These two videos are about graphical representation of complex numbers which also includes modulus,
argument and polar form of complex numbers.
For better understanding of graphical representation of complex numbers, let's start with
brief overview of coordinate system.
In coordinate system we represent the unique position of points or collection of points
using numbers.
There are different kinds of coordinate systems in mathematics, but the two most common are
Cartesian Coordinate System and Polar Coordinate System.
In Cartesian Coordinate System, unique position of points is represented by two perpendicular
lines known as axes.
Where horizontal line is known as x-axis and vertical line as y-axis.
Every unique position is an ordered pair of horizontal and vertical values in this system.
We can represent single points as well as collection of points in this system.
Collection of points basically means mathematical shapes.
We can represent any mathematical shape in cartesian coordinate system.
But in Polar Coordinate System, we usually represent collection of points, most commonly
straight lines.
In polar coordinate system unique position of points is represented by only one axis
known as polar axis.
However, like in cartesian coordinate system every unique position in polar coordinate
system is also an ordered pair.
The difference is ordered pair in polar coordinate system has length and angle made with polar
axis instead of horizontal and vertical values.
Now, we start graphical representation of complex numbers.
Graphical representation of complex number in cartesian coordinate system is known as
Argand Diagram.
In Argand Diagram, we rename x-axis as REAL axis and y-axis as IMAGINARY axis.
In Argand Diagram, complex numbers are generally represented by RAYS from origin.
But also represented by simple DOTS.
Let's take a few examples.
To represent a complex number 2 + 3i, we draw a ray from origin which covers 2 units on
real axis and 3 units on imaginary axis.
Or we can simply put a DOT at (2, 3).
In practical life, RAY approach is much more useful then DOT approach, so in this video
we will focus only on RAY approach.
Like with 2+3i, to represent a complex number -2-3i we draw a ray which covers -2 units
on real axis and -3 units on imaginary axis.
So, this is the way to graphically represent complex numbers on cartesian coordinate system.
Now, to understand polar representation of complex numbers, we need to understand what
is the relationship between Cartesian coordinate system and Polar coordinate system?
Let's draw two identical rays on both coordinate systems.
On cartesian coordinate system, let's take horizontal value as small "x" and vertical
value as small "y".
And on Polar coordinate system, let's take length of line as small "r" and angle made
with polar axis as "θ".
Now, if we merge these two coordinate systems we get a right triangle ABC.
To find relationship between both coordinate systems we can use basic Trigonometry.
In triangle ABC, sin(θ) is equal to AB over AC.
We substitute the values of AB and AC from diagram then we get sin(θ)
equals to "y" over "r".
If we shift "r" from right side to left, we get value of "y" as r.sin(θ).
Similarly, if we use cosine θ in triangle ABC, after simplification we get value of
"x" as r.cos(θ).
So, the relationship between both the coordinate systems is x = r.cos(θ) and y = r.sin(θ).
We can represent any complex number in Polar coordinate system with the help of this relationship.
The polar coordinate representation of complex number is known as POLAR FORM.
Now the question is HOW TO know the values of "r" and "θ" in complex numbers to find
their Polar Forms?
"r" is known as MODULUS of complex number.
As we had studied in Real numbers, MODULUS is the distance of number from origin.
For example, modulus of real number 5 can be find by representing it on a number line,
such that distance from origin, which is 5 units in this case is the modulus.
So, we can say that modulus of 5 is 5.
Similarly, modulus of real number -5 is also 5 because distance of -5 from origin is 5
units but in opposite direction.
If we apply this definition of modulus to complex numbers we can easily find value of
"r".
Let's take a complex number z = 3 + 4i.
Its modulus is represented either by mod(z) or simply "r".
3+4i is represented on Argand Diagram by a RAY with 3 units on real axis and 4 units
on imaginary axis.
And the length of this ray is the modulus of complex number.
To find its value we take the right triangle formed here and apply Pythagoras Theorem on
it.
Pythagoras theorem returns two values of "r".
One is positive 5 and another one is negative five.
As per definition of modulus, it is the distance from origin which cannot be negative.
So, we got only one value of "r" equals to 5.
This is the modulus of complex number 3+4i.
It is not practical to represent complex number on Argand diagram every time we need to find
its modulus.
So, we can derive a general identity using this Pythagoras Theorem approach.
If we replace, 3+4i by a+bi then after applying Pythagoras Theorem on same triangle we got
an identity r = √(a²+b²) which can be easily used to find modulus of any complex
number without the help of Argand Diagram.
So, this is about "r".
In next part of video, we will discuss about "θ" and Polar form of complex number.

ACS Style - Duration: 7:26.
Hi this is brief tutorial about using ACS Style to create references for your papers
and presentations.
So, to start I'll just mention that the ACS Style guide is linked from the Chemistry Subject
Guide if you scroll all the way to the bottom.
There's "Citing & Writing & Presentations" and under there is the Style Guide - ACS Style
Guide.
We have it both in print in our reference collection and it's also available as an e-book.
And there's actually a link just to the references chapter.
So the e-book has a lot of great information - if we go there - on writing style and word
usage, copyright, grammar, punctuation and styling, how to format numbers, mathematics
and units of measure, all that's detailed in the ACS Style Guide.
So if you have questions about that you can look it up there.
And then the reference section is very helpful because it provides kind of an overview of
how to create both the in text part of your references - so when you're writing in the
paper itself, how do you cite in text?
And how do you create the actual references that come at the end of your paper.
Okay.
And so then there's an example list on page 292 and 293 of references.
So I'm going to show you an example.
We'll look at this particular journal article.
It includes Dr. Maria Peralta's work along with her colleagues and it's in the journal
Biophysical Journal.
So if I go over to my Word document, here's that example reference that is included in
the style guide - ACS Style Guide.
An I've pulled out all of the information I need from the database record for this particular
article or the article itself here.
So all the information you need to make a correct, accurate citation should be either
on the full-text item itself or in the database record or both.
So I've pulled that out all there and here it is.
And we're just going to go through and make this reference.
So the first thing is to include the authors.
So you're going to put last name first, and then their initial followed by a semicolon.
And we'll do this for all of them.
Okay, so there are all of the authors listed, last name first.
Now we go on to the article title.
And I will mention that ACS Style permits you to either include an article title or
to not include one.
So just the author, journal, year of publication, volume and issue number, and page numbers
is fine too.
Personally, I think it's more helpful to the reader to have the article title there but
I'll leave it up to you.
Okay, so then next thing we need is the journal title.
And ACS does something interesting here - they actually have you abbreviate the journal title
so instead of putting "Biophysical Journal" you're supposed to use an abbreviation of
this.
So how are you supposed to know what abbreviation to use?
So you can actually - there's a tool that ACS Style uses called the "Chemical Abstracts
Source Index" tool.
So it's linked from the subject guide.
Click on it.
All you need to do is drop that full title into there and search.
And there's the full title and then there's the abbreviated title.
So just copy that and put it back there.
And we will be italicizing the title as well.
So I'll do that.
And then followed by the volume number - or excuse me - the year of publication.
And I didn't include that so let's take a look: 2017.
So we'll put that in our reference and according to ACS Style - this will be in bold and a
comma.
So there's the year of publication.
Now we come to the volume and issue number.
So this is listed on page 296 of the ACS Style Guide.
And so you are going to put the volume number in italics and then the issue number in parentheses
and then a comma
and finally a comma and the page number range.
So here's the complete reference.
One more thing you can do is create a hanging indent so that the references read - are easier
to read in a list.
And now I have the reference, I can create an in text citation as well.
So here's my complete reference and now if I want to cite something in text, say an image
in my presentation or in my research paper - you can see that the guidance for the ACS
Style says that if it's two authors you can include both names.
If it's more than two authors - just the first author et al. and then, for example, the year
of publication in parentheses.
So here's one example of how you might reference this particular image in your presentation
or research paper.

On Friday, South Korean President Moon Jae-in signed a historic peace accord with North
Korean leader Kim Jong-un, the rival countries pledging to officially end the Korean War
that began in 1950.
It would seem like a time to celebrate, but former U.S. President Barack Obama is doing
no such thing.
Instead, he is fuming after what Mr. Moon just let slip about President Donald Trump
in a cabinet meeting.
Donald Trump should win a Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to end the standoff over North
Korea's nuclear weapons program, South Korea's president has suggested.
According to The Independent, President Moon Jae-in said he was "confident a new era
of peace will unfold on the Korean peninsula" following a historic summit last week, during
which Seoul and Pyongyang pledged to end decades of hostilities and work towards "complete
denuclearization."
President Moon had previously said that Trump "deserves big credit for bringing about
the inter-Korean talks," which were the first between North and South Korea in more
than a decade.
The South Korean president echoed the same sentiment during a cabinet meeting on Monday,
telling Seoul officials, "President Trump should win the Nobel Peace Prize.
What we need is only peace."
In the first small steps towards reconciliation, South Korea said on Monday it would remove
loudspeakers that have blared propaganda across the border for decades, while Pyongyang is
to shift its clocks to align with its southern neighbor.
South Korea turned off the loudspeakers, which have broadcast a mixture of news, Korean pop
songs, and criticism of the North Korean regime, as a goodwill gesture ahead of the summit.
It will begin removing them on Tuesday.
"We see this as the easiest first step to build military trust," said South Korean
defense ministry spokeswoman Choi Hyun-soo, adding that Seoul expected North Korea to
follow suit.
Meanwhile, North Korea will shift its time zone 30 minutes earlier to align with South
Korea starting on May 5.
The North's time zone was created in 2015 to mark the 70th anniversary of Koreas liberation
from Japanese rule after World War II.
Now, much hinges on Kim Jong-un's upcoming summit with President Donald Trump, which
is planned to take place in late May or early June.
Any deal with the U.S. will require North Korea to demonstrate "irreversible" steps
to shut down its nuclear weapons program, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Sunday.
President Barack Obama was given a Nobel Peace Prize in 2009, an honor which most hold that
he did nothing to earn.
At the time, Tommy De Seno wrote for Fox News, "Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize
this morning…
President Obama has broken new ground here.
Nominations for potential winners of the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize ended on February 1.
The president took office only 12 days earlier on January 20."

The short path to the Nobel Peace Prize: Party, go to meetings, skip church, release federal
funding to pay for abortions in foreign countries, party some more.
Good grief," wrote De Seno.
If President Donald Trump is not given the Nobel Peace Prize for his instrumental role
in bringing peace to the Korean Peninsula, it will only serve to cement the fact that
Obama was given his award for doing nothing at all.
Indeed, there is perhaps no one less deserving of such a prestigious honor than Barack Obama.

As per definition of modulus, it is the distance from origin which cannot be negative.
So, we got only one value of "r" equals to 5.
This is the modulus of complex number 3+4i.
It is not practical to represent complex number on Argand diagram every time we need to find
its modulus.
So, we can derive a general identity using this Pythagoras Theorem approach.
If we replace, 3+4i by a+bi then after applying Pythagoras Theorem on same triangle we got
an identity r = √(a²+b²) which can be easily used to find modulus of any complex
number without the help of Argand Diagram.
So, this is about "r".

We're gonna take those roasted shrimp that I showed you how to do in a previous video
And we're gonna make this amazing shrimp and avocado salad
This is perfect for any day of the year
But especially nice in the summer when you all you want to do is cool off after a long hot day
This is a full meal in a bowl
Let's go see how this all comes together
Okay, we're gonna make this really fantastic shrimp and avocado salad it's gonna. Have a little bit of sweetness from agave in our
Cilantro and lime vinaigrette that we're gonna build right in the bottom of the bowl everything it's gonna get tossed together
Super fresh super delicious you could make this in advance and have it for a couple of days in your fridge
There is no lettuce in this salad and that is one of the things I love best about it

I love a salad that has zero lettuce in it and

Do is we have two pounds of cooked shrimp I?

handful about a cup or so of
Heirloom tomatoes that I just quartered I have a couple of Persian cucumbers here that I cut in half and then
Chunked up I have
About a quarter of a red bell pepper half of a sweet onion
And I have two limes here and some cilantro that I've chopped up and we're gonna go ahead and we're gonna get started on our
Vinaigrette, I'm gonna squeeze the limes in here
And this is just gonna give it a really nice vibrant fresh

Tangerines and mandarin oranges lemons limes whatever you like go right in there

About a quarter of a cup of cilantro, and then I'm going to take the cooking liquid from roasting my shrimp

Then I'm just gonna toss this gently so that I can incorporate everything together this looks absolutely gorgeous

On Friday, South Korean President Moon Jae-in signed a historic peace accord with North
Korean leader Kim Jong-un, the rival countries pledging to officially end the Korean War
that began in 1950.
It would seem like a time to celebrate, but former U.S. President Barack Obama is doing
no such thing.
Instead, he is fuming after what Mr. Moon just let slip about President Donald Trump
in a cabinet meeting.
Donald Trump should win a Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to end the standoff over North
Korea's nuclear weapons program, South Korea's president has suggested.
According to The Independent, President Moon Jae-in said he was "confident a new era
of peace will unfold on the Korean peninsula" following a historic summit last week, during
which Seoul and Pyongyang pledged to end decades of hostilities and work towards "complete
denuclearization."
President Moon had previously said that Trump "deserves big credit for bringing about
the inter-Korean talks," which were the first between North and South Korea in more
than a decade.
The South Korean president echoed the same sentiment during a cabinet meeting on Monday,
telling Seoul officials, "President Trump should win the Nobel Peace Prize.
What we need is only peace."
In the first small steps towards reconciliation, South Korea said on Monday it would remove
loudspeakers that have blared propaganda across the border for decades, while Pyongyang is
to shift its clocks to align with its southern neighbor.
South Korea turned off the loudspeakers, which have broadcast a mixture of news, Korean pop
songs, and criticism of the North Korean regime, as a goodwill gesture ahead of the summit.
It will begin removing them on Tuesday.
"We see this as the easiest first step to build military trust," said South Korean
defense ministry spokeswoman Choi Hyun-soo, adding that Seoul expected North Korea to
follow suit.
Meanwhile, North Korea will shift its time zone 30 minutes earlier to align with South
Korea starting on May 5.
The North's time zone was created in 2015 to mark the 70th anniversary of Koreas liberation
from Japanese rule after World War II.
Now, much hinges on Kim Jong-un's upcoming summit with President Donald Trump, which
is planned to take place in late May or early June.
Any deal with the U.S. will require North Korea to demonstrate "irreversible" steps
to shut down its nuclear weapons program, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Sunday.
President Barack Obama was given a Nobel Peace Prize in 2009, an honor which most hold that
he did nothing to earn.
At the time, Tommy De Seno wrote for Fox News, "Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize
this morning…

"So there you have it.
The short path to the Nobel Peace Prize: Party, go to meetings, skip church, release federal
funding to pay for abortions in foreign countries, party some more.
Good grief," wrote De Seno.
If President Donald Trump is not given the Nobel Peace Prize for his instrumental role
in bringing peace to the Korean Peninsula, it will only serve to cement the fact that
Obama was given his award for doing nothing at all.
Indeed, there is perhaps no one less deserving of such a prestigious honor than Barack Obama.

2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Review | motoring.com.au - Duration: 3:01.
Sales of small SUVs are accelerating rapidly, which might explain why Mitsubishi now sells
two of them: the ASX and this new one, the Eclipse Cross.
Taking the number of SUVs in Mitsubishi's local line-up to five, the Eclipse Cross shares
its platform with the ASX, but its powertrain has more in common with Honda's larger CR-V.
It's a refined, lively engine, stepping off cleanly at launch and delivering strong performance
in the mid-range... strong enough to induce torque steer.
Coupled to the engine is a continuously variable transmission, driving to the front wheels.
It's typical of the breed, but quieter than Subaru transmissions and a better match to
this engine than the powertrain in the CR-V. The fuel-saving ECO mode takes all the fun
out of exploring the car's performance potential but to its credit the Eclipse Cross can be
very economical.
It posted figures as low as that of a small city hatchback, although around town its fuel
consumption surged.
Dynamically, the Eclipse Cross was not very exciting.
Its roadholding is up to par, but the steering is uninvolving and the handling is safe rather
than exhilarating.
The ride was firm and occasionally choppy, although it will absorb some hard hits from
potholes and bumps.
From the driver's seat, the Eclipse Cross features conventional ergonomic design practice
mostly common to other Mitsubishi models.
The seats are comfortable, the instruments are easy to read and the infotainment screen
allows the user to swipe for different apps.
One app missing is satellite navigation.
Mitsubishi appears to be moving away from on-board systems needing frequent updates,
in favour of CarPlay or Android Auto, either of which permits navigation from a smartphone.
The Eclipse Cross also foregoes functionality for style.
While the hip point is fine for entry and exit from the car, the roofline at the rear
is low, too low perhaps for adults climbing in.
The Eclipse Cross is longer than the ASX and the wheelbase is the same for both SUVs, but
the older car offers larger luggage capacity with the rear seat folded, according to Mitsubishi's
own specifications.
There is more boot space in the Eclipse Cross if the rear seat is slid forward, but that
naturally reduces the amount of legroom available for passengers.
As it is, the rear-seat accommodation is borderline for adults of average height – with headroom
limited by the sunroof fitted.
And there are no adjustable vents back there to keep the kids cool.
Some will question the reasoning behind the Eclipse Cross, when Mitsubishi already has
a perfectly serviceable small SUV in the form of the ASX.
But sales indicate there are buyers out there willing to pay extra to enjoy some panache
for the family car.
Mitsubishi has already sold around twelve hundred units of the Eclipse Cross for the
first three months on sale, and that's almost as many as the well-established ASX.
Maybe Mitsubishi's onto something.
