Youtube daily report Jan 6 2017

There have been many questions on what is Disability, and what is Latinx.

I'm going to explain both of them,

and why they are connected.

First, Disability.

A google search will tell you that disability

is defined as "a physical or mental condition that limits

a person's movements, senses or activities."

This is slightly off, so it's important to mentioning that

disabilities can be diagnosed and undiagnosed.

Invisible illness like chronic pain, EDS,

or certain types of Spina Bifida

like my own are valid for the people who identify as being Disabled.

They have every right to do so just as a person

that has an obvious and diagnosed disability.

Disability is beautiful, those who choose to identify

or not with the term are valid.

They are valid in their experiences

and choices of life with their disability.

This is a quick overview on Disability,

but if you want more, click the card to view

the playlist of "#SpinaBifida"

where I discuss more about this topic.

Now let's move on to Latinx.

For those who may not know this fairly new but great term,

Latinx is the gender neutral alternative for "Latina" or "Latino".

And before you ask,

yes Latinx is grammatically correct

when replacing "Latinos" in speech or writing.

Latinx is perfect because it includes all genders.

The terms "Latina" or "Latino"

often times excludes those who are trans,

non-binary, and others who identify with-

other genders.

Using "Latinos" which which often times group men and women,

still excludes those who I just mentioned.

So Latinx is a great way to make our language more inclusive.

So how does Disability and Latinx connect?

You can be disabled...

y Latinx.

(sarcastically) I know, this is ground breaking stuff.

I am Latina, and I have Spina Bifida.

Also notice that I identified myself as Latina.

Latinx doesn't mean you can't use "Latina" or "Latino",

it's just a gender neutral term when you're discussing a group of people.

But you yourself, if you identify as a Latina,

go ahead!

If you identify as a Latino,

go ahead!

If you identify as something else,

and you want to use Latinx,

go ahead!

Latinx just gives people more of an option.

But anyway,

Both of my idenities

intertwine with who I am

and my experiences I go through.

And like many others who are proud of their Disability and being Latinx

these two terms are so important.

So I hope you understand a bit more on what "Disability" is

and what "Latinx" is.

In the description box, I've provided resources

to great articles to further explain disability

and further explain Latinx.

I hope you check it out.

See ya next time!

Welcome to the natural park Chicaque!

We are now at Chicaque

part of San Antonio del Tequendama

20 minutes far from Bogtoa

using the corridor Bogota - Soacha

there are 312 hectares of natural park

to come to Chicaque means to enjoy a family day

to this park

and enjoy it

it is beautiful

Chicaque was decreed a natural reserve

and we understand as a natural reserve something like this

where we are walking by

- I would call it paradise

- yeah a paradise

if I want to come camping what I have to do?

what I have to pay?

you would have to pay higher zone of camping

you have to pay the entrance and the rigth to camp

around 32.000 COP

per person

and you would have to bring all the necessary equipment

well CaminanTr3s we are quite close to the place where we are staying

we are stopping at this place

You Now Have A New Organ: Meet The Mesentery! - Duration: 4:04.

Oh man, that guy is a total pain in the mesentery, you know what I mean?

What's up DNews friends, Trace here.

Last year was crazy.

I mean, at the start of 2016 we had, like, 50-some organs tucked into our bodies according

to Merck, but by the end of 2016, we had one more -- the mesentery!

That's right, science has just reclassified the mesentery from a group of tissues to an

organ!

You likely have no idea what the mesentery is, which is fine.

Just know it's a fold in the lining of your abdomen (as if it wasn't crowded enough

in there) and it suspends and attaches intestinal organs to the abdominal cavity; it also transports

lymph and blood to the gut.

One of the first to describe it was Leonardo da Vinci, and throughout history, doctors

have debated whether each part of the mesentery is individual -- each intestine had it's

own -- or if it was one complete thing.

In a new study in The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology, researchers finally lit the

mesenteric candle, outlining and clarifying the mesentery's structure, from a bunch

of individual tissues, to one whole organ.

They claim that while it's specific function (aside from suspension) is unknown, it is

definitely all one thing.

Once the study was published, I guess that makes it official, reversing "over 100 years

of anatomy."

Woo, celebrate!

I say, "I guess" because there's not exactly some worldwide regulatory group for

organs.

We just… decide that something is a system, organ, tissue, or group of cells based on

what it's made of!

We all know what cells are, the most basic form of life.

But, when enough cells with a similar function and construction get together, they become

a tissue!

Then, if different tissues work together: that's an organ!

Organs together?

A SYSTEM.

Want some examples?

Red blood cells are cells, but taken together, they're a connective tissue!

But the platelets, antibodies, white blood cells and whatnot… those need blood vessels

to move through the body.

Blood vessels are collections of different tissues, and thus are organs, and, of course,

the heart is an organ.

Taken together, these organs and tissues form part of the circulatory system.

So, this new organ which "hasn't been acknowledged much as of late," according

to the researchers, has now been defined as a group of tissues working together inside

the gut.

Which is exciting!

Though, the "discovery" of new body parts does happen.

In 2015, a study was published in Nature detailing a possible new part of the body: a lymphatic

vessel system that drains the BRAIN ITSELF.

Previously thought to not exist, it was right there in the mouse brain from the study…

we should have it too, they figure, but we just didn't know these "central nervous

system lymphatic vessels" were there…

Chances are, the mesentery's designation isn't going to be life-changing for you,

but we'll see!

The incredible thing about organs, is that once we realize something is an organ, we

can diagnose disorders and diseases using the organ as a basis.

For example, understanding that there are central nervous system lymphatic vessels in

brain could help people suffering from "MS, Alzheimer's or autism!"

So, once researchers determine exactly how the mesentery normally works, then doctors

can figure out what is abnormal, and begin to build the field of mesenteric science -- which

could have implications for abdominal diseases.

In fact, it's already started.

The lead researcher convinced Gray's Anatomy of the Human Body, (Grey's with an A) that

the mesentery was an organ last year when they updated their manual.

So now, med students may only know it as a single organ…

And history marks yet another tiny turning point in the twisting bowels of science.

Which sort of begs another question…

why isn't all scientific knowledge free?

Luckily for you, we looked into that here.

What do you think about our new organ?

Sexy?

Keeping you in suspense?

Really got you in the gut?

I'll stop.

Tell us in the comments, and please subscribe for more DNews and thanks for watching.

Disney's Moana - How Far I'll Go - Cover by TrebleSketch - Duration: 2:46.

[Ambience/Instrumental]

I've been standing at the edge

Of the water long as I can remember,

Never really knowing why.

I wish...

I could be the perfect daughter

But I come back to the water

No matter how hard I try.

Every turn I take

Every trail I track

Every path I make

Every road leads back

To the place I know, where I cannot go

Though I long to be...

See the line where the sky meets the sea?

It calls me!

And no one knows,

How far it goes.

If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me

One day I'll know...

If I go there's just no telling how far I'll go.

I know everybody on this island

Seems so happy on this island; Everything is by design.

I know everybody on this island

Has a role on this island, So maybe I can roll with mine.

I can lead with pride

I can make us strong

I'll be satisfied if I play along.

But the voice inside sings a different song.

What is wrong with me?

See the light as it shines on the sea?

It's blinding!

But no one knows

How deep it goes.

And it seems like it's calling out to me

So come find me,

And let me know...

What's beyond that line? Will I cross that line?

[Key Change] See the line where the sky meets the sea?

It calls me!

And no one knows

How far it goes.

If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me,

One day, I'll know,

How far I'll go! ~

I love my kegerator, but is it saving me money? - Duration: 3:01.

So, I was brewing my own beer and after a couple batches I found that I hated cleaning

bottles.

Naturally, I moved to kegging but it turns out that it's difficult to force carbonate

without refrigeration.

So I built a keezer.

It's fairly common for my hobbies to increase in complexity but also I thought that a kegerator

would be cheaper in the long term.

It was a lot of fun to build but has it actually saved me money?

Lets assume that you don't hate yourself and you aren't buying bargain basement beer.

A 6 pack of craft beer will likely run you about 9 dollars.

At 72 ounces a six pack that's 12.5 cents an ounce.

So how much is the per ounce cost of a keg?

I can get a 1/6th barrel at my local brewery for $60.

That comes out to 661 ounces and puts the per oz cost at 9 cents.

Now you might be saying, "Ahhh ha! but kegerators use electricity and that will eat into your

savings" and "But wait, you have to buy C02 as well!".

According to "Energy star" a small fridge will use about $30 a year in electricity and

you will probably beat that because you aren't opening the kegerator very often.

A 5 lb C02 canister will easily last you a year and costs about $20 to refill.

Electricity and CO2 comes out to $4.17 a month.

So clear win right?

3.5 cents an oz saved.

Well, yes if you already have a kegerator.

If you have to build or buy one then how long will it take to re-coupe the cost of the kegerator?

Assuming that you can build or buy your kegerator setup for 350 dollars and you drink the equivalent

of 4 six packs a month In about 64 months your savings will have paid for the kegerator.

A little over 5 years seems like a long time.

What if you brew your own beer?

The average cost of ingredients to brew your own is 35 dollars.

So your per oz cost is 5.5 cents.

Sounds great but you will need your own keg which will add to your startup cost and force

carbonating will use more CO2.

When all is said and done you will reach your break even point in 32 months.

So, did I save any money?

Yes I did.

But I wouldn't recommend your primary motivation for building a kegerator be saving money.

If your driving motivation is saving money then be aware of the turnaround time.

But I would advocate that you consider the joys of never having to "find room" in the

fridge, never having to deal with recycling bottles, and the freedom to drink half a beer

without the other half going bad.

Thanks for watching.

Anti-Haul #5 Anastasia Beverly Hills, HiMirror, Kérastase Hair Coach, Kylie Cosmetics + More! - Duration: 10:33.

Hey guys.

Welcome back and hello to you new people, too.

Today I'm bringing you, I think, the fifth installment in my anti-haul series.

Just a quick note before we get started because many of you ask about this.

This is my bed.

I had it custom-made.

I designed it myself.

I will put a link in the description box below if you want to check it out, but the person

I had make it, she's now selling my design, which is pretty cool.

The usual disclaimer applies.

Basically, these are products I'm not going to buy because they're not a good fit for

me.

If they're products that you want to buy because they're a good fit for you, you should absolutely

do that.

This is basically ... It's supposed to be entertaining, so I hope you enjoy it.

Now, on with the show.

First up is the new Anastasia Lip Palette.

Now, I'm sure many of you are going to be like, "But that palette looks great," and

it does look great.

It's got 18 shades.

It's only $48, which breaks down to like, I think, $2.66 per lipstick, so it's really

affordable.

It's a great price.

But be honest with yourself.

Are you going to use all 18 shades?

Are you going to mix the colors together?

To me, that is actually a pro artistry palette.

It is perfect for a professional makeup artist or it's perfect for the blogger, YouTuber

who does lip art every day, because I think you can get something like 48 or 50 different

combinations with the different products in there.

But be honest.

If you're not somebody who's going to mix your lipstick every day, you may not have

any use for the palette.

For me, even though I wear a lot of lipstick, even though I think it looks like an awesome

palette and I'm sure it will be very high quality like all of Anastasia's products are,

I'm not going to buy it because I won't find myself reaching for it and mixing things to

use it.

Okay.

Next up ... I'm going to butcher this name.

I'm sorry.

It's something like Kerastase and it's their Smart Hairbrush.

Basically, this is a smart hairbrush that tells you if your hair is dry, if you need

to add moisture or product to it.

I think it's super gimmicky.

I love technology, and I'll be talking about it more in a sec, but you can already tell

with your hair if it's dry, if it's brittle, if you have split ends.

If you have those things happen with your hair, you know that you need to go get your

dead ends trimmed off.

You know that you need to use a hair mask.

There's all different kinds of ... I feel like with hair, it's really easy to tell when

you need to do something with it because it will look like crap.

When your ends get gummy, you know that you need to get them trimmed off because there's

just too much damage.

I feel like it's super gimmicky.

It's probably going to be, I don't know, $100 to $200 because all of the smart stuff I looked

at recently has been like $150 to $200.

I just think it's crazy.

The next thing that I'm not going to buy is the HiMirror.

Now, this one is really intriguing because I love the concept of it.

I just don't think it's quite there yet.

I watched a bunch of reviews on it.

I've talked to my friends who have the mirror.

They all agree and say that the mirror is great, but it's got some kinks to be worked

out.

It's basically this mirror that takes pictures of your skin and then it tells you whether

or not your skincare products are working, which I think that sounds like a great idea.

Especially if you're somebody like me who has rosacea.

But here's the problem.

I've only seen people with perfect skin use it.

I don't know how it would handle my rosacea, like the redness.

I don't know how it would handle if somebody has like acne scarring.

I don't know how it would make adjustments for that.

From what I've seen, the mirror's a little bit flakey.

There's problems sometimes with giving the hand gestures to make it work.

I know that's one of the things that a couple of my friends said.

That it's very difficult to get it to work sometimes and to figure out how it wants to

be doing the gestures.

I think it's a great idea in concept, but until it's worked out, I don't want to spend,

what is it?

I don't want to spend $259 on a mirror.

I think if they ever get the kinks worked out, I will absolutely be first in line to

buy it, but right now, it's not quite there yet.

Lest you all think that I'm a Luddite, I am all for technology and a smart home.

I have the Ring doorbell.

I have the Amazon Echo.

I also have Google Home.

I use all of those devices.

I like having smart technology around the house.

I love it.

I want my technology to work.

I will tell you, the Ring doorbell saved my ass.

The other day, there was some guy at my front door and he was looking around and I don't

know what he was doing exactly.

But I finally said, "Can I help you?" and he ran off.

The Ring doorbell basically put a notification to my phone saying, "Somebody was at your

front door, but he didn't ring the doorbell.

He was just basically lurking."

Another friend of mine said he was probably casing my house to break in.

As far as I can tell, the Ring doorbell can help prevent people from breaking into your

house.

It definitely makes it easier for me to say, "I'm here.

Not here," if somebody comes to the front door.

It lets me keep an eye on when packages are delivered.

It's a great product.

Completely worth it to me.

So I like technology.

I just want it to work.

The next item on my not going to buy list is the Milk Makeup Blur Stick.

I was looking at this and then I saw the price tag.

It's like $36 and it's not a foundation.

It's just a blur stick.

So I went to go look at some reviews of it to see what I thought of it and I watched

Kathleen Lights' video.

I looked online to see other reviews of people who've gotten the product.

It doesn't look like it does much, if anything.

It's supposed to basically perfect the skin so you don't have to wear foundation.

But for most people I looked at, even the people with nice skin, you really couldn't

see much of a difference.

You were like squinting to see if it made a difference at all.

I feel like if you're going to spend $36, might as well buy a primer that you know will

actually do something with your skin.

Like the Hourglass primer, for me, really works well and I can actually see a visible

difference with my skin.

The new Urban Decay Optical Illusion Blurring Primer, again, I can actually see a visible

difference with my skin.

I don't want to spend $36 on something that you can't see any difference at all.

Okay.

So this is probably going to be an unpopular opinion.

Next on my list is the Storybook Cosmetics brand.

I love indie brands, but I feel like this brand is fucking shady as shit because they

keep taking intellectual property that isn't theirs ... That they don't own or have the

rights to, and then saying they're going to make products for it.

Well, that just kind of seems like vaporware.

You're basically saying, "Oh, I'm going to make this product.

I'm going to take pre-orders for it.

And then I don't know if I'm actually going to get the intellectual property rights to

clearly make it."

I feel like that's shady.

They did some Harry Potter brushes and the brushes looked so terrible.

I mean, they just ... I don't know.

They looked like they were crappily put together.

I was not impressed.

Then I saw that they also put some lightsaber mock-up brushes together, too.

Again, there's no way in hell Lucas is going to give them the right to make lightsaber

brushes.

But thinking about it from a usability standpoint, the brushes that they ... It looks like the

brushes that they made are not weighted well.

I don't see how they would be comfortable to use.

They would basically just be something you would buy to stick on your vanity to say,

"Oh, look.

I have these cool makeup brushes that look like wands."

At that point, I mean, I don't need that.

I think it's cool, but I wouldn't do it.

I don't know.

I really dislike the whole Storybook Cosmetics brand and what they're doing.

I wouldn't buy a single thing from them because they just seem so, so shady.

The next thing on my I'm not going to buy list is the Kylie Royal Peach Palette.

I was looking at this palette and I actually thought the colors were kind of pretty because

I do like peach tones.

The royal blue looks awesome because I would absolutely wear the hell out of that color.

But then I was like, I don't know if the colors are very cohesive throughout the palette.

Then I was reading that the Kylie palettes quality has been very hit or miss, like some

are great and some aren't.

If you're going to buy a palette that's almost 50 bucks, I think it's like $45 or $48, you

want the quality to be there.

Just after I looked at it and realized that the quality might not be there, I don't want

to spend the money on that.

I would much rather put together a DIY Makeup Geek palette.

I put together a peach palette with Makeup Geek.

I put together a tropical palette, all of these really cool DIY palettes that I actually

like the colors and that I do use, so I just can't see myself spending the money on Kylie's

when I don't even know that the quality is going to be there.

Oh, then there's the palette that I have been drooling over.

You'll probably laugh, but there's the Pur Makeup Trolls Palette.

I'm not interested in the whole Trolls revival thing.

I mean, I think it's cute and all, but the palette that they put out looks really good.

I've seen a couple of reviews for it that actually said the quality is there.

The colors look like ... Some of the colors in it look like really me colors because there's

like a hot pink, there's a deep teal blue, there's a deep navy blue, there's like this

white that has iridescent pink and blue sparkles.

I think the colors look great.

It looks like a good mix of eyeshadows and the quality's there.

But then I'm sitting here thinking, I already have a bunch of brights in my collection from

Sugarpill and my Viseart Bright Editorial Mattes Palette.

Then I have iridescent colors.

So why would I be buying this palette for?

I realized, even though it looks like an awesome palette, it is not for me.

This palette is for somebody who doesn't have very much makeup in their collection, because

I think it would make an amazing palette for them, but it's not a good fit for me.

I basically talked myself out of buying it, even though I like the colors, even though

it looks like the quality is there.

Because I'm like, I already have all of these, I shouldn't buy more.

Finally, last but not least, the Too Faced Sweet Peach Glow Palette.

This palette, on the surface, it looks pretty.

It looks really, really pretty but when I dug down deeper into it, it's not going to

work on pale skin.

It's going to be too orange-toned, too bronzy.

The highlighter's going to be too dark for my skin tone.

The bronzer would turn orange on my skin tone.

The blush would work for me.

However, why would you buy a product just for one-third of the palette?

I wouldn't.

The only nice thing I can say about this new Too Faced palette is that it's vegan, but

it still has that stinky peach smell, so it's just ugh.

I don't know.

I think they're going to be riding this Sweet Peach train for quite a while because they

came out with another peach blush and peach lip oils.

Just too much peach.

Oh, I had one rant left actually.

I'm fucking sick and tired of limited edition products.

I'm so burnt out on everything being limited edition, and then, "Oh, we're going to bring

it back just because it's really cool."

No.

Stop fucking making things limited edition.

I wish brands would put out pure releases so that they are releasing higher quality

products and stop with the stupid limited edition stuff every month.

I just feel like every time I turn around, there's another limited edition release coming

out and I really hate that hype that builds up around it.

Then you feel you have to buy it before you even know whether it's a quality product or

not.

It drives me crazy.

Anyway, please be sure to let me know in the comments below what you think of this anti-haul

video and my little, mini rant.

"The Ottoman Civil War" - Assassin's Creed: Real History - Duration: 20:05.

Hello everyone, my name is Robius and today I present to you the thirteenth episode in

the new iteration of Assassin's Creed the Real History.

Once again, I'll be picking up from the last video by continuing my sub-series whereby

I chronologically cover the time periods used as the backdrops for the various Assassin's

Creed titles, filling you in on their major historical events, breaching any historical

gaps left by the games, and introducing you to the individuals who actually existed.

With all that said, today's episode will concentrate on one of the Ottoman Civil wars

of succession, which represented the set piece for Assassin's Creed Revelations.

For that reason, please be aware of story spoilers throughout the entire video.

Prior to discussing the actual Ottoman Civil War that makes up the topic of today's video,

I think it would be beneficial to explain a few of the surrounding circumstances that

led to its occurrence.

It can first be said that this event developed within a period commonly referred to as the

Classical Age of the Ottoman Empire, which truly saw its beginnings with the conquest

of Constantinople by the Sultan Mehmed II in 1453 and signalled a period of expansion

for the empire.

Following the death of Sultan Mehmed II, his son Bayezid II took the throne in 1481.

After more than two decades of rule, in his later years Bayezid II's sons began a conflict

surrounding the succession of the Ottoman sultanate.

This would come to be unofficially identified as one of the Ottoman Civil Wars.

Although many elements led to this tension, it was arguably in 1509 that the conflict

truly began.

That year there was a sizeable earthquake in the city of Constantinople, which was also

known as Istanbul, among other names, at the time.

Following this natural disaster, the Sultan Bayezid II, who was older and ill, could no

longer remain in the city, for which reason he departed for their alternate capital in

Edirne.

Interpreting this as a sign of weakness, public opinion shifted as citizens felt their Sultan

may not be capable of properly ruling their Empire, thus creating an opening for Bayezid's

sons to make their desire for the sultanate known.

In addition, it is worth mentioning that within the Assassin's Creed lore, this is the point

where Manuel Palaiologos, one of the apparent heirs to the now-dissolved Byzantine throne,

began his fictionalized attempts to re-establish Byzantine rule.

Nevertheless, the sultan's oldest living son at the time was Şehzade Ahmet, who acted

as the governor of the Anatolian city of Amasya.

Although his neighbouring regions in Anatolia faced unrest due to the interference of Safavid

influence, Ahmet was still considered the favourite for the throne and was even supported

by the Grand Vizier Hadim Ali Pasha.

The second potential contender was another of Bayezid's sons, Şehzade Korkut, who

served as the governor of Teke.

Finally, the last contender for the Ottoman throne was Şehzade Selim who governed Trabzon

at the time.

During the preceding years, he had gained the admiration of the Janissaries, the Sultan's

elite fighting corps, due to his successful military expeditions.

Interpreting the rising influence of Shah Ismail and his Safavid allies as a need for

stronger Ottoman leadership, despite being the youngest, Selim began to strategize for

his ascension.

Now, the reason it's important to understand where each son governed is because it traditionally

represented an indirect declaration by the Sultan of his successor.

Ottoman customs stated that the first son to reach the capital upon the death of the

previous ruler would become the new sultan.

Therefore, the region a son was assigned to govern usually represented who the sultan

preferred to have as his successor.

Taking that into consideration, this meant that Ahmet was in the best position to succeed

Bayezid as he was located closest to the capital.

Around this period, Selim wrote to the Sultan, requesting that he and his son Suleiman be

granted governing positions within regions closer to the capital.

Bayezid decided to initially decline Selim's request, however to ease the tension, he provided

both Selim's son and Ahmed's son with governing positions in nearer regions.

Although this originally worked, following the aftermath of the earthquake incident,

Selim decided to make his move in 1510.

This involved the prince gathering troops, leaving his region and travelling to Kefe,

the city governed by his son.

Recognizing this, both Korkut and Ahmed each began to travel closer to the capital.

Meeting with Suleiman in Kefe, Selim took things a step further and proclaimed the Empire's

current leadership to be weak, as it was no longer mainly run by the sultan but rather

by his viziers, who he blamed for their current political difficulties.

Through messengers, Bayezid demanded Selim return to Trabzon with the prince responding

that he would only stand down if provided with a closer city to govern, otherwise he

rather be executed.

Although it is difficult to place it exactly, due to the vagueness of certain recorded dates

concerning these events, it would have been around this time when Assassin's Creed Revelations

would have begun, with Ezio reaching Masyaf in March of 1511.

Clearly, it can be said that this entire interaction with the fictional byzantine Templars defending

the fortress was invented for the sake of the story.

Historically, communications soon broke down between the Sultan and his son, leading the

prince to gather his forces and march towards Edirne with the intention to speak with his

father in person.

Before arriving, Selim was met by more of the Sultan's messengers who offered partial

tax revenue from other regions, but continued to refuse his territorial requests.

Selim declined the offers and continued his march towards his father.

Displeased, the sultan organized his own army and travelled towards his son.

The military forces met each other but did not fight.

Selim requested a meeting with the sultan, however at the recommendation of his viziers,

Bayezid declined.

Through messengers, Selim pushed for his father to abdicate the throne and choose a successor,

however Bayezid refused and a settlement was eventually reached whereby Selim received

one of the territories he originally requested and was provided with permission to launch

expeditions against the Hungarians.

Concluding the negotiations, Bayezid insisted that he would not abdicate the throne.

During the entirety of this conflict of succession, complications arose in another part of the

Empire.

In Anatolia, pro-Safavid rebel forces gathered under the command of the religious military

leader they called Şahkulu, or the servant of the Shah.

Capitalizing on the confusion caused by the conflict of succession, this uprising rapidly

developed from a minor inconvenience to a significant problem when the rebels began

raiding the settlements in prince Korkut's region.

They stole treasures, valuable resources and killed governing figures while the prince

was away making his claim to the throne.

After a first ottoman army was sent to quell the rebellion and failed, with its commander

being executed on Şahkulu's orders, since Bayezid was pre-occupied dealing with the

tension created by Selim, he requested that his other son Ahmet lead an army to finish

the fight.

Looking to gather more influence to help secure the throne, Ahmet accepted and was joined

by his supporter, the Grand Vizier Hadim Ali Pasha as they marched on the rebels.

After extensive fighting the superior Ottoman forces had the advantage as the rebels fled.

However, instead of pushing forward and defeating them, Prince Ahmet instead tried to use this

opportunity to gain Janissaries support in his bid for the sultanate.

Disgusted with his behavior on the battlefield they declined.

Consequently, Ahmet departed and left the Grand Vizier to finish the fight for him.

Historically, after his return from this campaign, despite the tension between the sultan and

Selim diminishing, Ahmet was furious when he learned of their agreement, stating that

by giving his brother what he wanted, Bayezid had essentially handed him the throne.

As the sultan would not change his mind, Ahmet responded by stating that he would block access

to Selim's new region.

It's worth mentioning that it was during this months-long conflict that Ezio would

have first arrived in the Ottoman capital and begun his adventure alongside the local

brotherhood of Assassins.

During this period he became acquainted with the man who eventually come to known as Piri

Reis, at the time an accomplished sailor and a studying cartographer that Revelations presented

as a member of the Ottoman Assassin order.

Nonetheless, in the real history, the Grand Vizier's forces eventually caught up with

the rebels and a final battle ensued in which the Ottomans were finally victorious.

In consequence, although the rebels were essentially defeated and they had lost their leader, Ahmed's

claim to the sultante had been furthered weakened by the loss of his most powerful supporter,

the Grand Vizier Hadim Ali Pasha, who was also killed in this concluding battle in July

of 1511.

Seeking to maximize on his technical victory against the rebels, Ahmed pushed his father

to abdicate the throne in his favor.

At this time, Bayezid, who'd returned to Constantinople, facing the loss of his Grand

Vizier, and the continued conflict between his sons, decided to consider the idea of

abdicating the throne and named Ahmed his apparent successor.

Learning of these developments, Selim dropped his Hungarians campaign plans, gathered his

army and marched towards the capital.

He sent a messenger, asking Bayezid why would go back on his promises.

Under pressure, the Sultan mustered his soldiers and responded with force to what he interpreted

as insurrectionist disobedience, handing Selim his first military defeat and forcing the

younger prince to retreat back to Crimea.

Bayezid then formally invited Ahmed to the capital for a meeting.

However, as the prince travelled to meet his father, there was an unexpected development.

The Janissaries, staunch supporters of Selim, became aware of this plan and in response

to hearing about the Viziers' intentions to simply pay them off to accept Ahmed's

rule, they rebelled.

As Ahmed arrived, a few thousand janissaries attacked the homes of his political supporters,

making it clear that he was not welcome in the city.

In response, the prince retreated.

I believe it worth mentioning that some sources contradict this account by stating that Bayezid

actually felt threatened by Ahmed and, fearing he may try to kill him and usurp the throne,

he asked the Janissaries to prevent him from entering the city.

Although we can't be certain of exactly how this played out, it still led to the same

result of Ahmed being forced to flee.

Furious at the janissaries' insubordination, the prince began to plot his own military-backed

attempt of taking the throne by force.

Ahmed proceeded to capture different regions, attempting to gain local support to his cause.

As he organized this uprising against the Sultan's forces, ignoring his father's

commands to return to his governing region, Ahmed asked if his brother Korkut, who'd

now stepped down as a contender to the throne, could travel to the capital and gauge the

situation.

This portion was clearly portrayed differently in the game.

Within Revelations' narrative, Ahmet and Suleiman had already been in the capital.

While there, following an attempt by the fictional Byzantine Templars to capture Suleiman, Ahmet

came into conflict with the Janissary captain who was supposed to be defending their family.

Soon after, this same captain was killed by Ezio.

The game then presented that due to this murder occurring immediate after Ahmet quarreled

with the man, he was blamed of orchestrating the deed by the elite soldiers, leading the

Sultan to banish him from the city for overstepping his bounds.

Either way, despite this being an alternate development, it led to the same conclusion

in which Ahmet was no longer granted access to the capital.

Historically speaking, now realizing that circumstances had changed in his favor, Selim

decided to contact his father, voicing his allegiance.

The sultan is said to have responded by inviting his son back to the capital, in hopes that

he could quell the rebellion that Ahmed was organizing.

It was during this fictional interval that the game had Ezio destroy the Great Chain

to escape Constantinople and then travel to Cappadocia, where he toppled the Byzantine

Templar organization and killed both Şahkulu and Manuel Palaiologolos.

Here, Ezio also discovered that Ahmed was actually the Templar Grandmaster of the order

and that he was planning to access Altair's library to acquire the knowledge necessary

to put an end to the feud for the sultanate.

In reality, upon arriving in Constantinople, Selim finally met with Bayezid in person,

which he had not done for years, and they began their negotiations for dealing with

Ahmed.

During these talks, leading figures within the Janissaries met with the generals of the

Ottoman military.

They stated that Bayezid was no longer capable of leading their Empire and that Selim had

to replace him.

The generals passed the message on to Bayezid, who initially refused, but reconsidered when

it was explained that the Janissaries intended to kill the Ottoman generals and the Sultan

if he did not comply.

Selim and Bayezid continued to discuss their plans, with the Sultan initially insisting

that his son concentrate on leading their military against internal and external threats.

However, Selim made it clear that if he were made chief commander of the Ottoman forces,

he simply wouldn't differ in rank from the viziers, many of whom still opposed the prince.

Furthermore, he felt the only person who could effectively lead their nation in this coming

time of war, was a sultan.

With all of these factors in mind, Bayezid accepted Selim's conditions and abdicated

the throne, with his son waiting until his father had left the palace before having his

coronation ceremony in late April of 1512.

Assassin's Creed Revelations concluded at this point of the history.

The game altered events by having Ezio chase down and fight Ahmet while saving his love

interest Sofia.

As the men reached the end of their fight, Selim suddenly arrived, proclaimed that he

had been chosen as the new Sultan and proceeded to choke Ahmet and throw him off a cliff to

his death.

Although this represented the end of the game's story, it's important to recognize that

it was completely fictionalized.

Moving on to the next chapter in the video, we can now discuss the post-game history and

concentrate on the events that followed Assassin's Creed Revelations conclusion.

Historically, after Selim's ascension, Bayezid was essentially exiled to his native region,

although he died before arriving.

Within the first year of his rule as Sultan, Selim confronted Ahmed's uprising.

Ahmed contacted his brother, asking him to respect the Anatolian territory he had established

himself as his consolation for having lost the sultanate.

Although Selim refused, he desired peace with his brother.

Unfortunately, the new Sultan's allies continued to complain about Ahmed who overreached his

political bounds on multiple occasions.

Selim felt his hand had been forced and he prepared a response.

Calling his son Suleiman to the capital, he put the prince in charge of governing the

Empire temporarily during this military campaign.

Leaving on July 29th 1512, Selim marched his army towards Ahmed's territory, forcing

his brother to flee from city to city.

Messengers communicated Ahmed's request for a governing position in Karaman in exchange

for being Selim's loyal follower.

The Sultan disagreed as he no longer trusted Ahmed, and instead offered him the opportunity

to leave the Ottoman Empire altogether if he really wanted peace.

Ahmed accepted the offer and left.

However, as Selim travelled towards the capital, Ahmed returned to Ottoman territory and with

his followers raided the city of Amasya.

Seeking closure on the issue, Selim had false letters published, pretending to be nobles

who opposed his sultanate and who were looking for allies in overthrowing the sultan.

He sent these to his brothers and received positive responses, as they did not wish to

submit to Selim.

Feeling that he was left with no choice, since he needed to concentrate on the Eastern threats

to his Empire and could no longer expend these significant efforts in managing internal struggles,

the new sultan launched a purge.

This led him to individually face off against all of his internal adversaries, ultimately

executing all of his brothers, nephews and their supporters, removing any challenge to

his throne.

Having reached the end of this historic bloody event, we can move along to the final chapter

of the video and review everything we learned so far while comparing its depiction in the

game to the actual history.

Prior to starting, I think it's important to acknowledge that Assassin's Creed Revelations

was far more concentrated on Ezio's personal plot and consequently there wasn't as much

emphasis put on the historical events of the period as there could have been.

With that in mind, the completely fictionalized components of the story were as follows; Clearly

there was no underlying battle between an order of Assassins and a group of Byzantine Templars

over the acquisition of the mystical Masyaf keys.

This also meant that there was no internal war for the control of the Ottoman capital

between these factions.

Furthermore, prince Suleiman wasn't actually threatened with a potential kidnapping plot.

In terms of the concluding events, Constantinople's so-called Great Chain that blocked the harbour

wasn't destroyed by a single man, who then went on to dismantle the fictionalized remnants

of the Byzantine military which had apparently formed as insurrectionary force.

Moving on, let's talk about the portions of the game where the writers took actual

events but manipulated certain elements to better fit the story.

The first among these was Suleiman's presence in the city throughout the game.

Although it is likely that the young prince visited the capital at certain intervals,

I wasn't able to find concrete confirmation that he would have been there throughout the

duration of Revelations.

Next, was the representation of the remnants of the Byzantine Empire.

Despite there clearly having been portions of the former empire that still existed in

the region, the Byzantines were not forming an underground military effort to take their

city back.

In fact, Manuel Palaiologos, who was represented as the leader of this movement in the game,

actually came to Constantinople years earlier and surrendered his rights to the throne to

Bayezid's father, the Sultan Mehmed II in exchange for being provided an estate and

a pension by the Ottomans.

Another component that the writers manipulated was the instance where Ahmet was barred from

the capital.

The game implies this was due to him being incorrectly blamed for ordering the death

of a janissary captain, when in reality in most cases this incident is attributed to

the janissaries strongly opposing his potential future leadership.

Following this, the next alteration was having Şahkulu act as a leading figure in organizing

the fictional Byzantine insurrectionist.

Although this man was a rebel leader, he was never associated with the Byzantines and had

actually already died months before he was killed by Ezio in the game.

Lastly, even though it is fair to say that Selim did in fact kill Ahmet, the game displayed

this event as occurring immediately after he took the throne, when in reality it was

nearly a year later after Ahmet displayed multiple instances of dissention against the

new sultan.

Taking in all of that information, let us now consider whether this Ottoman Civil War

of Succession was fairly depicted in Assassin's Creed Revelations.

In my personal opinion, it was a reasonable portrayal, however it suffered greatly from

the fact that the main plotline of the game only occasionally returned to the history,

with most of the narrative concentrating of Ezio's personal mission, rather than having

him more involved as was the case in his past games.

However, despite its alterations to the history, and its degree of detachment from the larger

scope of things, I still very much enjoyed segments of its portrayal of the battle for

the Ottoman throne.

The writers painted a great picture by introducing us to the confident prince Ahmet, almost certain

at this point that he would become sultan while only giving us mentions of the then-exiled

Selim and his violent tendencies.

Furthermore, they really set the stage for how strongly the janissaries supported Selim

over his brother, without necessarily going in depth as to how influential they were in

securing his ascension.

Lastly, I also liked how they involved the young prince Suleiman in the narrative, giving

players glimpses of his philosophy and thought process, which gives us a small of idea of

what his later rule as the Sultan Suleiman the Magnificient would come to represent.

And, with that final thought we have reached the end of today's video.

Q&A # 2 - Duration: 11:14.

hi! happy new year! and I'm starting the

year with this Q&A video as I promised

so let's begin with your questions and

the first question is - If you have already

good level (upper intermediate) how to improve

farther

well i would say at this stage when you

have an upper intermediate level I think

the most important thing here is to

change your mindset from being a learner

to being an active user of language

articulate speaker of language because you

have enough knowledge and skill to

survive in any english-speaking country

or even in any other country - let go of

this mindset of being learner. now it's

it's what you do you speak English and

what do people do with their native

language? they use it in every way

so you need to start reading if you're

not reading and not just reading ,like

books that you like and books that you

have read in your native language but

reading ...which is really a cliché

advice but newspapers articles

everything that you would look into

in your language you need to do in english

and with reading you need to continue

working on your vocabuary so write it down

and use it as much as you can. create

ridiculous sentences put them in weird

places that are not normal and sound

ridiculous but it's fine you will

remember that way .of course the most useful

thing would be to find a person to talk

to and there are tons of services where

you can get the get in touch with a

native speaker and, yeah that's cool because

you will get Conversation

you know, once in awhile and it will

trigger your desire to continue learning

if you're having a lack of motivation so

again immersion, immersion is always an

answer. read write watch. wright your google

requests in English and just, I don't

know, use it, just start actively using it

and well while we're on this topic if you

are learning English no matter what

level you're at - give

language context. it's not an accident

that when you go to courses and have a

tutor or whatever you're constantly

asked to answer questions about your

life and telling stories about you. that

are relevant to you because you need to

put together this language and your

reality

otherwise you will not use it because it

is not connected it to you so connect

English to your life and to your

thoughts. so yeah that'sb my answer .the

next question is why do English speakers

mostly ignor past perfect future perfect

and future perfect continuous .well they

don't. it's just contractions and

reduction because when you watch a movie

you see that in subtitles but in real

life you don't have subtitles and people

have this , they contract everything to

speak easily and that's why you hear not

i have seen this movie before you were

even born. you see I've seen da movie before you were born

like really? with past perfect it happens

all the time they just contract had and

you lose it. you don't hear but it's

there! and about future perfect future

perfect continuous is just the situation

where you would use it is quite rare and

I don't think in regular conversations

people often get to that point where you

need to use this kind of construction

there is always the time and place for

every tense in English language.it's there

for a reason and you just don't get to

that point of conversation where you

hear that and sometimes it's easier to

break the phrase into two easier phrases

than to say long and complicated one but

it doesn't mean that they don't use it

they do use it! like a kind of created

couple of examples. i will not work on

january Seventeen's because i will have

been traveling for a week by than and i

will be very tired in or my friend is

coming to town in like a couple days in

a week and she wanted to go to the

cinema with me and i said that i will

have seen this movie by the time you're

here because I really want to watch it

it's not super simple and regular thing

to say but i would say it . don't

underestimate all those tenses you need

them and present or past perfect they

are there. they're just contracted and

when you speak quickly they just kind of

blend together and you don't hear

them but they're there and to understand

people better and and to tell your ideas

and tell what you want to tell you need to

know them and you need to use them

next question is 5 typical mistakes in

learning English. well I should really

think about it and make a separate video

for that because it's not a simple and

quick topic . if I had to pick one I would

say as i said before separating english

from your life and that

making personal. yeah this is a mistake

don't do that. would you like to move

somewhere abroad ? and i'm not sure about

moving because i'm at this point in my

life where I really wanna just move

around and I don't want to settle and

that's why I'm not sure I want to move

somewhere i do want to go places but

moving is kind of not on my list anytime

soon so yeah but yeah i'm going to

travel the whole lot this year! in your

opinion how should we read classic

literary works or what attitude should

we adopt if you want to fully appreciate

their value. i have two opinions on this

thing because as an English literature

teacher I think it's better to just read

the text and ignore all the opinions and

interpretations about it and just get

your own idea and understanding. but as

an english language teacher it's the

opposite

you better research it really well

understand what is going to be about

what are the main topics maybe

understand the characters more and then

as you start reading it just, you know

work on your vocabulary and maybe after

reading a small piece and getting and

working on the vocabulary you just reread

it again and see if you understand

the estatic point of that i would say but

generally just try to start with small

pieces i mean like stories and poetry

maybe. yeah , don't get discouraged because

it is complicated and not all native

speakers easily understand and can enjoy

classic literary works but it's a

good idea read it's better to read then

not to and it's

better to try and fail and try again then

never really get to reading a real thing

the attitude i think here should be just

try your best and again think as a

native speaker , think as a person who

owns the language, language of skill so

use your skill exercise it, ok, does it

really matter to use perfect grammar in

communication with native speakers on

daily basis out of specific areas such

as universities or job interviews

it really depends on your goal if you're

trying to make an impression at a job

interview of course you need perfect

grammar but if the person that is

interviewing you sees that you are very

fluent speaker and you a you know you

can use the language to explain yourself

and to convey your thoughts they will

not pay attention to small details as

some kind of mistake and grammar

yeah focusing on the perfect grammar is

a bad idea

you need to focus on the function of

grammar in your learning you need to

focus on where would I use it ? how would

I use it ? and why would I use it? like in

previous questions about past perfect

future perfect just learn situations

where you will need it and try to, you

know, put yourself in this situation

where you would have to explain

something using those tenses. even if

you are a beginner, native speaker will

understand what you're trying to say if

you want to be productive in your

language and use it to the full

potential of course you you need the

grammar and yeah, but don't stress out

about it it's fine, it's fine

are you an angel?

are you afraid of the dentist? i used to

be but then I met the love of my life in

the area of

dentists and now I'm ready to go there

every day because it's fine and I get a

weird satisfaction after going to the

dentist like I accomplished something

I'm an adult and I take care of my body

yeah so kinda, no I'm not afraid. it's

disgusting but I'm mot afraid so yeah

that's it for today if you have more

questions you can leave them in the

comments section and i will answer them

in my next Q&A video! i really hope you

had a good holiday whatever holiday you

celebrate in this time of year and I hope you

spent it with your family and around your loved

ones i wish you tons of success and good

things in this new year and i hope i

will see you soon

yeah have a great day! bye!

and about traveling that's true i'm

gonna travel this month yay! finally

vaccataion

yeah i'm so tired last year was

exhausting but good exhausting

no wasn't good was a terrible year what

are you talking about

How to Make Molasses Cookies - Easy Soft Molasses Cookies Recipe

Hello and welcome back to In the Kitchen with Matt, I am your host Matt Taylor, Happy New

Year everybody.

Today I am going to teach you how to make Molasses Cookies, mmm yummy; they are really

easy to make, one of my sisters, favorite recipes, she made some for me for the holidays,

they were super yummy, thought I would show you how to make them, really easy to do, if

I can do it, you can do it.

Let's get started.

First let's sift together our dry ingredients.

I am going to add 2 cups of flour here, and it is okay if it goes over the sides here,

probably need a bigger sifter, one half teaspoon of salt, 1 tsp. of ground cinnamon, 2 tsp.

of baking soda, one half tsp. of ground cloves, one half tsp. of ground ginger.

All right and we just sift away here, and now what we want to do is we want to cream

together, 3 fourths cup of shortening, one fourth cup of molasses, the star of the show,

you will want to probably use a spatula to get it all out, and one cup of sugar.

Let's cream that together.

Okay, then I am going to scrape the sides.

And now I will add one egg, mix.

Scrape the sides one more time.

Then we just mix in our flour, and I am going to mix it in, about a third of it at a time.

And then I will scrape the sides one last time.

All right and now we clean off the beaters, and then what I am going to do is I am going

to take the dough and just ball it all together.

And then what we want to do is cover this with plastic wrap or a lid, and then chill

this in the refrigerator, for at least two hours, on to that step.

All right once you have them rolled out, this goes into an oven that has been preheated

to 375 degrees F. And then we will bake them for 7 to 8 minutes.

When they come out of the oven they will look like this, we will go ahead and let them cool

for about 5 minutes, before we transfer them over to a wire rack to cool the rest of the

way.

All right our molasses cookies are done, they turned out amazing, you may not be familiar

with this type of cookie, but go out there and try them, they are really easy to make,

really yummy, I think you are really going to like them.

I am Matt Taylor; this has been another episode of In the Kitchen with Matt, thank you for

joining me, as always if you have any questions or comments, put them down below and I will

get back to you as soon as I can, thumbs up, down in the corner push it, Don't forget to

subscribe to my channel, take care.

Time for me to dive into one of these, oh yeah, mmm mmm mmm, grab this guy right here.

Deeper Insight - Uma ideia que cria melhores experiências de aprendizado - Duration: 3:34.

At Cambridge, we've always taken research very seriously

We're unique and we have a dedicated research team that studies English

as it is actually used around the globe,

and also looks at different ways of teaching English.

and this gives us some deep insights into how English is most effectively learned.

As well as this academic research, we also work really closely with teachers globaly.

to understand more about their teaching context,

their learners needs...

and what really works for them and and their students,

both inside and outside the classroom.

And by applying those insights to our materials...

we can really help teachers deliver better learning experiences to their students.

My name is Layra Patsko, and I'm senior ELT research manager,

and I work in the language and pedagogic research team, on the pedagogy side

And that involves conducting research into language learning and language teaching.

My name is Dr Claire Dembry, and I am senior research manager in ELT,

and I use really big collections of text to look at what English is like

and to use all that information to inform our teachers materials.

I undertake research in various ways...

it tends to be classroom based,

or learning environment based, as some of the classrooms we look at now

are actually virtual classrooms.

And that involves things like interviewing teachers or students

about their attitudes or their experience of learning.

Or it could be observing lessons, as...

looking at particular things happening on those lessons,

and commenting on how effective they are.

I have to be a kind of fly on the wall

and watch what happens when someone learns or someone teaches.

And from that, try to extract insights that can help them do it better.

It's very important to talk to teachers frequently,

and keep one foot in the classroom and really understand what their experience is.

It's not about research on people, it's research with people.

A lot of the things that I do is around Corpus linguistics

So gathering really big collections of texts

and using these texts to analyse what English is actually like.

So, which words frequently go together, which word is used most often,

how written English is different from spoken English,

how particular groups of learners use English, and how that changes at different levels.

So, how beginner English is different to advanced level,

and trying to find out what we can do to sort of help learners

travel along that journey.

We get very good feedback on materials that have been developed with those insights

And whenever we talk to teachers about the research we are doing,

they are very excited to know that they're involved in that big worldwide conversation

about what works, what's effective.

And then we try to provide support to help them use those materials.

Our contribution to the materials is to make learning easier,

is to make it faster, is to make it better.

And part of that is by looking out what we know about English,

and what we know about learners, and what we know about teaching and learning.

Putting all of that together to sort of really try and improve

and make our materials really amazing.

Stronger Results - Saiba medir seus resultados - Duration: 2:29.

We know that many students need to pass an exam in English,

and obviously, at Cambridge, we're committed to help students achieve academic success.

But we also know that, for a lot of students,

learning English is about more than just passing an exam.

But whether the learner's goal is getting good grades,

or simply being able to use English confidently,

we're able to help teachers and students to assess and measure their progress

towards that goal.

And we do this by offering opportunities for clear and reliable feedback

every step of the way.

This means that students are more motivated, and confident,

and able to produce the language they need to succeed in the real world.

I want to help my students to achieve academic success

and success in life, when they embark on future career.

In particular, I want them to be critical thinkers who know exactly what they want in life.

I found a lot of my classes are very motivated using these materials,

because they can see their progress with regular progress tests.

We often find that students who maybe miss a lesson...

will say "can I have the test? I really want to see it"

And even if they didn't do the test,

they want to know what the answers would have been,

because the service is a good revision tool.

No other material can actually prepare students quite as well for the exames

as the Cambridge materials.

Since using Touchstone I see that my students have...

started conversations more confidently,

and then everytime we have to perform a task,

I see that their performing them naturally.

The units focus on problems that I regularly see in my students,

so we're able to improve in specific areas, such as ...

frequently confused vocabulary.

And so I see results in their speaking, after we focused on these areas.

It's clear to see the results from the moment we started using Cambridge materials.

Constant improvement and better grades

are the best example of the results we achieved.
