"Legends" by Kelsea Ballerini plays in intro
Hi everybody! So, today I'm gonna be filming a hair tutorial and the hair tutorial
I'm filming is the knotted braid into a side ponytail flip. Now, I know that sounds
confusing, but I promise it's not.
So, we're gonna go over the things you're gonna need first.
(bubbles sound effect plays)
So, the things you're gonna need are a brush or a comb the
reason why I say or a comb is because sometimes it's easier to part your hair
if you have a comb. Because you will have to part it for this, but you can use your
finger or a bobby pin as well. So, it doesn't actually have to be a comb. Um,
the next thing you're gonna need is a small hair elastic. I use Rainbow Loom
bands, but - that are clear, but you can use other ones. The reason why I use those
specifically is because I do have a latex allergy. So, I cannot use any other
regular hair bands um, because of my latex allergy. So, that's why I use those.
the next thing is a regular hair tie. You can just use one like this; it doesn't - it
can be colored if you want it to be, it doesn't matter.
("Bubbles" sound effect plays)
The last few things are optional.
So, the first optional item would be a Topsy Tail Tool. Now, this is just
a little tool - it's like a stick and it has a loop at the top this can be used
for pull through hairstyles. It does make it a little bit easier - it's plastic, but
you don't necessarily have to have it if you don't want to. That's why it's optional.
The next optional item would be a hair accessory - again this is optional. So if
you don't want to use one, you don't have to. The next optional thing would be
spray bottle with water. Now, you can use either water or a texturizing spray or
anything of that nature. Hair wax - anything like that to help if you need to.
I do have notes on my computer so that's
why I'm looking kind of to the side over here, but yeah.
You can use anything of that
sort if you have fly aways - if you have finer hair that tends to kind of frizz a
little bit; you can use that and it should be perfectly fine. The next thing
you're gonna need is bobby pins.
Now, this is again optional.
So, if you have a piece of hair that is flying out - sticking out and it won't lay
down for the life of you - can't you tried everything else,
you can obviously use bobby pins and that would be helpful. Or if you have
layers that can be helpful as well. This can work on wet or dry hair.
Typically if you have finer hair, it would work a little bit better if it was at least
damp, but again it is getting colder where I live. So, I'm not gonna wet my
hair, but if you - if it's you know - you're doing it in the summer time that is
perfectly fine. You can do that. The next thing is practice. This is not a
hairstyle that you're gonna nail the first time you try.
Simply because it is a little bit complicated and I'll explain that later.
Um, so, the main thing you can do is practice practice practice. So yeah I
think that's it. So, we're gonna go ahead and get started with the braid.
("Bubbles" sound effect plays)
So, the first step you're gonna do is you're gonna take your hair brush - I'm using
this purple one. It's actually a wet brush, but you can use whatever brush it
doesn't matter. You want to brush out your hair.
(Music)
And once you have made sure you have zero tangles in your hair,
you're gonna go ahead and do the parting of your hair.
(Bubbles sound effect plays)
So, first you want to start off with a side part like I have here.
And then from that you can - if you have side bangs that are long enough like you can
see mine are - or they should be - you can use your side bangs to do this
or you can leave them out. It's completely up to you it doesn't really
matter. I'm gonna try to include mine, so - but like I said it doesn't matter. So,
what you want to do is - like I said I'm gonna use my finger. So, I'm just gonna
basically part from the side part up here all the way down. And I'm only gonna
go to about the end of my eyebrow. So, not completely down to my ear.
You can go all the way down if you want I'm just not going to.
So, this is what the part will look like and you can get it - and try to get it as straight as you can.
So, it's about the end of my eye brow is where it ends.
Okay? So, now I'm going to grab a clip - you're also gonna need a clip.
I forgot to mention that, but you're gonna grab - you can either use a clip or a bobby pin.
Anything like that it doesn't matter. Um, or even another hair tie to clip this hair out of the way, but
I'm going to use a clip because it's easier and it keeps it secure.
So, what I'm doing here is just - I'm going to clip all of this hair so that it stays out of my way.
(Music)
(Bubbles sound effect plays)
So, once you have done that; you're gonna just take the rest of it -
(Music)
So, you just want to tie that up so it stays out of the way.
Now, you can go ahead and let this down.
so you can just take your clip out and then once you have done that you're ready to start.
("Bubbles" sound effect plays)
Now, if you don't want to do this right where your bangs start that is completely fine.
You don't have to you can start it lower. Like maybe right here if you want to.
It's completely up to you. So, I'm going to zoom you guys in.
Okay, so what you're gonna start off with is just a small section. Okay? And you can use your finger to part that off.
So, as you can see it's just a very small piece of hair.
Then what you're gonna do is you're gonna take that hair and split it in half.
So, now you have two different pieces.
So, you're gonna take the one by your face twist it over the one in the back.
Then - now that they're twisted you're going to put your finger - so you have two pieces still.
you're gonna put your pincher fingers is what I call them, but they're your index and thumb.
You're gonna put those in the middle of the two pieces twist them over and then pull the bottom piece through.
Then, pull it down to tighten the knot. Okay? I'll show you again.
So, you start with your two sections, you're going to take your front section - I'm going to label them.
So, this will be the front piece this one will be the back.
so I'm gonna take my front piece and cross it over my back strand.
Now that they're crossed, I'm gonna open it up just a little bit so I can put my fingers
through and I'm gonna twist it, cross them over, and then pull that bottom
strand through. Then, tighten it down.
Okay now, it's really important that you hold onto this really tight so that way it doesn't try to come undone.
That's really important for people with fine hair.
So now, what you're going to do is you're just going to add in a little bit of hair to the front and the same on the back.
Just add in a little section.
Now, you've added hair to both pieces, you're going to take the front section again cross it over the back piece.
Stick your fingers and let me get a better grip. There we go.
So, cross them stick your fingers through; kind of open it back up a little bit and then
cross
that piece and then pull the bottom one through and tighten it.
Then you're gonna do this until you run out of hair.
(Music)
And it's also okay if you don't use all of the hair that you sectioned.
I'm not gonna use this little bit and that's completely fine.
Also, if you need to after a little bit if you're ends kind of get tangled, you can kind of brush out the ends.
So now, once you have completed your braid - that's what it looks like; you're
going to basically continue the braid without adding in hair.
(Music)
Okay so, that's as far down as I'm gonna go.
And yeah, I know I have a little piece up there that's like sticking out strangely, but that's okay.
(Bubble Sound effect plays)
hair elastic and I'm just gonna tie it and the key to this is tying it a little bit loose
if you're gonna do a ponytail just because these can hurt when they
come out and they can rip your hair.
So, you should just be really really careful.
So, now once your braid is finished go ahead and let the rest of your hair down.
You can leave it down and pin this back if you want, but I'm gonna put it into a
side ponytail. So, to do that you're going to take your hair brush and go ahead and
re-divide your hair with the side part and bring - move your braid and then bring
all of this hair over to the side your braid is on.
(Bubble side effect plays)
(Music)
Okay so, once you've got all of it secured your hand, you're going to go
ahead and take your hair tie and secure the ponytail just like you normally
would secure a side pony. Okay now, you're going to take this part your ponytail
elastic and you're gonna pull it down just a little so there's a little bit of
slack. I'm gonna zoom this in.
(Bubbles sound effect)
What we are going to do now is we're going to flip it.
So, put your fingers through the back grab the ponytail from behind and pull it through the hole.
and then tighten it. And this is the hair do.
This is literally what it looks like. Again, I know I have a little piece - some
pieces sticking out up here and you can fix that if you want - If you have little
pieces sticking out right there you can fix it. So, um it's completly up to you what
you do with the rest of it, but this is the completed style. So, you have your
braid and it goes into a side ponytail flip. Like I said, it's really easy, really
cute, really simple. Um although, it will take a little bit of time to get used to
as far as doing it but you will get used to it I promise um it just takes a lot
of practice. So yeah. Make sure you follow me on Instagram, Twitter, my Facebook
