The Real Reason We Don't Hear From Demi Moore Anymore - Duration: 7:37.

After a difficult childhood marred by cases of alcoholism and suicide in the family, Demi

Moore left behind her life in a New Mexico trailer park in pursuit of the bright lights

of Tinsel Town.

Three decades and three husbands later, Moore's name is known the world over, but her face

is rarely seen anymore.

Considering her undeniable talent and her impressive acting resume, Demi Moore should

be headlining blockbuster movies every year.

Instead, she seems to only be appearing in below-the-radar projects — when she appears

at all.

So what happened?

Press pressure

Moore has had a feisty relationship with the press right from the get-go.

The actress has battled with the media over her public image on countless occasions over

the course of her career, even during her earliest years in showbiz.

"And we didn't anticipate press being there so we weren't prepared.

So we were walking to our car and there were so many flashes going off we couldn't even

see where we were walking."

The stunning young starlet first came to the attention of audiences as a member of the

so-called Brat Pack, starring in '80s coming-of-age classics like St. Elmo's Fire and About Last

Night.

Trouble was, she hated being labeled as a brat, even if it was meant as a status symbol.

At the time, she complained,

"I find it embarrassing, hateful and demeaning.

The man who wrote that seems jealous because we are young and talented, so he filled the

article with lies.

He implied we all hate each other."

Box office boom...to bust

Unlike some of her Brat Pack buddies, Moore's career was still going strong as the '90s

rolled around, becoming one of the biggest stars in the world with her performance opposite

the clay-molding spirit of Patrick Swayze in Ghost.

Things took a turn for the worse at the midpoint of the decade, however, once The Scarlet Letter

barely managed to claw back a fifth of its budget.

"In my opinion, good things come and go just like bad things come and go."

Then, the Razzie-favorite Striptease became Hollywood slang for box office bomb after

a horrible performance the very next year, and G.I.

Jane was a resounding disappointment at the box office as well.

Things only got worse as the years ticked on, with 2010's The Joneses representing rock

bottom for the former star as far as theater receipts go.

The film only managed an embarrassing $1,355 per screen average in its second weekend.

Salary suspension

It might seem hard to believe now, but at one point Moore was Hollywood's highest paid

female performer.

After the success of Ghost, the raven-haired actress negotiated an eye watering $12.5 million

paycheck for Striptease.

So when that film flopped hard, the general consensus was that Moore was not worth the

money.

She didn't see it that way, however — and neither did Ridley Scott.

The director signed off on an $11 million pay packet so she would star in G.I Jane.

That would be the last eight figure sum she would receive, as studios became wise to her

salary demands, especially after she started to gain a reputation as an unbearable diva

behind the scenes.

The media started nicknaming her "Gimme Moore," highlighting the crazy and often ridiculous

requests the actress was said to have been making of movie studios.

She once asked for a private plane to transport her from her secluded Idaho home to New York

City and then reportedly demanded that Sony swap it for a larger one just so that she

didn't have to stack her luggage.

Talk about a ridiculous rider.

For her part, Moore has defended her notorious tantrums as her just being a perfectionist.

"I don't understand why it's so difficult to confirm appointments."

"I know I'm so sorry Miranda, I actually conf.."

"Tales of your incompetence do not interest me."

Sex symbol slump

In her younger days, Demi Moore once said, "The quickest route to power for an actress

in Hollywood is to hook yourself up to someone who can put you in a good position, and make

yourself a sex object."

That approach might have worked at the time, but even the best looking actresses can only

bank on being pure eye candy for so long.

The older Moore got, the more she tried to hang on to her good looks, reportedly turning

to plastic surgeons for help.

Various tabloid reports claimed the ageing actress spent as much as $400,000 on a full

body makeover that included collagen injections in her lips, porcelain caps on her teeth and

liposuction on her stomach, thighs, and bottom.

When asked about the sudden differences in her appearance, Moore flat-out denied she

had ever gone under the knife, telling reporters in Paris that she didn't like "the idea of

having an operation to hold up the aging process… the scalpel won't make you happy."

But that was at odds with what many experts noticed about her appearance.

Even despite her alleged surgical intervention, though, Moore has gone from a precocious twenty-something

to middle age before America's eyes and has blamed ageism for her reduced starpower of

late.

When she hit 44, she opened up about how difficult it was to be a middle-aged woman in the film

industry, saying,

"It's been a challenging few years, being the age I am.

Almost to the point where I felt like, well, they don't know what to do with me.

I am not 20.

Not 30.

There aren't that many good roles for women over 40.

A lot of them don't have much substance, other than being someone's mother or wife."

Breakup blues

While Moore recovered well after her publicized divorce from Bruce Willis, she has seemingly

struggled to keep it together since her six-year marriage to Ashton Kutcher came crashing down.

Trouble was brewing amid allegations that her much younger husband had been cheating

on her with women closer to his own age.

The final straw came when 22-year-old part-time model Sara Leal spilled the beans about sleeping

with Kutcher on his and Moore's wedding anniversary, prompting the actress to release a statement

confirming their split.

She said,

"As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred,

and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life."

Family squabbles

Moving forward has proven difficult for Moore, and family troubles have only added to her

isolation in recent years.

The actress relied heavily on the three daughters she had with Willis in the aftermath of her

very public separation from Kutcher.

But she was said to have been contacting them so regularly that they reportedly considered

taking out a restraining order against her.

"You know what?

Life is life and it's messy and it's complicated and you know what?

It takes guts"

Perhaps part of that distance is owed to the fact that Moore has once again faced substance

abuse issues in recent years.

In 2012, she was reportedly rushed to hospital after allegedly suffering a seizure when high

on laughing gas and prescription pills.

Not all press is good press

Moore was briefly back in the headlines in 2015, though for all the wrong reasons.

In July of that year a 21-year-old man attended a party at Moore's Beverly Hills home and

drowned after falling into her 10-foot-deep swimming pool while drunk.

The actress was away visiting family at the time of the accident, but the fact that a

wild party had led to a death on her premises only reinforced studio fears that she was

a liability.

Comeback?

Demi Moore returning to Hollywood isn't only possible — it is totally in the cards for

2017.

A source close to the star revealed to Radar Online she's running low on money and has

decided to take her recent casting in hit Fox show Empire and turn it into a full-blown

comeback.

The source revealed that she's currently looking at new scripts and,

"She knows that she needs to get back into the game to survive and has rehired her team

of managers and agents to help her with another big break."

Looks like we'll have more Moore sooner than anyone would've guessed…

"Exciting, isn't it?"

Giraffes Can't Dance Read Aloud by Books Read Aloud For Children - Duration: 5:40.

Giraffes Can't Dance by Gilles Andreae and Guy Parker-Rees.

Gerald was a tall giraffe whose neck was long and slim.

But his knees were awfully crooked and his legs were rather thin.

He was very good at standing still and munching shoots off trees.

But when he tried to run around, he bucked at the knees.

Now every year in Africa they hold the Jungle Dance, where every single animal turns up

to skip and prance.

And this year when the day arrived poor Gerald felt so sad, because when it came to dancing

he was really very bad.

The warthogs started waltzing and the rhinos rock 'n' rolled.

The lions danced a tango that was elegant and bold.

The chimps all did a cha-cha with a very Latin feel,

and eight baboons then teamed up for a splendid Scottish reel.

Gerald swallowed bravely as he walked toward the floor.

But the lions saw him coming, and they soon began to roar.

"Hey, look at clumsy Gerald," the animals all sneered.

"Giraffes can't dance, you sill fool!

Oh, Gerald, you're so weird."

Gerald simply froze up.

He was rooted to the spot.

They're right, he thought.

I'm useless.

Oh, I feel like such a clot.

So he crept off from the dance floor, and he started walking home.

He'd never felt so sad before - so sad and so alone.

Then he found a little clearing, and he looked up at the sky.

"The moon can be so beautiful," he whispered with a sigh.

"Excuse me!"

coughed a cricket who'd seen Gerald earlier on.

"But sometimes when you're different you just need a different song."

"Listen to the swaying grass and listen to the trees.

To me the sweetest music is those branches in the breeze.

"So imagine that the lovely moon is playing just for you -

everything makes music if you really want it to."

With that, the cricket smiled and pickup up his violin.

Then Gerald felt his body do the most amazing thing.

His hooves had started shuffling, making circles on the ground.

His neck was gently swaying, and his tail was swishing round.

He threw his legs out sideways, and he swung them everywhere.

Then he did a backward somersault and leapt up in the air.

Gerald felt so wonderful his mouth was open wide.

"I am dancing!

Yes, I'm dancing!

I AM DANCING!"

Gerald cried.

Then, one by one, each animal who'd been there at the dance

arrived while Gerald boogied on and watched him, quite entranced.

They shouted, "It's a miracle!

We must be in a dream.

Gerald's the best dancer that we've ever, ever seen!"

"How did you learn to dance like that?

Please, Gerald, tell us how."

But Gerald simply twirled around and finished with a bow.

Then he raised his head and looked up at the moon and stars above.

"We all can dance," he said, "when we find music that we love."

6 Ways to be a BAD Global Citizen - Duration: 10:38.

Hey guys, Ethan from RealLife English here with another really kickass English lesson

for you.

Actually, today's lesson is not so much about the English language as it is about

how English learners should act.

If you are learning English it is definitely to your benefit to learn how to be a good

global citizen.

This is going to help you with connecting with people from other places all over the

world, with traveling, with using the language and not making an ass of yourself.

So I just got back to the United States, I was recently in Thailand for a couple months,

as many of you may know, I was actually living there in a place called Chiang Rai and I really

disappointed myself during this time.

Why?

Because normally I am an excellent global citizen, if I do say so myself, and in Thailand

I did everything I would say that a global citizen should NOT do.

And so I wanted to share my experience with you so that you might learn what SHOULD global

citizens do?

How do you be a good global citizen?

And what do I normally do when I travel or go live in a new place?

So I'm going to kind of contrast my experience living in Thailand along with Bali, where

I just was, in Indonesia, before returning to the United States.

All right guys, let's jump into the 6 Things Not to Do When Trying to Be a Global Citizen.

So number one, the first thing that a global citizen should NOT do is…

Not learn the language.

So that's exactly what I didn't do in Thailand.

I only learned enough very basic Thai to get by, so this would be like I learned some numbers

so that I could ask prices when I go to the market, so that I could not pay kind of like

a "foreigners' price."

I learned basically how to say "Hello," "Good morning," "excuse me," "sorry,"

I could not even have the most basic conversation with any Thai person, I basically could just

smile and wave.

So that's the first really terrible thing that I did.

Being an English learner, a lot of times English is enough when you travel, you can meet a

lot of people who speak good English and you connect with them through this.

English is my first language, I have that benefit obviously.

But, I think that it's not enough, and I always try to challenge myself when I go to

a new place to learn a little bit of the language so that I can connect with the locals, and

I did a much better job of doing this before going to Bali.

I kind of learned maybe 10-20 phrases to get me started and then I would ask people there

how to say different things, so I could at least initiate a conversation in Indonesian

before switching to English right off the bat.

And I found that when you do this, even if you just speak a little bit of the basics

people really appreciate you making the effort to learn their language, so even as an English

learner, don't make the excuse that you speak English, try to learn a little bit of

basics of the local language so you can connect more with the locals.

So, number two, I didn't learn anything about Thai history, I still know almost nothing

about Thai history, and this is a mistake that I believe people make all the time when

they travel or go live abroad.

A lot of people make the excuse that "Oh I'll learn the history when I get there,"

or "Why should I learn it anyway?

It's not really that important for learning the language."

However, I would highly disagree with this.

Knowing something about the history of the place that you're going to, of the place

that you might be living in is crucial for learning the language because it really helps

you understand why people are as they are today in that country, and I would also say

that this is something a little extra that helps you to connect to the locals.

So, don't make the excuse that you don't need to know anything about the history.

Just open up the wikipedia entry about that country and learn the 30-second, basic introduction

to that country's history, so that you won't make a ass of yourself when you're in the

country.

All right, so number three would be judging people based on your own cultural values.

This is something that I believe I did too much in Thailand and again I am really disappointed

with myself because I am usually quite good at being very non-judgmental, of giving people

the benefit of the doubt.

"The benefit of the doubt" means that you basically give people an excuse.

You give them a free pass to do something because maybe it's something that you don't

understand.

So I didn't give Thai people generally the benefit of the doubt when they would do something

that I didn't understand.

An example of this, of something that really frustrated me there, which was silly, is that

people take a lot of selfies.

They would go to places like these beautiful cafes, there are many beautiful cafes in Thailand,

by the way, and they would spend the whole time just taking pictures of themselves, taking

pictures of their food, their coffee, and not actually enjoying the environment.

And I didn't take the time to really understand, what might be the history behind this, or

the cultural explanation for why people are really obsessed with taking pictures of themselves.

I never asked anyone, or really put in the time or the effort to understand why people

were like this.

I just got frustrated, which, it hurts me, it doesn't help anyone, so, always giving

people the benefit of the doubt, being non-judgmental, being very patient, putting yourself in other

people's shoes.

It really benefits you as a person, as a global citizen, as a human being, to understand,

to try to understand other people's world views.

So number 4, which will help with all of these things is of course making local friends.

Either friends that speak English, or if you are making the effort to learn the local language,

maybe someone that is going to be helping you to learn it, and are, you know, obviously

you need someone who is a bit patient while you are learning it.

So when I was in Thailand I made zero local friends unfortunately.

I really missed out on a huge opportunity I think.

Again not just to connect with the local culture, but to connect with people who have a different

life experience from me.

This is one of the big benefits of global citizenship is that you get to see how people

all over the world through their different experiences, their different points of views,

kind of grow up, and how they see the world.

So it's a regret of mine that I didn't make any local friends.

I'm sure with a little bit of effort, just by being a little bit more friendly, smiling

at more people, and putting myself out there to start more conversations and meet more

people I could have very easily made some local friends, which would have helped me

to learn more all about the culture, and be a better global citizen.

All right, so number five a very crucial thing when you go to a new place.

If you learn nothing else from this video I would say this is extremely important for

everything else you're going to hear.

It's being curious and asking a lot of questions.

So obviously when you learn the local language or you find people who speak English, you

learn about the history, you are non-judgmental and patient, and you make local friends it

becomes much easier to become curious because you're just more motivated to learn more

about the place that you are at.

I did a much better job in Bali at this than when I was in Thailand.

I actually had the benefit there that I already had a friend, so I was able to connect with

her and some of her friends, but we also just would be kind of curious when we would go

in the taxi for example.

We would ask the driver, you know, about what else he did in Bali.

We would ask him about the local holiday that was happening when we were there, and it was

just interesting to get to know people's points of views again.

To experience a little bit about how people there live lives, and to imagine a little

bit like, what would my life be like if I had grown up in Bali.

And this is something that I always love when I travel, I like to ask myself like, "Huh,

I wonder what my life would be like if I had grown up in Bali, if I had grown up in Japan,

if I grew up in Spain," and to, I think this is something that global citizens do,

they kind of imagine their life through the lens of many different cultures.

And that will bring me to number six, which is, getting fascinated by the local culture.

And obviously we talked about this a little bit, the history is a big part of this, and

all of the other things that I already said, one through five, contribute a lot to this.

Learning about the local culture really gives you an entirely new, higher level of appreciation

for the place that you are visiting, or that you are living in.

And this could be things like taking a dance class, taking a cooking class, if your play

an instrument maybe finding a jam session and going to play guitar or singing with the

locals or even just listening to music and appreciating it with the locals.

And of course, this can contribute to you meeting new people who are going to help you

with all the other things on this list.

So, I know a lot of people tend to travel to new places and they get too comfortable

by just talking to other foreigner, or by just talking to people from their own country.

I know I did this in Thailand.

It was very out of character for me, I feel like I missed out on a huge opportunity to

experience a new place, to experience a new culture, to really understand a new, different

worldview from my own, and to take up my global citizenship, so to speak.

So that said, I feel like I've learned a huge lesson.

I will not be making these mistakes again when I go to visit a new place.

I hope that you have learned something about this and that you will take consideration

of these lessons that I learned next time you visit another country, speak to someone

from another country, or if you ever go live abroad, or are living abroad right now.

So I would really appreciate it if you learned anything in this video if you found anything

interesting in this video if you would LIKE it, and of course, I would love it if you

would share your experience.

Do you have any stories about when you were a really good global citizen?

When you were a really bad global citizen?

Share them below and let's start a conversation around this topic.

I can't wait to hear what you guys say!

So remember to go out there and kick ass with your English, kick ass with your global citizenship,

and I will see you guys really soon.

Trump's Wall from the Smuggler's View - Duration: 9:27.

Trumps Wall from the Smugglers View

by Justin King

As the discussion over Trumps wall heats back up, it seems as though every possible

angle has been covered by the media. The Fifth Column chose to look at the wall through the

eyes that ultimately will be the deciding factor in whether it is successful or not:

the smugglers. Not the coyotes, but the professional smugglers who will step in to fill the void.

While many people currently cross the border without the assistance of professional smugglers,

a wall will bring that to an end. Once the wall is built, border patrol will no longer

be dealing with unorganized coyotes making a quick buck before returning to a shift at

the ranch. They will be dealing with smugglers who dont have day jobs. They will be battling

people who describe their profession as refugee relocation experts, emergency evacuation specialists,

travel expeditors, or simply movers.

Who are the smugglers?

The professional alien smuggling community isnt like any other smuggling community.

They arent wild cocaine cowboys. Most are former military, law enforcement, intelligence,

or military contractors. They speak multiple languages, possess advanced educations, and

exercise a level of tradecraft Border Patrol has never encountered. The logistics involved

in smuggling people varies greatly from that of smuggling narcotics, weapons, cash, or

even medical supplies. Moving people requires skills not possessed by the everyday mule.

When questioned about the differences, one of our sources stated flatly, none of those

other things have to breathe. That one sentence clearly showcases the complexities

of moving people across international borders undetected.

The motivations of the smugglers vary. Some do it strictly for the money, some do it out

of a religious conviction, others have a political ideology, some do it to atone for past actions,

and still others do it because its the last place where you really get to play the

game. The game is spy vs spy battles of the intelligence world prior to the coming-of-age

of the technical spying, total surveillance era. This probably seems a far cry from the

view most hold of alien smugglers. That stems from confusing traffickers for smugglers.

Traffickers take people places they dont want to go and force them to do things they

dont want to. Smugglers take people where they want to go, or at least to a better location

than where they were. Smugglers and traffickers dont get along. A professional smuggling

crew is likely to deal with traffickers more quickly, efficiently, and brutally than any

federal agency ever would. While some of the motivation for the feud rests in the reasons

above, another is simply pragmatic. Traffickers often use the same means and methods as smugglers,

however, trafficking draws far more attention from law enforcement. When traffickers and

smugglers end up operating in the same area, one group either relocates or ends up missing.

Beyond the above, The Fifth Column, wont be disclosing much else about those we interviewed

for reasons that should be apparent. The names are all fictitious. Any identifying information

will have been altered. As an example: a smuggler named Clinton Pierce from the United Kingdom

who was formerly employed by British Intelligence might be renamed Vladimir Leninovich from

Russia and his former job might be listed as a police officer. This level of anonymity

is necessary to provide security for those we interviewed and was the only way to give

you a look at the wall you will never see otherwise.

We reached out through various contacts and were able to connect with current or former

smugglers from every niche with the notable exception of the Mexican cartels. We attempted

on three separate occasions to reach out to two of the main cartels but were unsuccessful.

The contracted smuggler: A contracted smuggler is someone who is paid to move specific people

out of a given country. Most are ex-military.

The wall wont change a thing for us. We dont drive across the open border. Nobody

does except the cowboys. Well have to slightly alter our method, but this doesnt really

bother us at all.

The route smuggler: A smuggler who reuses a specific route over and over again.

Itll slow us down for a week or two. These guys are federal employees. They have

schedules. We figure out the schedules and then were back to full loads. All it will

do is make us carry out a little bit of border watching.

The paper smuggler: This person games the immigrations system and obtains visas for

the people he or she is moving.

The wall helps us. With less unpapered illegals, there will be a greater demand for

temporary labor, which means more available visas. The wall is going to pad my pocket.

The bull smuggler: What most people think of. The coyote and the guy who just tries

to drive through the checkpoint without planning ahead.

Well have to move to boats. Once the wall goes up, the cartels will control the

tunnels. Wed have to use their tunnels. I dont want to hurt anybody and if Border

Patrol stumbles on a tunnel, theyll kill him. Im not doing that, so Ill become

a sailor.

Gilly Cruz, a former intelligence officer in the Ecuadoran army, is a route smuggler.

He believes the wall will completely end the days of the amateur or part-time smuggler.

Those are decent guys for the most part. The coyote in Mexico is normally just a guy

who knows the terrain and can navigate. The only part-time positions available will be

with the cartels. These guys wont do that because theyre good guys. They arent

going to pull a trigger for the cartel and they arent going to put in the effort to

watch the border or build their own tunnel. When asked for specifics about how smugglers

like him would survive, he laughed and said. Come on, man. Its going to be just like

the people at TSA. They catch less than 5% of the stuff going through and they have X-rays,

pat down searches, and all kinds of other [methods of detection]. Its a joke.

TSA really is that bad at what they do.

Clarice Johnstone, a paper smuggler, based out of Mexico City said. Oh, I cant

wait for the wall to be built. My business will triple. Easy. There are hundreds of short-term

visa types that are available to gain entrance. Once theyre there, its just like before.

My way becomes the safest and easiest on the market. When asked what would happen if

they overstay and about their likelihood of getting caught, she said Americans are

stupid for wanting a wall anyway, but I dont think theyre dumb enough to grant the government

the power to search homes at random for illegals. Thats what it would take. If the government

there does that, well be finding ways to get people out, not in.

A bull smuggler named John White of Galveston, Texas was quick to point out that the wall

would have huge gaps and that it wouldnt include the waterways or the Gulf of Mexico

or the Pacific Ocean. Youre an [expletive deleted] idiot if you think this means anything

to us. So we drive a boat instead of car. It means nothing. You cant stop drugs from

Colombia, but youre going to stop people? Itll never happen. Water is a lot easier

too because we dont have to stick to roads. One time we land in Texas, the next time in

Mississippi.

Tsaritsa Wilde was a contract smuggler until last year. She is known to have operated in

at least a dozen countries. Her take on the wall is simple. The whole thing is laughable.

Its a political tool to keep stupid people voting for the orange one. If these yokels

knew anything about immigration, theyd know the US loses about 10,000 Mexicans per

year. There are more Mexicans leaving than coming. [The Fifth Column checked this statement,

and found it to be true] The wall will change nothing except for putting a few of the really

dumb people out of business. Their clients just go to someone else. The government doesnt

want to commit money to build the wall. The locals will simply break it down in places,

there wont be money to fix it. The cartels will dig under it or a blow a hole in it.

The government will only succeed in making it more dangerous for Border Patrol. When

asked specifically about contract smugglers, she said It wont change things at all.

Who drives across a border anymore? Nobodys done that since [specific persons name]s

day. The wall is a simple show for the people at home. It means nothing to us. As you know

though, an army on the border just means that one day, well be getting people out of

the US soon. When it happens give me a call, Ill give you a discount.

Why Clay From 13 Reasons Why Looks So Familiar - Duration: 4:39.

Netflix's newest fan favorite is the heartbreaking 13 Reasons Why. A teen drama based on the

2007 Jay Asher novel of the same name, the series features a ton of fresh-faced actors,

including one you'll swear you've seen before: Dylan Minnette, who stars as Clay Jensen.

Why is he so familiar? Here are thirteen reasons why ...

Saving Grace

Minnette first made his mark in 2007 as a series regular in this TNT crime drama, where

he played another character named Clay: the young and oh-so lovable Clay Norman, the nephew

of the strung-out, self-destructive detective played by Holly Hunter. Minnette's mature

performance earned him back-to-back Young Artist Awards in 2008 and 2009.

Lost

His next big TV role was short-lived, but what a role it was: in 2010, Minnette played

David Shephard, the sort-of son of Jack and Juliet, on the controversial sixth and final

season of the time-hopping ABC adventure drama Lost.

Fans likely remember Minnette from the episode "Lighthouse," in which Jack sits David down

for a heart-to-heart …

"I will always love you. No matter what you do. In my eyes, you can never fail."

Too bad Minnette's character only existed in a post-death metaphysical realm ... but

that's just how Lost rolled.

Let Me In

Here's where things get dark. Minnette entered the horror scene that same year as a bully

named Kenny in this adaptation of the 2008 Swedish vampire flick, Let the Right One In.

"Hey little girl."

His chilling portrayal of the pre-teen tormentor earned him two more Young Artist Award nominations.

The kid's on a roll.

Awake

Audiences definitely woke up when they first saw Minnette spinning through the air in this

short-lived 2010 NBC police procedural. Starring Jason Isaacs Awake followed an LAPD detective

who's torn between two different timelines after a car accident launches him into the

supernatural.

Minnette plays Britten's son, Rex, appearing only in what's known as the "green reality,"

the world in which Rex survives the tragedy and his mother doesn't. Apparently he has

a gift for playing teens who may or may not really exist...

Prisoners

In 2013, the then 17-year-old Minnette joined an impressive ensemble in this thriller centered

around one father's primal reaction to an unthinkable crime.

Minnette plays Ralph Dover, son of Hugh Jackman's Keller, who abducts and tortures a man he

suspects has kidnapped his daughter. With his fellow cast members, Minnette won the

National Board of Review Award for best ensemble.

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Minnette's next project was a leading role in this 2014 family comedy. Minnette played

Alexander's older brother, Anthony, an accident-prone teen dealing with the drama of an on-again/off-again

relationship with his girlfriend, while also struggling to pass his driving test ...

"I'll be your driving examiner."

"I don't think he passed."

Oops. But check out that Clay Jensen-esque forehead bandage: How uncanny is that?

Goosebumps

Minnette jumped into the spooky world of R. L. Stine in this 2015 comedy as Zach Cooper,

the fictionalized Stine's unassuming neighbor. The film follows Zach as he settles into his

new, small-town Maryland home after moving from the Big Apple … and accidentally brings

Stine's scary stories to life ...

"Maybe they're friendly?"

"Not friendly! Definitely not friendly!"

Don't Breathe

Minnette's most recent appearance on the silver screen was in this claustrophobic 2016 horror

gem as Alex, one of three friends who gets trapped inside the house of a terrifying character

known as "The Blind Man." Alex struggles to make it out alive, facing multiple deadly

obstacles on his way.

But that's not all...

Still don't know where you've seen Minnette? How about his 2009 appearance as Danny Carter

in season four of Supernatural? Or as a teen accused of murder on the supernatural

drama Medium?

Or maybe his 2012 appearance on Law & Order: SVU as a troubled teen entangled in a sexual

assault case? What about his role as the icy supervillain Blizzard on Marvel's Agents

of S.H.I.E.L.D.?

Or maybe you saw him get whacked on the heart-stopping political drama Scandal, where he played the

president's doomed son? That'd be lucky 13.

Coca-Cola Freeze Test 5 Hours Redmi 4A-Will it Survive? Non Water Proof Xiaomi Smartphone Durability - Duration: 3:44.

Whtisup guyz!

In this last durability test of the Xiaomi Redmi 4A, letz put it through a Coca-Cola

Freeze Test for about 5 hours!

In the last 4 Test's, it had proved its durability with flying colourz but let's see if it can

survive this time around after The Freeze Test!

I'm particularly nervous because the Redmi 4A is NOT Water Proof or even Water Resistant!

--inTro-- 1st let us open up the bottle & prepare a

Pool of Coca Cola inside this Tupperware container!

And, dropping the Redmi 4A in the Coke, I have kept it switched ON throughout the test

to know what difference or damage it does to the functioning of the phone!

Now lets proceed towards the Deep Freeze section of the Fridge! …setting it right in the

middle!

And starting the Stop Watch to time the entire test!

Let's hope the phone doesn't get permanently damaged after the freeze test is done (:

OK, so now its over 5hrz and its time to head-on over to the Freezer!

5 hrz inside liquid for a non-waterproof phone may do some serious damage like short-circuiting

& I sure hope it survives!

Let'z open the boX & checkout the phone!

It seemed to be dead but surprisingly it was still powered-ON!

After about 2 minutes, the SIM got activated and the signal came back!

The touchscreen though wasn't responding and that might have been because of all the moisture

& condensation on the Display.

But even after wiping, it did not work.

Also keeping it inside Uncooked Rice for 24hrz to remove all moisture did not work!

So, the only solution left was to take it to the Xiaomi Service Center!

And according to the Service Center, the Touchpad got damaged & to change that will cost you

₹2500/- bucks without any guarantee!

The Redmi 4A can survive a Water Submersion Test for 30 secondz as you might have seen

in my previous Videos but if it stays under Coke for 5 hrz then it can damage the functionality

of the Touchscreen!

The Dress Shape That Looks Good On Everyone - Duration: 4:16.

Finding the perfect dress shape to flatter your body type may seem like a tall order.

But believe it or not, there is one silhouette that looks good on practically everyone.

And as a bonus, it's totally effortless to wear and versatile enough to work for every

occasion.

Yes, really.

Meet the A-line dress, also known as the fit and flare.

Just like its name suggests, this particular garment shape features a fitted bodice, a

tapered waistline, and a skirt that gradually flares out from the hips all the way to the

bottom seam.

The A-line is a truly fantastic, as it offers ease of wear and will score you major fashion

points thanks to the timeless and effortlessly chic look it helps create.

So what's the deal with this dress?

Let's take things from A-line...to Z.

The term 'A-line' was first coined by iconic haute couture designer Christian Dior, although,

at the time, it didn't accompany the exact same dress shape that's associated with the

name today.

Dior's A-line dresses still had the same snug waist and flared skirt effect and made their

debut in Dior's Spring 1955 collection, which was simply titled "A-line."

Needless to say, it was the beginning of a silhouette style that would span the generations.

Three years after the A-line's debut, Dior's assistant, fellow French designer Yves Saint

Laurent, took up the mantle of his mentor's creation.

Following Dior's unexpected death in 1957, Laurent was tapped to become artistic director

of the fashion house.

He was the one who designed the A-line as we know it today.

The designer's first solo collection for the House of Dior, dubbed "Trapeze," featured

a dress of the same name which bore a striking resemblance to the fashion philosophies of

his predecessor.

And thus, the A-line survived its originator and became a staple of the style world forevermore.

So what is it that has helped this style withstand the test of time and maintain its popularity

and versatility for decades?

The fact that it creates a show-stopping, ultra-feminine hourglass figure without the

constraints of a tight bodice certainly has something to do with it.

Those with a pear shape are often drawn to the flare of the skirt, which accentuates

and places the focus on the waist, drawing the eye away from the bottom half of one's

body.

Less curvy women, on the other hand, appreciate the illusion of curves that the nipped-in

waist creates.

The narrow shoulders of the dress and flared skirt also help the torso look smaller and

more lean.

Another convenient aspect of the A-line option is that the length of the skirt can be tailored

to perfectly fit anyone's height and elongate the body.

Whether it be mini or midi, the skirt shape can be customized to flatter all types of

silhouettes.

Petite ladies can opt for a mini version and their legs will instantly look longer, while

taller women will find a midi version, which hits at the knee — or right below it — to

have the same elongating effect with the perfect amount of coverage.

The A-line dress also comes in a floor-length maxi version for an extra touch of glam.

A-line dresses also come in countless colors and fabrics, which means there's truly a perfect

one for every occasion.

Thinner cotton or polyester blend versions in solid tones can be just the thing for casual

summer outings with friends or — dressed up with some key accessories — they can

become ideal for office wear.

In winter, A-line dresses are easily layered over stockings and under fitted blazers, making

them a great choice year-round.

Meanwhile, bolder occasions, be it date night, a birthday party, you name it — call for

bolder colors and patterns, which are also readily available.

But it doesn't stop there.

A-line dresses can also make the perfect wedding dresses.

An A-line wedding dress can help ensure you're comfortable all day long.

Rather than having to constantly worry about everything being in place, you'll be able

to focus on more important things, like eating cake and dancing the night away!

To this day, countless brands, from fast fashion retailers to haute couture houses, continue

playing with the A-line shape.

Louis Vuitton, for example, went as far as to close Paris Fashion Week in Fall 2012 with

help from one dominant silhouette — yep, the good ol' A-line.

Meanwhile, the Yves Saint Laurent label remains one of the biggest proponents of the style,

which makes total sense considering its namesake was the one who helped launch the trend into

existence in the first place.

How to Pitch White Label Services? - ✉Cold Email Teardown✉ - Duration: 5:30.

In today's video, I want to run through a cold

email from ReachFlare, and go through some stuff

they can do better.

ReachFlare, as far as I understand it, is a

blogger outreach service, that randomly reached out

December 7, 2016, and I didn't respond.

It's been buried in my inbox since.

So, in today's video, I want to run through line by line

how they can improve the email, and hopefully

this is something you can use to improve your cold emails.

Let's jump into it.

Okay, so here's the email from ReachFlare,

and you can pause the video and read this on your own time.

I don't really want to go through this horrible email.

When you're going through, and you're trying to see

how to improve your cold email outreach campaign,

so the first place I always look is the subject line.

When you break down point by point what the reasons are

somebody might not be responding to your emails,

point number one is that they might not even

open the emails.

So when you look at a subject like,

Business Proposal, White Label Blogger Outreach Service,

this is the type of subject line that does not get opened.

This might even be the type of subject line that gets

put in spam.

Normally, I'll recommend something like,

question about company, or big fan of company.

But actually, what you see here is ...

This entire email is not customized at all, it's not,

"Hello Alex", it's just "Hello".

It's like they're blasting it out and spamming it

to as many people as they can.

So I'm gonna add customization to this email.

Something like that, like, "Alex, need blogger outreach?"

That's gonna get me to open it, for sure.

It's got my name in it.

So moving on to the rest of the email, always start

with customization.

So instead of "Hello", you know, "Hi Alex".

The other thing to really make sure and dig into when

you're looking at your own cold emails, is you don't want

any wasted words or sentences.

Because otherwise, you're wasting people's time.

So, when you see something like,

"Greetings from ReachFlare", if you have anything like that

in your emails, just pull that out.

So, Hi Alex, I am Daniel Smith and I am part of the

client management team at ReachFlare.

Random bolding, not sure why.

We offer white label sponsored posts advertising services

through blogger outreach.

We manage a thousand plus high quality websites

with good SEO metrics in various niches like health, home,

and lifestyle, travel parenting, skin care and beauty,

technology, business, et cetera.

So, when you're mentioning the niches that you provide

in an email, it's very important that you mention only

niches that apply to the type of person you're

reaching out to.

So, if he's reaching out and trying to do PR for either

Experiment 27, or this YouTube channel, Alex Berman,

that sort of stuff,

then I would only talk about technology and business.

So none of these other niches make any sense

to have in here.

The other thing to make note of, especially if you're

doing your agency pitches, is when you show stuff like,

"We built a thousand high quality websites",

there is a limit to how high you can go before

it seems super sketchy.

So, me as an agency owner who has sold websites in the past,

built some websites, when I see a thousand high quality

websites, that means that they're not good, right.

Or the system that they're offering is super cheap.

So I'll come back to that sentence in a second.

All of this is said in an extremely wordy way.

I don't even want to mention the typos.

But if you notice, the last two cold email teardowns,

this one and the last one, both had a bunch of random

typos in there.

So if you're sending cold email campaigns, if you just

check for typos, you'll be already ahead of most people.

This is a partnership email.

Daniel Smith is asking if any of our clients need

white labeled outreach.

So, he should say something about our company that makes

me want to reply to him.

On that note, I just want to check LinkedIn, and see

if Daniel Smith is a real guy,

'cause that sounds like a made up name.

Just as I thought, always make sure you're sending emails

from real people, because, you see how easy that was

for me to just look up the name and the company.

If you don't have a LinkedIn, and you're a sales guy,

that usually means you don't exist.

So let's rewrite this email to make it a little better.

So, even off the bat, just by changing this customization,

your response rate's gonna go up.

So, Hi Alex, found Experiment 27 while looking through

the top marketing services on Google, and figured you'd

find this interesting.

If you're finding a top list from a Quora answer,

or wherever they come from, that's where you can update it.

So then I'll rewrite the second part of this.

Okay, so I rewrote the middle section.

It's a lot more streamlined now.

So this is what we have now.

Hi Alex, Found Experiment 27 while looking through

the top marketing services on Google, and figured

you'd find this interesting.

Advertising through sponsored posts brings highly

targeted traffic, and also optimizes brand's search

results in Google.

We've worked with dozens of clients in the business

and technology niche to get them ranked,

people very similar to your clients.

If you wanted to get more detailed, I would list a couple

of the clients.

People like KZ, KZ, and KZ, and all three of those

would be from the business and technology list.

Ideally, people that your target has heard of.

Would you be open to a quick call to learn more?

You could add a ton of value to your clients by

while labeling our work.

The other thing is, when this original email came through,

it did have an attachment.

So let's check out the attachment.

So this is their entire deck, basically.

On some of the cold emails I've seen from,

from you all, I've seen this as well,

where you're attaching your deck on the first email.

It's not a good idea, and the reason why that is,

is almost nobody's gonna look at this, or even really care.

The best way to get somebody to look at your deck

is to get them to ask for it.

So, "would you be open to a quick call to learn more",

could also be, "would you be open to some more info".

And if they say yes, then you send the deck.

But I would try to have that first call to get their needs

and get their goals, before sending any sort of attachment

or deck over.

Feel free to like this video to encourage this type

of content on YouTube.

RUTH GRAHAM, AND DAVE MEYER.

JOYCE: YOU WANNA REALLY MAKE THE DEVIL MAD?

TRUST GOD AND ENJOY YOUR LIFE WHILE GOD IS SOLVING

YOUR PROBLEM.

JOEL: SO QUIT TRYING TO FIGURE IT ALL OUT AND SAY,

"GOD, I'M GONNA TAKE THE LIMITS OFF OF YOU.

I KNOW ONE TOUCH OF YOUR FAVOR CAN GET ME

TO WHERE I'M SUPPOSED TO BE."

ANNOUNCER: EARLY BIRD PRICING ENDS MAY 31 SO REGISTER TODAY.

THE 2017 LOVE LIFE WOMEN'S CONFERENCE.

[MUSIC]

JOYCE: HOW CAN YOU CHANGE?

NOT BY HEARING MESSAGES AND GOING HOME AND TRYING

TO MAKE THEM WORK IN YOUR LIFE.

MY GOODNESS, I TELL YA WHAT, IF YOU'RE AS BAD AND I WAS,

I NEEDED EVERYTHING I HEARD, EVERYTHING.

AND EVERY PREACHER GAVE ME SOMETHING DIFFERENT TO DO.

I WAS TO MAKE CONFESSIONS, AND GET UP EARLY AND PRAY,

AND WE HAD THE READ THE BIBLE THROUGH IN A YEAR PLAN.

AND, YOU KNOW, I MEAN IT WAS JUST ONE THING AFTER ANOTHER

AFTER ANOTHER.

AND THEN I WOULD HEAR MESSAGES ABOUT BEING CAREFUL

WITH YOUR MOUTH AND NOT TALKING TOO MUCH.

AND I HAD TO HEAR MESSAGES ABOUT THE MIND AND SO I WOULD DECIDE

THAT I WAS GONNA GO HOME AND NOT SAY ANYTHING SO THAT WAY

I DIDN'T MAKE ANY MISTAKES WITH MY MOUTH.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: COME ON, YOU KNOW WHERE I'M AT?

AND THEN I'D JUST BE REAL SUPER QUIET.

THEN PEOPLE WOULD SAY, "WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?"

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: AND THEN I'M LIKE, THAT FIGURES.

YOU DON'T LIKE IT IF I TALK.

YOU DON'T LIKE IT IF I DO TALK.

PEOPLE JUST AREN'T HAPPY NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO.

BUT HERE'S THE WILD THING THAT I NOTICED, WHEN I SHUT

MY MOUTH AS AN ACT OF DISCIPLINE,

I WOULD GET DEPRESSED.

BY THE TIME LATE IN THE AFTERNOON CAME,

I WAS SO DOWN AND I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND.

I SAID, "GOD, WHY DO I FEEL SO DOWN?

I'M JUST TRYING TO DO WHAT YOU WANT ME TO DO."

AND THIS IS WHAT THE LORD SPOKE TO MY HEART, HE SAID, "YOU SHUT

YOUR MOUTH BUT NOTHING'S CHANGED ON THE INSIDE.

AT LEAST WHEN YOU WERE TALKING, YOU LET SOME OF THE PRESSURE

OUT, NOW IT'S ALL IN THERE."

WELL YES, WE SHOULD RESPOND TO THE MESSAGES THAT WE HEAR,

BUT WHAT WE NEED TO DO IS GO HOME AND SAY,

"YOU KNOW, GOD, I WAS REALLY CONVICTED BY THAT WORD

TONIGHT.

THAT REALLY TOUCHED MY HEART AND I REALLY WANT TO GROW

IN THAT AREA.

AND SO, HOLY SPIRIT, I'M ASKING YOU TO TEACH ME IN THIS AREA

AND, GOD, I NEED YOU TO CHANGE ME BECAUSE I KNOW

THAT I CANNOT CHANGE MYSELF."

AND THEN YOUR PART IS TO STUDY THE WORD IN THAT AREA

BECAUSE THE WORD OF GOD CONTAINS THE POWER TO SAVE YOUR SOUL

ACCORDING TO THE BOOK OF JAMES, CHAPTER 1.

THE WORD OF GOD, IF RECEIVED IN MEEKNESS, CONTAINS THE POWER

TO SAVE YOUR SOUL.

SO, OUR PART IS NOT TO GO HOME AND TRY REALLY HARD TO CHANGE,

BUT IF YOU FEEL LIKE YOU'VE GOT A MOUTH PROBLEM, THEN GO HOME

AND READ EVERY BOOK YOU CAN FIND ON THE MOUTH.

I'VE GOT TWO OR THREE OUT THERE PLUS A BUNCH OF CDS, AND DVDS,

AND EVERYTHING ELSE 'CAUSE I HAD A LOT OF MOUTH PROBLEMS

SO I TEACH ON THAT A LOT.

YOU GOTTA HAVE THE WORD.

WE ARE CHANGED BY THE POWER OF GOD'S WORD AND OUR PART

IS TO STUDY THE WORD.

AS WE LOOK INTO THE WORD OF GOD FAITHFULLY, WE ARE CHANGED

INTO HIS IMAGE FROM GLORY TO GLORY TO GLORY.

"IF YOU CONTINUE IN MY WORD," JESUS SAID IN JOHN 8, "THEN ARE

YOU MY DISCIPLES INDEED AND YOU WILL KNOW THE TRUTH

AND THE TRUTH WILL MAKE YOU FREE," AMEN?

SO, I CHANGED MY TRYING FOR TRUSTING AND I DECIDED

THAT I WOULD TRY TO LIVE THE SAME WAY THAT I WAS SAVED.

"GOD, YOU GOTTA HELP ME.

GOD, IF YOU DON'T CHANGE ME, I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S

GONNA HAPPEN, BUT THIS IS IT.

IF YOU DON'T CHANGE ME, THIS IS WHAT YOU'RE STUCK WITH."

THERE'S NO POINT IN PROMISING GOD, "OH GOD, PLEASE,

IF YOU'LL JUST FORGIVE ME, I'LL NEVER DO IT AGAIN.

PLEASE GOD, JUST FORGIVE ME AND I'LL NEVER DO IT AGAIN."

WHY DON'T YOU JUST TELL THE TRUTH AND SAY, "GOD, I TRUST

THAT YOU WILL FORGIVE ME BECAUSE YOUR WORD SAYS THAT YOU'VE

ALREADY PAID FOR ALL MY SINS SO I RECEIVE YOUR FORGIVENESS

AND I RECEIVE YOUR MERCY.

AND I'M JUST GONNA KIND OF BE HONEST WITH YA AND TELL YA,

IF YOU DON'T HELP ME, I WILL DEFINITELY DO IT AGAIN."

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: AND I'M NOT SUGGESTING THAT WE MAKE NO EFFORT,

BUT IT'S NOT A FLESHLY EFFORT THAT WE MAKE, AMEN?

IS ANYBODY IN THE BUILDING WORN OUT FROM TRYING?

HOW MANY OF YOU ARE JUST TRYING REALLY HARD TO BE

A GOOD CHRISTIAN?

YOU KNOW, A GOOD CHRISTIAN IS AN OXYMORON.

THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS A GOOD CHRISTIAN.

IF WE COULD BE GOOD, WE WOULDN'T NEED CHRISTIANITY.

NOW, I KNOW YOU'RE GONNA HAVE TO THINK

ABOUT THIS A LITTLE BIT.

ANY GOODNESS WE HAVE IN US CAME FROM GOD,

IT'S NOT OUR OWN GOODNESS.

AND ANY GOOD THING THAT WE DO, WE GIVE THE GOD THE PRAISE

FOR IT AND THE CREDIT FOR IT AND WE KNOW RIGHT THEN,

"I'LL NEVER DO ANOTHER GOOD THING IN MY WHOLE

LIFE IF YOU DON'T HELP ME."

I'M TALKING ABOUT DOING EVERYTHING WITH AND FOR GOD

AND GIVING HIM THE CREDIT AND THE GLORY.

THE SAME WAY YOU WERE SAVED, THAT'S THE SAME WAY WE NEED

TO LEARN HOW TO LIVE.

GOD IS NOT FOR SALE AND WE CANNOT BUY HIM

WITH OUR GOOD WORKS.

AND WHEN WE DO GOOD THINGS, GOD DOESN'T OWE US ANYTHING

BECAUSE WE DID.

COME ON, COME ON, IF YOU GET UP AND PRAY THE FIRST 2 HOURS

OF EVERY DAY AND YOU READ 6 CHAPTERS IN YOUR BIBLE

EVERY MORNING, GOD DOESN'T OWE YOU ANYTHING.

SO, THEN WHEN YOU HAVE A PROBLEM AND GOD DOESN'T SHOW UP

THE MINUTE YOU THINK HE SHOULD, YOU CAN'T KIND OF THINK

ABOUT "WELL, YOU KNOW, I MEAN, I PRAY 2 HOURS EVERY DAY."

EH, BETTER WATCH IT, BETTER WATCH IT.

DOESN'T IT MAKE YOU MAD WHEN GOD BLESSES SOMEBODY THAT ISN'T

NEARLY AS SPIRITUAL AS YOU ARE?

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: 'CAUSE SEE, WE THINK IF WE'RE GOOD, THEN GOD OWES US

AND WE SHOULD BE THE ONES THAT GOD JUST DOES EVERYTHING

FOR, BUT WE NEED TO GET RID OF THAT ATTITUDE

THAT, "I'M GONNA DO THIS SO I CAN GET SOMETHING FROM YOU."

ANYTHING GOOD THAT WE DO, IT--YOU KNOW, I REMEMBER

ONE MORNING THE LORD SAID TO ME, "WILL YOU STOP ACTING

LIKE YOU'RE DOING ME A FAVOR WHEN YOU READ THE WORD?

I ALREADY KNOW IT."

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: YOU'RE READING IT FOR YOU.

WE'RE NOT DOING GOD A FAVOR.

WE DON'T GET SOME KIND OF CHECKMARKS

ON OUR HEAVENLY WORKS CALENDAR WHEN WE READ THE BIBLE

OR WHEN WE PRAY.

WE PRAY IF WE'VE GOT ANY BRAINS AT ALL SO WE CAN GET HELP

FROM GOD.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: PRAYER IS A PRIVILEGE, IT'S NOT AN OBLIGATION

AND A DUTY, AND READING THE WORD IS SMART.

IT SHOWS YOU HOW TO MANAGE AND RUN YOUR LIFE IN A WAY

WHERE YOU CAN HAVE THE MOST BLESSED LIFE

THAT YOU COULD POSSIBLY HAVE.

NOW, LET'S LOOK AT A VERY INTERESTING SCRIPTURE,

LUKE 17:7 THROUGH 11.

I DON'T KNOW THAT I'VE EVER SHARED THESE SCRIPTURES

FROM THE PULPIT, SO HERE IT GOES.

YOU SAY, "UH-OH, A SCRIPTURE SHE'S NEVER SHARED."

"WILL ANY MAN OF YOU WHO HAS A SERVANT PLOWING

OR TENDING SHEEP SAY TO HIM WHEN HE HAS COME IN

FROM THE FIELD, COME IN AT ONCE AND TAKE YOUR PLACE

AT THE TABLE?

WILL HE NOT INSTEAD TELL HIM, GET MY SUPPER READY AND GIRD

YOURSELF AND SERVE ME WHILE I EAT AND DRINK; THEN AFTERWARD

YOU YOURSELF SHALL EAT AND DRINK?

IS HE GRATEFUL AND DOES HE PRAISE THE SERVANT BECAUSE HE

DID WHAT HE WAS ORDERED TO DO?" NOW, WATCH VERSE 10, "EVEN SO

ON YOUR PART, WHEN YOU HAVE DONE EVERYTHING

THAT WAS ASSIGNED AND COMMANDED YOU, THEN YOU SAY, WE ARE

UNWORTHY SERVANTS [POSSESSING NO MERIT, FOR WE HAVE NOT GONE

BEYOND OUR OBLIGATION]; WE HAVE [MERELY] DONE

WHAT WAS OUR DUTY TO DO."

MIKE LOVES IT, HE'S THE ONLY ONE IN THE BUILDING THAT LOVES IT.

SO, WHAT'S HE SAYING?

AFTER YOU'VE DONE YOUR FULL DUTY TO GOD, AFTER YOU HAVE LOVED HIM

WITH YOUR WHOLE HEART, AFTER YOU HAVE SERVED, AFTER YOU'VE

TITHED, AFTER YOU'VE BEEN REGULAR IN CHURCH, AFTER YOU'VE

DONE ALL THESE THINGS, THEN YOU SAY, "GOD, I STILL DON'T DESERVE

ANYTHING BECAUSE I CAN NEVER DO ENOUGH GOOD TO EARN

YOUR GOODNESS IN MY LIFE.

AND SO, I'M GRATEFUL FOR EVERYTHING THAT YOU DO

FOR ME."

YOU SEE, WHEN YOU DON'T THINK THAT YOU DESERVE ANYTHING, YOU

GET HAPPY AND GRATEFUL ABOUT EVERYTHING THAT GOD DOES

FOR YOU.

DOES ANYBODY UNDERSTANDING ME?

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: SO, WE WANNA WORK, BUT WE DON'T WANNA GET

INTO WORKS.

WORKS OF THE FLESH IS OUR ENERGY TRYING TO DO WHAT ONLY GOD

CAN DO.

SO, HERE'S WHAT WE DO, WE DO WHAT GOD GIVES US TO DO

AND THEN WE TRUST GOD TO DO WHAT ONLY HE CAN DO.

AND HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN YOU'RE IN WORKS OF THE FLESH?

WHEN YOU START FEELING FRUSTRATED BECAUSE BOY, DO WE

GET FRUSTRATED WHEN WE'RE TRYING TO MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN

THAT ONLY GOD CAN MAKE HAPPEN.

I USED TO GET SO FRUSTRATED AT DAVE, SO FRUSTRATED

AT MY KIDS.

I WAS MAD AT ONE OF MY KIDS BECAUSE THEY WERE JUST LIKE ME

AND I DIDN'T LIKE THAT 'CAUSE THEY WERE ALWAYS TRYING

TO CONTROL ME AND BUCK UP AGAINST MY AUTHORITY.

THAT WAS MY OLDEST SON.

AND THEN MY OLDEST DAUGHTER WAS LAZY AND SLOPPY

AND I DIDN'T LIKE THAT.

AND MY YOUNGER DAUGHTER WAS AN EXTREME PERFECTIONIST AND I

DIDN'T LIKE THAT EITHER BECAUSE SHE WAS SO...

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: SHE'D DO HER HOMEWORK AND JUST BE IN HER ROOM

AND IF SHE MADE ONE LITTLE TINY MISTAKE

ON THE PIECE OF PAPER, SHE'D WAD IT UP AND THROW IT AWAY.

AND I WOULD BE LIKE...AND I'M TRYING TO CHANGE THIS ONE,

TRYING TO CHANGE THAT ONE, TRYING TO CHANGE THIS ONE,

TRYING TO CHANGE THIS ONE, TRYING TO CHANGE DAVE,

TRYING TO CHANGE MYSELF.

DOES ANYBODY GET THE PICTURE?

AND I WAS LIKE...OH, I WAS SO THANKFUL WHEN I

FINALLY REALIZED THAT I COULD NOT DO THAT, BUT GOD

COULD MAKE EACH ONE OF US TO BE WHAT HE WANTED US TO BE

IF I WOULD PUT MY TRUST IN HIM.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: SOME OF YOU HAVE GOT SOME PROJECTS THAT YOU NEED

TO GIVE UP ON AND YOU NEED TO TURN THEM OVER TO GOD

TONIGHT BEFORE YOU LEAVE THIS BUILDING.

AND THEN YOU KNOW WHAT'S LEFT TO BE DONE?

YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO ENJOY YOUR LIFE.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: COME ON.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: YOU MIGHT ACTUALLY BE ABLE TO ENJOY YOURSELF

WHILE GOD'S CHANGING YOUR HUSBAND.

YOU SAY, "WELL, WHAT IF HE NEVER CHANGES?"

WELL, THEN I GUESS IF HE NEVER CHANGES, YOU'LL JUST TRUST GOD

TO GIVE YOU ENOUGH GRACE TO PUT UP WITH IT WITH A SMILE

ON YOUR FACE.

YOU WANNA KNOW THE TRUTH?

DAVE HASN'T CHANGED MUCH, WELL, HE HASN'T.

HE STILL DOES ALL THE THINGS THAT USED TO AGGRAVATE ME

BUT NOW, LO AND BEHOLD, GOD CHANGED ME AND NOW I DON'T CARE.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: I MEAN, IT'S TRUE.

I DON'T CARE IF HE GOES HOME AND PLAYS GOLF WHEN WE GO HOME

FROM THIS CONFERENCE.

I USED TO GET SO MAD WHEN WE'D GO HOME FROM A CONFERENCE

AND HE'D GO RIGHT OUT AND PLAY GOLF.

I MEAN, THE PITY PARTY WAS ON.

"WELL, I WORKED ALL WEEKEND.

I'M TIRED AND EVERYBODY JUST TAKES EVERYTHING I'VE GOT

AND THEN THE PARTY'S OVER AND I'M JUST HERE ALL WORN OUT.

AND YOU GO OUT AND PLAY GOLF AND NOBODY CARES ABOUT ME."

AND I SAID TO HIM YESTERDAY, "WHY DON'T YOU GO PLAY SOME GOLF

WHEN WE GET HOME TOMORROW?" WE'RE GONNA GET--'CAUSE SEE, NOW

I'M JUST LIKE, "OH MAN, I CAN HAVE THE HOUSE QUIET

AND BY MYSELF.

AND I'LL BE IN CHARGE OF THE REMOTE AND I CAN EAT

WHAT I WANT."

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: AND THAT'S A--WE LOVE EACH OTHER MORE THAN EVER,

BUT I'VE GOTTEN SMARTER.

DON'T FIGHT A BATTLE THAT YOU'RE NOT GOING TO WIN.

I BETTER SAY THAT TO THESE PEOPLE,

DON'T FIGHT A BATTLE THAT YOU'RE NOT GOING TO WIN.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: HOW ABOUT SOME OF YOU GUYS UP THERE?

DON'T FIGHT A BATTLE THAT YOU'RE NOT GOING TO WIN.

AND SEE, WE THINK, "WELL, I JUST CAN'T STAND IT

IF YOU DON'T CHANGE."

YES, YOU CAN.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: JUST GET YOUR MIND OFF WHAT SOMEBODY'S NOT AND LET GOD

WORK ON YOU AND DON'T BE SO UPTIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING

ALL THE TIME.

YOU KNOW, RIGHTEOUSNESS IS A WONDERFUL TEACHING

IN THE BIBLE.

"AND HE THAT KNEW NO SIN BECAME SIN THAT WE MIGHT BE MADE

THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD IN CHRIST," WOW.

WHAT A GREAT EXCHANGE.

HE TAKES YOUR SIN AND GIVES YOU HIS RIGHT STANDING WITH GOD.

GOD VIEWS US AND SEES US AS IN CHRIST.

WHEN YOU COME TO GOD AND ASK FOR SOMETHING IN JESUS' NAME,

THE BIBLE SAYS, IN THE AMPLIFIED BIBLE IT SAYS,

"YOU ARE PRESENTING TO GOD ALL THAT JESUS IS."

YOU'RE NOT PRESENTING YOUR OWN RECORD OF GOOD WORKS.

EVERY TIME YOU SAY, "IN JESUS' NAME," YOU'RE SAYING,

"AND DO THIS FOR JESUS' SAKE BECAUSE HE DESERVED IT,

HE EARNED IT, AND I'M ONLY HERE TO RECEIVE IT.

I DON'T DESERVE IT, THAT'S WHY I DON'T COME IN MY NAME,

I COME IN HIS NAME."

THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT IN PRAYING IN JESUS' NAME.

AND PAUL PRAYED IN PHILIPPIANS 3.

THESE ARE THE THINGS SOMETIMES THAT IT'LL BE FUN JUST TO HAVE

ABOUT A 3-DAY BIBLE STUDY AND JUST SIT DOWN

AND GO THROUGH SCRIPTURE AFTER SCRIPTURE AFTER SCRIPTURE

AND LET PEOPLE ASK QUESTIONS AND REALLY GET 'EM

A BREAKTHROUGH IN THESE AREAS.

PAUL SAID, "THAT I MIGHT BE FOUND AND KNOWN AS IN HIM,

NOT HAVING ANY SUPPOSED RIGHTEOUSNESS BASED

ON MY OWN WORKS BUT ONLY THAT TRUE RIGHTEOUSNESS

THAT HE CAN GIVE THAT IS RECEIVED BY FAITH

AND FAITH ALONE."

CAN YOU BELIEVE TONIGHT THAT AS MUCH AS YOU HAVE DONE

WRONG IN YOUR LIFE AND AS MUCH AS YOU WILL STILL DO

WRONG IN YOUR LIFE, THAT IF YOU HAVE RECEIVED CHRIST

AS YOUR SAVIOR, THAT RIGHT NOW, WHILE YOU'RE STILL DOING THINGS

WRONG, THAT GOD VIEWS YOU AND SEES YOU

AS HIS OWN RIGHTEOUSNESS.

THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT YOU DO EVERYTHING RIGHT, BUT IT MEANS

THAT GOD HAS GIVEN YOU HIS RIGHT STANDING, AND NOW

BECAUSE YOU HAVE A SEED OF RIGHTNESS IN YOU,

YOU WILL BE ABLE TO PRODUCE RIGHT BEHAVIOR AS YOU CONTINUE

YOUR WALK AND YOUR JOURNEY WITH GOD.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: BUT I TELL YA WHAT, I KEPT TRYING TO BE RIGHT,

TRYING TO BE RIGHT.

I TRIED TO READ THE BIBLE THROUGH EVERY YEAR

WITH A BUNCH OF OTHER PEOPLE IN MY CHURCH 'CAUSE I THOUGHT

THAT WOULD BE RIGHT.

AND WE HAD AN INTERCESSOR COME TO THE CHURCH AND SHE PRAYED

EVERY DAY FROM 5 TO 9 AND I TRIED TO DO THAT 'CAUSE I

THOUGHT THAT WOULD BE RIGHT.

GOD WOULD BE HAPPY WITH ME IF I DID THAT.

AND I PRAYED THE FIRST 5 MINUTES AND THEN GOT BORED SILLY

AND DIDN'T KNOW WHAT I WAS GONNA DO FOR THE NEXT 3 HOURS

AND 55 MINUTES.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: AND FINALLY HAD WHAT I NOW LOVINGLY CALL A PRAYER NAP.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: DO ANY OF YOU HAVE PRAYER NAPS?

I LOVE THOSE.

AND GOD GAVE ME THIS EXAMPLE, IT'S ACTUALLY SOMETHING HE SPOKE

TO MY HEART, HE SAID, "YOU KNOW, JOYCE, YOU'RE SPENDING YOUR LIFE

TRYING TO GET WHAT YOU'VE ALREADY GOT."

HE SAID, "IT'S LIKE TO TRYING TO GET IN A CHAIR

YOU'RE ALREADY SITTING IN."

SO, I'M SITTING IN THIS CHAIR SO NOW IF I STARTED

TRYING TO GET IN THE CHAIR THAT I'M SITTING IN--

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: BOY, THIS IS SO ABSOLUTELY

TOTALLY FRUSTRATING.

SEE, THAT'S WHAT WE DO TO OURSELVES WHEN WE TRY

TO GET WHAT GOD HAS ALREADY GIVEN US.

THAT'S WHY WE NEED TO KNOW WHO WE ARE IN CHRIST AND UNDERSTAND

THE FINISHED WORK OF THE CROSS AND WHAT HE HAS ALREADY DONE

FOR US.

AND WE NEED TO, WHILE WE'RE STILL NOT PRODUCING ALL OF IT,

STILL BELIEVE THAT IT'S OURS AS OUR INHERITANCE FROM GOD.

WE ARE NOT LABORERS, WE ARE INHERITORS.

DO YOU KNOW--AND IT JUST DOESN'T SEEM FAIR AT ALL

THAT OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN WILL GET

WHATEVER MONEY WE HAVE LEFT AND WHATEVER PROPERTY WE HAVE

LEFT THAT WE WORKED FOR, AND WE EARNED, AND WE DESERVED,

AND THEY'RE JUST GONNA GET IT.

ALMOST MAKES ME SOMETIME JUST WANNA SEE HOW FAST

I CAN SPEND IT.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: NO, NOT REALLY, I DON'T FEEL THAT WAY AT ALL

BECAUSE I LOVE THEM.

AND ACTUALLY, I FIND MYSELF TRYING TO PRODUCE WAYS THAT I

CAN BE A GREATER BLESSING TO THEM.

WELL, IF WE CAN FEEL THAT WAY IN OUR HUMAN STATE,

HOW MUCH DO WE THINK THAT GOD FEELS THAT WAY ABOUT US?

THE WILL HAS BEEN SIGNED WITH THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST.

WE ARE INHERITORS.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: AMEN?

YOU HAVE INHERITED RIGHT STANDING.

BECAUSE JESUS IS RIGHTEOUS, YOU GET WHAT HE GOT.

LET ME TELL YA SOME OF THE THINGS

THAT THE BIBLE SAYS THAT WE ARE TO RECEIVE.

AS USUAL, I'M ABOUT FOUR PAGES BEHIND ON MY NOTES.

RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT.

JUST TAKE A FEW MINUTES EVERY MORNING AND SAY,

"HOLY SPIRIT, I RECEIVE YOUR FULLNESS TODAY.

STRENGTHEN ME TODAY AND ENABLE ME TO DO EVERYTHING THAT I DO

WITH A GOOD ATTITUDE AND GOOD TEMPER."

AND THEN JUST TAKE A MOMENT AND RECEIVE.

I THINK WE THINK THAT PRAYER IS NONSTOP TALKING.

[MUMBLING]

TAKE TIME AND RECEIVE.

"I RECEIVE YOUR PRESENCE, GOD.

I RECEIVE YOUR MERCY.

I RECEIVE YOUR FORGIVENESS."

WE DON'T TAKE THE TIME TO DO THAT.

THE BIBLE SAYS, "ASK AND RECEIVE THAT YOUR JOY MIGHT BE FULL."

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT.

RECEIVE THE WORD WITH MEEKNESS.

"AS MANY AS RECEIVE AND WELCOMED HIM, HE GAVE THEM THE POWER

TO BECOME THE SONS OF GOD."

RECEIVE FORGIVENESS OF SINS.

RECEIVE THE GRACE OF GOD.

RECEIVE YOUR INHERITANCE.

RECEIVE MERCY FOR YOUR FAILURES.

RECEIVE THE RESULT OF YOUR FAITH.

RECEIVE ALL THE GOOD THINGS THAT GOD HAS CREATED

WITH THANKSGIVING AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE POWER

WHEN THE HOLY GHOST HAS COME UPON YOU.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: DO YOU KNOW THAT WE RECEIVE EASIER FROM THE DEVIL

THAN WE DO GOD?

HOW MANY OF YOU ARE REALLY GOOD AT RECEIVING CONDEMNATION

AND GUILT?

OKAY, LET ME TELL YA A LITTLE BIT ABOUT GUILT.

YOU KNOW, REALLY WHAT IT IS, IT'S OUR WAY OF TRYING TO PAY

GOD FOR THE MISTAKES WE'VE MADE.

WHO WOULD DARE TO THINK THAT THEY COULD MAKE

A BIG MISTAKE, RECEIVE FORGIVENESS, AND JUST GO ON

AS IF NOTHING HAPPENED?

HMM, I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU, BUT I USED TO HAVE MY SINS

DIVIDED UP IN CATEGORIES, SMALL, MEDIUM, AND REALLY BIG.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: A SMALL SIN, I'D ONLY HAVE TO FEEL GUILTY

MAYBE HALF A DAY.

MEDIUM SIZE SIN, A COUPLE OF DAYS.

BUT BOY, IF I DID A REALLY BAD THING THEN I WAS

ON A 2 OR 3 WEEK GUILT TRIP.

AND GOD TAUGHT ME YOU'RE JUST TRYING--YOU'RE JUST FEELING

BAD AS A WAY OF PAYING FOR YOUR SINS, BUT THEY'VE

ALREADY BEEN PAID FOR.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: THEY'VE ALREADY BEEN PAID FOR.

IF THEY'RE PAID FOR, THEN YOU DON'T NEED TO PAY, AMEN?

OH, I GUESS I NEED TO GO SLOWER.

I DON'T KNOW THAT YOU GUYS ARE REALLY GETTING IT.

WELL, YOU CAN'T JUST DO SOMETHING BAD THEN JUST GO HAVE

A GOOD TIME.

WELL, I MEAN, IF YOU REALLY BELIEVE THE WORD, I THINK

FROM WHAT I'M SEEING, YOU CAN.

AND THAT DOESN'T MEAN YOU'RE NOT GENUINELY SORRY.

THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT YOU'RE NOT REALLY, REALLY SORRY

FOR WHAT YOU DID, BUT IF WE BELIEVE THE BIBLE, THAT HE

COMPLETELY CLEANSES US ONCE AND FOR ALL BY HIS BLOOD,

HE REMOVES OUR SIN AS FAR AS THE EAST IS FROM THE WEST

AND HE REMEMBERS THEM NO MORE, THEN MAY I MAKE A SUGGESTION?

STOP TALKING TO GOD ABOUT THINGS THAT HE'S FORGOTTEN.

OKAY, WE RECEIVE FEAR FROM THE ENEMY.

WE RECEIVE HIS LIES.

WE RECEIVE NEGATIVE FEELINGS ABOUT OURSELF.

WE RECEIVE SHAME.

WE RECEIVE GUILT.

WE RECEIVE DISCOURAGEMENT.

WE RECEIVE DEPRESSION.

WE RECEIVE DISAPPOINTMENT.

I AM NOT GONNA SPEND THE REST OF MY LIFE BEING BETTER

AT RECEIVING FROM THE DEVIL THAN I AM FROM GOD.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: I'M GOING TO BE A GOOD RECEIVER.

GOD IS TRYING TO TEACH US THAT WHEN WE DO SOMETHING WRONG,

HE WOULD MUCH RATHER THAT WE RECEIVE HIS MERCY

THAN TO TRY TO GIVE HIM A SACRIFICE TO MAKE UP

FOR WHAT WE DID BECAUSE WE DO THAT BY FAITH.

IT'S ALMOST TOO GOOD TO BELIEVE, ISN'T IT?

I THINK PROBABLY THIS IS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT PEOPLE

LOVE TO HEAR THE MOST WHEN THEY HEAR THE TEACHING

OF GOD'S WORD IS THAT THEY ACTUALLY REALLY CAN GET OVER

THE THINGS THAT THEY'VE DONE WRONG AND GO ON

WITH THEIR LIFE AND NOT EVEN SMELL LIKE SMOKE.

ISN'T IT GOOD TO KNOW THAT YOU CAN GO IN THE FURNACE

OF AFFLICTION AND COME OUT AND NOT EVEN SMELL LIKE SMOKE?

JOYCE: NOW, IF WE REALLY WANNA ENJOY OUR LIVES,

WE NEED TO KNOW HOW TO BELIEVE GOD'S PROMISES AND TO RECEIVE

ALL THAT HE HAS FOR US.

I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU, BUT I SPENT A LOT OF YEARS

JUST RECEIVING THE LIES OF SATAN BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW

ANY BETTER.

AND I'M SO GRATEFUL NOW THAT WILL I'VE LEARNED

THAT HE IS A LIAR, THAT I CAN RESIST HIM,

AND TO INSTEAD OF DOING WHAT I USED TO DO,

I CAN NOW RECEIVE THE GOODNESS OF GOD INTO MY LIFE

AND YOU CAN TOO.

NOW TODAY, WE'RE OFFERING YOU COUPLE OF RESOURCES.

AND, YOU KNOW, THE WORD OF GOD, THERE'S NOTHING MORE IMPORTANT

Writing Conflict | How To Create Conflict In Your Novel - Duration: 6:41.

Today we're talking about the key to a good story: conflict. You can have great characters

and a perfect world, but without conflict, aka the problem (or most likely problems,

plural) that your character must tackle or face during your plot, you won't have much

of a story at all.

When I was younger, I really liked a TV show called the Vampire Diaries. One of my favorite

things about it wasn't the magical elements or characters themselves, as fun as they

were, but the way the plot built upon itself. After the first six introductory episodes,

the plot of the show progressed in such a way that you couldn't miss a single episode

without getting hopelessly lost.

It didn't really have filler episodes, a term that means something similar to a placeholder,

which means a story that doesn't really help or further the plot. Keeping a

viewer on a constant edge of suspense is crucial for TV because they need to maintain interest

over the breaks between episodes.

But maintaining interest between chapters, or even between scenes, is important for novelists,

too.

The Vampire Diaries succeeded in maintaining interest by always escalating their plot.

They did this by escalating conflict.

It's easy to think of conflict in bigger picture terms, the biggest or final obstacle your

character will face, but it can be a lot more subtle.

There are typically multiple types of conflict in a novel.

There's internal conflict, aka the feelings, worries, and inner motivations your character

is working through along their journey.

There's your overarching conflict, which is that big, looming problem that feeds most

of your plot.

There also can and should be conflict among the relationships your main

characters have with other people.

A good way to start brainstorming conflict is figuring out what your character values.

Start pulling these apart. Do any of their values conflict with each other? Do they contradict

themselves? An easy way to start fleshing out a villain is to give them opposite values

to your main character.

This works for more than just your arch nemesis. You can find conflict in

anything's values, not just people. Most characters should have something about them

that brings a spark to their interactions with each other. If characters start off with

a happy and calm relationship, you need to find something to pry them apart if you want

an interesting storyline.

This is why stories very rarely start out with future love interests already together.

Watching characters struggle along and do all the hard work to find their happily ever

after is what makes us root for them, what makes it worth all the chaos in the end. This

is also why stories that typically start with someone already happy soon find their lives

irreparably broken as a catalyst to start their journey.

And in that way, you can create larger conflict by pitting characters with conflicting values

against each other like the villain mentioned earlier. You can do this not only by making

sure important characters have opposing values, but by forcing these characters together.

Maybe they have to work together to save someone or something. Maybe each has something the

other wants. Conflict naturally occurs when very different people must somehow figure

out how to work together.

"Okay," you say. "So characters need to have problems with each other. Got it.

What else? There's more to a story than just relationships." You're right!

Conflict can also come from within a character and almost always should, even and especially

if you have other types of conflict in your story. The root of what makes a person tick

always feeds into the decisions they make.

Are any of your character's values directly challenged by their environment? By the obstacles

they face? If your character is loyal, find a way to test their commitment. If they are

wholesome, lead them to temptation. If they are naive, challenge the worldview they've

come to know.

For all the importance in subtle or smaller conflict, your story is dead in the water

without an overarching problem. In Conflict and Suspense by James Scott Bell, your main

plot problem is defined as either physical, professional, or psychological. This is the

conflict that's Life or Death to your character, whether or not they'll actually die if they

don't succeed.

Physical death means a true life or death ultimatum facing your main character. High

physical stakes like a fight to the death or racing a ticking clock.

Professional death is the death of your character's career. Examples could be a lawyer fighting

to win one last case, a doctor trying to cure a rare disease, a

soldier trying to prove their loyalty—something that if they fail means the end of the career.

Psychological death is similar to professional in that's the threat of losing everything

that makes them who they are. This sort of threat would attack a character's moral

convictions, if they fail in this they can no longer pretend to be who they say they

are.

Both psychological and professional death could also tie in with a threat of physical

death, but it's important to know which one you focus on. You can only really prioritize

one as the main conflict line of your story.

Then, once you've figured out what your main issues are… Raise the stakes! Escalate

that tension and get readers hooked. I may be dramatic, but my favorite plot points

are moments when you can't go back.

An important factor to consider when building conflict in your plot is pacing. You can have

great scenes of action and growth, but if that's followed by pages of exposition or

chapters where nothing happens your suspense will quickly dry out. It doesn't matter how

your book starts, if you don't keep the line of tension tight all your efforts will fall

away.

But how do you keep raising the stakes? How do you keep the tension?

Start out small. Conflict can start from something as simple as feeling uneasy, suspicious, concerned.

You can build momentum from awkward first impressions, mistrust, disbelief. The smaller

you start, the more room you have to grow.

It's important to consider the order in which your plot moves forward. If you have

a character rescue hostages in one scene and then have them doing paperwork in the next,

don't be surprised if readers complain. The papers they're going through might be

a crucial clue, but you must always be reaching higher until you hit the climax of your novel.

Once you've hit the climax, things naturally start to simmer down a bit.

You can also take advantage of conflict by drawing it out. If, for example, the only

way to save the trapped hostages is to find an important document without raising suspicion,

paperwork suddenly becomes a nail biting experience.

Be careful not to drag things out too long, or tension will start to slip again.

But if you can find a way to make the mundane exciting, you'll have a better time getting

readers past less action packed pieces of information.

Keep an eye out for repetition. Some tactics are better than others for igniting tension

and suspense, but readers have sharp eyes. They'll notice if you use the same situations

over and over again.

Some familiar tropes can't be avoided, but they can be inverted. If you need a certain

type of scene or experience in your novel, try to brainstorm ways you can make it new

or unique. A new perspective can definitely make old ideas exciting again.

9 STATES ON ALERT AFTER THEFT OF RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL IN MEXICO - health - Duration: 3:20.

9 STATES ON ALERT AFTER THEFT OF RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL IN MEXICO

Officials in Mexico issued a nine state alert following the theft of a vehicle in Tlaquepaque

in Jalisco that held mobile industrial radiography equipment that was filled with Iridium-192.

Tecnologia No Destructiva, the company handling the equipment reported the theft of a white

Nissan pickup on Sunday.

They said that the truck contained a metallic box with tools for radiography inside, which

were filled with Iridium-192.

UNKNOWN QUANTITY OF RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS STOLEN

The theft of what is an unknown amount of radioactive materials then led to the head

of national emergency services issuing an alert over nine states.

Luis Felipe Puente went on Twitter to issue a public search alert regarding the materials

that had been stolen in Jalisco, Durango, San Luis Potosi, Zacatecas, Colima, Aguascalientes,

and Guanajuato.

Puente warned the general public that anyone coming across it much handle it with extreme

caution.

He went on to say that Iridium-192 may cause permanent injury to anyone who is in contact

with it, even for a short time.

Anyone who finds the stolen vehicle or who finds the contents is asked not to open the

metal box and call the authorities straight away said the head of National Civil Protection

Coordination.

NOT THE FIRST TIME RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS WERE STOLEN IN MEXICO This isnt the first time

that radioactive materials have been stolen in Mexico, in fact, it is very common.

Only last year a container filled with a radioactive substance that was to be used for industrial

x-rays was stolen along with the vehicle it was being carried in.

Thefts of radioactive material also occurred in April 2015 and back in July 2014.

In the incident, in December 2013, the thieves were not aware of the contents they had stolen

with the vehicle.

They stole a vehicle that held medical equipment which came with cobalt-60, a highly radioactive

material that may be used when making what is known as a dirty bomb, said the IAEA, the

nuclear watchdog of the UN.

RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS USED IN DIRTY BOMBS Dirty bombs typically contain conventional

explosives to help to spread the radioactive material, which causes injury along with creating

social disruption thanks to evacuation, the clean-up of any property that has been contaminated

and economic costs associated with it.

The agency has worked tirelessly for many years to try to increase the protection of

radioactive materials along with the facilities that deal with them in the member states.

Police officers arrested five individuals, all of whom were sent to the hospital, who

were involved in the incident and all survived; police also recovered the radioactive material.
