This space is YSpace.

This is our new community engagement centre.

So with the view to the new Markham campus being built and launched in 2021, we wanted

to have an immediate space where we could have a footprint in Markham and start engaging

with the community.

So YSpace is going to be the space where we work with youth, entrepreneurs and really

with any community creative-minded individual who wants to build, create, collaborate.

So, to be able to launch this space and immediately and have 20 YRDSB students in here kicking

the tires, using all this space, writing on the white boards, writing on the windows,

and really showing how this space can be used effectively, it's hugely important.

It's hugely important to show that we now have spaces where we can engage students and

not just university students but youth as well and spaces that are going to inspire

people to be creative to want to be entrepreneurial.

I would love to see the students in this class really take their ideas forward beyond the

classroom.

If we can support those students into the ecosystem within York Region then we've

done our job - we are really going to create a society of people who are creative and innovative

whether they are working on their own businesses or whether they are working in larger organizations.

These are skills that they are going to take with them always.

I think they learn first and foremost that they don't have to do everything themselves.

They need to have a good idea.

They need to have motivation, enthusiasm and there is a support system that they can have

access to that will help them realize their ambitions.

How to cut lawn care business labor cost when maintaining shrubbery - Duration: 7:21.

hey guys Johnny with Blades of Grass Lawn Care on my last video I had a lot of

questions about plant growth regulators you guys saw me spraying plants growth

regulators and I has a couple of questions as far as does it work

I'm about to show you on my yard exactly what it looks like and give you a couple

of examples this way you guys can use it whenever you're in a situation where you

are bidding the shrubs and you're bidding the lawn this way you make a lot

more money with a little bit less work now this product is expensive depending

on what which one you use so I will try to explain as quick as possible because

I don't want to make this video too long okay

here we go okay this is a Yukon Holley as a matter of fact there is one two

three and the black here is the cold weather you just go like this and comes

right off see that so don't worry about it

so this was trimmed six months ago in September and it was sprayed

now read the container and it'll tell you exactly how much to use for the

individual plant now this one right here as you can tell this is what it looks

like when it starts to this is six months so all you do is come by and yeah

this is six months that I spray of these and you can use the granule or you can

use the liquid these are Indian hawthornes and I used granules on this and I

will put a couple of pictures out there's one and that's called Cutlass

that one is like $200 for a 50-pound bag okay so this is pretty expensive but it

will help you when it comes to your labor costs case in point

on the loropetalums they will work but not as good as the Youpon Hollies

okay these were done this is like three months ago and you see the shoots

starting to come out but it's all good it'll save you these you have to trim

every every freaking month every every month you have to

okay so again this is what they look like six months after I actually spray

them now what I'll do is the next couple of months they say no within the next

month next month or so I'll go ahead and trim it up and then spray it again and

they will stay like that and what what I love about it it will receive for

instance my photo right here it will stop the growth from where the chemical

actually touches the plant toward shrub and then the inside it'll grow from the

inside you know what I mean so all you have to do is just cut the little shoots

pop out here and there now it doesn't work that good on every plant or every

shrub so you'll have to kind of check it out you see my Bermuda guys look at that

weed free still dormant weed free but uh yeah let me show you on the lugustrums

I'll spray these again in September and everyone that deals with ligustrum will

tell you these are extremely fast growing okay and I think I sprayed these

and I found that on the gust rooms if you use a granule it'll work extremely

better than when you spray them it looks pretty good but

I think the granule will work a lot better now this is what the frost did to

my King sago palm but you know what I love about it is it'll grow from the

inside so that will be covered and once it start to grow out I just cut the top

and get rid of it but yeah um this is what I use at home and over there okay

these are some box woods let me show you the box coolers these

are box woods that I sprayed and these were sprayed four months ago so and

again guys I know everyone is not a proponent of utilizing chemicals on

their shrouds but it works for me guys it works for me okay

so yeah it looks pretty good

these boxwoods I never actually sprayed these so

yeah they're gloom right now but yeah guys um some of the some of this stuff

in the description yeah you can go ahead and check it out and see if it works for

you again if it works with some certain shrubs and it doesn't work with certain

shrubs but again guys it is uh it is a little pricey so just you know see if it

works for you or not again is a labor saver all right guys thank you for

No more Q&A videos for a while!

Hello, I'm Rogan and welcome.

I was tagged to do the Disability Misconceptions Tag by Rikki (Poynter) so that's what I'm doing today.

I will link Rikki's video down below, and the original tag which was done by Nicola, I'll link her below.

There are just five questions, so this probably will be short and sweet. Let's get started.

What is your disability and how does it impact you?

Forgive me, the lighting will change through this video because the sun is having fun with the clouds.

If it wasn't already obvious, I'm deaf. That's the only disability I have. As for how it impacts me...

In my personal, everyday life, it doesn't really impact me because most people I'm friends with and hang out

with sign. Deaf or hearing, most of them sign. So... But as for generally, work... Communication.

Communication is the biggest thing that impacts my everyday life.

If I go to a restaurant or whatever, I have to change to writing or typing on my phone what I want to order.

If a random person comes up to me on the street, talking, I don't understand. It's the little things like that.

But one big impact that it does have is it's that much harder for me to find a job.

When I apply for a job at whatever place,

I have to consider: will this workplace be willing to accommodate my deafness?

Will this be a good place for a deaf person to work? Can this job be done by a deaf person?

Generally, yes, but there are little things that come with that job that I see, that one thing I can't do.

I have to tell them, if they pick me for this job, I can't do that one thing. Like for example.

A front desk job or something. I can do most of the tasks, no problem.

Except when one, someone calls the front desk. We would have to adjust that, set up a VP number.

Or... If it's a front desk job, that means there will be people coming up.

Will the workplace be willing to let me do that?

Generally, it's not really that much of a concern but, jobs. That's the biggest impact on my life.

I still don't have a job, I've been looking for a while.

That's part of why I'm struggling to search for jobs, because I'm always second-guessing myself.

Asking all those questions, can I apply there? Will they be accepting? Always asking myself those questions.

I really need to stop listening to that voice, but it's hard.

What is the most common misconception that you experience in regards to your disability?

The most common misconception is one that I think applies to a lot of people who have disabilities,

not necessarily deaf, but any other disability. It's that we can't do anything.

It would be too much work to accommodate for our needs, when really, it's not.

In my case, often, I can do fine. I just sometimes need an interpreter, or need people to write things down.

It's not that much of a adjustment, but that's what a lot of people think.

"Oh gosh, I have to do this, this, and this." Really, it's not that bad.

Which misconception annoys you the most?

What I previously said, that's one that annoys me, but this annoys me maybe even more.

A lot of people think that deaf people are all the same. We are a HUGE community, bigger than you think.

When has a group of any size ever been all the same?

Do you do anything to combat these misconceptions?

YouTube! I also technically do a blog, technically. But those are text posts of these videos.

I've mentioned it in my videos before, but I do this because I do it to show that deaf people are just like you.

We have thoughts, we have feelings, we're just like anyone else.

What more do you think can be done to combat the misconception around your disability?

My broad answer to this is visibility. Visibility is a big thing, so two main things people can do.

First, no matter who you are, share information about disabilities. Share.

Don't just look at it and say, "Oh, that's cool. That's really cool you're doing this. Great." Then do nothing.

Share that. If you watch and do nothing, that (information) will never go anywhere.

Second, have more representation of us in media.

Whatever that is - news, TV shows, movies, books, you name it. Show us.

Yes, the deaf community has had increasing visibility. "The Silent Child" just won an Oscar. That's great!

That's one big step. There's been more plays with deaf actors in them, deaf stories.

We're having more, yes, but we need more. What we're seeing now is not all of the stories we have.

So, big answer - visibility. For any disability, not just deafness, just any disability, is visibility.

PBS Hawai'i - HIKI NŌ Episode #904 | Iao Intermediate - Maui | Chinese Lantern - Duration: 2:21.

Let there be light.

In ancient China, lanterns were used to provide light.

They were used in celebrations and worship.

Today, Chinese lanterns can be seen all over the world.

They can be used to provide elegant and charming decorations.

They can also be a nice aesthetic to any home décor.

Today, we will be crafting our very own version of the Chinese lantern.

These lanterns are an inexpensive, easy and fun way to decorate for any occasion.

The materials you will need are: two 8-1/2 by 11 pieces of paper of any color, scissors,

glue, clear tape or stapler.

When handling sharp objects, remember to exercise caution or get an adult to help you.

First, fold one paper in half lengthwise.

Use a pair of scissors to cut strips across the fold.

The distance between cuts can vary, depending on your preference.

It is important not to cut all the way across, or your lantern will fall apart.

The final strip should be cut all the way across to slightly shorten your paper.

Place a thin strip of glue vertically on one end of your uncut paper.

This will be the backing of the lantern.

Unfold the cut paper, and adhere one edge to the backing.

Push the bottom of your cut paper away from you, leaving approximately two inches of space.

Place another thin strip of glue on the backing of the paper, and press down.

Cut off the two-inch strip of paper on the bottom of your backing, and save that for

your handle.

Now, here comes the trickiest part.

Apply a line of glue on the side of your backing paper, then roll the papers into a tube, and

join them together.

You may want to secure the ends with tape or staples for extra support.

Finally, glue or tape the handle to the inside of the tube.

Place the lantern onto a flameless LED candle for the light effect.

And there you have it -- a simple Chinese lantern that you can use to decorate anything

throughout the year.

>> Well Burbank's a vibrant community, it's got a great history.

>> Burbank has unique appeal to me just because of its

access to everything Los Angeles has to offer

as well as its small-town charm and just it had everything I wanted in a town.

>> You're an hour away from the beach, you're an hour away from the mountains.

Transportation you have your planes, your airplane. You have your bus, you have

the railroad right here in Burbank.

>> It's still small town within the big city.

My wife was originally from Culver City and it's a little bit too congested and

crazy over there. You can breathe a little bit more here.

>> My favorite things about Burbank are just the people. The people that have been in this community

for years, police officers, firefighters.

>> This car gathering and cruising and hookup started in 1949.

It's been going on 66 years, it's a tradition.

>> People come here to visit with their friends and it's a

social thing for a lot of people.

>> It's gone from an agricultural, to an industrial, to a media focused community.

>> I want to be an actress and I want to do

music and definitely be in here in Burbank there's studios everywhere, from

Cartoon Network to the Nickelodeon and the Warner Brothers Studios.

>> It's always maintained this sort of small-town feel

even though it's a decent-size city, you know 100,000 people.

>> 18 schools we have, 22 parks, we have a golf course, I mean

all those things are in Burbank.

>> I grew up here in Burbank, I went to George

Washington elementary school. I've also went to Luther Middle School and Burbank

High School, and now I'm a Woodbury student at Burbank as well and I'm about

to graduate in May.

>> I love the neighborhood, everyone's super nice and it just feels like home.

>> I really actually wish that I could live in Burbank. I love the safety here.

>> I was lucky to find apartment that's close to everything I want and within my

financial means. But I would love to found something that was newer a little

bit closer to everything. I would love to be in the center of it all.

>> I love Burbank, I've been trying to relocate here for a little while now.

I kept looking here in few areas but it didn't seem like there was enough housing.

I would love to check out more places and if there was you know more stuff to

choose from that'd be great because I would love to live here.

>> I vividly remember coming to the Burbank Town Center when I was 13 with all my girlfriends.

We'd go to the food court, have dinner, walk around, go shopping.

Town Center hasn't really changed at all, it's kind of the same since you know we were kids.

>> I think the Burbank Town Center downtown

area is just a little bit disjointed.

>> In my opinion, it doesn't really have a drawing card to draw me into the center.

>> I will probably travel 30 to 45 minutes

in traffic just to go at least to one store in another mall.

>> I usually go to the Americana or The Grove just cuz they don't really have that much of a

selection here. I would love it if they kind of had a little bit more.

>> I probably like to see you a little more accessible, a little more open a little

more outdoorsy, indoor outdoorsy type feel.

>> It would be great to have just

something a little bit more local, more outdoors, somewhere and we can gather

here instead of having to go out.

>> What I would want to see Burbank in the next 10

years just it expand because this place is so beautiful and if it just grew a

little bit more and just had a little bit extra I think it would be perfect.

>> Maybe some more stores that hold more appeal to everyone.

>> I want to see why people come to Burbank. I want to see entertainment. Like where Burbank we're

by the hills, you want to see that.

>> Maybe it's an indoor outdoor kind of thing.

There's something about a street that's all light up. Shopping becomes kind of a sort

of a communal experience.

>> Something needs to draw your attention to coming into that Center.

>> I love Burbank because of the community service, the people and just the small-town field of Burbank has.

>> I love Burbank because of the diverse community.

>> I love Burbank because the depth and history of the media entertainment community.

>> I love it for all the foods, the eats, the restaurants are amazing.

>> I love Burbank because of its unique small-town charm.

When a contest ends and you're going home, it's when you stop and think

"Where am I in the rankings?"

"What do I have to do at the next stop?"

You start to focus on what's coming up ahead

So I think I only realized it after I got on the plane

and asked myself, "What's my next move?"

And I thought, "Oh, my goal has been accomplished

Now I've got to move on to the next one"

Which was to increase my seeding, because I was so far up ahead

Some people ask me, "What changed?"

There isn't a secret formula

You have to believe and have faith that it's gonna happen

And give it your best

Everyone has a different way of giving their best

Some people are more relaxed, others push harder,

some wake up early, or others don't

Go and tell to Filipe to surf before his heat

It won't work, he doesn't like it

but then he gets two 9's when he's in his heat

I believe God has a plan for my life

and the moment for it to happen was now

I grew up, gained experience with everything

And I think that was one of His plans for my life

to make sure that I would get there more mature

Not only on tour but as a person as well

That's how it works, we learn things and get more experience as we grow older

Expectations

I think I have enough experience to do well

and technique and experience in quality waves

It'll depend on how things happen

but my expectations are the best, I'm just not gonna promise anything

but I'm confident I can do very well

biggest challenges

I don't have much experience in Keramas

I've competed there already

but it's a tricky wave on your backside, it's not an easy wave

It's really good on your frontside

but It has a weird angle to get turns in

It's definitely better for regulars

Besides that, J-Bay is a complicated wave

I've been there a couple of times,

I felt really good, and I surfed well there

But it's a wave that requires experience to compete on

it's hard to tell which are the good ones are, being alone in the lineup

and big Teahupoo should be pretty tough as well

having to look down and go on anything that comes your way

There's a lot of hype for me in Brazil

but outside, people don't really know me

Brazilians, despite having more exposure out of the country nowadays

still don't appear as much as the other guys

so people don't really know who we are

Brazilians are known for being small wave surfers, and will still be

until we prove them wrong

It's kind of boring waiting around on lay days

so having my girlfriend, my partner, together with me,

makes the lay days so much more fun

there's always something to do having a friend by my side

we get along pretty well, we're not the arguing type

we have a really healthy relationship, so

there's only upsides to it

we're stoked that we'll be able to live both of our dreams together

I liked the fact

that the tour will get shorter.

I think it's even more exciting for those watching

because it turns into a sequence

kind of like soccer championships

it takes place during that one period of time

so, when it does happen, everyone's paying attention

and everyone will have a better idea of what's going on

there won't be such a big gap between events

because then you forget when the events are on

it will be six, seven months of going at it

then we'll have one month to chill at home

And after that we''ll be able to book a surf trip with no worries

without having to think about an upcoming contest a week from now

I think I would take some time off to surf with no worries

get some footage

which is what many surfers on tour are looking forward to

this break to explore other sides of surfing

and to get your body in the best conditioning

rest and train hard for the upcoming year
