Luthier's secrets #01 - Frets beveling [MusicTools frets guide] - Duration: 2:26.

Frets are the key factor in the instrument intonation quality

In this video, I will show you how to dress the ends of the frets and get a perfect result

Before thinking about adding a bevel to the frets

it is mandatory to achieve a perfect installation

Poorly installed frets, uneven or not leveled or incorrectly positioned on the scale length

will screw up all your previous work.

Once the frets are perfectly placed and flush with the fretboard

it is the time to finish them to a professional instrument grade quality

The easiest thing to do this is just by using the Music Tools fret bevel guide

It is a simple but powerful tool

It helps you file the frets end and achieve a constant angle along the fretboard edge

An easy trick to know when to stop filing

is just painting the fretboard edges with chalk

It is harmless and will not leave any marks or flaws

It is now time to use the guide. It is super easy to use!

The guide will keep the file at the correct angle

and you get a perfect bevel the full length of the fretboard

It is that easy! You just have to file until the chalk tells you the bevel is completed and you have reached the fretboard wood

In less than two minutes, the work is done

The file can be easily set using an hex wrench in order to work with a different fretboard thickness

This also allows us to wrap the file with sand paper

Depending on the frets material, you can choose the best suited sandpaper and achieve the better result

By using several grains, you can polish the bevels like a mirror

The final finish is simply stunning...

It is important to soften the sharp fret edges for a comfortable instrument and a flawless finish

But that is left for a different video... I hope you found the video useful, best regards!!

Will I lose my French? (vlog in English, Eng & Fr subtitles) - Duration: 5:00.

Hello and welcome to Learn English with Jojo.

I have not found a good spot to record where I can put my phone up on a tree or something

so hopefully it's not too shaky.

I will try to hold the camera as not-shaky as possible so bear with me.

Right now I am in Glasgow, Scotland right next to the University of Glasgow campus and

it's very beautiful as you can see from this awesome church thing behind me.

It's all like that.

And I just wanted to talk a little bit about my experience leaving France in this video.

And specifically, I wanted to talk about how I am scared about forgetting my French now

that I am no longer in France.

So it was a good transition because in Edinburgh where I recorded my last video, there were

a lot of French speakers in the hostel so I could continue to practice, but now that

I'm in Glasgow, I don't know what I'm going to do because while I am continuing

to read French books and I am continuing to watch YouTube videos in French and I think

I'm going to start to listen to podcasts in French, I am not really able to speak to

anyone because there are not French people around me.

So I am considering talking to myself and I think recording videos counts as talking

to myself but nothing can really mimic speaking to other people.

In my opinion speaking a language or attempting to speak a language is the best way to learn

a language because you have to constantly improvise.

You have to take in what the other person is saying and you have to respond accordingly.

So I'm going to search for French speakers while I am travelling and constantly listen

to see if I can find any because there were a lot in Edinburgh…

Edinburgh and I imagine there are some French speakers here.

But if I can't find any people to talk to, I will have to wait until I am back in Chicago

where I am going to look for French conversation groups and if I can't find any, I am going

to start my own French conversation groups.

So.

Yeah.

That is my plan and even though I'm afraid of losing my French because each time I've

gone back to the United States, I've gotten a little bit worse at French and then I have

to spend a month or so relearning what I have forgotten.

I think I…

I think I will be fine.

I think it's going to be alright.

But if you have any ideas for me for how to mimic conversation besides talking to myself

and making videos in French, please let me know.

Or if you've had similar experience with this.

If you've been to an English-speaking country for example and then you've come back and

tried your best to continue with your immersion.

Ok.

That's it.

I hope you have a great day.

The weather is beautiful in the UK right now and I'm trying to make the best of it.

I'm trying to "profiter" but in English, we don't say profit from, because profit

always has to do with money.

Anyway.

Ok.

Bye.

It's been real.

Look at this church!

It's so nice!

Oh yeah.

Peace.

SOURDOUGH STARTER STORAGE - How to Dry a Sourdough Starter - Duration: 4:03.

Now if you've joined me on the series about making a sourdough starter, you've got the

beautiful sourdough starter.

Now what are you going to do with it, well if you're baking regularly just keep it on

the side feed it each day, make your bread.

If you're only making sourdough every week or so then pop this into the fridge and chill

it, that will stop the yeast from developing and when you're ready to use it just remember

to bring it out three or four hours before.

Bring it up to room temperature, take about half a cup of the sourdough mixture out and

then feed back into it, equal quantities of water and flour, up to about again half a

cup and you will see within a few hours all the yeast will come back to life and you can

store this pretty much indefinitely.

You will have heard people keeping sourdough starters for many tens of years I believe

even 50 60 years plus but here's a dilemma maybe you just want to stop making sourdough

for six months or so and you don't want to look after it in the fridge or if like me

you've made this beautiful sourdough starter and I'm moving from Sicily, we've only been

here for a short while and going to a completely new location, is it possible to take this

with you?

I'll show you the best way to do that.

We're going to dry this sourdough out just like you would dried yeast.

Get yourself a nice sheet of baking paper and then we're going to take this beautiful

Airy sourdough starter and we're just going to spoon it onto the parchment paper, or baking

paper and then I've got a little crank handled spatula here and we're just going to push

this out, nice and flat so you

spread your sourdough out nice and thin

and evenly across some parchment like

this. Now it very much depends on the

environment you're in, the temperature,

the time of year but this can take

anywhere from one to maybe even three

days. When it's completely dry I'll show

you what we do with it. So you can see my

yeast dried out, it took about a day and

a half where I am but it's crisp as crisp can

be. So how are we going to store this? For

me I'm just going to take these bits of

dried yeast and I'm going to break them

up into a bowl, you can see it's almost,

it's almost like a cornflake consistency.

It's super dehydrated but the yeast is

still alive in this dried mixture. I'm

just going to crush it up a little bit

finer. Now because we are traveling in

Sicily at the moment I haven't got all

my kitchen equipment, I would probably

process this down to a fine powder or

use a mortar and pestle to make it to a

fine powder but it's not necessary, it's

just as simple to keep it like this in

the flakes and I'm going to store it in

a ziplock bag. So I just zip that closed

and that is it, there is my yeast I can

store it for many months, years even in

this dry form and you can take it with

you to another destination. Now I hope a

lot of you have found this useful,

if you want to rehydrate this by the way,

you can just add it back to water, start

feeding it again but I am thinking of

doing a video sometime in the future,

whether it's here in Sicily or maybe in

a different part of the world even, where

I'm going to use this yeast and

rehydrate it, just to explain to you how

simple it is. So look out for that video, I hope

you've enjoyed the bread series that

we're doing here on Steve's kitchen. Be

good,

I'll leave a link to the whole bread

series at the end of the video, take care,

share the love, give this the thumbs up
