I want to make sure that every single day that you are alive that you make it
count and you take the sweeter choices of life that God has given you because I
want to ask you right now if this was your last thirty Seconds to breathe how
would you be remembered well you're a giver encouraged or where you were take
up will you a bitter person did you encourage people to in your actions in
your life did you help them or did you discourage them did you take that time
to say hey how you doing and they look to the ground and say oh you know I'm
okay no look at me how are you doing we are here for one
another this is the ministry this is Jesus this is the light and I want to
tell you I'm sure that if any one of us were as was at a road and there was a
three year old kid in the middle of the street sitting down playing with rocks
on the street and a bus was coming and the bus was about to kill him you have
plenty of time to get up off your seat go save that kid will you say that kid
of course you will you don't know his name you're gonna say that kid you don't
know his religion you're gonna save that kid you don't know his sexual
orientation you're gonna save that kid because what we are the light and love
in the bridge to Jesus Christ we need to understand that it's not just doing what
we think we need to achieve or have some people think that things get easier when
you get married go talk to some married people some single people are like I'm
not happy but I know I'm gonna be happy when I get married dude if you ain't
happy single you ain't gonna be happy married can you hear an Amen yeah you
guys already know it right you got talking so what do you want how do you
act who are you make today count dream big
only execution matters burn that into your nervous system get a tattoo do
whatever you need to do to remind yourself only execution matters thinking
about it feeling good about it those are awesome but if you have a vision of
something you're trying to do become whatever and you don't execute against
it and I don't need you to want to bail build a big business if you tell me you
want to be the greatest parent of all time then I'm gonna ask you what are you
doing to execute on that goal what are you doing how do you define it
what are your deliverables what are the metrics by which you're judging yourself
and by the way if you don't want a grand goal you don't need one but then say
what I'm trying to do is get centered I'm trying to experience happiness even
that you can begin to look at ways that you can improve that it's not enough to
have a great idea and the focus and the conscientiousness to see it to fruition
you must have the strength and the resolve and the courage to pursue that
idea even when the rest of the world thinks you're insane time and time again
if you look at the stories of extraordinarily important entrepreneurs
there is almost always a moment when they are the only ones who believe in
the value of what they're doing you know I tell in my book the story of my book
David and Goliath the story of invar comprar - I key a and the crucial moment
in the in the story of IKEA is when he faces a boycott from the other furniture
manufacturers in Sweden and he's about to go out of business and in desperation
he moves his operations across the Baltic Sea from Sweden to Poland and
sets up shop in Poland and that's what IKEA is IKEA is essentially furniture
ship flat made in Poland that's the original elevator pitch for IKEA what's
interesting about that as he does it in 1961 at the height of the Cold War at a
time when East and West Communist world and free world are closer to outright
war than at any other time in history a guy living in the West Sweden
crosses the pond to Poland the Iron Curtain and sets up shop you cannot
imagine what a controversial move that was that's like that would be like
Walmart open operations in North Korea literally it's on that level of kind of
eyebrow-raising you've got to be kidding me
who is this guy kind of thing but he does it and he persists and he turns his
back on all those critics why because he is a deeply disagreeable person didn't
need people to agree with him right and that's how he's able to build IKEA into
this extraordinary runaway success story that's very hard to do as human beings
we are hardwired to want the approval of our peers dress is not your enemy
there's another myth which is Oh stress diminishes my energy stress gets makes
me unproductive stress makes me tired stress is actually a very valuable tool
it's a force that pushes you past your comfort zone and extends and grows your
capability intellectually when you're pushed against the tough problems or a
deadline it increases your your mental capability physically when you are
pushed beyond your physical comfort zone whether it's you running more or lifting
more weights or doing more physically that will actually grow your capability
but here's the key stress is not the enemy a lack of refueling and renewing
and recovery against the stress you face every day at work is really what
depletes your resources and causes you to lose your productivity to lose your
momentum to lose your motivation to lose your energy here's what I'm suggesting
every day find some time to recover and renew again stress some ideas your work
in one of the best things you do one hour a day to work out push yourself
renew yourself your energy another simple idea meditation
meditation is gone mainstream it's nothing new agey is nothing soft there's
a ton scientific data that will show you to
renew your energy and your mental focus so you are at your product the best
meditation is a great way to do do that number another simple tip to recover is
just shift gears so if you were working on a piece of creative work picked up
something maybe some light reading for 10 or 15 minutes something that makes
you feel a bit relaxed it will give you that recovery and then the final tip
that is really really important go for a walk you know just go walk around the
block so you reset your mindset so you come back even more energized as it was
there a moment when you saw what was being built and it suddenly started
taking off and you thought wait a sec there's actually could be something huge
not just a personal project that I'm getting nice feedback on but a kind of
an explosive development to the whole technology world not really I mean the
big point for me really was not when it was becoming huge it was when it was
becoming little right the big point for me was not being alone and having ten
maybe a hundred people being involved that was a big point then everything
else was very gradual going from a hundred people to a million people is
not a big deal to me well I mean maybe it is if you're if you want to sell your
result yeah it's a huge deal don't get me wrong but if you're interested in the
technology and you're interested in the project the big part was getting the
community then the community grew gradually and there's actually not a
single point where I went like wow that just took off because it I mean it took
a long time relatively like those words self-help or self
management or self-improvement I don't really like what those words have come
to mean these days because there's a lot of people out there that are constantly
trying to improve themselves by looking for the one change the one change right
the one change in their life that's gonna make their dreams come true and
even worse on top of that there's a lot of people out there a lot of self-help
guru these hyperactive motivational speakers
and these other self-appointed modern Zen yoga warriors that they're
trying to sell the one thing they're trying to sell the nine steps or the
enlightened path that's gonna allow you to unlock all of your human potential
and fulfill the dreams so you can live the life that you've you've always
wanted to live
now I'm no guru and I definitely don't claim to be I'm just a man but I will
tell you this it isn't one thing and it isn't ten things and it isn't a hundred
things it isn't a quick path and there are no
shortcuts
meditation won't get you there and neither will a miracle drug or an
organic supplement or some superfood
getting better isn't a hack or a trick or all one change that you need to make
getting better is a campaign it's a campaign it's a daily a weekly it's an
hourly fight an incessant fight that doesn't stop against weakness and
against temptation and against laziness it's a campaign of discipline the
campaign of hard work and dedication it's waking up early and going to bed
late and grinding out every second in between every single day so you want to
get better you want to self-improve stop looking for a shortcut and go find your
alarm clock and find your discipline and fling your guts and your passion and
your drive and find that you will and then and then you will find your freedom
