A former U.S. Marine being held in Moscow has been formally charged with espionage, Russian news agencies reported Thursday, a move likely to deepen diplomatic tensions between Moscow and Washington

A Russian court charged Paul Whelan, 48, on Monday, according to Interfax, a Russian news agency

The charges came after the FSB, the Russian security agency, arrested Whelan on Dec

28 at the famed Metropol Hotel in central Moscow, just steps from the Kremlin. At the time, the FSB said Whelan had been detained "during an act of espionage" but did not provide any details

His brother said in media interviews that Whelan had an avid interest in Russia and had visited the country several times, but that he was not a spy

Butina is accused of trying to infiltrate right-leaning groups such as the National Rifle Assn

during the 2016 U.S. presidential election. The Kremlin has denied Butina is a Russian agent and accused the U

S. of conducting a Russophobic campaign meant to weaken Moscow's position on the world political stage

Russian media speculation about Whalen has raised tensions in Moscow at a time when relations between the U

S. and Moscow are strained. RosBalt, a Russian news agency, on Thursday quoted an unnamed source within the investigation as saying that Whelan was caught "red-handed" in Moscow after receiving a flash drive containing Russian "state secrets

" RosBalt reported that the source told it that the information contained the names of Russian security officers, information that Whelan had reportedly obtained through social media

RosBalt said that investigators believed Whelan was trying to "friend" Russians online and "embed" himself in their private lives to obtain state secrets

The report suggested that Whelan went as far as going to family celebrations, such as the wedding Whelan was allegedly in Moscow to attend

Zherebenkov told Russian news agencies that the courts could hold Whelan until at least Feb

28, unless bail is set. Russian government agencies are on holiday until after the Orthodox Christmas on Jan

China Is The First To Land On The Dark Side Of The Moon - Duration: 3:28.

- [Announcer] For the first time in history,

a space mission has touched down

on the far side of the moon.

China's Chang'e-4 probe landed in the oldest

and deepest basin on the moon's surface,

making the mission a milestone for both China

and space exploration as a whole.

This isn't the first time China has landed on the moon.

In 2013 Chang'e-3 successfully touched down on Mare Imbrium,

a huge lava plain on the moon's surface.

But until now, China has never explored

the moon's mysterious dark side.

No one has.

That's actually why it's called the dark side.

It's not hidden from the sun, it's hidden from our view.

That's because the moon is in what's called

synchronous rotation with the Earth,

which means every time the moon rotates once on its axis,

it also completes one orbit around the Earth.

As a result, we see the same face of the moon every night.

In fact, we only got our first glimpse of the far side

in 1959, when the Soviet Union's Luna 3 took pictures

as it flew by.

And while we've had numerous landings

on the near side of the moon,

no one's attempted to touch down on the far side before,

and for good reason.

It's impossible to communicate with anything over there.

Any signal would get blocked by the rest of the moon.

But China's team has a solution.

They launched a relay satellite with a clear view

of both Chang'e-4 and the Earth.

And so far, the plan's working.

Here are the very first images taken by Chang'e-4,

the first in history ever taken from the surface

on the dark side of the moon.

What's more, you're looking at the oldest,

largest, and deepest basin the moon has.

Chang'e-4 landed on Von Karman,

a flat landscape that sits inside South Pole-Aitken Basin.

The basin is around 2,500 kilometers across.

That's about the distance from New York to Dallas.

And it's a whopping eight kilometers deep.

For comparison, the deepest natural point on Earth,

the Challenger Deep, is nearly 11 kilometers deep.

Next, the lander will release a rover

that will explore the surrounding area.

One of it's tasks is to study the composition

of rocks and dirt in the basin.

Since scientists believe this is the oldest basin

on the moon, learning what it's made of might help us

understand how Earth's only moon formed and evolved.

But that's only one goal of the mission.

Besides cameras and spectrometers,

Chang'e-4 also brought along potatoes and silkworm eggs.

Researchers hope to test how well plants can grow

and eggs can hatch in the moon's low gravity.

It's the first mini greenhouse to ever land

on another world in our solar system,

and might help prepare us for space colonies in the future.

Autism Does Not Define Me - Duration: 4:07.

Hi, my name is Stephanie and today I wanted to talk to you about why autism

does not define me. On this channel, I talk a lot about high-functioning autism

and I talk about a lot of the different aspects to do with autism to bring

understanding and awareness, and I also like to focus on the positive parts of

autism. However, autism by no means defines me. I

was talking to someone after I had first received my diagnosis and they had

mentioned how a mutual friend of ours on Facebook had the word "disability" right

underneath their name. So, it's a profile picture, their name, and the word

"disability." They probably put it in as their job or whatnot for Facebook, but it

seemed like the very third thing that they wanted someone to know about them

was that they were on disability or that they were disabled. And they asked me,

would you put autistic or autism there for you and I said no. Why? Because autism

does not define me. It is very much a part of me. It's part of what makes me

unique. It affects my personality. It affects what I do and how I react to

things, but yet it still is not what defines me.

Then what does? My job? My personality type? My education? While these things are

part of me, I'm not only an INFJ or only on the spectrum. I'm not just defined by

a list of strengths and weaknesses. I think it's especially important for us

to keep this in mind. While an autism diagnosis definitely helped me in

opening doors for help and understanding and making sense of things, I will not be

solely defined by what some people consider a disability. While others may

find that they are defined by other things,

I am defined by Christ. I am uniquely created by God's hand. I am this way and

the many things that make me who I am because of Him, and the things that I

think I can't do, He's going to let me know that I can

find success and be able to overcome those things through Him. And at the end

of the day, I just want to be a vessel that He's able to use to reach others.

Now, for those of you who don't believe in God, while I personally believe that

He's the one who should be defining you, I want you to remember that a diagnosis -

autism, whatever - one thing does not define who you are. A lot of people end

up limited and they say, well, because of autism, or because of whatever it is, I

can't do such-and-such, or I can only do this. And we kind of put ourselves in

this little box. I want you to remember that you are not defined by a diagnosis or

by a job role or any of those sorts of things.

while autism or whatever it is for you is definitely a part of you and might even

be important to you, it is not all that defines you. Thank you so much for

Where did EXPOSED Go? - Duration: 3:43.

It began on January 21st, 2016, with me holding a tripod like a gun,

stepping a few meters off a major highway in British Columbia, Canada

and asking one simple question about hunting grizzly bears

from the side of the road:

"How's that for fair chase and ethical?"

In the years since,

EXPOSED has taken you on some amazing adventures across this wonderful country.

We've explored the Great Bear Rainforest in search of spirit bears,

traipsed across the barrenland tundra in Nunavut on the heels of monstrous bull caribou,

and frozen our butts off on the Arctic Circle all in the name of photographing ice grizzlies!

Along the way, we've introduced you to

some of the most controversial wildlife conservation issues across the nation,

from the inhumane, unethical and completely unnecessary wolf cull in both BC and Alberta,

to the tragic state of our flagship national park as Banff's

wildlife is pushed to the brink by a glut of tourists and overdevelopment,

and, of course, to the issue that started it all, the grizzly bear trophy hunt in British Columbia.

There have been disappointments along the way

despite multiple attempts, we've yet to get any footage

of the Little Smoky caribou herd that's hanging on by a thread in central Alberta.

And just this past April,

we had to cancel a trip to the high arctic to photograph muskox after our filming permits fell through.

But EXPOSED has also had some glorious highs on our journey to help educate,

entertain and inspire you.

Seven of our episodes have been seen by more than 100,000 of you on Facebook and Youtube,

and after three episodes about the grizzly bear trophy hunt

o n which we helped raise awareness about an issue that has been near and dear to many of our hearts for years,

we finally won the battle.

In December 2017, the BC NDP announced a total ban on hunting grizzlies in the province.

This whole show has been a learning experience.

We started with crew of just three:

me, an editor/videographer straight out of school, and a producer that had never produced nature shows before.

Three years later, 2019 finds us poised to add more staff to help us write,

edit and film, and that means more content, more often, and more regularly.

We're going to be introducing more How-to segments,

monthly conservation updates, and a brand new feature called TrailCam Tuesdays,

where every few weeks we'll be showing off one of my trailcam videos of wolves, bears, moose and more!

And of course, now that we're getting serious about taking EXPOSED to the next level,

we'll be doubling down on our vision to expose

you to the critical issues facing our wildlife, with a series of brand new episodes

Caribou, grizzly bears, wolves, sea otters, killer whales and, well, you get the picture….

2019 is going to be our best year yet

and I want to personally thank you for sticking with us

A new tournament challenge just arrived and it is for sure the most challenging I ever seen

They are the Boost Challenges

The bladers are very powerful and the challenge is very long

We are just 4 stages away from the final boss, but lets rewind to the first stage

The first rivals is an ordinary 2* Valt, but as the challenges go on, you end up fighting 5* rivals

This tournament has 30 battles

Lets use the best from our arsenal to get to the final stage and we will get there

For today's first battle we got Akira, 5* with 4* Anubion

The theme of this tounament is the fact that all characters will use their boost skills

Get ready to expect the unexpected

Anubion is stamina type, so lets use spryzen

Another good thing is that you switch the rotation type that spryzen will use

This skill used by anubion gives it a 10* stamina charge at the start

It has 9 stamina now so lets try to burst it as we wont be able to get a survivor finish vs this

Using CODAP to Examine Bivariate Categorical Data for Association - Duration: 7:48.

Interpreting and assessing association in bivariate categorical data is an important

skill, since data that we encounter in media are often categorical, like the graphs shown

here.

Expectations for what students should know about categorical data are outlined in the

Common Core State Standards for Mathematics and other college-and-career-ready standards

documents.

For example, the standard shown is from the High School Common Core State Standards for

Mathematics.

It states that students should "Summarize categorical data for two categories in two-way

frequency tables.

Interpret relative frequencies in the context of the data (including joint, marginal, and

conditional relative frequencies).

Recognize possible associations and trends in the data."

In this video, we will demonstrate an investigation concerning association of categorical variables

that aligns with the last sentence of the standard.

We will continue to investigate the Titanic passengers data set to determine whether there

is an association between the passengers' gender and survival rate.

First, we will construct a bar graph of one of the attributes we are interested in.

To do so, click on graph from the toolbar, resize the graph to make it larger, and drag

a variable to an axis.

We chose to drag the Gender attribute to the horizontal axis, though either attribute could

be placed on either axis to investigate this association.

We have created a binned plot.

Click on the graph, and from the Configuration menu at the right, which appears to be a bar

graph, choose "Fuse Dots into Bars."

The graph has now been reconfigured into a bar graph.

Note that that were about 3 times as many males as females on the Titanic, as the crew

was almost entirely male.

CODAP displays each case as an individual strip on the graph.

To demonstrate, if I click on an individual case in the table, we will see where that

case is in the graph by the highlighting of its strip.

Given the large number of data cases in this set, the individual case is difficult to see.

Alternatively, if I select a group of cases, all of the cases are highlighted in the

graph.

Students sometimes struggle to interpret individual cases within a bar graph, but this feature

in CODAP helps students to make the transition from a graph where the case is clearly visible,

like a binned plot, to the bar graph where individual cases are not obvious.

Now, let's add counts and percents to help interpret the graph.

We see that 1731 passengers were male, which is 79% of the passengers, and 470 or 21% of

the passengers were female.

Let's investigate how the survival rate may differ by gender by dragging the 'Survived'

attribute into the center of the graph.

The bars are reorganized so that cases with the same value of the new attribute 'Survived'

are placed together and color-coded.

Note the new legend at the bottom of the graph, which tells us the yellow cases represent

those who survived and the purple cases represent those that did not.

Note that roughly the same number of males and females survived.

However, there were a lot more men than women on the Titanic, as you can see from looking

at the Count scale, so it would be useful to compare percentages to get both the males

and females on the same scale.

To do this with CODAP, click on the graph, and then from the configuration menu, change

the scale option to display percent.

This produces a

segmented bar graph.

This segmented bar graph shows that the proportion of each gender who survived is much different.

If we hover over the bars with our mouse, CODAP will display the conditional relative

frequencies for each segment.

73.2% of the female passengers survived, however only 21.2% of male passengers survived.

Two variables are said to be associated if one variable is related in some way to the

other variable.

Otherwise, if the variables have no relationship to one another, they are called independent.

To examine whether two categorical variables are associated, examine the conditional relative

frequencies.

Two categorical variables are said to be independent if the distribution of conditional relative

frequencies of one variable are nearly the same for every category of the other variable.

Otherwise, the variables have an association, or a relationship.

In this case the attributes Gender and Survived have an association, because the conditional

relative frequencies of survival rates for the two genders are not close to each other.

Females were much more likely to survive than males.

Segmented bar graphs are a useful representation to analyze association of categorical variables,

because variables that are independent will have bars in their segmented bar graphs that

look similar, whereas associated variables will look different.

The Titanic data indicates that the attributes Gender and Survived are associated, because

the two bars in the graph are considerably different.

In statistics, due to sampling variability, percentages may be approximately, rather than

exactly, the same, and the two variables still will be considered independent.

Students who continue to an introductory statistics class will learn about the Chi Square test

for independence for determining whether two categorical variables are independent or not.

How to Crochet a Star - Beginner Crochet Tutorial - Duration: 30:37.

Hello everyone, thank you for joining me, I'm Kerri. Today I'll be showing you how

to crochet this star. I've made it in 4 different sizes with this one using

8 ply wool it's 14 centimeters by 14 centimeters or 5.5 inches by

5.5 inches. This medium star, made using 4 ply crochet cotton is 9

centimeters by 9 centimeters or 3.5 inches by 3.5

inches and this small star using pearl number 8 crochet cotton is 7 centimeters

by 7 centimeters or 2.75 inches by 2.75 inches. I'm not sure what ply

cotton this is, but it's only slightly smaller than the 8 ply wool.

For the star I'll use this silver crochet cotton. I'm not sure what ply it

is, it doesn't have a ply on it and I've got a 1.5 millimeter crochet hook. A

darning needle to weave in the ends and scissors. Now I start in the center with

a magic loop. For a magic loop I put my hook on the yarn and bring the short end

over the top of the hook and then take the long end over the short end and then

put my yarn around the hook and bring the hook with the yarn in through the circle

and that's my magic loop. Into the circle I work 2 chain and 15 double crochet. A

double crochet is called a treble in the UK. For a double crochet you put your

yarn around the hook. Hook into the loop through the front and then you bring

back a loop. Yarn around the hook take your hook with your yarn through 2

loops, yarn around the hook and hook with your yarn through the remaining 2

loops. That's a double crochet, we need 14 more

double crochet.

Once we have our 15 double crochet we pull our circle tight. So we take hold of

the tail and ease the circle in. And then we slip stitch in the top of the first

double crochet. So this stitch here, just on top of the 2 chain. For a slip stitch

we put our hook in through the stitch, bring through a loop and take it

through the loop on our hook. For row 2 we start with 2 chain and work 2 double

crochet in the same stitch as our chain.

And then we work 2 double crochet into each stitch around and we'll need 30

double crochet. So 2 double crochet into each stitch around.

So I'll continue working around this row and I'll meet you at the end of the row.

Now I've worked 2 double crochet into each stitch and I have 30 double crochet.

Now I join with a slip stitch in the top of the first double crochet. For row

3 I start with 2 chain and work 1 double crochet in the same stitch as

the chain. I work 2 double crochet into the next stitch and 1 double crochet

into the following stitch. So 2 double crochet into the next stitch and 1

into the following stitch. And I repeat that all the way around the row. So 2

double crochet into the next stitch and 1 into the following stitch and by the

end of the row I'll have 45 double crochet. You need to

make sure you've got the 45 double crochet so you've got the right amount

of stitches for the star rays. So I'll continue around the row working 2

double crochet into the next stitch and 1 into the following stitch and I'll

meet you at the end of the row. At the end of the row we join with a slip

stitch in the top of the first stitch. Now we're going to start on our sun rays.

So we start with 2 chain and then we work 1 double crochet into each of

the next 9 stitches. We don't work a double crochet in the same stitch as the

chain. So just a double crochet into each of the next 9 stitches.

For row 2 we start with 3 chain and turn our work over and we're going to

work a joined double crochet over the first 2 stitches. For a joined

double crochet we put our yarn around the hook. Our hook into the first stitch

and bring through a loop. Yarn around the hook, hook and yarn through 2 loops.

Yarn around the hook, hook into the next stitch and bring through a loop. Yarn

around the hook, hook and yarn through 2 loops. Yarn around the hook, hook and

yarn through the remaining 3 loops. And then we work 1 double crochet into

each stitch to the last 2 stitches.

And then we work a joined double crochet over the last 2 stitches.

For row 3 we start with 3 chain and turn and we work a joined double crochet over

the first 2 stitches.

1 double crochet into each of the next 3 stitches.

And a joined double crochet over the last 2 stitches.

For row 4 we start with 3 chain and turn. We work a joined double crochet over

the first 2 stitches. 1 double crochet into the next stitch and a joined

double crochet over the last 2 stitches.

For row 5 we start with 3 chain and turn our work and we're going to work a

double crochet cluster over all the stitches. For a double crochet cluster we

put our yarn around the hook, hook into the first stitch and bring through a

loop. Yarn around the hook and take our hook and yarn through 2 loops. Yarn

around the hook, hook into the next stitch and bring through a loop. Yarn

around the hook and take our hook and yarn through the first 2 loops. We've

got 3 loops left on our hook. Then we put the yarn around our hook, hook into

the next stitch and bring through a loop. Yarn around the hook and take our hook

and yarn through 2 loops. We've got 4 loops left. Yarn around the hook and

take the hook and yarn through all the loops and then we fasten off.

And that's the first sun ray done. For the second sun ray we join in the same

stitch as the last stitch from our first sun ray, so this stitch here and we work

2 chain and then work 1 double crochet into each of the next 9

stitches.

For row 2 we start with 3 chain and

turn our work and we work a joined double crochet over the first 2 stitches. 1

double crochet into each stitch to the last 2 stitches.

And work a joined double crochet over the last 2 stitches.

For row 3 we start with 3 chain and turn. We work a joined double crochet over

the first 2 stitches. 1 double crochet into each of the next 3

stitches.

And work a joined double crochet over the last 2 stitches. For row 4 we start

with 3 chain and turn. We work a joined double crochet over the first 2

stitches.

1 double crochet into the next stitch and a joined double crochet over the last

2 stitches. And for row 5 we start with 3 chain and turn and we work a double

crochet cluster over our 3 stitches

and fasten off.

And that's the second ray done. I might just weave in my end so it will make it

easier. Now the next 2 sections are worked the same as this last section. We

join our yarn in the same stitch as the last stitch from our last section and

work 2 chain and then work 1 double crochet into each of the next 9

stitches.

For row 2 we start with 3 chain and turn our work and we work a joined double

crochet over the first 2 stitches. 1 double crochet into each stitch to the

last 2 stitches.

And work a joined double crochet over the last 2 stitches. For row 3 we

start with 3 chain and turn our work and work a joined double crochet over the

first 2 stitches. 1 double crochet into each of the next 3 stitches.

And work a joined double crochet over the last 2 stitches.

For row 4 we start with 3 chain and turn. We work a joined double crochet

over the first 2 stitches. 1 double crochet into the next stitch and a joined

double crochet over the last 2 stitches. And for row 5 we start with 3

chain and turn and we work a double crochet cluster over our 3 stitches

and fasten off.

I'll just weave in these ends and I'll be back and we'll do the next section.

For the next section we join our yarn into the same stitch as the last stitch

This silver cotton is like working with string, it's quite difficult. I think it

double crochet into each of the next 3 stitches.

And work a joined double crochet over the last 2 stitches. For row 4 we start

with 3 chain and turn and work a joined double crochet over the first 2

stitches. 1 double crochet into the next stitch and a joined double crochet

over the last 2 stitches. And for row 5 we start with 3 chain and turn and work

a double crochet cluster over our 3 stitches

and fasten off.

And I'll just weave in those ends to make it easier for you to see and I'll

be back and we'll do this last section. Now for the last section we join in the

same stitch as the last stitch from our previous section. And work 2 chain and

work 1 double crochet into each of the next 9 stitches. The last double

crochet will be worked in the same stitch as the first double crochet from

our first section.

And the rest is worked the same as the other sections. So for row 2 we start

with 3 chain and turn and work a joined double crochet over the first 2

stitches. 1 double crochet into each stitch to the last 2 stitches.

And work a joined double crochet over the last 2 stitches. For row 3 we

start with 3 chain and turn. We work a joined double crochet over the first

2 stitches. 1 double crochet into each of the next 3 stitches.

And a joined double crochet over the last 2 stitches.

For row 4 we start with 3 chain and turn and work a joined double

crochet over the first 2 stitches. 1 double crochet into the next stitch and

a joined double crochet over the last 2 stitches. And for row 5 we start with 3

chain and turn and we work a double crochet cluster over our 3

stitches

and fasten off.
