Intro I think it's going to be difficult for me

to explain exactly why I love this episode.

Kathy...is annoying.

A suffocatingly passive aggressive, tooth numbingly sweet, pain in the ass who you can't

imagine spending 30 seconds with let alone an entire semester.

And that's why I love the episode.

Summary Buffy and Kathy are suffering the effects

of insanely close quarters and Kathy's suffocating passive aggressiveness.

"Also I noticed some of my milk was missing.

Did you?

No it's fine.

I just wanted to make sure."

If it's fine then why did you ASK?

Buffy goes for a walk with Willow and unloads.

Willow stops by Oz's room and we see the two of them were being followed by a glowy

eyed demon of some sort.

Kathy turns up on the walk uninvited.

6:00 "I thought a little caffeine sounded good after all.

The glowy eyed demon attacks.

Buffy tosses Kathy into some brush to keep her safe and handles the demon easily.

From the shadows two of the demons discuss the possibility of "her" being the one.

The next day Giles is now jogging and getting motorcycle magazines.

8:00 "Okay you're not having a midlife crisis are you because I'm still not over

the last time you tried to recover your youth."

*Band Candy montage

"Buffy" - "Sorry."

Giles' reproachful and dignified word indicates yup indeed that was a joke about Joyce and

him.

Back at their room Kathy helps herself to one of Buffy's sweaters and happens upon

Buffy's bag of slayer paraphernalia.

In line at the cafeteria Buffy sees Kathy and goes to avoid her, cutting in front of

*deep breath* Parker.

12:00 "Exboyfriend or loan shark" - "Excuse me?"

- "The person you're hiding from?"

Parker gives her a rundown on how to cheat the cafeteria system, which elicited in me

quite a bit of nostalgia.

I used to shove enough food into a togo box to feed myself and three of my off campus

friends.

At the lunch table Buffy seems a little short with Xander to me, her irritability with Kathy

spilling over into the Scooby circle.

Xander is pitiable in these early episodes.

High school has ended and he has no job, no direction, and no idea what he's doing with

his life.

In each scene he's so ready to assemble the Avengers just to have something to do.

Kathy jumps the Scooby table and Buffy's intro has some serious teeth.

15:00 "You all know my roomy Kathy."

Buffy pops a vessel that Kathy is wearing her sweater.

15:45 "I just wished you'd asked."

Cut to "Did you drink my milk."

Kathy takes a bite of her chicken burger and we get this brilliant horror movie cut.

Honestly, I think it speaks volumes that that bit is something I always remember when I

think of the show.

Beck's thriller riff and the extreme closeup are stupid funny.

And later that evening Buffy is venting to Willow on the phone, who is clearly in a worse

roommate situation.

16:30 "What about my sweater?

I mean you can't believe the type of stuff I have to put up with."

I actually love revel in Buffy's selfish bit in this episode.

Kathy has now labeled everything in the fridge, and Beck's score in this scene makes a ballet

of Buffy and Kathy's simmering cauldron of hatred.

The gum is uncalled for if you ask me.

The lights go out and Buffy has a vision of something being sucked out of her chest.

That evening Buffy and Kathy drop the passive and go at it openly.

24:00 "Share time?

I'll show you share time."

Gulps milk.

Oz agrees to patrol with Buffy and make sure things are all right.

On his way to Stevenson to meetup with her he passes some strangers and...something happens.

25:30 "And then she's like it's share time and I'm like, oh yeah.

Share this."

*arms

That's...thats adorable.

Buffy's anger is escalating to the point of being dangerous and Oz is worried.

She decides that Kathy is the demon and steals Kathy's toenails to bring to Giles.

As demon nails continue to grow after being removed from the body.

201 29:30 "Kathy's evil.

I'm an evil fighter.

It's simple.

I'm gonna have to kill her."

Willow tells Buffy to take Kathy's evil toenails to Giles and Giles has the boys capture

her at his place.

Buffy insists Giles measure the toenails.

He leaves to do so and Buffy baits the boys into a letting her escape.

And the dorm she and Kathy attack each other and Kathy's face comes off in her hands.

34:30 "I knew it"

Demon Kathy and Buffy have a pretty great fight in the dorm room, as that cauldron finally

boils over.

"It's share time Buffy."

- "Fine then lets start with my sweater...oooo…"

Giles performs a ritual to restore Buffy's soul and when she does Kathy's Dad appears

to take her home.

Willow is Buffy's new roommate and even though Buffy's soul is totally restored

Willow steals and sandwich and we see....

Analysis

There are so many brilliant comedic bits in this episode.

My favorite is the cold war roommate standoff where Kathy is cutting her nails.

Cut to a high speed shot of the nail spinning into the air and landing on the carpet.

The exaggerated sound effects emphasizing their simmering hatred for each other.

It's so artfully assembled it actually reminded me of the scene from Insomina where Al Pacino

has started to lose his mind after no sleep.

Beck's score here is as usual, on point.

Playful and teasing about the gathering storm.

But one of the things I enjoy about the episode is how completely culpable Buffy is for what's

going on.

After all, don't forget, she DID take Kathy's milk.

Without asking.

Who DOES that?

And that was PRE soul stealing process mind you.

That nefarious act spun into a spiral of evil deeds that dragged both Buffy and Kathy into

a soulless mire of mutual loathing and hatred.

A place where goodness dare not travel.

SOUND CLIP

Roommate situations are so hard.

You get to come face to butt with your own selfishness that you bring to the table.

I was an intolerable mooch in college so I took great joy in seeing Buffy's flaws here,

something that in all honesty we don't get a lot of in the series.

Of course Kathy turns out to be the soul tampering demon in the end but that doesn't negate

the side of Buffy we got to see.

A sentiment reinforced by the thriller cut to Willow's sandwich thievery at the end

of the episode.

Hilarious as the situation is Buffy's reaction here does raise some curious questions about

character and the growing pains she's experiencing.

Buffy's insecurity in the previous episode lead to her defeat at Sunday's hands.

Xander helped her restore her sense of self and she won the day.

Here, while the soul sapping Kathy was performing on her no doubt exacerbated her aggression,

we do see her acting entitled and immature and certainly immaturity is an impediment

to growing up.

Also note the current situations of Buffy's Scooby satellites.

Giles with his midlife crisis.

Xander with no clue what's next in his life.

At least Oz and Willow are sound.

Conclusion It's not a particularly deep episode (Kathy

is literally the roommate from hell) but this one is way too good to be called a candy episode.

It's a fun romp and, as with the premiere, I loved the portrayals of the college experience.

College dorms are such a bizarre thing, shoving two strangers in a room together and forcing

them to abandon their privacy to each other.

Maybe the reason I like this episode so much is I identify.

My roommate freshman year was a shy born again who took karate.

He got mad and tried to karate kick me once and me with my no belt, caught his leg and

threw him in his own closet...accidentally.

For some reason the rest of the semester we never spoke again.

stef AB and a happy new year to all of

you and it's been a great 2016 I cannot

wait to get 2017 started and today in this

video and under talk to you guys about

my 2017 new year's resolutions if you

like and a kind of look ahead as to what

to expect in 2017 things i want to get

done the plans for the car let's jump in the abarth

and let's have a chat

welcome to 2017 and a new logo so i

thought i wanted to what i wanted to

start 2017 with something

new so I rebranded the logo

we've got the stef AB logo now which i

think is quite cool let me know what you

think in the comments and i hope you all

had a great new year and I want to start

2017

firstly by saying thank you to all of

you guys who have subscribed already

it's so great to know that you guys are

enjoying the content in the videos and I

have quite a bit of feedback from some

of the guys at the above me that we just

went to which is in the last video if

you haven't seen it check it out because

the Abarth 595 convoy was absolutely quality we had

such a great time driving out there

looking at 2017 ahead so I know we've

all got new years resolutions

I've got a couple myself so I'm going to

start with the number one the cliché

resolution that everybody it seems to do

and that's the old

Timber the whole weight not going

particularly over the Christmas period

I ate so much food was unbelievable so

now new year I need to do something

about the weight but I don't know if I want

to I don't know how we're doing

I don't know if I want to join a gym

I don't think I've got the time if I'm

honest I don't know I know what you're

thinking

that's an excuse you need to commit but

you know the reality is doing a doing a

nine-to-five monday friday like most of

us and using my spare time you know to

create videos of the abarth 595 and me for you guys I think that

the main thing that I need to do...

i couldn't go jogging or running

I just I just don't like him kill me now

try focus a little bit more on the diet

so this year I don't know how long it's

gonna last

I'm going to make a conscious effort to

sit down and just be a bit more careful

with ye nothing that's my first

resolution i'm going to try and stick to

it

my second new years resolution and what I want to

try and do as well is it naturally I

really want to focus on the channel i

really want to focus on making great

content for you guys and keep trying the

Instagram page step over 9,000 followers

which is fantastic and if any of you

guys are watching this who come over

from Instagram made truly i'm really

thankful started the page and hotel in

the summer and the reception that I've

had and all the followers I've grown

have been fantastic so thank you

honestly thank you so much for that

really means a lot to me and even more

so the the youtube channel which I mean

it's what it's all about three weeks old

now and already got 88 subscribers when

I'm taking this video and we're getting

close to the hundred mark because that's

also because i can get rid of this

shitty YouTube URL that they've given me

and i can get my own one and then we can

just brand it so we've got a new logo

we're getting there let's get to a

hundred subscribers i can get a proper

channel name and but not really the

focus really will be to grow the channel

lowered cars and bumpy roads and not the

way for some of the things i look back

when i go back to 2016 little quiet my

first video that i wish i had started

the youtube thing earlier because i had

some really good memories and

experiences in 2016 and I got great

photos but I didn't get the content that

I wanted to and an even more so i wanted

to share that kind of stuff with you

guys and now that you know I know that

people are interested in people

subscribing will definitely drive me to

be more than one of my highlights in

2016 and if you watch the first video

which includes some of the best fits in

2016 and you want to see in the i took a

radical radical race car out for for a

day and I Silverstone and it was

absolutely insane and i had the pleasure

me into Martin Donnelly there was ex

formula one driver back in the days of

senna so he kind of gave us show us the

ropes on what we needed to do and how to

drive the car the the aerodynamics the

hole and the downforce of those cars

produces incredible that that was a real

highlight for me in 2016 and i would

love to do more of that kind of stuff in

2017 like to get to a few supercar meets

have some of the big ones i'd love to go

to someone i salon prive

do a few road trips for my friends

enough to hit the Nurburgring obviously

all abarth meets because the Abarth

meats in 2016 were amazing and naturally

in this kind of weather they're not

going to be the greatest but meets on to

lead into spring and summer

that's when i'm going to start enjoying

myself I'm gonna help you get some very

content to share with you guys so if

you're watching this and you buy YouTube

channel or even if you don't I'd love to

start doing some collaborations and get

some of the other guys involved and do a

few interviews and Q&A with some of the

bar owners so if you would love to get

biggest one being the turbo conversions

there's a couple of options out there

and I know for those of you who know me

I talked plenty about getting a TD 04

and but after seeing some of the results

that hadn't managed to get from the

hybrid GT 1446 is left in a bit of a

pickle because i'm still undecided but

definitely definitely 2017 we will be

putting a bigger turbo in this abarth 595

trying to push the two so that will be

exciting match you're gonna keep all of

you guys informed we're going to blog

the trips to pro alfa we're going to blog

everything that we do in terms of

modifying the car for those of you who

are cars and love to modify then you'll

know that their money pits just can't

you can't stop spending money on them

but is what is it brings you joy and if

you can make it fast

that I like i'm aiming for march

and roll into the summer season with

all the abarth meats etc with a big turbo i'm

also thinking potentially getting a

spoiler extension some of the more

attention he may have seen on the last

abarth 595 video and that's something that I'm

thinking doing as well but the list the

list is endless

that's and that's the great thing I love

having and this choice so there's lots

to come in 2017 and again thank you so

So, Today! tadaa I've prepped a bunch of Taiwanese Gourmet today

doesn't it all look delish? most of these dishes are sort of like things you can get at

food stands I've had something like this but its 'Mensen' i

I've got 3 bowls of these and they're 'minced pork rice' its made from simmered pork

looks delish, there's also a flavored egg sitting on top and this is Taiwanese fried chicken

these are tea eggs well, that is what was written on it in English

apparently its boiled in tea

I'm kind of curious how it tastes

this is a healthy salad made from thin bits of tofu

they had all sorts of flavors of drinks which I ordered first this one is a famous drink in Taiwan , an Apple Cider

lets give it a taste

ahh delish great tasting apple flavor and is very refreshing and not too sweet

tapioca milk tea, mango tapioca, grass Jelly milk tea, mango, and lemon

~take this off~

itadakimasu this is how it looks

the soup is a bonito broth and its packed with short thin noodles delish

nicely flavored with cilantro

its got pork ?offal? in it and flavoring it I've got all sorts of drinks sitting here so lets taste them

lets start with my Fav. tapioca milk tea

the tapiocas are so chewy and delish

I'll try this chicken

its got a crispy skin and such juicy and spicy meat inside

I've got 6 pieces of them

and pork fried rice

the pork and shitake mushroom are braised in a sweet sauce which blends nicely with the rice its so delish

the flavored egg is great as well its also got mustard greens

the chicken is so juicy I'll give these eggs boiled in tea a try

they look like this

it does sort of taste of tea the flavor isn't that prominent its delish

here's the salad

its very fresh tasting and the tofu is very firm I love the mouthfeel

oops I picked up a new flavor this is grass jelly milk tea its got jelly inside

the chicken is so very juicy and huge

this is mango tapioca when you think of Taiwan you think of mangoes

the mango is so rich

this is tapioca mango

its a nice combination of mango juice and tapioca

and this is lemon

its a honey and lemon flavored drink its so very refreshing and delish

there is only this much left

all done gochisosamadeshita

Taiwanese food stand gourmet was so delish its been a while since I last had Mensen and it was worth the wait

the bonito broth had a bit of a spicy kick to it and it was very delish

the pork fried rice was very delish as well and these tapioca style drinks from Taiwan were all so delish

So, Today! tadaa I've prepped a bunch of Taiwanese Gourmet today

doesn't it all look delish? most of these dishes are sort of like things you can get at

food stands I've had something like this but its 'Mensen' i

I've got 3 bowls of these and they're 'minced pork rice' its made from simmered pork

looks delish, there's also a flavored egg sitting on top and this is Taiwanese fried chicken

these are tea eggs well, that is what was written on it in English

apparently its boiled in tea

I'm kind of curious how it tastes

this is a healthy salad made from thin bits of tofu

they had all sorts of flavors of drinks which I ordered first this one is a famous drink in Taiwan , an Apple Cider

lets give it a taste

ahh delish great tasting apple flavor and is very refreshing and not too sweet

tapioca milk tea, mango tapioca, grass Jelly milk tea, mango, and lemon

itadakimasu this is how it looks

the soup is a bonito broth and its packed with short thin noodles delish

nicely flavored with cilantro

its got pork ?offal? in it and flavoring it I've got all sorts of drinks sitting here so lets taste them

lets start with my Fav. tapioca milk tea

the tapiocas are so chewy and delish

I'll try this chicken

its got a crispy skin and such juicy and spicy meat inside

I've got 6 pieces of them

and pork fried rice

the pork and shitake mushroom are braised in a sweet sauce which blends nicely with the rice its so delish

the flavored egg is great as well its also got mustard greens

the chicken is so juicy I'll give these eggs boiled in tea a try

they look like this

it does sort of taste of tea the flavor isn't that prominent its delish

here's the salad

its very fresh tasting and the tofu is very firm I love the mouthfeel

oops I picked up a new flavor this is grass jelly milk tea its got jelly inside

the chicken is so very juicy and huge

this is mango tapioca when you think of Taiwan you think of mangoes

the mango is so rich

this is tapioca mango

its a nice combination of mango juice and tapioca

and this is lemon

its a honey and lemon flavored drink its so very refreshing and delish

there is only this much left

all done gochisosamadeshita

Taiwanese food stand gourmet was so delish its been a while since I last had Mensen and it was worth the wait

the bonito broth had a bit of a spicy kick to it and it was very delish

the pork fried rice was very delish as well and these tapioca style drinks from Taiwan were all so delish
