South Korea will hold meetings this week with six Central American countries for a legal
review of their pending free trade agreement.
A team from Seoul's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy will meet its counterparts from
Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama and Honduras... for three days of negotiations...
starting Monday.
The seven nations hope to review the entire deal,... which covers commodities, service
investment and place of origin,... and ultimately produce a finalized text.
The trade deal was reached last November, and the goal is to officially sign it in the
first half of this year.
Korea's trade with the six countries reached four billion U.S. dollars in 2015, accounting
for about zero-point-four percent of Seoul's total trade.

DAILY GOODIE BOX FREE SAMPLE BOX UNBOXING + REVIEW | KOSMIC KRISTEN - Duration: 3:56.
Hey Everyone! It's Kristen :)
and today we are going to be unboxing another
Daily Goodie Box
it has been a very long time since I got one
I believe it was more than six months ago
but they are very highly requested
and a lot of people really love them
so they have to send them out to different people
so it's not a monthly thing
it's just kind of when you are lucky enough to get one
I will leave the link down below where you can sign up to possibly get a box
and with Daily Goodie Box
what they expect you to do is
try out the stuff and then go back to their website and
review the items that you got
you don't really have to write a long review
just a little paragraph saying what you liked and disliked
about the product
so it's really simple
so I'm going to be showing you the product and
also a close up over here on the side
first we have Herr's Popped Potato chips
in Tangy BBQ
a sample pack of Nellie's All Natural Laundry Soda
and it says there is enough for 15 scoops in here
next we have a Nature's Bakery Fig Bar in Raspberry
Next, we have a Dream Water Snooze Berry Flavoring
I believe you put this in water
we have Aloaha Dietary Supplement Chocolate Blend
and it's a powder that you also add to a drink
Next, we have Xylichew
and I believe that is how you say it
it's natural no sweetener gum
this is the Vermont Cracked Pepper Beef and Pork Stick
kind of like a Slim Jim type item
Next, we have Jack and Jill Natural Toothpaste
pretty good size there
Next we have Coffee Blocks Better Butter Coffee
Next we have Gorilly Goods Curry Cashew and Fruit Mix
a trial mix type item
Then next we have Just Chill Tropical Calm and Focus
and it's kind of like an energy drink
and lastly a few coupons here
this one is for Aloaha and it's 20% off
and then we also have on for Gorilly Goods for 25% off
so that's all we got for this box
for the Daily Good Box
very nice stuff
I really love Daily Good Box
I love that they have a bunch of different snacks that I
have never heard of or seen before
so that's always fun
I wish they came out more often but they are
very in demand
people see these boxes and really really want to try them
so they have to send them out to batches of people
because there is just so many
but it is really fun to get one when you do
they are still taking emails so
I will put the link either here or down below
where you can sign up
I really encourage you to do this
it's really easy to do
just try out the product and write a little review
telling them whether you liked it or not
it's one of the more simple review type items to get into
if you are interested in that
and if you are interested in doing more review items
and finding other products to review then I will link somewhere
up here my playlist of where to get freebies and review products from
I have been kind of lacking on my freebie and review videos
lately but I do plan to get back into it
and hopefully get back to where I was with it
and if you guys would like to see those videos
I will try to link them somewhere up here
to see my weekly freebie and sample videos
so if you like this video, than please give it a thumbs up
and if you are interested in seeing future review and freebie product
videos from me than please subscribe to my channel
Thank you guys so much for watching and I hope to see you again soon :)

Bath & Body Works Haul: SAS Sale / After Holiday / Candle Sale - Duration: 8:17.
Hey guys, welcome back to my channel.
So I've been doing quite a few Bath & Body Works hauls lately
because I love it so much
The last one I did was from candle day
and it was of their holiday collection
and I have another one today,
it's a little bit smaller because I gave a lot of
it away for Christmas presents
So I did go before Christmas
sorry this is a little late
but I thought it just would be fun to share and
just keep adding to my collection of Bath & Body Works videos
because you guys seem to love them.
I'm obsessed, I'm learning their coupon game
and using all of that sort of stuff
and so many people talk about Bath & Body Works,
there's like a following on Instagram
and Youtube.
So, I don't know, it's always fun to talk to you guys
about this sort of thing.
I have a bag from, I think this is their Christmas bag?
So I did go right before Christmas so it was
right before their semi-annual sale
so I was kicking myself a little bit
because I think a lot of these things got a little bit cheaper
but, hey. I'm sure some of these things are still out
and on sale
some might not be,
so let's get started.
So I went with my mom and we got a bunch of hand soaps
I think it was like the 6 for $24 deal
That doesn't sound right,
it was the 6 for something deal
so it was more efficient to get a bunch.
So we gave some away as gifts
they're good for - I think we gave our hairdresser one,
or like family friends,
they're fun to add to a little gift basket.
So these are three of the ones we still have
Vanilla Bean Noel,
I love this scent, I get it in everything.
It's Fresh Vanilla Bean,
Warm Caramel, and Sugar Cookies
So I love these soaps, whenever they're on sale
I will pick some up.
We got Merry Cookie
how cute is the decorations on this stuff?
I want them to still have holiday things
because they just are so adorable.
This one is Buttery Sugar Cookie,
and Vanilla Bourbon Icing.
Clearly I love vanilla.
And then this one is Holly Jolly Berry
which smelled really nice.
We opened it up and it kind of spilled everywhere
well not everywhere, but I got a little on myself.
This one is Sparkling Raspberries
and Juicy Pomegranate
it smelled really nice.
Wow, yeah this is going to be sort of a quick haul
because I hardly kept anything for myself.
So there's not much left to show you
but we did get a lot of good deals that day
it was probably like a week before the holidays
or so. And you guys might remember they had that
little holiday gift bag deal
I think it was $35,
they were cute little bags, one was a reindeer and
one had a Christmas tree on it
and we gave the bag away but it was really cute
And in it were 9 items
so I have a few of them here
It also had a full sized body lotion and
shower wash of
I think Pink Cashmere or something like that
it had the Champagne Toast full sized body butter
in really nice special edition packaging
and it also came with the full sized fine fragrance mist
in Champagne Toast.
Look at this packaging, it's so pretty!
and nice! I've never seen them do this upscale of
packaging. So this came in there,
each item worked out to be very inexpensive.
There was also a mini Warm Vanilla Sugar
spray, there was
I think the Holly Jolly Berry soap actually came in that set
it came with a soap.
A mini Warm Vanilla Sugar hand cream
Probably something else in Champagne Toast
which I was a little hesitant about
because - this scent is okay
but I kind of got sick of it,
I had a candle of it and I just gave it away
because I couldn't stand it anymore.
So this is just - we're using it as a room spray in the bathroom
my mom thought that would be a good idea
and I'm like 'mom, those are really strong
and they're sort of like perfume'
so you kind of walk around smelling like this the whole day
if you use it, but it's really nice
I like it more than I remember liking it
And it also came with a little PocketBac
of the Holly Jolly Berry
and it came with this little holder,
this glitter one, so I don't have any for this new
shape, I only have them for the old size.
So this is kind of fun to just hang in your purse.
So that made really good gifts, like I said I went with my mom
and I had a bunch of coupons
I had some from the mail
one was a free signature collection item
which I'll show you in a second
up to a $14 value
and then on email I had one up to
a $13 value.
So we had two, so I let my mom use one.
And she picked up this Cocktail Dress
Crystal Peonies
body lotion, again, in really fancy holiday packaging
This smells so nice,
although it's a little strong,
I put it on the other day and a little while after I got a headache
so I think it might be this stuff,
but it's hers anyways
so I don't have to worry too much
But it has this nice packaging
They had Champagne Toast
and a couple other scents
in this. This is Crystal Peonies
Bright Mandarin,
Sheer Cedar and Velvet Musk
and normally this would've been $12.50
so she got that as her free item.
And then for mine,
I finally got some Winter Candy Apple lotion
this is also regularly $12.50
I love this scent
so much, and I really don't need any lotion
like I really don't
but I was like, you know what? That's my favorite lotion scent
it's gonna be gone in two seconds,
so I might as well snap it up,
it was free. So this has
Red Apple,
Winter Rose Petals,
Candied Orange, Maple Leaf, and
Fresh Cinnamon.
That sounds a little different than past years
but this is my all time favorite scent by them
It's nostalgic at this point
it reminds me of a certain time in my life
so this is nice, it has their new packaging
with the rose gold top.
I'm so excited, it was free!
I got 2 of these coupons,
one must be my mom's,
$10 off a $30 purchase
but they expired December 27
They gave us these only a few days before they expired
anyways, so unfortunately couldn't use that.
Or it's also $20 off $50
but we didn't go back, but, I don't know, these look really cute.
Uh oh...this is not the scent I thought it was!
I'm really confused.
I thought I bought something else, I thought I bought the raspberry lime margarita
But this has been wrapped up in paper since I bought it?
I guess I got a different candle?
I guess I changed my mind.
Candles were $12.50, so that's a pretty good price,
they're normally $22.50
so I picked up a Snowflakes & Citrus
they've had this out for awhile
or they'd had at the time
and I never was super into it
but then I smelled it in a candle and it was really nice.
So this I'm actually not keeping,
this is a gift, I still haven't seen this friend
to give them their Christmas present
so I'm still holding onto it.
But this is Frozen Lemon Peel,
Fresh Squeezed Tangerine,
Winter White Mango
and Sugared Snow Crystals.
It's nice, it's not...
really too anything.
It smells like some sort of orangey lemon alcoholic drink
of some kind,
like a Long Island Iced Tea or something
The texture on this looks a little weird.
Do you see that? It kind of has little...
marks in it?
I don't know how to explain that
it looks like cottage cheese or something, slightly.
I totally thought I bought a different candle
that was surprising
but the packaging on this was so cute,
I love their little winter signature packaging they do
every year,
it's so cute. So this was really nice
and I forgot I bought this scent
hey, surprise!
At that point I had just hit up Candle Day a few weeks
before, so I didn't need any for myself
we also got Chestnut & Clove
for a gift as well,
she really liked it. So yeah, we had lots of fun
these are just some cute little things I picked up
I'm not sure which of these are still out
they might be on clearance.
Cocktail Dress might still be out
I feel like this was a New Year's - y collection
that and Champagne Toast
that kind of looked like it.
So that's everything I got,
I hope you guys enjoyed this video.
I love sharing these with you guys
let me know how you like them
If you did like it, give it a thumbs up
so I know.

I have merch now! 😄 | Riley J. Dennis - Duration: 2:22.
You know, I don't really like coffee, but I love tea.
I dunno if you can see this but it's a mug and it says -- oh, wait for it, oh there we
go -- "there are more than two genders."
Ahhh, I love it.
Yeah, so I have merch now!
I also have this shirt, I dunno if you can see it.
It says "Riley Jay" and has all these little like lightning bolts and stars and hearts and stuff
around it -- it's so cute!
And the other thing I have here is a laptop case that says "intersectional feminism",
ahhhh yeah.
You can buy all of these things at my TeePublic store which will be the first link in the
description, and I actually have a bunch of other designs too.
The way that TeePublic works is that you can choose any design and then choose the background
color and also what product it's on.
So you can get any of the designs on a t-shirt or a coffee mug or a laptop case.
You can also get wall art, phone cases, travel mugs, or notebooks.
So let me show you the designs because I'm really proud of them.
There are 18 of them and I designed 17.
The only one I didn't design is this logo -- this was made by like an actual designer, not me.
So there's this "Your gender is valid and awesome" and it has this cool like gold/white
texture to it.
There's the "Sometimes I'm really gay with an asterisk, and then the little bit under
it says "all the time".
Then we have the simple just "queer af".
I also have 3 pronoun shirts, so there's they/them, she/her, or he/him.
The good ol' polyamory is not cheating.
And I really like this one -- it's the checkboxes for Mr., Mrs., Ms., and Mx., which is the
gender neutral honorific.
There's also the "If it affects some of us, it affects all of us" design, which I think
is a thing I said in a video a while back, but it's basically the idea that like oppression,
even of a minority group, affects everybody.
Got your classic "girls are pretty" because they are.
Oh and there's this nice lovely "fuck your bigotry".
This one's a little bit longer.
It says "Fight for social justice, fight for political change, but don't forget to take care of yourself".
Then we got the enby-utiful.
Get it?
It's like a play on words with enby for non-binary and beautiful.
Ahhh, I really like it.
And there's the "Are you a boy or a girl? No."
So those are all of the designs.
If you would like to get any of those, you can use the first link down in the description.
And if you do get anything, make sure you tweet me a photo of you wearing it or holding it or whatever.
So if you liked any of those designs, definitely go check out my merch store.
But also, if you can't afford anything, like, that's totally fine.
You don't have to buy any of this.
But I'm really excited about this.
I've been working on it for a long time and I'm so glad to finally be able to share it with all of you.
Ahh, I really hope you guys like the designs.
Um, let me know in the comments, which one is your favorite?
And in my next video, I have another really cool announcement coming up, so stay tuned
for that, and yeah, I love you all! I'll see you next time!
I lied, this is just water.

THE BIGGEST MUSIC FESTIVAL EVER | My Aspen Experience - Duration: 7:10.
Hey guys! It's Esther here.
Welcome to my channel.
Today, I'm gonna be talking to you guys about my experience at the Aspen Music Festival.
So I had the privilege of attending the Aspen Music Festival in 2015
and fortunately for me
I received full scholarship
which means that I did not have to pay tuition or room and board.
Aspen is a very long program.
You either stay there for 4 weeks for 1 session
or 8 weeks for two sessions.
Now I had to stay there for 8 weeks because
if you receive scholarship
um it is a requirement you stay there for the full session.
I was also accepted into the Wu Han and Finckel Chamber Program
which was an eye-opener.
I personally had such a blast
in Aspen
but I'm pretty sure there are other people, other students
who had very different experiences than I did because Aspen is such a big festival.
There are over 600 students that participate
and the students are either from different states in America or other countries.
So it is a very international atmosphere.
So I'm gonna be talking about Aspen in different categories
just like I did in my Banff video.
I'm comparing my ratings to other music festivals I've been to.
Personal Room.
I would give Aspen a
3.9/5 for their personal room.
For Aspen, I stayed in the Marolt Ranch...(I think that's what it's called).
You share your dorm room with 2 other people...usually.
How it's structured is that there is a front room
which is the single room
and then you enter into the washroom
which then leads to a bigger back room
which is for 2 people.
I lived in the single room.
The good thing is
you get your own space. YAY!
The bad thing is
your roommates have to always walk past your room to get to their room
which means that if you're sleeping late at night and your roommates are coming in later
they will always have to go through your room while you're sleeping.
Now I did not mind that as much
but it's not the greatest experience.
Aspen does not provide bedsheets.
Now if you are going to attend the Aspen Summer Festival
I would highly recommend you guys
to bring your own pillow.
There's also a fridge
which is really nice because if you go to the grocery store and you get
your favourite drink
you can stock - stock it all up in the fridge
and always take it out with you to rehearsals.
FOOOOOOD <3
As you all know
I love food.
This is from my experience, OK GUYS?!
I would give it a
3.7/5 for their food.
I think it's just like your everyday cafeteria food.
They had the basic salad bar and veggies
and for drinks they had the very basic soda dispensers
and my go-to-drink there was always blue Gatorade.
Actually, blue Gatorade mixed with red Gatorade.
You eat a lot of hot dogs, pizzas, sometimes steak, sometimes burgers
but there's not a lot of like
Asian food.
Now I will talk about practise rooms.
I would give it a
5/5.
They have this building which is a row of practise rooms.
It's very small.
What I also like about it is that it's clean.
Teachers.
I would give Aspen
a 6/5 for their teachers.
Unlike Banff where every student goes through the same teachers
in Aspen you have to select which teacher you wanna study with.
I really loved my selection of teachers
and I loved what they had to say and what advice they had to give me.
I'm also talking about the conductors that you get to meet.
I was placed in the chamber orchestra. There were a lot of great charismatic conductors
and it was very inspiring.
Now the atmosphere of the program.
I would give the atmosphere 4/5.
But it really depends how much you immerse yourself into the community.
Compared to other music festivals I've gone to
I would say Aspen is definitely
a more competitive environment.
But Aspen is like living in a city.
There are so many things to see, so many people to meet
but you don't have all the time in the world for that.
For opportunities, I would give Aspen
a 5/5.
Whichever orchestra you get placed into you'll do a lot of performing.
If you wanna perform solo you-
I think you have to sign up to perform but
most of the time you would get the spot.
And it really depends how hard you push yourself so
if you really wanna perform lots of solo works
you can definitely do that.
Recreations.
I would give Aspen a
4.2/5 for their recreations.
There is a little centre where you can
swim and also ice skate with your friends
but you also have to take a bus for that.
There's a lot of great hiking trails in Aspen, of course.
But I personally did not go on any of them.
There are thousands of concerts happening in Aspen and as a student you do get access to them.
And Aspen in general is just a beautiful area
where you can go into the town
and see a lot of beautiful stores as well as eat some really good ice cream at Paradise.
(I think that's what it's called)
Overall, Aspen was a great experience for me.
I got to meet tons of people.
I think it's definitely something that a lot of musicians should experience
because you're immersed in this environment with hundreds of other musicians
who have the same passion and drive as you.
Anyways, so that's the end of my video for Aspen.
If you guys have any questions about Aspen or
about other summer music festivals
or anything related to violin or classical music
please go ahead and ask me :)
If you guys like this video, please give it a thumbs up
subscribe or comment.
Anddd...
I guess I'll see you guys in the next video.
Bye!

Alice in Wonderland is not about Drugs (But it is trippy as hell) - Duration: 12:39.
Alice in Wonderland isn't about drugs.
Now, I know that may come as a surprise to some people.
It's pretty standard internet fair to point at Alice, with all the trippy visuals and
the mushrooms and the Hookah caterpillar, and declare that it was REALLY all about drugs
this whole time, oh ho ho, and Disney made a movie about it!
But it's not.
It's not about drugs.
I want to talk about Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass
a little bit today, what they are really about, where this idea of them being about drugs
came from, and why I find it to kind of be bullshit.
So, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is an 1865 novel written by English novelist
Charles Lutwidge Dodgson under the pseudonym Lewis Carrol.
The sequel, Through the Looking Glass, was published in 1871.
I'm going to focus mainly on these two original books, and not the dozens and dozens and dozens
of adaptations and remakes that exist.
For the record, both books are in the public domain, so it's very easy to find pdf copies
of them on the internet.
Almost every movie version of Alice, including the Disney one, splices together elements
and plot points from both of the books, rather than simply adapting one story or the other.
It's not particularly important to know which characters and events happen in each,
since they are very often published as a pair anyway.
But we're going to have a quick overview.
-
In Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Alice is a young girl who is in the garden of her
home playing with her cat Dinah when she sees a white rabbit in a waistcoat run past, apparently
late to an appointment.
She follows the rabbit down the rabbit hole and thus into wonderland.
What follows is a quintessential example of literary nonsense, filled with word play,
puns, and absurdity as Alice works her way through Wonderland.
She eats an odd bite of cake and drinks a potion which change her size.
She cries so hard she creates a sea.
She recites some poetry she had to memorize for school buts gets it all wrong.
She meets a mouse that won't answer her call in English, so she tries talking to it
in French.
She wonders if this assumed French mouse came over with William the Conqueror, because Alice
doesn't know much about when things in history happened.
They reach the shore where other animals are.
The mouse then gives a lecture on william the conqueror and the animals agree to a Caucus
race to dry off (Because Alice doesn't know what a caucus actually is.)
Alice meets the Caterpillar, who seems to speak in riddles, correcting her grammar and
not making sense.
She meets the Duchess, who yells a lot and seems to ignore her baby.
She meets the Cheshire Cat, who again, doesn't make a lot of sense, and then the Mad Hatter
and March Hare.
More and more riddles.
She plays a VERY silly game of croquet with the Queen of Hearts where the rules don't
make sense and the Queen cheats a lot.
She meets a Mock Turtle (a pun on Mock Turtle soup, apparently Alice thought Mock Turtles
were an animal).
Then the world's silliest court scene, where everything is unfair and doesn't make sense,
and then Alice goes back home, waking up as if from a dream.
Set presumably about half a year later, in Through the Looking Glass, Alice is playing
inside the house with two cats, Dinah's kittens, when she contemplates the mirror
in the room.
She finds that she is able to walk through the mirror and back into Wonderland.
She discovers a mostly nonsense poem, Jabberwocky, which can only be read if you hold it up to
a mirror.
She also finds that the chess pieces in the room have come to life.
What follows is another adventure in mostly absurdity, though if you know how, you can
actually use Looking Glass as a step by step guide for a real chess game.
Alice plays the part of one of the white pawns.
She wanders through the garden of living flowers, meets Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, talks to
Humpty Dumpty, and eventually makes all the way across the "board" and becomes a queen
herself.
The Red and White queens throw her a party, and then confuse her with riddles and wordplay.
This actually results in Alice physically confronting the Red Queen and "Capturing
her", putting the Red King into "Checkmate" unintentionally, and thus, she wakes up in
her arm chair back home having won the game.
Quick recommendation, if you want to get all of the little wordplay and puns and references
in Alice and Looking Glass, I recommend the Annotated Alice by Martin Gardner.
It's awesome.
- These books are pretty strange.
So, if not a psychedelic reflection about a weird acid trip, or whatever, what's up
with these books?
Why are they so weird?
Well, Carrol said he wrote the book after he and a friend spent a day on a river trip
with the 3 young daughters of Henry Liddell in 1862.
During their journey, Carrol entertained the girls with a made up nonsense story about
a girl named Alice.
Alice Liddell was so entranced that she told Carrol he should publish it.
And so he did.
He spent a few years refining the story before it was finally published, and the real Alice
got her copy.
So on the surface, it's just that- a silly story meant to amuse children, a celebration
of imagination and childhood silliness.
But there are some underlying themes in these books.
The encounters Alice has have a sort of pattern to them- Adults in the books, whether they
are the Queen of Hearts or the White Queen, the Duchess or the Hatter, often speak in
riddles.
They make up rules that don't make sense and refuse to explain them.
The white rabbit is obsessed with never being late, and much of the word play or silliness
comes from Alice not understanding adult or unfamiliar concepts (like the Mock Turtle
or a Caucus race.)
And so the books become a very silly exploration of how a child, viewing the adult world, might
feel confused and lost.
Wonderland is Adulthood cloaked in familiar childhood clothes.
Nursery Rhymes and game board pieces doing a fumbling pantomime of adulthood, discussing
mathematical concepts and latin grammar, through the eyes of a child who doesn't understand
it.
There are many things that can be pulled from Alice- ideas of innocence, of escapism, of
identity and sense of self, of intentionally bucking order in favor of disorder.
But none of those things are drugs.
(Sidenote: There is a whole other issue about Carrol's….relationship with the Liddell
daughters, and his...fondness for young girls in general.
This is a whole separate debate, and it gets kinda messy with contemporary views of childhood
and adulthood and whether there was anything...untoward about his fondness for them.
But that's really not what we're talking about today.
)
- So, why do people think this is a story about
drugs?
Carrol wasn't known for opium use, or even heavy drinking.
He had no exposure to psychedelics (magic mushrooms wouldn't be discovered by Europeans
until 1955) So why?
I think the easiest answer is that people want stories to make sense.
I want stories to make sense.
I spent a lot of money going to college to get a degree in "Making stories make sense."
We want there to be a reason that things happen in stories, and so when a story feels as random
and silly and surreal as Alice, we want to figure out what it's REALLY about.
This is kind of the underlying idea behind surrealism in general- creating art and meaning
out of the absurd and random images of dreams and unreality.
[Side note, there is an edition of Alice with illustrations by Salvador Dali, which is...amazing.]
And thanks to the culture of the 1960s and 1970s, there is a heavy association between
reality-bending images and drug use, especially hallucinogens.
And depending on which adaptation you are looking at, some movies really play up this
trippy psychedelic aesthetic for Alice.
But I think there's another level to this one, and one that I find much more grating.
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is a story for children, especially for girls.
And there is a certain segment of the population, especially among young adults on the internet,
who really seem to enjoy taking things aimed at children and declaring NO, this thing isn't
for kids, it's actually FOR ME, and slapping an edgy dark interpretation on top of it,
however sloppily.
Fan theories like...Ash is in a coma all along, or all the Rugrats are dead and Angelica is
just imagining them, and...yeah, a huge slice of the Brony fandom declaring that adult men
are the real audience, they aim at appropriating and co-opting child media for adult consumption
And there's something about that which leaves a sour taste in my mouth over all.
- I don't think there's anything inherently
bad about reimagining child stories in more adult ways.
But I do think it somewhat misses the point when people begin to insist that these mature
reimaginings are the CORRECT or more valid interpretation, especially if they lead to
the exclusion of children from that media space.
With Alice in particular, I think the story gives adult readers a chance to empathize
with children, not as dolls or objects of cuteness, but as people interacting with a
confusing and strange world as they grow up.
It is an opportunity to revisit childhood, with all it's familiar characters and uncertainty
and wonder, and rather than corrupt that story, I think it should be embraced.
I'm going to leave you with the end of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
Alice's adult sister, having heard her story, lays back, and herself begins to dream, of
Wonderland and of her sister Alice.
And This is what it says, "Lastly, she pictured to herself how this same little sister of
hers would, in the after-time, be herself a grown woman; and how she would keep, through
all her riper years, the simple and loving heart of her childhood: and how she would
gather about her other little children, and make their eyes bright and eager with many
a strange tale, perhaps even with the dream of Wonderland of long ago: and how she would
feel with all their simple sorrows, and find a pleasure in all their simple joys, remembering
her own child-life, and the happy summer days."
And that is what Wonderland is about.
Thanks for watching this video!

The Story of Varian Wrynn - Part 5 of 5 [Lore] - Duration: 32:11.
Hello everyone!
Last week we talked about Varian nearly losing his life to the twilights hammer cult, but
his son Anduin brought him back.
Garrosh pushed forward with his plans of conquering the world by attacking theramore and the war
eventually made its way to pandaria.
His Horde is crumbling beneath him though, the darkspear rebellion is on its way and
the alliance is unified like never before.
Meanhile in the city of Orgrimmar, Warchief Garrosh Hellscream sent goblin dig teams all
across the continent of Pandaria.
He promised gold and riches to any who could discover for him the hidden secrets of this
land that fill Pandaria with suck a dark and powerful energy.
To my surprise, his people have found something!
Right here, in the sacred vale!
What will happen now?"
What happens now is that Garrosh has found the heart of the old god Y'shaarj which
he drops in the sacred waters of vale to empower it, causing a massive explosion and destruction
to the land.
It was time to siege Orgrimmar and kick Garrosh out of the mantle of warchief.
Both the alliance and the horde rebellion worked together on this, but at Bladefist
bay we discovered that Vol'jin's rebellion was unable to secure the bay.
Warlord Zaela and her dragonmaw are holding the shores and we must take out their canons
before our ships can make landfall so we do just that...
"You think you have won?
We are orcs pure of blood, commanded by the greatest warchief who has ever lived.
Your blood will fill this bay."
"Well done.
Landing parties form up, footman to the front."
"The Dragonmaw are supporting the warchief."
"Yes.
My scouts learned all about this one.
"Warlord Zaela."
bring her proto-drake down and the rest of the Dragonmaw will crumble."
"We're going to need some serious fire power."
Commandeer those towers!
Turn the anti-air batteries around and blast her from the sky.
Some of you should stay behind and hold the landing zone."
"Dragonmaw clan, retake the docks and push them into the sea!
In the name of Hellscream and the true horde!"
"Roaaaargh, it worked!
The proto-drake is falling!"
"Death" "We've done it."
"Giggle, the bigger they are..."
"We'll hold the docks for the remaining landing parties.
Follow the path to the gates of Orgrimmar and make contact with Vol'jin and his revolutionaries."
"We'll see if he managed to keep up his end of the bargain."
The gates crumble and our forces take on everything that Garrosh has to offer from his dark shaman
to his captured dinosaurs, even the minions of the old gods are unable to hold us back
until finally Garrosh is the only one left standing.
He has a vision for his true horde and will stop at nothing at making that vision at reality,
but not even with the powers of an old god is he able to stop the combined might of the
alliance and the horde and the warchief is finally brought low.
"No....it cannot end like this...What I....What I have seen...."
*Garrosh is sleepy now* "You disapoint me, Garrosh.
You are not worthy of your fathers legacy."
CLANG "His punishment is not for you alone to
decide."
"I won't let you take him."
"We have all suffered from his atrocities.
My people more then any other.
Let him stand trial in Pandaria.
There we will meet out justice for all" Mmmmkay
"Look at them.
Already they plot against us.
Sieze this moment Varian, dismantle the Horde."
"GUARDSMEN!"
"Father – What are you doing?"
"What a king must do.
I will speak to your warchief!"
"I speak for the Horde."
Yep it's true, voljin is the warchief "Very well.
The horde has committed heinous crimes Vol'jin.
But some among you fought against Garrosh's tyranny.
For that I am willing to end this bloodshed.
But know this.
If your Horde fails to uphold honor, as Garrosh did....We will end you."
Despite working together for this very moment, when it came down to it neither side was willing
to let the other take the killing blow.
Instead they decide to place him on trial while Varian speaks with the new warchief
Vol'jin and is willing to end the bloodshed.
He explains that the desire to inflict more suffering on the Horde is one that he understands,
but how many more alliance will number among the dead if we invaded Thunder Bluff, Azshara
and the Echo isles/ How we would we govern the conquered people?
Today we've won justice and have given the Horde an oppertunity to atone by supporting
their rebellion.
Further bloodshed would be for vengeance alone – and it would reap vengeance in return.
He'd rather focus on winning the peace, station a garrison near Theramore, investigate
cleansing the plague from Gilnean Lands so they can rebuild and they must contain Sylvanas.
From here on forward, the Alliance will be proactive.
Never again can there be another the likes of Hellscream.
Anduin of course agrees with his father and thinks that replacing a warmonger with a leader
they can work with is their only chance for peace in the future while Jaina is the complete
opposite.
She believes Wrynn will rue the day he allowed the Horde to name another warchief.
We should have kept fighting, who's to say that in a few years, this new warchief won't
get any ideas in his troll head?
It's interesting to see how Jaina embodies what Varian used to be and Anduin what Varian
wants to be, while Anduin in turn is trying to be more like his father.
Either way this concludes the events in Pandaria which leads us to the novel war crimes in
which Garrosh's trial took place.
This book was used as a refreshed on the lore while also wrapping on some of the storylines
that have been going on while also opening the way for the next expansion.
The trial takes place in pandaria with Tyrande as the accuser and Baine trying to defend
Garrosh.
Witnesses are called to stand too which the bronze dragons Chromie and Kairozdormu use
the hour glass of time to show past events to the courtroom, to grant them visions of
the past.
Even Varian was called to be a witness in which they showed the moment of dragging Moira
out of her bed, Anduin talking some sense into him and the formation of the council.
Baine asked the king if he believed people could change.
He was not the man he was several years ago so if he had made those changes, could some
like garrosh?
Too which the king could give no different answer but yes.
Tyrande then questioned him, asked if in his darkest moments he had ever calculatedly planned
and executed a plan to exterminate the entire population of a major city?
No replied Varian too which Tyrande turned around and proclaimed that while King Varian
may indeed have dealt with similar challenges like Garrosh, he is not, has not been, and
will never be the same as Garrosh Hellscream.
Remember how during the wrath of the lich king period these 2 were so very similar and
now look at the path each of them walked.
Varian kept an open mind and listened to those around him and yes also underwent a ritual
to regain control while Garrosh surrounded himself with people that followed his ideas
of the world and anyone that disagreed was either cast out or struck down.
Now there is a fair bit to say about Garrosh and the path that he followed, but perhaps
that's a subject for another day.
The trial reached its end, but the verdict didn't matter since the black dragon Wrathion
and the Bronze Kairozdormu worked together on setting Garrosh free.
Wrathion had seen a vision of the legion returning to azeroth and he wanted nothing more then
to secure the future of the planet and keep it safe.
"You were there!
Is it true then what happened in Orgrimmar?
That fool king!
I did everything in my power.
The whole world was his.
He needed only seize it.
Ow sure another year of fighting, enormous casualties trying to take thunderbluff, but
the rest of the horde would have caved eventually.
Tong, drink, NOW!
What?
Yes, I was backing the alliance.
I thought Hellscream's victory was assured before he turned half the horde against him,
so I changed my allegiance.
Ow don't looks so surprised!
I'm a black dragon, my loyalties are my own.
But that idiot, IDIOT, Wrynn.
High King indeed!
Why did he allow another warchief?
He could have united the world under the alliance banner.
What a fool I was to trust his ambition.
Should have taken over the throne room myself, like auntie onyxia.
Get things done.
HIYA"
And now they decided to take Garrosh back in time , around 35 years from our perspective
to an alternate reality in which the orcs were just about to drink the demon blood offered
by Gul'dan and the Legion.
With Warlords Zaela, who had survived the siege orgrimmar, and the infinite dragonflight
attacking the temple, Kairoz and Garrosh used the hour glass of time and made their escape.
The attack was repelled when Zaela realized their mission of setting garrosh free was
accomplished, but Wrathion's plans didn't go exactly as planned.
Garrosh had not learned a thing over the years, had no intention of leading this alternate
horde in the defense of Azeroth, instead he murdered Kairoz and formed the Iron Horde
not to defend Azeroth, but to attack it.
To conquer it with the horde he invisions, conquer it and make it the world he had dreamed
of.
The Dark portal turned red, the iron horde tried to invade Azeroth and the draenei Maraad
informs Varian about the warlords of our time, the warlords we were about to face.
"King Varian, the hour grows late.
You must sign the declaration of war."
"Sigh, I was just a child when my father rushed to face this same evil.
He didn't understand these warlords at all.
That mistake cost him his life and brought this kingdom to ruin."
"You are not your father."
"I know, but how can I succeed where he failed?"
SMACK "You can start by trusting my council.
I have faced them before."
"On Draenor...You were there, all those years ago."
"Yes...believe me they are not invincible."
"Then tell me of them Maraad, tell me everything."
"Very well..."
Maraad informs the king of what he knows about Kargath Bladefist, Grommash Hellscream, Durotan,
Kilrogg and last but not least, his own history with the Horde and why he so desperately wants
to fight them.
You now know their leaders.
You know what forged them into the monstrosities they have become.
Put your seal on that order and I will be the first to answer the call.
Why are you so eager for this fight, Maraad?
For a paladin, you seem as bloodthirsty as the enemy.
It is not blood I seek.
When you look at me, what do you see?
I see a paragon, a champion of the Light.
What you cannot see is the burden I carry each day."
He was there when the orcs assaulted Shattrath city and he was orderd to take the refugees
to safety.
Instead of fullfilling his mission, he let the burning desire for revenge take hold as
he left the refugees to find their own way so he could go back and murder some orcs.
Satisfied he went back to search for the refugees but found all of them dead on the streets.
The light he had promised would be with them, had forsaken them instead...just as he had...
"I know I may not return.
But if there is even the barest chance of preventing the atrocities I witnessed from
happening again... then I offer myself gladly.
We are all haunted by the past, Maraad.
Few of us ever get the opportunity... to change it.
Varian puts his seal on the declaration of war as the scene shifts to the Stormwind bell
tower, who is ringing in the coming of dawn, and thereafter to the Stormwind army marching
through the Valley of Heroes.
Summon our champions.
Make ready for war.
Azeroth needs its heroes now more than ever."
And so the call went out for Azeroth's champions to venture forth through the dark portal and
take the battle to the Iron Horde.
Both the alliance and horde stood together against the might of the Iron Horde, but Varian
himself didn't play a major part during Warlords of Draenor.
He showed up to congratulate the general on his successes in the campaign and with the
garrison, but as we slowly but surely dismanttled the Iron Horde, alternate Gul' dan saw his
oppertunity and offered the demon blood once more.
This time there was no garrosh to stop the orcs since we had already killed him and Gul'dan
took control of the Iron Horde and turned it into the Fel Horde.
We now had to assault Hellfire Citadel within Tanaan Jungle and Varian showed up to offer
his insight as to what we should do.
A direct assault would take a heavy toll, but the sea lanes were open.
If we would attack by both land and sea, then Gul'dan's Horde would have no quarter.
It's time to build ourselves a shipyard and assault tanaan by sea and establish a
foothold.
"Everything rests upon your shoulders, commander.
Build a navy so we can assault Gul'dan from all sides.
Good luck!"
We did just that, we ventured forth into tanaan jungle, assaulted hellfire citadel itself
and brought down anything and everything Gul'dan had in store for us.
Not even Archimonde himself was strong enough to take us out and we liberated draenor from
the legion's influence.
"Gul'dan, you made a pact....NO!"
However, the whole reason why this connection between Azeroth and alternate draenor came
to be was because of Wrathion and his vision of the Legion coming to take another bite
out of azeroth.
Here we see alternate gul'dan being send over by Archimonde into our world and actually
start the next legion invasion by opening up the gateway at the tomb of sargeras.
By trying to build up an army to fight against it, Wrathion actually caused the next invasion
to happen and it's Khadgar that goes about warning the world of this new threat.
"CLOENK, the Burning Legion....has returned!"
"My son, a terrible darkness has returned to our world.
Thunder
As before, it seeks to annihilate everything that we hold dear.
I go to face it, knowing I may not return.
Screaming, They're coming.
They're coming back!
Ahh got ya compas, ow my god poor anduin...what have they done too you.
All my life I have lived by the sword.
I've seen kingdoms burn, and watched brave heroes die in vain.
Oeeeeee look at that pretty hell we're going too
It's been difficult for me to trust after losing so much.
WASSUP, HORDE REPRESENTING.
But from you I have learned patience, tolerance, and faith.
SWOENG, LETS DO THIS.
Ow my thrall that's a lot of demons.
They're coming in fast and hot OPEN FIRE!
Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to come here with flying ships.
I mean, it might be fast but it's also a bit deadly.
Owww and now there's a fire demon trying to kill me, but hey there's Sylvanas!
PEW PEW PEW Oooow that looks cool, lets work together
SWOENG Die demon.
Yep what did I tell ya, a flying ship was not a good idea.
Alright hold on to your ropes man, tonight...we dine with Azshara.
BAWOESJ.
Everyone is drowning, ooow no not the compass.
Anduin, I now believe as you do, that peace is the noblest aspiration.
But to preserve it, you must be willing to fight!
ROAAAAAAAAAAAAR
Lo'Gash in the houuuuuuuse, die demons dieeeeeeeee
FOR AZEROTH!"
Where during mists of pandaria heroes were send out with an initial strike force, now
it's actually Varian who's leading the alliance attack while Sylvanas windrunner
is leading the Horde.
The high king has learned much and is able to trust and work together with the horde
while the rest of our forces joined them as soon as possible.
On the broken shore they battled their way through ranks upon ranks of demons, trying
to get to the source of the invasion and stop it before it could spread even further.
Tirion Fordring was taken out by Krosus, but by working together the alliance and horde
are able to force the demon to retreat.
It is time for the final confrontation.
"We'll take the ridge and cover your flank."
"Sylvanas, thank you."
"Good luck, Varian."
'And you..."
As the alliance confronts gul'dan directly, the Horde tries to cover their flank but the
forces they face on the ridge are destroying them.
3 legion ships are constantly shooting out their fel beams while demonic forces keep
pooring out of the portal.
"There are too many of them!
Everyone pull back to me, we make our stand here!"
The alliance isn't having any better luck.
Small waves of demons are send at first, but the portal created gives gul'dan access
to the near limitless might of the legion.
We return.
To conquer this puny world.
And burn it to a husk.
This is a legion invasion unlike any we've seen before and although the alliance forces
seem to be vastly outnumbered, Varian still thinks that a victory is possible.
He calls out the orders, but up above Sylvanas and the Horde have a better view of the battle
down below and they're unable to hold their ground.
"Sylvans cinematic – varian cinematic – epic music starts"
omg bats are tossing people from the cliff thrall is litteraly crawling on the ground,
ow damn this doesn't look good They're coming from behind.
Cover da flank!
Joink Warchief!
Get outta here demon, ow snap that hurt...my tusk!
Sylvanas to the rescue, come with me if you want to live
Do not let da Horde die dis day.
Meanwhile for the alliance: Victory is ours, hold fast!
Mekkatorque We finish this now.
Call in the gunship!
Way ahead of you sir, transangulating our position right now hahahaha
Genn...GENN...
My lord!
Push forward Ow snap bat attack
And get Windrunner's archers to clear the skies
Yeah no sorry Varian BWAAAAAAAAAAMP Horde is getting outta here
Bring in the valkyr, it's not like they could be used to ress the fallen soldiers
and turn the tide of battle.
Nope they're only here to get us out of the fight.
BWAAAAAAAAMP No...she wouldn't...
I knew it!
I knew we couldn't trust her.
Uho spaghetio...Atleast the gunship made it.
PEW PEW PEW Without the Horde, we'll be overrun.
We must retreat.
Get everyone to the gun ship.
EVERYONE, FALL BACK Hahahahah you think i'm just going to let
you run?
I'm gul'daniel...darkness incarnate.
Here, have a little felreaver.
Incoming!
Hard to port Ahhhhhhhhh it buuuuurns

LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOY Go go go go go go
JEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENKINS Guys, guys i'm still alive come back!
Come pick me up...
Ah damn it, right time to respect and go ham Roaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar
OW snap they cut me in the back.
Ow snap they cut me again Yargh double stabbed
Res please, healer...anyone?
Ow right i'm alone...
You will be remembered as the king who sacrificed his life...for nothing.
*pant* * Pant* For the alliance....BIATCH Hahahhahaha now buuuuuurn, buuuuuuuurn and
become dust for my enchantment.
SKADOESJ Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
*serious glare* Welp that could have gone better.
Varian Wrynn gave everything he had for the world, for the alliance, for his people and
his son.
Greymane take the letter he wrote back to King Anduin as they all mourn the loss of
a great king.
With the death of the king, a great burden is placed upon anduin's shoulders.
His father was a great strategist, yet his armies crumbled at the broken shores.
How can he succeeed where the wolf had failed, but Velen reasures him that he does not stand
alone in this battle and Tyrande compliments him for his wisdom of accepting the illidari,
illidan's demon hunters, into their ranks who by now have made their way to either the
alliance or the horde.
Jaina however reminds them all of the Horde's treachery.
It's time to bring them to heel like the dogs that they are.
Theramore, Dalaran and now again they're betrayed by the Horde at the broken shore,
but the others don't see it that way.
They can't fight a war at two fronts, they need the Horde's strength in the battle
against the Legion, but Jaina disagrees.
She believes that to fight alongside the cowards who betrayed his father and left them to die
would dishonor everything Varian stood for.
Dalaran will protect the easterns kingdoms, but she will not allow the Horde to set foot
within her city.
With that jaina teleports away and Anduin wonders what to do.
His father is dead, it was a disaster at the Broken shore, people like Greymane and Jaina
are fixed on revenge and everything's falling apart...
What happens next is a story still being told, but Anduin is the son of the Wolf, the son
of Lo'Gosh, High King Varian Wrynn, champion of Goldrinn.
Legends say that Lo'gosh's unyielding will and sheer ferocity enabled him to push
through the boundaries of the afterlife to aide his people.
Who knows what the future might bring, what roll the son of the wolf might play in the
future, but for now this is where the story of Varian ends.
Thank you all so much for watching and I hope that I did the character justice.
Like I always do with these bigger videos, tomorrow I'll be uploading a full version
of the story for those that prefer to watch it in one go and it makes it easier to link
it around.
As always thank you very much for watching everyone!

How PEOPLE are CONTROLLED by CROWD PSYCHOLOGY | The Crowd by Gustave Le Bon - Duration: 4:22.
Gustave Le Bon was an expert in many different subjects from Medicine to Psychology to Physics.
He is best known for his book, The Crowd: A Study Of The Popular Mind, which explained
crowd psychology and why people behave differently in groups.
A crowd is a group of people united by a common ideology, belief or idea.
However, the characteristics of the crowd are far different from the characteristics
of the individuals within it.
Le Bon said that when part of a crowd, the individual becomes less civilised.
Where a person may be cultured outside of a crowd, when part of it they act like a barbarian,
behaving on instinct.
These crowd characteristics are produced by three causes.
By being aware of these causes, techniques can be used to intentionally manipulate crowds
to behave in a particular way.
This has been used in the fields of business and politics in the past, with many questioning
whether it is ethical to do so.
In the summer of 2011, I watched on television as thousands of people rioted in towns and
cities across England for nearly a week.
Many shops and businesses were destroyed as a result of arson and looting.
People behaved like this in a crowd but why did they not behave like that when they're
on their own?
For some it would be a question of morals.
For others, it would simply be due to the fear of being arrested and jailed.
Le Bon argues that when in a crowd, the anonymity that the crowd provides the individual (due
to the large numbers), means that they lose their fear of the consequences as well as
their moral responsibility.
This temporary feeling of invincibility causes them to be unable to restrain certain instincts
that they otherwise would.
In February 2013, a man in China started selling cans of fresh air for $0.80 due to the bad
pollution in the country at the time.
Despite admitting that the canned air was a light-hearted stunt, in ten days he managed
to sell ten million cans.
In a previous video, I spoke about how in the Netherlands in the 1600s, tulips were
seen as a symbol of status.
The value of tulips rose so high that people were spending their life savings on tulip
bulbs simply because everyone else was buying them, which resulted in a large amount of
money lost when the prices eventually crashed.
Both these stories are examples of fads, as a result of contagion.
In a crowd, Le Bon believed that every act is contagious, to a point where an individual
will sacrifice his personal interest for the interest of the crowd.
Fresh air in a can was a nonsensical fad and buying a can of fresh air was a nonsensical
act that an individual would not do on their own.
However, when part of a crowd, even irrational acts become contagious.
The word "Demagogue" was born in ancient Greece.
It comes from the words "demos" meaning the people, and "agogos" meaning leader.
In the 20th century, there are many examples of demagogues who had a powerful influence
over crowds due to suggestibility.
They have transformed a nation of individuals, most of which had no intention of ever murdering
a fellow human being, to act ruthlessly and inhumanely by pushing for brutality.
The mob mentality that arose turned the crowd into a bigoted, vicious and genocidal horde.
Le Bon claimed that after being part of a crowd for a period of time, the individual
enters a state, similar to being hypnotised, where they are mesmerised by the leader of
the crowd.
The power and influence that leaders of these crowds have can lead to terrible atrocities.
The leader can influence the crowd to think and feel a certain way.
The crowd then often turns those thoughts into acts.

U.S., Japan condemn N. Korea's missile launch - Duration: 2:37.
North Korea's missile test may have been conducted to send a strong message to the U.S. and Japan
as President Trump and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe were holding a summit at the time of the
launch.
While it's not uncommon for Pyongyang to carry out provocation at this time of the year,
Seoul's top nuke envoy and his U.S. and Japanese counterparts got together to immediately discuss
appropriate response measures.
For more on the possible motive behind the provocation,... Hwang Hojun reports.
There are several possible reasons why the regime chose to launch a missile on Sunday.
For one, its has a history of using provocations to mark key anniversaries, such as the birthday
of its late leader Kim Jong-il, coming up in a few days.
Its third nuclear test came on exactly three years ago.
But experts say North Korea may have seen an extra excuse to lash out... given the state
of geopolitics,... and a key diplomatic summit that took place this weekend.
"As you know, the U.S. has Donald Trump as its new president.
China and the U.S. are butting heads.
Russia is a loose cannon...
And the US-Japan summit is taking place as we speak.
Pyongyang's missile launch is a message about all of those things."
The missile was launched a day after President Trump confirmed America's commitment to the
security of Japan during the summit meeting in Palm Beach, Florida, with Japanese Prime
Minister Shinzo Abe.
In a joint press conference with President Trump, the Japanese leader condemned North
Korea's actions.
"North Korea's most recent missile launch is absolutely intolerable.
North Korea must fully comply with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions"
"Thank you very much, Mr. Prime Minister.
I just want everybody to understand and fully know that the United States stands behind
Japan, it's great ally, 100 percent.
Thank you."
Meanwhile, South Korea's representative to the six-party nuclear talks, Kim Hong-kyun,
held separate telephone talks with his U.S. and Japanese counterparts, Joseph Yun and
Kenji Kanasugi, respectively, and discussed ways to deal with the latest provocation.
According to Seoul's foreign ministry, the three nuclear envoys agreed to work closely
together to craft a coordinated response based on the understanding that a strong response
is needed given that Sunday's missile launch was Pyongyang's first provocation this year.

Transformational building design energizes water recycling--literally! - Science Nation - Duration: 3:56.
Maria Paz Gutierrez: What matters to you is exactly
that boundary condition, where the…
Miles O'Brien: Architect Maria Paz Gutierrez
is a woman on a mission.
Maria Paz Gutierrez: Can you show me a bit of what you're working on?
Student: Sure. Miles O'Brien:
Not just to mentor a new generation of students here
at the University of California, Berkeley,
but to design a new generation of affordable,
sustainable building technologies aimed at conserving
an increasingly precious resource - water.
Maria Paz Gutierrez: So this research began
by trying to address a very key environmental
and socioeconomic and cultural issue
that we face today,
which is the issue of water scarcity
around the world. Miles O'Brien:
Right now an average family of four in the U.S. uses
more than 250 gallons of clean water per day.
Most of it goes right back out to the sewer.
More than half of THAT is so-called "greywater."
Maria Paz Gutierrez: Greywater is all the water
that we have used for activities with the exception
of water from toilet flushing,
and in some parts of the world
also the water from kitchen sinks.
Student: When some of them were like shifted this way a little bit…
Miles O'Brien: With support from
the National Science Foundation,
this team is working to develop solar panels like these,
designed to mount on the side of a building
and take greywater recycling to a new level.
And they're designed to be multipurpose too.
The water that flows through them will be heated
by the sun during the day,
and then circulate through the building
to warm it when it's cold.
Maria Paz Gutierrez: Here you see we will collect
the grey water through the day.
It's filtered and then
it's brought into these facades within a panel.
It's warm through the day, and then we reuse it.
So pass it on under the slabs of the floors
and then use it as thermal energy. Miles O'Brien:
The key is low-cost "photocatalytic"
disinfection technology.
Glass surfaces inside the panels
which can look like spheres, or louvers,
are coated with nanoparticles
that chemically react to sunlight.
The process generates molecules called
"O-H radicals"
that kill microbes, like E.
coli.
The processed greywater isn't clean enough to drink,
but fine for flushing toilets,
or washing clothes.
Slav Hermanowicz: Many people consider water
in the 21st Century
to be an equivalent of oil in the 20th Century.
Miles O'Brien: Environmental engineer Slav Hermanowicz
and his students are building panel prototypes
that they test in the lab and also outdoors.
Slav Hermanowicz: Instead of using water only once --
that's the norm in pretty much all developed world --
we want to use it at least twice.
And in this way we can cut the water demand,
we can use solar energy which is free,
and we can also potentially capture
that energy for other usage. Miles O'Brien:
Gutierrez says this technology
could be ready for commercialization
within the decade at a price point
that would be practical for use
in water-stressed areas
all around the globe.
Maria Paz Gutierrez: The end user will benefit
because we'll pay less money
in electricity, in the water usage.
The city will have savings
because you'll have less water to treat.
The environment will benefit
because we're not going to be contaminating aquifers.
So there are advantages that works across scales,
from the local to the global scale.
Miles O'Brien: Engineering sustainable communities
using the energy of the sun
to conserve water and generate power.
We can all take a shine to that.
For Science Nation, I'm Miles O'Brien.
