Hey I'm Bob from W5L and I want to know something.
What apps do you have on your phone and do you know if they're really safe?
Here are 9 apps that you should probably delete from your phone right now.
Non-Standard Browsers Phones have evolved greatly since they were
first made portable.
To that end, one of the biggest revolutions in phones is when people were able to start
actively using the internet via their mobile devices.
And with new technology and Wi-Fi, that became a go-to thing for phones.
However, there is a danger if you're not accessing the internet from the right app.
The standard in internet browsers is widely considered to be Google Chrome.
Google is a reliable service, they can be trusted, they have Gmail, and they've been
refining their browser for a long time.
However, you might be tempted to try out a new browser because it offers you "faster
load times" or "extra features" that sound very enticing.
That's the problem though, they sound enticing, but they're really not.
Can you guess how they would fail you as an app?
Well, a big one is that these "extra services" invite ads and other things onto your phone
which will slow down how fast you can actually go.
Plus, these "extra services" also take up memory, and data, which will mess with you
in many ways.
So, for the best and easiest internet experience, stick with Chrome or another established web
browser.
8.
Apps That Give Away Your Information While this second one may be obvious to an
extent, as you should never install an app that gives away your information, it goes
toward a key part of app downloading.
Do.
Your.
Research!
You might be thinking, "Why would I need to research an app?"
Well, that's because sometimes a popular app changes, and what it does without your knowledge
changes too.
What's more, while an app may look innocuous, it could be hiding something very disturbing.
A good example is QuickPic.
This once popular app was used to be a photo gallery app of sorts, which is very useful.
The original owners did frequent updates, refined the tool, and made it easy to use
for everyone who downloaded it.
That sounds like a good app.
But then, it was bought out, and its new owners, Cheetah Mobile, started to put its user data
on its servers, which started a string of bad things happening to those who downloaded
it.
7.
RAM Saving Apps One of the hardest things to do on a phone
is make sure you don't use up too much data and battery life on the apps you have and
maintain.
It happens, I know.
And no one wants to end up with a dead battery because of their choices.
So, you might be tempted to find an app that can help empty your RAM a bit and keep your
battery alive a little longer.
The problem with that is, these apps often do a lot more harm than good.
In fact, it's better that you manage this problem yourself than to risk trying to give
it to an app to fix.
What's more, if you have an Android phone, and other phones have similar functions, the
phone will actually manage the data memory your apps use and ensure that it only uses
memory when being used, and no time else.
So think smart before you go and get an app like that.
Speaking of which.
6.
Performance Boosting Apps When I'm using my phone, I want to use it
without any hassle or complaints, especially when I'm at home.
And then there's nothing worse than when my phone gets slow for one reason or another.
Much like the RAM saving apps, you might be tempted to try and get one that will boost
your phones' performance.
Like the previous entry though, they rarely do it.
First off, these "cleaning" apps take up a lot of battery power, which will cause you
a bunch of frustration after a while.
Second, you can boost the performance yourself by doing basic cleaning and maintenance on
your phone.
For example, if you uninstall an app (which you should do if you're not using it very
often), there is a chance that it could leave some data behind, which can slow down your
phone.
To get rid of it, all you have to do is go into your setting menu and clear the Cache.
You can even do this for your whole phone, or for specific apps.
And it takes seconds to do.
If you need another reason to not go to apps for this, many of those kinds of apps bring
in ads that can eat up your data.
Something tells me you don't want that.
5.
Pre-Installed Apps Let me ask you something, when you got your
new phone, did you look at what it already had on it?
Be honest with me now, I really want to know.
You didn't?
You probably should.
Why?
Well, because these apps were put there for a reason, but that reasoning wasn't yours,
it was the manufacturers.
For while they don't know who exactly will buy one of their phones, they are trying to
sell things within it, and because of that, certain apps are installed that will run regardless
of whether you actually use them.
What's more, some of them are so ingrained in the designing of the phone that you can't
actually uninstall them without significant work on your part.
So why search them?
Well, because some of them can be deleted, and they're taking up space on YOUR phone
that could be used for something a lot more useful.
Or at the very least, a lot more entertaining.
It doesn't have to be right now, after all, I'd like you to finish this video, but when
you get a free minute or two, check what apps are actually on your phone.
You might surprised on what's already there.
4.
Antivirus Apps Let me paint you a picture.
You're on your PC, and you go to a site that you trust.
You're reading an article and click on a link to find a source.
Unbeknownst to you, that site contains a virus!
What do you do?
That's right, you likely don't have to do anything, as the computer has an antivirus
program protecting your computer from getting hurt.
This is arguably one of the most important parts of the computer.
Which, would make you think that having an antivirus software app on your phone would
be logical.
There's one problem though, it honestly doesn't need it.
Now, don't get me wrong, there's always a way for a virus to get on your phone, but
as long as you think smart about what you're downloading and where you're downloading it
from, you'll be fine.
In fact, many, MANY app makers who are official developers highlight that their apps are all
free of virus and back that up in many ways.
What's more, your phone has certain security measures within itself that will warn you
if something odd is up with the app you're trying to download.
Again, it's not foolproof, and if you download from unofficial places you can get a virus
on your phone.
But, if you're paranoid that anything you download will have a virus, take a breath,
you'll be fine more times than not.
3.
Battery Saver/Phone Charger Apps Let me ask you something, what's worse than
dealing with the possibility of a virus on your phone?
That's right, having no battery power left on your phone.
Early on in cell phone life, one of the easiest things was keeping the battery power going.
After all, if you weren't using your phone, there's nothing to drain your battery, right?
Well, as things got more complicated, so too did the effects it had on your battery.
With apps now draining your batter even if it's standby mode, it can be pretty challenging
at times to keep your phone charged, especially when you're on long trips with no outlets
to charge.
So, like many other apps we've mentioned before, you might be tempted to find an app that can
help reduce how much battery life your other apps take.
Or, find an up that can help charge your phone up faster.
Let's tackle that second one first.
There is no such app that can allow that.
How come?
Because it's not a software issue, it's a hardware issue.
Your phone can literally only absorb energy at a certain rate, and no app can change that.
As for a battery saver, you might think this one is possible, but it's honestly not.
Every app takes a piece of your battery life, which is fine.
But to truly "save" energy, the app would need to affect both the apps themselves and
the operating system of the phone, which is never going to happen.
Plus, if this one app is doing that, it would likely take more energy than you are saving.
Which, again, is never going to happen.
If you want to save battery power on your phone, follow previous instructions we've
made on this list.
Know what apps to use and not use.
Delete and uninstall all apps that you don't use, and keep a charger close by in case you
need a refill of battery.
2.
Pointless Apps Does this sound vague?
Well, it kind of is, but it's an intentional kind of vague.
The true is, apps are like candy (go with me on this) at a candy store.
They all look so appetizing and pretty, you just can't help but want to try them all.
But, just like eating too much candy, getting too many apps, especially pointless ones,
can make you unhealthy.
Don't get us wrong, a lot of apps out there have purpose.
Maps that give you directions, flashlight capabilities, social media connections, all
are good.
But then...there are those...that you download in a moment and think it's cool...then you
never use it again.
You've done that, haven't you?
Which ones have you downloaded and regretted doing after a few days?
Let us know.
The point is though, the more apps you have, the more data you use, and as stated above,
the more apps you have, the more drained your battery will get.
Be smart, only download apps that you feel you'll use every once in a while.
And then, if you don't feel you'll use it again, delete it, you'll be better off that
way.
1.
Knockoffs Of Apps Or Games In apps, as in life, not everything is free,
and that's fine.
People should be paid for their work.
However, as we are humans, or we hope you're human... we always look for a new way to "cheat
the system" and get something we want for much cheaper.
Can't get a video game at full price?
Find a way to pirate it!
Can't get the "name brand"?
Get a just as good general brand!
This also applies to apps, but unlike say buying regular non-brand peanut butter, buying
a knockoff or "cheaper" app can put your phone in serious danger.
As for games, certain knockoff titles may seem like a good replica, but they have ads
and other ways to screw with you that will make you wish you just paid the full price
for the one you knew was safe.
If we're being honest, some knockoffs are fine, but when it comes to the ones that matter,
don't be stingy, buy the brand name, it'll save you a lot of grief down the road.
Thanks for watching!
Have you ever downloaded any of these apps?
Did you get rid of them, or are planning to now?
