Youtube daily report w Apr 6 2018

Hey guys, it's Annika. Welcome to my channika.

So today, I'm going to be doing a makeup tutorial.

I'm gonna be doing a kind of "Sunset Glam" type look.

I don't really know.

I'm using the Take Me Back to Brazil Palette.

I asked people what they wanted to see,

and a lot of people sent me this kind of general idea

of a purple / pink / orange sunset look.

So that's what I'm gonna be doing today.

I also . . . I use one shade

from the Huda Beauty Rose Gold Palette.

I'm sorry. I think you can just substitute that, though,

for whatever you have.

So let's get poppin'.

I'm gonna start with the . . . Actually, no. I'm not.

I'm gonna prime my eyelids first.

I'm such a mess.

I'm filming in a different spot today,

because everybody always tells me to switch it up,

which I get. Because the gold background

does get a little boring.

I want to get one of those things

where you can have multiple rolls of fabric or whatever,

so that you can switch up the background whenever.

That's my dream. I want that so bad.

I just got so much Chinese food, and I'm so full.

I actually feel like I'm gonna burst.

But I'm going to my friend's house,

and I think she'll probably think

that I'm a little bit extra

because I'm wearing a sunset f-ing makeup look,

but I don't really give a f--.

Okay. And then I'm gonna set that

with the NYX HD Banana Finishing Powder.

This sh-- is so smooth. It's so creamy. I don't . . .

[whispering] It's so creamy.

I feel like my lighting is a little bit off.

So I'm just taking this random, kind of dirty brush.

It's okay. And I'm gonna take this orange shade

and mix it a little bit with the yellow shade,

and I'm gonna put that in my crease

as my transition shade.

I'll do this eye, because the lighting is better

on this side. Oh fine.

Just covered my face completely.

Oh cool. I like it when the brush is still kind of dirty.

I tried out this look earlier,

just because I wanted to make sure that it would work.

And I'm trying to just keep this

at the top of my crease, lightly blending,

building up the color.

Cool. My camera's gonna die. That's . . .

fun.

Right now, on Netflix, I'm watching Hart of Dixie,

and it's actually a really good show.

It's a little bit cheesy, I will say.

But there's such a drama in it. So, I'm entertained.

[burps]

Okay. Now we're gonna take this bright pink shade

in the Take Me Back to Brazil Palette.

We're gonna put that, um . . .

I don't . . . I honestly have no idea.

Outer corner and in the crease.

We're just gonna put that everywhere.

Don't go higher than the orange.

We're gonna put it right below the orange,

so that it's kind of like a gradient,

if you know what I'm saying.

I'm wiping off my brush a little bit,

and going back into the orange and the yellow,

just to make sure that it's seamless

and blended.

Now we're gonna take this purple shade,

which is the second from the bottom,

and we're gonna really gather up that pigment,

but we have to be really careful,

because I can't f-- this up.

We're gonna put a little bit on the outer corner,

and a little bit on the inner corner,

leaving the middle blank.

I suppose that I could use a smaller brush for this, but . .

I don't really give a f--.

And then going back into the pink,

and just making sure that that is defined,

because we don't want it to go from orange to purple.

You just have to go back and kind of

touch up all the colors to make sure

that the blending is how you want it.

And I think that's pretty much how I want it.

It looks . . . The lighting is so bad.

I feel like the exposure is all janked, but . . . Oh well.

Okay. So I'm gonna go into

the Huda Beauty Rose Gold Palette.

I'm gonna take the shade "24K."

I know that these eyeshadows aren't great on brushes,

but I really, really don't want to use my fingers,

so I'm gonna try and get a lot on the brush,

and then I'm gonna spray it.

That's a nut.

That looks so much more metallic in real life.

I'm literally gonna end my life.

Okay. The reason why I used this specific gold shadow

is because it has a little bit of a greenish-gold tint to it.

And then also just going back into the purple

to blend out the edges,

and also, to re-intensify the purple again.

There's this is one part where the eyeshadow

doesn't want to apply.

Like, right here. It's getting weird and patchy.

So, I'm going to put on mascara,

do my eyebrows, just finish up my eyes,

and then I'll come back and I'll do my face makeup.

Oh my gosh, these lashes are literally bigger than my d--.

I can't see anything.

My eyes are being weighed down.

But they're the Noir Fairy Lights by House of Lashes.

So now, we're gonna move on to my face.

For primer, I'm going to use

the Dr. Brandt Pores No More Luminizer Primer.

People are saying that I need to start using . . .

I'm literally using my camera as a mirror.

Can't wait to look rank as f--.

People are saying that I need to use

different products more often,

which I totally understand,

because I feel like I definitely 100%

do use the same products in every single video.

But it's just because, once you find your Holy Grail,

it's hard to move on. But I'm working on it.

I'm working on it.

For "conciller," I'm sorry.

I'm just gonna use the Tarte Shape Tape.

Because the thing is with the Tarte Shape Tape . . . .

It's just, like, every other concealer

besides the Tarte Shape Tape is just trash.

So it's not a Holy Grail, so much as it is the only option.

Where is she, though? I just had her.

Did I not prime my eyelids with her?

Here she is! This is just great,

because there's food and makeup

and pens and pencils all up in my bed.

I love being clean and organized.

I'm in the shade "Light" for my Sharp . . .

"Shart" . . . Shart Tape Shape.

Oh, damn. These lashes are so big.

Also, I'm breaking out like a motherf--er.

"F-- on your b-- like I'm Hefner,

She say she in love but I left her"

Okay. Gonna set it with the same powder

that I used before.

Is the exposure not really f--ed up right now?

For bronzer, we're gonna use

the Physicians Formula Bronze Booster,

not the Butter Bronzer.

At least I'm trying, okay?

I don't know if there are different shades in this.

I'm in "Light - Medium."

There's no mirror.

Oh, ahhh!

I heard that they released shades of their Butter Bronzer.

New shades, which I'm really happy about,

because their shade selection sucked.

But I could be wrong.

Oh girl, my hair is everywhere.

Everybody says that their hair is at their best

the day after they wash it.

The day after I wash my hair is when my hair

is at my worst. It's just, like, it's so static-y.

It's just too clean, you know?

Like, I need those oils to keep my hair . . .

I don't know anything about hair.

Like, I really don't know sh--.

So I was gonna use this blush,

but it looks really pigmented, and I'm kind of scared.

It's Sigma Aura Powder in Nymphaea.

Maybe we'll just get a little bit.

Okay. It's not super pigmented.

Okay. And then for a highlight,

I'm gonna be using the Tarte Stunner Highlighter.

Mine broke like the day after I got it,

so I re-pressed it, and it looks so janky.

But it's such a pretty color. It still works amazing.

I love the Tarte Highlighter. It's such a nut.

Okay. And then I'm also just gonna

highlight my inner corners and brow bone.

I need to do my lower lash line now.

Don't even ask. I don't even know what this brush is.

It's supposed to be an eyeliner brush.

I got it from Quivange, but it's not . . .

I could not do eyeliner with that, even if i wanted to.

We're gonna do my lower lash line.

I think I'm gonna take a shader brush,

just so I can smudge.

I'm gonna take the orange . . .

Actually, no. I'm gonna take the purple shade,

and smudge that closest to my lash line.

And then I'm gonna go into the pink,

blend that out a little bit, and then finally,

mix the orange and the yellow together a little bit,

to blend all of that out.

Okay. Your girl needs some mascara and setting spray,

and then we'll come back, and we'll do lips.

Okay. For my lips, going to use

the Stila Citrine Lip Gloss.

They don't sell this anymore.

I'm sorry that I always use it in my videos,

but you can just use any kind of

clear-ish, gold-ish, sparkly lip gloss.

That's what good p--y sounds like.

So yeah. This is the final look.

I hope that you guys enjoyed this video.

As always, leave more video requests

in the comments below, because

your girl is running out of ideas.

Thank you guys so much for watching.

Trump Is Tired Of John Kelly Telling Him "No," So He's Stopped Talking To Him - Duration: 3:16.

According to a recent report by the Associated Press, Donald Trump has completely stopped

consulting with his own Chief of Staff, John Kelly, on matters. Basically, on every matter.

You see, the Associated Press reports that Donald Trump was tired of being told no by

John Kelly. He wanted to do too many things that John Kelly just said, "Yeah, you really

can't or shouldn't do that."

A great example was the fact that John Kelly did not want Donald Trump to hire John Bolton

as his new national security advisor. Donald Trump didn't want to hear the word no, so

he hired John Bolton anyway. Now, the Associated Press says those two pretty much just don't

even talk anymore.

To be honest, we're already seeing the effect of this lack of communication between the

two, and Donald Trump's complete inability to take the advice of another human being

who might know a little bit more about policy than he does. We're seeing it with the tariffs,

we're seeing it with the drone strikes overseas, we're seeing it in every aspect of Donald

Trump's foreign policy, his domestic policy, and even what's happening within his own staff.

For example, Scott Pruitt. Even Republican lawmakers are calling on Scott Pruitt to be

fired, but Donald Trump doesn't want to be told what to do, and that's probably why John

Kelly himself hasn't even called for Scott Pruitt to be fired because he knows that whatever

he says doesn't matter to the president of the United States.

Donald Trump, at this point, is off the chain. There are no more adults in the White House,

not that there really ever were any. But there is nobody there even attempting to tell him

what to do anymore or how to do it or offering even friendly advice. The only people that

Donald Trump is actively seeking out at this point are Fox News hosts, people like Lou

Dobbs, and Sean Hannity, and Fox & Friends, because those are the people whose opinions

he actually cares about. He doesn't care about John Kelly, even though he's a decorated military

veteran. Didn't care about H. R. McMaster, same thing, decorated military veteran. He

only cares about ratings, and viewers, and approvals. He gets all of those things from

Fox News, so why would he even need a guy like John Kelly?

If I were John Kelly in the position that he is currently in, being completely neutered

as the chief of staff, working for a guy that refuses to even speak to you anymore, and

if he did speak to you, he wouldn't take your advice, if I were John Kelly, I would walk

out that White House door and never look back. At this point, you're only hurting yourself.

You're showing the world how dangerously incompetent not only you are, but the entire Trump administration

is. If you want to save what little bit of credibility or reputation you may have left,

the only thing you can do is get rid, get out of the Trump administration.

Avengers: Infinity War First Reactions Are In - Duration: 2:25.

The heroes of Avengers: Infinity War aren't set to converge on the silver screen until

April 27th.

However, as part of the movie's marketing run, Marvel Studios will be showing the first

30 minutes of Avengers: Infinity War to critics, fans, and general press over the next couple

of weeks.

One such screening took place in London on Thursday, April 5th, and it gave the world

the first reaction to the film.

Digital Spy Film staff were lucky enough to catch the half hour of footage, posting their

thoughts about it on Twitter:

"We've just seen 30 minutes of Avengers: Infinity War.

Can't say too much but it's way ambitious, it'll switch tones between different groups

(the Guardians sequence had a very different, look, feel, and soundtrack to the New York

scenes), and it's going to be funny.

Still no Hawkeye!"

It's obvious from the film's eye-popping trailers and the various television spots that have

aired that the film's cast will, indeed, be sliced and diced into groups.

There's the Battle of New York squad that consists of Iron Man, Hulk, Doctor Strange,

and Wong, plus Peter Parker, who teams up with them later in his Iron Spider suit.

Captain America collaborates with his Nomads group that includes Falcon, Bucky Barnes,

Black Widow, Black Panther, and Okoye — with the potential for Vision and Scarlet Witch

to meet up with the team later as well.

Then we've got Thor meeting the Guardians of the Galaxy, of course.

"Who the hell are you guys?"

The mention of tonal shifts in this evaluation of Avengers: Infinity War also lines up with

something composer Alan Silvestri once said.

The movie will feature quick turns in style, with the music changing to match each mood.

Just a few days before the first film reaction surfaced, Silvestri told The Hollywood Reporter:

"I wrapped Infinity War yesterday, and it was a really different experience than anything

I'd done before, especially in regard to the approach and balancing quick shifts in tone."

It also appears that screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely took some of the

humor that made Captain America: Civil War such a standout entry in the MCU and infused

it into the Avengers: Infinity War story.

"Doctor Strange…" "Oh, we're using our made up names? Then I'm Spider-Man."

The only downside to this whole thing?

Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye is still missing, even 30 minutes into Avengers: Infinity War.

Maybe he'll make an epic entrance in the second or third act?

We can only wait to find out.

Top 10 Best Superheroes - Duration: 6:10.

Hey guys!

Welcome back to Top 10 Nerd, I'm Ron McKenzie-Lefurgey.

Ah, here it is.

The vaguest question of them all.

The Top 10 Best Superheroes.

You guys asked for it, and your wish is our command.

I've really been looking forward to this; I'm just gonna go over my 10 favourite heroes

and gush about why I love them.

Also, I'll be including a few anti-heroes on this list because I love anti-heroes and

without them, this list just wouldn't be me.

If you finish this and want more, check out our video about The Spectre next!

Now get ready, it's time for the Top 10 Best Superheroes!

According to me!

Number 10: Wolverine.

As a Canadian, and an X-Men fan, and a fan of cynical jerks, it's no surprise that

I think Wolverine is awesome.

His regeneration is really cool, his claws lead to some wicked and brutal fights, and

I just love his attitude.

I'm not sure if we can show it, but that scene in X-Men First Class when he tells Charles

and Erik to fuck off is just gold.

Let's find out if I can show it!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzvQMwzOKIU A) Aw yiss.

That's my Wolverine. B)

Dangit, yeah we couldn't show it.

But you guys know what I'm talking about.

He's awesome.

And did I mention he's Canadian?

Number 9: Dick Grayson.

Oh ma god.

Lookit his butt.

Dick Grayson is just awesome.

Personally my favourite incarnation of him is Nightwing, but even as Robin he was quite

good.

With Dick, I just love that we've gotten to see his development, from a campy little

sidekick, to a butt-kicking superhero who's arguably cooler than Batman himself.

It gave me a sense that I could grow up to be whoever I wanted.

Sadly, I didn't quite grow up to be much like Nightwing, but I definitely changed a

lot since I was a kid.

I also really respect that he doesn't take himself too seriously, and likes to joke around,

but he does it in moderation.

What I'm saying, guys, is this: I love Dick.

Number 8: Spider-Man.

Specifically, Peter Parker.

This isn't exactly an original choice, but it's gotta be here.

As a guy who tends to enjoy lighthearted superheroes, Spidey has always been a winner.

Cool powers, a fun personality, an awesome, albeit kinda weird rogues gallery, not to

mention some pretty great movies, it's hard not to like him.

Also, this is me being Spider-Man at a kids' party.

Good times.

Number 7: Batman.

I mean, yeah, call me a fanboy if you want, but I feel like Batman is almost a necessity

on lists of favourite superheroes.

He was so damn influential, and he's been around for so long with so many different

interpretations that you're guaranteed at least one that you really like.

Except the nipple one.

You're not allowed to like the nipple one.

http://bit.ly/2F6OlcT Personally, I just love how cynical and gruff he is most of the time,

even if it goes a bit too far at times.

And there's something so cool about a normal, albeit obscenely rich guy, who puts his life

on the line to do what's right.

Plus, there will always be a place in my heart for the campy Adam West version.

So great.

Number 6: Reed Richards.

I still really like Reed Richards, but I particularly loved him as a kid.

For one, it was fun sneaking downstairs to watch the Fantastic 4 cartoon in the morning

without my parents hearing.

The theme song still sends me right back.

https://youtu.be/RwYldpZFwXc?t=230 But personally, I loved Reed because he was so smart.

As a kid was the claaaaassic nerd.

Like I was basically a male Lisa Simpson, except I played piano instead of the Sax.

Needless to say, young, know-it-all Ron wasn't the most popular.

I always thought it was so cool that Reed's smarts were seen as a good thing, and not

something to make fun of.

Although to be fair, I probably would have gotten teased a lot less if I had superpowers.

Number 5: Gwenpool.

Gwenpool is the newest hero on this list, and I'll probably get a bit of hate for

having her in my top 10.

She isn't super popular, people think she's annoying I guess.

But screw that, I think she's great!

I was totally heartbroken to hear they were discontinuing her series.

I was really really enjoying the development of her powers and story, and I definitely

thought she had the potential to be something really special.

I really hope they bring her back, partially because I friggin love the interpretation

of Baltroc the Leaper.

He went from one of my least favourite villains to one of my absolute favourites in a short

number of issues.

Read her comics if you haven't, they're great.

Number 4: Beast.

Beast is another one that I loved as a kid, and still really like.

Similar to the Reed Richards thing, little nerdy Ron thought it was so cool that this

big, blue, tank of a guy would prefer to use his brains over his brawn.

To this day, I find Hank McCoy to be one of the most compelling superheroes out there,

although I hope they age him up in the movies soon.

Nicholas Hoult is great, and his eyes are beautiful, but I miss Kelsey Grammer.

Not huge on his politics, but I love his acting.

Number 3: Iron Man.

Unlike most other members of this list, I actually fell in love with Iron Man when the

movies came out.

He was good in the comics, totally cool, but something about Robert Downey Junior's take

on the character just made him way better.

The sarcasm, the confidence, the sarcasm, the vulnerability, the sarcasm… he's great.

It helps that Iron Man was one of the best superhero films ever made, but that was largely

due to the awesomeness that was Tony Stark.

Number 2: The Doctor.

Some people might have an issue with this entry, but if you think about it, the Doctor

has pretty much all the qualities of a superhero.

He's smart, he's cool, he wears weird costumes, he avoids killing at all costs,

he looks different over the years, and most of all, he keeps dying and coming back!

I discovered the Doctor when I found a few DVDs at the library when I was a kid, and

I've been in love ever since.

And if you're wondering about my favourite, check out my list on the Top 10 Doctors!

Although I should say that after finishing Capaldi's run, I'd probably put him up

to number 2.

I really like Capaldi.

Come at me.

Number 1: Deadpool.

Whoaaaa whaaaaat?

Ron likes Deadpooooool?

Next you'll be telling me Deadpool likes Chimichangas!

I'm so surprised!

I mean, yeah, by now I think everyone knows that I love Deadpool a lot.

I love the 4th wall breaking, I love his powers, his comedy is riiiight up my alley, and I

just like that his comics don't take themselves too seriously.

I'm a super cynical guy, and sometimes comic books are a bit campy for me.

I love that Deadpool often says exactly what I was thinking.

Also, Ryan Reynolds is my boyfriend, but that's another story.

That's it for today!

Hope you guys enjoyed, if you did please smack that thumbs up button and subscribe to Top

10 Nerd for more videos!

Let me know your favourite superheroes in the comment section down below!

I'm 100% sure I'll finish filming this and suddenly realize I forgot someone awesome,

but such is life with so many amazing superheroes.

Cuba's Underground Gaming Network - Duration: 20:41.

DREW VO: I'm Drew Scanlon.

I'm exploring the world through the lens of games, and I'm doing it with the support

of people like you on Patreon.

Help us out at patreon.com/clothmap.

Despite being barely 100 miles from the tip of Florida, Cuba is a place many of us think

of as being isolated, cut off from the world, like a caribbean North Korea.

Indeed, the country is famous for its classic cars, their enduring presence partially a

byproduct of longstanding trade embargoes.

But while much of Havana looks like a time capsule from the 1950s, the country is slowly

working its way into the 21st century.

For instance, Cuba has Internet.

Internet access is still rare in private homes, but is supposedly rolling out to more and

more people every year.

The rest of Cuba's citizens rely on publicly available access points, commonly situated

in parks or public buildings.

At all hours of the day, pockets of Internet surfers can be seen around Havana, noses down

in their phones, or with the occasional laptop.

Whether you connect at home or to a public hotspot, you are greeted with a captive portal,

familiar to anyone who has tried to log in to free wifi at the airport.

To get my own login, I had to buy a one-time-use card, good for five hours of Internet.

Our guides Alfredo and Carolina led us to a small shop run by ETECSA, Cuba's state-owned

telecommunications provider.

Technically, I didn't buy the card, since each card must be registered with a Cuban

citizen.

Carolina showed her ID and paid the five CUC.

However, there was a guy selling cards nearby for twice the price, who would have probably

waived this requirement.

ALFREDO: Here's your card.

DREW: Alright!

ALFREDO: And this is mine, thank you so much.

DREW VO: On each card is a numeric username and a scratch-off that reveals the password.

From there, it's as simple as connecting to the public hotspot and logging in on the

ETECSA login page.

DREW: "WIFI_ETECSA?"

ALFREDO: "WIFI_ETECSA."

DREW: And I bought this card, so this is my "usuario."

That's a long string.

And once I use this, this card is done, right?

CAROLINA: Yeah, but you can close the card, so you can save time.

Okay, you have five hours, so your time is running.

You have Facebook, Internet, Instagram.

DREW: YouTube?

ALFREDO: It's slow, okay?

DREW VO: The speed is decent.

But more importantly it felt like the real, full Internet, not some government-approved

walled garden.

DREW: Hey, look at that!

It's not so bad!

It's pretty good!

DREW VO: There was a catch to this, however.

DREW: So this card won't allow me to look at political things?

CAROLINA: Yeah, it will, but it will go directly to my ID.

DREW: Oh, because you showed your ID.

CAROLINA: Yes.

DREW: Okay, so...

Wikipedia?

CAROLINA: Yeah, you can go to Wikipedia, but just for...

normal stuff.

DREW: Okay.

DREW VO: That's enough, it seems, to keep the whole thing self-policing.

Phones have limited data abilities over cellular, such as ETECSA email, but they connect to

wifi just fine.

The world's Internet is available, but expensive.

A dollar per hour of Internet is a lot in a country where monthly take-home pay ranges

from 25 to 50 dollars per month.

That expense, and having to go to a park to get online, is a pain if all you really want

to do is play online games with your friends.

Thankfully, there's a workaround.

SNET, short for "Street Network," is Havana's city-wide home-brew intranet.

This building houses a bank of servers called Henetica, and broadcasts a limited-range signal

that can be picked up with devices called nanostations.

Jesus is an administrator for SNET and showed us how the whole thing works.

His friend Roberto translated for us.

ROBERTO: The signal comes from there, from those buildings.

That's called Henetica.

From there to that nanostation, that black bag, for protection against the water.

The signal with the current equipment isn't strong enough to broadcast to everybody.

So, what they do is they send the signal and bounce from here to there, so it can get to

the whole city and everybody can stay connected.

Now, the whole Havana is connected to the SNET and you can access the wifi from practically

anywhere.

DREW: How many people does this tower give Internet to?

ROBERTO: 250.

DREW: 250 people?

ROBERTO: Yeah, connected to this one.

Several people are connected by cable, because not everyone can get access to the wifi.

For the location, or doesn't have the money to buy the equipment, and so on.

But they connect to it with cable.

You can see the cables here.

There's extensions of cable and cable, out to all you see.

Everywhere.

This is what they call "nódulos."

I don't know how to say it in English.

DREW: Node?

ROBERTO: Node.

Okay, like that.

This tower bounces the signal to the little ones.

There are 12 towers connected to this one.

It's a lot of people.

DREW: So if someone new wants to connect to the network, what do they do?

ROBERTO: He would have to buy a nanostation and build a small tower and he'd give access

to that person with the nanostation, and other people can connect to him.

That's how it keeps growing.

The thing most popular in the network is games.

Here, we love playing games.

We can't play a lot of games but the ones that can play in a local network, because we

don't have internet.

For example, World of Warcraft.

Everybody plays World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, those things, that's the most played in

this network.

This is not professional.

We invented this.

When I was connected, we were like eight people and it was all by cable.

There was no wifi.

Before there was the cable, we would have to carry our computer, our PC, and go to a place,

a house, anybody's, other house.

So we would play, connected by small cables and little switch of eight ports.

Everybody connected. Cable everywhere. The machines were old. Super Old.

It was amazing.

One day we were playing at four AM, five AM--we didn't know, we just love playing games.

We were packing up and helping each other carry our computers to each house.

One day we were at the corner of my house and the police came and it looks like a robbery.

It really looks like a robbery.

Then they came and it was like, "where are the papers of all the machines?" and...

"Papers? Here we don't do papers."

It was a long problem, all night talking and talking.

Also, when we started to take the cables across the roof we had problems with the law, getting

permission to pass it.

And it was really difficult because it was illegal then.

DREW: But it's legal now?

ROBERTO: Yeah, because we ask permission and they give us a document, like a license.

And there's no problem because it's only for gaming.

Allegedly, it's only for gaming.

In SNET, there's no profit.

There's no profit at all.

The money that we pay is in case the thunder damages the equipment or something.

There's no profit at all, it's all for free.

Mostly.

But we don't spend money on that.

If we spend money it's because we're trying to connect someone that is far away or is difficult to

connect because of the place or something.

And we help them because we like to add people.

DREW VO: We then went downstairs, where Jesus and Roberto showed us the software side of things.

ROBERTO: So we communicate through this chat.

It's called BORGChat.

Those two white cables are from the tower, from the nanostation.

Those two are the ones from the tower and that one connects to the switch.

That's a nanostation.

He has to put this one in the tower, to connect more people to this one, because the other

one is full.

You put it there and point into the direction where all the people are.

It's like a radius, like that.

And another one in the other direction to connect the other people.

From all the people who lives there, the people from the river, everybody.

That's all the little nanostations that are connected to the big one.

When they are gray, when they are dark, it's because they are turned off.

In that program you can control all the other towers.

That's the control of the whole network.

Those people are connected to that nanostation.

That's the little towers that are connected to this big one.

He just connected that person, that little tower, and now they have wifi.

You see?

DREW: Yeah.

ROBERTO: It's connected now.

Sometimes the people that are connected to a little station, between them they have

problems--in the computers, in the cables, in those things--and those problems come back

to the big tower, to him, and then they start a chain reaction.

Everybody has a problem.

If one is having issues with a computer or whatever, it transmits to everybody.

So he disconnects it and when it's fixed, he connects it again.

DREW: Do people ever get kicked off of the network for bad behavior?

ROBERTO: When they start making business with profit, for himself, we don't permit that,

we ban them from the network.

That's how we say, "baƱamos."

We ban him.

For cheating in games.

There's two or three people that are the admins of games.

There's one for Call of Duty, there's another one for World of Warcraft.

And they have, not employees, but they have people that help them to detect people that

is cheating in the game.

We don't like that because we are trying to make everybody even.

So, if we caught you cheating, we ban you from the game.

Not forever, but maybe in a month or two, you can play.

If you keep doing that, and doing that, we just ban you and...

I don't know, go to other network, I don't know.

It's the only one.

DREW: How do people find out about new games to play?

ROBERTO: Mostly we... "somebody," anybody who has access to the internet--good internet--downloads

one game and then magically it just comes to the network, and share it.

It'll be like, "let's play this game, it's good.

We can play on the local network" and everybody could play that.

And we just copy things, from machine, to machine, to machine, to machine.

We don't just go and download one game because downloading one game, here, one gigabyte,

long time downloading that.

DREW VO: To see the network in action, we walked the length of one of the ethernet cables

leading from Jesus' home.

ROBERTO: You can see the blue cable goes down to that house.

They're all connected, they're all connected to the network.

And from that house, the signal keeps going through all the streets.

DREW VO: When the cable terminated, so did the reach of Jesus' node.

But of course, there are more nodes, which turn into more switches, that connect more

people to SNET, and the network grows.

By some estimates, SNET serves over 20,000 people.

ROBERTO: See there?

We were walking over here and police stopped us right there.

It was very funny.

The cables from his network end here.

From this point further, other people control the network.

DREW: But it's the same network?

ROBERTO: It's the same network.

DREW VO: Dariel, alias "Butty," provides one of these switches.

ROBERTO: That's the switch.

All the cables, they connect there.

DREW VO: Butty is also an avid gamer.

So avid that he was up on the latest Zelda, despite only owning a PC.

Game consoles are not unknown here, but are extremely expensive, so the PC tends to rule.

As Roberto said, World of Warcraft is quite popular. Impressive considering SNET is, again,

not connected to the Internet.

ROBERTO: And... he won.

DREW VO: Henetica, in addition to providing servers for games and communication to run on,

also has a front end that acts as a sort of portal.

Clicking on anything in this list will bring you to a lobby where you can wait for others

before launching the game.

ROBERTO: And when the room is full, the game starts.

DREW VO: But it's more than just games.

ROBERTO: We have a football page where you can go and see the latest news from games

and players.

A chat room, also, where you can discuss after a game.

DREW: What is "Steam SNET?"

ROBERTO: They are working to be able to play football--FIFA, Pro Evolution, those games--in

that page.

This is like Facebook for SNET. Cuban Facebook.

DREW VO: There's even a Craigslist of sorts, where you can buy enough networking equipment

to make your own node.

ROBERTO: Those are nanostations and switch and things to connect to the net.

DREW VO: Jesus and Butty spent a few minutes geeking out over CAT6 cable.

But the site also lists gaming accessories.

DREW: Is that the only way to buy things like that?

ROBERTO: No, you can go to a store, but the stores are very expensive, and it's weird

to see those things in the stores.

The electronic stores here, they sell little Logitech mouse.

They're white, they get yellow, and.. bad. It's bad.

DREW VO: As Americans we weren't allowed to buy anything from state-run stores, but

we walked inside one to see what it was like.

Sure enough, your standard barebones keyboard (with 30-day guarantee) shared shelf space

in this electronics store with hair curlers and ovens.

ROBERTO: You can buy anything in this page.

A car, whatever.

DREW VO: This extends, of course, to game consoles, which, since most were listed at

roughly US retail price, are prohibitively expensive for most Cubans.

ROBERTO: You can just put here whatever you want to sell.

A place or whatever.

You post a picture, the price, comments about the item, and your phone number.

DREW: Where do those people get those games?

ROBERTO: Somebody travels to another country, they buy games, because they're cheap.

For example in your country, they must be cheap, buying a game.

And they bring it here and they sell it and whatever.

DREW: Is it okay to bring it into the country like that and sell it?

ROBERTO: They really don't care.

You can bring the game and say that it's for you, for your own gaming, and you just go

to that page and you post "I wanna sell all my games."

And it's okay, nobody cares.

DREW: But you're selling it for profit.

ROBERTO: Yeah, it's not really a felony, per se.

But it must be illegal.

But they just don't care.

DREW VO: I asked repeatedly if I could include everything Roberto and Jesus told us, and

they said yes.

It seems the government is content to let the people of Havana operate SNET as long

as it doesn't abuse its privileges.

The "alcohol in a paper bag" of connectivity.

This is fascinating in its own right, but what really amazed me is that it's all home-grown

and maintained free of charge.

People like Jesus and Butty put in the work to connect people, figuratively and literally,

because they know the value of communication, of cooperation, and what it means to play

together.

Doing so purely for the good of the people is something truly revolutionary.

This is the first video from Cloth Map's series on Cuba.

BOOKS I WANT TO READ ON VACATION || 2018 - Duration: 4:17.

Hey guys, it's Emily! In today's video I'm talking all about the books that I want

to read on vacation. So I am going to the Galapagos with my fam and I am stupid

excited I'm so excited what I am NOT so excited for is the plane flight

I really hate flying I cannot let sleep on airplanes and this is a long-ass

flight which means your girl is reading a lot and when it comes to reading on

planes I almost exclusively go for Y fantasy I

want a page-turner I don't want anything too long too complicated none of that I

just want like a good fun easy fantasy and generally speaking Y fantasy is

where I tend to find that and then we've got a few other books mixed in first I

have the cruel prince by Holly black this is a why I fantasy suppress prize

at just did that whole spiel about why fantasies on their planes and not that

good stuff anyway this book is about a girl named Jude her parents were

murdered when she was seven and she and her sisters were kidnapped and taken

into like the land of fairy and Jude wants nothing more than to become a part

of fairy like to truly be accepted there but she gets wrapped up in some

political dangerous stuff on her quest to achieve that and we go from there

everybody loves it you guys have probably heard of it at this point I'm

really excited to read it next I have another book that everyone has already

heard of and that is children and blood and bone by tobe a tme and this week

fellows le a teenage girl who lives in a world where there's no magic because a

ruthless King world in and killed everyone who could practice magic

including her mother and Sally is not down with that and so she has her own

powers that might be manifesting and she wants to fight back against this great

injustice I'm so excited I've heard amazing things

honestly a huge part of me is like extra extra excited to read this because of

adding on these reactions to her books success

she's just so endearingly excited about it which makes sense because like

anyone's book going out in the world like that's so exciting but there's like

videos of her reacting to the first copies of her book and when she made the

New York Times best and I'm just like oh so I'm extra extra

excited to read this book that I already what's excited about because it looked

really cool and also the cover is really cool and now some early-ish reviews are

coming in and everyone's like it's great so I'm pumped

next I want to read before the devil breaks you by Libba Bray this is book 3

in her diviner series fingers crossed it comes through on my library app I love

the audiobooks for this series which is set in 1922 New York we follow a big ole

cast of characters and they're all diviners aka people with special

abilities and the series is dark and creepy and wonderful and that just I

love it so I'm super excited for book 3 which I've heard is just as good as the

first two which I loved and I like to have some options when it comes to oh do

I want to read a book or do I wanna like sit back and close my eyes and listen to

it for hours on the plane and so I wanna know your book and I want this audiobook

and I really hope it comes through I'm not nervous at all about it not coming

through if you assume so I'm not nervous I'm very convinced that it's gonna come

in time and lastly I'm gonna read three parts dead by Max Gladstone this is the

first in and adult fantasy series we follow up Tara Tara I'm not sure which

she works for an international necromantic organization I forget what

specifically was called basically like necromancy a God has been killed and she

is the one who was put to the task of resurrecting him I've heard it is wildly

inventive and super funny and just really smart adult fantasy and I am so

excited to read it so that's it for books that I am gonna be reading while

I'm not sleeping on a plane but honestly it's fine because I get to read some

great books and I'm going to the Galapagos which I'm just so frickin

excited about even though I've been learning a lot about the conservation

efforts there and how tourists are you know not great for that although we do

provide money to conservation efforts so I'm feeling conflicted about that from

like a moral perspective but at the end of the day I'm really just stupidly

excited to go thanks so much for watching if you like this video give it

a thumbs up hit subscribe to see more of my face you can find me on Twitter it

possibly lit and on Instagram it possibly Lehrer and I'll see

next time
