I've owned every generation of the civic from the 5th all the way to the 8th

I thought that the 5th and the 6th were

pretty sleek and sporty looking

The 7th looked

bloated and generally it was the least cool looking of all the civics

The 8th gen eventually grew on me

but i didn't like the design language

It had a very short hood and

the angle of the hood and the windscreen was almost the same

which made it look like a speed bump when viewed from the side

The 9th gen looks too similar to the 8th

This right here is the 10th generation civic

it finally has the classic outline of a car again

It has a well defined hood

It doesn't look like a beetle when viewed from the side

It has a more aggressive looking front end

This right here is the type R which is the

top of the line performance oriented version of the civic

it has

it has wider fenders

it has different bumpers

it has a full aero package

a front diffuser

sideskirts

and a rear diffuser

it has wider fenders

it has a hoodscoop

it has a huge wing at the back

it has 20inch wheels with rubberband tires

that is a pretty menacing looking car

it's powered by a 2 liter turbocharged engine

which produces 306 horsepower

it's mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox

it has a limited slip differential at the front

it is front wheel drive of course

it's the first civic with a

It's the first civic with a forced induction engine

as far as i know

the headlights look very striking

we're not allowed to film the Type R's interior

so i'll show you the Civic RS turbo's interior instead

almost everything here is made of plastic

The dashboard of the 10th gen civic is not as streamlined as the 8th gen civic's

This one is more angular rather than curvy

It has a 7 inch LCD

This particular car has an automatic trasnmission

with paddle shifters mounted on the steering column

This trim right here is not aluminum

it is plastic

This is also plastic

although it looks like leather with stitching on it

For a front wheel drive front engined car

This car has a pretty tall transmission tunnel

it extends from the dashboard all the way to the center armrest

It does have practical benefits

it has plenty of storage space

and it has two cupholders in it

if you wanna get cozy with your passenger though

it might get in the way

CHAPTER VI

JOE HAS HOPES

"Yes, here's the very thing, I guess!" said Joe, after rummaging about in his leather

tool case.

He produced a short but heavy bolt with a nut.

"It isn't exactly the same thing," remarked Darrell, after looking at it carefully, "but

it will do, if it's long enough.

Would you mind holding Prince's head while I try it?

He might start up, just as I got the shaft in place, and hurt my fingers, if he didn't

make me drop the bolt.

Then we'd have a sweet time hunting for it in the dark."

Joe went to the animal's head and patted the cold, velvety nose while the other lad

lifted up the dropped shaft and fitted it in place.

He was fumbling about in the flickering light of the bicycle lantern which he had temporarily

fastened to the dashboard.

"Will it do?" asked Joe.

"Yes, it's just the cheese.

Lucky I met you, or, rather that you met me, or I don't know what I[51] would have done.

The bolt is just long enough.

Now if I can get the nut on——"

"There's a wrench in my tool bag," interrupted Joe.

"Shall I get it for you?"

"No, thanks, you stay by Prince.

I can find it.

You haven't been in town long, have you?" asked Darrell, as he was working away over

the nut, which was a little tight.

"No, about a week.

I was at the Resolute ball game though."

"You were?

It was a shame it broke up the way it did, but I don't think it was our fault, though

Sam Morton is pretty quick tempered."

Joe had good reason to know that.

"No," he answered from the darkness near the horse's head, "it was the fault of

the Resolutes all right.

They ought to have been satisfied after pulling the game out of the fire the way they did."

"I should say so!

They never ought to have won it, and they wouldn't have, only Sam sort of—well they

got his 'goat' I guess."

"Yes," assented Joe, while Darrell went on fumbling with the wrench and nut.

"Do you play at all?"

came the manager's voice from the vicinity of the flickering light.

"Oh, yes," and Joe's tone was eager while his heart was strangely beating.

It was a chance he[52] had never dared hope for, to have the manager of the Silver Stars

ask him that.

"Where?" came the next inquiry.

"In Bentville, where I used to live."

"Oh.

Have a good team?"

"Pretty fair."

"Where'd you play?"

"I used to pitch."

There was a pause and then, emboldened by what had happened, Joe went on.

"I don't suppose there's a vacancy in your nine, is there?" and he laughed half

whimsically.

"No, hardly, that is, not in the box," said Darrell slowly.

"Sam has his faults, but he's the best pitcher we've had in a long time and I guess

we'll keep him.

There, that's fixed," he went on, tapping the bolt to see that it was firmly in place.

"Now I can go on, I guess.

I'm a thousand times obliged to you.

I don't know what I'd have done only for you.

After this I'm going to carry a light, and some spare bolts."

He handed Joe back the wrench and took the lamp off the dashboard.

"I'll give you a bolt in place of this the next time I see you," the manager went

on, as he held the lamp out to our hero.

"Oh, it isn't necessary.

I don't need it for my[53] wheel.

It was just one of some odds and ends that I carry with me."

Darrell stood looking at Joe, whose face was illuminated brightly by the full focus of

the lamp.

The manager seemed struck by something.

"I say!" he exclaimed, "you look as if you were built to play ball.

Were you at it long?"

"Oh, a couple of years."

"Pitch all that time?"

"Oh, no, only just the last few months of the season.

Our regular pitcher left and I filled in."

"I see.

Hum, well, as I said we haven't any vacancy in the box, but by Jove! come to think of

it I might give you a chance!"

Joe's heart leaped wildly and he could hardly answer.

"Can you, really?" he asked.

"Yes, but not as a regular, of course—at least that is not right off the bat.

But if you'd like to try for place at centre field I believe I can manage it."

Joe's heart was a little despondent.

Centre field was not a very brilliant place in which to shine with the Stars, but it was

a start and he realized that.

"I'd be glad of the chance," he managed to say.

"All right, I'll keep you in mind.

You see our[54] regular centre fielder, Jed McGraw, is going to leave.

His folks are moving out west and we'll have to have some one in his place.

I don't know when he's going, but it's this week or next.

I'd like to do something for you, to sort of pay you for what you did for me to-night,

and——"

"Oh, I don't want anything for this!"

exclaimed Joe.

"I know you don't, but it just happened so.

I might not have known you except for this accident, and as I said we will need some

one to fill in at centre field.

Len Oswald is the regular substitute, but he doesn't practice much, and he's got

a job over at Fordham so he can't always be sure of getting off Saturday afternoons,

which is when we mostly play.

So I'll put you down as sub now and perhaps as regular—it depends on Len."

"Thanks!"

Joe managed to say and he found himself hoping that Len would have to work every Saturday

during the season.

"We need some one with experience," went on Darrell, "and I'm glad I could give

you the chance.

Tom Davis was saying you got mixed up in the row the other day."

"Yes.

I seem to be getting the habit," replied Joe with a laugh.

"I had one with Sam Morton on this road a little while ago."

"You don't say so!

How did it happen?"

Joe gave all the details.

"Hum!

Well, Sam sure has a quick temper," went on the young manager.

"But he's all right soon after it," he added in extenuation.

"He'll be friendly with you in a few days and forget all about it.

I wouldn't hold a grudge against him, if I were you."

"Oh, I shan't.

It was both our faults."

"Well, I'll be getting on," remarked Darrell, after a pause.

"Come and see me sometime.

I'll see you at school to-morrow, and if there's anything doing I'll let you know."

The two boys' hands met in a friendly clasp and then the manager, getting into his carriage,

drove off.

A little later, his heart filled with hope, Joe, having put back his lantern and tool

bag pedaled toward home.

"This was a lucky day for me, even if it did look bad after that crash with Sam Morton,"

he said to himself.

"I'm going to play ball, after all!"

There was rather a grave look on Mr. Matson's face when Joe handed him the reply from Mr.

Holdney, and told of his interview.

"So he can't help me—Oh, well, never mind," and Mr. Matson turned aside and went

into the[56] room where he kept a desk.

Mrs. Matson followed, closing the door after her, and for some time the voices of the two

could be heard in low but earnest conversation.

"What's the matter; nothing wrong I hope?" asked Clara.

"Oh, I guess not," answered Joe, though he was vaguely uneasy himself.

Then came the thought of his talk with the baseball manager and his heart was light again.

Supper was rather a quiet affair that night, and Mr. Matson spoke but little, quite in

contrast to his usual cheerful flow of conversation.

Mrs. Matson, too, seemed preoccupied.

"I think I'm going to get on the Stars!" exclaimed Joe, when he got a chance to tell

of his experiences that day.

"That's good," said Mr. Matson heartily.

"There's no game like baseball."

"But it doesn't fit a boy for anything," complained Mrs. Matson.

"It doesn't help in any of the professions."

"It's a profession in itself!" declared Joe stoutly.

"I hope you don't intend to adopt it," spoke his sister.

"Oh, I don't know.

I might do worse.

Look[57] at some of those big New York players getting thousands of dollars a year."

"But look how long it takes them to get to that place," objected Clara, who liked

to argue.

"Oh, well, I'm young yet," laughed Joe.

In his room that night, while preparing for bed Joe got to thinking of the possibility

mentioned by Darrell Blackney.

"I'm going to play my head off in centre field," said Joe, "and I'm going to

practice batting, too.

Stick work counts.

I'm going to practice pitching, also.

Who knows, maybe I'll get a chance in the box if Sam ever slumps.

"Wow!

If I ever do!" and standing before an imaginary batter Joe flung out his arm as if delivering

a swift curve.

With a crash his fist hit a picture on the wall and brought it clattering down to the

floor.

"What's that?"

called Clara sharply from the next room.

"Oh, I was just practicing pitching," answered Joe sheepishly, as he picked up the

picture, the glass of which had fortunately not broken.

"Well, you'd better practice going to sleep," responded his sister with a laugh.

Joe smiled.

He had great hopes for the future.

Hello! I just came back from South Africa

I found many nice people and nice homes

I'm preparing with the greatest affection to show here very soon.

First of all I want to talk about essence

that makes all the difference when you are going to build your way of living

Of course your house is also included.

I want to show you one of the icons and one of the most beloved music legends in South Africa

Sipho Mabuse - who welcomed me to his house in Soweto.

When we talk about South Africa, we have to remember that

until quite recently, about 20 years ago, they had the Apartheid regime,

which was a very radical racial segregation.

So when I arrived in Johannesburg looking to photograph a house,

some character, the only thing I did not want was a house just like we have here in Brazil,

in Europe or those super nice houses of magazines.

I just wanted a house of this black people that had never been shown.

And that's how I came to Soweto, one of the largest, most powerful and iconic township in South Africa.

The one who took me there was Zandi, who was our guide, and also a Soweto's dweller

She introduced me to the Sipho Mabuse,

which is actually one of the greatest legends of South African music

and also one of the most beloved and inspiring personalities of the arts in that country.

The Sipho Mabuse was very close to Nelson Mandela.

He was married to Mandela's cousin's daughter.

This made the contact very consistent.

When Mandela was released from prison

he commented to Sipho that by listening to many of his songs

and other artists of his generation, he felt hope that one day he would be released

and thus could make a difference in the world.

And indeed Mandela has changed the way the world sees racial differences.

As Sipho himself commented, of course all honor and glory are Mandela's,

for no one has ever had the courage to face the system,

but imagine the pleasure of living with Mandela and having the same thought of racial equality

and achievement of All rights regardless of the color of your skin?

So it is this wonderful essence of Sipho that is represented in his lifestyle.

Not only for him, but also as his example encourages others to live better.

Through his house you can see how he has traveled the world

It was very interesting when he showed me all these African references,

the various countries he visited and the prizes he has already won

In fact he is very prized and respected. That's why we see these prizes in the decoration of the house.

Then through the house you can see objects he brought from Mozambique, Kenya,

when he would play the music shows, enriching his experiences and thus inspiring other people

When I say inspire other people it is because it has a very interesting story.

When he was young, he left school and all his musical learning was self-taught.

Then, much older, he returned to study.

This is extremely encouraging to other people.

We must remember that at that time blacks had few chances and few rights in South African society.

Then he goes back to school and says to himself that he would win, study and graduate.

Imagine how many people can follow his example?

Many people who watch me here now may be motivated to believe in their dreams again.

The example of Sipho's life will still motivate many and many people.

Another even more interesting decision is when he decides to continue his studies

and went to university and studied Anthropology.

I believe examples that make life's history much more interesting.

I can not visit South Africa and come back here

just talking about a beautiful cushion, a modern sofa or a beautiful window.

Here I am speaking with your inner self, telling you the lessons I have had

that make a lot of difference in our lives and the way we choose to live.

When you decorate your home or make changes in your life, in your work,

everything that comes from within your soul must to be stronger and more valued than simple consumption.

These strong things I say are these inner truths like that of Sipho and Mandela

in pursuing racial equality. This is a good reflection.

A special moment was when he called me to see his studio.

Then he plays music. A world icon playing for us.

And even after this gift of seeing him playing, he surprises me by inviting me to go up to his room,

where he has only one bed and a piano and then I was blessed to witness this scene:

Can you imagine my happiness to be able to witness these moments?

Can you believe that many people told me that I would never be able

to photograph black people's homes in South Africa?

My reaction was always one of wonder. I said, are you crazy?

Of course, I always believed that I could achieve not only that,

but I would connect with the best essence of these people when entering their houses,

just as I entered the house of the Sipho, who is a person who represents very much this discourse of equality

which I defend the same thought.

So when I say that I talk about houses and that I also talk about the soul of the decoration,

I mean that the house is not the walls, but everything that makes you who you are.

So when I meet face to face with a person with the speech like that of the Sipho

I always ask myself the same thing and I want you to ask yourself:

And I? What is my essence?

What am I putting out? What difference am I making?

What can we do to make our lives good and at the same time to inspire good in other people?

Talking about these subjects with you is a pleasure,

especially when I can show a person like Sipho Mabuse,

always guided by the thoughts of Nelson Mandela that enchanted South Africa and the entire world.

Here's what Mandela said to him:

sobre o que as músicas fizeram por eles

Nós os mantivemos vivos

Nós os ajudamos a sobreviver

Nós demos a eles esperança como músicos

What these men have defended is such a strong truth

that I can come here in my room,

where I look at you here in Brazil and we talk about

this man's thinking about equality, rights, respect for diversity, respect for what is different from us.

This is a beautiful attitude that we must always value.

Take away the masks, remove the barriers, and Sipho speaks this through music, speech, and the very example of life,

So when I got to Soweto, in the middle of the neighborhood,

to find this icon and now to be able to tell you this story,

it is my greatest pleasure. To awaken that truest inner essence,

believe me, it is with her that you will build your home, your work, your life, your relationships, everything.

I could not have gone to South Africa and come back only talking about decoration.

We are here talking about many other things that are beautiful and that complete our lifestyle.

I sincerely hope that you have understood this video,

liked what I am showing you and so we can continue in tune,

because to speak of such wonderful people is like talking about ourselves,

letting go of what is here inside the soul

Racing Home Before the Birth of My Child! - Duration: 11:21.

We called the hospital and I'm allowed to see baby Duncan be born.

Good morning, everyone.

It is a beautiful day here in Vancouver.

Here, I'll show you on my little balcony that I have.

Don't worry, I'm not going to jump in to a time lapse... yet.

Not that I'm -- it's gonna stop me but, just curious.

For those of you who are new to my channel and don't know what I'm doing in Vancouver,

I am producing a show called Haters Back Off.

Which I co-created with my sister, Colleen who plays Miranda Sings on youtube.

As well as on the show, Hater's Back Off.

Today we are shooting on location and I decided that rain or shine today I am going to go

for a walk.

I'm going to walk from my hotel to Colleen's place which is pretty far.

But when we were editing I used to go for these walks from the editing bay back to my

apartment here and I loved it.

So I'm looking forward to doing that today.

Good morning, everyone!

We've got Gwen driving.

Bailey in the back.

We are having a girls' trip to the doctor's office.

And Bailey just found out some really cool news.

I'm gonna let her share with you.

We called the hospital and I'm allowed to see baby Duncan be born.

I've been really wanting to do that for a long time.

I watched YouTube videos to see how I felt about it and I'm really excited that I'm going

to see baby Duncan be born.

Heehee!

Unless I'm asleep.

Well, not really, but somebody will have to wake me up.

But of course I'd be ready for that little moment.

I'm getting another non-stress test.

And I'm managing it well at this point.

I was feeling a little bit yucky at first but now I'm feeling a lot better.

Here's what's going on down here.

And here's the thump thump of his heart.

Which -- I'm a doctor and I can check heart rates.

I can tell you it's looking pretty good.

Healthy baby.

so far.

That's my doctor assessment so far but I guess I can update you with what the actual doctor

says in a little bit.

We've got these guys in the corner here.

You guys want to say hi.

Hi.

You having fun?

Yeah.

That heart is beating!

He's throwing a party in there I think.

Overall the doctor visit went well.

I passed my non-stress test.

I will be getting another one next week.

But it's only once a week now instead of twice a week which means things are looking better.

Bailey got full approval from the hospital and the doctor now.

To attend the birth.

I'm excited for her.

We'll see if that happens.

I don't know, I've been giving her pep talks both ways.

Like I've been like...

If you have to leave, you need to do it without arguing and just leave.

Even if you want to be with the baby.

And I've been like... if mommy gets really grouchy, don't take it personally.

Hahaha!

So we're kind of -- I'm trying to prep her for those sort of things.

Because I didn't ever think I'd have like a 9-year-old in a delivery room with me but

this kid i think -- it's like the most perfect thing for her.

So we'll see how that goes.

it's kind of wild.

It's a wild decision.

I'm excited about it.

If you ever had a possitive child experience in the delivery room tell me about it.

tell me about what worked well.

If you've got like a horror story, i don't know.

I don't really need to hear that I don't think.

Maybe I do.

If you can tell it with grace.

Now we're going to go and try to pick up Christopher's laptop because he dropped it off a while ago

and I... it might be fixed.

I don't know.

Yay!

Gwen's just driving us into things.

So he's going to be so happy when he gets home that he'll have his computer back.

Hey, everyone.

I am back at my hotel.

I did not vlog at all today because it was crazy busy.

it was a lot of fun.

but we were behind schedule at the very beginning of the day and then I though, okay I'll pick

up the vlog camera at lunch time.

And we're also at like a crazy location where I couldn't show you the location otherwise

it would give away specific plot points.

So I didn't do that.

And I thought at lunch I'd sneak away and vlog.

But then at lunch they had us do a big meeting for the next two episodes with the new director

and talk about all that stuff.

I didn't get a break today at all.

But it was great.

It was a lot of fun and there's some insanely funny parts in this show this season that

I was in tears laughing.

Like so, so funny.

Steve Little is hilarious.

And Colleen is hilarious.

Everybody is.

It is great.

So I'm excited for you guys to see it and um, yeah.

Now I'm going to do some more work and then go to bed.

Good morning, everyone.

today I am super excited because I get to go home today.

I love working on this show.

I love doing all the producer stuff.

I am going to miss it.

But I am super excited about coming home.

I know that I am going to stay home until the baby comes.

And I'm super excited about that.

And I'm excited about giving my kids hugs and kisses.

And giving my wife hugs and kisses.

Today is going to be awesome I get to be in beautiful vancouver, we have kind of a later

call today so I get to kind of walk around the city, maybe get a crepe.

And then I get to do a little bit of producing, Then I go to the airport and fly in an airplane.

I like flying in airplanes so that's awesome.

And then I get to see my family.

It's like the best day ever.

I got a crepe.

it was delicious.

now i need to find Wonder Bars which is a candy bar that they don't sell in the United

States that Jessica loves.

So I want to get a bunch of those and bring them home for her to have a treat in the hospital

when she has a baby.

I kept going to stores that were like healthy food stores and I found a little shop that

sold candy and I got what I needed.

I'm very proud of myself.

I know I said I'd cool it with the time lapses, but -- I am 37 weeks pregnant and that means

that I am full term.

This baby could come any day now and be like a full baby.

I'm celebrating at my favorite restaurant.

It's called C'est Cheese in Santa Barbara.

If you ever visit Santa Barbara or if you live in Santa Barbara or you're anywhere near

Santa Barbara, go to C'est Cheese.

I think they close at like four so don't plan it for dinner.

Breakfast, lunch-y thing.

This is my favorite.

I'll show you my breakfast.

Nice fruit.

This is a baked egg.

A hearty toast.

And this my look simple, but that is not simple.

That is called a Kueen lamonde and it's spelled with like a K instead of a Q so you're going

to kinda have trouble searching for that.

It's the actual best food in the world.

It's like a croissant that's covered in like caramelization.

it's so so so so good.

I'm giving myself a major treat today and celebrating with my friend Katie.

Here's Katie.

Aw, look at how nice Katie is.

Look at my fancy cappuccino.

She's got a fancy cappuccino with love on it and a flower.

Also a Kueen Lamonde.

Because that's what we do.

Katie is Kathryn's mom and several of Jacob's friends' mom but Kathryn you may remember.

She's Parker's little best buddy.

And it's very confusing to people because she has red hair and her children all have

blonde hair.

So everybody thinks my friend Krystal is Kathryn's mom, but Katie is.

She's my baby.

I might also be delivering your baby today.

If she goes into labor.

We're far from home right now so Katie is ready to deliver this baby.

That's what I look for in friends.

Like friends who are up for just delivering a baby.

And she brought her camera.

So she can take pictures if she needs to.

One hand: camera.

One hand: catch a baby.

Yes!

Katie and I are here because the kids are in a homeschool science class right now.

So we actually have some mom time.

I'm really excited about it.

Yay.

And this is my water.

I put a lot of lemon in it.

That's how I like it.

This is my baby.

37 weeks!

We are shooting at the stage today.

Well, I am only for like an hour 'cause I'm flying home.

2018 10g civic Type R and RS turbo first impressions - Duration: 3:59.

I've owned every generation of the civic from the 5th all the way to the 8th

I thought that the 5th and the 6th were

pretty sleek and sporty looking

The 7th looked

bloated and generally it was the least cool looking of all the civics

The 8th gen eventually grew on me

but i didn't like the design language

It had a very short hood and

the angle of the hood and the windscreen was almost the same

which made it look like a speed bump when viewed from the side

The 9th gen looks too similar to the 8th

This right here is the 10th generation civic

it finally has the classic outline of a car again

It has a well defined hood

It doesn't look like a beetle when viewed from the side

It has a more aggressive looking front end

This right here is the type R which is the

top of the line performance oriented version of the civic

it has

it has wider fenders

it has different bumpers

it has a full aero package

a front diffuser

sideskirts

and a rear diffuser

it has wider fenders

it has a hoodscoop

it has a huge wing at the back

it has 20inch wheels with rubberband tires

that is a pretty menacing looking car

it's powered by a 2 liter turbocharged engine

which produces 306 horsepower

it's mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox

it has a limited slip differential at the front

it is front wheel drive of course

it's the first civic with a

It's the first civic with a forced induction engine

as far as i know

the headlights look very striking

we're not allowed to film the Type R's interior

so i'll show you the Civic RS turbo's interior instead

almost everything here is made of plastic

The dashboard of the 10th gen civic is not as streamlined as the 8th gen civic's

This one is more angular rather than curvy

It has a 7 inch LCD

This particular car has an automatic trasnmission

with paddle shifters mounted on the steering column

This trim right here is not aluminum

it is plastic

This is also plastic

although it looks like leather with stitching on it

For a front wheel drive front engined car

This car has a pretty tall transmission tunnel

it extends from the dashboard all the way to the center armrest

It does have practical benefits

it has plenty of storage space

and it has two cupholders in it

if you wanna get cozy with your passenger though

it might get in the way

JOE HAS HOPES

"Yes, here's the very thing, I guess!" said Joe, after rummaging about in his leather

tool case.

He produced a short but heavy bolt with a nut.

"It isn't exactly the same thing," remarked Darrell, after looking at it carefully, "but

it will do, if it's long enough.

Would you mind holding Prince's head while I try it?

He might start up, just as I got the shaft in place, and hurt my fingers, if he didn't

make me drop the bolt.

Then we'd have a sweet time hunting for it in the dark."

Joe went to the animal's head and patted the cold, velvety nose while the other lad

lifted up the dropped shaft and fitted it in place.

He was fumbling about in the flickering light of the bicycle lantern which he had temporarily

fastened to the dashboard.

"Will it do?" asked Joe.

"Yes, it's just the cheese.

Lucky I met you, or, rather that you met me, or I don't know what I[51] would have done.

The bolt is just long enough.

Now if I can get the nut on——"

"There's a wrench in my tool bag," interrupted Joe.

"Shall I get it for you?"

"No, thanks, you stay by Prince.

I can find it.

You haven't been in town long, have you?" asked Darrell, as he was working away over

the nut, which was a little tight.

"No, about a week.

I was at the Resolute ball game though."

"You were?

It was a shame it broke up the way it did, but I don't think it was our fault, though

Sam Morton is pretty quick tempered."

Joe had good reason to know that.

"No," he answered from the darkness near the horse's head, "it was the fault of

the Resolutes all right.

They ought to have been satisfied after pulling the game out of the fire the way they did."

"I should say so!

They never ought to have won it, and they wouldn't have, only Sam sort of—well they

got his 'goat' I guess."

"Yes," assented Joe, while Darrell went on fumbling with the wrench and nut.

"Do you play at all?"

came the manager's voice from the vicinity of the flickering light.

"Oh, yes," and Joe's tone was eager while his heart was strangely beating.

It was a chance he[52] had never dared hope for, to have the manager of the Silver Stars

ask him that.

"Where?" came the next inquiry.

"In Bentville, where I used to live."

"Oh.

Have a good team?"

"Pretty fair."

"Where'd you play?"

"I used to pitch."

There was a pause and then, emboldened by what had happened, Joe went on.

"I don't suppose there's a vacancy in your nine, is there?" and he laughed half

whimsically.

"No, hardly, that is, not in the box," said Darrell slowly.

"Sam has his faults, but he's the best pitcher we've had in a long time and I guess

we'll keep him.

There, that's fixed," he went on, tapping the bolt to see that it was firmly in place.

"Now I can go on, I guess.

I'm a thousand times obliged to you.

I don't know what I'd have done only for you.

After this I'm going to carry a light, and some spare bolts."

He handed Joe back the wrench and took the lamp off the dashboard.

"I'll give you a bolt in place of this the next time I see you," the manager went

on, as he held the lamp out to our hero.

"Oh, it isn't necessary.

I don't need it for my[53] wheel.

It was just one of some odds and ends that I carry with me."

Darrell stood looking at Joe, whose face was illuminated brightly by the full focus of

the lamp.

The manager seemed struck by something.

"I say!" he exclaimed, "you look as if you were built to play ball.

Were you at it long?"

"Oh, a couple of years."

"Pitch all that time?"

"Oh, no, only just the last few months of the season.

Our regular pitcher left and I filled in."

"I see.

Hum, well, as I said we haven't any vacancy in the box, but by Jove! come to think of

it I might give you a chance!"

Joe's heart leaped wildly and he could hardly answer.

"Can you, really?" he asked.

"Yes, but not as a regular, of course—at least that is not right off the bat.

But if you'd like to try for place at centre field I believe I can manage it."

Joe's heart was a little despondent.

Centre field was not a very brilliant place in which to shine with the Stars, but it was

a start and he realized that.

"I'd be glad of the chance," he managed to say.

"All right, I'll keep you in mind.

You see our[54] regular centre fielder, Jed McGraw, is going to leave.

His folks are moving out west and we'll have to have some one in his place.

I don't know when he's going, but it's this week or next.

I'd like to do something for you, to sort of pay you for what you did for me to-night,

and——"

"Oh, I don't want anything for this!"

exclaimed Joe.

"I know you don't, but it just happened so.

I might not have known you except for this accident, and as I said we will need some

one to fill in at centre field.

Len Oswald is the regular substitute, but he doesn't practice much, and he's got

a job over at Fordham so he can't always be sure of getting off Saturday afternoons,

which is when we mostly play.

So I'll put you down as sub now and perhaps as regular—it depends on Len."

"Thanks!"

Joe managed to say and he found himself hoping that Len would have to work every Saturday

during the season.

"We need some one with experience," went on Darrell, "and I'm glad I could give

you the chance.

Tom Davis was saying you got mixed up in the row the other day."

"Yes.

I seem to be getting the habit," replied Joe with a laugh.

"I had one with Sam Morton on this road a little while ago."

"You don't say so!

How did it happen?"

Joe gave all the details.

"Hum!

Well, Sam sure has a quick temper," went on the young manager.

"But he's all right soon after it," he added in extenuation.

"He'll be friendly with you in a few days and forget all about it.

I wouldn't hold a grudge against him, if I were you."

"Oh, I shan't.

It was both our faults."

"Well, I'll be getting on," remarked Darrell, after a pause.

"Come and see me sometime.

I'll see you at school to-morrow, and if there's anything doing I'll let you know."

The two boys' hands met in a friendly clasp and then the manager, getting into his carriage,

drove off.

A little later, his heart filled with hope, Joe, having put back his lantern and tool

bag pedaled toward home.

"This was a lucky day for me, even if it did look bad after that crash with Sam Morton,"

he said to himself.

"I'm going to play ball, after all!"

There was rather a grave look on Mr. Matson's face when Joe handed him the reply from Mr.

Holdney, and told of his interview.

"So he can't help me—Oh, well, never mind," and Mr. Matson turned aside and went

into the[56] room where he kept a desk.

Mrs. Matson followed, closing the door after her, and for some time the voices of the two

could be heard in low but earnest conversation.

"What's the matter; nothing wrong I hope?" asked Clara.

"Oh, I guess not," answered Joe, though he was vaguely uneasy himself.

Then came the thought of his talk with the baseball manager and his heart was light again.

Supper was rather a quiet affair that night, and Mr. Matson spoke but little, quite in

contrast to his usual cheerful flow of conversation.

Mrs. Matson, too, seemed preoccupied.

"I think I'm going to get on the Stars!" exclaimed Joe, when he got a chance to tell

of his experiences that day.

"That's good," said Mr. Matson heartily.

"There's no game like baseball."

"But it doesn't fit a boy for anything," complained Mrs. Matson.

"It doesn't help in any of the professions."

"It's a profession in itself!" declared Joe stoutly.

"I hope you don't intend to adopt it," spoke his sister.

"Oh, I don't know.

I might do worse.

Look[57] at some of those big New York players getting thousands of dollars a year."

"But look how long it takes them to get to that place," objected Clara, who liked

to argue.

"Oh, well, I'm young yet," laughed Joe.

In his room that night, while preparing for bed Joe got to thinking of the possibility

mentioned by Darrell Blackney.

"I'm going to play my head off in centre field," said Joe, "and I'm going to

practice batting, too.

Stick work counts.

I'm going to practice pitching, also.

Who knows, maybe I'll get a chance in the box if Sam ever slumps.

"Wow!

If I ever do!" and standing before an imaginary batter Joe flung out his arm as if delivering

a swift curve.

With a crash his fist hit a picture on the wall and brought it clattering down to the

floor.

"What's that?"

called Clara sharply from the next room.

"Oh, I was just practicing pitching," answered Joe sheepishly, as he picked up the

picture, the glass of which had fortunately not broken.

"Well, you'd better practice going to sleep," responded his sister with a laugh.

Joe smiled.

He had great hopes for the future.

Regardless of who it helps or hurts, the facts need to be examined.

President Trump is EXACTLY what the patriots of this country needed.

We were tired of the games, tired of the hidden emails, tired of the scandals, and most of

all tired of being ignored.

Trump has sparked a fire in this country, unlike anything we have seen in our lifetime.

We sat through 8 years of being told how race is an issue, how being a victim pays off,

and how we need to help everyone but ourselves.

Donald Trump s views are a stark contrast to what we have been through.

He understands that race is not an issue.

It is all part of a victim complex that the left has implanted in the minds of anyone

gullible enough to believe it.

He understands that we do not need to take care of other countries before we take care

of ourselves.

We have veterans starving in the streets and he wants to arm Islamic extremists.

Thanks to Donald Trump and the Patriots of this country we can rest easy knowing that

Hillary Clinton will NEVER control OUR country!
