hey so Nirali suggested a video topic for me -
talking about the best parts of my jobs
and I could use a little optimism right now
so let's get into it:

Right now I have two jobs. I usually have at least two
jobs at any given time, but let's just
talk about all of my jobs.
The timeline is fuzzy for most of these,
but i have worked at all of these
places. My first job was being a
dishwasher at a convent. I got free iced tea
and leftover desserts along with
interaction with kind old woman who were
living and modeling what a community
looks like. For a while I was the social media
manager for my schools IT department.
I was really good at that job and really
worked on my photoshop and premiere
skills while i was there and it really
helped me improve on things that I
actually care about. I also doubled our
Twitter followers when i was working
there and I'm proud of that. I was a
cashier at K-mart for a while.
the store was near a retirement community
and there was an old woman who would
frequently visit the store, sometimes
dropping off cake for the employees
because she loved to bake so much, but
couldn't eat it all herself. The part of
the IT department at my school that I
was working for was absorbed by a
different department in the school. So I
lost my job, but they kept me on as a
receptionist which was cool because for
me involved learning how to fix
computers when we weren't busy and watching
YouTube when everyone else was too busy
to teach me. I worked as a camp counselor last
summer and that was great because i saw
the same 11 kids every weekday and I
really developed a bond with all of them.
I got to see them grow ,help them change,
and I really hope that they are
continuing to turn into the wonderful
young people that i know they can be.
The first day of camp I got offered a
job for when camp ended as a nanny. I really
love the family that I'm with because
the parents are really good at
parenting. The kids are nice, and
energetic, and creative- it's just really
fun to hang out with them and help them to
stay happy and healthy.
I worked at an ice-skating rink this
past winter which was awesome because I
I got to go ice skating for free and
got free hot chocolate when i was working.
I mean I could get other drinks for free too, but I mostly
mostly drank the hot chocolate. Also,
I really liked all of my co-workers. It was
kind of a chill place and it was fun. And
I just this past week started my new
job at jimmy johns and i'm not super
sure what
I like about it yet. Everyone seems nice,
but I'm still figuring out how to do my
job so I'm reserving judgment for what
I like and dislike about everything. On
that note I have to get ready for work.

Hello Sylvi. Welcome here. - Thank you.
- So this is the last work task prior to entering maternity leave. - That's right.
- You're the fourth woman in history that have done this, to be a Minister and go through a pregnancy at the same time.
What is that like, does it work? Is it a good thing?
- For me it's worked well, I've been in very good shape up until the last month, so I've travelled and worked alot,
I've not been nauseous, I've mostly been in good shape. Then it helps.
- But you've slowed down a bit at the end? - I have to admit that I had to calm down a bit, because I started feeling tired.
- That's almost a relief to hear.
But you're taking a short leave, a few months from now you're going back to work.
Will there be an election campaign with a beautiful baby on the arm?
- I'll be running an election campaign for one month in Møre and Romsdal.
I'll bring the whole family there, and the baby come along a bit more then. But from August it's full ahead,
so then my husband will take the full responsibility.
- But really, a baby, as an election prop...
...that is supreme. If you're on campaign with a beautiful little child, that beats all the candy and balloons, pins caps and all.
I don't know who much I'll bring the baby with me, but it will have to have some food in between, was my thought.
So then it's alright to bring along.
- Have you had the time, with all that you're doing, to watch Skam?
- No, unfortunately I haven't done so.
- But you've heard of it? - I've heard of it.
- It is a series about the intense years at high school, where there is emotional drama and rough things happening,
and strong friendships are made. How was it like on your high school, Spjelkavik high school? - Yes.
- Did the tyranny of beauty ravage there?
- There were many that was concerned with it at that time as well,
but I think it was a different time in many ways, like with social media i.e.,
it's for better, but also for worse, and I think that for the youth that will be an added load,
compared to when I was young. So I think the situation was different. I was quite relaxed...
- But which style did you have in high school?
- It was jogging suits and no makeup and rather boring really.
- Those that went with you, would they say that you showed an early talent as a debater and quareler that time?
- I think those that were in my social studies class would say that they maybe thought it might head towards a political career.
- Did anyone say so? - Yes, some would say, "I'm sure you'll be a politician". And I said "Oh no, I don't believe that at all".
- But an important part of the story in Skam is about the time of being russ.
What was that like at Spelkavik high school, did you learn any lessons of breaking limits... some 'rulling' (rolling), staying awake over nights...
some hooking? - Yes well, we partied a bit, we did. It was a very fun time. So yes, I did participate with the russ.
- Were you on a russe bus? - No, I wasn't. - You were walking russ?
- Yes, and then I got a lift with someone here and there.
From girlfriends and others that had a car.
- But Sylvi, you're a woman with many years experience in the public discussion in Norway,
Ulrikke, you're sortof on your way out of the starting pit, about to raise your voice in the public space. - Mhm.
- And now, next week you're giving a speech at Youngstorget, on the huge 8th of March gathering there. Are you excited?
- Very excited, honoured, in awe. Very excited, yes.
- Have you always considered yourself a feminist?
I've grown up with a mother that is a sociologist, and she's done gender studies.
Already when I was four she tried to teach me the word 'University library'
So she's been very concerned with those values, and I've had those,
but I haven't felt the need to call myself a feminist, until now recently.
- Are you a feminist? - I don't feel any need to call myself a feminist,
because I feel it's so related to the left-wing that are concerned with things that are alright enough...
...wages, pension points, that women are to get up and ahead...
- But one can be a right-wing feminist can't we?
- Yes, well... - Or an FrP (Progress Party) -feminist?
- Yes but I think the most important is that women are allowed to live their life and that one has equal opportunities,
and so I think the biggest battle for equality today deals with the immigrant girls that are forced into marriage,
that experience genital mutilation, that are exposed to social control, that don't have the freedom the rest of us have.
That's what concerns me. - But can't you be a feminist for those? - I am. - Oh.
So you are... - Or not feminist but a champion, to use another word.
- But what happened to you then? Why did you want to use the term feminist about yourself? "I want to be a feminist"?
- I think it's important to remove the stigma around the word 'feminist'.
- And I also think the ideology of feminism offers alot of knowledge and information that can strengthen youth.
- How? - When you look at the differences that have existed between men and women for a long time,
and see the results of that in media, advertising or counterculture, a lot can be traced back to
the gender inequality. But instead, youth have started directing their hatred towards themselves,
because of the outer pressure, and I think with more knowledge they can direct that anger and engagement
towards what is imbalanced in society, instead of themselves.
- Are you now thinking she's entering a dangerous cult?
- I think it's incredibly good that people engage in discussions, and it's very important topics you focus on,
the self-confidence of youth, it's a difficult phase for everyone. That one have lesser self-confidence then,
applies to both boys and girls, but especially girls. So to talk about it is very important.
- But you don't want anything to do with the term feminism, because it's connected to values you don't believe in.
But do you have anything to be grateful to feminism for?
- We do have equal opportunities to get ahead today... But one must work for it.
It's not like one can expect everything to come along for free.
Hard work is needed, and I think the most important choice you make if you want a career, to go in a specific direction,
is what kind of husband you want to get married to, if you are to have a career like I've had, and children,
you're completely dependant on a man that's supporting you, and I've been very lucky with that.
- So you MARRIED a feminist! - No...
- That's the deal.
- I think he would be very insulted if you said that. He as well.
- But Sylvi, we have to talk about some of the things that make you stand out as a politician.
Because it may look like you thrive in battle.
Is there anything in you that is delighted when things boil over and it's noisy around you?
- No, but then I become even more calm, I get a calmness in me.
The more the storm rage, the calmer I get, the more I think "Let's take one thing at a time."
So I've kind of learned to live with it. - Yes.
- And it's very good when you have such a job, to be able to endure it and keep calm and not raising your blood pressure.
- Especially now. - Yes.
- Something else that's remarkable about you is your ability find the sharpest words and rhetorical strategies
that really ignites aggression with your opponents of opinions.
Whether it's the feminist elite, or the "yelling choir" or the "tyrants of goodness" that want to "carry asylum seekers in on a gold chair"
Do you polish and think about these phrases, or is it a natural talent, that they arrive spontaneously?
A lot of people think I'm sitting for weeks carefully thinking about how to approach and say things,
but I'm not that clever, no. It comes naturally. It's something about us from Sunnmøre, we're rather straight forward.
I've always been that way. So it comes naturally.
- But it's almost poetic when you talk about "The Tyranny of Goodness that rides the country as a nightmare"
- It's... where do you get that from...
- It's just to give an image of some people trying to label others as evil because they have different opinions.
- While... - But in that sense you're participating in labeling as well?
- Yes, but... - When you use... cause you're the one using "Tyrant of Goodness" as a label.
- But in a way, that is to give an image of it. Because I think the goal is the same, wether you want a strict or liberal policy,
that we are to help as many people as possible. And I think that in having strict control on entering Norway, and that less people enter,
we release money to be used in local areas where the millions live.
- It's like you say, this is an important task. Immigration and integration is a huge challenge were we need all good forces on board, to succeed. - Yes.
- Have you ever played with the thought of using a more conciliatory language, and a little less dividing 'gunpowder' in the sentence building,
that we could get closer to that common goal?
- I think there's many that fights for a good integration, and I travel around a lot and talk about integration,
- But we notice those 'gunpowder' statements a lot... - You do, very much so.
Yes there's a lot of focus on those. - But do they get in the way a bit then, you think? If you in one way, in your mind,
have a more conciliatory approach, then this language, isn't it an obstacle for you?
- No, but I notice that some likes to twist and turn what I'm saying, and make a riot about things that honestly are taken out of context.
That's the way it is, and I'll just have to live with that.
- But was the "yelling choir" taken out of context? - No, but there was a lot of attention towards me on this fund raising that this advertising agency had made.
So I thought "We'll just go for it, back at them". And so I did.
- You went for it? - Yes, a little bit, we did.
- Sylvi, you're going into maternity leave. I have a remedy for you. - Oh.
- Now, while you wait for the baby, you're going to log off from everything except NRKs web player,

Water, More Water & Groundhog Day | US Adventures 2017 - Duration: 16:28.
Morning folks! It's about ten past eight in the morning
and I'm not really too sure what I'm going to do today.
I've came over to the window because I saw something really weird earlier
and I heard sirens when I was just starting the intro over there,
so I thought I'd come over and bring the camera in case it happened again.
What basically happened was there was an ambulance
kind of going along with the sirens on trying to get to an emergency I'm guessing.
And it got to the front of the traffic, like there was a big queue
and then to avoid the queue it swerved and went into the traffic coming the opposite way.
So it was basically driving the wrong way down this really busy road.
And there wasn't really anything on the other side of the road,
but like one car had to kind of swerve into another lane to avoid it
and that was just absolutely crazy,
I've never seen a car purposely drive the wrong way down the road.
I don't really know what I'm going to do today, I am going to take the bus.
That's all I've decided. I'm going to take the bus and go somewhere.
It's either going to be one of the parks and I'll go for a nice walk
or it's gonna be Discovery Green and I'll go and see all the Superbowl stuff that's happening.
I'm not really too sure which one.
The Superbowl I think I need to get my bag checked
and they're a bit more funny about what to bring in and stuff
so that's maybe not where I'm going to go,
but around that area there's all sorts of other cool things to see and that's kind of...
the iconic part of Houston I think, that's where like
all the buildings are kind of stacked together like whenever you see a picture of Houston,
it seems to be that area if I'm understanding it correctly.
So I should probably kind of head down there and see the main part of Houston.
Out of the window as well I can also see at the Marriott Hotel
there's like a strong police presence there and I think that's possibly where we drove past it last night
and there seemed to be something going on with the New England Patriots there
like maybe a welcome party or something?
So i don't know if they're staying at that hotel
and that's maybe why there's security around there. I don't really know.
But I might go down and check that out.
I'm gonna have to leave the hotel at some point anyway so that might be what I do.

This is legit my favorite day of the year.
I absolutely love it, it's better than my birthday.
I can't believe I'm in America on Groundhog Day, this is insane.
Like people over here at least know what Groundhog Day is.
In the UK if I say "Happy Groundhog Day", people are like, "What's Groundhog Day?"
So nevermind but um...
I think I'd like to go somewhere where people are kind of celebrating.
Not necessarily Groundhog Day, but if I could find like a Superbowl party or something
then I can just be celebrating Groundhog Day there!
Okay so I'm just waiting for the bus now
I'm not ready to show how long it is
but apparently it's going to be about 45 minutes until I get to Downtown.
That's where I've decided I'm going to go. Discovery Green, maybe see what's going on
see what looks good basically.

The bus took longer than a taxi would have done,
but I can tell you what, a taxi wouldn't have cost me $1.25.
And I also got to see all the things that I wouldn't see in a taxi
because people would be trying to get me to where I want to go as quickly as possible.
Okay so I'm on Main Street now and there seems to be a lot of shopping areas around here.
I'm maybe going to try and find somewhere to have lunch
and then later I'll maybe go and see Discovery Green.
There's a lot of Superbowl things going on down there today
so I'm not sure I'm gonna get in
but I've seen it mentioned that it's a bit like Houston's Central Park
so I think that's something that I need to go and see.
Okay so I think I'm down at Discovery Green now
and everything is cornered off and there's tons of people around.
It's just chaos down here like I suppose people know what they're doing
but for somebody who's just kind of looking around I don't think this is really the area I want to be in.
So I'm gonna.... keep wandering I think. I think that's the way to go.

That's really cool. Okay so I'm still wandering around,
still trying to find somewhere to eat.
I've been told that there's a really cool place at Prairie Street so I'm trying to find that right now.
So I've found a little taco place and I've got a breakfast taco on the way.
I don't think I've ever actually tried tacos so this should be interesting.
And yeah, I'll let you see it when it comes. This is my lemonade.
It's red because it's raspberry.
And I'm hopeful. I'm hopeful that this is gonna be a good thing.
It was only cheap here, I'm not sure it's gonna fill me up
but I think when I get back to the Galleria I'll maybe have something there
because they seem to have more sit-down type restaurants than they do in this part of town.
And here it is! That's like egg and potatoes, some cheese...
I can't remember what else is in it but we'll give that a go
and I'm not really too sure what this sauce is but I'll maybe give that a try if I'm feeling brave.
Well I just took a shuttle round the kind of Downtown area
to see if there was anything in particular that I wanted to see.
I didn't really see anything. There's probably really cool things to do in Houston but
I wasn't really finding anything that was particularly inspiring me.
So now I'm on the bus back to the Galleria. This is like a special Superbowl one they have on.
And yeah, it's only $2 which is much better value than taking the taxi or something.
So I'm the only one on the bus at the moment,
but there might be more people soon.
I'm thinking of transferring over to this little seat too.
Firstly because I'm by myself and secondly so that nobody sits next to me.
And also there's like a novelty value to it I suppose.
So yeah next time you see me we might be back up at the Galleria.

This is in the middle of the Galleria, isn't that nuts? Just like a water fountain.
The other day when I was in here, it stopped just as I pulled my camera out.
But today I've managed to get it.
Anyway speaking of water we're probably gonna see a bit more later
because I'm gonna try and find the Water Wall.
We just drove past it on the bus so it shouldn't be that hard to find it again.
But I'm detouring through Macy's because they're having special appearances in the next few days
and I want to find out more.
Okay so I just checked Macy's because they are having celebrity appearances this week.
The one that I was most intrigued by was Alyssa Milano
because I love Charmed, honestly I do.
But when I looked at the details you have to make a purchase, which is fair enough
and kind of line up and be one of the first 100 to make a purchase.
And I'm not really interested in doing all that just to maybe meet her
and tomorrow evening is when my friend's coming as well
so I don't want to kind of distract too much from that
I'd rather concentrate on seeing him instead of going,
"Hey, nice to see you, let's go meet Alyssa Milano."
Anyways I'm just heading over to the other side of the Galleria now
and then we're heading outside to go and see the Water Wall.
I knew this was nearby but I had no idea
how nearby, if you come out Nordstrom's and just walk along the street,
you find it so easily. Because it always looked to me like it was
in the middle of like a nature sanctuary or something.
It's weird to think of this next to such a commercial area.
Whoever dreamt this up is just absolutely amazing.

And then if we go down here there's a massive massive building there too.

I'm not sure if I'm gonna have something to eat just now
but I'll maybe see if there's anything worth having.
Okay so here's the thing. I'm just walking to the Galleria behind me
and over the road is the hotel I think where the New England Patriots are staying.
You can decide for yourself. There's people everywhere.
Totally insane. I mean being from Scotland, I'm just not used to this.
I don't know who they are
I'm staying in the same hotel as the friends and family but I wouldn't know them from anybody else.
And it's totally mad to me, there's a news crew behind me there as well
but look at all the people, there's like tons of people who are just standing outside the hotel
trying to see if they can see anybody.
It's totally nuts, isn't it? I had no idea. Well I knew the Superbowl was a big thing,
but it's just not something that's on in the UK so we just never really pay attention to it.
They've tried to make it a thing the last couple of years but fetch just isn't happening.
There's another news crew, I've just passed another one as well
that's like three altogether who are just kind of standing on the opposite side of the road.
side of the road and that's just totally insane to me.
And I'm back in the room!
Okay Superbowl fever has officially hit my hotel.
I thought it was bad this morning, but it's definitely around now.
Like this morning they had a stand downstairs where you could buy merchandise
and there was various people out ready to welcome anybody who came in,
but now there's people just standing there ready to open the door
which is what they were doing anyway, but now
it's like they won't go away and do something else, they will stand at that door
and just check that everybody's there. There were cookies everywhere.
Like everywhere. I'm gonna have to go down and get some later.
And when I went to get the elevator somebody, one of the hotel staff came in with me
and pushed the button for me which I felt was a bit extreme.
So I really feel like they're trying to turn it into like a five-star hotel now
which is really getting my money's worth.
I wasn't able to really say anything when I went to get my food
because there was copyrighted music in the background
and as a YouTuber that's a big no-no so- I did take some video though
so you'll kind of see that while I'm telling you what it is.
So what I had was a Stromboli which I've never ever had before
it's like a pizza crossed with a sausage roll is probably the best way for me to describe it.
I brought back some leftovers because it felt like a bit too much for me.
Like they also had a combo meal where you could like get something from the buffet
so I got some meatballs as well so between the two they've really filled me up
and all that was for like $10. So I'm totally filled.
But I'm Little Miss Sweet Tooth so I have a brownie. Let me just show you this.
Okay so this is a cookies-and-cream brownie. Delicious!
Again I'm not too sure if I'm gonna eat the whole thing now
but that'll keep me going for a little bit.
I think I have a spare spoon still in my wardrobe.
I know it's like a really weird place to keep spoons. Ah ha! There we go.
That was from my cheesecake. So I'm gonna get started on that
and I'll check in with you later I'm sure.
Okay I am so so happy right now.
As I mentioned this morning it is Groundhog Day today
which is my most favorite day and that's because Groundhog Day the movie is my most favorite movie.
And I will watch it all the time I really don't care, there's been days where
I've just watched it on a loop. I just love that film, honestly.
So with it being Groundhog Day,
if I had been at home, I would have been watching Groundhog Day today.
So I went online to try and find out if it was gonna be on TV
and it looked like I wasn't going to be able to get the channel that it was on,
but I've managed it! I've managed to get it on the TV.
I am watching Groundhog Day.
I actually did a little victory dance when I managed to get it on
because I was so sure it wasn't gonna work. So that's the rest of my evening planned!
So I'm just watching Groundhog Day in a loop right now, it's brilliant.
Groundhog Day marathons are definitely the way forward. The UK did it last year
and this is happening this year in the US. I don't know if they've done it in the past
or if any other country has done it but they're just so cool honestly.
Anyways, as I was watching the end of the last Groundhog Day,
I decided to tweet Stephen Tobolowsky
who played Ned Ryerson in the film, who's always been my favorite character.
Years ago I set up like a kind of fan club page on Bebo for Ned Ryerson.
And sadly Bebo is no more, but my love for Ned Ryerson continues.
Anyways so I just thought I'd tweet him and say,
"Happy Groundhog Day," you know, "From your number one fan".
And he liked it. I can't believe that actually happened, it was just crazy.
And even funnier was like I was checking my emails as Ned Ryerson was on the screen.
So as I was reading it he was kind of there like
"It's Ned, Needlenose Ned, Ned the Head" Oh man!
Best Groundhog Day honestly.
Well after a busy day of walking around and seeing everything there is to see of Houston,
I cannot think of any better way to finish the day than with a snuggly blanket
and my favorite ever movie.
So it's still early yet but since this is a Groundhog Day marathon
I'm pretty sure I'm going to be watching Groundhog Day until I go to bed tonight.
So I'm not going to make you watch it with me,
