4 tips how you can learn languages easier, faster and more efficient. Tips
I work with myself.
My name is Thorsten Wittmann and I welcome you to today's edition of Fascination Freedom today
from a cafe in Paris. Due to the occasion this episode is related to languages because I started to learn
French a few weeks ago and this is my 5th language
apart from German, English, Spanish, Portuguese and now French.
That's why I have gained some experience, also how you can proceed quickly
apart from normal courses, audio book courses etc. So you get a feeling of success.
Thus, today I want to share 4 concrete strategies with you because languages are great.
Firstly, they are a lot of fun, also for cultural exchanges, but they are also a competititve advantage.
It makes you more interesting.
It makes us more valuable also when it comes to earning more money, if you look for an employer
or if you want to grow your business internationally.
English is an important language, but other general important languages
include Spanish and French.
So, let's have a look at today's tips.
First: Read books in the respective language.
Start early with it.
Do it on the side, you can always read a couple of minutes in the evening.
I am currently reading a book in French and I read 5-10 pages every evening
it's "Réfléchissez et devenez riche", so the book of Napoleon Hill "Think and grow rich",
a classic book.
I have read it several times already but for me it is nice because it offers
a lot of information in a compact form because you read a book in different situation differently
every time and you learn new aspects every time and can
simultaneously train languages.
If you work in the health sector for example, you can easily read
health-related books in the respective language in English, Spanish, French or
whatever language you are learning, you train yourself and you have fun and learn
the right vocabulary for your sector and train several things all
at once.
I like training several things at once.
You can take a book, go to a treadmill and do sports and
run there and put the book there and read, meaning
you have your reading, you have your treadmill and simultaneously you learn
a new language.
A very easy opportunity to do several things at the same time.
Then the tip number 2: Watch movies with subtitles and something I like to use
is Netflix because they show movies with subtitles.
You can watch French movies, Spanish or English as most movies are in English anyway
and then you can set the subtitles and read during the movie, this is
very good.
It is also a good excuse that you watch a couple of movies
too much.
Then tip number 3: Talk as much as you can.
And not anywhere, let's say at regulars' tables or if you are on a vacation
in the stores and restaurants, this is obvious, but you should also talk
with yourself and that's where you can combine with tip number 1 and 2, when watching
movies.
I read subtitles, I read more or less with a loud voice.
When I read books I read them to myself and what happens
then?
We spoke the words out loud and they become part of our subconsciousness.
We "save" the language completely different and that way we learn more efficiently when
we are already reading, then you should just read it
out loud.
When I am here in the Parisian Metro, I look at every word, so when I am
in the Metro, I have a look at every word and look them up
because what is written in the metro is something which is used in daily life.
And tip number 4: our doctrines.
Many people avoid speaking with others because of doctrines,
negative doctrines like "I am not good at that language", I don't speak it
perfectly", which is logical as you are learning a new language. That is why it is very important
that you train your doctrines and my tip is to tell yourself
"I speak Spanish with ease."
This is an opportunity and "I learn Spanish easily." Or in English
or French.
Use positive suggestions with languages that you are becoming
better and better.
Look for suitable suggestions for your situation and tell them yourself for the respective
language to make it clear to yourself. Many people think that they are bad at a langauge
but this is not true, it is just a process. It takes time
to learn a language.
But if you use all the different levels, all the different tips I gave you, if you speak, if
you read, if you watch in the language, you learn the information completely different and
more efficiently and you can learn languages more easily. With this method, I learned
Portuguese within 6 weeks, well, that's very close to Spanish and
you learn it quite quickly and thus you learned a new language.
So I wish you a lot of success and as I said, it is not only interesting
for cultural exchanges and vacations but it is also a competitive advantage
and maybe we can apply to it in 5 or 10 years
very well.
So have fun because it is important to have fun while learning languages,
that is why the doctrines are important and that we learn with pleasure
and to look forward to the day we can speak it fluently.
