this video is a buyer's guide in
review of the primary arms micro red dot
now to be specific we're talking about
the second generation version with
detachable base now if you're looking at
optic and trying to decide if it's right
for you or not the value of this video
is that I've already done the research
for you in effect what follows is like a
sum of all the reviews all the good and
bad alike that was identified about this
optic is what's coming up next on spadezilla
the main thing to keep in mind is that
we are talking about a value red dot now
in practical terms this means that while
the manufacturer is trying to give you
as much functionality as possible
they will inevitably be trade-offs to keep
the price point down
value for money is the number one thing
that people love about this optic and
the primary reason to consider buying it
the two M.O.A. dot now this is a very
popular feature that people love about
the optic and is in fact one of the reasons
people choose this optic over others
by way of comparison many of the primary
arms competitors will give you a three
or four M.O.A dot so if you prefer the
smaller dots size this is a very good
option to consider
quality of construction now in
proportions with price point the primary
arms received a lot of praise and people
typically will describe it as basically
being an aimpoint t1 clone however
they'll go on to clarify and say that
unlike a lot of the cheap knockoff out
there on the market which incidentally
often at the same price point as the
primary arms people describe the primary
arms is having a much higher quality of
construction and in regards to features
people very much appreciate the fact
that is fully multi-coated is waterproof
and has been nitrogen purged
overall people report that this optic
holds its zero
the fact that with the current version
you can do a lower one third co witness
if you so desire
now this option has become available as
a result of the emitter that for the red
dot itself having been moved from the
old six o'clock position to a 4:30
position thus freeing up the space at the
bottom of the tube to allow you to do
the lower one third co-witness
the optic is described as having
relatively good glass which is good for
its price point and good enough to use
a magnifier with the optic is you so
desire
Primary Arms use of the commonly
available
cr2032 battery
with the detachable bass removed the
optic is compatible with aimpoint t1
mounts which gives you a lot of options
in regards to the brightness adjustment dial
I'll there are 3 comments that are
commonly made first up is that the clicks
while adequate and not particularly
positive the second comment that
comes up a lot is that the dial is a
little bit on the stiff side to turn and the
third comment is that to go from the
off setting all the way up to the maximum
brightness sitting at a 11 you do
need to turn the dial all the way up
through the numbers to reach 11 now
this is in comparison with some other
optics whereby you can turn the dial in
the opposite direction and basically go
from off to maximum brightness in one
click
the optic has a one-year warranty and
the customer service from what i can
tell has been described as being good
now the reason i put this under the
neutral or debatable category is because
while a one-year warranty is a good
thing and perhaps acceptable for a value
optic it is a little bit on the light
side and there are competitors out there
that have warranties for great periods of
time
it has been noted by some reviewers that
the windage and elevation caps lack a
built in adjustment tool for adjusting
the windage and elevation now granted
this is a pretty minor shortcoming and
this is why i put it under the neutral
category
in the interest of thoroughness i'd like to
note that they were few reviewers who
complained about defective looking red
dots either a double red dot starburst
effect or some complaints about the
red dot washing out at higher brightness
settings now to be fair to the
manufacturer these complaints were very
few in number and i think a lot of them
can be written off as perhaps user error
or users with astigmatisms however some of
the complaints were no doubt related to
faulty products and obviously this is
where it's good to have a warranty as
mentions this is low numbers we're
talking about here and this is why i put
it under the neutral category
as is common with value red dots the
glass is described as having a green hue
however you'll be pleased to know that
users report that is over a reasonable
level and not as bad as a lot of other
value red dots on the market
once again in the interest of thoroughness
there were a few complaints about wandering
zeros but to be fair i do to suspect these
were due to an issue with the detachable base
which i will be talking about very soon
be advised this optic is made in china
battery life the specifications advise
that you can expect up to 1000 hours at
the medium brightness settings and while
I acknowledge that this is good compared
to some optics it has to be said that
there are other optics out there at
similar price points that give you
considerably longer battery life
there's really only one topic about this
optic that I'd put in the sucks category
and that is a screw stripping issue in
regards to the detachable base basically
the detachable base has four screws in it
and there are a lot of reports of people
having issues of these screws stripping
out now the easy fix is obviously just
awareness if you know that they can easily
strip out you know you can avoid the
problem and to be fair to the
manufacturer they do put in their
instructions that you should make use of
thread locker i.e. they're trying to tell
you don't use too much brute force
put more reliance on thread locker
to get a good solid mount that said it is
a weakness in the product that it can so
easily strip out and this is why i put
it under the sucks category
I'm going to suggest that this optic is
a good option to consider the uses 1 through to 4
and i'm going to exclude 5 6 and 7
now I'll give you the rationale for the
exclusions first up number seven go to
war that's easy to explain it is a value
red dot it was never intended to be a
military grade red dot that you
would take to Afghanistan with you in
regards to home defense and law
enforcement I've excluded it not because
it couldn't do the job but because I
feel it's not ideally suited to these
roles and the primary reason here is due
to the battery life what I'd want to
suggest to you is that in these
applications you really wouldn't want
any niggling doubt in the back your mind
as to how much battery life was left
in the optic when you really need it
thus if your primary reason for looking
at a red dot is to mount on the home
defense gun or for law enforcement i would
recommend looking at other options
conversely if your primary users are
going to be 1 through to 4 then it is a
good value option to consider
that concludes the considerations
that I identified in my research into the
primary arms micro red dot if you'd like to
check the current pricing the amazon
