Ep 63 - England (part1) - Around Europe on a Motorcycle - Honda Transalp 700 - Duration: 7:07.

Good morning everyone! Today is the 14th of March

and I am officially 6 months, here in Lincoln, where I made a stop for the winter.

and since I made this stop, I found a job as well. I am working in a Greek restaurant.

I want to thank Christos Papadopoulos, that he offered me this job in his restaurant,

despite knowing that I will leave in 6 months.

I really appreciate it.

Lincoln is a nice city, its one of the oldest cities and has a lot of history.

The trademark building of the city is the huge Cathedral on the hill.

When this cathedral was build it was the tellerst building of the world and to hold on that title for 280 years.

Back then it claimed this title from the pyramid of Giza

and hold it for 280 long years.

I visited the cathedral and off course is bigger than you can imagine.

Its the central cathedral of the county since there are seats for the cardinal and other priests in.

There is also a cemetery for the priests that where servicing in the cathedral.

There is a museum inside, there is even a coffee shop in there.

If your way ever brings you to Lincoln, make sure you have a stop at that impressive building.

Lincoln nowadays is a quiet and small town,

but here some decades ago, it was the birthplace of the first tank!

which played a significant role for winning the first world war for the allies back then.

The city of Lincoln is very proud about that. They have the dedicated memorial in on of the cities round abouts.

The life flows normal for me here. There is a routine going on for the last months.

I remembered the years before I start this trip, when I was only working and sleeping to be able to travel.

and I can't wait to hit the road again.

That's what is going on for the last 6 months.

In the next year of travelling... because that what this stop is all about....

To work a bit and get some money to be able to travel for one more year.

So I will try for the next year to deliver the videos, as soon as possible to where I am and what I am doing.

Lets hope I will not create a huge gap between realtime travelling and videos.

I hope that you will be with me in this year of travelling as well. There are 15 more countries to visit.

In a few days I am going to celebrate 2 years on the road, which is a very important checkpoint for me.

When I started this trip, being 2 years on the road wasn't even close to my imagination.

Up until now I am really satisfied from everything I gained during this trip.

From everything that I have seen, the people that I have meet and the friends that I've made

"CIRCULAR ECONOMY BREAKS WITH THE "PRODUCE, CONSUME AND THROW AWAY"-ECONOMY"

Circular economy for us, it already begins in the design phase.

We actually ask designers to keep in mind that at some point the piece of furniture

will be returned and we shall be able to handle the materials and they must be recyclable.

Suppliers must accept that they are part of the circular solution.

This means that the piece of furniture they make for us, they end up getting parts of back,

and they must upcycle it. And we have found local Danish suppliers.

So we say: On one hand we want good quality materials and on the other they must know, that at some point

these materials will be returned. And then in our network, through the stores,

we want the customers to come back and deliver the furniture

that they no longer need then they get a discount, i.e. an incentive

to buy a new one, and then we come, we go to the shops and pick up the furniture,

take them apart and make sure they get upcycled.

Sustainability kind of slowly creeped up on me

when I was pregnant for the first time. That's when my journey began towards thinking more about

what we consume.

We have a set of core value that are about showing our children

how to behave, how we actually want to deliver our planet

to them, hopefully in a slightly better condition, than we received it in.

What we do at Wehlers with circular economy, it's also exactly what we are doing with

our parenting. For instance when we go to the park,

then of course we leave the park as it was when we arrived

we take our waste with us and we recycle what should be recycled

and so on and so on.

- The way we have designed our lives worldwide, we trade with each other,

we buy and consume goods, it adds pressure on resources in general.

Already at the beginning of August we've used the amount of resources that are available from Earth.

That represents a threat but also an opportunity:

An opportunity for us to say "Here's a way in which we can

differentiate ourselves in the market." So the issues

the world is facing become our business opportunity.

We have then chosen to become B Corporation- certified

"B CORP. COMPANIES COMMIT TO SOLVING SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES"

- It's what makes us relevant, it's what gives Wehlers any justification

at all, that we can do something others can't.

It is also about, in the broad perspective, I think it's 60% of the budget

for the state of Denmark, which concerns private consumption, so actually

a great deal of power lies with the the individual consumer. If we all agreed that there

is something we don't want and move our purchases towards sustainable, we are forcing

companies and politicians to act according to that.

Is the model perfect? The model is incisive in terms of circular economy, it is our proposition.

but don't get us wrong, we'd also like to sell furniture in southern Germany

and at some point, they are loaded onto a truck and driven down there

and that's not responsible in that way, so in terms of reaching the perfect solution,

we'll probably never get there, but if we can continue to develop and become

more skilled, maybe that's what we as business owners aspire to,

to show our good colleagues in the industry: "listen up, there's a better way to do it"

- We would actually like to revolutionize the furniture industry, practically.

- For each company, for each individual human, for each family,

it's perhaps a matter of having an opinion about, what you want to try

to influence in a positive direction, in fact you can just look at the 17 development goals

that are there, say "how many of these can we cover" and then you start

to build on saying, what is our take on sustainability,

and I think, I don't know anyone, who can manage all the goals,

but actively taking a stand and having a message and take on

what sustainability means to the individual business and then doing it

and standing by it, that is both our passion and our core values

for a family, but also for Wehlers.

I never thought that agriculture seemed particularly interesting,

actually. It wasn't really something I thought about,

not when you grow up in the city anyways

But I had always been interested in food, so when I

found this study program, it still felt like a pretty natural step.

Issues concerning supply and such are not so far away.

So I wanted to study something that had a natural science focus.

My name is Victor, I'm studying field and plant agronomy

The best part of the study program is that you really understand

how to use everything you learn

All the chemistry and biology that we study, we use in ecology

and genetics, which we then benefit from when we study

plant production or field science.

What's also exciting is that you really get a deeper

understanding of things, down at a microscopic level.

Such as how a plant can know which way is up or down,

how it feels gravity, or how it knows that it is

exposed to a fungal attack, and how to protect itself against it.

But also, from a much bigger perspective, what our cultivation

systems look like, how to produce enough food for a

growing population at the desired quality.

And how does nature affect us and how do we protect it,

and at the same time have profitable farming so that there

are actually some people who can afford to cultivate the land

Otherwise, we can't produce any food to begin with.

When I'm done, I would like to work with some kind of plant breeding.

Just because I think genetics and how plants work are very exciting.

But the program is still so broad and the various areas you

can choose address so many different issues, so there are actually

many other things I would also like to work with.

Today we're going to look at the top five things that players love about their DMs.

These are the things that are going to make our games a lot better if we're consistently

doing them as DMs.

So, let's get cracking!

Number 5 Cool voices!

Now, I'm not talking about being a voice actor!

I'm just talking about trying.

Your players will appreciate the effort even if you're not that good.

Remember: the more you practice, the better you get.

Practice while you're in the car!

People won't think you're crazy.

They'll just think you're using a hands-free headset to talk on your phone.

(choked chuckle) Yeah, that's it… (witch voice) All right, adventurers, prepare

to meet your doom! (evil demon voice) Are you making fun of my

witch voice?

That's very dangerous.

Keep laughing… (high pitched voice, speaking quickly) Yep,

yep, yep, yep, yep!

I can tell you what's in the cave.

Not a problem, not a problem!

Just give me more nuts.

I need more nuts.

Give me more nuts!

Nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts!

That was my squirrel voice, by the way.

Number four Figure out what your players like about the

game, and give them more of it!

Got thespians in your group who LOVE social interactions?

Pile that stuff on!

Do they dig puzzles?

Yep!

We got that.

Tactical combat?

We got you covered!

Exploration?

We can do that, too!

Number three Integrating elements from their backstories

into the campaign; and even designing entire adventure arcs around them.

Your player took the time to write that backstory.

I guarantee you that if you take the time to do something with it, she will love you

for it!

Doing this makes your players feel special because they have parts of the game that revolve

around them.

It pulls them into the game, puts them into the spotlight, and lets them shine.

Okay, that's, that's too much.

Number two Letting players' actions and choices matter

and influence the world around them.

This is empowering and makes your players feel important.

For instance, did they sneak past that dragon turtle and steal several magical items from

her treasure horde?

Well now she's sending mercenaries after the heroes, and every so often a hit squad

shows up for them.

And they know that eventually they gotta go back there and take care of that dang turtle

because things are not going to get any better.

Did the heroes piss off the local lord by treating him disrespectfully?

Well now everywhere they go merchants are tripling their prices or straight up won't

sell to them because that local lord called in a few favors.

When your players see that what they do in the game has a tangible effect on the world

around them….

That takes your game to the next level!

Number one Putting in the effort to prepare a great game.

And there are no shortcuts here.

Adequately preparing to run a great game takes time and effort.

But, trust me, your players will notice, and they'll love you for it.

And they'll also notice if you didn't do JACK to prepare for the game session and

are just pantzing it.

Unless you're a professional pantzer…

Stat blocks, lore, a well thought out plot.

Customized music, special handouts, hand-crafted magical items created just for them.

Creating engaging battle scenarios on interesting terrain.

These are the types of things I'm talking about!

There is nothing wrong with improving during your game – all great DMs improv – but

the important parts – the parts you don't want to improv – prep those parts!

Err on the side of planning more, not planning less.

All other things being equal, a well-prepared DM will almost always run a better game than

an unprepared DM.
