7 German Words USED CORRECTLY in English - Duration: 5:19.
Sometimes we do get some things right in English, too.
Hey everyone! I'm Dana and you're watching Wanted Adventure Living Abroad.
I've already made a video about some of the German words that are used differently in English.
So they have a slightly or sometimes really different meaning.
But today I want to look at some of the German words that exist in the U.S. with pretty much
the same meaning in English as in German
And first let's go for a pretty obvious one: gesundheit.
Yes, if someone sneezes in America you can say bless you or also gesundheit.
But, and I don't know maybe this is just actually a me thing, not necessary an American
thing, but just what I did...but in the U.S. I would often use gesundheit if the person
had sneezed multiple times in a row.

So yeah, that's how I specifically use gesundheit in the U.S., but I don't know if anyone
else does that. Or if it's just mean.
Another German word that I've seen more and more often creeping into the English language
is schadenfreude.
Schadenfreude is such an amazingly specific word.
It describes the feeling of pleasure at another person's misfortune, and it's becoming
part of the English language so much, that I've even seen puns and play on words being
made in English with the word schadenfreude.
I don't know what other people's standards are, but for me, if a language starts making
play on words with a word, then I consider it officially part of that language.
I guess if that word has also been added to some of the dictionaries, that would count
for something too.
But also play on words.
Kaput is another German word used in the U.S.
If something is broken we can also say it's kaput, but interestingly we actually spell
this word with only one T in English, while in German it's spelled with two Ts.
And yeah, I kept being so confused. Like, am I spelling this word wrong?
I don't know. I didn't know. And then I figured it out.
That in English it only has one T and in German it has two.
So I've probably spelled it wrong or flipped it, but that's okay.
Americans also talk about someone's doppelgänger, although you will often see this word spelled
without the umlaut over the A. And speaking of umlauts, of course, that brings me to the
word umlaut, which is also used the same in English and German.
Weltschmerz is another German word that is used in English, and honestly speaking I think
I've kind of been using this word a little bit incorrectly, actually.
Because weltschmerz literally means "world pain," I always thought that this word meant
that feeling of sadness that sometimes washes over me or even lingers for a while due to
what's going on in the world.
So basically the feeling that comes over me every time I check the news.
But actually, as I understand it now, the word means, like, a sad or heavy feeling when
looking at the actual state of the world and realizing that it doesn't match up with
your own idealized state of the world that you have in your head.
So the same general idea and maybe same overall feeling.
But coming from, I would say, a slightly different place.
And lastly, let's end on a little bit of a cheerier word: Wanderlust in German, wanderlust
in English.
In English wanderlust describes this desire to travel.
And while I believe it does mean the same thing in German, when I look the word up in
a German-English dictionary, and I look up wanderlust, I actually get the German word Fernweh.
So German speakers watching this, do you use the word Wanderlust?
And does it mean the same thing as Fernweh?

then you can breathe let go and you can even ask yourself things like do I

The world's first human head transplant has allegedly been performed on a corpse in an
18 hour operation which successfully connected the spine, nerves and blood vessels of two
people.
The operation was carried out by a team led by Dr Xiaoping Ren of Harbin Medical University,
China, who last year successfully grafted a head onto the body of a monkey.
Italian Professor Sergio Canavero, Director of the Turin Advanced Neuromodulation Group,
who has been working with the team, said they would 'imminently' move onto a living human
who was paralysed from the neck down.
He told that electrical stimulation of the nerves proved the operation on the corpse
had been successful, and that the two people had been completely attached.
British experts accused Prof Canavero of 'egotistical pseudoscience' but the neuroscientist said
details of the operation would be published in the journal Surgical Neurology International
within days.
He also announced plans to begin work on the first human brain transplants, which he claimed
could lead to 'immortality.'
"Everyone said it was impossible, but the surgery was successful," Prof Canavero told
a press conference in Venice.
"For too long nature has dictated her rules to us.
We're born, we grow, we age and we die.
For millions of years humans have evolved and 100 billion humans have died.
That's genocide on a mass scale.
"We have entered an age where we will take our destiny back in our hands.
The first human transplant on human cadavers has been done.
A full head swap between brain dead organ donors is the next stage.
"And that is the final step for the formal head transplant for a medical condition which
is imminent."
This has seen an early copy of the journal paper, which confirms that the first human
head transplant has taken place on two men who donated their bodies to medical science.
Describing the surgery, Prof Canavero said the operation was split into two parts.
In the first procedure, the blood supply of the donor body was attached to the brain of
the recipient.
Then the head was severed and the nerves and blood vessels attached to the new body using
a biological glue known as PEG.
When carried out on a live person the team plans to apply electrical stimulation to encourage
new nerve endings to form, before using virtual reality simulations to help the patient get
used to their new body.
Prof Canavero said they would take great care to ensure the larynx nerves were not severed
so that the patient would still speak with the same voice when they awoke.
"Undeniably this is huge," he said.
"We are wading into unchartered territory here.
It's like going to the Moon.
Apollo 11 was successful, so was Apollo 12, but then look what happened with Apollo 13.
"They called me crazy, a lunatic, Frankenstein.
But Frankenstein was a very ethical man by the way."
Prof Canavero shocked the world in 2015 when he said that he would be ready to transplant
a human head within two years.
Although Russian computer scientist Valery Spiridonov, 33, who suffers spinal muscular
atrophy, had volunteered to become the first head transplant patient, the team have since
said the first trial is likely to be carried out on someone who is Chinese, because the
chance of a Chinese donor body will be higher.
However Prof Canavero said his ultimate goal was to transplant a human brain, and envisaged
a future where people could live forever by transplanting their brains into younger bodies,
possibly cloned from themselves.
"The goal of China is to treat incurable medical conditions.
My goal is life extension, because I believe ageing is a disease which must be treated.
"I call it hetero chronic parabiosis - the putting together of two people of a different
age.
Scientists have already shown the rejuvenating benefits of injecting people with young blood.
"If you had a young, new body, it would be able to wash the old brain with young blood,
rejuvenating the brain repeatedly.
You could potentially live forever."
He told reporters he would be announcing details of his plans for the first brain transplant
within months.
However the scientific community reacted to the news with skepticism, claiming that a
head transplant operation could only be deemed a success after a paralysed human had survived
the operation and recovered.
Prof Catherina Becker, Professor of Neural Development at the University of Edinburgh,
said: "While there have been very encouraging developments in the regenerative medicine
field, in humans and all other mammals, spinal cord injury can currently not be repaired
and after a complete transection – function below the injury never returns.
"Actual success of a head transplant must be measured by long term survival of head
and body with the head controlling motor function."
Dr James Fildes, NHS Principal Research Scientist at the Transplant Centre, University Hospital
of South Manchester, dismissed the announcement as 'egotistical pseudoscience.'
"Unless Canavero or Ren provide real evidence that they can perform a head, or more appropriately,
a whole body transplant on a large animal that recovers sufficient function to improve
quality of life, this entire project is morally wrong," he said.
"Perhaps far more worryingly, this endeavour appears to revolve around immortality, but
in each case a body is needed for the transplant, and therefore a human needs to die as part
of the process.

Today's excercise, we are focusing on muscles of inner thigh and abdominals.
In our daily life, we don't normally use inner thigh muscles unless we aware of them.
However, those part tend to become chilled easily
and also it is the part where cellulites are developed.
Let's working on that area to say good-bye to cellulite!
OK, let' start.
To begin with, we are going to stimulate the inner thigh muscles.
Extend your right foot to the side.
Bring the left heel close to the groin.
Flex both feet.
Right toe is pointing the ceiling.
Take a deep inhale.
Exhale, walk your hands and fold the upper body forward.
If possible, reach closer to the floor.
Feel the deep stretch in inner thigh.
Slowly. Come back up.
Switch the leg.
Draw the right foot in, extend the left leg.
Flex both feet.
While folding forward, avoid toes pointing down.
Keep them pointing up to the ceiling.
Inhale, lengthen your spine,
Exhale, walk your hands forward.
Then, fold the upper body forward.
If possible, reach closer to the floor.
Take a deep inhale
Exhale slowly.
Place both hands under the shoulder and slowly come back up.
Now, lie down on your back.
From here, we are going to do 2 exercises.
Lift your legs up to the ceiling.
You could put your hands on the abs or along side your hips.
Draw your navel in to prevent your lower back from arching back.
Tap the toes 2 times,
then open the legs to the side as low as you can.
Tap, tap, open.

Repeat.
We are going to repeat this 20 times.

As you cross legs in small motions, lower down them in 10 counts.
At count 10, keep your legs slightly higher than the floor.
In the next 10 counts, bring the legs up as you cross them in small motions.
At count 10, legs are above the hips.
I just want to remind you that at count 10, keep your legs slightly higher than the floor.

welcome to king-size passion I am Mike Kern and I'm helping you to fill your life
with passion this is our second video in the series about developing self-esteem
everything you need to know and today we are talking about your weaknesses your
insecurities and how to accept it and even turn it to your advantage
maybe you're insecure about your relationship maybe you're insecure about
your job maybe you're insecure about something
you did in the past maybe you hurt someone maybe you're insecure if people
like you maybe you're insecure when you're talking to people maybe you're
insecure about what you want to do in your life maybe you're insecure about if
you will ever find your passion maybe you're insecure about your physical
appearance still think people find you unattractive but I can count me down
everybody has insecurities everybody struggles to accept them so you're not
alone even I have insecurities I'm a really small guy
I am so small one of my friends says all the time that I'm not small but I am
handy and does it hurt my feelings when somebody says something like that to me
no at least not anymore because I found a way how to accept my insecurities and
I will give you resolution now perspective and gratitude what do I mean
by that you are insecure because you have a big nose you are insecure because
you care what other people think of you you are insecure because you're small
stop bullshitting around there are people out there who doesn't even have
arms and legs there are people out there who have it much worse than you there
will be always someone who has it worse than you so be grateful for what you
have most of the people don't even realize what they have because they just
focus on the negative things focus on the things you have and be grateful for
them be happy that you have so much your life could be so much worse and when you
realize that you can be grateful for so many things you will accept your
insecurities maybe even forget but at least you will accept them and
learn that they are part of your life maybe you will learn to love them
fucking security doesn't be grateful if you cannot change it accept it and be
grateful for what you have and if you can change it change it when you
insecure about something do everything you can to change it when you think that
you too clumsy or too skinny then start to work out and eat healthy when you
think that you not self-confident and shy then work on your personality when
you think people don't like you then learn how to talk to people so they will
like you and when you cannot change insecurities about yourself then figure
out a way how to use it to your advantage when you're shy and not so
social person then you will spend a lot of time alone and use this time to
improve yourself to become better and even learn how to be social when you're
unattractive and not self-confident start to work even more on yourself so
people will think wow he's not pretty but he has such confidence and people
will love you for that figure out a way but you can use your security that is
drives you that it motivates you that it pushes you to your goals and I'm
becoming emotional again be creative find a way to use it to your advantage
most of the times you're just insecure because you care about what others think
of you the only opinion which counts about you is the opinion which you have
of yourself when you stop caring what people think if you actually can
concentrate on what you really want on your strengths on your own personality
so you have to expect that people won't like you and this is okay not anybody
has to like you when you can stop caring what people think of you you don't even
care about your insecurities anymore and you don't have to bother about what is
not good about you sometimes an insecurity is just a scream of your body
or your mind for improvement when you're really insecure about your personality
start to improving it when you really insecure about your body start to rock
out when you insecure but talk to people talk to
people and learn it when you really insecure about your relationship start
to rock on it and learn how to build a great relationship as you can see there
are so many ways how you can accept your insecurities the most powerful point is
just to be grateful for your half and use perspective to see that you actually
have so much to be happy for and you can even figure out a way how to use your
insecurities to your advantage and when you can change something about you then
change it to anything to improve yourself then you don't even have to
accept anything and stop caring what people think of you when you follow
those points you will be able to accept yourself completely before you can work
on your self-esteem you have to accept yourself completely how should you feel
really and confident when you don't even accept who you are so self-acceptance is
the first important step to build self-esteem this was the second part of
