Youtube daily report w Jan 24 2017

Hello, just2good here,

and LEGO's image server has also revealed pictures of the LEGO Marvel BrickHeadz!

These also release mid-February for VIPs

and March for everyone else at LEGO Stores and Shop at Home.

Three are from Captain America Civil War -

which have blue boxes -

Captain America, Iron Man, and Black Widow,

while one is from Age of Ultron - Hulk.

This distribution is odd to me,

like, why do one from Avengers Age of Ultron?

I know Hulk is super popular,

but couldn't they just wait until Ragnorak

and release a Hulk from there?

It hurts more since his box is red

and the other three boxes are blue.

I mean, I like the Hulk,

but I don't like how it's a regular green

and not Olive Green,

considering it's based on the movie

and you can see his olive green skin on the side.

I also don't like how the 1x4 tile is raised to represent a frown.

Looks ugly.

I'm sure for Ragnorak they'll do like,

Thor and Loki,

and hopefully we'll get a Spider-Man one for Homecoming.

Iron Man and Captain America look good,

but since I already have the comic book style ones,

my hype isn't too high.

My favorite is Black Widow who looks pretty unique.

I don't like the Mixel teeth belt buckle they have on her though,

it's too big even at this proportion.

What do you guys think?

Leave your thoughts in the comments below.

I'll see you guys later.

Peace out.

Bye.

How Many Species Are There? - Duration: 4:43.

[MUSIC]

Let's imagine extraterrestrials land on Earth tomorrow, only they're not here to

enslave and destroy humanity, they're just galactic census takers.

Then let's imagine instead of our generals, or world leaders, they want to speak to our

scientists.

You know, the important people.

Their first question, might be "How many life forms reside on this planet?"

And the answer is… um, uh, well… umm.

We don't know.

[MUSIC]

Hey smart people, Joe here, and as a biologist, this is kind of embarrassing to admit.

We don't know how many species there are on Earth.

5 million? 10 million?

Unless you want to count microbes and extinct species too, then maybe a trillion?

It's the answer to one of the most basic questions about life, and those aliens will

probably think we're a bunch of galactic dummies, but it's not like we haven't

been trying to find the answer.

Aristotle.

He was big on putting things in order.

Aristotle's universe was made of spheres, one set inside another, with Earth and us

in the center.

This was basically all wrong, but for almost two thousand years, this is how most western

"science" was approached.

If you just define and organize all the things, you will understand *the secrets of the universe*.

Enter Linnaeus.

He agreed with that Aristotle approach: if he found everything on Earth and gave it a

name, he'd unlock *the secrets of the universe* Linnaeus was a Swede, and naming things turns

out to be an old Swedish pastime.

His filing system for organizing all those names gave birth to the one taxonomists still

use today, but Carl, like most scientists back then, was wrong in a big way, and it

took these two guys to show the world why.

In our last video, where we talked about discovering that weird hermit crab caterpillar, we learned

that even defining what a species is might be impossible.

And this is a big reason why.

Nature has a pesky habit of changing.

Like counting sand on a beach on a windy day.

It's not only annoying, it's impossible.

We identify maybe 18,000 new species every year, and we've counted about one and a

half million living species so far.

That's a lot, but it's still a fraction of what's out there.

One recent estimate says there's 8.7 million non-bacterial species on Earth.

At our current rate it'd take 400 years to ID them all.

Catching them all, just isn't realistic.

Even if we did somehow find all the species that live on land, there's two and a half

times as much area covered by water, and stuff lives there too.

We can only make estimates, and over the years those have ranged from 2 to 100 million.

Why are our guesses all over the place?

For one thing scientists have only been able to globally share data through the magic of

the internet for like 25 years.

To make things worse, we have a bias towards feathers and fur.

Of the 10,000 or so bird species we know of, we'd found almost half by 1850, because

all the hippest Victorians were into birding.

Compare that with insects and arachnids, where half of their known species were found in

just the past few decades.

Luckily, the more species we find, the better our guesses get.

Estimates seem to be converging on one number: about 5 million living species, plus or minus

3 million because who needs precision!

That doesn't count microbes, of course, because that number I mentioned earlier, 1

trillion?

That's the real estimate when you count the little guys.

I'm beginning to think maybe we don't run this planet after all.

It may sound impossible to identify, name, and describe all 5 million of Earth's species

or whatever the real number is, but consider the Library of Congress holds nearly eight

times as many books, each of them written by a person.

If more of us take the time, this is a story we can write.

Because you can't read the story of life, if you don't have all the pages.

You can't understand a system if you don't know all its parts.

And you can't conserve what you don't know exists.

Plus I really don't want to make a fool out of myself in front of the aliens.

Stay curious!

which case I guess this is part 1 and that's part 2.

Kinda works in either direction.

Just go watch it.

It's awesome.

The purchase money, or the exchange of old rubles for new - Duration: 2:18.

A friend of mine about six months ago were involved in the following type of income (business in this case, too loud) - he bought from the money of the people. Yes, Yes, buying old money (well, the ones from which it took three zeros) over 70 per cent of their nominal value taking into account obessolivanija. That is to say, a person has 100 000 OLD (that is, the current is 100 rubles), my friend paid this man 70 rubles, took 100 000 and the transaction is committed. Why? What is the secret? The fact that in every city there is a Bank (usually one and, as a rule, Central), which changes the money, but not everyone knows about it. And the banks are only changing a large amount will not be due to piece chantelise.

Mary's room: A philosophical thought experiment - Eleanor Nelsen - Duration: 4:52.

Imagine a brilliant neuroscientist named Mary.

Mary lives in a black and white room,

she only reads black and white books,

and her screens only display black and white.

But even though she has never seen color, Mary is an expert in color vision

and knows everything ever discovered about its physics and biology.

She knows how different wavelengths of light

stimulate three types of cone cells in the retina,

and she knows how electrical signals

travel down the optic nerve into the brain.

There, they create patterns of neural activity

that correspond to the millions of colors most humans can distinguish.

Now image that one day,

Mary's black and white screen malfunctions

and an apple appears in color.

For the first time,

she can experience something that she's known about for years.

Does she learn anything new?

Is there anything about perceiving color that wasn't captured in all her knowledge?

Philosopher Frank Jackson proposed this thought experiment,

called Mary's room, in 1982.

He argued that if Mary already knew all the physical facts about color vision,

and experiencing color still teaches her something new,

then mental states, like color perception,

can't be completely described by physical facts.

The Mary's room thought experiment

describes what philosophers call the knowledge argument,

that there are non-physical properties and knowledge

which can only be discovered through conscious experience.

The knowledge argument contradicts the theory of physicalism,

which says that everything, including mental states,

has a physical explanation.

To most people hearing Mary's story,

it seems intuitively obvious that actually seeing color

will be totally different than learning about it.

Therefore, there must be some quality of color vision

that transcends its physical description.

The knowledge argument isn't just about color vision.

Mary's room uses color vision to represent conscious experience.

If physical science can't entirely explain color vision,

then maybe it can't entirely explain other conscious experiences either.

For instance, we could know every physical detail

about the structure and function of someone else's brain,

but still not understand what it feels like to be that person.

These ineffable experiences have properties called qualia,

subjective qualities that you can't accurately describe or measure.

Qualia are unique to the person experiencing them,

like having an itch,

being in love,

or feeling bored.

Physical facts can't completely explain mental states like this.

Philosophers interested in artificial intelligence

have used the knowledge argument

to theorize that recreating a physical state

won't necessarily recreate a corresponding mental state.

In other words,

building a computer which mimicked the function of every single neuron

of the human brain

won't necessarily create a conscious computerized brain.

Not all philosophers agree that the Mary's room experiment is useful.

Some argue that her extensive knowledge of color vision

would have allowed her to create the same mental state

produced by actually seeing the color.

The screen malfunction wouldn't show her anything new.

Others say that her knowledge was never complete in the first place

because it was based only on those physical facts

that can be conveyed in words.

Years after he proposed it,

Jackson actually reversed his own stance on his thought experiment.

He decided that even Mary's experience of seeing red

still does correspond to a measurable physical event in the brain,

not unknowable qualia beyond physical explanation.

But there still isn't a definitive answer

to the question of whether Mary would learn anything new

when she sees the apple.

Could it be that there are fundamental limits to what we can know

about something we can't experience?

And would this mean there are certain aspects of the universe

that lie permanently beyond our comprehension?

Or will science and philosophy allow us to overcome our mind's limitations?

Was Jesus a Lunatic? - Duration: 2:23.

After a lecture I once gave, a gentleman, swaying

back and forth with an overwhelming smell

of alcohol, approached me and said, "Hey Man, I'm the

Messiah." Obviously it wasn't hard to conclude this dude

was delusional. Now, Jesus made some pretty

extraordinary claims as well, such as the claim to be

God. But should we believe him?

Maybe he was delusional—like that man?

Maybe Jesus was lying? Is it

reasonable to believe these alternative explanations?

Well, no.

And here are some reasons why.

First, I don't think it's reasonable to believe Jesus was

lying, because he performed miracles as direct proof of

his divine claims, as Mark records in his Gospel 2:5-7,

when Jesus heals a paralytic to justify his claim to have

power to forgive sins—something only God can do.

Furthermore, it's clear from Mark's Gospel the Sanhedrin

sentenced Jesus to death for

his claims to be God, and Jesus accepted it.

People don't die for what they know to be a lie.

Okay, well maybe he wasn't a liar, but perhaps he was a

lunatic. I don't think this explanation works either.

The historical evidence is such that even skeptics

conclude Jesus was a wise man. But if he was wise,

don't you think he's wise enough to know who he is?

Furthermore, there are no few examples in the Gospels

where Jesus' audiences were amazed with the things he

said, and he often read their minds. This is not lunatic

type behavior. So, if Jesus is not a liar, and not a lunatic,

well then he must be Lord. If you want to learn more

about this topic and others like it, be sure to visit our

Los Angeles Women's March 2017 | UPROXX Reports - Duration: 1:16.

I'm marching for the right to choose for

what you want to do with your own body.

I'm marching in the hope that it's a step towards

creating a more equal society for everyone.

Yo marcho hoy por la communidad indocumentada

Britt: Tell me why you're here.

I'm here because I am a feminist.

I'm here for my sisters, my mom, my girlfriend.

And, I'm here because I want my rights.

What is the purpose of the march?

I think that a lot of people are experiencing

a lot of pain and hopelessness,

and not understanding what they can do.

Britt: What do you think is the importance

of everyone coming out together,

mobilizing, connecting with other people?

I think it's important just to not forget

that we are seen and we are visible to everyone.

When we do come together

it shows that we are powerful.

Today, I feel like, is the day that we

have to respond, we have to show the world

that we're not going to be ok with this.

We're not going to normalize it.

Women have been marching for over 50 years

and they still don't have equal rights,

so I think it's about time now, you know,

we step up to the plate and really make a change.

We spoke to a lot of people,

we heard a lot of opinions.

Until next time, this is Britt with Uproxx Reports.

Deer - Manchester Orchestra (cover by Sterling) - Duration: 2:40.

Half a year and here you are again I'd go out in public if nobody ever asked

I sit home and drink alone and hope that bottle speaks, like you, like us, like me

Half a year again, now it's a whole February stationary from you on the wall

And I sit home and plead the throne to speak to speak to me to me, to me, hasn't said a

single thing You're probably too busy with your work

Or am I just excusing you for leaving me alone?

There's nothing in these wooden drawers to bring you back, or to keep me bored

I don't know what to do with me no more Dear everyone I ever really knew, I acted

like an asshole so I could keep my edge on you

Ended up abusing even those I thought immune I killed the kingdom with one move and now

it's time to move Dear everybody that has paid to see my band,

it's still confusing, we'll never understand I acted like an asshole so my albums would

never burn But I'm hungry now, and the scraps are dirty

Candidate Fair: What Starbucks Drink are You? - Duration: 0:47.

I would probably be a hot chocolate.

It's literally, like, a warm hug on a cold winter day... and it's just so delicious.

The one thing I'm obsessed with is vanilla ice cream.

The vanilla frappuccino, because it is like an ice cream in a cup.

And it's like breakfast, it's dinner, it's lunch, it's all good things.

I think would probably be hot chocolate, cause that's the only thing I used to make when

I used to work at Starbucks.

Three pumps of mocha, one pump of vanilla with some steamed milk; that's how you make

a Starbucks hot chocolate.

I'm just gonna go with my regular order, which is just a black coffee cause it's strong.

Oo, I can't, cause I have never had the coffee at Starbucks.

Although, I love apple juice.

I always drink tea, mint tea.

But, I'm so sorry... please vote for me.

*laughs*
