Artificial intelligence is an old-fashioned method to simulate the human brain - how is learns

The math behind it has been around for many years and now the computer capabilities are also getting there

Especially when you use the modern graphics cards because in these you can have many parallel processes running

just like we have many parallel processes running through our brains with all the different neurons specialized in different features

such as recognizing faces, recognizing edges and contrasts

You can teach this to the computer by making a deep network in layers

which then on its own figures out which features in the data it should look for

and that is what we want to utilize in our projects about image data

Instead of having to code everything specifically - that this flaw appears in a specific way

a grape looks like this, an illness on a grape looks like this, then we point out how it may look

and then we make the computer generalize what makes a specific piece unique

This is an advantage in e.g. waste sorting because if we want to look at remote controls

then they can look very differently, and we cannot program the computer in this case

If it was always this model, which is how traditional industrial vision works

you manufacture this piece so that you know it always looks like this

then you would be able to tell the computer directly to program it to only search for this model

but if we need to give a kind of abstract class called "remote controls"

and they can look like this and they can also look like this

then I cannot program the computer to recognize a certain size or a certain button distribution and so on

We can also look at phones. They also have buttons

but this is not a remote control and it is important that we do not mix these two objects

because these phones are worth much more for the waste disposal centers than these

There are more advanced technology and usable chips, compact chips in these phones

and their batteries are worth more than those in the remote controls
