Next, on HIKI NŌ, stories from across our island chain.
You could read a book on how to start a brand, but that doesn't really apply to a Hawai'i
person with a Hawai'i brand.
Two local fashion veterans give young Hawai'i designers real-world, hands-on experience
in starting their own businesses.
Plus, a vice principal with a reputation for being tough reveals her true nature.
Learn how to build an aquaponics garden in five simple steps.
Hear the innermost thoughts of a student as she explores her own personal truth.
See how students with and without special needs learn how to bond.
And experience the chicken-skin effect of hearing an entire school cheer in unison.
You'll also learn the ins and outs of the dress codes for the schools that participated
in this episode of The Nation's First Statewide Student News Network,
HIKI NŌ.
Can do.
We're here on the campus of Sacred Hearts Academy, located in the Kaimuki District of
O'ahu.
You might recognize the Academy's uniform: It's
blue and white, and looks somewhat like a sailor's outfit.
But this getup is actually inspired by our school's European founders.
It's a French-influence uniform that comes in many pieces, including arm cuffs,
a dickey, tie and a pleated blue skirt.
When it's time to dress up for mass and special events, students
get classy, donning their white skirts instead.
And as intricate as this may sound, the Lancer ladies
do get to wind down a bit with optional Friday attire,
swapping out skirts for khaki shorts and dark blue polos.
With more on clothing and fashion, our HIKI NŌ reporters dive into The Collective, a
boutique owned by a pair of fashionistas, including an Academy
alumna, who are changing the world of fashion one stitch at
a time.
Step into The Collective at Ward Warehouse, and you'll find a boutique filled with clothing
made right here in Hawaii.
No, wait, this one-
I like that one.
Take this one.
Behind the counter, you'll likely see co-owners Allison Izu Song and Summer Shiigi hard at
work on their next collections.
I do separates, so tops, bottoms, dresses, jackets.
Kind of this mix of sophisticated contemporary modern feeling with island vibes.
But beyond the draped fabrics and sleek labels, the business plays a role crucial to Hawaii's
evolving fashion scene.
We opened it up before to other brands to come in and use our space.
And now, we kind of transitioned it into more of a mentoring and consulting space.
They offer advice to young fashion design students and emerging business owners, forming
a truly unique collective.
It's a jumpsuit gown.
Oh, is it?
Yeah.
The most important thing is to give them a real idea of what it takes to run a business
here in Hawai'i.
And Allison and I are both small businesses, and there's so much that we do that's hands-on,
so we can give them a little bit of everything along
the way from production, designing, marketing.
You could read a book on how to start a brand, but that doesn't really apply to a Hawai'i
person with a Hawai'i brand.
Today, they're working with Danika Hazzard, a fashion student and Collective intern.
A really cool idea that they have here, helping other businesses and having this retail space
mixed with their design space.
[INDISTINCT]
And I thought that, you know, doing an internship here could really help my own business, too,
to learn the whole process from designers who already
starting a small business.
Hazard makes reversible handmade bikinis, but says there's still so much to learn.
Just learning the whole design process, you know, really is cool for me, because I've
been teaching myself.
Oh, this one is [INDISTINCT], yeah.
It's nice to be able to give feedback on not just how to do it, but you know, what mistakes
I made along the way and how I can kinda hopefully steer
other people from not making those mistakes.
Managing their own businesses while mentoring others can be tricky.
But Song and Shiigi say working with aspiring designers is a refreshing part
of their day.
[LAUGHTER]
Seeing what their point of view is, and how they come into this industry with fresh eyes
is really nice.
And while building a brand in Hawai'i might not be easy, it can be done, with the right
mindset.
I hope that they want to continue if their passion is there, because there are days when
it's really difficult, and you want to give up.
'Cause I [INDISTINCT] her this way.
And so, if you love it, and you love what you're doing, you'll wake up every morning
and you'll continue to do it.
This is Kayla Manz from Sacred Hearts Academy, for HIKI NŌ.
We're on the campus of Ewa Makai Middle School in 'Ewa
Beach, on O'ahu.
The dress code here at Ewa Makai is composed of the green Ewa Makai
uniform.
Students must wear their IDs on their collar at
all times, and wear pants under knee-length.
Our dress code is for the safety of students, and is used as an
easier way to identify them.
The dress code is enforced by many people, such as Mrs. Martin, the vice
principal at our school, whose personality isn't like what most students believe.
[INDISTINCT]
I had a student in here who told me, You know, Mrs. Martin, last year I hated you.
I said, Really?
You hated me?
Still hate me now?
He goes, No.
I'm like, So, what's the difference?
How come you don't hate me anymore?
And he said, 'Cause I got to know you.
Mrs. Geri Martin, a vice principal at Ewa Makai Middle School in 'Ewa Beach, has the
reputation for being the toughest administrator at the school.
However, she has grown accustomed to the thought of
students calling her mean, and being frightened by her.
I think there are students that think I am mean.
Rumors that people said about Miss Martin was that she's mean, and like, the way she
used to look at them was like ... like they didn't like it.
I thought she was kinda strict, and harsh.
Despite what students may say, Mrs. Martin's mission goes much deeper.
Growing up, I didn't like the way my life was, and I was a very, very angry person.
And being an angry person, if anybody looked at me the wrong
way, or said the wrong thing, I'd lose it.
I had a really bad temper, and took my anger out on people, and
they didn't deserve that.
And I had to take responsibility and now, realizing that I had hurt so many
people, promised that I would do everything I can to instead of
hurt people, help.
To make up for past mistakes, Mrs. Martin began serving her community by coaching sports
in hopes of helping others.
When I was involved with community sports, there were a lot of students who didn't have
family that would come to their games.
They'd be embarrassed on potluck days, because they wouldn't be able to
bring anything.
And so, it was those individuals that I took in, that would come home with us and stay.
And sad thing is, some of their families wouldn't even call to check on them.
But I think being able to not just take care of my sons, but to be able
to take care of the greater family, which is the community.
Although some students may think that Mrs. Martin is harder on them, she only wants to
steer students towards the right path.
She helped me with problem situations.
Like I would fight with other students at school, and I always get
pulled into her office.
She always tells me stories about the same thing that I'm in, and that I'm not the
only one who's in the situation.
Even though you think that she's mean, she's not.
She's a very caring person.
For me, every individual matters.
Every individual has the potential and the right to be happy and
successful.
Even though Mrs. Martin may be tough on the outside, her caring nature shows students
that we can all grow from our mistakes.
Thank you.
[INDISTINCT]
This is Kristina Overly from Ewa Makai Middle School, for HIKI NŌ.
Stay tuned after the show to find out what the students who created this story learned
from their experience.
Our next piece comes from the town of Wahiawa on O'ahu, and marks the HIKI NŌ debut for
Ka'ala Elementary School.
They are the second elementary school to produce for HIKI NŌ.
Today, we will be making our own mini aquaponics garden in five simple steps.
Aquaponics is the growing of fish and plants in one system,
where we feed the fish, the fish poop helps feed the plants, and
the plant roots help clean the water for the fish.
To do this, you'll need a clear plastic bottle, water purifier, a small fish, fish food, gravel,
a plant and a cotton wick.
First, you must clean a clear plastic bottle, and then cut the top off.
Second, you'll need to pour water into your plastic bottle and add
two drops of the water purifier, and wait for twenty minutes.
This will make the water clean for the fish.
[TICKING]
The third step is to add gravel, and then net the fish and give it a home in your plastic
bottle.
Take the plant out of its pot, and wrap the cotton
wick around the roots before putting it into the top part of your
plastic bottle.
Finally, you place the top part onto the bottom part of the bottle.
Make sure the cotton wick is touching the water, and your aquaponics
garden is complete.
Just remember to feed your fish daily so the cycle can continue.
This is Ramsey Gongob from Ka'ala Elementary School, for HIKI NŌ.
We're here on the campus of Kaua'i High School in the town of Lihu'e.
The dress code at Kaua'i High requires students to wear approved school
wear.
Shirts with designs that include drugs, gang symbols,
obscene words or any inappropriate figure are not allowed to be worn.
School wear may not be cut or expose any part of the student's midriff area.
Undergarments may not be exposed as well.
Student shorts or skirts must be longer than the length of
their arms when extended down to their sides with their hands
clenched as a fist.
Sports supporter wear maybe worn as long as it follows the dress code, and our
school's name, Kaua'i High School, must be clearly printed on the front of the shirt.
The dress codes here at Kaua'i High School are made to keep students
safe and appropriate.
Now, let's take a look at a PSA produced by four of our fellow students here at Kaua'i
High School, titled "The Fact of You."
[MUSIC]
The word fact can be defined as a true piece of information.
And in our day and age where information and messages are bombarding us from every
angle, every second of the day, that's all we really want in
life: truth.
We are curious beings.
We like to know things, and we like to get answers, correct answers.
As we all know from presentations and essays and reports
we've made, it is of utmost importance to be factual and
accurate in everything we produce.
But isn't it ironic that in a world that is so conscientious about
producing substantiated truth, our very selves often lack authenticity and accurate representation?
We have fact-checked and weeded through the false
information in the world around us, but what about the
false information that lies within us?
Because when I look around, I see a world that, in the midst of being busy fact-checking
data, has fallen into accepting the false lies that society
has force-fed to us since the moment we were born, that we have
to be perfect and have it all together, that we can't be different, that appearances are
everything.
A lot of us are living small.
We hide our imperfections and we pretend to be like others so that we will be better
liked.
We say things and do things because that's what everybody else does, because that's what's
expected, what's easy, what's safe.
But what they don't tell you about the safe zone is that it's shallow,
and in the safe zone, you will never be able to dive into the great depths of meaning and
purpose that you were created to explore.
Yes, you were created to dive deeper than the shallow depths of conformity, and you
were created to be yourself.
Not her, or him, or them, but you.
Because the fact and the truth is that you are enough, just as
you are.
Come broken and bruised, come scarred and imperfect, you are loved, you are important,
you matter.
And if you can tap into this truth and let these facts transform you and set you free
from the chains of conformity, then you can be a production
of truth and freedom.
Your life is the greatest masterpiece that you will ever produce, more
important than any report, essay or presentation.
So, hold it to the same standards of accuracy and truth,
and let it be messy, let it be chaotic and imperfect, but most
of all, let it be genuine, true to who you are, because that is who you were created
to be, and that is a fact I can guarantee with a hundred percent certainty.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
This is Haven Luper-Jasso from Kaua'i High School, for HIKI NŌ.
We are here on the campus of Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School in Lihu'e, Kaua'i.
Here at Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School, our dress code
separates sixth, seventh and eighth graders by the color of
their shirt.
The colors quickly identify students and assist staff in the case of an emergency.
Sixth graders wear red CKMS uniforms, seventh graders
wear green CKMS uniforms and eighth graders wear
black CKMS uniforms.
Students can also wear team shirts which follow the grade's uniform colors.
Students can wear team shirts in place of school uniforms on any given day.
Our next story is made by our students about Team Unify, an organization that combines
students with and without special needs.
[INDISTINCT]
You've got all these kids that have all different backgrounds, and different strengths and different
weaknesses, and you have to try and get them together.
Team Unify is an organization that was created to strengthen the bonds between all students,
including those with special needs.
Kids with anywhere from intellectual disabilities to physical disabilities, as well as our kids
with non- disabilities coming together and making one
team to build bonds amongst each other.
It's about a diverse group of individuals understanding their strengths and their similarities.
And we're part of the Special Olympics program called
Unified Champion Schools that works on inclusion and
acceptance of all abilities.
In 2014, Ms. Amanda Fretto and Mrs. Gayle Thompson started Team Unify at Chiefess Kamakahelei
Middle School to bring together both students with and without special needs by doing activities
in and out of school.
Before, it was kind of, I don't know you, so I'm not gonna work with you.
But now, they've got to know each other, and the growth of their relationships
has really gotten stronger.
The main goal for Team Unify is that we spread the word of accepting others and having tolerance
for others.
All of us are friends, and all of us get together, and all of us have fun together.
Team Unify consists of over thirty students who participate in bowling tournaments in
fall, and track and field in spring, along with team-bonding activities
during school.
It really has been a great experience seeing my son get so excited to be with not just
kids in his class, but kids in his grade.
Through Team Unify, students learn to embrace their differences, and not be afraid of them.
Our first activity, it was an immediate bond.
Students with special needs and students without special
needs were working together, and they were recognizing each other's strengths rather
than their needs and differences.
Everybody is the same, and everybody is different, but all of us together can be so strong as
one.
We all have strengths in our own areas, so it depends on what it is.
I think that's how we help each other grow.
Our hope is that all students will be accepting of everyone, regardless of our differences.
I enjoy that I get to see all of the people with special disabilities having fun and doing
things that they should be able to do.
Having fun and forming lasting friendships is what makes Team Unify so strong.
This is Napua Canales from Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School, for
HIKI NŌ.
[CHEERS]
We're here on the Waipahu campus in the Leeward District of O'ahu.
Here, the dress code consists of an appropriate top and bottom, and students must
always wear their school IDs at all times on the upper half
of their body.
This prepares them for the world of work outside of high school, where appearances and
attire make good impressions during interviews and daily work activities.
This next story consists of an interesting contest that has been a special tradition
here at Waipahu High School.
This tradition has lasted for more than half a century.
Welcome to the fifty-second annual Arthur Awards.
[INDISTINCT] Let the games begin in three, two,
one.
Here at Waipahu High School, hundreds of students prepare for an exciting event that occurs
only once a year, an event known as Arthur Awards.
It's really packed with like, school pride and class pride.
More on the class pride, because you're separated by your grade level.
And it's very exciting throughout the day, knowing after all your classes
are done, you get to go and be with your class and basically cheer your hearts out.
Arthur Awards is a high-spirited cheering competition amongst the different classes,
and has been passed down from generation to generation for fifty-two
years.
However, no one really knows who or what started Arthur Awards.
Arthur Awards, you know, there are many versions of what happened, and how Arthur Awards came
to be.
So, I think whether it was from the Oscars, or someone named Arthur, I think the great
thing is that it's a spirit event that brings our classes
together, brings our school together, brings our students together
to really show their enthusiasm, their school pride, and it really shows who we are as students,
as a school community.
Although Arthur Awards is an event many students look forward to, preparations in order for
it to come to life don't come easy.
As a council member, we work really hard.
We start planning Arthur Awards the year before.
So, for my senior Arthur Awards, we've been planning
ever since junior year ending of third quarter, all the way
until ending of September this year.
After almost a whole month of preparing and practicing for this event, the long-awaited
Arthur Awards has begun.
This year, on September 30th, on football homecoming, each class is determined to win
and show off their class spirit in front of students
and teachers from other schools in the Waipahu Complex.
That's what makes the Arthur Awards special, is that really showing their school spirit.
Our students are able to show that and demonstrate that.
And win or lose, students want to come out on top, but even if
they don't, at the end, everyone's still together as a school and as a student body.
That's what I think really makes it great.
At the end of the day, the student body gathers to watch the football team aim for the win,
and to find out the class winner of Arthur Awards.
During the homecoming game, we all go there to see who's the winner.
And it's basically a bonding for all the classes.
One thing about Arthur Awards is that it requires a lot of teamwork, and one thing with
the school, if you don't have teamwork, you won't make the dream work.
This year, the Arthur Award went to the senior class of 2017.
This is Nadine Castillo from Waipahu High School, for HIKI NŌ.
Well, we've come to the end of this episode of HIKI NŌ.
All of these stories were written, shot and edited by students like us.
We hope that you have enjoyed watching them as much as we have enjoyed sharing them with
you.
Stay tuned after the show to find out what some students learned working on the show.
More proof that Hawai'i students HIKI NŌ...
Can do.
[DURING CREDITS, THE CAPTIONING CONTINUES WITH THE FOLLOWING:]
Stay tuned after the credits to find out what some students learned from their HIKI NŌ
experience.
Everything can always be fixed or improved.
Nothing is ever perfect.
And I think that's one of the main things that I learned from this story and
working on it.
[AFTER CREDITS, THE CAPTIONING CONTINUES FOR AN ADDITIONAL SEGMENT WITH
STUDENTS AND TEACHERS SHARING "WHAT I LEARNED."]
In the story about Ms. Martin, I was the director, scriptwriter and camera.
The way my class came up with doing the story on Ms. Martin was we kind of like asked Mr.
Toyota for any ideas that he had, and he said there's
a couple teachers that may have some background stories.
And I thought about Ms. Martin, like that was
the first thing that came to my mind, because a lot of my friends
told me about all the nice things that she's done for people.
And in my head, I was just like, but she seems like, so mean like in person.
And so, I told Mr. Toyota and I discussed it with my group, and we decided that Ms.
Martin would be like the most interesting person to do.
So for the students to see that, you know, administration, teachers, that these authority
figures are actually real people that have their own stories.
Interviewing Ms. Martin was kinda scary, in the beginning, but as we continued to ask
her questions and she opened up, it became easier and easier
to ask her questions.
And as we continued to ask questions and easier it got, the more emotional she got
in the questions.
So when we asked her easy questions, it was just simple for her to answer.
When we asked harder questions, she started to really open up and she
started crying in one of the questions, which was something none of us thought would ever
happen.
And when it happened we were shocked by it.
They get to see a different perspective that they don't normally see.
I think that's valuable in them understanding that everybody has a story.
This is Kristina Overly from Ewa Makai Middle School for HIKI NŌ.
As a narrator, I try to get the audience's attention so they're aware of what our story's
about and I try to create a tone where the person we're interviewing,
it's the same tone and you feel the same way as the
person that we're interviewing.
I think the theme or the lesson was that you shouldn't judge people by their first look
or what you first see.
You should judge them by getting to know them or you shouldn't judge them at all.
You should understand them.
The thing I think that I learned was that even though you really, really try super hard
on one of your cuts and you think it looks perfect and amazing,
and everyone's gonna think it looks great.
People are going to think that there are things wrong with it
and everything can always be fixed or improved.
Nothing is ever perfect.
And I think that's one of the main things that I learned from this story and working
on it.

On the party of the ex-new-prince Hridayendra Shah's Bratabandha,
held on Thursday (April 6, 2017) at Soltae Hotel
his father Paras Shah and his mother Himani Shah were also present.
They were captured in the same frame of a photo after a long time.
According to the video clip I received, they also had a short conversation with each other.
While Paras talked to Himani she had also spoken back to Paras.
Although there were news headlines like "The relationship between Paras and Himani has improved."
real improvement in relationship was not evident in the party.
While observing the body languages of Paras and Himani,
While Paras seem to be eager to talk to Himani, she didn't act like she was enjoying talking to him.

After living in Thailand for a long time, Paras had returned back to Nepal in 2015
the ex-prince and the ex-princess had been living separately.
In two years, this was the third time Paras and Himani were photographed together in a same photo.
(music)
Earlier, they were photographed together in a marriage ceremony
and they were also together in a photograph attached in a greeting card the ex-king had sent last year.
Although no photos or videos were made available, there was a rumour that Himani and Paras had danced together in the birthday celebration of Himani.
Whatever may be the case, my best wishes for the improvement of the relationship between Paras and Himani!

Government to use additional modular transporters to transfer Sewol-ho to land - Duration: 2:14.
Operations to transfer the Sewol-ho ferry to dry land have hit a roadblock.
Load tests this week showed more heavy-duty equipment would be needed to safely move the
vessel.
However, the government is determined to get the ferry completely out of the water by Monday.
Kim Min-ji has the details.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries has decided to deploy additional wheeled platform vehicles,...
or modular transporters,... to transfer the Sewol-ho ferry to land.
Another 120 modular transporters will be used,... on top of the original 480 that were planned.
This comes after officials concluded that the initial number would be unable to support
the weight of the vessel -- currently estimated at 16-thousand tons.
The government first said the ship weighed around 13-thousand-500 tons,... but later
revised the figure to 14-thousand-600 after finding excess water and mud inside the vessel.
The *latest figure is a closer estimate as it was made while attempting to lift the vessel.
All in all, the 600 modular transporters will be able to support a total weight of 17-thousand
tons.
On Thursday,... operations were underway to adjust the height of the modular transporters
so they evenly meet the lifting beams that are holding up the ship -- but efforts were
suspended as the daylight faded.
The Sewol-ho is currently sitting on 33 lifting beams -- which were used when salvaging the
vessel.
Initially, the government wanted to get the vessel onto dry land by Friday,... but unfavorable
weather conditions and the sheer weight of the ferry,... put those plans on hold.
"At this point, it's difficult to know when the ship will be tmoved to land,... but the
government is aiming to do so by next Monday... and says it will do all it can to make that
happen."
The delay has also postponed the search for nine passengers still missing, but officials
now say they will consider starting the search operation before the transfer onto land is
complete.

Wreckage from a mysterious, ancient planet spotted orbiting Mars - Duration: 4:44.
Wreckage from a mysterious, ancient planet spotted orbiting Mars
According to scientists, wreckage from a mysterious world that vanished from our solar system
billions of years ago has been found orbiting Mars.
There are a bunch of asteroids orbiting the red planet commonly referred to as Trojans,
and now scientists say these mysterious objects may have belonged to an ancient world that
was part of our solar system.
According to a new analysis, the objects orbiting Mars are all made from the same composition
which indicates they fractured from a planet in the distant past, in what was a massive
collision.
So far, scientists have discovered 9 Mars Trojansthe largest one of them measures
2km in diameter, while the remaining 8 span between 500 meters and 1.3 kilometers across.
Trojan asteroids arent a new thing in our solar system. In fact, astronomers say that
these objects have been present since the beginning of our solar system when planets,
moons, comets, and asteroids were distributed in a totally different way.
In fact, there are between 6,000 and 6,500 trojans in Jupiters and Neptunes orbit.
The red planet has nine of them, and the first one discovered 35 years ago is called Eureka.
This object is the largest of all nine trojans orbiting Mars.
To understand the Trojans orbiting Mars, an international group of astronomers used the
Very large Telescope in Chile in order to obtain detailed characteristics or Mars
Trojan family.
Experts found that the asteroids circling Mars are ALL made of the same material since
the spectrum of sunlight they reflect is similar.
Left: The paths traced by the known Martian Trojans around L4 or L5 (crosses) relative
to Mars (red disk) and the Sun (yellow disk). The dotted circle indicates the average Sun-Mars
distance. Right: Enlargement of inset (dashed rectangle) showing the paths of the 8 L5 Trojans:
1998 VF31 (marked as VF31 blue), Eureka (red) and the 6 objects identified
as family members (amber). The filled disks indicate the relative sizes of the asteroids.
Eureka, the largest member, is about 2 km across. Credit: Apostolos Christou.
However, scientists found curious details. According to experts, each of the satellites
has a mysterious composition compared to other objects in our solar system. All of the objects
are composed of olivinea mineral that comes into existence in larger materials as the
are exposed to extremely high pressure and temperatures.
Experts point out that Many other families exist in the Asteroid Belt between Mars and
Jupiter, and even among Jupiters Trojans, but none are made up of such olivine-dominated
asteroids.
This is why scientists believe that the Trojans origin Mars were once part of a mini planets
mantle.
Mini planets are believed to have developed a crust, a mantle, and core, but have been
destroyed in the distant past due to cataclysmic collisions.
Experts lead by Dr. Apostolos Christou and Dr. Galin Borisov from the Armagh Observatory
and Planetarium in Northern Ireland firmly believe that this is clear evidence that the
rocks are the wreckage of a long lost planet in our solar system.
Furthermore, Dr. Christou revealed that the ancient world could even have greatly impacted
or own civilization on Earth.
Our findings suggest that such material has participated in the formation of Mars
and perhaps its planetary neighbor, our own Earth, said Dr. Christou.

Frozen Hormones Ep. 2 Part 2/5 (click cc/Eng Sub) - Duration: 13:12.
[Chapter 3: Walking and Turning Practice] Everyone
please spread out
and find your own personal space.
Walk in place like this.
Continue walking in place.
Now we're learning the first steps of skiing.
Walking in place.
Side step then…together
But I can't get them back together.
Now,
side step this way then…together.
Everyone please go this way so you won't crash into each other.
And now, go back the other way again.
Step…together
Step…together
Now,
When you want to walk, you won't be able to walk.
You've to walk like this on a flat surface.
Flat surfaces.
But if you want to turn around,
spread your legs out a bit
and turn yourself around bit by bit.
Turn yourself bit by bit..to the left and to the right.
When walking uphill,
turn to your side
with your side facing uphill
and use your blade to cut into the snow and side step uphill.
If you try walking like this, you'll slide down.
[Practice Walking Uphill] Let's see how everyone does
after Instructor Owen's lesson.
Okay, have them go in this direction
then it's easier.
Why can't we use the sticks?
Nah, you're okay without them.
What?
You're okay without them.
What did he say?
Huh?
What did he say to you?
I asked why we weren't using the sticks. He said we didn't need them.
[Instructor Owen, International Ski Marketing Kiroro Resort] The ski poles, or so called stocks,
are used…
for support and thrusting forward
or for balance when accelerating or turning.
When first learning to ski,
we should focus more on the ski
for turning or braking.
If you cannot brake with the legs,
then you tend to use the stocks to help you brake
and this isn't good because they might..
poke your abdominal area.
So, it's a bit dangerous.
What!?
Having PunPun teach you, huh?
Fortunately, I'm at a champion level. I can do it.
Umm…the way you're walking looks pitiful.
Oy!!! I'm tired!!
Let's play football instead.
Go back to Thailand and play football instead?
Oyyyyy….
(Bend your) knees to help, so you're on the edges.
Ah, I get it.
[Aha]
It's..it's very easy when we do this together.
Yeah
Yeah? Do you understand English?
Yeah, understand, man.
You speak English?
Yep
Hey, I'm sliding, man.
Kitchen?
Chicken!
Chicken?
Kitchen!
That's very good.
How confident are you?
Very confident...
100 million percent
that we're going to win
but now I'm not so sure.
Top: Leave me here Pearwah: Hey! You can just keep going.
Top: Leave me here Pearwah: Pat (cameraman) just keep going.
How are you guys doing?
Good.
Can someone please bring me some lip balm?
My lips are chapped all the way to my ears already.
You're waiting to help other people?
That's right.
I'm afraid they might be in danger or something.
I'm going up slowly
because if I go up before them
and something happens to someone…
I wouldn't be able to forgive myself.
Hold on...
You okay?
Wait, wait wait....
See?
I have to be..
the one everyone can lean on.
I'm here for all the beginners.
The soul of a champion
always thinks about other people.
So compassionate and kind.
George Hayukha
[Chapter 4: Sliding and Braking with the Skis] Owen: When standing on the skis,
if we want to slide forward,
your skis should be
shoulder width apart..
the same width apart as your shoulders.
Bend your knees forward a bit, keep your body straight.
Put your hand out in front of you
and shift your weight to your shins, here.
Bend your knees a bit, like this.
If your skis are parallel to the ground or flat,
you will go forward,
Okay?
If you want to brake,
push your heels out to the side
to make an "A" shape.
The blades should come up
by squeezing your knees together.
See?
Your legs will be in a triangle shape. Squeeze your knees in
so that the inner blade cuts into the snow
and the outer blade goes up.
The more you cut into the snow, the more you'll be able to brake.
If you let go, like this,
you'll slide forward.
If you want to brake, push your heels out.
Now that they are ready to really start skiing
let's see how well they put everything together.
How's it going?
Yay!! I didn't fall down.
Very good. Okay, now that way.
A small triangle first. Keep looking forward.
Don't lean back, don't lean back. Make the triangle.
Use the inner blade in between your legs
to cut into the snow.
Make the triangle, still. Don't go forward like that.
Oh, were you sleepy, Oab?
Make the triangle...the triangle...brake.
Hey, Pea, feeling tired? You sat down so quickly.
Make the triangle shape...the triangle.
Bring your hands out in front of you. Put them out.
Owen: Look straight ahead.
Pull back to your original pose. Pull it back and hold it…
I slid and now I can't get up.
Help me.
I can't get up.
Stop filming and help me first, please.
James
Get the inner blade to cut into the snow.
Press down all the way.
Put more weight on your right foot. More on your right.
Sky
Nice and wide. Brake. Lean forward a bit.
Sky
I fall again.
What happened?
I swerved trying to avoid your camera..
He was in the way
Bank: Get out of the wayyy.
Make the triangle. Use the inner blade to cut in. Good.
Straight. Keep your body straight.
Good. Okay.
Whoa! Like you've been training for years.
Is this really your first time?
It really is. It's my first time seeing snow too.
Now, let's see our champion moves
and watch how skiing is really done.

Korea's Presidential Candidates: Hong Joon-pyo - Duration: 3:06.
It's time to turn the spotlight on each of the candidates running for the top office.
We are finding out who they are... and what pledges they're putting forward.
In the second installment of our series,... we focus on the nominee for the Liberty Korea
Party, Hong Joon-pyo.
Take a look.
Hong Joon-pyo is the governor of Gyeongsangnam-do Province and was nominated last week as the
presidential candidate for the conservative Liberty Korea Party... which was the former
ruling Saenuri party under the embattled Park Geun-hye administration.
Hong was a prosecutor from the mid-80s to the mid-90s...
and jumped into politics in 1996 when he won election as a lawmaker with the New Korea
Party,... another predecessor of Liberty Korea Party.
Hong has characterized the upcoming election... as a battle between the right and the left.
He's portrayed the left as fragile and weak,... and himself as a strong figure... who will
revolutionize the country and institute a new order.
He has vowed to unite conservatives... and end the ideological and regional divisions
in Korean politics.
Hong's hard-line approach to security and diplomacy... mirrors that of the ousted Park
administration.
He says the U.S. missile defense system THAAD MUST BE deployed -- unless China uses its
influence over North Korea.
Hong's view of the Kaesong Industrial Complex -- an inter-Korean project that was suspended
in February last year -- is also similar to Park's.
He doesn't want operations to resume unless the North Korea issue is resolved.
Hong has also said he would take a nuclear-to-nuclear approach -- meaning, the South should have
its own nuclear weapons to match the North's arsenal.
He says he'd be in favor of redeploying U.S. tactical nuclear weapons to South Korea.
Regarding the wartime sexual slavery agreement struck with Japan in 2015,... his position
is that it should be nullified,... as such "crimes against humanity" cannot be subject
to agreement.
On the economic front, Hong says the government's role should be limited to encouraging investment.
He says he will work to reduce the number of civil servants...
and that private companies should take the lead in creating jobs.
He is also seeking to expand childcare for children up to the age of five, with different
amounts of financial support at five income levels.
Among the six leading presidential nominees -- five major party candidates and one independent
-- Hong Joon-pyo is in third,... with 10-percent support.
Campaigning officially starts on April 17th... and the key for Hong will be to broaden his
appeal to a greater cross-section of conservative voters.
He's expressed confidence... if his campaign were to merge with that of Yoo Seong-min -- the
nominee from the splinter conservative Bareun Party -- he would easily beat the other three
candidates.

U.S. says 'something should happen' with Assad after gas attack - Duration: 1:45.
Turning to Tuesday's suspected chemical attack in Syria, U.S. President Donald Trump has
once again pinned the blame on the Syrian government, with U.S. officials saying they
are discussing a response to the incident.
Trump told reporters onboard Air Force One en-route to Florida that something should
happen with President Bashar al-Assad, but stopped short of calling on Assad to leave
office.
- Reuters Edit No 4264 03'08 "I think what happened in Syria is a disgrace
to humanity, and he's there, and I guess he's running things, so something should happen."
Adding to Trump's comments, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Assad should no
longer have a role as Syria's leader.
Although he didn't specifically say if military action would be taken against the regime,
he did say a serious response was needed.
- Reuters Edit No 4255 02'15 "We are considering the appropriate response
for this chemical weapons attack which violates all previous U.N. resolutions, violates international
norms and long-held agreements between parties including the Syrian regime, the Russian government
and all other members of the UN Security Council.
It's a serious matter.
It requires a serious response."
A U.S. official said detailed military options being discussed by the Pentagon and the White
House could include grounding aircraft used by Assad's forces.
The official added that U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis and White House National Security
Adviser H.R. McMaster are already in talks on possible attack plans, but did not comment
on whether a military response would actually be taken.

South and North Korea face-off...but also come together on the ice - Duration: 2:53.
The diplomatic relationship between South and North Korea continues to sour, but on
Thursday night, those differences were put to one side, as an ice-hockey match between
the two took place in the South's Gangwon-do province.
Kwon Jang-ho was there to witness the historic match and filed this report.
Two Koreas, one rink.
In a rare sporting contest between two sides technically still at war with each other,
the South and North Korean women's ice hockey teams faced-off at the Gangneung Hockey Center
on Thursday.
It's the first time in three years that any athlete from the North has stepped foot on
this side of the inter-Korean border, and the contest has been hotly anticipated.
Another ballistic missile test carried out by Pyongyang earlier this week once again
brought a dark cloud over the relationship, but that tension couldn't be found here.
"Several thousand spectators have come to watch this rare inter-Korean clash.
Of course there are no supporters who have come from North Korea, but what's noticeable
is that the crowds are not only cheering for the home team."
Many in the audience waved symbolic flags of a unified Korea -- as North Korean flags
are banned in the South -- while singing and chanting songs of unification.
There are many of our supporters, so it felt right to support North Korea.
By cheering them on, it will hopefully give them strength.
We are the same people so we should support both sides.
We are one nation divided and I wanted my children to understand and experience that
first hand.
It was a physical and nervy game, but South Korea came out comfortable three-nothing winners.
Although the disappointment was evident on the faces of the North Korean players, they
were gracious in defeat, leaving a memorable impression on the audience and the South Korean
players.
"We are the same people, so to have had this duel here in Korea like this, makes me feel
proud and good."
"I was definitely a little more nervous for this game.
I mean like you said, it is North Korea, so it's kind of more of a rivalry, so to say.
So yea it definitely did feel...prepared a little different for this game but also trying
to treat it like any other."
A coincidence in international sporting schedules means another North-South clash is set to
take place.
The South Korean women's football team is currently in Pyongyang playing in the Asian
Cup qualifiers, and will face the North Korean team on Friday.
It'll be the first inter-Korean football match in North Korea for 27 years.
Despite the ongoing geopolitical conflict between the two countries, sport continues
to act as a meeting ground where the people from the two sides can connect.

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Future Tone - [PV] "Piano x Forte x Scandal" (DLC) (Rom/Eng/Esp Subs) - Duration: 3:58.
Video grabado por Karin
Day after day, I follow along with the commonplace concerto that is me
Just follow the conductor's baton and harmony is guaranteed
Your classic honors student, rather devoted
But you've gotta
Ad lib to the upbeat, or things'll get bland
If I'm doomed to fade away living life according to some musical score
I'd rather drown in a whirlpool if immorality
Words whispered so gently that the proof of love
Shining from your fingers
Might fade away are a forbidden serenade
If I close my eyes at three in the morning
And only think of you
My friends might say that's not a good thing!
But those words do nothing to quench my thirst
And with that charmless phrase, my playing goes awry
Atop this scattered score
Before this love, already cracked, breaks to pieces
Bind it together with a kiss, the rhapsody begins to spin
Ride this accelerating rhythm of love
To test our feelings for each other
We can reach fortissimo tonight, hold me tight, tight
Our voices overlapping will melt into the darkness
So don't worry
We're not doing anything wrong

Bread Making | Messy Play - Duration: 2:29.
Bread Making
Hi, this is Coley again.
Earlier in the series, I have discussed foam.
Go watch the video if you haven't already.
Today, the mess play activity I want to show you
is something that some parents might have done at home quite often already.
But, they just have never invited their children to participate in the process.
It is bread making.
In the activity, all the ingredients are easily found at home.
It includes: flour, milk, eggs, salt and raisins.
Throughout this activity,
children are exposed to different sensory input of
various textures and smell
They can feel things are cold, warm, soft and hard.
They can touch items that are powdery, grainy,
sticky, dry and wet.
Also they can smell different herbs and aroma
from the bread that is taken out from the oven.
For motor development, children benefit by building up
their strength and mobility in their hands
and upper body muscle.
By all the stirring and kneading
of the batter and the dough,
they also develop their praxis skills
by grading and using their force to stir the batter
with different consistencies
Also by the force they use to crack the egg shell
without breaking the whole egg
During the activity,
children can improve the language and vocabulary.
For example, the names of the ingredient
the tools they used and actions they performed.
They can also learn to request and
wait for their turns in the process.
Number concepts can also be introduced in the activity.
They learn how to count and add.
