Youtube daily report w Aug 30 2017

Well good morning good morning.

Today we are here at Kings Cross station and we are going on yet another day trip.

Another one.

Where are we off to?

Another day trip from London.

We're off to Cambridge today.

Yes.

And yes, it is Sunday morning and we've arrived at the station nice and early yet again.

We sure have.

We have about 45 minutes to spare.

We've already printed off our tickets.

So yeah, we're just going to wander around and uh then we'll be hopping on the train

shortly.

So aside from just transportation and taking the train a lot of people come here to visit

the Harry Potter attraction.

Platform 9 3/4.

However, our destination today is not Hogwarts.

Where are we off to?

We're off to Cambridge.

There are a number of trains from Kings Cross to Cambridge with journeys ranging from 45

minutes to a little over an hour and a half.

Buying your ticket in advance is always a good idea as you can get a better price, and

it's also wise to travel off peak.

Alright, we've arrived and it was an absolute zoo getting off at the station.

Like apparently we're not the only ones visiting today on a Sunday.

Beautiful weather though and the journey was only 45 minutes and we forgot to tell you

how much we paid.

So this ticket was only 16 pounds and we booked it very last minute.

I think less than 48 hours because we wanted to make sure there was nice weather today

and there is so we're happy.

So the first logical stop along the way is the Botanical Gardens.

Yeah.

So we paid our admission.

It is 5.50 per person.

Got a little map so let's go wander around.

If you decide to walk into town like we did, Cambridge University Botanic Garden makes

for a nice little stop, especially if you want to stretch you legs after the train ride.

The garden has over 8000 species, and my personal highlight was the beautiful glasshouse which

is home to some exotic tropical plants.

So what did you learn today already?

Okay so we're visiting a little garden where the plants tell time.

And they have like a few different flowers where the flower opens in the morning like

at sunrise and closes at sunset.

But they also have one flower that only opens at night so that is kind of cool.

It is a night owl.

Okay so it is lunchtime for us and we've walked over to the Regal.

Apparently this used to be a hotel, then a cinema and now it is a pub.

So yeah, it is a pretty cool spot.

I've ordered breakfast and Sam is having lunch.

I'm waiting for my eggs benedict and I think you're having a Steak and Ale Pie?

And a pint of Guinness.

A pint of Guinness.

So when in doubt I tend to order Guinness and I always think of a Guinness basically

as being a meal in a glass.

It is very filling.

And my steak and ale pie has arrived.

And I'm really excited about this.

This is something I've wanted to have for a while since we've been back in the UK and

I just haven't.

So it also comes this is obviously the pie but it also comes with if you look down here

with the mushy peas and we have chips.

Fries.

And some gravy so you can either pour I think you can either pour the gravy on top of the

pie or you can use it to dip for the fries.

Dissection.

And that is what the pie looks like when you split it open.

You can see all of the there is meat, gravy and it has got like a flaky exterior.

Ah, it is going to be good.

Exciting times.

Alright, I'll just dig in.

So let's break into that.

I want to get a bit of the crust but also I see a big chunk of meat too.

Mmmm.

Absolutely delicious.

Well somebody looks happy over there.

Here we go.

Breakfast for lunch today.

Breakfast for lunch.

And I'm having lunch for breakfast I suppose.

Check it out.

Eggs Benedict.

We're kind of in the gray zone where it is in between breakfast and lunch.

Yeah, it is about 11:30 so yeah.

Get what you want, right?

Yep.

Mmmm.

Nice?

Woah!

That was a filling lunch.

It sure was.

Brunch slash lunch I suppose you could say.

And it was really affordable too.

It was only 13 quid and yeah we're both satisfied, full and now we're ready to finally explore.

Feeling stuffed from that pub fare, we started making our way into town, and it wasn't

long before we came across the River Cam which was teaming with punters.

Some made it look easy, while others were struggling, but we had a different idea and

decided to go visit one of the colleges.

As a fun fact: The University of Cambridge was founded in 1209, just a few decades after

Oxford University, making it the second oldest university in the English-speaking world.

It is divided into 31 independent colleges, and our first one of the day was Queens College.

So we have just paid our admission fee to visit the Queens College and that was 3.50

per person and what makes this college so special is that this is where Erasmus of Rotterdam

studied.

And also this is the only college in Cambridge that boasts a half timbered building still

standing right behind me.

So one cool thing we've noticed both here in Cambridge and in Oxford is that a lot of

travelers don't seem to be willing to pay to visit the colleges.

And it is so cheap.

It is usually just like 2 to 3 pounds.

Sometimes 5 pounds if it is a really famous one.

But once you pay and you go in you find that the colleges almost empty and you have like

these beautiful university grounds all to yourself.

So easily the most popular thing to do here in Cambridge aside from of course exploring

the University is to go punting.

And it is like a full contact sport it is very crowded out there.

Oh yeah.

So next up we're inside the Great Saint Mary's Church and we're going to be climbing the

tower because apparently these are the best views of all of Cambridge.

And we like to climb towers.

Apparently we do.

We've been doing that a lot lately.

The spiralling staircase is quite narrow and it has to accommodate traffic going up and

down, which requires being a contortionist at times, but that's how you earn those

views!

Okay, so we made it up and we made it down.

We sure did.

And we're both feeling a little under the weather today.

Oh man.

I have a sore throat and my body is kind of aching like an 80 year old.

So it is a bit of a climb to go up.

Very crowded.

There were a lot of people but the views were absolutely worth it and we paid 3.50 to go

up so yeah it was good value.

We got a great view of the city.

Okay, so next up we are doing Trinity College and this is the largest college here at Cambridge

University and also it was founded by Henry VIII and Sam and I what show did we just finish

watching?

We just finished watching the Tudors.

The Tudors.

It was really good.

Four seasons on Netflix and there were actually mostly Irish actors but they did a really

good job.

Yeah.

We learned a lot about the history.

Now we know all about Henry VIII rule and it was scary stuff.

And his 6 wives.

His 6 wives.

Alrighty then.

That is basically it for our little travel guide from Cambridge.

Mini travel guide.

Mini travel guide.

Seriously, I feel like we barely put a dent in Cambridge.

Yep.

But yeah, we are back at the station just waiting for our train now back to London and

yeah I mean that was a nice day trip but at the same time we are both so sick and like

lethargic that we were just like dragging our bodies around town.

I've actually like my condition has been upgraded to a pretty bad fever right now.

I feel pretty crap to be honest but anyways it was a good trip we soldiered on what got

we finished everything we wanted to do.

Yeah.

But kind of like Oxford I would suggest maybe coming for overnight.

A night or two.

Yeah, come for a bit longer and during the week.

We're here on a Sunday.

Yes.

It was a zoo.

It was so packed.

It was too busy.

It was almost a little hard to walk around.

It was even busy coming over on the train this morning it was just a little overwhelming.

But yeah, come on a weekday and I mean this is the middle of the summer on a weekend so

what can you expect.

So yeah we're going to hop on the train, have a siesta and I think our next video is going

to be coming to you from Wales.

That is right.

Bye.

Tata.

And we'll leave you with some train clips.

Head To Head - Armpits Pt. 2: Elimination Tattoo | Ink Master: Shop Wars (Season 9) - Duration: 4:50.

- All right, guys,

You have six hours to tattoo the right armpit.

And your time starts now.

- Yeah, like that. - So look at me.

- There's a lot of strategy in this competition right now.

- Was that how they placed it yesterday?

- Yeah. - If a team wins both their

head-to-heads, they're obviously gonna be in the top.

There might be another team that has one

really, really strong tattoo, but if the other one loses,

they could be in the bottom. - Rock and roll.

- That outline better be perfect.

- Don't stress me out. It's gonna be perfect.

- Just make it perfect. - It will be.

It will be. - Katie set the bar pretty high.

So Erin needs to execute this thing flawlessly.

- This is [bleep] boring, dude. - Welcome to my yesterday.

Worst case scenario, I wobble one line, done.

Katie designed it. Katie nailed the line work.

And if I do one wobble, one transition,

one piece of saturation not to the line...

That's it. It's over. No line left behind.

- Those are perfect. It's got to be perfect.

- I know. It will be.

- I feel like we should bring that beard

down a little bit so it matches, right?

- That's the only thing that I noticed.

- I have never tattooed the armpit.

One of my biggest concerns with this particular piece

is the straight lines in the wrench.

They have to be so on point, and one pass.

If I have any blowouts on it, we're gonna be ruined.

I think my concentration today is line work.

Four hours to go, kids.

Four more hours.

- Did it line up okay? - Yeah, it lined up great.

- Cool. - Erin is a great artist,

so it's good to know I have a good roadmap,

and I don't have to worry about anything being messed up.

I didn't realize that this would

be directly putting us head to head with Unkindness.

- So at first I thought the whole goal of the second tattoo

was just to match the tattoo that was done yesterday.

And then I kind of realized

that me and Doom are going head to head.

Whoops.

- What's going on?

- I used Tommy's drawing as a base,

and I messed with the shape a lot.

- Why'd you use his? - I thought that he'd drawn it

to fit that space, and he hadn't.

His side was super gnarly,

so I wanted to make this side

just a little gnarlier

than what he had drawn it.

- And now you've got to keep up with that one.

- Oh, I know.

I am definitely nervous about this tattoo.

It's a very high-risk move on my part,

because it is extremely detailed.

And I'm just worried the judges are not gonna think

it's dynamic enough to compete against Marv's.

- Who do you think looks the closest right now?

- Closest to each other?

These guys and them. - Yeah.

But it's not about who's doing okay,

it's about who ain't gonna make it.

- Eva's still looks terrible. - Yes.

- So far, Ulyss's outline, it's not looking too bad.

- He's killing it. It looks better that Doom's outline.

- Doom's outline is terrible.

- Two hours to go.

- There's a couple technical things,

as far as, like, the lines.

- This tattoo is looking bad-ass.

I don't think this canvas is anywhere near as bad

as Allegory was making it sound to be.

- I love how crispy clean that is.

I want you to completely destroy this.

- Well, what's a better way to get somebody

than go right at them at their own game?

- That red is [bleep] throwing me off.

I might have you sit back down.

I keep thinking I'm done with this guy,

and every time he stands up

and I look at it in the mirror,

I can see the parts that don't look finished to me.

I'd have been done a while back

if it weren't for the stretch marks, ,man.

- I just like checking out everybody's setup here.

- Noelin had a way more simple piece.

Bubba's piece is way more dynamic.

- Sorry, man, I keep staring.

- He could take the win on this one.

- Five, four, three, two, one.

That's it. Machines down.

Time is up. No more ink.

- Yeah, that's it.

- Check it out. - Yes!

- Nice.

- She's got it on the picture, I was like, damn.

- That outline's [bleep]ed.

- It's gonna come down to teams

and how they did together.

The only one that I've seen

that really blatantly had glaring errors was Eva's.

0 Did nobody tell her besides me that it looked jacked up?

- Pretty sure I just kicked her ass.

I don't think there's gonna be any question

when the judges see me and hers together.

I ain't worried.

No way.

Peach Monochromatic Makeup Tutorial | Makeup Looks For Summer - Duration: 4:31.

hey guys welcome to the cult curator where I help you navigate the overwhelming

world of beauty one tutorial at a time my name is Sonya and in today's

video I'm gonna be showing you how to get this peachy monochromatic makeup

look so if you'd like to see how I put it all together then keep on watching

alright so the first thing that I'm going to do is take to make a piece of

peach smoothie and run that through the crease I'm just taking this from the

outer corner to the inner corner using a morphe m412 watt brush to create a

really blown out by shadow

next I'm going to go with Poppy which is a really pretty great peachy pink color

from makeup geek and I'm just taking that on a flat eyeshadow brush and I'm

just putting this all over the lid from the inner corner to the other corner

with this color and first patting the eyeshadow onto my lid and then blending

it out by pulling it back a little bit that way you don't get as much fall out

of my face because I did or even do a face makeup and then when I get into the

crease I'm just moving the brush around to help

blend into patient maybe a little bit and if you need to you to help with one

day take a little bit of peach smoothie increase again and you can see that I

left a little space in the outer corner I'm gonna actually go into the more to

unite the blush palette and take this peachy blush shade in the middle row and

apply that into the outer corner to help blend it out and create a nice gradient

effect there's a very subtle difference between this color and coffee as you can

see it's not super noticeable on the eye but it is a little bit more pink than

Papias and I just think instead of going in

with a darker color in the outer corner I wanted to go with something that was a

little bit lighter and create that nice gradient effect

on the iron wire next we're going to dip back into the morphine I'd be pellet

using this darker blush shade and I'm going to take my ELF flat eyeliner brush

tip to find my upper lash line and with this I'm kind of wiggling with a brush

into the lash line to create some definition in that area I don't want a

harsh line I just want to create a nice blended smoked out effect on the lash

line without going for a dark color like a blocker of brown or anything now I'm

going to move on to lower lash line and I'm going to mix copy and the original

blush shade that we use on the lid and take that all the lower lash line

and then I'm going to take that darker color gun and run that phone's lash line

to find that all sale so this is the I finished now I'm going to highlight my

inner corner in the brow bone using my wet and wild to mega glow highlighting

powder and precious petals I use this on my face and I want to keep the

monochromatic look going with a highlight as well so I'm just use this

those areas okay I'm just going to curl my lashes apply some mascara and falsies

and I will be right back alright so the eyes are finished

I used the andrey s style 9et lashes which I absolutely love this is actually

my first time wearing them and they're so fluttery and pretty and they're super

lightweight and perfect for daytime so I think they work really well this little

good now we're going to move on to lips and for that I'm going to be using this

wet and wild megalast liquid cat suit in nudist peach which will complement the

eyes really nicely because it has that peachy tone to it alright so this is the

finished look I personally love monochromatic makeup looks because I

feel like they're so easy to do they're so pretty at the same time and the cheat

mmm this really make it a perfect makeup look for summer

alright guys that does it for this video I hope you enjoyed it if you did don't

forget to give it a thumbs up and if you're new to my channel and you'll make

up don't forget subscribe so that you don't miss out on any of my tips and

tricks that you can easily add to your makeup routine that is it for this video

but I post every Tuesday and Thursday so stay tuned for the next one bye

you

Can I use Mod Podge?

Can I leave it clear underneath?

I'll be answering these questions along with giving you some tips to help you get

the kind of cracks you want.

All the materials that I used for this DIY are listed in the description below.

Let's get started!

To start off, make sure whatever piece of glass, you're going to be working on, is clean

and dry.

Using a pouncer brush and matte white acrylic paint, give the whole bottle a coat and let

that dry.

I set mine in front of a small fan so it can dry quicker.

you can use a regular paint brush if you'd like, I personally prefer a pouncer brush

as it covers better and doesn't leave any brush marks.

Saving you paint and time. and the matte white paint acts as a primer, so it also saves you

paint plus makes the color you put onto pop more.

Add a coat of the dark color that will be showing through the cracks and let that dry.

Can you leave it clear underneath?

Yes, you most certainly can.

Just skip the first two steps and go right to creating the crackle.

I'll get into more detail about the crackle later in the video but for now, this is the

basic process.

Brush the Elmer's glue on a section of the bottle.

Using a separate brush, place the paint on top.

I was just demonstrating on this bottle so I used a bunch of colors but it ended up looking

really cool!

Immediately after the paint is on, place it in front of a fan or use a hair dryer on the

cool setting and dry it.

The faster it dries the more cracks you'll get.

Continue this process until the whole bottle is covered.

This is what it will look like when it's all done and dry.

Add lights to this bottle and look how beautiful it looks.

I absolutely love how this bottle looks, this was supposed to be just an example bottle

but I'm totally keeping this one!

I just used a small flashlight I had but you can get battery powered string lights and

put them in the bottle.

Or buy a button light and place the bottle on top.

I think that's what I'm going to do.

Okay back to the first bottle, while the dark paint layer is drying, you want to start preparing

the paper napkin.

I used this pretty lilac with greens and purples in it.

I cut the napkin into fours…

then I cut out all the designs I wanted to use from each one.

I only cut three out of the four you see at first.

So I cut the rose,

then the butterfly, both using scissors.

I used scissors because these are nice defined designs.

Now you'll see me using a thin paint brush and water to get the rest of the designs.

I do this so it doesn't leave a solid line that will look awful once it's on the bottle.

Once you have all the designs you want all cutout, slightly wet your fingertips in water,

press the napkin in-between as you see here and, remove the plies of paper.

This napkin had two.

Now it's time to crackle this bottle.

Use two different paint brushes.

You see one is more soft and the other is more like a house painting brush.

when you buy a pack of brushes, look for one that has that one in it.

I find that that one works best for the glue.

Have your Elmer's glue and the paint that you will be using ready to go.

Using that bristly brush, load it with the Elmer's glue and coat a section of the bottle.

You want to do this process as fast as you can because you don't want the glue to start

drying before you put the paint over it.

I didn't put too think of a layer or too thin.

It was in between.

Can you use Mod Podge?

No, this will only work with white school glue.

It doesn't have to be the Elmer's brand but it has to be white school glue.

PVA glue.

I previously thought that the Elmer's Glue all was the only one that works but I used

both and they both cracked.

Depending on how thick you put this on, will determine how big, the cracks will get.

This is not necessarily a good thing.

If it's too thick the glue will take longer to dry so the weight of the glue will keep

pulling at the crack.

Leaving a stretched out crack

I did this layer in between thickness.

So not so thick but not so thin.

Take the other brush and load it with the paint.

The trick to this is I lightly laid the paint on the glue.

You don't want to press hard, Just let the brush glide.

You'll feel what I'm talking about.

When you feel like the brush is no longer gliding lightly, Load it up again.

Do not try and spread the paint like you would other wise.

Drag until, like I side you feel it's time to reload the brush.

You see that right there, that is a perfect example.

Do not overwork the paint and try covering the section in the least amount of storks

possible.

When you're done... immediately place in front of a fan, or use a hair dryer, on the

cool setting, to dry it.

This is the key to the cracks right here!

You must use something to dry it.

It will not work correctly just by air drying it.

If You're wondering why I never mentioned this before well, I didn't mention it because

I've always used a fan to dry my bottles faster.

So I never tried it with out it.

When people were telling me it wasn't working I was perplexed as it was working just fine

for me.

It only dawned on me when I was testing the other Elmer's glue.

The one labeled washable school glue.

I thought it had something to do with that.

I thought it could only be the Elmer's Glue All but that couldn't be farther from the

truth.

When I tested it, because I wasn't doing a project I didn't set it in front of the

fan.

I left the room and did some house work.

When I got back it looked a hot mess and I thought I had figured it out.

Well when I went to record and show you guys why it wasn't working for you, I used the

fan, except I was shocked because it worked!

So that's when I realized that it wasn't the difference in what bottle of Elmer's glue

you used, it was how fast you could dry it that did!

I apologize to those of you who tried and couldn't get it.

Please try it again the way I have shown you here and I promise it will work!

See I did this section with this one and now I'm going to do the other section with the

other one.

I went pretty thick in this section to show you the cracks you get with this thickness

of glue.

I'm not a huge fan of those giant cracks but I wanted to demonstrate them.

Now I'm going to do the last section using a thin layer of glue, let that dry and finish

the top of the bottle the same way.

This is the whole bottle done and here you can see where I went heavy with the glue versus

where I went lighter with it.

The lightest is my favorite one by far.

I like these cracks the best.

Note that you can't control all of the cracks, no matter how much glue you put, you might

get a big crack somewhere or not enough cracks somewhere else, but you can control it enough

that it gets the look you're going for.

Now it's time to decoupage the paper napkin designs onto the bottle.

Using Mod Podge and a brush, I placed glue on the section I was going to place the napkin,

place the napkin and using a crumpled up piece of plastic wrap, I lightly smooth out the

wrinkles.

Cover that with more Mod Podge and always go from the center, outward.

Place all your designs where you want them using this same method.

If you are new to decoupaging, let each one dry before placing the next so you don't

mess it up.

Once they're all on, I used three paint colors that matched the napkin and randomly smudged

it all over the bottle to make the bottle look really old and vintage.

Let that dry and seal it with whatever sealer you like.

These are my favorites at this time.

I used the polycyclic spray for this bottle.

Seal it and let it completely dry!

And here's the finished bottle!

I hope that this tutorial was helpful and that I was able to answer some of your questions.

If you are one of the people having trouble with this, please give it another go, it will

work!

It's really an easy thing once you've got the hang of it.

If you do try it please show me!

I really love seeing what you guys make.

Live Inspired. Vlog Episode #137: You Have No Idea (Standing Up to Bullies) - Duration: 4:41.

Well, hello my friends!

This is John O'Leary.

And what a joy it is to be with you on this gorgeous Wednesday morning.

Today I want to talk to you about standing up to bullies.

This will be a message that may be appropriate for your kids in grade school, middle school,

high school, or college might receive.

And I think it's one that each and every one of us at any age in life, regardless of the

opportunities or challenges before us today might also benefit from receiving.

When I was in high school, pretty normal life, but there was one guy- pretty big, tough,

mean, football player- who loved to make fun, of all things- ready for it?- my hands.

For those of you who don't know my story well, I'm 9 years old when I get burned on 100%

of my body, and one of the things that was taken from me were my fingers.

And this guy, junior year of high school, decides to make fun of my hands.

Not once, or twice, but day after day.

Then week after week.

Then month after month.

And no one does the right thing.

No one with love and compassion stands up and takes a stand.

And then one day, in history class junior year- Mr. Sutherland's class- the smallest

kid in our entire class stands up.

You never know who's going to be the one, do you?

The smallest kid stands, he walks back, he points down at the big tough bully, and then

he says these words (listen to them):

"Dude!

Dude!

SHUT UP!

You have no idea what this kid's been through.

Shut up!

Shut up!"

When the big dude, this big muscular football player, the popular guy, heard what the little

guy with very little muscle tone and very small network said, what do you think the

big guy did?

When I ask kids, when I speak to audiences made up of kids, they almost always say, "I

bet the big guy punches the little guy."

But my friends, what the big guy did is almost always what they do when they see examples

of real courage, real compassion, real grace, real love around them.

Almost always.

What the big guy did is he put his hands together on his desk, he put his head down, and he

never once said a negative word against me or anybody else in our junior year of high

school or anybody else for the remainder of our time in that school.

During these days that are full of some bullies around us in schools, in our work environments,

in our healthcare systems, in our communities, in our global marketplaces, what is so important

I think is not to shy away from it, it's not to bury our heads in the sand,

I think it's to actually have the audacity to stand up, to make a stand, to do the right

thing, to walk to the back of the classroom, to point down, and to speak truth:

"Dude!

Shut up!

Shut up!

You have no idea what that kid has been through.

Shut up!"

It takes courage, it takes understanding, it takes compassion to speak these words,

and yet my friend, I think it also sets free not only the person who decides to boldly

share them, but also the one lucky enough to hear them.

Let's make sure we say those words (maybe not verbatim, shut up!), but that we speak

them in tones that are loving, and full of compassion, and full of truth, full of ways

to wake people up so that they can understand they don't understand, they can't comprehend

what someone else has been through.

But they can choose today to seek, to place their feet in two shoes that are different

than their own, into lives, into skin tone, into racial and political and geopolitical

systems that are different than their own in order to wake up from their own perspective,

in order to take on the lens of someone else.

I think what we need is a coming together, and what better opportunity is there than

right now, TODAY, on this Wednesday morning.

So my friends, for this time and until next time,

Dude!

Dude!

Wake up!

This is your day.

Why Kim Jong Un Isn't Afraid of Donald Trump |News General - Duration: 8:33.

Why Kim Jong Un Isn't Afraid of Donald Trump

ost Americans think North Korea is a crazy place, led by a crazy man bent on global destruction.

This view, of course, is almost completely wrong and explains in part why the current public discussion about what to do with a nuclear North Korea is so unsatisfying.

Far from crazy, Kim Jong Un has been methodical and careful enough in advancing his nuclear and missile programs to suggest that he is deterred by America's overwhelming military capabilities, and at the very least is not eager to spark a military conflict—at least not yet.

But what does Kim think of us? If we are going to continue to rely, as we have for decades, on deterrence to prevent a major conflict on the Korean Peninsula, it helps to know both a little about who we are trying to deter and what our deterrence partner thinks about America.

As a senior director in the Obama White House charged with coordinating nonproliferation policy, I thought about this question a lot as we tried to ensure our actions and words intended to influence North Korea would send the right deterrent and diplomatic messages to Pyongyang.

After almost 30 years of efforts to prevent a nuclear North Korea, we have demonstrated some patterns; patterns that Kim relies on to guide his decision-making, just as we have come to rely on his patterns to inform ours.

We began working to prevent a nuclear North Korea in the late 1980s, and since then five America presidents have tried without final success to achieve this goal. And, to be blunt, the picture these patterns paint is pretty disappointing.

Here are a few key lessons we have to assume Kim lives by based on what we have said and done over the last three decades:. ***.

First, America wants a deal. The United States says it is unacceptable for us to have a nuclear weapon, but they seem to be accepting it.

We are still here. After we were caught having lied about nuclear material production in the early 1990s, Washington imposed some sanctions, but then they cut a deal.

After we cheated on that deal, America imposed some sanctions but came back in 2005 and again tried to cut a deal. After we tested nuclear weapons in 2006, America imposed some more sanctions, but still offered to talk.

Even during the Obama years, America said they'd talk as long as we agreed it was about denuclearization. So, America wants a deal, and all we have to do is wait them out until we can get one we like.

Our negotiating leverage goes up every day. Second, America says our isolation is getting worse, but more and more money keeps coming in.

China keeps buying coal, our workers keep going to Africa and Asia and sending money home, our arms sales in Africa and elsewhere are bringing in big money.

Yes, sanctions may hurt us here and there, but we are in much better shape than we were just a decade ago.

So why stop now? China may have to approve some new sanctions now and again, but we have enough deals under the table to make it work.

Third, America talks about military options, but they are not going to start a war with us. Not on purpose anyway.

If they did not attack us when we didn't have nuclear weapons and missile that could reach them, they are not going to do it now.

The world's largest economy is not going to risk it all to destroy little ol' us. And South Koreans are rich. They won't let the U.S. attack if it means their destruction.

If we just keep pushing ahead step by step, we can continue to perfect our weapon systems and we can then start to think about that deal they seem to want so badly. Fourth, America is losing ground in the region.

They can talk about a pivot to Asia all they want, but as time goes on, China gets stronger and South Korea and Japan are going to have to decide which side they are on.

China is not going anywhere, and neither are we. Even if the long-term trend takes decades, we have time.

China has made clear our collapse is a bigger concern than our provocations. We are only getting stronger as America loses ground to China and their alliances show more and more stress.

If we can help that process along, so much the better. Lastly, if we give up our nuclear weapons we have nothing left. America cut a deal with Muammar al-Qaddafi to give up his weapons, and look at Libya now.

Iraq's Saddam Hussein actually stopped developing weapons, and they regime-changed him. With nuclear weapons, I control my destiny. Without them, I am toast.

Do we know Kim believes these things? No. I am guessing, albeit based on decades of experience watching the North Korean regime and worrying about its nuclear program.

No high-ranking American has ever had a sustained conversation with North Korea's leader. And between us, I am not taking Dennis Rodman's word for anything.

So perhaps Kim is cowering in his palace? Maybe he is just waiting for the right day to announce a forceful reunification with South Korea and bet that we don't do anything to interfere.

It would be good to find out. And that, as much as almost anything besides preventing miscommunication and miscalculation leading to war, seems as good reason as any to talk to the North sooner rather than later.

Kim has learned plenty from us in his short life, and probably absorbed plenty of advice from his late father.

He is likely to view Donald Trump much like his predecessors—as a president who doesn't like North Korea's nuclear capabilities but with few realistic options for stopping it.

Maybe this new one talks louder, and might take more risks, but with a new, less pliable government in South Korea, the current trajectory looks a whole lot like the past.

It's too late to change these lessons, even if we were trying to do so. War with North Korea would be horrific. No sane person would provoke it. And despite the conventional view, Kim is not crazy.

He actually seems to have read us pretty well, perhaps better than the current government realizes.

Jon Wolfsthal is senior advisor to Global Zero and a fellow at Harvard University. He is the former special assistant to the president and senior director for nonproliferation and arms control at the Obama White House.

He was the U.S. government's on-site monitor at North Korea's nuclear facility in 1995-96.
