Not to say there hasn't been some solid additions in recent years - like the retro inspired
Sonic Mania - but the number of questionable games they've pumped out is a little disheartening,
especially in the 3D realm.
A while back we counted down our top 10 best sonic games, so now we're taking a look at
the flip side of that with the top 10 worst sonic games.
So, whether youre a sonic fan or just curious about what Sonic games are worth your time
and money, take our advice on this - you'll likely want to avoid the ones on this list.
10 Sonic Forces Let's start off this list with the most recent
Sonic game to be released as of this recording - Sonic Forces.
The game received a lot of mixed reviews from critics, with the cons being repetitive boss
fights, lack of consistency in performance across consoles, poor psychics and under developed
tag team sections.
But it does score points for overall visuals and letting you create your own avatar, despite
the fact that this opened up the door for you to become the mastermind behind your own
disturbing latex fetish clown, or hedgehog nightmare fuel.
Sonic Forces may not be as bad as some previous instalments in the franchise, and offers up
new ideas, but it also manages to fail in many areas where it should've improved upon,
based on making those mistakes in previous games.
Regardless, the game was generally a disappointment to many fans, especially coming off of the
high that was Sonic Mania.
9 Sonic Unleashed When Sonic Unleashed was first teased, it
hinted to the series returning to it's platforming roots.
Which to many was exciting, since prior to it, the franchise had been privy to a slew
of poorly received titles.
Released in 2008, it got mixed reviews, and generally performed well on the Wii, with
critics noting the Xbox and PS3 versions were awful and under developed.
Once again, the visuals in the game were praised, but it wasn't enough to save the game from
the Werehog concept , which featured Sonic transforming into the hedgehog equivalent
of a werewolf, with many reviewers and fans feeling as if it's sloppy gameplay and boring
story arc were slapped on to the game last minute.
8 Sonic Blast Sonic Blast is still considered to be an entertaining
game.
Even by critics.
Released in 1996, a platformer that was for the Genesis and Saturn consoles, the game
contained different gameplay than previous Sonic games, which didn't sit well with some
fans.
The level design, music and graphics were all praised, but it contained slower gameplay
than previous Sonic titles - significantly.
Despite lazy controls, it still appealing to fans, but didn't manage to captivate those
who didn't already have an affinity for the franchise, or those who craved the speeds
Sonic is known for.
7 Sonic Shuffle While the Japanese version is considered by
some to be a superior version to the English release, Sonic Shuffle was suppose to be the
equivalent to Mario Party, with Sonic Knuckles Tails and Amy, allowing for up to 4 player
coop.
Sounds neat, right?
Well, had the execution been decent, perhaps it would've been.
The loading times between each characters turn on the game board made it lose momentum,
with some calling the mini games pointlessly complex and somewhat boring.
6 Sonic R There's always been something a bit absurd
about the Sonic racing games.
While some of them have proven to be impressive and enjoyable - like Sonic All Stars Racing
Transformed - others have felt pretty redundant.
Sonic R may not feel redundant compared to other Sonic racing games, but it definitely
feels pointless.
It's canon that Sonic is the fastest character in the series, with Shadow running a very
tight close second.
So why create a game in which the characters race each other, for the most part, on foot?
Using vehicles at least made some sort of sense.
In addition to that, critics complained about the controls and gameplay, and how they made
the game incredibly easy, without adding any real challenge or real depth to provide replay-ability.
And to top it all off, it has one of the worst Sonic soundtracks to appear in the franchise.
5 Sonic Labyrinth Played from an isometric perspective, Labyrinth
is a puzzle platformer that was released in 1995.
So, why is it bad?
Well, it was an attempt to break the mould and branch out the Sonic franchise by expanding
on the genre, except it was slow, repetitive and the game featured poor sound effects.
4 Sonic Free Riders Zero Gravity Sonic Riders Zero Gravity is one of those
games redundant Sonic racing games we mentioned earlier.
It's Sonic on hoverboards.
But aside from the absurdity of that, critics trashed it for sloppy, loose controls and
a lazy plot.
If played on the Nintendo Wii without a game cube controller, players could only use the
motion controls, which critics said made the game confusing and practically unplayable.
It was as if the game was rushed in development, resulting in controls that still needed to
be further improved.
3 Shadow the Hedgehog Yeah because Shadow whipping around a gun
totally seems necessary and fitting of the franchise.
Yep.
From some questionable narrative and thematic choices and unfavourable plot, this 2005 game
was panned for it's attempts at being edgy, and instead coming off as laughable.
Its weapons were stupid.
The levels were poorly designed, with some critics expressing outrage over what felt
like copied and pasted features from previous successful games.
But, silver lining - maybe - the soundtrack was great.
So hey, at least there's that.
2 Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric A 2014 game for the Wii, Sonic Boom Rise of
Lyric is another spinoff game that's part of the Sonic Boom franchise.
You know, the one where Knuckles is ion steroids and is just a flat out idiot.
Yay, continuously ruining iconic characters.
Aside from taking the things that you love and slowly suffocating them, Rise of Lyric
was plagued by many gameplay mechanic issues.
Like its problematic camera system, its under developed controls, the poorly written story
and dialogue, and of course, plethora of glitches.
It's initially showing at E3 gained a slew of mixed reviews and set up low expectations
for the game, which it met, with critics calling it bland, unpolished and lacking of quality.
1 Sonic 06 Produced to commemorate the franchises' 15th
anniversary, Sonic the Hedgehog, aka Sonic 06 (due to it being released in 2006) was
a major let down.
Why?
Well first off, it's initial pre release showings received a ton of praise.
Secondly, it's plot was riddled with weird shit, like Sonics death, the introduction
to Silver (which got mixed reviews, really, as some people dig him), the narratives overall
cohesiveness, and the fact that Sonic macks on a human lady friend, or rather, she kisses
him to bring him back to life.
While the game did feature some terrifying new characters and offered up a solid intimidating
boss fight or two, it's gameplay mechanics put the rest of it to shame.
Critics noted that it had a sloppy camera system, ridiculously long load times, bad
voice acting, was riddled with glitches, and the controls were imprecise.
And that in general, it seemed under developed, lacking any refining or polishing, as if Sega
pushed out the game despite it being fully finished.
It's considered to be the worst game in the Sonic franchise, with many people believing
it's one of the worst 3D games in history.
So what have we learned today?
That generally, the consensus with all poorly developed Sonic games is looks great, stunning
graphics, but the gameplay is the equivalent of dragging nails on a chalkboard.

Another Democrat narrative buster has just been revealed.
Dems continually lied about the recently passed GOP tax reform bill, claiming the middle class
wouldn't see any cuts.
Go figure.
The middle class does get the largest portion of the wide-ranging cuts!
From Cato Institute:
The Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) has released its distributional analysis of the
final Republican tax bill.
The bill provides even larger percentage cuts for middle earners than previous versions
of the legislation.
The table below takes estimated payroll and excise taxes out of the JCT data.
It shows individual and corporate income tax cuts as a percentage of estimated individual
and corporate income taxes paid under current law.
Middle-income households will receive by far the largest percentage income tax cuts in
2019.

Democrats this week tried a new approach in their battle against the Republican tax cut
bill: lying by omission.
Starting Monday, Democratic leaders released a talking point that said the bill would actually
raise taxes on 86 million middle-class households or families, despite GOP claims it would reduce
taxes for most people.
"Today, we face a GOP tax scam that raises taxes on 86 million middle-class families,"
Pelosi said Tuesday.
That was repeated over, and over, with no clarification.
"History will indeed remember this vote.
Future generations of Americans will remember who cast their votes to raise taxes on 86
million middle-class households," said House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, D-Md., on the House
floor.
What Democrats tried to hide is that their statement is based on one part of the Tax
Policy Center's analysis of the GOP bill, which focused on what would happen in 2027,
after the individual tax cuts are set to expire.
What's the immediate impact of the GOP bill, starting in 2018?
Why, tax cuts for almost everyone, of course.
Another day, another lie.

NORTH Korea has sanctions imposed by U N a bid to stop regime petrol supply and ballistic
missile tests.
The UN voted unanimously to limit North Korea's access to refined petroleum products and crude
oil and the sanctions would also ban the regime from exporting food, agricultural products,
minerals machinery and electrical equipment.
The United States is heading the campaign to pressure Pyongyang into abandoning its
nuclear weapons and missile programmes.
North Korea has claimed that the whole of the United States is within its reach of a
missile attack. It is hoped that the sanctions restricting oil imports will starve North
Korea of fuel and income for its weapons programmes.
The UN wants to ban almost 90 per cent of refined petroleum exports to North Korea by
capping them at 500,000 barrels a year and has demanded the repatriation of North Koreans
working abroad within 24 months.
Tension have been brewing over North Korea�s nuclear and missile programmes.
In November, the secretive nations demanded a stop to what they described as �brutal
sanctions�. Although the US wants to reach a diplomatic solution to the crisis, they
hope that the sanctions will increase pressure on Kim Jong-un.
The US ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, said: �It sends the unambiguous message
to Pyongyang that further defiance will invite further punishments and isolation".
Wu Haitao, China's deputy U.N. ambassador, said tensions on the Korean peninsula risk

I've been on a streak from b of a and a few Wells Fargo boxes that have been
uncirculated coins so I want to kind of get into this now and at least ensure
well can insure but I can find out
circulated nickels we're hoping and the good news is I see a nice mix of
Jeffersons the older Jefferson style as well as some mixes of oh six is and
seventeen so definitely got a circulated box here without further ado I want to
get into this box and I will loop you in if we find some cool finds as always
okay guys we're our thirteenth role in it's been kind of a slow hunt as far as
anything pre 50s we do have a couple of 53's two 54's a 55 57 and 58 kind of weird
toning on this one you know just not a really clean 54 but I'm pulling it
out anyway did get a be more examination it's
almost like a 69 proof it is an S mint mark really clean Ill have to look more into
that one but I bring you along because I was noticing that coin right there and
yep nineteen forty first 40s coin of the box and it's a forty D so that's pretty
good little find right there we'll get back to the hunt maybe there's something
more on this roll maybe there's something more in his box all right guys
we're 29 rolls in we still only have eight from the 50s
and that one 40s but look what's sneaking out a 1934 Buffalo no mark
so it's a philadelphia but we've got a legible date and not too bad of a
buffalo I will take it I don't have a 34 that makes me happy
sweet let's get back to the hunt 34th roll in guys it's an ugly one but it's a
1941 I don't see a mint mark probably gotta clean it up looks like it might not
have wne but it's our second 40s coin whoo-hoo still excited about that
Buffalo though let's get back to it and hope we get a little more into the box
love okay guys 37th roll in I only got it another 40s coin 1948 yes we'll take
it third from the 40s 38th roll box is
starting to heat up got ourselves a 1941 San Francisco sure beats the other 41 I
got much better looking now we got four from the 40s let's keep looking hope
that the box is heating up okay guys very next roll, roll number 39 kind
of a cool toning on it I almost missed it just because I didn't think it was
gonna be anything special by the coloring but it is a 41 Philly I will
take it now we got five from the 40s and eight from the 50s
plus the Buffalo let's get back after it alright guys 42nd roll in the last
coin of the roll we got ourselves a 46 Philly we'll take
it six coins in the 40s now went from only having one after like 30 to now
having six after 42 we like that put the 60s in the 60s and we'll grab the next
roll out 47th roll the Box guys I almost missed it cuz I couldn't see the date I
don't know if you can either but it is a 1948 filly another ugly one but you
could wash up okay let's get back to hunting see if we get a little more love
at the end of the box all right guys one roll left in the box this is roll number
49 right here we got ourselves another 1940 D we'll take it that puts us at a
nice 8 40s now we started to get a little run on 50s as well got 13 of
those so 13 of the 50s and8 of the 40's and a buffalo a couple of 2009's some
keeper coins cuz they're in really great shape we'll finish the rest of this roll
and not got that role and I find something in it will loop you in
otherwise stay tuned for the roundup we ended with 86 coins in the 60s a couple
of 2009's I kept a couple of these coins cuz adjusted a really great condition
this is it 1989 it doesn't have full steps there's a little scratch at the
bottom otherwise it would have full steps not a lot of scratches on it
honestly it's a really good coin again it's an 89 fairly common to have them in
really good condition but I like it another example is this 1975 very
similar condition it's got about for the steps and then it's a little flattened
at the bottom but again not a lot of scratches so that's kind of what I kept
aside for good coins those types of coins for many days or less we had 13 in
the 50s no 1950s we do get a couple of 52's
we ended up with five coins in 1953 two fifty fours
a 55 two 57 and a 58 various mints we ended up with two 1940 coins 3 41's a
46 and a couple of 48 and then the best coin in the box is a 1934 Philadelphia
Mint Buffalo not the greatest condition but it's a buffalo what are you gonna do
now I need to put these into the catalog and wash my hands if you enjoyed this

Ted Chiang is a genius, but he's wrong about Silicon Valley
Ted Chiang isn't just one of the greatest science-fiction writers alive — he's one of the greatest writers alive full stop. Which is why I was so saddened and disappointed by his recent excoriation of Silicon Valley in BuzzFeed.
As the tech industry grows ever more powerful, we need brilliant minds critiquing and dissecting its many flaws. Instead we got a trenchant takedown of a Valley that only exists in the minds of especially shallow journalists.
To be clear, his larger point is dead on: that being that the worry about an AI which maximizes for the wrong thing, most famously one which is told to make paperclips and responds by turning the entire planet into paperclips, is a worry which applies perfectly and exactly to capitalism itself.
The maximalist capital mindset, i.e.
"all the world's problems can be solved just by making markets freer" and "the social responsibility of businesses is to increase their profits" are indeed examples of robotic thinking, either profound intellectual laziness or a very flimsy fig leaf for greedy narcissism.
Such thinking — call it "paperclip capitalism" — is devoid of any context, nuance, or understanding that even at its well-regulated best, capitalism is only ever a means to an end, not an end of itself.
(as an aside: the paperclip analogy has given us what is clearly 2017's game of the year, Universal Paperclips, which ate a night of my life a few months ago.
Hilariously, and/or semiotically terrifying, people have now of course begun to train AIs to play and win at this game…).
But the thing Chiang doesn't get is: Silicon Valley is actually not a home of paperclip capitalism. That's Confessions of an Economic Hit Man-style neoliberal globalization.
That's not the tech industry. The Valley is a flawed and sometimes terrible place, true, but it's a nuanced sometimes flawed and terrible place.
Chiang: "Who adopts a scorched-earth approach to increasing market share? … It's assumed that the AI's approach will be "the question isn't who is going to let me, it's who is going to stop me," i.
, the mantra of Ayn Randian libertarianism that is so popular in Silicon Valley. His argument is wrong because his postulate is wrong. Uber and Peter Thiel are not Silicon Valley; they are extreme outliers.
Silicon Valley is mostly full of people who really want to build rocket ships and cure cancer with data analysis and who genuinely believed that "making the world more open and connected" could only ever be beneficial; who go to Burning Man each year and talk about how great it is that it's decommodified and how awful capitalism is; who see capitalism as the engine that will drive them to their goal of [insert technical breakthrough here], not wealth as a goal in and of itself.
This is a major reason that Elon Musk is so hero-worshipped.
Silicon Valley wants to do as he did, and follow the trail he blazed; first, make a lot of money from paperclip capitalism, yes (like Musk did with PayPal) but only in order to use that money to make rocket ships and electric cars and solar roofs.
Not as an end in itself. They don't want paperclips. They want to use the paperclip machine to build a paperclip catapult to launch humanity to Mars.
It turns out that this is a hopelessly naïve and confused and counterproductive and corruptible approach, flawed in many or at least several different ways, each of which deserves considered dissection and repudiation — but it's nothing like the straw Valley that Chiang attacks in his piece.
I hope he takes a second swing at it sometime, maybe in fiction. We absolutely need brilliant, critical eyes watching and criticizing our every move. But they have to be close enough to see through the cliché, and into the nuance.
