in this video tutorial we are talking about all varieies of Anubias Plants
It comes from the Araceae family and comes from Africa
Cameroon, Nigeria, and Congo
They exist in various sizes and different varieties
The Anubias are the most known and used plants in the world of the aquariums
for their beauty and ease of maintenance
they are generally dark green with heart-shaped leaves with slightly wavy edges
They are epiphytes and therefore possess a rhizome from which extend the stems and roots
that have the particularity of attaching themselves to furniture
such as woods or stones
so be careful not to bury the rhizome because it may rot
we can only plant the roots
Depending on the species and the proportion of the tank
they can be used both as background plants and as foreground plants
since their growth will be slow and will remain at the level of when purchased
remember to place them in shaded areas
becaouse they are subject to algae formation if exposed to direct light
It is not easily eaten by phytophagous fish, so it is also compatible with African cichlids
such as Pelvicacrhomis or Goldfish, and Discus
they are also very resistant to high temperatures above 26 ° Celsius
those are the most popular vaieties of Anubias
Anubias Gigantea:
The Gigantea variety, as we can deduce from the name, is the largest of all
derives from the West of Africa
and is certainly a plant to be placed on the background in a tank
since it will reach even 30/40 cm in height
need a medium light and its growth is very slow, like all the other variety
Anubias Barteri
This variety derives from the West of Africa and is one of the largest
so as to consider medium or background plant
needs a medium light and reaches 20 - 30 cm in height
Anubias Coffefolia:
This plant comes from the West of Africa
has a slow growth but comes from an average height, around 15/20 cm
is therefore to be considered a plant for the medium or background
needs little light, otherwise it could form algae on the surface of the leaves
This type is characterized by a very dark color and a very wavy leaf
among all the varieties it is the one that needs less light
Anubias Congensis:
This kind derives from the West of Africa
reaches a medium height and is therefore to be considered
a plant for the medium or foreground depending on the tank used here
reaches the maximum height of 10/15 cm and requires a quantity of average light
even if its growth will be slow
The main feature of this variety is the slightly more elongated shape of the leaf compared to the others
Anubias Gracilis:
This variety is distinguished from the others by the shape of its leaves
very triangular and spear-shaped
can grow up to 20/30 cm in height
so it is considered a plant for the medium or background depending on the aquarium in which it is used
It needs a medium light for its growth that will be slow like all the other varieties
Anubias Longifolia:
This variety of Anubias is distinguished from the others by the particularity of its leaves
that when they grow, will tend to have a more elongated shape than the others
comes from the west of Africa and needs a medium amount of light
its growth will be slow but it will reach 20/25 cm in height
so you can use it as a medium or background plant in the tank
Anubias Nana:
The Anubias Nana variety comes from the Cameroon in Africa
is very small in nature both in terms of leaves
both in terms of total size
is generally used for decorations of foreground
since it reaches 5/10 cm maximum height
It does not need a lot of light
rather it should be positioned in areas of shadow if you want to avoid the formation of algae on its leaves
its growth is slow like all the others kinds
Anubias Nana "Round Leaf":
This variety, as we can understand from the name
derives from the selection in cultivation of the Anubias Nana
has the particularity of being very small and of having the leaves of a round shape
it reaches a maximum of 5/10 cm in height
does not require much light and is generally used for the foreground
its growth will be slow and should be positioned on furnishings mainly in shaded areas
Anubias Nana "Marina":
This variety derives from the selection of Anubias Nana
it is a plant with reduced dimensions, it reaches a maximum of 5/10 cm
and is therefore often used for decorations on the foreground
it does not need strong light
rather it is placed in shaded areas if possible to avoid the formation of algae on the leaves
the growth is slow
The "marine" truth is a clone produced by Troplant
it has the particularity of growing very compact with narrow and pointed leaves
Anubias Bonsai:
This variety comes from the selection of some crops
and is particular for its very small size
it is the smallest of all and therefore to be considered a plant fore the foreground
because it has very small leaves and reaches the maximum height of 5 cm
It requires not much light and its growth is very slow
talking about reproduction
If we want to multiply the plant
we must cut the rhizome but pay attention that the removed part has at least of 3/4 leaves
so that it can start again and continue to grow
Sexual reproduction occurs only if the flower is produced and emerges from the water for pollination
but in home aquariums it is very difficult
The Anubias are generally very easy to manage
because they do not need strong fertilization either dissolved in water
or on the ground by fertile soils
besides it does not need strong lighting or Co2 carbon dioxide supplement to be able to grow up
It will therefore be necessary to provide liquid fertilizer in a moderate and constant manner
generally consisting of a base of bivalent chelated iron and manganese
to avoid the appearance of yellow spots on the leaves (chlorosis)
