My name is Sjoerd van Bilsen and today I am in Zama, Japan.
This is an old factory of Nissan, were they once made cars and today batteries.
But here you find the biggest collection of Nissans. This is the home of the Nissan Heritage Collection.
And guess what, I have a visitor badge. We are invited to see the collection.
<Nissan Mid-4 concept>
These are just a couple of cars of what's inside of the Nissan Heritage Collection.
Unlike Mercedes-Benz or Porsche, Nissan doesn't have a real museum.
Nissan just has a warehouse where they store all of their cars.
It's at the factory in Zama, where they build batteries for electric cars.
Normally, it is not open to the public. But Nissan has made an exception for me, and you!
Wow! Look at this!
I will show you all of the cars. And I will show you the cars, and the cars alone.
I want you to enjoy this stunning collection of cars that's on show here in Zama.
Skylines, Bluebirds, I see a Figaro which you still see on the streets, the Pao, the S-Cargo which I like a lot.
Nissan Silvia and of course the Nissan Skyline GT-R, and all those racing cars.
Let's start the tour!
<Datsun 14, 1933>
<Datsun 15>
<Datsun 16 Coupe>
<Datsun 17>
This is the oldest car in the collection, the 1933 Datsun 14.
It's a very small car. Let me just look up the specifications.
It measures 2,77 meters in length and it's 1,19 meter wide.
I think I will never see this car again in real-life !

<Datsun Bluebird>
This collection contains only special cars, but this one is unique.
This car is developed by Datsun in 1964. It was built for a theme park for children.
It is not a bumper car, but a car for children to actually drive a car.
The car has a 200 cc engine, positioned in the middle of the car.
When you look through the window, you see extra pedals.
Initially, you drove with an instructor.
When you drove very well, you were allowed to drive yourself.
It truly is a very special car.
And look at this, it literally just arrived by truck...
A Datsun Fairlady Z.
Of all cars which are displayed here, almost every car stil driveable.

Maybe you have heard of the Dutch car brand Max?
They built a car with different body styles.
You could turn one car into a coupe, station wagon and even into a convertible.
This Nissan EXA has the same principle. Now you see a stationwagon.
But you can remove the rear part and transfer the car into a coupe, convertible or even a targa with removable roofpanels.
This antenna is also remarkable. It's mounted at an angle...

In The Netherlands the police drove with Porsche-sportscar, in Japan the highway patrol had the Datsun Fairlady 240Z.
This car, naturally equipped with sirens and warning lights was used by the Japanese police. After 370.592 kilometres, it was time to retire...
Now it's is part of Nissans history.

This is a nice collection, different editions of the Fairlady Z.
The ceo of Datsun was in the United States and he visited the musical My Fair Lady.
He liked the name Fair Lady and he thought: Why don't I use Fairly as a name for a new model?
This is why Z and ZX models are called Fairlady in Japan. Even the current 370Z bears the name Fairlady.

This is the first Infiniti, the Q45.
This car is from 1991. The brand was introduced for the American market.
But this is a right hand drive car!
This car was also sold in Japan. Not as an Infiniti, even though it has the Infiniti badges. But no, this is a Nissan.
On the complete body there is no sign of Nissan, but it was sold through the Japanse dealerships of Nissan.

Pulsar. 2000 GTI-R. But when we hear GTI-R in Europe we think of only one car, the Sunny.
Here it is! A real hot hatch. 230 bhp.
You immediately recognize the GTI-R, thanks to its hood scoop.
A stunning car. It was a rally car for the public roads.
I remember that the car had a huge rear wing.
You almost never saw this car on the road. It was such an exclusive car.
What a wing, just look at that!
The first time I read about the GTI-R was in Autovisie Magazine.
I read the price of the car. I thought that the editor made a mistake. It was so expensive.
It costed in The Netherlands in at that time around 85.000 guilders (38.000 euros)! That was very expensive!
I have the brochure. So I can watch it more often.
But maybe I will never see it in real life again.
And look at the logo, it's got a P for Pulsar.
The sign says Sunny, but in Europe it was called 100NX.
A different name, but there are more differences between the Japanse Sunny and European 100NX.
This is a coupe with a steel roof. The 100NX had a targa-roof with two removable roof panels.
Nissan launched the 100NX in a time where there weren't many compact coupes for sale.
Honda produced the CRX... That was about it...
So Nissan Netherlands didn't know what to expect from the 100NX.
Honda sold around 400 units a year of the CRX.
Nissan Netherlands thought, we can do better.
"Because we have the newest car, we could sell a lot more," Nissan said.
Nissan was thinking about a sales figure of 800 100NXs a year.
When the importer showed the car to the dealers, the reaction was very positive.
Due to the positive reaction Nissan raised the order at the factory immediately to 1200 units.
Well, in the first year of sales Nissan Netherlands sold 3500 units of the 100NX. It was a huge success.
Even in this yellow color.

A nice collection of racing cars from Le Mans. One of them was driven by the Dutchman Jan Lammers (1998).
And it includes also the car which was Nissans first entry at Le Mans.
In 1986 Nissan entered the 24h of Le Mans for the first time.
This was the car, the R85V. It finished 15th overall.
The specifications: length 4.85 meters, engine 2.966 cc, 680 ps at 8000 rpm.
What a collection!

Goosebumps... This collection is simply fantastic.
This collection contains 300 cars, from 1930 till now.
Nissan has 500 cars, but there is no more space in this warehouse. So they are stored elsewhere.
Just look at the size of it...
The Heritage Collection is still growing. Loyal customers of Nissan offer their old car to the collection.
The Collection accepts all cars and parks those cars next to the others. Of some models there are more than one.
But don't think Nissan will sell those cars. No way.
Don't even think about it as an employee of Nissan. The management will fire you.
<Nissan GT-R of Usain Bolt>
Nissan is thinking about building a proper museum, but the factory can't find a good location.
It is a pity that this collection is stored in a closed warehouse. It is a unique collection, with models we don't even know in Europe.
Let's hope that Nissan will build a museum, so it can show its heritage to the fans.
Unfortunately, the museum will be built in Japan. So, as an European car enthusiastic it is difficult to visit the museum.
You have to see it... in real life.
Special thanks to Nissan Netherlands and the Nissan Heritage Collection Zama
