Hi everyone, I'm Mariana. Welcome to my channel.
I think I'm running out of light in case you start seeing this a bit darker. Sorry.
Today I'll answer the Booktag of Questions made by ValeryVal
I'll add the link to her channel in the description box, if you want to check it out.
And with this booktag I hope you'll learn a bit more about me and my tastes and guilty pleasures.
So the first question is: A book which ending you'd rewrite.
Here, I didn't choose just one book, but a saga.
Because I actually like how the first book ends. And that's The Selection series. It's a trilogy.
As I said, I liked the first book's ending, but the third book's ending is very predictable.
And from the second one the story goes downhill.
And it all becomes drama and that's not what I was looking for.
I would have ended it at least on an unexpected way.
And I would have cut out the middle book, the second one was absolutely unnecessary.
It could have been condensed in just one book, and have only 2 books.
But who makes only 2 books there has to be a trilogy.
The second question is; I'm gonna keep looking down to read the question 'cause I didn't memorize them.
A book you read in a different language.
The first book I read in english, by choice, because for school I had to read some books and stories in english.
But the one I did choose because I wanted to read it
was Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
This one, in fact...
It was the first book I read in english and it was almost ending the series.
Because when I began reading Harry Potter I didn't dare to read in english.
And when I got to this one I thought: "Ok let's give it a go".
And it turned out to be quite an easy reading
and that's was when I noticed I preferred to read books in its original language.
Because sometimes the ideas the author is trying to convey get lost in translation.
And since then I love to read in english, if the original language is english.
In spanish if the original language is spanish.
And that's all, because if it's in Chinese, French, German, Russian or whatever
I'd prefer to read it in spanish, because...
If I'll read a translated book let it be in my language.
The third question is: A book that got you into the reading world.
And so I don't repeat Harry Potter, because HARRY POTTER!
I mean Harry Potter was really what got me reading, what made me love reading.
While I was still reading Harry Potter, I didn't know which other books to choose.
Because you're so invested in this magical world
and you want to keep reading similar stuff
but you end up reading books that don't match Harry Potter
and you think maybe you'll never find something you'll love the same.
So I had a period of time where I read books of different genres to know what I liked.
I read classics and I don't think I was old enough to grasp these books. Specially if they where my first books.
And suddenly I read a book I found around my house, I was drawn by the cover.
And that was Mirror Image bye Danielle Steele.
This book is for adults.
But I really liked it, and I decided that I did like to read and I was able to read more genres apart from fantasy.
The fourth question is: A book or popular saga that everyone hates but you loved.
I'm going to steal Valery's answer because I identified with it.
And that's the Twilight Saga because...
Everyone hates it because is so corny, but it's not the only thing there is.
Like Valery said on her original booktag video
There's more behind this story but everyone goes with what they saw in the movie.
Meaning the love triangle of Bella, Edward and Jacob.
And although Bella is kind of...
...submissive
And she doesn't have a lot of character development.
Doesn't matter, ignore her but look at the rest of the story.
I did like it. When I read these books I couldn't let them go. I read one after the other until I finished them.
So yeah this is my guilty pleasure.
Why deny it? I read these super fast and that was because I loved them.
The fifth question is: A book from which you learned something.
I think I'll answer with a saga I just read last year and I loved and can't believe it took me so long to read.
And that's Percy Jackson and the Olympians' series.
I thought Percy Jackson were just 5 books.
And turns out, it's these books, but also another pentalogy and then other books in the middle
and he's making another pentalogy I think or trilogy.
And wow! it was to much to absorb. but I loved that when I finished these I had more to read from this world.
And that it didn't end here.
Well, what I learned from these books.
If you don't know, Percy Jackson is about demigods. Sons and daughters from greek Gods and humans.
And so, all this saga talks about greek mythology.
And actually in the next saga it also talks about roman mythology.
But this one is about greek mythology, and I learned a lot about these myths.
Everything I knew from greek myths was mainly thanks to Hercules, Disney's movie.
We had a book here about myths and legends that my parents used to read to us when we were young.
But I never got more in depth in this world. To research more about these myths.
And Percy Jackson re-opened my eyes to this beautiful world of greek mythology. Please read them, they're beautiful.
The next question is: A book which cover you like the most.
And I chose...
...this book I found in a book fair.
Fairy Tales by Hans Christian Andersen.
Look at this cover so...
between disturbing and beautiful.
Look at that merman.
That's what drew my attention the most when I bought it.
Because all this book is filled with illustrations with that style.
Let me find one.
It's all in black and white with illustrations like this.
And I loved the cover. I love the gold, if you can see it.
And the typography they used.
The cover would be this one.
The next question is: A book you have always pending to read.
And some may want to kill me for not reading this book yet.
But that book is The labyrinth of solitude by Octavio Paz.
I mean look at this.
How come I haven't read it yet?
But here it is still pending.
It's an old edition, I had it here at home.
I guess it belongs to my dad or my mom.
Look, the pages are yellow and it smells like old book.
How can I have not read it yet?!
But yeah, I need to read it this year!
The next one is: A book that disappointed you.
And is not that I didn't like it, just that I expected more and it disappointed me in that way.
And that's Origin by Dan Brown.
Dan Brown has his fans and his haters.
And I'm a fan.
And I read this book and thought is was the same formula from all the other books.
Happens the same as always: There's Robert Langdon and a woman that helps him solve the case.
They have to riddle out mysteries, travel to places, different museums, churches.
And that's why it disappointed me, because it was nothing new.
Honestly the new part was here at the end. Where I marked what I did like.
Because it was different.
I marked it because I loved that part so much that I could read the book just in that bit.
The rest, as I've read the other books by Dan Brown, there's nothing new there.
The next question is: A book everyone has read but you.
And I don't know if EVERYONE has read it, but many have read this saga. It's also a saga.
And actually I borrowed the book from my sister's bookshelf.
From the shelf, she doesn't have a bookshelf. From the shelf of my sister.
And that's Shadow Hunters. Although I think the saga is called different.
And this is another world of different books, I think.
Honestly I don't know a lot about how much this saga contains.
And I've seen fandoms everywhere.
Usually mixed up with fandoms from: Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Hunger Games.
And I believe this would be the only one left for me to read. But the truth is...
I feel overwhelmed knowing how much there is to catch up.
That's why I don't dare to read it. Because if I start I feel it's going to be one of those sagas you can't stop reading.
And I need to make time to perform this feat of not releasing the books until you've finished everything there is published.
So this is the answer to that one.
And last: A book you haven't decided if you liked or not.
And that's The Swan Thieves by Elizabeth Kostova
I liked the journey through this book.
It was a bit slow, but it talks about paintings and that part I really liked.
And some things that happened to the characters with which I identified.
But there are also parts that were not very clear.
I think I should read it again to define if I liked it or not.
But look at this gorgeous cover.
Actually, I think I bought this book for its cover. I felt drawn to it.
And for the spine. The golden spine.
And that was all. Those were my answers to this booktag
If you want to answer them in the comments below or you have a channel and you'd like to make a video too, go ahead.
