This is Andrea.
Andrea is my German friend that I knew 4 months ago.
At that moment, one of my friends was getting ready for studying in Germany,
so I kinda thought 'it'll be nice idea to let them meet!',
and that's how three of us became friends.
Sola and I wanted to make special experiences for Andrea.
We introduced Seoul,
brought her to great local cafe,
traveled together,
and met her father.
Andrea made our time special.
But actually, making exchange students friends requires efforts.
Or, I'd say you might get tired.
Of course, it's not as comfy as meeting up with local friends.
Even among friends, we needed efforts.
We eventually started to feel comfortable to each other,
but then it was December.
December is the month Andrea is leaving.
I have no idea right now.
Video is gonna be the present.
Or we could film ourselves doing something.
as a birthday video, you know.
You can make a video about that.
Sola just...
Sola just got a great idea.
There is a big projector and a screen in Andrea's lecture room.
There, around the time the lecture finishes or maybe in the break time,
we could play a video.
Birthday video!
I'll turn off the light and bring the cake.
And you could follow me with your camera.
Filming Andrea's reaction.
Don't you think she'll get freaked out?
I'd be freaked out as well.
Watching herself on the screen.
It's not even her homeland.
Hi, professor!
The weather is getting cold...
I studied economics and now I'm making video.
I got to write this mail 'cuz I wanted to ask you a favor.
I got the response after 3 days.
Now I'm right before the professor's lab.
I just finished the talk with the professor.
He was willing to help and very understanding.
He was like, "Do whatever you want"
So we could come up with our own plan.
I'm working on Andrea's birthday video,
but why is it so hard?
What should I do?
To me, making a movie is telling a story.
I might be a bothering person to Andrea.
'Cuz I've always been asking her to make videos together.
Andrea's answers were always 'yes'.
But filming can be really exhausting behind the scenes.
Especially when you don't really have to.
Maybe that's why...
I've been not comfortable.
Or maybe,
I've never said this, but...
I was always feeling sorry.
12:02 am.
I just finished the video,
and I tried to summarize our story,
and asking for help of students there at the same time.
Not sure if it's good enough.
This is the plan.
Andrea takes class from 3 pm to 5 pm.
Then the professor will play the video at the end,
and we'll show up with the cake.
This is the lecture room.
There'll be a screen coming down and then the projector, and then the video is gunna be played.
I put the video file on the computer.
And we'll get out of here 'cuz she might come.
We were getting ready for it.
The lecture has begun at 3.
And at 5, the professor will play the video.
But the problem: we don't know where Andrea is sitting.
The problem is the location.
Even if we're ready, we can't film if we don't know where she is.
But...
we still had a small hope.
Wow, I can see through it.
Oh, that's good.
I can't see. I can't see.
This wasn't good enough.
But...
She just let me know where Andrea was sitting.
Oh, thank you.
Do you personally know Andrea?
Not really.
Do you see?
I can't
The 2nd row in the middle.
We couldn't check the face, but got the location.
The lecture room is over there.
We're waiting for the break time.
Andrea is playing with cellphone.
*34 minutes before the class finishes*
It's an unexpected situation.
Ahh, I should've given him the camera.
We got a problem.
There's no break time.
Now we can't set up the camera in advance.
The plan is now messed up 'cuz there's no break time.
One student just got out, so I'll try to talk.
You know the 2nd row?
Andrea is the one in the middle using MacBook.
Can you help us btw?
Oh thank you!
The professor will play the video at a moment.
Then you should take this out.
Take this out, and towards Andrea, having her on the screen,
put it on the table like this.
Filming her face like this.
You can press this red button.
Right now it's recording.
I thought the problem was solved.
I gave my camera to that person.
Now I'm filming with iPhone.
*Inside the lecture room*
The problem was the laptop.
Holy crap.
Holy crap.
Andrea wasn't sitting there.
That person is using MacBook, but come to think if it, Andrea doesn't have one.
That's NOT Andrea!
Everything is messed up now.
Yeah yeah, Andrea uses an old laptop,
which looks like an helicopter.
Now it was no use asking for help to that student.
Hope she(the student) will come out again.
She won't.
Please come out again.
You should have got the number.
Yeah, I should've sent an message.
Now we got the real seat.
This time, it looked real.
*5 minutes before the class ends*
What should I do?
We really don't have time.
Sola is coming.
Andrea doesn't have MacBook.
I should've remembered that!
Hey, Andrea is gone!
Seriously?
There she is! There she is!
The only way left is me getting in.
Um, I don't personally keep in touch with many people.
I'm tired of having pressure by relationships.
Instead, I've never felt difficult on the relationships with my friends.
Always comfy and encouraging,
those are the friends I love.
It requires efforts to make exchange students friends.
Or, you might get tired.
Of course, it's not as comfy as the local friends.
But why would I be willing to maintain this relationship?
Sola and I are a different kind of people to Andrea.
At the same time, Andrea, too, was discovering things about ourselves that others never knew.
For that reason, Andrea was a reflection of ourselves that we never realized.
We just said goodbye to Andrea.
I didn't really take the last shot of her.
I just said bye.
Just felt it's better this way.
This kind of relationship lets me know more about myself.
To my friend who always answers 'yes',
I've never told this, but...
I was...
always grateful.
