Draw Tip Tuesday - Gouache and Pen - Duration: 2:24.

Today we'll use gouache paint water a brush and a black fineliner

Gouache is kind of

like watercolor paint but it's opaque

and it dries a little faster

i'm mixing yellow and blue to create green and i'm

adding white for a bit of pastel tint

I keep mixing my paint until I am happy

with the color and then i use it to draw

a pattern of shapes

I decide to do pear shapes and I'm not

too concerned about the placement of the

shapes as long as the white space

between them is sort of equally divided

the shapes are more like pear-shaped

blobs and that's okay it doesn't have to

be neat or perfect

now this has to dry and once the paint

has completely dried pick up the fine

liner to make these paint blobs into cute pears

add a stalk and a leaf and

look at how you can make use of the

white space filling it with the leaves

use hatching lines for some fun texture

you can do vertical lines or horizontal

lines or combine them maybe you can fill

one or more of the leaves with lines but

keep it simple! play around try different

colors and shapes do and see what you

can come up with: apples, pumpkins or

maybe something that isn't edible but

that has a recognizable shape that you can

use in a pattern like this

In this book here I write down conversations that I have with students

I take notes

and they have a lot of the same problems in English

so I wanted to address one of those problems in English which is (looks for page 129)

What to say after someone says "Hello!"

Someone says, "Hello, how are you?"

the traditional response is

"I'm fine, how are you?"

It's a joke in some countries

that English has this robotic way of people responding that is very polite

"How are you?

I am fine.

How are you?

I am fine."

That' s OK for a business meeting

If you want to go a little bit deeper in English

and respond when someone asks how you are

these are some of the things you can say that are quite polite

you can vary your answer

you can say

"I am well!"

or

"I'm feeling fine!"

or

"Everything's going great!"

all very positive things to say

or

"All is well!"

a friend of mine says

"Always fine!"

"Always fine!"

I like that response because it's so positive

I have another friend who says

"I'm awesome!"

and smiles and nods

that's a very happy response to

"How are you?"

It gives the other person a smile and a positive feeling about asking

There was a song a long time ago

where this guy said

"I get better looking each day"

which I thought was a very funny thing

I love this country song that this guy did

To know me if to love me I'm a heck of a guy

Oh Lord it's hard to be humble when you are perfect in every way

I love to look in the mirror I get better looking each day

It was a very silly song and a big hit for this singer

I used to sing this song when I was a little kid

because I thought it was so funny

so sometimes when someone asks me

"How are you?"

I say

"I'm awesome!"

or

"I get better looking each day"

Sometimes they laugh and agree

sometimes they don't

But since I've been exercising

and may have lost as much as one kilo (2 pounds)

I'm feeling better and looking better

People notice my new health kick

(a new health campaign)

so these are all ways to respond when someone says

"How are you?"

that are very positive

Sometimes you hear a non-native English speaker say

"I'm so-so"

No one cares

If you say something like that that's kind of negative

there's really no where to go in the conversation that's positive

and I think between a new acquaintances or new friends (or colleagues)

you can have something more positive to say

If you are so-so and you don't feel so great

you can talk about that with someone you know well

but I like to give happy responses

because life is full of great things

despite the news I was just reading it made me sad

too much turmoil in the world

so I thought I would list out these different phrases

that express something positive

so today I'm going to go for a bike ride

and when I stop and I'm huffing and puffing

wondering how did I ever get this fat

What happened along the way?

I was so strong when I was young

so if someone asks me

"How are you?"

I can say

"I'm getting better!"

All great things to say in English that are positive and can give the other person a smile

or show that things are well for you

"I get better looking each day!"

"To know me is to love me!"

"I'm a hell of a guy!"

"I love that song!

Professor Jordan Peterson of the Unifversity of Toronto has been described as a Free Speech Hero, and I couldn't agree more.

And I would agree with that

He uploaded several videos on Political Correctness, at the end of Spetember 2016

that caught him in a whirlwind of protestors, media coverage, and a fair share of support as well.

He's been interviewed by many people from Dave Rubin to Joe Rogan to Gad Saad,

Today, we're going to be counting down my favourite Jordan Peterson quotes.

The Free Speech Rally was like something George Orwell would've written

When Peterson took the podium, you could hear people chanting "Shame! Shame! Shame!"

I felt like I was watching a war between good and evil and good prevailed, but only slightly because evil... evil will do anything to win.

I was at this infamous Free Speech Rally and I stood behind Jordan Peterson before he took the mic, but I was too shy to talk to him

But I did manage to meet Lauren Southern

I got a selfie with Lauren and she told me I looked like a hot feminist.

I have mad respect for the girl debating him in this clip

I wish both sides would come together and have an open discussion

I love that he's a psychologist and what he's giving the world is an expert look at how our society needs freedom of speech to function.

I find it really funny when these young people who got all their knowledge from tumblr try to challenge someone like Professor Peterson, who is educated in history

He's warning us

The whole idea that the point of the university is to make people feel secure and comfortable, that is so bloody insane that its almost unspeakable. Its not a kindergarden. Its not a daycare. Its not a place for fun. Its a place to learn about the human soul, and the human soul is half evil.Sometimes even more than half.

the universities bowing down to the demand of trigger warnings and safe spaces are in direct conflict with what the true mission of a university is. To learn about ourselves, to learn about human nature, to find our truth, to challenge our view of the world. Its not to be protected from ideas and play with playdoh

That is fucking heavy shit. And you know what, it's something I needed to hear. It freaked me out a lot at first, because I know that its true. And its fucking unpleasant to think. Its terrifying. But by being aware of my own capability for doing evil, that means I have a better chance at wrestling with my demons and actually winning.
