Startup incubator Nailab invests $25K in East African startups - Duration: 1:53.
Startup incubator Nailab invests $25K in East African startups
When Nailab (Nairobi Incubation Lab) opened its doors seven years ago in Kenya, it wanted to be the Y Combinator for Kenya, Nailab CEO Sam Gichuru told me.
In order to accomplish that goal, Gichuru realized Nailab would need a lot of money, which it did not have at the time. That's why it initially began as a co-working space.
"Along the way we realized that the startups we got into the space that actually managed to raise between 10 to $20,000, who are growing, we realized we needed to put together a seed fund," Gichuru said.
The fund, which invests $25,000 in East African startups, looks for Kenya-based startups with potential to be highly scalable and able to make a social and/or economic impact.
"We do not find startups that are like what you'd find in other parts of the world," Gichuru said. "That is simply because Africa still has a lot more problems to solve that are quite basic.".

Recycled Wood Snowman Offers Seasons Greetings - Duration: 5:19.
Hi, Alan Stratton, from As Wood Turns (www.AsWoodTurns.com) At our local woodturning club, we give away
wood.
It is a raffle situation.
Sometimes the wood is quite nice – sometimes the wood is Not so nice.
The other night, they gave away this wood which happens to be – well you could call
it junk wood –you could call it salvage wood.
In any case, it came from a fellow's work and came from some sort of packing material
that they use and then they throw it away.
But why not use it to turn something nice.
In this case, I decided to turn a rustic snowman.
I've taken his hat and burned it with a torch, made it so it can come on and off,
then woodburned a bit of a face on him.
I think he's happy.
In any case, it is a nice use for what would otherwise just be burned.
Let's turn a snowman.
The wood is a 4x4 from the club raffle.
It had a couple of bad drying cracks.
I cut most of the cracks off on the band saw.
After all, I did not want a super fat snowman.
Then mounted the wood between centers on the lathe.
Wood this size does not take long to round off.
Then I need to cut a tenon on each end for my chuck.
Then part off a portion for the hat.
I almost had a disaster when I cut too far between centers.
But, fortunately, it did not bind.
I don't have a firm plan, I'm making this up as I go.
I'm starting with the hat.
I'll need something to hold the hat on his head.
How above a one inch hole.
Then how about another tenon so I can reverse the hat in the chuck again.
Then shape the hat with a small gouge.
I want to burn the hat to blacken it.
What well-dressed snowman would wear a hat the same color as he is.
I don't want to hold it in my hand, so I'll quickly grab a piece of scrap and cut a tenon
on the end to hold the hat.
Then gently blacken the hat with a small propane torch.
Now for the snowman body.
He will be a two snowball snowman.
I'm cutting a tenon on his head to receive the hat.
Then shape my snowman with a skew.
That hat tenon is coming in handy now.
My snowman is a bit overweight and needs to go on a diet.
I'm reversing the snowman into the long nose jaws.
Then I chose the largest Forstner bit that will leave a rim on the bottom snowball and
not cut him in half between the two snowballs.
At this point, I should be finished but the hat does not look good on the snowman.
It is sitting too high and the brim is too fat.
Hmmm.
I'm wrapping the hat with masking tape and gently inserting it into the jaws.
Since it is already rough, I doubt it will leave a mark.
I need to reduce the brim and make the hole a little deeper.
Then bring out the torch again and burn the fresh wood on the hat.
Now I'm on the home stretch.
Out comes the wood burner to burn his facial features.
I like my snowman.
He was a very quick project.
The wood was, otherwise, firewood.
He's a little rough but I think it is appropriate.
When have you built the perfectly formed snowman, with perfect features, with a perfect surface
finish.
My point is that he fits.
That's all for this snowman.
Please give this video a thumbs up, subscribe on my website and tell your friends.
Give your future self a Christmas gift - wear your full face shield – your future self
can thank me later.
I am Alan Stratton from As Wood Turns dot com.
Come back next week for a new woodturning video.
Merry Christmas to All.

WHAT DO I SAY AFTER I SAY HI? |Talking the WINNER's Way | ANIMATED BOOK SUMMARY - Duration: 5:26.
sometimes approaching someone to say hi is just as hard as knowing what to say
next In talking the winners way Lowndes discussed simple and easy-to-follow
techniques on learning the art of small talk these are my five favorite
techniques including a clothing hack three naked tips and a final one that is
the easiest and the most effective of all so stay tuned and learn how to
become a master conversationalist have you ever been in a situation when you
want to talk to someone but you couldn't find a way to make an approach a whatzit
is something that you wear that is strange unusual and interesting
something that could give someone an excuse to approach you it's kind of a
generous offering to that person who's attracted to you
so she can find an opening line to converse with you a whatsit is a part of
your clothing or an accessory that stands out this can be a necktie with a
retro design a customized sports hat or a cool eyewear accessory it's a plus if
you can back it up with a story since the purpose of whatzit is a strike up a
conversation when someone asks you where you're from don't end your answer with
the only place where you're from or else would risk an abrupt end to a
potentially great conversation share interesting facts about your city
information that can eventually lead to other areas of interest it's also
crucial to give an answer depending where you are at the moment or who your
listener is for example if you are in a museum and he or she asks you where
you're from tell something about your hometowns beautiful landmarks or perhaps
she told you she's interested in history then tell her something interesting
about your city's own history from here you can talk about other places you've
visited travel plans to passions in life
so this is similar to the previous technique when somebody asks you what
you do for a living never end your answer with just the
title of your job the least type of conversational techniques generally
speaks to whatever question your listener throws at you if you want to
lead the conversation to other areas you shouldn't give a simple
straightforward answer this could be about what you're studying what you're
eating to whatever hobby you are currently into
just remember to add details and if possible base your answer about where
you are at the moment and the person you are conversing with when introducing two
people with each other don't just introduce them with their
names again the idea is the same with the previous techniques if you want to
leave them hanging and if you enjoy the sight of initial awkward silence and
then stop talking after saying their names but if you want to be a dynamic
conversationalist Lowndes says that you should buy an insurance policy on the
conversation by adding simple add-ons you can add interesting facts or stories
about them to give them something to talk about this may be a profession a
hobby a talent or an interesting story for example is your friend into
mountain climbing then share something about his recent adventures is the other
person into fitness training then tell him that he knows a workout routine that
can help him increase his strength and endurance the better the connection that
you can make with your introductions the more you can help them converse about
different topics
as you approach someone examine that person's state of mind or try to pause
for a bit after you've said hi so you can examine that person's mood have you
ever experienced when someone approaches you and that person's energy doesn't
match yours for instance you're tired after a long day and your friend who is
highly energetic bombard you with stories instead of making a connection
it makes you feel irritated the book says that the purpose of small talk is
putting people at ease it's not about what you say but how you say it it's
about how your mood matches with your listener this is like the mirroring
technique that trained communicators use to connect more with their listeners
sometimes we even do this without noticing mirroring is copying your
listeners gestures tone of voice and sitting or standing position it's
effective in building rapport because we like people who are similar to us and
mirroring subconsciously tells your listener that you have the same
disposition and you are being agreeable

Hello everyone and welcome back to ForB's English lesson video.

Are you ready?
Ready to order?
Ready to order?
Ready to order?
Did you catch that?
Alright.
Let's try that again but this time with a hint.
Ready to order?
Ready to order?
Ready to order?
Did you get it?
Alright.
Let's try that again but this time a little slower.
Ready to order?
Ready to order?
Ready to order?
Alright. Did you get it?
The answer is "Ready to order?"
Alright.
This is an expression that is used by waiters and waitresses when they come up to your table
and ask you if you are ready to order.
Alright. So let's practice this expression together.
First slowly, then a little bit faster.
Please repeat after me.
Ready to order?
Great.
Now let's do that a little bit faster.
Ready to order?
Alright.
Now let's do that faster than that.
Ready to order?
Alright.
Now let's try that three times quickly.
Please repeat after me.
Ready to order?
Ready to order?
Ready to order?
Great.
Now you know when a waiter or waitress comes to your table and says "Ready to order?",
she wants to know if you are ready to order.
Alright.

10 signs you are experiencing a recalibration of your mind-body-soul system. - Duration: 10:04.
10 Signs You Are Experiencing A Recalibration Of Your Mind-Body-Soul System
As we transition from a third dimensional reality to a hyperdimensional existence we are experiencing a recalibration
of our mind-body-soul being.
A process that has accelerated in 2016 and now sees us in an intense period of recalibration through 2017,
on into the next 7 years.
This activation of cellular restructuring, a quantum make over, has been triggered by cosmic waves of light energy
flowing through and around our planet for she, too, is recalibrating, raising her frequencies.
This process has been triggered and is being monitored.
We are being guided, as a planet and as individuals, protected and healed.
The transition from third dimension existence to multi dimensional living is tricky and challenging.
Highs of intense, creative energy surges followed by deep lows of blurry head, physical tiredness,
poor short term memory and tearful moments.
We may feel internally conflicted, like we are being pulled in different directions.
We may be more aware of the control dramas others are playing out around us.
We may see through the lies and manipulations of people or society in a way we never did before.
This can be disconcerting, confusing and leave us feeling under the weather, tired and restless.
As our bodies recalibrate we need to rest, stay hydrated and eat well.
We are moving from a linear existence in the third dimension to hyperdimensional reality where time is quantum.
We will exist in past, present and future simultaneously.
This is the fifth dimension.
Full of love, abundance, flow and balance.
As we transition we move between the third, fourth and fifth dimensions.
During sleep our dreams allow our spirit to free itself from the dense vibrations of the body in the third dimension.
We may experience timeline slippage or acceleration.
This is a rare and incredible celestial event.
A unique opportunity to release karma and evolve.
10 signs you are experiencing a recalibration of your mind-body-soul system.
Your body is changing:
1.
You are more sensitive to chemical based products- skin irritations, allergies.
2.
You cannot tolerate synthetic food the way you used to.
3.
You experience aches, pains, colds and flu's, stomach bugs, blurry vision,
popping and buzzing in your ears and unusual headaches.
Your mind is expanding:
4.
You are actively filtering out "news" trying to disconnect from the fear and depression it generates.
5.
You have woken up to much of the lies and deceit played out in global politics.
6.
You are remembering childhood passions, creative outlets you enjoyed but forgot about.
Your soul imprint is changing:
7.
You are seeking quieter ways of being.
8.
You are in the process or have shed friends/colleagues/family who bring your vibrations down.
9.
You are drawn to meditation, yoga, healing therapies, being in nature in a way you never have before.
10.
You are aware of fluctuations in your perception of time.
As we disconnect from the matrix, the holographic third dimension, flowing with surges in cosmic waves,
we feel this mind-body-soul recalibration, and it's not easy.
Many people are restricting their diet cutting out wheat, gluten, meat, dairy products.
The move towards organic non GMO food speaks of this.
The fight to stop Monsanto also shows a movement of awakening to the poisons of the matrix.
The food weapon agenda is increasingly recognised and fought against.
Alternative holistic remedies to matrix made illnesses like cancer drive the battle for freedom and disconnection from
the kabal's hold and control of the third dimension.
All of this adds up to a bumpy ride friends.
We are to rise above the matrix, raise our vibrations in alignment with Gaia yet still exist in the matrix.
To be grounded, mindful, living the third dimension life whilst simultaneously attaining connectedness to the frequency
of the multi verses, of love, of universal oneness.
The law of free will dictates our freedom to choose therefore if we want help we must ask for it.
There are many benevolent beings whose own history interconnects with earth's evolution.
Along with our guides, they are willing and able to help ease this tricky transition process.
Meditate, connect and ask for protection, guidance and healing during this intense period of upgrade.
Realignment of our chakras to the higher frequencies of cosmic ascension is the heart of recalibration.
Balancing of the mind-body-soul trinity.
We are excavating the root chakra, rebalancing our sacral chakra, powering up the solar plexus,
opening and living through the heart, projecting our authentic selves through throat and activating our third eye and
crown chakra.
We seek alignment root to crown.
Self care is the modus operandi of the day.
This is ground zero.
Politically, economically we are all working harder, fighting a corrupt system plagued through mainstream media with
war destruction, fear and horror, this is masses of tough sticky dark energy to wade through.
All the while lightening our own karmic loads through meditation and upgrades.
This requires a change in contextual perspective for many of us.
The capitalist matrix dictates work work work, compete, feel inferior, work work work, compete.
This is not conducive to self care.
So how to navigate these stormy, challenging times?
I don't have great words of wisdom.
Family keep me mindful of a beautiful present.
Soul tribe keep me laughing.
Home is my haven.
Meditation keeps me sane.
We signed up to this.
Either as a lightworker here with a cosmic and personal mission or as a soul riding the karmic release waves on planet
earth as its panopticon prison crumbles.
This is a rare, momentous and incredible time to be alive, breathing and here!
When you're kicked back someday in a starship lounge enjoying a cosmic cocktail this is the lifetime you and your tribe
will be reminiscing about.
This lifetime with its peaks and troughs, waves of intense growth towards freedom,
unique experiences and true beauty of the planet and the human experience.
This is the lifetime we will all remember.
The one we cleared hundreds of lifetimes worth of karma.
This is it friends.
The big one.
Be in the present with your kids, your pals, your people.
Love and be loved.
Rest when and as often as you can.
Stay hydrated.
And remember it's happening to lots of us.
The force has awakened, the red pill swallowed, Kansas is going bye bye and the new earth is where we are headed.
Stay relaxed beautiful people, be calm and go with the flow, meditate and give yourself some love.
Peace beautiful people.

The Worlds Longest Subway Platform - Duration: 3:55.
This is the longest subway platform in the world. It is 3501 feet long and serves as
3 different stops for downtown Chicago. It's part of the State Street Subway line which
is serviced by the Chicago Red Line. To walk from one end to the other is about 4 city
Blocks, so we better get started.
The Chicago Red Line services the north and south sides of the city. It runs 23.4 miles
and has a total of 33 stops. These nine stops on the Red line make up the entire State Street
Subway. The worlds longest subway platform runs from Lake to Jackson.
Construction started on the platform December 17, 1938, and continued for 5 years even with
the onset of WW2. In fact, they had to get special priority rating from the War Production
board to continue construction because Chicago's industrial industry was so curial
to the war time effort.
During the war Chicago was busy pumping out plane engines, parachutes, and torpedoes.
To keep the city operating efficiently we needed a Rapid Transportation service. Even
before the war, downtown congestion was reaching a breaking point. Constructing the subway
was no easy task as boring a hole 5 miles under a city was bloody hard work. The conditions
were tough, temperatures would easily reach 110 degrees and underground work was always
pressurized to prevent the tunnel cave-ins. The miners or "muckers" as they were called,
carved away the chunks of clay muck with a knife driven by a tugger. These Chucks, which
were referred to as "dogs" were then carted to the surface. 2 million cubic yards of clay
had to be excavated to create the tunnel, most of which would end up creating Chicago's
beautiful lakefront.
With the onset of the War, construction faced even more challenges.
Sourcing materials such as steel and bronze became difficult as they were being used for
bigger things
During construction, they build one long continues platform which is accessed by subterranean
mezzanine-levels. This section serves the busiest section of downtown Chicago so the
mezzanines levels allow access at every block
The benefits of such a design were to combat the cities rising population and demand on
transportation. Which at the time, Chicago saw no ease in sight. The bustling downtown
would have 8 mezzanine's built, one for every block. Each 4 access points, that provided
for commuters and even distribution on the platform.
To reduce congestion when boarding and alighting the trains, the north, and southbound stops
could be staggered, a practice that was utilized.
Originally the platform had 4 spotting points, however today there are
only 3.
If you do walk the whole platform, you will find the remnants of the old Washington stop.
Trains ceased stopping here in late 2006 due to the construction of Block 37 and its proposed
superstation. The superstation was supposed to be an express train Line to O'hare and
Midway and after spending over 200 million dollars on it, they figured out it wasnt financially
viable and the project was abandoned.
The State Street subway officially opened on October 16, 1943, and boasted many star
features such as soundproof telephone booths, escalators and fluorescing lighting a first
of its kind on a project of this scale. If you are asked to guess which Chicago station
is the busiest you would right in guessing its on the Red line. The Red line carries
23 million passengers a year, 10 million of which utilize the state street subway. The
busiest of those stops is Lake and State, with the most reason numbers showing a ridership
of 600,000 a month.
Of the 10 million people who rode the State street subway last year, I'm sure not many
of them knew about the record and probably only a handful have walked the entire platform.
If you're interested in stories like this and other stories about Chicago history. Make
sure you check out the other videos on my channel and subscribe. I want to say thank
you to Andrew for helping me shoot this video.
