hello everyone this is an alien
spaceship a small fighter craft
custom-built to go with my bad guys that
I came up with for my personal lego
universe and and backstory the build
itself is small and not particularly
impressive to look at but I think the
backstory is noteworthy and particularly
the the effort that went into building
this which really is not proportionate
to the outcome so let me give you some
context especially for folks who haven't
followed along for a long time I've got
this idea of bad guys in a kind of
sci-fi future somewhat futuristic world
and you know I've got this planetary
defense force set up for my city that
I've been working on for quite some time
don't have the base finished yet but
I've got the basis for it finally in in
terrain and the planetary defense force
is going to be protecting the planet and
this is the first main bad guy force
these are some of the the individuals of
different classes from the aliens that
have yet to be named I did a video on
these when I came up with them as as a
design study basically but we've got bad
guys white is their colour scheme that's
their their base color and they don't
deviate from it too much and I finally
wanted to do something for them to to
use for some something for them to pilot
and I decided to start with a
single-seat fighter I had a general idea
for their design that the type of
designs that they would use bubble
cockpit has been something that I've
been thinking of for at least a year now
and I've actually collected a number of
clear wind screens that are very large
from Lego to build future larger craft
but just to kind of kick things off for
our first attempt I wanted to do
something small and this right here is
almost the exact shape that came to mind
this is almost exactly what I saw in my
mind when I first thought about this
right first put my mind to
creating a thing and the inspiration
ultimately comes from a car ummbut
rockville style blade like this the
intent is not to replicate this shape
exactly the intent was always to take
inspiration from this sort of thing so
that's exactly what I did and I think
that as I go forward and make larger
vehicles and craft for these guys I will
take this this Hawk bill or Talon shape
and extend it and multiply it around and
such that'll be one of the common
features yeah it's it's something that's
been used quite a lot in sci-fi alien
architecture and and shipbuilding you
know in designs but I still I like it
and I feel like I can bring something
new to the space maybe maybe not we'll
see but I wanted to make this shape so I
went about making this shape now in
hindsight what I should have done was
consider this and this this will be
changed over time the more I look at it
the less happy I am with this that's
just not completely it's some kind of
outline around it it looks much worse in
this bright light here than it then it
did where I was actually building it but
things can be adjusted over time at
least the overall shape is there but
what I should have done was look at the
shape carefully and then think of how to
make that with Lego I should have
thought you know what strategies should
I follow for sideways building you know
building just in traditional ways
sandwiching things using technic frames
whatever was necessary to somewhat
approximate that shape in the most
efficient way possible with Lego I did
not do that
at all what I did was put a couple
pieces down on a table in my building
space and get a general idea of the size
house I was actually going to work out
and I just started building without any
real plan I just basically built this
almost as if I was building with clay
just applying more parts to the outside
taking some things down at
more back until I arrived at the the
final shape and in tort which ends up
being very organic and how its built
because this has building in every
possible direction now here's the thing
this took me about a week to build which
is ridiculous for for the size of it had
I approached this in a more efficient
way it should only have taken like a
couple days probably maybe maybe a few
days with similar breaks and such but
yeah the amount the number of hours that
I put into making this simple little
thing is absolutely ridiculous and
definitely not worth it for you know the
amount of time that I didn't have
anything to show to you guys on this
because it was just a work in progress
and things were changing it really
wasn't worth showing stuff that was
going to be undone at that point
especially since I didn't have a good
direction for the build
yeah it just really wasn't worth it I if
I could go back and do this again
I should not but honestly I probably
would do it again the same way because
it was a very challenging experience for
me personally and I feel like I did
learn some things and I feel like I did
expand upon my own my own tool set for a
building I mean when I look when I step
back and look at this now that it's done
or done for now at least I'm actually
pretty happy with the shape given just
how much of a strange shape it is how
much dimension there is with the
pinching down here and not having a
consistent curve in here just so much
about this does not lend itself well to
Lego builds and with this angled canopy
as well the things that had to be done
to accommodate some of these some of
these shapes was was really interesting
I think I can pull this off to show you
just a little bit of the interior of
this yeah that's not a bad spot
get just a little bit of a peek at it so
these are these are bricks that have
studs on adjacent sides two studs so one
stud here and then one on the top this
one has one here and then I think the
other ones on the bottom or might be on
the top as well but you can see that the
base is here and the base is here
they're facing towards each other the
tops are facing out so this is a top
this is a top over here this is a top
and this is also a top with studs on the
underside the gray pieces in there are
the 1 by 2 by 1 and 2/3 bricks with four
studs on one side and I've got several
of those stacked and one of them is
facing up one of them I think I think
two are facing up one is facing down or
something like that and then the plates
are actually helping to hold this whole
structure together from the from the
side that is studs facing this way to
the side the studs facing this way the
plates are really part of the the major
structure of this that that allow it to
work I believe they're right here I have
the end yeah so this brick this 1 by 1
brick right here has its stud facing
facing that way so the top is here as
this portion is being built and then it
just ends right there it's not connected
to anything at that point so some of
this structure is is held in place by
other parts deep in here which
ultimately are attached to that Center
core with the studs on the side larger
pieces the 1 by 2 by a 1 and 2/3 pieces
just a lot of a lot of building in a lot
of different directions I had to use a
number of the relatively recent it's
unfortunate that have this this hollow
stud still visible there but I wasn't
able to come up with any any good way to
cover that up just yet but had to use a
fair number of those relatively new 1 by
2 rounded plates to get this angle to
work to allow this whole structure to be
angled back and then I had to use some
proper Lego math to get that to connect
at the other end if you looked inside of
here you would see some stuff
that doesn't make sense because a lot of
it is just kind of dummies it's it's
it's pieces sets of pieces that are not
necessarily structural or that don't
serve the purpose that they appear to
but ultimately this whole canopy is
connected on on hinges or effectively
hinges that are created out of these 1
by 2 rounded plates on their sides two
of them connected to each other I'm kind
of creating a little bit of a chain by
having them at either side makes it
actually fairly secure so even though
this is a very strange build and it's
very strange in the way that it's
connected it's strong enough this
started out basically if you were to
reduce this down to its primary
structural components it would be
extremely fragile you would not be able
to hold it together but through the
process of adding things on taking
things off adding more I got more and
more things locked together that
actually made it a strong build probably
most of this means nothing to to most of
you yeah I say it's a thing where it was
all about the process and the process
took a long time a lot of effort a lot
of trial and error I reached one point
about two-thirds of the way through
where I I really felt the best thing to
do was to stop take it all apart and
start from scratch I was really at that
point after kind of getting getting
stuck as I tried to move in this
direction here and basically most of the
build was going from from this inner
curve not including this outer outer
portion just from back here out to the
front and then building back building on
top and then building out in this
direction trying to fill in things
towards the canopy area and that just it
was just interesting to me yeah
so the end result is just this small
little thing it looks like a comma
almost I mean I guess you kind of see it
as a as a blaster this way
or maybe this way blast her with a the
magazine at the base with a window in it
I don't know but that the idea was more
to be like a Karambit
and I'm actually satisfied with how it
turned out not satisfied with how little
content I was able to share with all of
you that's of use this is just it here
but I will take this theme this general
design theme and extend it into larger
things and into different builds over
time this isn't going to be something
that I'll be working on continuously
I'll be getting back to working on the
major part of my city next but you know
over over time you will eventually see
more of these sorts of builds and that
will be fixed will be made to not look
as as playing right there but yeah
that's just that week's worth of work
into one tiny little thing one small
little video that's mostly useless to
most viewers doesn't have much value to
much of anybody but at least it had some
value to me and it's a start for
something for the future that's that I
just had to share it if you get anything
useful out of that even from just
hearing of my struggles great if you
didn't my apologies and my apologies for
again not having much content to share
with all of you that's that's properly
entertaining because I've been working
on this and other things as well but
this has been that the main lego custom
build that I've been doing so it is what
it is sometimes things work out great
sometimes they don't and yeah I just
move on so I will get back to working on
more traditional City related stuff I
believe I believe over the coming few
days and I'll share that with you much
sooner then I was able to share anything
about this thanks for watching I will
talk to you again pretty soon
