Did Chuck Schumer Just Threaten Donald Trump?

by Tyler Durden.

As the financial crisis jolted the nation in September, Senator Charles E. Schumer was

consumed. He traded telephone calls with bankers, then became one of the first officials to

promote a Wall Street bailout. He spent hours in closed-door briefings and a weekend helping

Congressional leaders nail down details of the $700 billion rescue package.

The next day, Mr. Schumer appeared at a breakfast fund-raiser in Midtown Manhattan for Senate

Democrats. Addressing Henry R. Kravis, the buyout billionaire, and about 20 other finance

industry executives, he warned that a bailout would be a hard sell on Capitol Hill. Then

he offered some reassurance: The businessmen could count on the Democrats to help steer

the nation through the financial turmoil.

We are not going to be a bunch of crazy, anti-business liberals, one executive said,

summarizing Mr. Schumers remarks. We are going to be effective, moderate advocates

for sound economic policies, good responsible stewards you can trust.

The message clearly resonated. The next week, executives at firms represented at the breakfast

sent in more than $135,000 in campaign donations.

He succeeded in limiting efforts to regulate credit-rating agencies, for example, sponsored

legislation that cut fees paid by Wall Street firms to finance government oversight, pushed

to allow banks to have lower capital reserves and called for the revision of regulations

to make corporations balance sheets more transparent.

At times in Congress, Mr. Schumer has teamed up with Republicans, like former Senator Phil

Gramm of Texas, who aggressively promoted a free-market agenda. Mr. Schumer pushed for

the Gramm-Leach-Bliley law, passed in November 1999, which knocked down the walls between

investment banks and commercial banks and allowed financial supermarkets to flourish. The

law also weakened regulatory oversight by fracturing it among different agencies.

From The New York Times article: A Champion of Wall Street Reaps Benefits

Great way to start off the new year for the Democrats. New Senate Minority leader, and

Wall Street mega-defender, Chuck Schumer just went on Rachel Maddows MSNBC show and warned

Donald Trump that U.S. intelligence agencies could retaliate against him for disagreeing

with their claims (based on no public evidence thus far) that Russia hacked the DNC/John

Podesta and released it to Wikileaks with the intent of helping Trump win the election.

Heres what he said courtesy of The Washington Examiner:

The new leader of Democrats in the Senate says Donald Trump is being really dumb

for picking a fight with intelligence officials, suggesting they have ways to strike back,

after the president-elect speculated Tuesday that his so-called briefing about Russian

cyberattacks had been delayed in order to build a case.

Let me tell you: You take on the intelligence community they have six ways from Sunday

at getting back at you, said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer Tuesday evening on MSNBC

after host Rachel Maddow informed him that intelligence sources told NBC news that the

briefing had not been delayed. Now watch the clip for yourself. Im certain

the near permanent grin on his face will not be lost upon you either.

The exchange is especially disturbing given the CIAs not so warm and fuzzy history,

both internally and externally. For some light reading on the matter, I strongly suggest

the following post, How Americas Modern Shadow Government Can Be Traced Back to One

Very Evil Man Allen Dulles. Heres a brief passage to whet your appetite:

Allen Dulles, the CIA director under presidents Eisenhower and Kennedy, the younger brother

of Secretary of State John Foster Dulles, and the architect of a secretive national

security apparatus that functioned as essentially an autonomous branch of government. Talbot

offers a portrait of a black-and-white Cold War-era world full of spy games and nuclear

brinkmanship, in which everyone is either a good guy or a bad guy. Dulleswho deceived

American elected leaders and overthrew foreign ones, who backed ex-Nazis and thwarted left-leaning

democratsfalls firmly in the latter camp.

But what I was really trying to do was a biography on the American power elite from World War

II up to the 60s. That was the key period when the national security state was constructed

in this country, and where it begins to overshadow American democracy. Its almost like Game

of Thrones to me, where you have the dynastic struggles between these power groups within

the American system for control of the country and the world

Absolutely. The surveillance state that Snowden and others have exposed is very much a legacy

of the Dulles past. I think Dulles would have been delighted by how technology and other

developments have allowed the American security state to go much further than he went. He

had to build a team of cutthroats and assassins on the ground to go around eliminating the

people he wanted to eliminate, who he felt were in the way of American interests. He

called them communists. We call them terrorists today. And of course the most controversial

part of my book, Im sure, will be the end, where I say there was blowback from that.

Because that killing machine in some way was brought back home.

Threaten the U.S. President-elect with the CIA. How liberal.

ENGLISH EXPRESS

And finally, it's the big day, those five slang terms for sexual acts here on Amigo Gringo Express.

What a pain, son of a beach!

Oh, it's our friend Aguinaldo, the guy from Acre state who is always have trouble with English. Aguinaldo, I'm going to lose my fans if you keep bugging me here.

Right, but this time it's different. I'm saying words in English that I've been using for years in Brazil without a problem, but it seems no one understands me here.

Like what?

OK, I saw an illuminated advertisement, like the ones in Times Square, and I told my gringa girlfriend, "I like the outdoor." And she says, "I like the fresh air as well."

And on Saturday I tried to have an "open house" in my new apartment. But everyone who showed up wanted to buy my house! My friends didn't even show up,

dagnabbit! What the heck? And just now I opened a new cellphone account and asked for a "chip".

And look at what the guy gave me, potato chips!

OK, Aguinaldo, I get it. What's going on here is that when you Brazilians adopt an English word, sometimes the meaning changes.

For example, "outdoor" for us - really it's "outdoors" - means outside in the fresh air.

That big advertisement that Aguinaldo saw in Times Square is a "billboard."

And here, an "open house" isn't a party. It's when someone who wants to sell their house opens it up to people interested in buying it.

Your "open house" is called a "housewarming" here. And what you called a chip, is called a "SIM card" here.

"Chip" for us could be potato chips, or it could also be a chip of a "notebook computer", but not the chip in a cellphone.

Notebook! That's another example. I wanted to use my girlfriend's "notebook" and she gave me this!

Ah, ok, the word "caderno" in English is "notebook." What you wanted was a laptop.

That's great that you explained it to me. Some people think I'm a dummy, but I have my MBA in Art History.

Huh, ok, don't say that here, Aguinaldo. Here, an MBA is only for business administration, without specialization.

It seems like a joke to say "MBA in art" or "MBA in public administration." Here, it's just business administration.

OK, I'm out of here, Amigo Gringo. Ah, tomorrow do you want to come with me to a "black music" concert?

"Black music"? Offensive.

Abraham Hicks - Jerry e Abraham conversam sobre egoísmo - Duration: 5:17.

[Jerry Hicks] Another area...

A big area!

The area of relationships.

There were times when it was difficult for me

To allow friends to have their thoughts and beliefs and their activities...

And family members...

[Abraham] - When you are using the word allow, in this sense, what do you mean?

[Jerry Hicks] - I felt like they should think the way and act the way I wanted them to think act.

And when they didn't do that, I was very uncomfortable.

[Abraham] - And so as you were observing what they were doing or what they were speaking...

You felt negative emotion.

[Jerry Hicks] - Uhum!

[Abraham] - Your signal that you are not inthe state of allowing

[Jerry Hicks] - And I, at that time, thought of myself as a very selfless

In other words, I was not a selfish person.

And so I expected them to be less selfish.

And more giving.

And the fact that they weren't it was very disturbing to me.

[Abraham] - Indeed.

[Jerry Hicks] - I found a book - another book.

David Seabury's book: "The art of selfishness"

That made me look at selfishness from another perspective...

That I was able to release a lot there.

[Abraham] - It is important that you allow yourself to pay attention to what you are wanting

And there are those that call that selfishness

And they do so in a judging or disapproving way

And we say to you that, unless you have a healthy view of self

Unless you are allowing yourself to want

And expecting to receive that which you are wanting

You will never be deliberate in your creating and you will never have satisfying experience

And so selfishness is important!

Usually you do not think of allowing yourself!

And yet allowing yourself is very important

And what we mean by that is looking at yourself

Looking at what you are thinking, looking at what you are speaking, looking at what you are doing

And feeling positive emotion while you are noticing that

Looking into you

Intending to see what you are wanting to see

And in seeing it, feeling satisfaction or positive emotion

[Jerry Hicks] - Uhum!

[Abraham] - When you are aproving or liking or allowing yourself to be as you are

Then you will be more likely to be able to allow others to be also

In this not allowing of self is usually where the not allowing of others comes forth

Usually the one who was most disapproving of a quality in himself

Notices that very quality in the others.

And disapproves of it in their as well

And so, in accepting and an approving and appreciating and allowing of self

Is the first step in appreciating or approving or of allowing of others, you see?

And it does not mean that you must wait until you are by your standards perfect

Or that they are by their standards perfect

For there will never be that perfect ending place

For you all ever changing, ever growing beings

It means looking intending to see in you what you are wanting to see

Or intending to see another is what you are wanting to see.

If there is another who sees something in you that they do not approve of

So often you see them see it.

[Jerry Hicks] - Uhum!

[Abraham] - You see their disapproval reflected back through their eyes

And you feel that you have gone wrong in some way

And we say it to you: it is not your lack, it is theirs.

It is their inability to be a allower that brings forth their negative emotion

Not your imperfection!

And in like way, when you feel negative emotion because you have seen something in another that you are not wanting to see

It is not their lack, it is your own

And you are reaping the negative reward of that or the negative emotion of that

And so when you decide that you are wanting to see only that which pleases you

Then you will begin to see only that which pleases you

And all of your experiences will bring forth positive emotion

Because by law of attraction you will attract unto you only that which is in harmony with what you are wanting

The reason that few have achieved it is because few are appreciate self

Few are intending to see only that which they are wanting to see

Few are being decisive about anything!

And so they are having some of many experiences

Some of them good, some of them bad but they are not in state of allowing

Because at times they have negative emotion.

you about an epidemic sweeping the nation.

No, not cancer.

No, not obesity.

No, not Tafucisin.

Green beans!

Last year green beans were responsible for over three million deaths in Texas alone,

and have bee the cause of every major assassination for the last 200 years.

Lincoln, John Lenin, Kennedy, all of them. And today I'm going to teach you and your

family to protect yourselves from the menace that is green beans.

I'm a doctor.

We got a 911 call, said it was an emergency.

Yes officer, it's right there.

Those are green beans.

Yes, and you should be as afraid of them as I am.

Green beans are totally normal.

They're anything but normal officer, they're evil.

All I know is that whenever I use them in a surgery instead of a real ligament, my patient

always ends up dying a horrible death.

How are you a doctor?

Why is there blood on your shirt?

That's not blood, it's uh, pomegranate juice.

Okay, have a nice day then.

Now you're probably wondering: how do I protect myself and my family from the green beans.

Well, it would appear there's only one, final solution. You'll have to eat them.

And yes, I know it's cannibalism, but it has to be done.

Oh God.

It's that gross.

Cannibalism isn't fun.

Oh hello, Dr. Morgan here, renowned pediatrician, and real human bean, and my dying legume's

friend's last wish was for me to tell you to click there to subscribe.

And hit there for the mystery box.

I'm a doctor.

WYP - S2:E1 - My Students Don't Read - Duration: 6:40.

[Music Intro]

Jason: Hi. My name is Jason.

Kaylynn: And I'm Kaylynn.

Jason: Welcome to SEASON 2 of What's Your Problem?

We're happy to be back and so pleased with your kind words and positive feedback about our show!

Season 1 was only the beginning. This season promises to bring even more thoughtful discussion

about current issues in Distance Learning and Education as well as feature thoughts and advice from students and instructors alike!

So, without further ado, Adam, What's our problem?

Adam: Thanks Jason. Today, we're tackling a really common complaint – my students don't read!

I mean, how many times have you had to ask a confused student - Did you read the directions? – Did you read the chapter? –

Did you see the Announcement?

When we've taken such great care to provide students with all of the information they need to be successful,

it can be frustrating when they seem not to take advantage of it.

And, while it's easy to chock this problem up to pure student laziness –

it can actually be a much more complicated issue than that.

In fact, there are several factors that influence whether or not students will read -

and comprehend – the material presented in your course.

Fortunately, we have some simple tips to help you identify and combat these factors –

ultimately reducing student confusion, and your own frustration. So, Jason and Kaylynn – why won't my students read?!

Kaylynn: Thanks, Adam.

A long reading that may or may not directly relate to the learning objectives

at hand is one of the easiest ways to lose student's interest in the course content.

The first solution we have is to keep the basics in mind.

When you find your students are failing comprehension checkpoints

or asking questions that can easily be answered in the readings,

it's time for you to take the chunking strategy and pair it with meaningful reading selections.

As a reminder, chunking can be applied to a reading by breaking up the large amount of text into smaller parts.

According to George A. Miller who founded the concept in 1956,

"students can hold seven (plus or minus two) chunks of information at one time" before their short-term memory is "full".

When their short-term memory bank is full, they will have trouble concentrating, applying, and learning any more new information.

Thus, chunking readings and having students only focus on the bits of content they need to master the learning objectives, is key.

If one week consists of having students read two articles on different topics,

plus a full chapter in the text,

precede the article readings with an introduction that let's students know which learning objective this is helping them achieve

and how they will apply it later in the week (this will help them focus on specific aspects of the articles).

Regarding the chapter reading, break it down into several sections of reading throughout the week instead of one big chunk.

This will help reading seem less intimidating and more valuable to students.

Once the readings are curated to be targeted and meaningful,

students will be more engaged with the weekly readings because they find high value and deep meaning within them.

Jason: That's right, Kaylynn.

Curating and selecting the most meaningful selections is a great way to boost student engagement with reading.

But what if students don't even bother to get the book in the first place?

Our second solution for students not reading assigned material has to do with Open educational resources, or OERs.

Some students are not turned off by long reading assignments; they are turned off by purchasing expensive textbooks.

One solution for this problem would be to use an OER in your course.

Imagine if you knew for 100% certain that every student had the required textbook on day 1 of the class?

That's precisely what it would be like with an OER.

OERs are completely online, free to use, and in many cases, free to modify texts available for anyone to use.

OERs are growing in abundance and are becoming very popular as a way to slightly reduce the financial strain

of higher education without having to sacrifice anything academically.

Imagine if Ron and Harry from the incomparable Harry Potter series didn't have to show up to Sixth Year Potions class without a book?

Dumbledore would probably still be alive! It's a matter of life and death!

Now using OERs do sometimes require some extra prep-work from the instructor to implement

and not every discipline is as well-suited for one.

However, ensuring that every student has the reading material from day one will change the game

when it comes to students reading assigned material.

According to a higher education journal, 9 out of 10 studies on OER showed that the use of OER was connected with higher learning outcomes.

And if an OER textbook is not for you, there are plenty of other quality resources that the school already provides student access to

including video sites, journal archives and the numerous Library resources.

For a list of available Open Educational Resources, visit the Training and Development tab on the Distance Learning Organization Page

or the Schoolcraft Library LibGuides site.

Kaylynn: Thanks, Jason. Besides chunking and utilizing OERs, our last solution to this problem is to differentiate your instruction!

Supplement your readings with other media to increase student engagement.

Other types of activities and exercises include videos, games, image analyzations, and graphic representations.

The only caveat to adding other media is making sure it is accessible to all students

(i.e. closed captions, non-Flash based, and alternative descriptions for images).

These are great tools to utilize in between readings to reinforce a concept.

Whether your readings are advanced, complicated, "easy" or short, supplemental instructional items will help students learn the

information in a different way, possibly a better way for their personal learning style.

Studies have shown that students will only engage with a reading for between 5 and 8 minutes

before they become distracted from their purpose.

By breaking up a longer reading with a video or game,

students will stay engaged and focused on the concept instead of drifting off into cyberspace.

Adam: So as a quick recap, we can't FORCE our students to read.

We can, however, purposefully select and present material in ways that increase the likelihood of students engaging with the reading.

The first solution we offered was to break the reading material into smaller, more focused selections –

making the reading more manageable for students while also improving their ability to comprehend key concepts.

Secondly, providing resources that are free to students eliminates the major barrier of cost and ensures that students will actually have access to

the necessary materials from the beginning.

And finally, including other forms of media – such as videos, images, and educational games –

will reinforce the assigned readings and break up the text, making students more likely to progress all the way through the material.

Jason: What's Your Problem wants to hear from you.

If you have an idea you'd like us to discuss in a future episode or if you just want to drop us a line, send us an email or follow us on Twitter.

Kaylynn: Thanks for watching. We'll see you next time!

Giant Pacific Octopus Adventure | JONATHAN BIRD'S BLUE WORLD - Duration: 21:00.

Coming up on Jonathan Bird's Blue World, Jonathan

witnesses a pair of Giant Pacific Octopuses

engaged in a knock-down, drag-out fight!

Hi, I'm Jonathan Bird

and welcome to my world!

[ ♪ music ]

The Giant

Pacific Octopus is the largest octopus in the world,

reaching 150 pounds, with a 20 foot armspan.

And while you might expect

this super cephalopod to live in warm water, it actually lives

in the northern Pacific, where the water is typically below

55 degrees fahrenheit. To begin my introduction to this wonderful

eight-armed master of disguise, I head down to the New England Aquarium

in Boston, to check out their new Giant Pacific Octopus

exhibit, where anyone can see a Giant Pacific Octopus up

close--without getting wet.

Fortunately, my good friend

Bill Murphy is the senior aquarist in the cold water gallery

and he invited me behind the scenes to meet the stars of the exhibit.

Hey Bill! Thanks for having me down to learn about your octopus

exhibit! Absolutely! Great having you back!

So this is the new behind the scenes! I know! This tank was just

newly renovated back in April. It just opened up for our "Tentacles" theme

program. And of course the stars of the

show, the animals with the tentacles. Yup, we'll go around this side

and show you right here, this is our octopus exhibit.

Nice strong latches on the door. Wow!

You have got to have some security! So tell me about the astroturf.

The astroturf is a way to deter them from escaping the tank.

They can't get a suction grip on the astroturf so they can't climb the walls to get out.

And if you didn't have this, they would get out? They would!

They are very curious and they love to explore new areas, so they would just constantly

find their way, and they would climb the walls or climb to a spot and get out. So they are exactly

like Hank! They are exactly like Hank! They will escape

and they will find their way! Wow, that's a very clever way

to keep them in there huh? Does she have a name?

She does. This is Sy. How do you spell that? S-Y.

Easy to remember. Sy? Sy.

Alright Sy, we need some cooperation, but there's going

to be something in it for you! The first thing Bill shows me

is how he feeds the octopuses. Zip-tie and a long pole

is the easiest way to reach them without getting wet. OK.

I'll give her a little tap and wake her up. Uh oh she's already

got it. Once she gets a taste of fish, she comes out for more

and I can really see how big Sy is. I interact

like this on a regular basis, so she recognizes me. She also associates me with food because

I feed her. You can see how big she is, spreading across the tank. Wow, how big

is she? That's like 6 feet across, more than 6 feet. More than 6 feet

across. I'll probably give her 10 feet across when she is fully stretched out. And how much do you think

she weighs? I would probably say she weighs about 35

pounds. That is a big cephalopod!

Give her the fish, she takes it. She takes

it right to her mouth on her beak, which is right in the center of all of her arms.

[ ♪ funny music ]

Well that was quick. You want to feed her one?

Sure. A shrimp? OK so what do I do?

Just stick it in one of her arms and her suction cups. Let her grab it. Oh, there she goes.

That's it.

Must be hard to manipulate all those arms and suckers.

They seem to do a good job at it! So if I put my

hand down, is she going to suck on? Yes she will. So reach out and

touch a little right there, let her grab on to you.

Oh that is so cool. [laughs]

Ooh that's the weirdest feeling ever! And the weird thing about it is

that they're cold! Do you think they like the warmth?

They like the feel of it? Or they're just curious? I think it's

a lot of curiosity. They can taste with their suction cups. That's how they recognize

differences in people is the taste, a lot of times. They can also recognize people by

sight as well, but I think it's the difference in people and how they taste and what's going on.

How they taste? How do I taste? I showered this morning, I shouldn't

taste too bad. She's working her way

up here. Yup. That's the hard part part when you interact with these things.

You have to be mindful of all eight of their arms, you can't

just look at the one that's on to you, there are other ones sneaking up the sides that you have to be aware of as well.

She's trying to get in here. Where's she going?

Wow, that is smooth!

Smooth and cold. Very cold.

Well, they are very cold animals. They are found in the Pacific northwest, all the way from

Alaska to northern California. Oh hello!

I've been squirted!

There's one siphon on the bottom where they can go to the left side or the right side.

They can point it and squirt you with it.

[laughing] As if on cue!

She's like "Yeah, that's how it works!"

[laughing] She's no dummy!

She's listening!

You want to do it? OK. Somewhere in here?

There we go, right there. I got

this and you haven't. Yoo hoo!

Got it? I was trying to fight her for it.

Oh jeez! [laughs]

Camera destroyed by an octopus.

She's got me!

Is she doing that on purpose? Yes!

What a stinker!

Oh my goodness, so funny!

Bill gives her a few more fish so she gets enough food for the day.

And I can't resist holding hands with her.

The suction cups feel so cool!

I'm telling ya, that is one cold handshake!

That's like shaking hands with a snowman.

With suction cups. Uh oh, this can't be good.

This is bad.

Protect the shirt. Wow, she is strong, man!

She is strong.

And heavy. Bill has to pull Sy's arm

off of mine, but it doesn't hurt the octopus or me.

Suction cups! [sound of suction cups being pulled off]

To learn more about the Giant Pacific Octopus, Bill and I are

heading from Boston to Seattle--octopus central.

Six hours on a plane and we can dive with the Giant Pacific Octopus

in the actual Pacific ocean.

Seattle is a beautiful city right on the shore of Puget Sound.

But it's

also known for being rainy. Like really rainy.

[thunder] So we're not surprised that when we arrive, its

pouring. But we won't let a little rain spoil our fun.

We hope in our rental van, and head on over to our first stop, the

Seattle Aquarium. Hi Kathryn! Hi Jonathan, good morning!

Nice to meet you! Nice to meet you! Where I meet aquarist Kathryn

Kegel. And there's an octopus in here? There is. There's actually two in there.

Let's check it out!! Alright! Thanks!

The Seattle Aquarium is a beautiful facility, which focuses most of its exhibits on marine

life of the Pacific Northwest.

The underwater dome puts the visitor

right in the middle of a prolific kelp forest.

You can meet sea otters and harbor seals.

As well as freshwater life,

jellyfish and more.

But I'm most interested in this killer exhibit...

...the Giant Pacific Octopus. Kathryn

introduces me to Lucy. This is our female octopus Lucy

and she is probably about 2-1/2 to 3 years old.

She is close to about 40 pounds and

she is pretty active this morning. I think she knew you were coming. Is she always swimming

around like this? So um they tend to be den-dwelling animals

out in the wild. So during the day they are going to be denned up and sleeping.

They are active at night and early in the morning, and early evening so it's

pretty early in the morning here, so she is out and crawling around. What do you

normally feed her? So these guys love crabs. So out in the wild

they're hunting crabs, they're going after clams, shrimp, we have some

dungeness crab for her this morning so when she settles down we can

give her some crab and see if she'll eat it. She is showing off a little bit, this is kind of a hunting

behavior for them. When they're out and they're looking for crab they're going to swim and they'll actually

balloon down onto their food, trap it, they will release

a toxin that will paralyze the animal so that they can now take it apart piece

by piece and eat that crab. While Lucy is giving us a show, there's another

octopus in the tank just chilling out. Let's see this other

guy over here that you're got. Yeah, so that was our female and this is our

male Odie. It's time for Odie to be fed, so Kathryn is going

to give him a big delicious crab! We've got some Dungeness

crab here. This is some of their absolute favorite food. Now that looks like local crab. It is.

This is local crab, a delicacy here

in Seattle. Oh people eat them too? Oh yes, absolutely.

This is food fit for people. This is human grade food, yup,

these guys eat better than we do here at the aquarium! [laughs] We climb up

to the top of the tank, and Kathryn suggests I give Odie the crab.

If I were to feed him, what would I do, exactly? You want to just put him on his

sucker disks. Really? So if I just go like this...

Should I just drop it? Yes,

you can just give it to him. He will take it.

Now he has lost interest in the light, hopefully. Oh I wouldn't...he's

multi-talented. He's got 8 arms dude! He can multi-task

with the best of them. So he's got the light,

and he's got the crab....

The next day,

we load the van to head out to a popular local dive site.

We're joining Kathryn and her team from the Seattle Aquarium in their annual

Giant Pacific Octopus survey. The dive site is right across

the bay from the city. The octopus surveys

are part of an ongoing effort by the aquarium to assess

wild octopus populations. So Bill and I put

our gear together to join them.

We will be diving with drysuits, so we don our

warm undergarments in the van.

[ struggling noises and laughing ]

It's not working! I can't

get my shoulder in! I don't know what your problem is.

In fact as the only dry place to work,

our van has become our portable dive shop.

That's always enjoyable!

Alright! I take my camera down to the beach

before we put on all the heavy stuff.

[ ♪ music ]

Once we're suited up, it's time to

hit the water.

[ ♪ music ]

We swim out to

deeper water before descending.

Don't go away!

Coming up, Jonathan films an incredible octopus fight!

Sinking

into the green Puget Sound water, Bill and I follow Kathryn on her

octopus hunt. Along the way, we are able to film some

spectacular examples of Pacific Northwest marine life.

An old pier piling is covered with 2 foot tall Plumose Anemones.

We find a

Chimaera, otherwise known as a ratfish. The Chimaera is an

ancient cousin to the shark. While it looks more like a bony fish,

it has a cartilaginous skeleton like a shark. And while

they're fairly common in deep water, the Pacific Northwest is one of the only

places where they're found in scuba diving depths.

To film this fish is a rare treat for me.

On the bottom, a sea cucumber.

A Dungeness crab.

A shrimp. A frosted Nudibranch.

And the lemon peel nudibranch. A Ling

Cod watches as we pass by, but then Kathryn finds

a Giant Pacific Octopus. It's a small one perched

on a rock, as if he is using the rock as a lookout. As I'm about to

discover, he really likes this rock. From this high

vantage point, he can keep an eye out for something to eat.

But not far away, another octopus is watching

him. This guy wants that rock for himself

and he has a plan.

He makes his move, stealthily moving

in on the rock.

But the king of the hill easily sees him coming, and he's

not about to give up his rock without a fight.

[ ♪ music ]

An octopus' only weapon against

another octopus is its powerful beak, located underneath its arms.

Each octopus is attempting to bite the other one with

its beak.

The challenger

retreats to rethink his position.

Should he call it a day? Or give it one last

try?

That is a really nice rock.

He decides to go for it.

But it's clear

he cannot win this fight, and will not take the rock.

The challenger retreats.

It's good to be the king!

But his victory is short-lived. While the

challenger ducks into a hole in defeat, another challenger

is getting ready to move his move. A third

octopus is watching. He's much smaller,

and wouldn't fare well in a one-on-one confrontation with the larger animal

that's defending the rock. His plan is sneak

attack. A stealthy

approach underneath the rock.

But it doesn't work.

Retreat is the only option.

I could easily stay and film the

exciting social lives of octopods all day. But alas,

my air supply is limited. It's time to head back to the rainy world

above. We work our way up into shallower water

While we do a safety decompression stop at 15 feet, we have plenty

to see. Then we surface.

Hey there you are! My Giant Pacific

Octopus adventure has been quite an experience! Very strong!

I visited two aquaria, where I got to learn about this

super cephalopod. Yeah, you can just give it to him.

Then I did dives in Puget Sound, where I met them in the wild, and even witnessed

a spectacular octopus fight!

I don't always get this lucky. But when I do,

it reminds me why the Blue World is my favorite

place to be!

Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck by Mark Manson - Book Review - Duration: 6:45.

I was driving back up from Dallas to

Wichita after the New Year.

My older brother lives down there.

And on these long drives I really like

listening to audiobooks. And one of the

ones that I listened to on the way up

this time was The Subtle Art of Not

Giving a Fuck by Mark Manson. And the

reason why I wanted to do a video on it

today is because it does a very good job

on offering a different insight into how

you live your life.

Similar to the The Four Agreements book.

This one has a lot of philosophy mixed

in and I wanted to jump in and give

you the three main points that I took

away from this book and show you how you

can implement them to improve your life.

So let's jump into it.

Number one is we're all going to die

soon. Mark talks about in the book, how

when he was a kid he was hanging out

with one of his friends and one of his

friends decided to jump off this cliff.

They were going cliff diving, but his

friend jumped off in the middle of the

night and didn't know how to swim.

He was just super drunk and he decided to

jump off this cliff and he ended up dying

because of it. And Mark internalized that

hard when he realized that we're

all gonna die soon and you can't really

tell when you're going to die. The

average age for male in the United

States is 74 years old. My dad died

when he was 61. I know a lot of people.

My older brother died when he was

mid thirties. So a lot of people

think they're gonna last for a really

long time, but you're not going to last

very long time and this book made me

think about that. We're all

going to die like fairly soon. Even if

you do last till you're 70. That's

only what? If you're 20 right now.

Five more decades. If you're 30, 4

more decades. We're all

gonna die and the main takeaway here

is it doesn't really matter then. Right?

Worst-case scenario - you try something

and you fail at it, but you're

gonna die either way so it doesn't

really matter.

Number two is you can only care about

one or two things so make them the big

things. His point here is people care

about way too much stuff in their lives.

For instance, let's say your

sister is really bad with money and

you're always thinking

about it. 'Oh no. Why is she

getting into so much debt?

How can I help her out?' Mark Manson is

saying that's outside of the realm

of your control so you shouldn't worry

about it. The example he gives in the

book is one of his friend's sister was

getting married and then the

brother, his friend, didn't like the guy that

she was getting married to so he was

like constantly like talking up to the

sister about how that was a bad idea,

talking to the guy about how he

shouldn't be getting married. And his

point, Mark's point in this book was that

it doesn't really matter.

Worst-case scenario or not even worse

case scenario. Let's say the sister gets

married to the guy

the only thing that this guy gets from

worrying about the marriage is now he's

super stressed all the time because he

said all this bad stuff to the boyfriend,

now husband, and his sister doesn't like

him. His sister is mad because

he's been shit talking the marriage the

whole time. The better approach

according to mark and I'm seeing the

light in this as well is just to be

hands-off. Realize that you can only care

about one or two things so the

friend and really all of us should just

care about making ourselves

succeed and in best way we

possibly can and not worry about

whether all your friends are having

kids and you're not or whether you're

getting older or you're losing your hair

or any of the stuff that we worry about.

And then finally number three is if you

only care about the goal and you don't

love the work that means you don't want

the goal. And this was freaking

enlightening for me hardcore. I think

Gary Vaynerchuk said something similar

in one of his videos as well, but Mark

said that he wanted to be a rock star in

college. He really wanted to be

up onstage like John Mayer

with a guitar playing and all the girls

being super into him and then he

realized that although he really wanted

to be a rock star, like you wanted that

life, he didn't want to practice as hard

as he could. He didn't want to trudge

through and do the small shows, he didn't

want to do the marketing. All this

small stuff that eventually becomes rock

star and the takeaway he had based on

that was if

he doesn't love practicing, he doesn't

love going through music theory or doing

all that stuff to get to the final goal

he doesn't actually want that goal it's

actually just a dream for him. So he

stopped wanting to be a rock star at

that point and focus on being an author

and a blogger because he liked blogging. And

that was enlightening for me and it made

me think about all the stuff in life

that I want to be, but I'm not actively

working towards. So for instance one of

the things that I really wanted to do

for a long time was make horror films

like scary movies, but I sat down

two months ago to write a horror movie

script and I got about 10 pages in and

realized that I don't really want to

right horror.

I wasn't enjoying the process so

actually I pivoted the whole script and

now... I did actually finish the movie

script about 92 pages long, but it

switched from a horror movie to

more of a drama, like a dark drama.

I might touch on what that is

in the future video, but I liked writing

that a lot more. So my dream of being

the next Wes Craven or the

next horror movie director

kind of died that day when I realized

I don't actually like writing horror

movies. And it's something for you to

think about as well. In your

business.

Do you like the day-to-day? Are you

a real entrepreneur? For me, I love

this grind. I love sending cold

emails. I love talking to customers on

the phone. I love the feeling of when we

make a sale. I like managing people. I love the

one-on-ones. I like the team that we're

working with. All this stuff is

super enticing. Even more than the

far-off goal of like selling the company

or making X dollars, having X

amount of dollars in the bank.

Just the thrill of making

enough money every month to support

myself for my business is enough for me

to keep me going. And that's the kind of

thing that Mark is talking about in this

book. What in your life are you caring

about that you shouldn't be? Leave that

down in the comments and hopefully we

can all start moving forward together. If

Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics unveil Q4 earnings estimates - Duration: 2:56.

That's up almost 50 percent from the same period in 2015.

Sales came to about 45 billion dollars,... down zero-point-six percent on-year.

The forecast on operating profit beats a market consensus by almost a billion dollars... and

is the first time to top the nine trillion won mark since the third quarter of 2013.

It's also a significant turnaround from the four-point-three billion dollars it posted

in the third quarter -- which reflected losses from the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 smartphone.

"This time it's mostly semiconductor play.

More than half the profit is coming from the semiconductor division.

But that's also propelled by the smartphone market.

You can see the feature sets in smartphones is getting richer and more improved.

So the required memory content has to increase, so that's boosting the memory division.

But Samsung's mobile division isn't enjoying the extra boost they used to have in the Q4

because they don't have the Note 7."

For local rival LG Electronics, however, it wasn't such a rosy picture -- with its operating

income turning to the red.

The company is estimated to have posted an operating loss of almost 30 million dollars

in the fourth quarter of last year.

That compares with a profit of 292 million dollars for the same period in 2015.

Sales are expected to come in at 12-point-3 billion -- up one-and-a-half percent from

"It seems LG's smartphone division appears to have posted a greater loss in the fourth

quarter,... as its flagship model wasn't the best seller.

On top of that, it has been streamlining its mobile business,... and the costs from that

will likely be reflected in the fourth quarter."

On top of that, rising panel prices and seasonal factors, are expected to have also hurt profits

of LG's traditional cash cows -- like its home appliances and home entertainment sectors.

The two companies will release their final earnings reports -- with a breakdown of performance

by unit -- later this month.

Stubborn Ignorant Christians - Duration: 6:28.

There is a lot of deception among Christians, a lot of false teaching, doctrines away from

the truth.

There is only one truth and that truth is Jesus Christ.

If we are deceived it is by our own will that we are deceived.

I will tell you, why.

We read in James 1:5 "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all

generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him."

Why do we not have wisdom if it is so easy to get wisdom by just asking the Lord Jesus

in prayer?

The reason is that we think that we are clever and it is especially the educated people that

close out the true knowledge from the Holy Spirit.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is so easy that a child can understand it.

Jesus said that the Kingdom of God belongs to children, little children.

Why?

They just accept it, but the clever adults are so indoctrinated and so opinionated that

they will not even take any wisdom from God.

They read all kinds of books, each others thoughts and their own interpretations; they

are too wise to accept an answer from God.

We read in Luke 24:45 Jesus opened the mind of His disciples, He says "He opened their

minds to understand the Scriptures."

Unless Christ Himself opens our mind we cannot understand the scriptures.

The carnal mind cannot understand it and that is why we are in darkness.

Because we try and figure things out with our minds and we are not dependent on Jesus

Christ.

We don't go to the Lord in prayer and say: Lord teach me Your ways!

That is why we are IGNORANT, why we will be JUDGED for our STUBBORN IGNORANCE.

If we ASK from the Lord Jesus we shall receive.

The reason why people do not receive is because they are opinionated.

If the Lord Jesus Himself tells you something and you something contrary to your understanding

or insight of the Bible you refuse to accept it.

If we are more clever than Christ, He will not talk to us.

If I filter everything that the Holy Spirit tells me, He will not speak to me.

I think that I know better than Jesus, He will not speak to me, He will ignore me.

If I go to Christ and I ask for wisdom I must go with an open mind, trust in the Lord and

then He will reveal Himself to me.

If we regard our own insight, "discernment" which is just prejudice, more than Christ,

I idolize myself and I reject God.

The only true wisdom is in Jesus Christ.

We must trust in Him and not lean on out own understanding.

We must ASK HIM to OPEN OUR MIND, then we will gain understanding.

It is written in Revelations 3:18 Jesus said: "I advise you to buy from Me gold refined

by fire so that you may become rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself,

and that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your

eyes so that you may see."

Unless the Holy Spirit open our eyes we will not see we will be blinded.

Blinded by our own ARROGANCE.

And that is why it is closed it is locked up for the clever people of this world, for

the wise people of this world and that is why God will confined the wise and those who

are clever and opinionated.

He will give it to children, He will open it up to those who TRUST HIM, who come to

Him with a trusting heart and say: Lord I don't know how it works?

We need to be reformatted.

If we want to follow Jesus we must TRUST HIM WITH ALL OUR HEART and NOT LEAN ON OUR OWN

UNDERSTANDING.

Not try and filter everything through our own carnal mind.

We must ASK the LORD to OPEN our MINDS and then we will understand the scriptures and

then we will understand many other things as well.

If we don't get into a TRUST RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST we shall never know the

truth and we shall be JUDGE because of idolizing our own mind and our own insight our own stubbornness

will JUDGE us.

Celebrities That Are Apparently Really Good In Bed - Duration: 3:00.

Have you ever been watching the news about some beautiful celeb and wondered

to yourself how they are in bed?

If you're watching this list then you most definitely have. So don't worry,

because this list is here to help you out and set you straight.

This list incorporates all of that, and boils it down to the top 3,

in no particular order.

Rihanna

This is a woman who is completely comfortable talking about sex, when naked

cellphone images of her were leaked online,

she said she felt bad for any guy whose girlfriend didn't send him nude pics.

And she once said, "I think I'm a bit

masochistic ... I love to be tied up and spanked. I like to be whipped ...

But I prefer to be spontaneous. Using whips and chains is too planned...

you have to stop and look for the whip. I prefer them to use their hands."

Channing Tatum

Channing Tatum. This is the kind of guy many guys wish they could be:

not only is Tatum handsome, but those around

him say he is a wonderful person in addition to having an amazing sense of humor.

I mean, the dude knows how to move. Just ask any

woman who saw the movie. "But of course," you say, "he's an actor, they taught him that stuff."

Wrong. Channing Tatum was actually a male stripper before he was an actor.

He was a guy who made money off of his body.

It is no great leap of the imagination to assume that he knows what he's doing in bed.

Beyonce

Beyonce is always a perfect 10.

It boggles my mind how there could be infidelity rumors between Jay Z and

Beyonce, because who in their right mind would cheat on her?!

If you have never seen Beyonce dance than you are missing out on a pretty obvious tip as to Beyonce's sexual prowess:

girl knows how to work it!

Not to mention that despite falling in love with her every time she walks away,

she is gorgeous, brilliant, and one of the most talented singers in the world.

Combine all that into your head, and you don't even need to wonder if

Beyonce is any good in bed. You just need to know she's too good!

Korea considers lowering voting age to 18 - Duration: 2:49.

An emerging debate in Korea lately has been lowering the voting age from the current 19

years to 18.

Public opinion as well as the political realm remains divided.

With some countries seeking to move the voting age back up to as old as 21 and others pushing

down to 18, what is the best option for Korea?

Our Kim Hyesung hit the streets of Seoul to gauge how 18-year-olds in this country feel

about the possibility.

Koreans under age eighteen are legally allowed to get a driver's license, get married and

enter the civil service.

But when it comes to voting,... that's a no.

And with some Korean political parties moving to change that, some high school students

are also showing an interest -- or they're at least debating the idea.

"I support lowering the voting age to 18.

When you look at voting demographics, conservative, older voters outnumber young voters.

I think younger people like us should have better representation, especially on issues

like history textbooks and education-related policies."

"I disagree.

We're already busy studying for the college entrance exam, and we aren't completely informed

about politics.

If 18-year-olds could vote, we would most likely be influenced by our parents' political

views, and not necessarily form our own ideas."

"Adults say we don't know much about politics, but that's not true.

Look at the candlelight rallies; we are politically aware.

I think our voices need to be heard."

Currently, almost all countries in the OECD allow 18-year-olds to vote, Korea being an

exception, and Austria has granted the franchise to 16-year-olds.

In 2015, Japan lowered the voting age from 20 to 18 to better represent young people

in its rapidly aging society.

Though students appear relatively eager for a change, opinion among teachers is mixed.

A recent poll by the "Good Teacher Movement" of over 800 teachers... showed that around

62 percent support lowering the voting age to 18.

And experts say, the decision should be made with caution.

- "Without a doubt, Korea's democracy has matured

in the last several decades as you can see from the recent candlelight vigils.

And lowering the voting age to 18 is a move in the right direction.

But it should be taken from a long-term perspective.

There needs to be more systematic education about voting and democracy to prepare the

students."

According to the National Election Commission, lowering the voting age would increase the

number of people eligible to vote this year by over 600-thousand, a 1-and-a-half percent

increase in the size of the electorate.

Winter celebrations throughout Korea - Duration: 2:52.

Yes, it is winter time... and yes, we may all be tempted to curl up under a blanket

until the spring thaw.

Whether you plan to hibernate or get outside to enjoy the chill - that's up to you - but,

see if you still feel that way after you see what you are missing out on.

Our Culture Spot tonight with Lee Unshin.

It is the time to embrace friends, family, good food,...and some wintry festivals.

The icy cold may irritate some people, but it's definitely welcomed by those who appreciate

the unique activities that can only be enjoyed during this time of the year.

Ice skating and sledding are perhaps two of the clearest signs that it's the season of

snow.

Here at Yeouido park in western Seoul, residents and visitors, both young and old are making

most of winter as they glide between the skyscrapers and slide across the snow.

"I'm having so much fun it makes me forget about the cold."

"I used to skate every winter as a kid.

I love how the rink is set up in the middle of the city."

This wintry scene can become a playground for couples too.

About 2 hours from Seoul, the 'Romantic Chuncheon Festival' is held in Gangwon-do Province every

year.

The famous time traveler booth has handicrafts and arcade video games from the 70's to take

visitors down memory lane.

Outside, a playground features traditional games

And many visitors go for a walk in the garden of hearts, filled with heart-shaped ornaments.

If couples need time away from the music and the crowds, they can also take a walk by the

majestic Bukhan-gang River.

"It's nice to step outside from the city to enjoy nature here.

The cold doesn't bother us.

The view is worth everything."

The days may be shorter in winter, but at night, many Korean streets become even brighter

than ever.

Like here, at the Goyang Light Blooming Festival,... where the holiday atmosphere is embellished

by the rainbow colors of alluring artworks throughout the season.

"It's a winter wonderland of lights.

All these LED decorations seem to ward off the cold for visitors.

It's a pretty romantic setup, but you don't need a partner to enjoy it as long as you've

got a camera and maybe a selfie stick with you."

Like something out of a fairy tale... the magic of the scenery brings out in visitors

a childlike spirit and hope.

"I love the vibrant colors.

It cheers me up and makes me feel warm inside."

The seasonal celebrations are in full swing.

With countless events to go to, it's festivity day and night... and a great reason to get

out and about this winter.

New year brings policy changes, including stricter driver's license test - Duration: 4:44.

The new year comes with new changes... that applies to government policies, as well.

These revisions are mostly made to better reflect the needs of the people... and this

year, there are over 240 of them.

Out with the old, in with the new -- policy changes for 2017: our news feature tonight

with Lee Jiwon.

The list of policy changes for 2017 ranges from the practical to the personal and includes

everything from education to the environment.

On the practical side, is the driver's license exam.

The changes to the test have had a major impact in the couple of weeks since they went into

effect, and are still a hot topic of discussion.

Drivers in Korea have to pass three tests to get a license: a written test, a road test

and a driving course that tests the driver's ability to handle the basic operations of

the vehicle.

"I got my driver's license over two years ago... and although I don't have a car, I

drive quite often.

Let's see if I can get through the more stringent driving course and pass."

Drivers must now be able to stop on a hill without having the car roll backward.

But the hardest part,... where many people fail,... is perpendicular parking.

Drivers must back the car into a three-meter space within two minutes without going out

of bounds.

"Points off for crossing the line."

"Points off for going over the time limit."

"Points too low.

You have failed the test."

Before the test changed,... people only had to drive straight for 50 meters and make an

emergency stop.

The pass rate then was over 90-percent, but now it's down to 30-percent.

"Perpendicular parking was difficult because I didn't know when to stop and turn."

"I took the driving course part of the test before the changes were made,... because I

heard it was going to become more difficult."

The National Police Agency says the new test reflects the actual problems drivers face

in Korea... to better prepare them for the real world.

"Korea has one of the highest road accident rates in the OECD,... and there has been criticism

that it's too easy to get a license in Korea.

So by making the tests harder, we hope to have better prepared drivers out on the roads."

Another change this year is the minimum wage.

The minimum wage has increased to 6-thousand-470 Korean won, or roughly 5 dollars and 50 cents,...

up 7-point-3 percent from the year before.

But that's still below the OECD average, even after inflation and purchasing power are factored

in.

Employers and employees have had different reactions to the wage increase.

"Although the minimum wage went up,... it's not a big enough increase to be felt.

And considering inflation and the cost of rent, I think the minimum wage should go up

to over 8 dollars."

"I agree that the minimum wage should go up,... but it's also true that it could be a burden

to small business owners like myself."

There are also 242 other changes either in effect or soon-to-take effect.

For instance, schools for students with disabilities now have to meet higher facility standards,

and diesel cars registered before 2005 with no fine dust reduction devices are now prohibited

in Seoul.

A great number of changes have also been made in the social welfare sector to tackle the

low birth rate and aging population, including greater financial support for single parents.

But in order for all of these changes to be effective, experts note that civic participation

is key.

"Amid the uncertainties in and outside of the country,... the government laid out a

number of changes to alleviate societal pressures and boost the economy.

People should think about how they can support the government's plans,... so that not only

do they get to enjoy the benefits, they can also contribute to society."

Lee Ji-won, Arirang News.

The Fixies ★ The Vacuum - The Manipulator - The Aquarium - The Drum SONG | Fixies English 2017 - Duration: 23:28.

Can you believe that Fixies are Such itty-bitty creatures?

Even when they're magnified It's hard to see their features.

They're tiny, infinitesimal, So small it makes you doubt.

But if you meet a Fixie, please, Don't let their secret out!

The Vacuum

What's the point of cleaning up toys?

You're just gonna go take them out again later.

You said it!

Tom Thomas, if you're done cleaning up, go and eat your lunch!

OK, be there soon!

- Nolik, you'll wait for me? - Uh-huh!

He calls this cleaning up.

As we say, "Bon appetite!"

Thank you.

You're not going to eat me up, are you?

Fixies, I don't eat them.

Oh, that's my mom. She started vacuuming.

Please! Help!

Help me!

Help! Help!

Please!

It really is weird!

How's it possible a vacuum cleaner can take all that dust in,

and none of it gets back out?

Oh, come on! It's simple.

They taught us about it way back in third grade of Fixie School.

You can think of a vacuum cleaner as nothing more than a fan with a net.

The fan spins backwards, so it sucks in air with dust and dirt.

If you put a net in front of the fan,

the net will catch everything that is in the air and let the air pass through.

Then all you need to do is add a pipe, and you've got yourself a vacuum cleaner.

But instead of a net, vacuum cleaners use special bags to collect the dust and dirt.

It's as simple as that!

Oh, woah, Simka! Nolik, could he get sucked into the vacuum?

Oh no!

Did he stay back there?

Tom Thomas? What's the matter?

Mom, I can finish vacuuming you…

I mean, I mean for you!

Alright. I'll go clean the dishes.

Nolik!

Nolik!

Nolik!

Nolik!

Nolik!

We better go and get help right away!

Masiya! Masiya!

Nolik got sucked up inside the vacuum!

It's impossible.

He can't fit in here.

No, not in this vacuum. Into the big one, the humans'!

It's just terrible!

Nolik! My Nolik! He could suffocate in there!

Come on! Quickly!

Yuck!

This dust is just awful!

And it's awfully bad for you too!

Dust is a tiny enemy. It's so small and unnoticeable!

But if dust gets inside machines and appliances – it's a disaster just waiting to happen!

It can keep gears from turning properly.

Dust can make appliances overheat.

And if dust gets onto electric contacts,

it can create a short circuit that can even cause a fire!

That's why we Fixies have to constantly clean the insides of appliances from dust,

even though a lot of us are allergic to it.

Eh…Eh… Ahchoo!

If only people would just dust a little more often than they do right now!

Ah…Ah… Ahchoo!

At least people could dust more on the outside!

That would make our work so much easier!

And their equipment would break a whole lot less often!

Well? Did you find him?

No!

It's all my fault!

My mom asked me to clean up my toys and I didn't just do it like she asked.

Now it sucked him in because of me!

Nolik!

Nolik!

Ahchoo!

So, what do you say, Tom Thomas?

Eh… Ahchoo!

What? I already apologized.

And I already promised to clean up my toys.

Ahchoo!

And why are you... Ahchoo!... sneezing?

To keep you company.

So you'd feel a little better.

I almost caught one yesterday, I chased him but he fled.

But if I told my dad he'd say, "It's all inside your head!"

You really cannot catch them, Or find their whereabouts.

But if you meet a Fixie, please, Don't let their secret out!

The Manipulator

Well, what do you say, Professor?

It couldn't be any more accurate.

Our manipulator works just perfectly!

Good! So that means that we're free to go.

Great! See you later!

Alright, finally!

Now it's our turn to experiment with that manipulator.

And do you know how to operate this m-m-marnipulator?

Heh! Why do you think we were spying?

A manipulator, is a kind of mechanical arm

that people use for difficult or dangerous work.

To control a manipulator, humans use a remote control or a joystick.

The operator gives the command and the mechanical arm grabs and moves the load.

Some robotic manipulators don't even need to be steered by an operator.

They're controlled by computers and can work without people being there at all.

Even on the Moon!

What is this button for?

How about this one?

Would you like to take a ride?

Right now?

Ah, you're scared!

Scared? Not one bit!

Then off we go!

Yeah, cool!

This is totally awesome!

Well hang on! This is going to get even awesomer!

Professor?

Hmm, strange.

What made this ladder just fall over?

Am I crazy or is someone here?

Calm down. Calm down now.

Poor Elisia.

Yeah.

You're completely overworked.

Woah!

Who's here?

Ahchoo!

Hang in there, Nolik.

I'll get you out of there.

My compact's gone!

Oh, dear, what's going on?!

Stop this nonsense right now or I'll call the police on you!

I don't believe in ghosts. I don't believe in ghosts. I don't believe in…

Where are you pulling me?

I'm going to faint, I'm warning you.

That's all.

Good bye.

Throughout the world, humans use manipulators for all sorts of work!

In factories, manipulators are used to lift and move heavy loads.

They can also hand out the parts needed for assembly,

or even attach these parts themselves.

In hospitals, more precise manipulators are used by doctors to help perform operations.

Manipulators are also used in places where the work is simply too dangerous for people.

For instance, where there are deadly chemicals.

Or places where humans can't get to easily,

like somewhere underground where there isn't enough space to move or deep under the water.

Or in outer space where there's absolutely no air to breath.

So you see, mechanical arms are helpful in all sorts of places

where humans are unable to reach things with their own arms.

Hang on, Nolik!

How can I get that thing open?!

Oh! I got it!

Yes. Who's there?

What's going on?

Ah-ah-ahchoo!

Nolik?

What are you doing in there?

We just... heh-heh... took a little test flight.

Is this yours?

Elisa!

E-li-sa!

Professor Eugenius.

I was attacked by a crazy arm.

The manipulator?

It's your imagination.

Look, it's come back!

Stop! Stop, I'm telling you!

Professor Eugenius, it heard what you just said.

Calm down, it's OK.

It was a little malfunction.

But I took care of it.

You are just astounding!

And don't think that I'm through with you!

With me?

With you? No, with the manipulator.

Let's go, Elisa.

Yeah, let's go, Professor.

Great job, Fire!

And why, Fire?

Can you believe that Fixies are Such itty-bitty creatures?

Even when they're magnified It's hard to see their features.

They're tiny, infinitesimal, So small it makes you doubt.

But if you meet a Fixie, please, Don't let their secret out!

The Aquarium

The coast is clear.

The humans have left.

Come on, let's go!!

Masiya, why are the fish looking so tired?

Cause they're not getting enough air in there.

The water in the aquarium is dirty and it needs air, but the filter isn't working.

The filter?

Yes, that device over there.

This fish need our help and if we don't do something right now they could die!

Right! First I'll fix that light,

while you and Masiya go over there and see what is wrong with the filter.

But I want to go and look at the filter too.

You're too small for this!

Oh! Woh-who-woh!

And you're giant, I mean you're like six feet tall, huh?

That's enough arguing! Nolik, let's go!

Well, let's check it.

Not working.

Nolik, where are you?

I'm up here!

What are you doing up there?

Nothing. Holding on.

We don't have time for that. Get down!

We have to get this switch working.

Masiya, what's the matter with the filter?

Well, probably something is caught inside and it's stopping the motor from turning.

A filter is used to keep the aquarium water clean.

A motor in the filter turns the paddles and pumps water through a fine net or a sponge.

The dirt in the water gets trapped in there,

and the cleaned water is put back into the aquarium.

Many filters not only clean the water but also add air to it,

so there will be more oxygen in the water.

You see, even though fish live their lives in water,

they need oxygen just like all of us.

Tideesh!

Way to go there!

There are lots of ways for people to breathe under water.

As an experiment, try putting an empty glass upside down in water

and you'll see that some of the air stays in there.

That's the idea behind the ancient diving bell.

An empty bell was lowered under the water,

and some of the air remained in there for the diver to breathe.

And about 200 years ago the first diving suits were invented.

The diver got air from a hose that started above the water.

This let the diver spend a long time under the water,

and even walk around on the bottom, but just not too far.

Later on people learned to squeeze a lot of air inside of metal tanks.

And that's when scuba diving started.

Scuba divers breathe the air stored in these tanks,

so they can swim freely,

and even dive deep down below the water.

Our work is done!

The light is on, and the filter is working.

- And the fish look so excited! - As if they're not fish but... monsters!

Thank goodness they're behind glass!

Oh! Papus!!

Just hang on! We'll be right there to save you!

But I don't even have my pack-o-mat!

Look how they're chumping

They must be so hungry.

You're right! They're hungry!

Nolik, come on!

I can't believe those fish, they're so ungrateful!

We went ahead and fixed their filter and all they wanted to do was gobble us up!

And I'm the one who saved you from them!

I was the one watching what was going on.

Oh, gee!

Hold it.

Do you think giving her some food will help?

As long as you're not thinking that food is me!

Fixies go to Fixie schools And study to be masters.

There's so much they need to learn To save us from disasters!

There isn't one appliance That they don't know about,

But if you meet a Fixie, please, Don't let their secret out!

The Drum

Now let's turn it on.

It's buzzing, you hear it?

I would love to,

but the only thing I can hear is Nolik's banging.

Nolik, what are you doing?

I'm rehearsing my solo!

Nolik is the drummer in our rock band. Didn't you know that?

Why don't you go and rehearse somewhere else if you wouldn't mind.

Yeah, alright.

I just can't work like this.

Nolik, stop it, please! Oh, my head is just splitting.

Professor Eugenius!

Will you come to the laboratory? There's something very strange in there.

What?

I'm hearing some kind of awful sounds!

You are?

I think it's a ghost.

Back from the dead!!!

Don't you worry about ghosts, Lisa. I'll check what it is.

Hm. So it's you making the racket!

What?

I'm just rehearsing.

Well, what is it?!

Don't worry! It's just a piece of equipment rattling.

You know what you should do?

You should go and practice back at home, my young friend!

It's not very hard to make a drum.

One way to make it is to take an empty barrel

and replace its bottom with a skin made of leather or plastic.

If the skin is stretched tightly, the sound can get very bright and loud.

Really big drums are usually played with percussion mallets or beaters,

while smaller drums can be played with sticks or with bare hands.

Instruments that make sounds by being shaken, scraped or beaten, are all called percussion instruments.

There are lots of different percussion instruments,

like the small hand drums that are called bongos,

big shakers with handles called maracas,

cymbals made out of metal. Now those really make a lot of noise!

And there's tambourines, ratchets and even spoons!

That's right! People can make music using spoons as a percussion instrument.

Tom Thomas!

Do you think I can practice my drumming here?

Yeah, go ahead! I've just got some homework to do.

I can do that. And better than you can, too.

And what if I play like this, huh?!

Then I'll go like that.

Or like that!

Ever since I had decided That a drummer's what I want to be,

There is nothing that I won't bang on, Cause the world's a drum to me!

So I bang on radiators, With a spoon the pot goes - boom, bam, bum!

Maybe someone will take pity, And they'll buy me my own drum.

Bang it, bang it, bang it boom, bang it boom, bang it boom!

Bang it, bang it, bang it bam, bang it bam, bang it bam!

Bang it, bang it, bang it bum, bang it bum, bang it bum!

Bang it, beat it bum, bum! Bang the drum!

Bang the drum!

Both my father and my mother Wish I'd play a violin instead.

I don't want to, I'm a drummer, But I can't drum that in their heads.

So I bang on radiators, With a spoon the pot goes - boom, bam, bum!

Maybe someday they will get it, And they'll buy me my own drum!

Bang it, bang it, bang it boom, bang it boom, bang it boom!

Bang it, bang it, bang it bam, bang it bam, bang it bam!

Bang it, bang it, bang it bum, bang it bum, bang it bum!

Bang it, bang it bum, bum! Bang the drum!

Tom Thomas, let's take a break!

But I'm not done!

Keep going, Nolik!

This is fun!

Maybe it's fun for you!

Stop!!! That's enough!!!

And now, let's turn it off.

Can you hear that? It stopped buzzing.

It did.

Hey everybody, it's Nolik!

Yo! What's up?

So, our noisy ghost is back.

I thought you'd be practicing at home now.

Tom Thomas is drumming there. I had to run away.

Well, our excursion is over.

And now I would just be so happy to listen to your rock group.

Hurrah!

Bang the drum!

Come on, not so loud!

Did you say something?!

I beg you, not that loud, please!

The Day the Holocaust Began In America - Duration: 9:21.

The Day the Holocaust Began In America.

Ask not how it could happen; ask why it doesnt happen more often. I have heard eyewitness

accounts of NAZI concentration camps just after liberation in 1945.

I have seen haunting photos of bulldozers piling-up mountains of naked human corpses.

In NAZI Germany, this was all legal.

The NAZIs simply passed laws that legalized murder and nobody challenged them because

dissent was impossible.

California now legalizes murder under Senate Bill 277 and too few challenge it because

dissent is nearly impossible. Youll know its a Holocaust once you

realize how powerless you are to challenge it.

Holocaust is not a German phenomenon; its a human phenomenon. Last century, it happened

in the land of Schiller, Goethe and Beethoven, and today, it happens in the land of football,

beer, and gambling.

Humanity has made no progress since 1945. In the name of unbridled capitalism, we Americans

have kept the world at war since 1945, which means theres been no progress in the understanding

of ones fellow man.

And fascism now comes home to roost.

But our American brand of fascism differs from German-style fascism; theirs grew out

of poverty and desperation, while ours, curiously enough, emerges from corporate prosperity.

But in the final analysis, all totalitarian regimes are based on the same thing the

raw power of the state to kill with impunity.

The State of California now asserts the raw power to inject your children with whichever

chemicals, bacteria, and viruses they deem necessary and you have no right to informed

consent, which means (1) no right to be apprised of the risk and (2) no ability to

opt-out.

And despite the obvious fact that all vaccines carry an appreciable degree of risk, the state

refuses to apprise you of those risks precisely because you have no right to opt-out. Thats

why they call it mandatory vaccination.

The doctrine of informed consent pertains only to elective medical procedures; but where

the procedure is mandatory, as with SB 277, informed consent goes out the window.

Mandatory vaccination is much like selective service your child is drafted, against

your will, and forced to join the Army and carry a rifle to fight the War on Measles

and you must accept the risk that your child may get shot down in the defense of

the nation.

And when they begin with mandatory childhood anti-cancer vaccination, dont be surprised

to see Congress issuing gold stars to parents whose children have fallen in the War on Cancer.

SB277 offers no informed consent to children for the same reason that selective

service offers no informed consent to soldiers drafted into the military, i.e.,

in both instances, everybody knows that death or great bodily harm is a distinct possibility.

But when America fights ideological wars, e.g., War on Terrur, War on Measles, etc.,

informed consent is abolished in the name of the greater good whose right to security

and comfort are paramount to an individuals right to life.

Todays doctors dont care whether you consent to mandatory medical procedures any

more than NAZI doctors cared about whether the Jews consented to mandatory medical procedures

because in both instances, forcible means they force it upon the individual against

the individuals will regardless of whether he or she consents.

When they gassed people in the concentration camps, NAZI law required that only medical

doctors could pull the lever releasing the deadly Zyklon-B gas.

NAZI law assigned to doctors the actual task of killing because, under NAZI law, the act

of mass murder in the gas chamber was conveniently deemed to be a medical procedure.

More curious still, in America, we purposely avoid calling vaccination a medical procedure

specifically because, in order to achieve high vaccination rates, we allow any Tom,

Dick or Harry to administer vaccines.

And dont forget, in America, you have no right to sue for vaccination-gone-wrong, so

theres really no need to bother having a trained medical professional administer

the vaccines.

If an unskilled vaccinator pierces the wrong portion of your deltoid muscle, (upper arm),

and paralysis ensues, then oh well! You cannot sue for negligent needle placement

any more than you can sue for ASD or GBS.

SB277 is for us the proverbial handwriting on the wall that too many Jews missed back

in NAZI Germany. And sadly, for the keenly aware among us who see that handwriting

on the wall where are they to go?

To which nation shall they emigrate? The sad truth is, theres nowhere to go because

Obamas vaccine mandate has gone global.

And when they start herding anti-vaxxers into FEMA Camps, there will be no Gen. George S.

Patton and no Third Army to come to our rescue

Remember, it didnt begin with gas chambers in NAZI Germany; it began when people grew

desensitized, intolerant of opposing views, mindlessly obedient to authority, and totally

willing to follow orders instead of their own conscience.

It begins when folks willingly turn a blind eye to injustice so long as their own

paycheck continues uninterrupted.

Fascism lay not around the corner its here. Right now. The American Holocaust has

begun.

No, you wont see any swastikas. We dont need to build Dachaus and Auschwitzes because

the mass media builds concentration camps in the mind which are far more effective

for controlling humans and getting them to march in lockstep.

No, we wont wake-up one morning and suddenly find ourselves in gray, wool uniforms, goose-stepping

off to work; but this is not the point.

The point is: what happens to the individual who dissents? In Nazi Germany, he or she was

physically destroyed, like Sophie Scholl, a 22-year old college student, brutally beheaded

by NAZIs. (Denken Sie daran, die weie Rose.)

Today in America, the process is more subtle; but the end always justify their means.

We all know its true this is no longer the dreamland America in which we were born

or in which we once believed. And to make matters worse, theres a population explosion,

which serves only to lessen our commitment to the sanctity of individual liberties and

human life.

Add to that, a perpetual govt budget crisis, with far less resources for individual rights,

and the feedback loop begins in earnest. Fascism only encourages more fascists.

Nowadays, our lawmakers deceive the public as if it were the natural prerogative of their

office.

Today, we live in a brave, new Orwellian world where the individual exists for the state

and the well-being of the greater good justifies each and every immoral act the state hurls

towards the individual.

Aldous Huxley Brave New World and George Orwell's 1984 are available on Amazon.com

We have reached a time in our country similar to what life must have been like in 1930s

NAZI Germany except we dont realize it because American Fascism wears the smiling

disguise of liberal democracy.

The state makes you believe that you live in the best of all possible worlds so

long as the state remains in total control over every aspect of your life.

The state dispenses life, liberty, and happiness so long as everyone accepts that the state

is paramount to the individual, that the greater good is paramount to human conscience, and

that the state has the raw power to kill with impunity.

Too few young people today remember the Holocaust. Those who do not remember the past are condemned

to repeat it. But those of us who DO remember it are condemned to sit by helplessly and

watch everyone else repeat it.

Dealing With Lack Of Confidence As A Developer - Duration: 5:55.

Hey, what's up?

John Sonmez from simpleprogrammer.com.Today,

I have a question about confidence, dealing with a lack of confidence that I was asked.

This question I'm going to read some pieces of this because it's a little bit long.

Some of you, you just like to tell me your life story.

I understand that, but it's just doesn't work too well on the video, unless we make

a whole like movie.

Here's the kind of the highlights of this.

"Hi, John.

I stumbled on your channel on your YouTube and I wanted to compliment you about the work

you are doing.

Your videos, blogs and your presence alone can motivate one to stop procrastinating."

All right, that's what I like to here.

"I also have a small question that maybe you could help me with.

I'm a freelance programmer since 2007.

Although from time to time I take a regular job where there is less demand in freelance

work.

At the moment though I am at home waiting to take my new job offer, but lately I am

bothered about the fact that before taking another project, I have a lack of confidence

if I'll be able to do it.

Maybe it has to do with the fact that everything is evolving at a really fast pace and maybe

also because I am getting older (42 now) and I am being afraid that at some point I will

not be able to do it.

For example right now, I am being asked by a company that developed website for websites

like Nike, Tommy Hilfiger and KLM so the bar becomes higher.

Also, the demand and pace at companies is more and more.

I feel like this world is getting out of hand, or maybe it's just me.

I would like to hear your thoughts on this.

Thank you."

I guess I did read the whole question.

I guess it wasn't that long.

I was just whining.

So here's the thing.

You should always be—this is a good place to be.

A lot of people are very uncomfortable with being uncomfortable.

They're uncomfortable in being in places where they don't feel 100% confident.

The thing is I did this video, I did this talk called 5 Soft Skills Every Software Developer

Should Know, and it's really—it's not about the soft skills.

What it's really about is how the only way that you grow in life is when you become uncomfortable,

when you put yourself in uncomfortable situations.

Here's the thing that you got to think about here.

You want this.

You want to live your life.

You want to always be pushing the envelope.

It's good that you've got these butterflies in your stomach.

It's good that you're 100% sure.

It's good that you're pushing the envelope and you think that you might fail.

That's not only what causes you to grow, but it also gives you that adrenaline rush.

It gives you that energy to be able to go and hit it hard.

It's really easy to get into this comfort zone where your life is just comfortable.

I did this video, again, I'll point to another one, How My life Changed Over 7 Years.

You can see it.

My life 7 years ago.

A lot of people were shocked by that.

I was surprised how popular the video was.

To me, I mean it was crazy, wonderful what happened, but it wasn't as shocking as some

of you found it.

That's because I found that most people that nothing like that ever happens that—again,

and I attack some people, "attack some people," and some people were offended by this.

I said that I still know a lot of my old co-workers.

No offense to them, but they've been doing the same thing for the last 10 or 15 years.

Their life hasn't changed hardly one bit except that they have more gray hairs, and that's

a sucky place to be.

You don't want to be there.

Okay?

So the only way to avoid that is to constantly put yourself in situations where you can be

uncomfortable, where you're going to be afraid, where you're not sure if you can make it,

where you might fail.

You might fall off a cliff and die.

That's life.

The more that you put yourself in that situation, the more that you'll rise to the challenge,

the more that you'll grow.

You might fail from time to time.

You might fail with a lowercase F. You only fail with a capital F when you give up.

You have a choice whether or not you want to fail or not.

What I say in this situation is great.

That's good.

You should feel this lack of confidence.

You should go ahead and do it anyway because—I'll tell you just about every single job I've

ever taken, I've always been unsure if I could do it.

I've always had this lack of confidence.

I wouldn't call that lack of confidence.

I would say butterflies, nervousness, or unsure of myself, but I did it anyway.

I got the job.

When I got there on the job, it caused me to work really hard.

All of a sudden, within 2 weeks, 3 weeks, I was mastering that job and I was like, "Oh,

this is easy.

I'm comfortable now.

I can do this job."

I think you probably—if you look back at your own history, in your own career experience,

you'll probably find that you have a similar experience.

Most of us do.

Most of us take jobs that we're not prepared for.

Do this.

Stretch it.

Whatever someone will hire you for—I mean if you can get a spectacular failure in your

life, just a spectacular failure, that's one of the best things you can possible experience

in your life.

It's not comfortable at the time, but man, when you shoot so far above where you're shooting

for the moon and you just fail spectacularly, you'll learn a great deal about yourself.

You'll learn a great deal about your environment and you improve.

You drastically improve.

Sometimes every once in a while, when you shoot from the moon, you hit the moon.

If you like this video, click the Subscribe button and we'll shoot for the moon together.

I'll talk to you next time.

Take care.
