I've got a simple, stylish idea for you that will take your Christmas decorating
to a whole new level here's how to create a succulent Christmas tree
centerpiece that will be the talk of the table! I've started by creating a cone or
Christmas tree shape just out of a bit of a chicken wire - just by winding the
wire in on itself now I'm going to stuff it full of
sphagnum moss. This moss has first been moistened, so I'm just going to
squeeze out a little bit of that water and then packing in really tightly and
you could also use coconut coir if you wanted to. I've just got my hands on one
of Northcote Pottery's low Italian Terracotta Bowl and I filled it with
pebbles for a little bit of weight, now we just need to position our stuffed
tree on top of the bowl. Now comes the fun part
decorating our succulent tree - I got this pretty selection of succulent
cuttings through mail order but you could always steal some off your family
and friends! I'm using mainly rosette style succulents which don't have much
of a stem - so I fit some floristry wire through the back of them so I can just
poke them in if you're using cuttings with a decent stem simply poke a hole in
the moss with a chopstick and stick them in then just repeat the process until
the whole tree is smothered with succulents. Choose succulents with
contrasting colours and textures for real impact and add a few Christmassy baubles
for added sparkle. TA DAH! So your succulent Christmas tree is sure to be the star of
your Christmas festivities!
