Youtube daily report w Dec 7 2017

I was in the 5th grade when all this started.

Now, let me first say, there were many events that happened from when I was in the 5th grade

to about 8th, but I'm only really gonna talk about two.

Someone knocked on the door.

Back then, my neighborhood was considered to be pretty safe, we never locked our doors

because we never really had a reason to.

So I went to the door and I opened it, but nobody was there.

I honestly didn't think much of it, probably one of my brothers friends or something, so

I turned on the porch light and went outside.

Once again for as far as I could see, there was no one.

I went back inside and sat in the living room to watch House until my mom got home.

A half an hour goes by and I'm still sitting on the couch which on-looks my kitchen, the

kitchen window, and partly out into my backyard, though at this time it was like 8 p.m. so

it was fairly dark.

With my head facing the left side of the room watching my show, I saw something dark flash

by the window.

It was quick, and it was only out of the corner of my eye, but there was something that flashed

by the window.

A few more minutes go by, and I'm texting my best friend, Sam, I told her I thought

someone might be trying to prank me or something when I started to just feel really uneasy,

like someone was watching me.

I looked up, and I shit you not, there was the outline of a person all in black in the

fucking window.

I just sat there, paralyzed, staring at him and he lightly knocks on the window, and does

one of those close-fingered waves that you do to children, before he disappears.

In my head I was like, no fucking way that just happened and even if it did, I was sure

it was just one of my brothers friends pranking me but either way I wasn't gonna stay in

that living room to just let them mess with me some more.

I booked it up to my room and locked the door.

My mom came home about 20 minutes later with brother, Harrison.

I asked my mom if she saw anyone out there and my brother if he intentionally had someone

mess with me but they both told me no.

Harrison really wasn't that kind of person to do something like that but I figured with

it being so close to Halloween, anything was possible.

I tried to put it out of my head, and that was that, for now.

Some insight of what happened in-between these 2 events: I'm fairly certain it wasn't

my brothers friend.

To this day I still honestly don't know who it was, or what they really looked like

but after that day I started noticing someone in the backyard.

They would just be standing there with black shoes, black pants, a black hoodie pulled

up, black gloves and I was never able to see his face, so I assume a black mask.

Each time this happened I would run and tell my mom but by the time she got there, they

were always gone.

I started getting phone calls from an unknown number around that time too of just silence,

and occasional breathing but no body ever said anything.

It only happened a few times, probably less than 20, but they would happened at random

times throughout the day and night, though mainly during light.

For a long time I was the only one who ever physically saw any of this happening because

it pretty much always happened when my I was home alone, or really late at night.

Until one day my mom, my neighbor and I were on the porch talking when I asked him if he

ever saw anybody lingering around our backyard.

My mom was quickly like "Mila!" because I guess she didn't want me to sound crazy

to the neighbor, since I kept saying all this was happening and she never saw the guy, I

mean she picked up silent phone calls but for some reason she never really believed

me about the guy in the backyard.

But to my surprise, he told me he did.

He ending up telling my mom and I that he was sitting on his back porch (next to ours)

with his girlfriend when a man, all in black, came out from behind a tree.

He started walking, and then running towards them, when my neighbor, who had a license

to carry, pulled out his firearm and told the guy to stop running.

The man didn't stop.

Matt (the neighbor) shot at the ground and the guy finally stopped, he turned around

and started running in the opposite direction, tripping over a branch and then getting up

and disappearing.

I felt so relieved thinking that had to be the guy and that surely now he'd never come

back but, of course, that's not how it happened.

Now before I get back to it, let me explain.

My mom didn't frequently leave me home alone, a lot of the time I was left with my brother,

who was 7 years older than me, or a family member but there were few times where my mom

had work, went shopping, or went out that I would elect to stay on my own rather than

tag along or go somewhere else.

So on this night, I was home alone once more.

I was in the living room, and because things had sort of died down a bit with the man in

the backyard, I felt comfortable enough to sit in my living room and watch some tv again.

This time I can't remember what I was watching but just like the first.

fucking.

time.

something black flashed by the window.

At this point I was like "nu-huh this can't be happening again" and I didn't immediately

want to call my mom and ruin her night if it turned out to not be that big of a deal,

so I just stared intently at the window just waiting for him to pop-up like he did last

time.

During what felt like an eternity, and was probably only 5 minutes, I had muted my tv.

There was an eery silence like in those action movies where they're like "It's quiet...

too quiet", at that moment I could probably hear a pin drop.

But instead I began to hear my backdoor rattle slightly.

My heart dropped and started racing, it felt like it was gonna leap out of my chest.

BANG.

They were trying to break down the door.

From where I was, whoever was at the backdoor, couldn't see me.

As I heard my door being broken into, my fight or flight response must've kicked in and

I grabbed my phone, unlocked my front door, and hauled ass across the street.

I started bawling my eyes out as I ran down random side streets and alleyways to get as

far away from my house as possible- I ended up sitting under a lamplight, pretty much

on the other side of town.

I called my mom and her boyfriend, Kyle, but they could barely understand me as I was blabbering

so much.

When I was finally able to calm down, I explained to them what happened and where I was and

they immediately came and picked me up.

In the car, I felt so much safer.

Kyle was a big guy, he did construction, and worked on houses, he had muscle and he was

a scary dude if you didn't know him.

When we got home, Kyle went in first.

He told us to stay in the car and from inside the house he yelled out that the backdoor

was wide open.

He went room-to-room, floor-to-floor of our house, searched our backyard, shed, everything,

but whoever it was was gone.

My mom later tried to comfort me and say maybe it was our cat, but we both know that it wasn't

the cat.

Our backdoor is pretty hard to get into, and that fucker was wide open.

I saw the guy in our yard a few times after that, always just standing there in one spot,

and I started sleeping with a knife secretly tucked away by my bed.

But eventually he stopped coming around.

It took a while, but he did, and luckily nothing like that ever happened again.

I think it's also very important to add that nothing had been stolen from my house

that night.

There were no drawers open, and the door to my basement is right across from the backdoor,

it's often kept open and it had some pretty expensive equipment down there but it wasn't

even touched.

So because nothing from my house was taken, we didn't call the cops because like I said,

for a long time my mom didn't believe me, and once she did, we had no evidence and eventually

it all just stopped anyway.

To this day, I have no idea what that man wanted, or why he tried to break into my house,

but my mind continues to come up with some ideas.

I was only 10 or 11 years old at the time it all started and I was probably around 12

or 13 when he tried to break in, both times I was home alone.

I'm almost 20 now and although I don't really think about this too much anymore,

I still always find myself watching the window and the backdoor of my house.

Sometimes I still get that eery feeling when I'm home alone but I can probably blame

this subreddit for that, I'm sure he's been gone a long time now.

Though, I don't think I'll ever be able to go into the backyard alone.

This is the point of view of myself, dad, and my sister.

This was about 2 years ago I was 16, it was Monday morning like around 6 am.

My dad, two sisters, and myself were at home sleeping while my mom was out at the gym.

My sister had heard someone ring the doorbell, she was about to get up and answer it when

she heard my dads footsteps heading towards the door so she went back to sleep.

That's when she heard my dads footsteps go from walking to pacing back and forth around

the house.

She heard my dad talking to the cops saying that someone was on our front lawn and asking

if they can come get him.

Fast forward to almost a half hour later and that's when I woke up to my dad screaming,

at first I was thinking that my parents were fighting but then I heard a window break from

my parents room.

That's when I got up from my bed, got a bat and went out and just as I was getting out

from my room and my dad closing his door to his room I saw this huge guy (he reminded

me of Mr.T) climbing inside through the window.

As my dad was shutting the door he put his feet up against a file cabinet we have and

his back towards the door with a katana samurai sword in hand(avid knife and sword collector)

keeping the guy out of the rest of the house.

While my dad was doing this he was talking(screaming)to the 911 operator saying that this was the

3rd time he had called the cops and nobody had shown up and the guy was inside our house.

I told my dad to give me the phone because I was a little more calm and I answered the

questions of the operator.

That's when the guy started pushing against the door trying to get through and my dad

told me to get back and protect my sisters if the guy were to get through, so I did.

Luckily the mad had stopped pushing the door and the cops at last got there.

Two cops went inside the room with tasers drawn and told the man to get on the floor,

he just looked at them and started walking towards them and that's when the cops fired

their tasers and all the guy did was look at the darts and say "ow" and then proceeded

to take them off.

At the end the cops were able to talk him down and get him in cuffs. The cops told us

he might've been on PCP and was just looking for a place to sleep because he only had on

shoes and shorts. What my dad told us afterwards was that the man had opened the side door

and went around back and went inside the dogs house to sleep (we used to have a big husky

b4 he passed) and then afterwards got my scooter I had left outside and smashed my parents

window.

He climbed in and got my moms IPad and went onto YouTube looking at the most popular vids.

My mom got home to a scene of 6 squad cars and 2 firetrucks outside of the house.

What's crazy is that my dad was going to go the gym as well but he got lazy and slept

in.

I don't know what would've happened if my dad wasn't there but I am grateful he was.

Also glad the man didn't break in through the front because then we would've have had

to fight to guy since he would've been near my sisters room.

When they were taking him out the cops and paramedics saw that he was too big to fit

with the gurney so they told him he was gonna have to walk and he says, "aaww man you gon

make me walk?!". I don't know what exactly happened to him afterwards...

How A CPU Works (Hardware + Software Parallelism) - Duration: 8:38.

Hi, thanks for tuning into Singularity

Prosperity. This video is the third in a

multi-part series discussing computing.

In this video, we'll be discussing

classical computing, more specifically -

how the CPU operates and CPU parallelism.

[Music]

In the previous video in this series we

discussed the shrinking of the

transistor, allowing for more powerful

and efficient computers, as well as the

end of Moore's Law based on the

miniaturization of the transistor within

the next seven to ten years. Be sure to

check it out for some background context

for this video. Now in that video when

referring to computing performance, we

were focused on classical computing

based on the CPU. Classical computing, is

essentially the digital computer, almost

every computing device on the market

today is a classical computer. Classical

computers operate in serial, in other

words, as mentioned in the first video in

the series, Computing Origins, executing

various instructions extremely fast in

'order', but to the average user it appears to

be running them in parallel, meaning

multiple instructions at a time.

This is due to many hardware and

software optimizations to allow for

asynchronous operation. By the end of

this video the distinction between

parallel and asynchronous operation will

become clear, but first let's see how the

classical computer works. As a disclaimer:

the concepts we will be discussing are

an over generalization of computing

architecture, but for the sake of getting

an abstracted understanding of classical

computing functionality will serve well.

Alright so first let's bring in the

central processing unit, the CPU is the

brains of the computer. Let's also bring

in memory, the RAM, this is where the CPU

accesses stored information it needs. Now

the CPU also has built-in memory, this is

called the cache. The cache is considerably

smaller than the RAM, with sizes ranging

in the order of 32 kilobytes to 8

megabytes. The purpose of the cache is to

give the CPU the information it needs

immediately. The CPU and RAM are separate

objects, so when the CPU needs

information, it takes time, albeit a

very small amount of time to read the

data from the memory.

This time can add considerable delay to

computer operation. With the cache being

right on the CPU reduces this time to

almost nothing. The reason why you don't

need much cache storage is because it

just needs to store little bits of

important information that the CPU will

need to use soon or has been using a lot

of recently. There are various

methods implemented to determine what

goes on to the cache, what should be kept

on the cache and when it should be

written back on to the RAM. In a typical

CPU there are various levels of cache,

each with different read and write times

and sizes, for the sake of simplicity

we'll assume a single cache for our CPU.

So now with the basic components out of

the way, let's get into how the computer

operates. When a CPU executes an

instruction there are five basic steps

that need to be completed:

1) Fetch: Get the instruction from the

memory and store in the cache in some

cases. 2) Decode: Get the appropriate

variables needed for the execution of

the instruction. 3) Execute: Compute the

result of the instruction. 4) Memory: For

instructions that require a memory read/

write operation to be done. 5) Write Back:

Write the results of the instruction

back into memory.

Nearly every instruction goes through

the first three and final step, only

certain instructions go through the

memory steps such as load and stores but

for the sake of simplicity we'll assume

every instruction requires all five

steps. Now each step takes one clock

cycle, this translates to a CPI, clock

cycles per instruction, of five. As a note,

most modern processors can execute

billions of clock cycles per second, for

example, a 3.4 gigahertz processor can

execute 3.4 billion clock cycles per

second. Now a CPI of 5 is very

inefficient, meaning the resources of the CPU

are wasted. This is why pipelining was

introduced, bringing asynchronous

operation into computing. Pipelining

essentially makes it so each step can be

executed in a different clock cycle,

translating to 5 instructions per 5

clock cycles, or in other words, one

instruction per clock cycle, a CPI of 1.

Essentially what pipelining does is take

the segmented steps of an instruction

and execute them in each clock cycle,

since the segmented steps are smaller than

the size and less complex than a normal

instruction, you can do the steps of

other instructions in the same clock

cycle. For example, if a step for one

instruction is fetching the data, you

could begin decoding another, executing

another, etc - since the hardware involved

for those steps isn't being blocked.

Superscalar pipelines add to this

performance further. Think of pipelines

as a highway, now typical lane in the

highway can execute one instruction per

clock cycle. With superscalar processors

you add more lanes to the highway, for

example, a 2 wide superscalar also

referred to as a dual issue machine, has

a theoretical CPI of 1/2, two

instructions per clock cycle. There are

various other methods implemented to

make the processor CPI more efficient,

such as: unrolling loops, very long

instruction words [VLIWs] - which are

essentially multiple instructions

wrapped into one larger instruction,

compiler scheduling an optimization -

aallowing for out of order execution and

more. There are also many issues that

come along with pipelining that decrease

CPI, such as: data hazards, memory hazards,

structural hazards and more. All these

topics are beyond the scope of this

video, but mentioned to satisfy curiosity

if you wish to know more about them.

So at this point, we now know about the

basic design of a CPU, how it

communicates with memory, the stages that

it executes instructions in, as well as

pipelining and superscalar design. Now

instead of imagining all of this as a

single CPU, let's take it further, all

this technology can be embedded on a

single core of a processor. With multiple

cores, you take the performance of a

single core and multiply it by the core

count, for example, in a quad core by four.

Multiple cores also have a shared cache

as a side note.

The use of superscalar pipelines as well

as multiple cores are considered

hardware level parallelism. The computer

industry after years of stagnation is

now beginning to divert more focus to

hardware level parallelism, by adding

more cores to processors. This can be

demonstrated by consumer processors like

AMDs Threadripper line and Intel's i9

processor line, with core counts ranging

from 8 to 16 and 10 to 18 respectively.

While these may be their higher end

consumer processor, even the low and mid

end processors from i3, i5 and i7 are

getting buffs, with core counts ranging

from quad, hex and octa core. As a side

note, supercomputers are the best

examples of utilizing hardware

parallelism. For example, Intel's Xeon Phi

and AMD's Epyc processors have core

counts ranging from 24 to 72! With

supercomputers having tens of thousands

of processors with them. Now there's

one key component that is required in

tandem with hardware parallelism to

truly use all the resources efficiently,

software parallelism. This leads us to

the final topic in classical computing

will cover, hyperthreading also referred

to as multithreading. Instead of being

implemented as hardware parallelism this

is used as higher level software

parallelism.

Think of a thread as a sequence of

instructions, now with single-threading,

that sequence of instructions just flows

through the pipeline as normal. However,

with multi-threading, you can segment

your application into many threads and

specifically choose how you want to

execute them. Multi-threading can

significantly increase computing

performance, by explicitly stating what

CPU resources you want to utilize and

when. For example, for an application, the

user interface, GUI, can be executed on

one thread while the logic is executed

on another. This is just one example of

many instances where multi-threading can

be used. Now multi-threading can't just

be used for every application. Since

classical computing isn't intrinsically

parallel, there can be a lot of issues

with concurrency, or in other words,

when multiple threads are executing at

the same time but depend on the result

of each other. Thus, some applications end

up being only single threaded. However,

many individuals and groups are working

on ways to best utilize hardware

parallelism through new software

practices and rewriting old software. For

example, the latest Firefox updates now

are bringing in multi-threading. Also

some of the most computationally

intensive tasks by default excel at

multi-threading, such as: video editing,

rendering and data processing - to list a

few. Also as exemplified by the gaming

industry, a lot of games are now moving

into multi-threaded performance.

[Music]

So, in summary, classical computing is

asynchronous not truly parallel.

Instructions are still executed in

serial, but through the use of hardware and

software level parallelism, maximize the

utilization of the resources of the

computer, making them execute extremely

fast; giving the illusion of parallel

operation. Also if you want a deeper look

into how the CPU works, I highly

recommend you check out the two videos

Volkswagen Golf VI R Buying Advice - Duration: 9:39.

This Golf R had a difficult task: succeeding the R32.

The R32 had an amazing 6-cylinder engine sound.

It's not as fast as the sound makes you think it is, but it's a good sound. That's important in a car.

This Golf VI R is the first R without a 6-cylinder engine.

It had long been speculated that this car would be called the Golf R20, but it became the Golf R.

It has a 2-liter turbo engine, but it's not the same as in the Golf GTI.

This is an upgraded version with different pistons. Many things are different, such as the turbo.

It has many more hp and tuning options. I may get back to that later.

It has 266 hp and 350 Nm (258 lb ft) torque. It's a fast car.

ENGINES gasoline

There are 2 transmissions. It does 0-100 kph (62 mph) in 5.5 seconds with the DSG.

With a manual transmission you can do this in 5.7 seconds.

There's a 3 and 5 door version and a convertible, but that one doesn't have all-wheel drive.

Basically it's a Scirocco R powertrain in a Golf convertible.

That's funny. Many of these are for sale. The Golf R convertible is a fun car.

This video is about the regular Golf R, though. Regular Golf R? It's a very special Golf.

About 20 Golf VI R are for sale on AutoTrack.

Prices start a little below 20,000 euros. It won't be a very fresh car.

The prices go up to 30,000 euros.

Of those 20 cars, many are convertibles. That surprised me.

PRICES minimum, maximum

Of course there are plenty of alternatives.

A Golf GTI gets close. It's a logical alternative if you like this body style.

That one has front-wheel drive only.

The Audi S3 has the same powertrain, but it has a nicer finish and is more expensive.

If all-wheel drive is a requirement, your choice is limited.

The Subaru Impreza is an option. A Ford Focus used to have front-wheel drive only.

BMW used to have rear-wheel drive only. Cars like these got all-wheel drive only recently.

If you want to buy one, nice. It's a fun car.

It appeals to the imagination and does so with more people,

including those with not enough money for proper car maintenance.

Check the maintenance history and what tires it has.

You have to replace the tires after a while.

I don't like that either, but worn tires happens with my lifestyle.

Sometimes they wear faster than usual.

Off-brand tires on a performance car such as this one shows maintenance hasn't been taken seriously.

Buying it was one, cool rims and stereo was two, and maintenance... Rather not.

Check if the car has been well maintained.

About the powertrain. A number of things are standard with modern cars / Golfs.

This is a 6-speed DSG, which is rather reliable.

It does have to work properly. It should shift gears smoothly. You shouldn't feel it shift gears.

Even when you're going full throttle. It should easily and seamlessly shift down a gear.

If it doesn't, something may be the matter.

A vibrating clutch with the manual transmission indicates a broken dual-mass flywheel.

That's a known issue in these videos. You'll have to replace it.

You might as well do the clutch then. These things are expensive.

This generation Golf R has no issues with the timing chain because it has a belt for the most part.

It's complicated.

That belt needs to be replaced frequently. Keep an eye on the maintenance intervals.

Does it exceed the years or the miles?

If you find a car with a good mileage and the timing belt has been replaced preventively...

This may indicate they messed with the mileage. That's something to keep an eye on.

Tuned cars... I would tune a Golf R, but do you want to buy someone else's tuning project?

Look at what and how things were done.

The crankcase ventilation can break more easily with stressed engines.

The car has Haldex all-wheel drive, which means it's front-wheel drive until it starts slipping.

It's more intelligent than that, but grosso modo.

The Haldex pump can break, especially in the early models. That'd be 2010.

You can test this in a low gear, first or second, and go full throttle.

If you feel and hear wheelspin, the Haldex pump is a suspect.

The body and interior. This is a sturdy generation of Golfs.

That's because the Golf VI is a big facelift of the Golf V.

It has better materials and it lasts longer.

They took a second step in development. You notice this with a number of things.

This also means that the interior has to look good.

It should match the mileage. Not much wears quickly in the interior.

The body. Check for damages. These are cars with potential and younger drivers.

Of course there are older drivers too.

Things can go wrong.

In this weather, the drains in the doors can get clogged.

You can open them up with a wooden skewer.

Life tips. The suspension is rather sturdy as well.

Check for sounds. Creaking often indicates ball joints.

These can break at a low mileage, so keep an eye on that.

The electronics. It's getting boring, but there aren't many problems.

Check everything, such as the sunroof. I won't try in this weather, but it should work.

Check all the electronics. Pay extra attention to the satnav.

It's wanted by those who prefer not to pay for it.

It's so wanted that there's a special lock to make sure it doesn't get stolen.

Unfortunately it happens a lot.

We found this Golf VI R at Hamilton Automobielen in Eindhoven.

He has many Golf GTI and Golf R. It's his thing.

This car has been sold. That's a shame, because it's a pretty one.

The color combination may be a bit boring, but many people like black inside and out.

This is a good car with DSG.

True Scary Stories From Reddit | Home Alone/He Broke In Our House - Duration: 14:04.

I was in the 5th grade when all this started.

Now, let me first say, there were many events that happened from when I was in the 5th grade

to about 8th, but I'm only really gonna talk about two.

Someone knocked on the door.

Back then, my neighborhood was considered to be pretty safe, we never locked our doors

because we never really had a reason to.

So I went to the door and I opened it, but nobody was there.

I honestly didn't think much of it, probably one of my brothers friends or something, so

I turned on the porch light and went outside.

Once again for as far as I could see, there was no one.

I went back inside and sat in the living room to watch House until my mom got home.

A half an hour goes by and I'm still sitting on the couch which on-looks my kitchen, the

kitchen window, and partly out into my backyard, though at this time it was like 8 p.m. so

it was fairly dark.

With my head facing the left side of the room watching my show, I saw something dark flash

by the window.

It was quick, and it was only out of the corner of my eye, but there was something that flashed

by the window.

A few more minutes go by, and I'm texting my best friend, Sam, I told her I thought

someone might be trying to prank me or something when I started to just feel really uneasy,

like someone was watching me.

I looked up, and I shit you not, there was the outline of a person all in black in the

fucking window.

I just sat there, paralyzed, staring at him and he lightly knocks on the window, and does

one of those close-fingered waves that you do to children, before he disappears.

In my head I was like, no fucking way that just happened and even if it did, I was sure

it was just one of my brothers friends pranking me but either way I wasn't gonna stay in

that living room to just let them mess with me some more.

I booked it up to my room and locked the door.

My mom came home about 20 minutes later with brother, Harrison.

I asked my mom if she saw anyone out there and my brother if he intentionally had someone

mess with me but they both told me no.

Harrison really wasn't that kind of person to do something like that but I figured with

it being so close to Halloween, anything was possible.

I tried to put it out of my head, and that was that, for now.

Some insight of what happened in-between these 2 events: I'm fairly certain it wasn't

my brothers friend.

To this day I still honestly don't know who it was, or what they really looked like

but after that day I started noticing someone in the backyard.

They would just be standing there with black shoes, black pants, a black hoodie pulled

up, black gloves and I was never able to see his face, so I assume a black mask.

Each time this happened I would run and tell my mom but by the time she got there, they

were always gone.

I started getting phone calls from an unknown number around that time too of just silence,

and occasional breathing but no body ever said anything.

It only happened a few times, probably less than 20, but they would happened at random

times throughout the day and night, though mainly during light.

For a long time I was the only one who ever physically saw any of this happening because

it pretty much always happened when my I was home alone, or really late at night.

Until one day my mom, my neighbor and I were on the porch talking when I asked him if he

ever saw anybody lingering around our backyard.

My mom was quickly like "Mila!" because I guess she didn't want me to sound crazy

to the neighbor, since I kept saying all this was happening and she never saw the guy, I

mean she picked up silent phone calls but for some reason she never really believed

me about the guy in the backyard.

But to my surprise, he told me he did.

He ending up telling my mom and I that he was sitting on his back porch (next to ours)

with his girlfriend when a man, all in black, came out from behind a tree.

He started walking, and then running towards them, when my neighbor, who had a license

to carry, pulled out his firearm and told the guy to stop running.

The man didn't stop.

Matt (the neighbor) shot at the ground and the guy finally stopped, he turned around

and started running in the opposite direction, tripping over a branch and then getting up

and disappearing.

I felt so relieved thinking that had to be the guy and that surely now he'd never come

back but, of course, that's not how it happened.

Now before I get back to it, let me explain.

My mom didn't frequently leave me home alone, a lot of the time I was left with my brother,

who was 7 years older than me, or a family member but there were few times where my mom

had work, went shopping, or went out that I would elect to stay on my own rather than

tag along or go somewhere else.

So on this night, I was home alone once more.

I was in the living room, and because things had sort of died down a bit with the man in

the backyard, I felt comfortable enough to sit in my living room and watch some tv again.

This time I can't remember what I was watching but just like the first.

fucking.

time.

something black flashed by the window.

At this point I was like "nu-huh this can't be happening again" and I didn't immediately

want to call my mom and ruin her night if it turned out to not be that big of a deal,

so I just stared intently at the window just waiting for him to pop-up like he did last

time.

During what felt like an eternity, and was probably only 5 minutes, I had muted my tv.

There was an eery silence like in those action movies where they're like "It's quiet...

too quiet", at that moment I could probably hear a pin drop.

But instead I began to hear my backdoor rattle slightly.

My heart dropped and started racing, it felt like it was gonna leap out of my chest.

BANG.

They were trying to break down the door.

From where I was, whoever was at the backdoor, couldn't see me.

As I heard my door being broken into, my fight or flight response must've kicked in and

I grabbed my phone, unlocked my front door, and hauled ass across the street.

I started bawling my eyes out as I ran down random side streets and alleyways to get as

far away from my house as possible- I ended up sitting under a lamplight, pretty much

on the other side of town.

I called my mom and her boyfriend, Kyle, but they could barely understand me as I was blabbering

so much.

When I was finally able to calm down, I explained to them what happened and where I was and

they immediately came and picked me up.

In the car, I felt so much safer.

Kyle was a big guy, he did construction, and worked on houses, he had muscle and he was

a scary dude if you didn't know him.

When we got home, Kyle went in first.

He told us to stay in the car and from inside the house he yelled out that the backdoor

was wide open.

He went room-to-room, floor-to-floor of our house, searched our backyard, shed, everything,

but whoever it was was gone.

My mom later tried to comfort me and say maybe it was our cat, but we both know that it wasn't

the cat.

Our backdoor is pretty hard to get into, and that fucker was wide open.

I saw the guy in our yard a few times after that, always just standing there in one spot,

and I started sleeping with a knife secretly tucked away by my bed.

But eventually he stopped coming around.

It took a while, but he did, and luckily nothing like that ever happened again.

I think it's also very important to add that nothing had been stolen from my house

that night.

There were no drawers open, and the door to my basement is right across from the backdoor,

it's often kept open and it had some pretty expensive equipment down there but it wasn't

even touched.

So because nothing from my house was taken, we didn't call the cops because like I said,

for a long time my mom didn't believe me, and once she did, we had no evidence and eventually

it all just stopped anyway.

To this day, I have no idea what that man wanted, or why he tried to break into my house,

but my mind continues to come up with some ideas.

I was only 10 or 11 years old at the time it all started and I was probably around 12

or 13 when he tried to break in, both times I was home alone.

I'm almost 20 now and although I don't really think about this too much anymore,

I still always find myself watching the window and the backdoor of my house.

Sometimes I still get that eery feeling when I'm home alone but I can probably blame

this subreddit for that, I'm sure he's been gone a long time now.

Though, I don't think I'll ever be able to go into the backyard alone.

This is the point of view of myself, dad, and my sister.

This was about 2 years ago I was 16, it was Monday morning like around 6 am.

My dad, two sisters, and myself were at home sleeping while my mom was out at the gym.

My sister had heard someone ring the doorbell, she was about to get up and answer it when

she heard my dads footsteps heading towards the door so she went back to sleep.

That's when she heard my dads footsteps go from walking to pacing back and forth around

the house.

She heard my dad talking to the cops saying that someone was on our front lawn and asking

if they can come get him.

Fast forward to almost a half hour later and that's when I woke up to my dad screaming,

at first I was thinking that my parents were fighting but then I heard a window break from

my parents room.

That's when I got up from my bed, got a bat and went out and just as I was getting out

from my room and my dad closing his door to his room I saw this huge guy (he reminded

me of Mr.T) climbing inside through the window.

As my dad was shutting the door he put his feet up against a file cabinet we have and

his back towards the door with a katana samurai sword in hand(avid knife and sword collector)

keeping the guy out of the rest of the house.

While my dad was doing this he was talking(screaming)to the 911 operator saying that this was the

3rd time he had called the cops and nobody had shown up and the guy was inside our house.

I told my dad to give me the phone because I was a little more calm and I answered the

questions of the operator.

That's when the guy started pushing against the door trying to get through and my dad

told me to get back and protect my sisters if the guy were to get through, so I did.

Luckily the mad had stopped pushing the door and the cops at last got there.

Two cops went inside the room with tasers drawn and told the man to get on the floor,

he just looked at them and started walking towards them and that's when the cops fired

their tasers and all the guy did was look at the darts and say "ow" and then proceeded

to take them off.

At the end the cops were able to talk him down and get him in cuffs. The cops told us

he might've been on PCP and was just looking for a place to sleep because he only had on

shoes and shorts. What my dad told us afterwards was that the man had opened the side door

and went around back and went inside the dogs house to sleep (we used to have a big husky

b4 he passed) and then afterwards got my scooter I had left outside and smashed my parents

window.

He climbed in and got my moms IPad and went onto YouTube looking at the most popular vids.

My mom got home to a scene of 6 squad cars and 2 firetrucks outside of the house.

What's crazy is that my dad was going to go the gym as well but he got lazy and slept

in.

I don't know what would've happened if my dad wasn't there but I am grateful he was.

Also glad the man didn't break in through the front because then we would've have had

to fight to guy since he would've been near my sisters room.

When they were taking him out the cops and paramedics saw that he was too big to fit

with the gurney so they told him he was gonna have to walk and he says, "aaww man you gon

make me walk?!". I don't know what exactly happened to him afterwards...

How A CPU Works (Hardware + Software Parallelism) - Duration: 8:38.

Hi, thanks for tuning into Singularity

Prosperity. This video is the third in a

multi-part series discussing computing.

In this video, we'll be discussing

classical computing, more specifically -

how the CPU operates and CPU parallelism.

[Music]

In the previous video in this series we

discussed the shrinking of the

transistor, allowing for more powerful

and efficient computers, as well as the

end of Moore's Law based on the

miniaturization of the transistor within

the next seven to ten years. Be sure to

check it out for some background context

for this video. Now in that video when

referring to computing performance, we

were focused on classical computing

based on the CPU. Classical computing, is

essentially the digital computer, almost

every computing device on the market

today is a classical computer. Classical

computers operate in serial, in other

words, as mentioned in the first video in

the series, Computing Origins, executing

various instructions extremely fast in

'order', but to the average user it appears to

be running them in parallel, meaning

multiple instructions at a time.

This is due to many hardware and

software optimizations to allow for

asynchronous operation. By the end of

this video the distinction between

parallel and asynchronous operation will

become clear, but first let's see how the

classical computer works. As a disclaimer:

the concepts we will be discussing are

an over generalization of computing

architecture, but for the sake of getting

an abstracted understanding of classical

computing functionality will serve well.

Alright so first let's bring in the

central processing unit, the CPU is the

brains of the computer. Let's also bring

in memory, the RAM, this is where the CPU

accesses stored information it needs. Now

the CPU also has built-in memory, this is

called the cache. The cache is considerably

smaller than the RAM, with sizes ranging

in the order of 32 kilobytes to 8

megabytes. The purpose of the cache is to

give the CPU the information it needs

immediately. The CPU and RAM are separate

objects, so when the CPU needs

information, it takes time, albeit a

very small amount of time to read the

data from the memory.

This time can add considerable delay to

computer operation. With the cache being

right on the CPU reduces this time to

almost nothing. The reason why you don't

need much cache storage is because it

just needs to store little bits of

important information that the CPU will

need to use soon or has been using a lot

of recently. There are various

methods implemented to determine what

goes on to the cache, what should be kept

on the cache and when it should be

written back on to the RAM. In a typical

CPU there are various levels of cache,

each with different read and write times

and sizes, for the sake of simplicity

we'll assume a single cache for our CPU.

So now with the basic components out of

the way, let's get into how the computer

operates. When a CPU executes an

instruction there are five basic steps

that need to be completed:

1) Fetch: Get the instruction from the

memory and store in the cache in some

cases. 2) Decode: Get the appropriate

variables needed for the execution of

the instruction. 3) Execute: Compute the

result of the instruction. 4) Memory: For

instructions that require a memory read/

write operation to be done. 5) Write Back:

Write the results of the instruction

back into memory.

Nearly every instruction goes through

the first three and final step, only

certain instructions go through the

memory steps such as load and stores but

for the sake of simplicity we'll assume

every instruction requires all five

steps. Now each step takes one clock

cycle, this translates to a CPI, clock

cycles per instruction, of five. As a note,

most modern processors can execute

billions of clock cycles per second, for

example, a 3.4 gigahertz processor can

execute 3.4 billion clock cycles per

second. Now a CPI of 5 is very

inefficient, meaning the resources of the CPU

are wasted. This is why pipelining was

introduced, bringing asynchronous

operation into computing. Pipelining

essentially makes it so each step can be

executed in a different clock cycle,

translating to 5 instructions per 5

clock cycles, or in other words, one

instruction per clock cycle, a CPI of 1.

Essentially what pipelining does is take

the segmented steps of an instruction

and execute them in each clock cycle,

since the segmented steps are smaller than

the size and less complex than a normal

instruction, you can do the steps of

other instructions in the same clock

cycle. For example, if a step for one

instruction is fetching the data, you

could begin decoding another, executing

another, etc - since the hardware involved

for those steps isn't being blocked.

Superscalar pipelines add to this

performance further. Think of pipelines

as a highway, now typical lane in the

highway can execute one instruction per

clock cycle. With superscalar processors

you add more lanes to the highway, for

example, a 2 wide superscalar also

referred to as a dual issue machine, has

a theoretical CPI of 1/2, two

instructions per clock cycle. There are

various other methods implemented to

make the processor CPI more efficient,

such as: unrolling loops, very long

instruction words [VLIWs] - which are

essentially multiple instructions

wrapped into one larger instruction,

compiler scheduling an optimization -

aallowing for out of order execution and

more. There are also many issues that

come along with pipelining that decrease

CPI, such as: data hazards, memory hazards,

structural hazards and more. All these

topics are beyond the scope of this

video, but mentioned to satisfy curiosity

if you wish to know more about them.

So at this point, we now know about the

basic design of a CPU, how it

communicates with memory, the stages that

it executes instructions in, as well as

pipelining and superscalar design. Now

instead of imagining all of this as a

single CPU, let's take it further, all

this technology can be embedded on a

single core of a processor. With multiple

cores, you take the performance of a

single core and multiply it by the core

count, for example, in a quad core by four.

Multiple cores also have a shared cache

as a side note.

The use of superscalar pipelines as well

as multiple cores are considered

hardware level parallelism. The computer

industry after years of stagnation is

now beginning to divert more focus to

hardware level parallelism, by adding

more cores to processors. This can be

demonstrated by consumer processors like

AMDs Threadripper line and Intel's i9

processor line, with core counts ranging

from 8 to 16 and 10 to 18 respectively.

While these may be their higher end

consumer processor, even the low and mid

end processors from i3, i5 and i7 are

getting buffs, with core counts ranging

from quad, hex and octa core. As a side

note, supercomputers are the best

examples of utilizing hardware

parallelism. For example, Intel's Xeon Phi

and AMD's Epyc processors have core

counts ranging from 24 to 72! With

supercomputers having tens of thousands

of processors with them. Now there's

one key component that is required in

tandem with hardware parallelism to

truly use all the resources efficiently,

software parallelism. This leads us to

the final topic in classical computing

will cover, hyperthreading also referred

to as multithreading. Instead of being

implemented as hardware parallelism this

is used as higher level software

parallelism.

Think of a thread as a sequence of

instructions, now with single-threading,

that sequence of instructions just flows

through the pipeline as normal. However,

with multi-threading, you can segment

your application into many threads and

specifically choose how you want to

execute them. Multi-threading can

significantly increase computing

performance, by explicitly stating what

CPU resources you want to utilize and

when. For example, for an application, the

user interface, GUI, can be executed on

one thread while the logic is executed

on another. This is just one example of

many instances where multi-threading can

be used. Now multi-threading can't just

be used for every application. Since

classical computing isn't intrinsically

parallel, there can be a lot of issues

with concurrency, or in other words,

when multiple threads are executing at

the same time but depend on the result

of each other. Thus, some applications end

up being only single threaded. However,

many individuals and groups are working

on ways to best utilize hardware

parallelism through new software

practices and rewriting old software. For

example, the latest Firefox updates now

are bringing in multi-threading. Also

some of the most computationally

intensive tasks by default excel at

multi-threading, such as: video editing,

rendering and data processing - to list a

few. Also as exemplified by the gaming

industry, a lot of games are now moving

into multi-threaded performance.

[Music]

So, in summary, classical computing is

asynchronous not truly parallel.

Instructions are still executed in

serial, but through the use of hardware and

software level parallelism, maximize the

utilization of the resources of the

computer, making them execute extremely

fast; giving the illusion of parallel

operation. Also if you want a deeper look

into how the CPU works, I highly

recommend you check out the two videos

But Pratt slowly built up his career with regular roles on TV and supporting roles in

big-screen productions before earning his spot on the top.

Throughout it all, Pratt has proven to be a charming, entertaining, and most of all,

hilarious guy.

Here are some times that the camera captured him on movie and TV sets goofing off, screwing

up, and ad-libbing.

The O.C.

One of Pratt's earliest roles was playing Ché on Fox's teen soap The O.C..

And while the part mostly required him to act like a burnout, he did seem to have a

lot of fun with it … until he had to eat on-camera, that is.

In one scene, he was supposed to be giving sage advice to Seth Cohen while eating a bowl

of figs.

And it probably would've gone off without a hitch if Pratt hadn't grabbed a spoiled

piece of fruit.

"I'm sorry.

This one's a bad one."

What's Your Number?

Wearing a fat suit might hinder some actors' ability to bust a move, but that wasn't the

case for Chris Pratt.

In What's Your Number?, Pratt had to bulk up a bit, but he still managed to bust out

some impressively accurate Michael Jackson dance moves that were totally uninhibited

by the extra poundage.

He should put that on his resume.

Parks and Recreation

Pratt didn't come out of nowhere to become the biggest action hero working today.

Before he started saving the world, he was best known for his supporting role in NBC

comedy Parks and Recreation.

But the inklings of a hero were still present in his role as the dumb but eager man-child

Andy Dwyer.

In this outtake, Pratt rapidly hurdled over a counter and then ditched a briefcase his

character didn't need to steal by throwing it back from where he got it.

Amazingly, the case nailed a light switch — and left the actors in the dark.

"F------ hilarious."

"That's not something that props can fix.

Sorry.

I'm out."

Delivery Man

Even though Chris Pratt was on the cusp of mega success when he starred in this 2013

comedy, he was still pretty hungry.

At least, that's all we can assume from watching this outtake of him chasing a wad of cash

from blowing away in the wind.

"Why not is that too real?

Is that too real?"

Jurassic World

Pratt's character, Owen, can do a lot of things.

He can ride a motorcycle, he can tame velociraptors, and he can even make the T-Rex look like a

good guy.

But acting out one of Owen's talents in particular gave Chris Pratt some trouble on the set.

While his character was capable of doing crazy things, Pratt had a lot of trouble whistling

— and the behind-the-scenes footage of his repeated failed efforts made for some great

B-roll.

"I'll get it."

Guardians of the Galaxy

Flying a spaceship is fun, and it would seem that even pretending to fly a spaceship is

also a thrill, because on the set of Guardians of the Galaxy, Pratt got a little carried

away behind the controls of the mighty Milano.

The filmmakers probably only really needed a second or two of Star-Lord looking excited,

but Pratt got downright maniacal with his unbridled glee.

"Hahaha!"

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

The Guardians returned for some more outer space adventures in Guardians of the Galaxy

Vol. 2, but they weren't alone.

A few new characters came along, including an ageless Celestial named Ego, who was also

Star-Lord's father, played by Kurt Russell.

Because the movie was set on several distant planets, gravity wasn't always a given.

So to replicate that, the actors had to endure a lot of "wire work."

And in this outtake from the movie, Pratt and Russell had a hard time getting the "hang"

of things.

"I think we got it."

The film also presented another all-star blooper when we were introduced to the High Priestess

of the Sovereigns.

She tried to chat up the Star-Lord about breeding techniques, and she got this as an explanation

of how earthlings do it:

"I personally control half the DNA by doing something I call doinking."

Passengers

For a large portion his other space movie Passengers, Chris Pratt wandered around a

gigantic ship almost entirely by himself.

His only "human" interaction was with an android bartender named Arthur, played by Michael

Sheen.

Arthur provided drinks and a little bit of companionship…and since there wasn't much

else to do, Pratt's character was a patron of the pub quite often.

In this outtake, Pratt got a chance to do some "drunk acting," and he comically over-reacted

to Arthur's boozy blue concoction...

"There's coconut in it?"

It's amazing none of these moments made into the movies, really.

You've Been Eating Spinach Wrong... And This Could Harm Your Kidneys! - Duration: 2:33.

If you've ever eaten spinach thinking that it would make you as strong as him, you should

know that this vegetable can actually bring you more harm than benefits, if it's consumed

in the wrong way.

The spinach myth started a long time ago, in 1870, with the American researcher Dr.

E. Von Wolf.

One of his articles was published with a typo: the number that indicated the amount of iron

present in spinach was missing a decimal point.

It made it seem as if spinach contained ten times more iron than it actually does.

The typo was fixed after a few decades, but by then the myth had already spread.

Iron is a very important mineral for our bodies and when we don't eat enough of it, we may

get anemia associated with an iron deficiency.

It's a disease that normally makes people lose their appetite, feel tired, look pale,

lose their desire to work, and have difficulties learning.

Not only does spinach not contain as much iron as people thought, it also has a substance

called oxalic acid, that keeps your body from absorbing iron, causing it to be eliminated

through your bowel movements.

A large quantity of this acid in your blood could even contribute to the formation of

kidney stones, and other disorders—especially in your liver.

So anyone with kidney problems or rheumatoid arthritis should avoid consuming large quantities

of this acid.

Apart from this, some nutritionists say that cooked spinach should be consumed immediately,

because if you keep it in the refrigerator, it may start to produce toxic substances.

Now that you know the truth about spinach, you may feel tempted to cut it completely

out of your diet, but we aren't through yet.

Popeye's favorite food contains anti-oxidant substances, as well as several vitamins.

A cup of raw spinach can give you your daily intake of vitamin A, and half of the recommended

daily allowance of vitamin C. You still need to be careful when you eat spinach.

Consume it in moderation, and don't overdo it— especially with small children.

In order to better benefit from spinach, eat it raw or lightly steamed.

Tips For When You Feel Like Your Life Is Over Because Nothing Is Going Right - Duration: 2:48.

What I'm about to say to you, I'm going to say with a whole lot of love: Ruminating

on everything that has gone wrong in your life, including the bad relationship you were

in for way too long or the great business opportunity you didn't take, can leave you

feeling disappointed in yourself, let down by others and maybe even feeling hopeless.

You can keep thinking about how you should have done this or that differently but in

the end, it doesn't change anything.

Here are some mental adjustments that you want to make if you want to get past these

useless ways of thinking:

1.

Stop acting as though your life is over.

People live much longer lives than before.

It makes no difference how old you are.

The more you spend time thinking that your life is over, the more it becomes your reality

because you make it that way.

2.Some of the things you experienced were probably out of your control so stop blaming

yourself for them.

Instead of thinking, "Why me."

See it for what it is.

Things happen to everybody.

What happened is just what happened.

Stop personalizing it.

3.

Let's be honest, other things were in your control and you probably did make mistakes.

So for example, nobody forced you to stay decades in a relationship that wasn't working.

We all make decisions for different reasons.

It's important to accept responsibility for your own actions.

Only you know why you did or allowed what you allowed.

It's important that you become at peace with that so that you can move on from those

past experiences and instead of seeing them as failures, see them as learning experiences

and actually learn from them.

So for example, don't get yourself in a new relationship where you experience the

same issues again.

4.

Focus on creating the life you want to live now.

Create a plan and start taking action.

When things don't go as planned, keep notes on what happened so that you can better fine

tune your approach and keep going.

A new approach can make a world of a difference.

It's much better to be somebody who does things, fails, learns and then keeps working

on their goals than to be a person who does nothing because there is a high chance that

the person that keep persistently working towards their goals will either ultimately

reach their goals or come across something even better in their life.

I've found that life can take you on roads that you never saw coming so you never know

what is up ahead.

That's why it's imperative that you have a strong yet flexible mind.

The more you embrace life's imperfections as well as your own and fine tune your approach,

the more happiness and success you will open yourself up to.
