hi everyone so I thought to do an update on our whole IVF journey. The second one
work that we're going to be sharing so I've had lots of questions over on
Instagram and Facebook there lots of private messages because a lot of you
are like going through it or thinking of going through it and stuff and lots of
well which has been lovely I haven't been able to answer people's questions
because I didn't even know who's going to be going on yet but we finally had
our first proper consultation with our consultant this week and if you're
on Instagram you would have known that that happened as I shared in the
morning that we were going and I took some vlog clips but because it was
such a like an emotional and a rush kind of day, the childcare with Josh and
everything, that I thought I would probably need to chat with you and then
I will show you bits as we go along from the day. But so the first thing I
probably should tell you is that we're doing it through an insurance scheme
which is really really new I think that they do this in like America and stuff I
think it's quite new to the UK. Came across it by accident and we're
basically we we pay upfront for three rounds of IVF and which is a lot of
money but if all three rounds don't work for this scheme then we get our money
back at the end which means we could then use it for more IVF or towards
adoption or you know whatever. I'll just go traveling for year, I dunno! so um so
that is a massive difference in this this round of IVF we are going to be
doing IVF we've donor eggs again and so yeah we met our consultant which was
doctor Eddie Osagi I think that's how you say i.t I
was so ridiculously nervous on the way down because whether you get on with
your consultant is such a massive thing whether you feel listened to, whether you
feel like their heart is in the right place and it's not a money-making thing
and whether I feel like I can ask those kind of awkward or embarrassing
questions and we're really lucky that he seemed so lovely
He put us at ease within seconds and I felt like he explained things really well and
also I was asking about lots and lots of different tests I've heard of
particularly with finding out what hasn't worked in the previous times and
and I've heard bad stories from other people who've said that their their
clinics have said yeah have all these thousands of thousands of pounds worth
of of tests and that they've kind of not really needed in the end and I was really
reassured that he was like actually just have this one first and we'll see how we
get on and it is like step by step and it doesn't feel money-grabbing because
that was my worry so on the way down I wrote this massive list of
questions with Steve who hasn't really been that involved so far because he's been
mainly like away at work every time I've been booking things he's been doing
other things so this was probably the first one that he's been properly
properly involved and the first time we could get really excited about it
Steve is like super chilled out about the whole thing and but he kind of he
will think that he's chilled out at some times and I'll be able to see that he's
a bit stress so it won't come out about the IVF stuff it will come out in
something else so like for example on the way down there on Tuesday he was
like yeah chilled out, no stress and then as soon as he couldn't like work
the carpark machine and needed change and stuff he'll I could see him get more
stress than he normally would and panic. He went and panic baught coffee just so
you could get some change we're giving up coffee so some little things like
that I can kind of see it in him that he is he's nervous about it but most of us
are just looking at Josh and being like I just really want to see you with a
little brother or sister. the appointment lasted for like two hours because we had
to fill in loads of consent forms so it's consent for using the donor eggs
there is a consent for what would happen with them afterwards, what would
happen if Steve was to pass away and there's embryos left, that kind of thing
there's thunder outside that's quite exciting so the office that we went to
is on Harley Street and and the clinic that we'll be at is called care
in London although the consultant is actually from a different clinic but
they kind of just satellite down in London to do it with them asked. We asked
all our questions. Signed everything. Then me and Steve we actually bumped into randomly
into emily hartridge who I don't know if any one of you know her but she has a
YouTube channel she's really really funny and me and Josh went to do
like a filming thing with her
think it was for channel 4if I remember rightly and God like last year and Josh
fell over and like busted his lip she came out with Peppa Pig and like saved the
day like she's really really lovely with kind of stayed in contact online
so she was like I recognized your skirt she knew what we were doing that
day because of Instagram so it was really nice to see her and she recommended
us to go to a restaurant called ethos which we did after which was just like a
vegan restaurant best food ever is a tad expensive and but we were kind of
celebrating that day so and then after that we went like we had a bit of time
afterwards for a train so because when we had Josh and I had a necklace I
bought just before and which had an elephant on it and it kind of became bit
of a like symbol for him and and it's like my lucky
necklace so I wanted one for this time and obviously I'm not trying not to
spend like loads and loads of money because you want that aside for IVF
and tests So we just went to top shop and I got this one
which is so if you can see like little lotus and so the symbolism of that,
I guess in kind of like Buddhist circles is lotuses grow in the mud but they self
clean and they're become beautiful so it's kind of like out of a shitty
situation something amazing can come which was good for this so I'm
going to try and wear that all the way through. If you see me out at any point please don't like
read into it it'll just mean that I forgot to put it on after shower and
So everything that was decided. I had to write it
down and we're going to be doing IVF with donor eggs and with ICSI
and so with donor eggs and Steve's sperm they are going to undergo genetic
testing is it called PGD testing I'll write it on here somewhere which is part
of this insurance scheme they did that as standard so that is to check which ones
are like the strongest and healthiest and meant to have most
chance of implanting and to do that they have to, once they were made into embryos,
once they fertilized into embryos, they have to freeze them and so
we'll have like a little bit of time after the whole egg retrieval and Steve
given his part and to wait while they're being tested and stuff and then we'll
have an implantation I'm going to have the endometrial scratche where they
scratch up inside your womb. I'm really nervous about this and please if
anybody's had this before tell me if it's like painful or any tips or
anything for it because it just sounds horrible somebody scratching you inside
doesn't sound good does it. Hopefully it'd be fine but I think it would be
worth it because very there is some kind of research about it maybe helping with
the implantation. I'm also going to have a test for natural killer cells
I have auto immune conditions so I have observe a premature
ovarian failure and also I have Hashimoto's hypothyroid so because of
those there's a chance it could be not implanting because of natural killer
cells or any immunology type things so the first test I'm going to have is the
natural killer cells and we'll see how that goes and see if I need any more and
that would then change the medications that would have doing it. We were given loads of
advice on like health stuff and like going to give up caffeine, some vitamins and
stuff to take, that kind of thing and I feel like I can now. Up till now it's
been really hard to do any of those things even though I kind of need
them because didn't have a date of when this is going to be happening but I
do now so I feel like yeah let's do this and there's going to be some other
differences are thinking like the medications and things like that but um
yeah we're going to see how that all goes. the big thing I need to tell you is
last time we shared and the whole journey pretty much by daily vlogging
I wasn't planning to but when we got to Prague I just
like I wanted to because you guys were just so supportive and it was so it kind
of kept me going and it gave me something else to think about like to
edit is quite therapeutic for me so um this time we definitely want to share it
and we'll share all of what we did last time probably a bit more even than what
we did last time but we're going to share it afterwards
so this will probably be my last big update until we share everything
afterwards partly because there's lots of differences in this round of
treatment that I'm really excited to tell you about but I think we should
tell you at the end and partly because I'm working full time this time and Josh
is more full on so I think it's kind of yeah probably going to be a little bit
less stressful to do it that way and I know I'm going to really miss like
just encouragement because just posting on Tuesday to say we're going to some
consultation you guys were just amazing it really like lifts you up in like a
difficult situation so um I don't know follow me on Instagram if I feel like I
can share something that's probably where I'll share it
but yeh it's all going to be still going to happen in this summer um and I just
feel like it it feels different this time
we've actually been given am success rate of 75 percent which is a massive
jump from like 25 that it roughly it's normally and but that is if our embryos
are healthy and if after the genetic testing we've got enough healthy so it
does depend on a lot of things but that's given me a lot of confidence and
and just a lot of hope. I'm just feeling really good about this round
particularly with all the differences that there are and I just feel like
finally have got like the hope back what would be helpful right now is whether
you watch these just because it's out of interest or a long-term like subscribe
or whether you watch them because you are going to be going for IVF or
anything is please please leave down below what would you like to see out the
process like what's the stuff that really interests you that you're curious
about you'd like to learn about or questions that you have because you're
going to be going through it like it would really help me to know then what
bits to vlog as we go through it and what to show you at the end
I'd like it to be something that is is really helpful I'll still be doing no
more videos twice a week anyway throw your baby dust ass and I'll see you in
the next video
