Youtube daily report Apr 19 2018

Welcome to a new chapter of Lina & Mauro

from VamosSomewhere!

As always, thanks for being in here in our channel

We went to Florida.

We say Florida and do we think immediately?

Malls to go shopping clothes and brands,

We think about the beach,

and we think about the Disney and Universal parks.

VamosSomewhere did not wanted to live Florida

from the malls, the beach or the parks

because that is what's about.

about walking the extra mile.

We did something few people actually do.

Going north to Orlando, most of the people

go to the parks and nice to visit them,

but few people go a bit further.

That's what we did,

and we discover one of the natural national parks

named: Alexander Springs.

We made this trip with a couple of friends.

We camped, the area is ready for a nice camping plan.

There is many activities you can do,

rent a canoe, which is what we did, and go canoeing.

There is alligators, so you cannot swim in some areas.

Is full of otters, birds, turtles.

You just go out and paddle pacefully.

The water is cristal clear, with some amazing blues.

And you can go swim in an amazing place.

We could say that is the Caribbean Sea, but is not.

Is sweet water, a river.

Turquoise waters

You can go diving, do snorkeling.

During spring and autumn the manatees arrive.

And what we learnt from this experience is that

most of the times we stay at the surface.

We stay with the first result.

Even when we look for something in Google

Tell me how many of you go beyond Google's first page?

We always want the first outcome, the easiest message.

The first thing we get.

and just because we haven't looked a bit deeper.

We talk about going beyond the surface

not just because of this amazing place we discovered.

but also to get carried away by the impulse of going further

Put your head in the water, get wet!

Because there is another world down there,

that few people explore and it's worth discover.

Because that's everything about.

About walking the extra mile.

About not walking where everyone walks.

Because you will just find what everyone finds.

But if you take a different path,

surely nature will surprise you

and show you something completely unexpected.

Simply by taking a different path.

If you are starting a new project, a new idea,

something you have been working for a while,

nice if you go deeper about the subject.

If you just meet someone,

nice if you ask them about other things.

Get to know them deeper, go beyond the surface.

Beyond of what we normally see

and talk when connecting with someone for the first time.

Allow yourself to find more

There is so much we don't see, so much we don't meet.

And life just goes away and we remain in the surface.

Go deeper!

Get your head in!

below water of course!

We hope you had enjoyed don't forget to "Like" the video.

Help us spread this message

with all the people you think will appreciate it.

See you in the next video!

Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho's squad revealed for Bournemouth clash in Premier League

The Red Devils manager will no doubt look ahead to the FA Cup semi-final with Tottenham on Saturday.

And the Manchester Evening News have released who they have found out are in the squad as United flew down to the south coast.

Luke Shaw, Marouane Fellaini and Daley Blind have all made the trip and could feature against the Cherries.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial may also be given a rare start in the Premier League by Mourinho.

Sergio Romero is absent from the travelling party which would suggest De Gea will start in the FA Cup against Spurs on Saturday.

Matteo Darmian is in the squad and could feature despite his comments earlier this week stating he was flattered to be linked with a summer switch to Juventus.

The 28-year-oldexplained:Juventus? This interest is pleasing.

Juve are a great club and to be of interest to a club like that is important.

Well definitely make the right evaluations at the end of the season.

I'm a part of one of the biggest clubs in the world and I'm proud of that, it allows me to win important trophies.

There's nostalgia for Italy and I do miss it, let's finish the season and then we'll evaluate things. Starsport will bring you all the action as Bournemouth take on Manchester United via our live blog from 6.30pm.

Goalkeepers:David de Gea, Kieran OHara, Joel Pereira Defenders:Antonio Valencia, Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Victor Lindelof, Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind, Luke Shaw, Ashley Young, Matteo Darmian Midfielders:Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera, Scott McTominay Forwards:Alexis Sanchez, Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard, Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford, Juan Mata.

Working At Shopify | How I Got Fired - Duration: 27:29.

Hi there my name's Nick Sutherland, and this is my life channel this week we are going to talk about my previous job experience.

So I Applied for a company called Shopify

Which for you who are unfamiliar with what it is. It's an e-commerce platform online was found in Ottawa, Canada and

Serves most of the world now one of the biggest e-commerce platforms

I personally found Shopify back in 2013 or 2012

when I first started my first business I

Was looking around for different?

Ecommerce platforms, and I came across Shopify, and haven't lost it since

Just to explain how it works is you apply for your job, so you give your usual resume cover letter

They had thrown a little trick in there to see if how detail-oriented. You are so going all that actually got a offer

For a life story, which is just an interview with

An actual person so they talked about you know who you are as person. What's your experience?

They really do like unique people people who have e-commerce

Expertise any entrepreneurship obviously, I've been using the platform for a long time

So they did appreciate that and then took about another five days or so before I got

What they call the gauntlet which is kind of throwing you on a mock job to see how well you'd perform?

And I actually do that

maybe way across Ontario so I was at an Airbnb and sat down with really terrible internet and

did the entire gaunt when I did really well and

Again, I've been using the platform since at that point as three or four years using the platform

so I was pretty good at what at using the platform, so what I got when I did really well and

didn't hear back for

Another week or so and then I heard back when I hit Calgary I heard back there saying yeah, you have an interview tomorrow

Just was a final interview just get me into if I fit in properly then get me into the job

Did that in Calgary again the terrible internet really early in the morning?

And then didn't hear back for another week or so that was probably most frustrating part is after each one

They wouldn't tell you right away. It's understandable

They're a pretty big company, but I would expect you know a little better communication but again

They're big company no complaints go out to Whistler. That's where I live

And yeah, then you sent me a job offer

Which is awesome. They said congratulations. You got the job. He was starting training in three weeks

Everyone kinda starts off in the support area they all start off as a guru

Which is just like a frontline customer support text of work kind of situation and get to work from home which is awesome

So there's no offices. They have an office in San Francisco, Ottawa

Montreal Toronto Waterloo I

Think that's everything all of them, but everyone else from the remote team are across Canada in the Philippines

They're getting some new spots

I'm not sure if I'm the liberty to say where they are so I will keep that confidential so yeah

You work remotely I worked from my trailer in Whistler as long as you have fast enough in shit, but honestly

You don't need that good in shit. I had probably

15 to 20 down

Five up and I did fine

It was a little bit stressful during the training because you do video training through zoom or Skype or Google Hangouts

So you have a lot of people all in all in one room?

But once they actually get into guru position you actually don't need a lot of

Like bandwidth at all it's a pretty low bandwidth

You're mostly talking on VoIP answering emails and on live chats, which just don't take a lot

So the training it was I believe was four weeks of training or maybe even six weeks of training very extensive. You're working 40-hour weeks

You actually get your your full salary off the bat and some benefits off the bat. They do

Have good benefits. They pay alright

You start start your pay around forty thousand. That's where I started you do get promotions pretty quickly so within four months

I got a raise and they do definitely recognize people who work really hard, but

Yeah, so you spent I think this four 6pk. I can't quite remember training so your every single day. You're at your desk on video

Learning the internal tools they've learned the platform

and you're a group about ten fifteen people and today that's about four again five million dollars four to six weeks and

Then you're kind of thrown into the job

You do get at the end of the training you do get two weeks of just pure mentoring so you're two people with one

tenured guru and you

You work alongside them with real real shots

Just to kind of perfect what you weren't then you're just thrown in there

And I did honestly I sit for a guru. I did really well I had

the highest or second highest and my squad

so there's

To explain the squads there's about ten people per squad and with the squad lead so your supervisor

And then there's times time zones

There's a time leave for each time zone in Canada or overseas etc so my squad I was first or second the entire

Entire time I worked my ass off. I worked really hard for I do I do believe in high quality work

I run my own company on the side as well

and I would expect unless from my employees so I give the same to another company and

They didn't respect me for that. I got a raise fairly quickly and I was on track for a

Promotion I was looking at themed support tier two I was also looking at some

Dev team stuff as well as some biz ops

but ultimately

Yeah, I didn't get didn't end up getting there

For anyone who's applying and was watching this who's curious what your day-to-day is you have different timeslots

So I took the ten to six time slot, which is specific Center time where I am so 10 a.m.. To 6 p.m.. And

Your day to day

Looked you have half an hour thing of the day, which is jump off so some teams will have meetings

But we just answered emails and kind of caught up on a queue, or you know just getting ready for the day

And then you spend between 3 to 4 hours on other shots or phones have a half an hour lunch

And then the same thing you have other phones or chats for the afternoon

And then you have half an hour at the end the day to answer emails wind down and then get the head out now

Three times a week you have professional development time which is an hour

Professional development or training depends on you know what's going on. So there are a lot of training materials

You have to learn so that you did you designate some time to learn training and learning the new products excited that are coming out

But yeah, I mean then you have these professional develop times, so you can work on your own websites. You can learn the platform better

Develop your intellectual skills anything pretty much that builds you as a person you have that time

So I do I do give kudos to Shopify for keeping you know their staff mentally sane. It is a pretty high-stress job

You have a lot of people you have to answer to

When you're on chats you have three or four chats so three or four different people you're answering to and you also have to follow

Ups and escalations and answer emails, so there is a lot of work

It's pretty high pressure and they do expect a lot out of you and again like I did between

20 and 100 interactions a day depending on how fast you were and how busy our queues were

So I did very much appreciate those hours

the hour times

Because I needed it. I need that time to catch up my work

I need that time to kind of step away and take a deep breath, and then usually on Fridays Lucifer

Eyes are a squad we had a team time so it's a cert time to

communicate the team team builds

Family build a lot of fun stuff because everyone is working remotely right like I had tea

I had people from all over DC of people in Victoria, Kelowna, Vancouver, Whistler

So it's a good time to kind of you know build a family we build your team

Build your squad because you know your your

That's your team

That's people you're asking your questions the people you rely on if you have any issues are going to them first before you send it

up to

escalated support or themed support etc

So that was awesome

So you only really had one day a week that you didn't have an hour off or I stay off

But like an hour not on channels

Which is fine, so Thursdays, there's always like the highest rest days, and I hated those days

but Friday's were very relaxed because you know you had to jump off you only worked for a

bit in the morning had a lunch work for bit nastier than you had an hour and then then your

wrap-up time at the end the day so you had an hour and a half off in the day to actually kind of relax and

wind down

And talk about the week which is awesome

I did very much appreciate that so yeah, that's the day a day at least said I work at Shopify

You're expected to spend between six months is kind of where

You really fall into the role and figure it out and where I can start looking for promotions since it's such a fast growing company

It's a for an example. I was hired in

May or June of 2017 I think was the end of May

and by the time I left Shopify which was

March 2018

50% of the company was already hired after me so the company doubled in size

By the time I was done

I shall confine so that's how fast you're growing you're growing by like 400 people a month at one point

Which is huge for a small company?

So about after about six months you can start looking for promotions start looking for different jobs, so

Lift some lists time with the options at the top of my head you have themes support if you're good at themes

You have tier two which is a rescue lated support. You have shipping solutions financial solutions risk development

squad lead

There's so many of them you can go over dev team

But the one that I was really focusing on was squad Li because I already had a lot of management experience in the past

So it's really focusing on that

I took a quick look at team support

but there was a lot of it was kind of by the book and not being creative when I love being creative so

I kind of put push that off and then tier two was the other big one was looking at because I knew the platform

so well since I worked on it I

Did really want to kind of get into the servers?

And you know do the big problem solving because you know first first level support a lot. It's like

Oh, you know this isn't working

Why isn't working?

And you click a button that they didn't see and it works

So you have a lot of those a lot of walkthroughs of how the platform works

We're at tier 2 you get all the ones that people don't understand

So for example like it when I click the Add to Cart button like nothing happens

So you have to go in and see okay? What's the server error? That's happening? How do I fix it?

Where do I send it how do I fix it myself?

It's really interesting that on top of that tier 2 works 4 days a week 10 not 10 hour days

And I live in the beautiful British Columbia as you guys are seen or we're gonna see I love doing adventures

I love hiking so three days off isn't much better than two days off which brings me to the schedule rotations

So you're on a six or eight weeks schedule rotation, which means you have six weeks

Monday to Fridays and then two weeks

two or three or four weeks

I actually don't remember of off

Working weekends so for example you work Monday to Friday - Friday - Friday Monday to Friday, and then you have

I think it's Tuesday to Saturday, then you have sunday off Sunday Monday off, and then you work

Tuesday to Friday and have the new work Saturday Sunday

And then something like that it's kind of you may need people to work the weekend because you have 24/7 support

So you work to begin just for two or three weeks or maybe even even four weeks

And then you're back in your rotation same thing with the eight week rotation you hit the eight-week rotation

And then you have like two weeks or three weeks or four weeks of working a day or two days in the weekend depending on

the school

Which brings me to the cultures of shopify now everyone there is

Probably between 20 and 30 area or majority of the support staff leaves

I don't we definitely got a chance to meet a lot of the development teams or legal teams

But supports would be probably 20 or 30 area, so there is a bit of professionalism, but there's also a lot of

Young startup tech vibes a little bit a maturity

Very very laid-back kind of culture

Which is great like it's cool to see a company be so laid back yet so professional and so hyper efficient at what they do

However, if you're just a really professional person, and so he just likes to get shit done

Which is actually their motto? It's you know get shit done act like owner

Then it can be a little bit stressful

So I again like I said before I was one of the I was out of the first or second performer depending on the month

out of my ten people in my squad and by like that I mean I kicked everyone's butt like I was doing or me and

like one of my friends was doing

between

Double and triple what most people were doing so for example one month. I did 200 shots

50 calls and probably 200 emails where everyone else is doing like you know peaky chats

50 emails 50 calls so that can be a little bit frustrating

Applying for promotions it really does help to know people so this is such a young company and everyone. They're so young

There is a bit of a clique enos going on so if you know people get along with people

Kind of reach out to people and really focus on that

then you kind of have a better probability of

The at least four squad lead you have better probability of actually getting the job

So the other ones are not so much touching the newer teams

They kind of just take replies, but if you want to be a squad leader Shabbat, which is what I wanted to be

Especially because I had such a good experience, but I do enjoy managing people

My apply for squad lead twice the first time I applied I got to the first round got passed

So there's probably I think there was 30 applicants. They chose 20 for an interview, and then the next one

They chose was like 15 people and then the chosen lost person so I made the first round so I got chosen for an interview

Got the interview

And then it really gave me any feedback

They kind of just said you know story to get the job maybe work on being a better leader

Which is pretty frustrating for someone who you know I already run a remote team

I already run a company with staffing of six people right now

I

Do it very very well, and I have a really high performing team who respects me?

And you know they have no management whatsoever in their location. It's all done remotely, so that was kind of fresher

I didn't get much feedback, so I bummed me out for a while

But I still kick I still kick - I worked too hard, and then I applied for

Squad lead again, and I got same thing there was probably round 30 people

They chose 20 for interview

And I got to the interview and this time we had five people in food before it was just one person

But now we had five people in here there was

two squad leads

HR rep a time lead

Time needing training and I got a vibe from the time lead

That she just didn't like me. She just didn't have she didn't smile at me. She'd ask me questions

Just seemed gently pissed off me, and I was kind of unsure. Why because you know I am a pretty outgoing person

I work really hard. I keep out of trouble. I don't really communicate

Like bad things or anything. I'm a very positive vibe kind of person, and I really don't deal with gossip

I just kind of some German Switzerland

I just sit in the middle that kind of took me off-guard

But I still I did I think I did really really well

And they did one of the thyme leaves really did like me

It was kind of frustrating because you know I got a email back saying kind of similar thing like soy didn't get the job

But the difference is time it actually gave me a feedback interview

Or a feedback meeting, so I had a feedback meeting with the person who actually really liked me, and then she said yeah

I really liked you know were just looking for a little bit more Vista sin this I'm Teresa Civic

They're looking for a little bit more of what personality flexing, so I'm a very bubbly person

But they're kind of worried if someone wasn't so bubbly in the squad, then I wouldn't connect very well

so they want just to me to demonstrate that I that I could flex my personality to deal with that kind of

Management style and then they wanted me to get more management experience, which is very very fair within the company so

note-taking more my squad leaves on vacation take over as a POC or point of contact or

Which is like squad leave while they're gone

So I've already done a bunch of that and then I was set up to do a bunch more and I was offered by my

Squad lead to do some training

Which is awesome because that's a really good experience be a manager and shaped how that person is and then

In that once we got to like the training portion

I was in the training training is people and then I think I did a Monday to Friday one day Thursday

And then on Sunday night. I got a slack message from my squad lead saying

Next week you just gonna be on live channels. We took you off

of the training

So of course, I'm message back saying you know why would I take it off train did I do anything wrong?

And she said yeah, we'll talk tomorrow which was Monday, so yeah Monday comes around and at like 955

I got a slack message for my squad links lead saying

Yeah, we have a meeting at 10 o'clock

which is

Not enough not really enough notice for me because you know I sleep - 955 get up get out of bed then sit down 10

So I was a wreck so I scrambled to get up

Got out of bed got my camera set up in my desk. I usually have another monitor here and

Open my laptop jumped a meeting and it was

My boss - my boss's boss. I'm gonna start interrogating me saying

This is what those people said you were doing you showed up late for work that you're teaching the bad habits

You're teaching them how to skew stats which is complete utter bull

So to go by point by point so the first point with a gurus knew gurus ones that I was training

We're taught how to cheat the system and look like they're doing devil interactions by submitting chats open and then

Zendesk and intamin submitting them as a psalms so for those who don't respect that is we have a chat system

and he submitted a solves and

Immediately goes into Zendesk as a solved ticket for just a minute open it goes into Zenda Zendesk has an open ticket

And then he can solve it again

Well that doesn't count a double

Interaction all that does is it gives you time later on so you have two options you can do the notes

Inside the chat and then submitted solves, or you can just submit it open and do the notes later

I always did that because I was doing four chats you only required to do three chats um a time

But I was doing four chats at a time

So I didn't have time to go and do notes for each

Individual one so that I'll just omit them as open and then go back and insert them as solve both occur the notes in it

Doesn't count as two interactions that just kind of says one because you know the system is not stupid

So I kind of respond saying you know

It's definitely not true. That's complete bullsh. I don't see the stats go back and look at every single interaction

They'll match up with a chat not two so that was kind of put it on the bus

And then there's other ones saying that merchants frustrate me, and then you neglect them for waiting longer

Which is bullshit as well because what I do is if merchants frustrated

And what we're taught is like if merchants frustrated and let them vent for a bit

And then you come back and you answer them

So you know I'll go look the chat if we're still venting still typing cuz you see they're typing

I'll let them finish what they're saying and then I'll come back and answer once

They're done ranting because you can't cut off some when the ranting, otherwise they're just getting more mad

So I taught my guru as I was trained you know take the time take your time go to another chat

Answer the chat there and come back once there kind of finished up, or just don't rump and don't interrupt their

Their chat because it kisses people off and that pissed me off as well if I was frustrated

another point here

Merchants that were perceived as being frustrating. We're also being spoken to in an inappropriate manner

Which is true and that's that that one was the only valid one so when I get frustrated instead of taking our merchants?

I kind of just vocally say all this person's frustrating me

Maybe use a few swear words and then like joke around a bit especially if I love from if I'm live chatting with someone

Like one of my colleagues, I'll kind of joke around that way

But again that's not that's not customer oriented. That's how I do of my frustrations

I could be doing I could be putting on the customers or getting all closed down

That's how I stayed cool like I would do that and show my dog, and that would keep me calm

When I specifically said that to my the new guru is being trained saying this is how I deal with it

You'll find your way to deal with it

And then the second last point was neglected your colleagues by showing up late leaving early and not fostering an environment

Which they felt that they're comfortable asking questions?

Once again is bullying. I'll have a CCTV and my trailer, and I'll I told him unhappily share them showing that I

Didn't leave early. I never left early

I again like I employ staff remotely

And I put trust in them I I would expect the same out of myself so I always showed up on time never left early

I'm frequently left late, and I worked overtime

but I never left early and I said like you know what that's complete bull if you want all of sudden II the CCTV of

Me sitting at my desk

Not leave my trailer working my ass off and like it shows my stats right it shows how much I work it shows

How many more interactions per month I do BUTT STUFF over other gurus, so those are hardworking staff so again

I'm on this salary position

I want hourly as it is so

Like that really did frustrate me

The last point was we're used to trick the system and how to trick your SL to look good on paper, which is also again

You're this entire thing that's bull I taught them

That they should since they have a new SL coming in as well usually you have an SL a squad lead and usually they have

a tenured SL

Who they joined their squad but since we hired so much they had a new one as well so the head so I said hey

You know when you get to your squad make sure you know work your ass off

Ask as many questions that you as you can answer as many questions as you can keep your wrap-up times really short

And just do gently get do a good job, and your SL. Will love you

That's all I said that department and they just took that completely and a proportion

and

Pretty much. They said you know we're gonna throw in evaluate your employment at Shopify, which took me off-guard because again. I'm a heart

I'm a very high achiever. I work really hard. I train really well

I think I did a great job at training these guys the only thing that I messed up on is

I probably shouldn't have vocally got frustrated. I just kept that inside like I still do them like if I'm not on camera

But I should just shut up and not done. That's all like you know I told him that as well like you know

That's my fault my bad. It won't happen again. That's not like in my opinion

I don't think that's hey we're gonna get into your employment kind of thread and

Then I didn't hear much back

So I sent this big we talked we had a meeting in the entire meeting we talked about this

And then I sent a follow-up email just you know printing on the points voicing my concerns trying to prove

You know that this is all bullshit. I've been here back for a while, so I worked money to Friday

I think my cells on vacation in Ottawa and then on next Saturday

I got it. Cuz we worked that was the rear rotation so you worked on the Saturday

I got a message saying you know we're gonna have a meeting tomorrow ten o'clock

he'd be - that'd be awesome and

Yeah, so I same thing kind of you know scramble - my dad is go for my laptop

So yeah my SL got into the chat which was a zoom meeting and said hey, this is your HR rep

Marcus their name because I want to keep her name confidential and she's gonna

Talk to you about your employment

And then she left - I left and I was kind of like why would you?

just introduce it and leave cuz I already know my HR rep I've talked to her bunch and

Then the HR rep said yeah

We're we're gonna let you go without cause which in my opinion is bull because we happened sometime email thread saying you know

We're gonna consider your employment, and they just let me go that cause which was very frustrating like you know luckily

I got severance and all that so I cannot - bummed out and that's

But the fact that you know my ASL

Didn't say goodbye didn't give me an explanation didn't respond to my email just showed up said this is who's gonna fire you they

Remind me about my policies, and how I couldn't break my contract

I still had to keep my you know

confidential and all that

So I'm being very confident about this entire video because I can't share a lot of stuff that I that I know

But this is all public information every guru knows this

Really wasn't expecting to get fired over this it was not

Something that should have been fired of course. They have all the rights in the world to just let me go without without cause

But it's kind of a bummer because I was a really high performer in their company

I had raises I had great performance reviews. I was one of the top

I was like got the highest raise in my entire squad

I'm had the best first or second depending on the month of all my stats had a awesome review from merchants

I had between a 95 and a hundred percent rating and then they just let me go so obviously a little bummed out

But yeah, I did want to show you the entire experience start to finish of what it's like to work at Shopify

I'm the last thing you for I gotta let you guys. Go is. I want to talk about benefits

I get that question a lot is what kind of benefits to get Shopify and they do have good benefits

So I did have you know I started off with the $40,000 salary

And then you get around $50,000 with the benefits, so you have mostly cover dental

Prescriptions all that fun stuff so you

Have a good you have a good health plan, and then you get a $5,000 spending account, which you can put towards either

RRSPs to toward your retirement

Or as a spending account so you can spend this on anything that builds you as a person anything it builds your business

Anything along the lines of that you can buy like

Sporting equipment ski passes bus passes is anything like that which is awesome. I use a lot of that and

Then you got shopping Shopify for free which was awesome. I use that a lot, so yeah definitely good benefits

They flew you out or bust you out to a summit every year, so they didn't they again?

I don't want to trash Shopify it I still love Shopify still use Shopify

And I still recommend everyone to apply or be employed by Shopify. They are an awesome company, but I wanted to share my experience

It's my right to share my experience. I think should know my experience there, and how I was treated

I was treated very well up into that point, but there's something that I think that shouldn't have happened so yeah

I hope you enjoyed that I'm hoping something that informs you if you're looking to apply or in the

Application process for Shopify keep it in mind. Hopefully I cleave it on a positive note

I would always recommend someone to join Shopify. It is a very awesome company

They have awesome benefits awesome salary awesome people get to work from home

I work from my dog all the time. I could work anywhere in the world

That was awesome and again. I do not regret it. I would work there again if I could but obviously something happened

I'm not sure exactly what it was

But it was enough to let me go although cause if you are looking to join Shopify

I do have a referral link in the description below. Please use that it helps out. Helps me out

Helps out my channel if you need help building a Shopify store. I can develop your store again. I've been mad at Shopify Guru

2017 Tesla Model 3 | Track Test Update | Edmunds - Duration: 3:20.

DAN EDMUNDS: So we're back here at the track,

and there's something different about our Tesla Model 3 sedan.

What we've done is installed the 19 inch wheels and tires.

When we bought it, it had the standard 18 inch Michelin's.

These are the 19 inch Continentals.

These tires have a treadwear rating of 400,

and the 18's have a longer wearing

tread that's rated at 500.

The main thing that I didn't like about the 18 inch

tires, everything seemed great, but the stopping distance

at 133 feet was a little bit long.

And then when I was lapping the car,

there's just this feeling that there just

wasn't quite enough for grip, and it

was just a little bit less sharp than I would have like.

We're going to see if we can measure a difference,

so let's start off with 0 to 60.

[LAUGHING]

DAN EDMUNDS: There was a difference.

5.1 seconds instead of 5.3.

So a little bit, a couple of a tenths faster.

Didn't feel any difference, but the watch tells the tale.

Now let's see about breaking.

If we got that kind of improvement on acceleration,

we might see shorter stopping distance.

60 miles an hour and--

oh 128 feet.

That's five feet shorter.

So yeah, these 19's do something besides look good.

Over at the skid pad, we actually improved lateral grip

from 0.85 G's up 2.93.

That's 80ths of a G difference just by slapping on these 19

inch tires instead of the 18's.

And it's all working together on this handling circuit.

It just got a lot more directional stability.

I can really feel the nose pointing in so much

better when I turn the wheel.

There's just more grip, and you can feel it.

This is what I was hoping for last time.

This car has got tons of drive out of the corners,

and it feels nice and flat.

There's not a lot of body roll, but now there's

enough grip to really use it all, and really

have some fun with it.

Oh man, this car really feels a lot

more entertaining with these wheels and tires on it.

Wow, what a difference.

I'm frankly surprised.

I mean, I shouldn't be because any racer will tell you

that tires make a big difference in any automobile,

but I didn't expect what we saw here.

The acceleration time was better.

Stopping distance was shorter.

It pulled more G's on the skid pad,

and it was just more fun to drive around the circuit.

And over the weekend when I drove these tires to break them

in, it was a little more comfortable too because these

run of the slightly lower pressure than the 18's.

I mean it's a $1,500 option to get these wheels and tires,

and most people would do that just because they look better,

but it turns out they perform a lot better too.

I mean, it's a win-win.

FORTNITE METEOR GAME MODE "IMPACT" - Fortnite: Battle Royale METEOR - Duration: 3:40.

Yo know what is going on guys it is your boy Yogge here and tambry has a

brand new fortnite video so as you guys know basically the meteors have been

fallen today there's been videos and people saying oh

the media's gonna hit today people say it was yesterday but people say now it's

today the meetings are gonna fall in head-tilt I was gonna be gone and all

that well I got more information on him what's actually happening so if you guys

are just in a state tune in the video but first you already know we gotta roll

that intro

so guys basically your way that this was found out it as I believe one ninja

stream he looked at the comment and it started making a noise I'll show you

guys a clip from it right now do you hear that like that Bailey yeah yeah I

turn turn I turn my sound effects all the way up so it's like super loud so I

basically just made it a little like we're like Spacey alien type noise and

then maybe this is a hint to the next battle path maybe the next battle paths

will be alien theme they have dinosaur theme characters maybe the next one will

be alien theme who knows but basically what is happening right now is that

tilted towers is still standing the comet though it is getting very closer

and it is way way more detailed for some reason which obviously shows that it's

getting very very closer so till the towers is still standing there's other

meteors in the skies like different ones I believe that are falling I'll show you

guys right now it kind of looks like the guy to miss I'm not gonna lie coming

down but it's random other meteors for some reason coming out of nowhere okay

there's another video I just showed you guys what I was trying to talk about

about the meteor flying through the sky ahead and people say guys basically

everything is just visual right now not this really happen so if the towers are

still standing everything is still straight but people have looked into the

files of the game have found some pretty interesting things so apparently they

found a new limited time board called impact so this mode will most likely

they're saying most likely will be available for solo only for some reason

and has to do with something with the comet in the sky so here's what it says

this game Athena playlist impact and then playlist impact Athena game data

and all that so you guys can look at that for yourself so guys basically this

shows that there is gonna be a game of call impact and this most likely has to

do with the comment maybe this would be a game mode where tilted towers is not

on the map just tested I'll see how people like it maybe that's what they're

gonna be doing with this I have no clue but yeah this isn't again this is non

official it's dumping confirmed or nothing like that but most of these

modes in this section have been really since to the game at some point so yeah

so most likely this impact limiter timer will be coming to for nine and it has to

do something with the comment in the sky as you guys know it has gone way more

detailed and it looks way way cooler boy yeah

basically it is nothing too crazy is just people spotted comets flying down

out of nowhere different comments not the actual blue ones just other ones

that look like Rockets and then obviously the comment this guy got

closer and uh yeah when you aim into it it makes a weird weird sound and there's

been new modes coming based on his Karma so yeah alright guys I guess that's

basically it I mean there isn't really anything else to talk about a comment

hasn't crashed yet till the towers are still there and everything is pretty

much straight the only subject I feel in the motherfucking Hill if I catch a

hockey game is here

Why the Food You Eat is So Important for Spiritual Connection - Duration: 12:53.

Why the Food You Eat is So Important for Spiritual Connection

By John Foreman

How to Feed Your Soul Its no secret that modern life can be stressful.

There are so many things competing for our attention in this technological age that more

and more of us are living in a constant state of stimulation.

Were on edge and forever wired. For many of us, meditation is a beautiful way

to find stillness and quiet the mind, but many people find this quite challenging.

They cant get past the racing thoughts and fidgeting body.

What a lot of people dont realise is that the food you eat plays a huge role in your

ability to reach that deep meditative state.

That your nervous system and brain simply will not allow you to transcend your body

when certain nutrients are not present, or when youre in what I call a state of nutritional

stress.

You are what you eat is the old clich that you are no doubt familiar with, but have

you ever realised just how profound this notion is and applied it in your life?

As a culture, we tend to generally accept that some foods are good and some are bad

for us but beyond this level of understanding, there is no deeper meaning behind the way

we eat.

We eat habitually and not intentionally.

We eat without conscious thought as to what this food is doing within our body beyond

the momentary taste sensation in the mouth.

And all because we have become so disconnected from the natural world and where our food

comes from.

We have somehow come to a point in the human experience where we no longer intuitively

know what is correct for us to eat.

Let that sink in for a moment.

Why is it that we are the only species on Earth to have this problem?

There is not a single animal living in its natural environment that is overweight or

suffering a chronic illness as a result of their diet.

They just know what to eat.

They are in touch with the innate intelligence that drives their food choices, and as a result,

they thrive.

If this alone doesnt show how spiritually disconnected we have become, I dont know

what will.

To keep the body in good health is a duty, for otherwise we shall not be able to light

the lamp of wisdom, and keep our mind strong and clear.

Buddha Unconsciously eatingWe eat without thinking

about what our food is doing for our bodies and our connection.

Connecting with Food, Connecting with Source So how does this all link to our practice

of meditation?

The answer is simple.

We are not eating real food anymore.

The problem we now face is an overabundance of chemically laden products masquerading

as foods, and a system that makes it difficult to acquire quality plant food, which is what

we require most.

We are eating food like products that our biology does not recognize, which results

in a state of physiological stress that keeps us trapped in the primal aspects of our physical

body and unable to transcend into that infinite stillness of meditation.

If we fail to give our beloved nervous system the critical nutrients it needs to function

optimally and remain calm, we can become stuck in the primal, reactive way of living, unable

to transcend into higher levels of awareness.

To truly grasp the role of nutrition in our ability to enter deep meditation, we must

first understand what is happening in the brain and nervous system; it is, after all,

our interface with the world around us.

Our brains are brilliant, sophisticated and complex organs, but for the purposes of consciousness/spirituality,

I am going to focus on three parts of the brain that determine how we live, how we interact

with the world and how far up the ladder of awareness we manage to climb.

The Neocortex The neocortex is the part of the brain where

enlightenment becomes possible.

Where we want to journey to during meditation.

It is the area that facilitates creativity, learning, imagining our future and experiencing

our interconnectedness.

This part of the brain is hardwired to experience unconditional love, see the beauty in the

world and allow us to discover who we truly are and our place in the universe.

It houses the pineal gland which secretes DMT, the spirit molecule that essentially

allows us to feel connected to all living things.

The neocortex can, however, be a difficult place to reach in our modern fast-paced lives

that are fuelled by toxic convenience foods.

When we dont take the time to give the neocortex the nutrients it needs, we find

ourselves operating from the more primal parts of the brain: the reptilian brain and the

limbic brain.

Nourishing your neocortexNourishing the Neocortex helps us deepen our interconnectedness.

The Reptilian Brain The reptilian brain (also referred to as the

hind brain), is the most primal component of our brain.

It is 100% instinctual and interested in one thing and one thing onlysurvival.

It regulates our most crucial autonomic functions, such as breathing, body temperature, heart

rate and the fight/flight response.

The reptilian brain is often referred to as a cold-blooded serpent, completely void of

emotion and looking out only for itself.

Under too much control of this part of the brain, we can find ourselves living mindlessly,

being self-absorbed, avoiding change and clinging to the past experiences that we associate

with safety and survival.

The Limbic Brain The limbic brain is where instinct and emotion

converge.

Also a primitive part of the brain, it analyses environmental signals and assigns the experience

to one of our four fundamental programs: The 4 Fs: Fear, Feeding, Fighting and Fornicating.

The limbic brain becomes more active when we rely on processed grains and sugar.

It is this area of the brain where habitual living and obsessions with sex, food and mind-dulling

things, like alcohol and television, occurs.

It is also where patterns of emotional withdrawal and aggressive behaviour stem from.

So now we have an understanding of our basic operating systems, but how do we get to that

elusive neocortex and experience deep meditative states?

The answer doesnt lie in a trendy fad diet or supplement, it lies in the wisdom of our

distant ancestors, the Earth keepers of our deep past.

The only place we can really trust to lookto those whove thrived on our planet for thousands

of years, in harmony with nature, and with a connection to Source and a reverence for

life beyond anything we see in our modern day.

Dont eat anything your great-great-grandmother wouldnt recognize as food.

There are a great many food-like items in the supermarket your ancestors wouldnt

recognize as food Stay away from these.

Michael Pollan Discerning what is REAL foodWould your great-great-grandmother

recognize this?

Our ancestors considered food to be a sacred offering to the temple, the perfectly designed

house that is the human body.

They appreciated food, as it was a gift offered up by Mother Nature to be assimilated and

used to build the temple out of the most pure and sacred substance on Earth, the earth itself.

If we fail to adopt eating practices with this kind of reverence and continue to eat

toxic foods mindlessly, we will struggle to bridge the gap between the limbic brain and

the neocortex and will remain living in lower states of awareness.

The Neocortex needs natural fats to operate at its best, especially DHA, a form of omega

3 fat found primarily in seafood.

If these fats are not present in the diet, the neocortex will just struggle along and

maybe produce the occasional brief revelation but never any profound lasting insight.

However, it is not only omega 3 that is important, the saturated fat that we have been so afraid

of for the past five decades is a crucial nutrient for our nervous systems also.

Every nerve in our body is insulated with a substance called myelin, which is constructed

from the fats in our diet.

The neocortex does NOT operate well under stress, in fact, it will be essentially inaccessible

and hand over control to the limbic brain.

This may seem like a good survival mechanism but the problem is that the limbic brain developed

during a time when the only stressors we had were the occasional saber tooth tiger chasing

us, or a long-lasting famine.

It is not designed to cope with the bombardment of things competing for our attention in the

modern world, and it cannot tell the difference between the saber tooth tiger and the 100

grams of sugar you just ate with a bowl of icecream.

Best Food for Optimal Health and Well Being In summary, the Neocortex can restrain the

four Fs of the limbic brain and allow us to have meditative and transcendental experiences,

if we give it the nutrients it is crying out for and avoid the nutritional stressors that

shut it down.

Go for wholefoodsTry for a balanced diet of fresh, unprocessed wholefoods and plenty of

filtered water.

The following dietary principles are the most surefire way to nourish your nervous system

and Neocortex:

Abundant omega 3 fats especially DHA and EPA, which come exclusively from animal foods

such as fish, oysters, grass-fed beef, free-range eggs.

Sufficient saturated fat from coconuts, raw cacao, eggs, ghee, grass fed butter and

grass-fed animals.

 Clean, pure, filtered, fresh water.

70-80% of our physical body is water.

Magnesium rich foods such as green leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, raw cacao etc.

Magnesium is absolutely essential for the nervous system.

 Minimal stimulants such as caffeine.

Intermittent fasting and remaining in a state of lightness. Digestion comes

at a huge energetic/metabolic cost.

Eating a nutrient dense but calorie sparse diet allows this energy to be dispersed elsewhere

in the body, such as the brain and nervous system.

At least 80% of the diet consisting of nutrient dense, mineral rich plant foods with

emphasis on dark green leafy vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, sprouts, seaweeds and fermented

foods.

Eating foods in their whole and natural state.

Daily consumption of fermented/probiotic-rich foods such as sauerkraut, kim chi, miso, kombucha,

kefir etc. as well as mushrooms, which are super nourishing for the nervous system.

 Limiting pasteurized dairy products.

Avoidance of synthetic/man-made foods such as additives, preservatives, artificial

(ridiculously neuro toxic) sweeteners, margarines etc.

Avoidance of refined sugar and refined carbohydrates (white breads and pastas etc.)

that are nothing more than pharmaceutical foods/empty calories.

Avoiding the overconsumption of factory farmed animals and processed meats.

These animals are slaughtered in fear and kept sick their entire lives by being fed

foods that are unnatural to them and being injected with hormones and antibiotics (which

end up in your body).

Always aim for grass-fed, organic animal products.

There is a long-lasting myth that in order to be enlightened you must be vegetarian.

I used to also have this belief, until I was challenged to tell a Native American or Aboriginal

elder that they are less spiritual for eating animals.

They have a connection to spirit beyond anything we can even fathom.

I hope you have found this information somewhat enlightening.

To help you grasp just how important the food we eat is to our spiritual practice I will

leave you with the truest definition of the word nutrition, one that you have unlikely

heard before.

Nutrition comes from the Latin word nux, which means light. So nutrition is literally

nothing more than the processing of light. Quite an important thing to consider if enLIGHTenment

is something you wish to experience.

Trump, don't be fooled, North Korea may be laying a trap for you - Duration: 9:34.

Trump, don't be fooled, North Korea may be laying a trap for you

I applaud President Trump's efforts to apply maximum pressure on North Korea at the same time he is seeking a diplomatic resolution to the crisis caused by the rogue regime's development of nuclear weapons and long-range missiles.

But I have a warning for him: Mr President, be careful – be very careful – and don't trust the North Koreans. They have a long record of lying again and again to your predecessors.

CIA Director Mike Pompeo's historic meeting with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, confirmed by President Trump on Wednesday, is the strongest signal yet that President Trump's dual-track approach is paying off. But we have every reason to be skeptical.

History cries out for the U.S. and our allies to be cautious in dealing with the North.

Only the verified actions of the North Koreans should unlock a change in our policies towards them. No amount of their words or vague promises should ever be rewarded.

When it comes to dealing with North Korea, we are very much in the land of the unknown.

We went through a tumultuous 2017, filled with missile test after missile test flying through the skies of Asia –some directly over Japan – along with a hydrogen bomb test and North Korean threats of war.

We should thank our lucky stars that our worst fears never came to pass. And in fact, a new year seems to have opened new possibilities.

For whatever reason – whether economic isolation, the realization that his nation was on an unsustainable path, or demands by his Chinese masters – Kim has been doing all he can to rehabilitate his image and his nation's.

After Kim delivered a New Year's Day speech in which he embraced South Korea's Olympic Games that led to North Korean participation in the games, the stage was set for a rapprochement between the North and South.

Following multiple rounds of diplomacy between both sides, the world will watch televised coverage of a summit between Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in on April 27.

The North-South summit could formally end the Korean War by beginning negotiations on a peace treaty to replace an armistice that halted fighting in 1953. That might shape a dramatic change in relations for both nations.

Add in the ever-growing possibility of a U.S.-North Korea summit and even a Japan-North Korea summit. All this makes the world ever more hopeful that the long crisis on the Korean Peninsula could very well be coming to an end.

But before we get too optimistic about a peaceful resolution of the Korean crisis and start expecting the North to abandon its nuclear weapons, let's be realistic.

Kim has worked hard to build up his nuclear arsenal and has every reason – short of imminent regime collapse – to hold onto his nukes.

Kim sees nuclear weapons as his life insurance policy for his regime and for himself – a deterrent that protects his country from a military confrontation with the U.S., South Korea, or Japan – or all three combined.

Such a confrontation could depose his regime and end with the death of many North Koreans – including Kim. Only the most senior U.S. officials have any idea what Kim might be thinking or what he has conveyed to U.S.

diplomats. But the danger is clear: North Korea could be doing all it can to offer very broad guarantees to suck in the U.S.

and its allies into multiple summits – and years of protracted negotiations – without giving up anything at all. Meetings with President Trump and with South Korean leaders will enable Kim to look like a global statesman and boost his status.

His image and profile will be slowly rehabilitated – showing North Koreans he can stand toe-to-toe with the world's most powerful nation and be respected as an equal.

This would give the North Korean dictator a huge boost domestically, showing that he deserves the respect and loyalty of his people, as he has stared down and brought to heel the American imperial menace.

How will we know that this is Kim's ploy?. First, look for North and South Korea to make no mention of the removal of nuclear weapons in their talks next week.

North Korea has insisted in the past that such an issue can only be resolved between Washington and Pyongyang.

Seoul, eager to create the atmosphere for better relations and a diplomatic breakthrough, will likely punt this topic to President Trump's summit with Kim.

Next, look for the North Koreans to offer President Trump a deal to denuclearize over a long period of time, with multiple rounds of negotiations – but only after they get the benefit of a sit-down meeting with the leader of the free world.

If North Korea is unwilling to tip its hand before the meeting with President Trump – or is unwilling to make any concrete promises before the meeting that can be vetted by U.S.

officials involving denuclearization in the form of a roadmap – President Trump should walk away and cancel the summit. And from here, things get even dicer.

If the Trump administration's goal is to see a fully denuclearized North Korea – and if Kim is willing to talk before a summit – we must have Pyongyang define what the term "denuclearize" means.

The meaning may seem obvious – getting rid of every single nuclear weapon and never building another – but it's easy to see North Korea arguing over what the term means.

Once we define denuclearization, what exact time frame would the North Koreans agree to accomplish this? What would they want in return? We should not give the North any benefits until the process is complete.

And – of absolutely critical importance – how would any action North Korea takes to get rid of its nuclear weapons be verified beyond doubt? A claim by the North that it has taken action without proof is worthless.

If North Korea will not provide answers to these questions, President Trump's goal can't be accomplished. And that means we should not give Kim the photo-op with President Trump that he so badly desires.

And unless and until America gets the verifiable agreement that satisfies the Trump administration, our policy of maximum pressure on North Korea should be maintained and strengthened.

Clearly, we are entering historic times in Northeast Asia. Yes, there is a possibility that Kim might be willing to get rid of his nuclear weapons – but that possibility is remote.

Or perhaps he might be willing to limit his nuclear and missile force and never expand it. But history screams out.

It tells us to reread its warn pages when it comes to North Korea and realize that – more likely than not – Kim is laying the groundwork to dupe us again with false promises he has no intention of keeping.

Be cautious, President Trump. Chances are this is all a giant ruse.

Advocating Autism Acceptance to the United Nations, with Anita Lesko | EDB 123 - Duration: 23:34.

Hi, I'm Dr. Hackie Reitman.

Welcome to another episode of Exploring Different Brains.

Today we are honored to have as our guest no less than Anita Lesko.

She's pretty amazing.

She's just coming out with a book about Temple Grandin: The Stories I Tell my Friends.

She founded an organization and Anita herself is going to tell you how she was diagnosed

with Asperger's at age 50 and Anita, I'll tell you what, you don't even look like you're

50 now.

How did that happen?

Well, thanks for that compliment.

I love that when I hear that.

Well, welcome to Exploring Different Brains.

Why don't you introduce yourself better than I did to our audience?

Hi, my name is Anita Lesko, and I'm 58 years old, I was diagnosed by chance when I was

50 with Asperger's.

I'd gone my whole life not knowing why am I so different, why do I not fit in anywhere,

and had endless social problems throughout my whole entire life and obstacles to overcome

and all kinds of sensory issues that I thought that I was the only person on the face of

the Earth that had all this going on.

And one night at work, I work as a certified registered nurse anesthetist, and I was at

work and one of my coworkers had come in to the lounge at dinnertime and she was crying.

And I'm like, "What's the matter?" and she said, "My son just got diagnosed with

Asperger's," so I looked at her and I said, "What is Asperger's?"

I had never even heard of it.

Well, she handed me some papers and I started looking at them and the top papers said there

was like a little test, and it said, "If you have 10 out of 12 of these symptoms, you

have Asperger's."

So as I read down the list, well I had 12 out of 12.

And at that moment, I realized I have Asperger's.

And it was kind of like all the pieces of the puzzle of my whole entire life fell into

place and suddenly made a picture.

It was a very overwhelming moment to realize that your whole entire life just finally made

sense in that moment.

I went to the store that night on my way home from work and got every book about Asperger's,

read all of them.

By the morning, I knew without a doubt I have it, and then I went for a formal diagnosis,

to the same neuropsychologist that my friend had taken her son to, to get my formal diagnosis.

It was just a formality.

I already knew that I had it by that point.

It was a very life changing event.

It just totally gave me a whole new course in life.

Since that time, right after I got diagnosed, I wrote a memoir called Asperger's Syndrome:

When Life Hands You Lemons, Make Lemonade because my whole life I was always making

lemonade.

But I became a very strong autism activist and I'm fighting very hard for many things

for everyone on the autism spectrum.

So it keeps me pretty busy.

I continue doing my day job as a nurse anesthetist, doing anesthesia for surgery.

I still work full time; I've been doing that for 30 years now.

Last year for World Autism Awareness Day 2017 I spoke at the United Nations as a guest speaker.

That was a very incredible, overwhelming, and honoring experience.

My latest book that just came out as Dr. Reitman just said, it's called Temple Grandin: The

Stories I Tell My Friends.

Well, I've known Temple since about 2011.

That's when I first met her.

First on the phone, then I met her in person in 2013.

We became friends after that.

We'd talk periodically on the phone.

Well, about a year ago, we were talking one day, and Temple has a really hilarious sense

of humor, and she had said something and we both got into such a laughing jag, tears were

running down my face, and I happened to be at work, and I had to get back to my cases,

get going, and as I walked and we hung up on the conversation, as I walked back into

the operating room, I thought to myself, "You know, I wish the rest of the world could see

Temple the way I see her, because they see her as the scientist, the researcher, the

autism advocate, activist, and all that, but they don't see Temple the real person, with

her sense of humor and all her emotions and everything.

So that afternoon I called her and I said, "Hey, Temple, what would you think if I

wrote a book about you?"

Well, from there, it evolved, and over the next about 6 months, I interviewed her for

over 60 hours.

I'd sit at my kitchen table with my recorder on and we would just start talking.

At first we just didn't really have a pattern, we just kind of started talking about anything.

One thing would always lead to another.

We could start out talking about Temple collecting seashells on the beach when she was a child

to going to Kennedy Space Center and watching a Space X launch and almost parking in Elon

Musk's parking spot.

I mean the conversations would range from one extreme to another.

It was very exciting; it was a personal journey for myself but it also brought out the true

essence of Temple and people everywhere are going to be shocked; they're going to be thrilled,

amazed, and be laughing and crying and all that various things in between when they read

this book, because it's like Temple like you've never seen her before.

I can't wait to read the book, I gotta tell you, because knowing her just a bit as I do,

you know, being on the speaking tour with her and different things.

She is one unique individual, as you know better than I.

Why is it that it seems to me that women get the short end of the stick?

They don't get diagnosed until later.

I know you were just on our Different Brains Spectrumly Speaking podcast recently with

Becca Laurie, one of our board members who has Asperger's, as well as Dr. Kate Cody,

but speak a bit about particularly about women, your perception on this whole thing.

I think females tend to be a little more social to start off with.

Now I know some people I hear, females on the spectrum who talk about that they try

to pretend to be normal.

Well, because I didn't know I'm on the spectrum until I'm 50, I didn't even know to try and

pretend anything.

I just was myself.

I just think I was always the oddball, the weirdo, the eccentric person in the workplace

and all that kind of thing.

I didn't know why.

Nobody else knew why, either.

I think that the whole issue is that females are a little bit more vocal, tend to be a

little more nurturing, so I think that combined kind of brings out a little more social interaction

than males.

Tell us how you got into your work as an anesthetist.

I think it actually kind of found me.

I was in my third year working on my bachelor of science in nursing, and I used to be into

ice dancing and I was doing a practice session with my ice dancing partner and we were doing

some really fast footwork, trying to be all really fancy and we both kind of tripped ourselves

and went flying on the ice, and I heard my left arm snap as I hit the ice and I felt

this not a pretty feeling in my arm.

So I look at my arm and I realize oh boy, I broke my radius and ulna.

So I got up off of the ice and I kind of held my hand under the fracture.

I kind of actually reduced the fracture myself because I kind of pushed it back up into place.

I walk into the office at the ice arena and I said, "I need you to call an ambulance;

I need to go to the emergency room," and they're like, "Why?" and I said, "Because

I broke my arm," and they said, "What do you mean you broke your arm?" so I let

my hand go and my arm like dropped down and everybody was screaming.

I thought it was pretty funny.

I have a very high pain tolerance.

That's one of the characteristics, as I then learned, of people on the spectrum.

So anyway, so I'm at the emergency room and we're waiting for the orthopedic surgeon to

show up and the anesthesiologist was already there and he's talking to me.

He says, you know, "What do you do?" and I said, "I'm a nursing student."

"Oh, ok, what do you want to do with your nursing degree?" and I said, "I don't

know, just graduate and start working as a nurse," and he said, "Why don't you go

to be a nurse anesthetist?" so I'm looking at him like what's that?

I had never even heard of it, kind of like the Asperger thing, and he explained to me

what it is, and so it struck my fancy a whole lot, sounded like very intriguing to put people

to sleep and keep them asleep and everything.

So I started researching that, by going to the library, back then there wasn't like,

you didn't Google things online.

So you had old-fashioned researching and making phone calls.

So I had applied to Columbia University to their master degree program for that and I

had gotten accepted, and as soon as, well, after I graduated with my bachelor of science

in nursing, you had to have two years critical care experience as a nurse, plus two years

of basically the same thing as premed courses, like organic chemistry and physics and all

this thing.

So I started getting those courses done, I worked full time as a nurse in an emergency

trauma center while I was getting all those degrees, and then I started at Columbia University

in 1986, graduated 1988, took my board exam, passed it, started working full time ever

since.

Now it's 30 years.

Wow.

Now, on your website, anitalesko.com, you comment how you are a medical professional

on the autism spectrum.

There's a popular show on, The Good Doctor, and I just wanted to ask you your feelings

about how those on the spectrum are depicted in the media and on TV and in movies and so

forth.

I don't even own a television.

My husband and I never watch TV; we never have any time, so we actually gave our TV

away.

But I have watched a couple episodes of The Good Doctor which I wrote an article about

myself called here's my version of The Good Doctor called "The Good Anesthetist" because

it's kind of like they're depicting and I love to look at the Facebook page for that

show because it's kind of funny when I'm reading it, parents and people are going, "Oh wow,

this is so grand just that they're showing somebody who has autism who can actually be

a medical professional," and I'm like, "Yeah, hello, I've been one for 30 years."

As well as about 20% of neurosurgeons I would say are probably on the spectrum.

Yeah, there you go.

You're right.

You know, our friend Temple Grandin says, "Look, Hackie, I speak at commencement graduations

all over the country at these engineering schools and I'm going to tell you it's a big

percentage of them are on the spectrum."

In the medical community, I know as an orthopedic surgeon, we didn't get too many Aspies in

orthopedics because they're a lot smarter than us, so they went into things like neurosurgery

and stuff.

When I gave the first neurodiversity talks at the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons,

I said, "Look, you're already treating them; you just don't recognize who they are."

That young boy that you thought was so poorly behaved because when you turned on that cast

saw he went out of his mind, that wasn't poor parenting.

That's, maybe you should have used fiberglass instead of, I mean used plaster instead of

fiberglass and let them soak it off.

Or I should have sent him to Anita Lesko because she knows how to reduce the fractured radius

and ulna.

What do you think is the biggest single thing that gets overlooked, like say I'm a female,

I'm an adult, I just get diagnosed with Asperger's, what is the biggest advice you would give

to that individual?

Well, first I'm going to back up a second.

I'm going to finish; I didn't really answer your question before about the medical shows,

well, when I watched The Good Doctor, I love how they make Freddy Highmore portray autism,

except I think that they need, I wish they had actually more of him in the episodes,

as opposed to all the romances going on.

I know everybody loves that part, but Freddy, he doesn't have enough on there on every episode

as I'd like to see him on there.

They also need to put some real life stuff with what goes on in an operating room with

an autistic person being in that operating room.

I wish somehow I could contact those folks and share some things with me that I think

would make great episodes for them to have, to be picked him in the same scenarios that

I've actually been in.

But now, you asked about the females getting diagnosed.

Well, what I see is an incredible problem.

Research and surveys show that healthcare professionals lack the adequate knowledge

they need about autism and how to deal with these, this population, how to communicate

with this population, to know how to properly treat them and how to interact with them.

Well, autistic adults recognize that immediately, and what do they do?

They avoid going to healthcare professionals because of the fact that they get marginalized,

they actually get, I mean, it's so negative.

Myself, personally, I've had one after another negative experiences with doctors and that

type of thing, and everyone that I've talked to, it's the same thing.

And I even hear parents saying that about their children, doctors that they go to with

their maybe a little older children, or teenagers.

You get marginalized; some of those doctors look at you and they think you're lying, you're

delusional about your symptoms and everything.

Healthcare professionals need to be educated about.

Now I wrote that book that recently came out called The Complete Guide to Autism and Healthcare,

and I wrote in such a fashion that it can be used as a textbook for medical students,

nursing students, all healthcare professionals, dentists, anybody who has any kind of interaction

with patients, that book, because I'm autistic, and use my autism and my medical background

of 30+ years, and combine those two together to build that bridge between the autistic

community and the medical community, to bring it together so that there will be an understanding,

because the people on the spectrum, I just listen to these stories; it's kind of like

deja vu my own experiences.

It needs to change, and it needs to change soon because what will happen if you don't

change this and start, this is 2018, it's like as if doctors didn't know how to treat

diabetes or hypertension and the patients who have that come to them for help, well,

they don't understand, well, you know, then you get people getting disease processes that

are getting out of control, well sooner or later it's going to become a burden on society

because then when their disease process gets to the point where they have to be hospitalized

or whatever, their medical bills will skyrocket.

And the government's going to have to pick up that for those people.

So let's be preventive and educate people and start from there.

It has to start somewhere, soon.

With educating healthcare providers.

Anita, how can people find out more about you?

On my website at anitalesko.com.

I'm actually going to be speaking at many conferences with Temple Grandin.

Future Horizons, the publisher of my book, has us lined up for various places around

the country, so I'll be jet setting around with Temple, and I have to say, I do very,

very different kinds of presentations than a typical presenter, and I kind of put on

a show in the beginning, which seems to really entertain the audience, and so I can't give

anything away, but I'll just say that people are, by the time I make my grand entrance,

people are cheering and thinking this is like really exciting.

I just eat it all up doing it.

It's just something different and it's just very entertaining.

Now, you had this rare opportunity - I can't even imagine what it's like - to address the

whole world at the UN conference.

Tell us about that.

That was a very overwhelming experience.

When I got the invitation, I could remember, I'm looking at it like wow, oh wow, oh my

gosh, wow. then I remembered the day when it was the actual event.

It was March 28, 2017.

It was pretty cold in Mannhatten.

I think it was 36 degrees and it was a very light rain, because I kept expecting to see

snowflakes coming down.

And I remember walking up to the building, to the United Nations, and I just stopped

and I looked at it, and I was thinking I can't believe I'm going in that building to talk.

You had to go through security just like at an airport, what you went through, with that

way, I go through the whole security checkpoint, then I made my way into big, huge room, where

you always see events that are televised of the United Nations, and I walked in there

and I guess I didn't think about it, but I wasn't expecting it, and I'm looking around

and I happen to see my name like placard lit up with my name on it right in the front.

I took pictures of that because I couldn't quite believe that.

There my name was in the United Nations, all lit up in lights.

So after that kind of sunk in, then when it was my turn, it was actually on a panel, and

the theme was dating, relationships, and marriage, and Karen Zucker, the ABC journalist, world

news correspondent, and she's the co-author with John Donvan on that book called In a

Different Key: The History of Autism, she was the moderator of my panel, and so we all,

when it was our turn, we got up, walked across, and sat up on the panel, and I look around

the room, and I think there was about four or five thousand people sitting there.

I glanced up and I see windows with cameras up there, and I knew it was going to be televised

around the world livestream, and I thought, oh well, I'm gonna do what I always do.

I talked from my heart.

I never prepare anything; I just speak from my heart.

And I was the last one that she asked the question to, so I'm sitting there like, oh

boy, it's coming.

So I can remember when she turned to me and said, "So, Anita, you seem to be the expert

at this, because you've accomplished it all.

You have a career, you're married, and all this.

What's the secret?

What is your secret?"

So I just started off talking about, I think I talked about four and a half minutes, cause

it's on my website; people can hear my actual presentation there at the United Nations.

Just seeing all those people that were there and listening to, all these people from around

the whole world that were united there and talking about what they're doing to help people

on the autism spectrum, and just the overwhelming feeling that there's so many people that are

working together to make things better for everybody's life, that was just absolutely

overwhelming.

Well, congratulations.

You're out there; you're motivating; you're inspiring, and you've got this book coming

out, Temple Grandin: The Stories I Tell My Friends, and your other books and all that

you're doing.

Give us some pearls of wisdom now as we close out this episode.

My biggest words of wisdom, two things: Don't focus on the fact that you're autistic.

Forget about it.

Think of what you want to do, what you want to accomplish, and use all your focus of energy

on achieving your dreams.

Just totally forget the autism thing.

About that, saying again, I'll leave everybody with that to remember it, Jon Bon Jovi - "Success

is falling nine times and getting up ten."

Never give up.

Anita Lesko, thank you so much for being with us here.

Thank you.

My pleasure.

Alexander Springs: más allá de la superficie - Duration: 3:12.
