TOOLS TO LIVEBY began as a project
I started it because
I like stationery very much
Be it a business trip, or going on vacation
As long as there is a a stationery shop
I will definitely walk in and start a treasure hunt
for some unique piece of stationery
My favourite are the classic ones
those that I have never seen in Taiwan
I have collected a lot of stationery
At the time, I realised that people in Taiwan
paid little attention to stationery
So, during business meetings, I would look around
Paid attention to the pens and notepads they were using
Or the little pieces of stationery they love
I loved to see what our clients were using
And later, I found that
there are many classic stationery around the world that people in Taiwan don't know
Therefore, I wanted to share what I love to use
Five of my good friends and I
We opened this stationery shop together
When this project first started, we thought
Lets take some of our money for one year
If we used it up and didn't succeed, it doesn't matter
This was our mentality
I am graphic designer
We share lots of ideas with our clients every day
Like ideas for retailing
When we opened our stop
We also used some of those ideas that we gave
We had some success, and some maybe less so
And all in all, it was a fun experience
When we opened this shop
We didn't not know where our guests will be from
When we started to talk about it on the internet
We were amazed at how many people shared it
They were saying oh there is this small but fun shop. Let's go and see.
With time, everyone started to pay more attention to the stationery they are using
In fact, a pen is about NT$200
You can buy stationery
that improves the eight hours you spend at the office
When we started this shop, our aim is to
Change the scene of people's desks
That is our slogan
Picking good stationery that you use for eight hours in your office everyday
You can improve the scenery on your desk
That was our goal
This project has a special place in my life
I have always been influenced by a designer
It is not that I like her clothes or whatever
It's actually (what she said)
One day, I went to a business meeting
They told me that they invited an American designer, Anna Sui
They showed me a short video
Of her talking about her project, why is she doing this
When it ends, she said to us:
"Live your dream"
"Live your dream" inspired me so much
After this meeting,
I realised what she said echos with my own thoughts
I did't know how put my feelings to words
When I heard this sentence, it was like a flash of light
A lightning, striking into my heart
Yes, this is what I want - "Live your dream"
So no matter what I am, a designer
A company's manager
Or even as a stationery shop owner. Everything I do
I take this sentence to heart
This sentence represents my philosophy of life
I want to share this with everyone
"We all have our dream, live in your dream"
