thinking here,

'cause I have a couple wrinkles

that are starting to show. - Okay.

- I'm 31 years old,

and I want to get Botox because I want to look young forever.

- Common expressions that people want to get rid of

is the angry lines, the furrows we get in between the eyes.

And the horizontal wrinkles we get in our forehead,

that will go away. - If the Botox procedure

prevents these patients from being able to mirror

the facial expressions of others,

will it also impede their ability to recognize

the emotions associated with those expressions?

- Have you had Botox before? - I never have.

- Do you wanna touch everything? - If we can, yeah.

- Yeah, definitely. - Awesome.

I think Botox is probably going to change my expressions

and I might have to overdo them a little bit,

but I already do that anyway,

so I think that it won't matter so much.

- You doing okay? - Mm-hmm.

- We'll soon explore whether paralyzing

their facial muscles affects how these patients score

on the facial recognition test.

- You may not see the results for at least

three to seven days. - Oh, yeah. Okay.

But will that affect how they interpret emotions in others?

All right, just 75 more. [women scoff]

Kidding. That's the end of the exam.

In our pre-Botox study, our participents identified

77% of the positive emotions

and 78.8% of the negative emotions correctly.

But after Botox, our participents

correctly identified only 73.8% of the positive emotions

and 68.8% of the negative emotions.

So, at least in our modest sample,

once our participents lost their ability to frown

they found it especially difficult

to identify negative emotions in others.

But if modern advances like Botox can impede

our capacity to read other's faces,

can other forms of technology enhance our ability

to see emotions?

Author and theoretical neurobiologist Mark Changizi

has developed a scientific way to read facial expressions.

Mark, I'm glad you came over, because you have knowledge

about facial expressions and what's going on

beyond just the more obvious external stuff.

Is blood flow part of facial expressions?

- Yeah, so we don't usually think about it,

but at all times you're seeing

these subtle modulations of color.

And as you get more blood or less blood under the skin,

it becomes bluer or yellower, and as it becomes more

or less oxygenated,

it becomes redder or greener.

And this is true independent

of what ethnicity you are, what race you are,

or what kind of primate you are. It's the same.

- What emotions correlate to what colors?

- Well, there's a rough sense in which when you're angry,

you're showing oxygenated blood.

When you're sad, it's more likely

to be showing greener.

If you're fearful, your blood pumps away

from the periphery, which means

that it gets yellower.

- So, Mark, you've brought some tools with you,

an invention of yours, actually, that helps us

better perceive these color changes.

- That's right, so these are what paramedics wear

'cause they're nice, protective eyewear

that they should be wearing anyway,

and when you wear these, your veins,

suddenly they're glowing a little bit.

The same technology that helps paramedics see veins

also allows you to see emotions better

because it's enhancing that same oxygenation signal

that those emotions rely upon.

- So you've got glasses that allow us

to better see the colors that are related to emotion

and how it's affected by blood flow.

- That's right. This is not the kind of thing--

it's not like you look and it says, "angry,"

you know, written across the screen.

No, it works on your normal intuitions.

The idea is that it makes those signals easier to see,

so it should give you more insight

into what their mood, what their intent is.

- Whether through technology or evolution,

we humans have always found a way to read

and use facial expressions.

And those expressions show no sign

of becoming less important,

unless we evolve past having faces, of course.

So, did you like the show?

If you didn't, put a pencil in your mouth

and go watch it again.

If you enjoy it more or less or the same,

just let us know.

Science will thank you.

And as always, thanks for watching.

VLOG by ceh9: Dreamhack results, why did Na`Vi have an argument? (ENG SUBS) - Duration: 9:12.

Hello, my dear friends, this is ceh9, and today we'll talk about Na`Vi performance at the Major.

No, not the Major, it's already in the past, they performed so-so, they lost to the future champions after the groupstage.

There was another tournament, Dreamhack Las Vegas, the guys practiced, but they lost.

The feature of this tournament was that the coach was allowed to talk whenever he wants in game, he could in-game lead.

But for some reason Na`Vi didn't use it, and Denis Seized Kostin continued to coordinate.

He is Na`Vi's captain and considering the team lost, captain didn't coordinate well,

or the roster didn't follow his ideas, there is a connection here.

So they lost, not losing at all is impossible, but they probably lost too much.

During the last half a year the team won one tournament, but didn't achieve top 3 in other tournament.

For some reason they can't find their game, but we could say it's more or less fine, they practice,

maybe they'll find their game one day and Denis will do everything right,

but it seems like the guys had an argument, Guardian told us about it at the tournament, after the game against Mousesports.

They had an argument when the score was 12-8, and I think the reason was some misunderstanding between players.

Which players? I don't know, maybe Edward, maybe Guardian, maybe Seized, S1mple or Flamie, it's hard to tell.

They know it themselves, but the question is why did they argue at all?

They are pro players, that was the first stage of the tournament, they were ahead...

They are Na`Vi after all, born to win... they are over 20 years old mostly.

Edward is almost 29, the Slovak is 25, Seized is 23, Flamie 20, S1mple is 18-19,

they have a lot of tournament experience, manager constantly works with them,

but for some reason they had an argument.

As the result they didn't perform well, it affected them in a bad way...

They probably came to an agreement later, but why did they argue during the tournament?

Why can't every person forget their grudges, misunderstandings, give fives and continue to win?

And then again, talking about Denis as an in-game leader, I can't understand it...

Well, I can, he is practicing, and they used that tournament to practice for the upcoming more important tournaments.

But excuse me, you didn't win anything for half a year, you were at $450.000 Dreamhack,

you were at the tournament with a huge amount of viewers, for example I commentated Gambit-North,

62.000 people were watching us at the peak, and it was only Russian stream.

It was a very prestigious tournament, but they decided to use it as a practice.

That was a weird decision.

I think they'd do fine with Starix being IGL, the team could've even won the whole thing, or placed 2nd at least.

And this would boost their motivation and give them more confidence.

I think this roster lacks the feeling of "We can do it".

You know, they played at the Major...

That's why I started talking about the Major in the first place.

They played at the Major and also had a huge slump before the New Year,

but it's a Major after all, so they did a good job preparing for the event, winning almost all the opponents,

they came up with a lot of new strategies.

They won 3 games in the group stage, and then they got this feeling of "We can do it, we totally can, we're tough!"

But then they face Astralis and this feeling is gone.

They lacked something, didn't perform up to par, made mistakes, got nervous.

"We can do it", but Astralis took it away and, as a result, became the champions.

Anyway, maybe the stars were aligned for Astralis to become the champions.

And maybe if Na`Vi won over Astralis, they'd advance further and even fight for the title.

But again, their hopes were dashed and it's really hard to get back in form after this.

Why just not let Starix be an IGL at least for one tournament?

This would allow Denis to rest, he's not really efficient in terms of KDA,

he would feel less responsibility and relax from being the IGL.

He'd just play, have fun, provide information, help with some other stuff.

Boost team's morale, as he used to do it before.

Perhaps everything would have been different,

they'd win the tournament, yes, with Starix as an IGL,

but they'd probably get the feeling of being the winner, at least remotely.

And this would help them do better in the upcoming tournaments.

But for some reason it didn't happen.

Another thing, they didn't prepare Inferno for this tournament, they played it but didn't want to take the risk and pick it.

But on the other hand, if they did, I would probably say that it was too much of a risk,

so maybe it's for the better that they didn't pick Inferno.

Although it's gonna be hard for them without having Inferno in their pool, they need to practice it anyway,

because they don't play Cache at all, so they'll have to play Inferno.

They'll probably prepare Inferno for the next tournament and pick it there.

But at this tournament, Na`Vi didn't show anything special.

Yes, they did put up a fight against SK, they played really well,

got a lot of emotions, were close to winning,

but leaving Train in the pool against SK...

Some might say SK is very strong and unbeatable on Train, but VP has also learned how to play Train very well.

Na`Vi put up a fight on Mirage, but were unable to do it on Train.

And starting the series with a loss on the first map, knowing that you'll probably lose the second one is really hard.

That's it, frieds.

To sum things up, a) Starix should've been the IGL for this tournament;

b)... Starix should've been the IGL.

But that's another story.

Practice, practice and practice.

See you next time, my name is Arseniy "Ceh9" Trynozhenko.

Ah, and one more thing, don't argue.

Arguing is unacceptable for a team at the tournament, this is absolute nonsense.

It's disrespectful to yourself, to each other, to the fans, this is totally unacceptable.

You should always control yourself, be focused and not let your dark side out.

See you soon, bye-bye.

A nice place to shop awesome souvenirs in here is PAMM store. It's the best way to take home some cheap art pieces to remember Miami.

In here, what I like most, are also the gardens.

Those are vertical gardens projected by Herzog and De Meuron, Pritzker architecture prize winners.

Here you can see Downtown and Miami Port. And that makes the view even nicer!

As I had the whole picnic basket, I'm not gonna eat anything else today!

No, you'll go find Prnze, he's had plenty of time to train whatever he's training

Here I am

Wow, how many people. I didn´t know that my party was going to be so successful.

The blonde is mine!

Let´s play!

Well, it looks like it's all over

No, it's not over yet. Never underestimate the Joker
