#34 - Perfection & Motivation - Duration: 4:45.

How to define perfection and how can it push us to self-surpassing?

To answer this question I think some pedantry is welcome.

Again we have "per" - I previously talked about performance.

. And "fectum" from the verb "faire" [to do], in latin "facere".

The word itself implies that we'll go through different states step by step.

This is perfection or rather tending towards perfection.

So we'd need to give us the means: a dojo, a teacher, other practitioners...

.give us the means to transcend our level.

"Trans" is "through", again, and it comes from "ire" - "aller" [to go].

Now, martial arts came up with different ways to motivate people.

This is a very important word: there is no practice of budo without the motivation

which generates the training, the wish to train, simply coming to the dojo.

Different Budos came up with a way to motivate:

Medals during competition can be a motivation.

Martial arts with no medals, that is to say with no real competition

- I think there is competition on the inside but no visible competition -

they're embarrassed and thus came up with the dans.

It can be a good motivation, to come to get dans.

Fame, for example, to be recognized and famous, as a student

or as a teacher.

But it's easy to admit that all these motivations remain external.

What is it that deeply motivates us, to come back to the question,

to make us look for perfection.

I come back, again and again, to my three basic principles:

Accuracy, beauty, efficiency.

To have these three notions, to work on them and try to perfect them.

Sometimes we perfect one and we feel that the others are subsiding.

We can be effective but we think we're less beautiful in the way we practice.

And so on.

Push these three cursors, try to improve as a whole, together.

To reach a balance between these three principles can be a motivation.

But then comes again, to be honest, the fundamental question of the fundamental meaning of practicing Budo.

Why practice Budo? I personally ask myself this question.

More than four decades of practice - but why am I doing that really?

And we come back to another question: I'm sure this is the Way to happiness.

And it necessitates we try to master beauty, efficiency and accuracy.

That's it.

In Japanese, a person that reached perfection is called "tatsujin".

We cannot say what s/he is, who s/he is.

Anyway I think, if we look at zen for example, that there is a balance.

I suggest a balance between these three principles.

And we've got to float somewhere like a cork in the middle of this triangle, like this.

And it also pushes from below.

So I'm forced to answer this question using metaphors.

I personally don't see how to answer it otherwise.

How My CLOTHES HAVE CHANGED in Germany! - Duration: 7:53.

How in the world did I make it through college without leggings?

Hey everyone! I'm Dana and you're watching Wanted Adventure Living Abroad.

The clothing that I wear has changed, I would say, in some ways quite dramatically since

moving to Germany, but one of the big reasons for that change is because I lived in South

Florida in the U.S., so I wore a lot of T-shirts, tank-tops, tube-tops, and T-shirt, tank-top

and tube-top dresses there, and here in Germany, I wear a lot of long-sleeve shirts, sweaters,

and the biggest, warmest jackets available.

But there are other ways that my style has changed that don't have so much to do with

the temperature difference or even the fact that clothing style has changed over the past

9 years.

But rather these changes have a lot to do with the influence that living in Germany

has had on my style.

For one, as I mentioned in the video on useless things that I brought to Europe and basically

never needed, in the U.S. I used to wear high heels quite often.

If I was going out for the evening, going to a nice restaurant, celebrating something,

there's a good chance that I was probably going to wear a pair of heels.

I moved to Europe, brought some of the heels with me, and wore them a grand total of

not very many times.

In the U.S. I basically drove everywhere, but now here in Germany I'm walking or trying

to balance on the U-bahn, not tip over, there are cobblestone streets, which I have enough

problems trying to walk on with flat shoes.

So yeah, I pretty much don't wear heels anymore just about ever and my feet definitely

thank me for it.

And in the U.S. if I wasn't wearing heels, I was probably wearing running shoes like

this, or maybe some nicer flats, a little bit fancier flats like this, whereas now I

love, love, love, love, love shoes like this.

These little low-top casual sneaker shoes.

I love them so much!

The kinds of pants that I wear has also changed.

In the U.S. pants that get a little wider at the bottom are pretty common.

I know that I haven't lived in the U.S. for around 9 years, but the last time I was

back I made a point to look at people's pants, and while, yes, I did notice more skinny

pants than when I left the country 9 years ago, I still saw a lot of people in the U.S.

wearing pants that got slightly wider at the bottom.

Not just jeans but also dress pants.

So yeah, in the U.S. all of my pants were like that.

They came out wider at the bottom.

Whereas in Europe, now, I almost exclusively wear skinny jeans and skinny pants.

They all come in tight at the bottom.

And I also started wearing pants of different colors.

I don't know if this fad swept through the USA too, whenever I went back to the U.S.,

I never noticed anyone wearing colorful pants, and when I lived there I certainly didn't

notice anyone wearing red pants or green pants, but in Germany they were.

Also guys. So everyone.

Everyone was wearing colorful pants, and so I took that on as well, and I started wearing

red pants and green pants and blue pants, and all different colors of pants.

Another big way that my fashion has changed, and yeah, this one does have to do with the

weather, but it's such a huge part of my look now so I want to mention it anyway:

wearing scarves.

When I bought my plane ticket to move to Europe 9 years ago, I owned one, single scarf.

And after my goodbye party in Florida, I owned three scarves because one of my friends gave

me these two scarves as a going away present.

So then I owned three. I moved to Europe with three scarves.

And now I have so, so many scarves. This is just a tiny look at my scarves.

I have so many scarves that I have trouble figuring out how to organize them all.

So if anyone has a clever way of organizing their scarves please let me know in the comments.

That would be much appreciated by me and Mr. German Man.

We don't know what to do with all my scarves. Thank you.

And also, the funny thing about scarves is that I've made a few videos wearing one

and then I've seen people commenting in the comments about how they love how I tied

the scarf, and I'm honestly so flattered, because when I first moved to Germany, I remember

Mr. German Man had to help me tie my scarves, because I always made it look like I mess,

I had no idea what I was doing.

I could just wrap them around my neck million times, and that was it.

That was my only move. Just keep wrapping.

And over time I just kind of found my own way of tying them, but it definitely was not

something that came naturally to me.

Another addition to my clothing lineup that did not exist in my wardrobe in Florida: leggings.

Now I love leggings. I wear them so, so, so, so much. In Florida my go-to was jeans.

But now it is definitely leggings.

I wear them all the time, and I don't know how I ever lived without them.

They would have been great in college. Leggings.

And lastly, the kind of bras that I wear has changed as well.

In the U.S., or at least in South Florida, I grew up feeling like everything in the world

around me -- TV, ads, billboards, and so much more, it was always telling me, it was screaming

in my face: bigger boobs are better.

And so in Florida I wore a lot of push-up bras, and they gave me that look that I wanted,

or the look that I felt like I was being told I needed to have, but they were so, so uncomfortable.

And not right away, but after living in Germany for a little while, I grew to feel more comfortable

about not wearing push-up bras.

The whole "your boobs have to be as big as possible" sentiment didn't seem to be pushed

in my face so much from all angles here in Germany.

At least to me, it felt like in Germany it was more like, you are who you are.

Big boobs, small boobs, whatever; you are who you are and that's okay.

At least that's the feeling that I've gotten here in Germany.

called the last Republicans Bush 41 and Bush 43 take direct aim at President

Trump calling him a blowhard and expressing concerns that he doesn't know

what it means to be US president CNN special correspondent Jimmy jangle sat

down with the book's author for an inside look at that incredibly candid

conversations former President Bush 43 told you when Trump entered the race he

thought he thought interesting won't last won't last won't last but when

Trump started to rise I think he became concerned because he saw this populism

of Donald Trump getting in the way of America's position in the world he gave

you rare insight though into his criticism of Donald Trump what did he

tell you one of the things he said was that one of the hallmarks of great

leadership is humility so when Donald Trump said I am my own

advisor Bush thought and this is a quote wow this guy doesn't know what it means

to be president well this is tone when he talked to you about Trump I think it

was restrained the bushes are very restrained and I also think that they

they realized they had a role to play as former presidents and they have to be

restrained they have to be dignified he weighed his words I think he did yes

President Bush 41 was a bit blunter he said that he thought Donald Trump had

quote a certain ego and then he told you point-blank he's a blowhard

he's a blowhard and he said I don't like him plain and simple and I'm not excited

about him a leader with this quote and and if you

look at the Bush family it makes perfect sense

Donald Trump is everything that the Bush family is not George Bush grew up

thinking about the greater good Donald Trump I think is is manifestly

narcissistic it's part of his brand and that brand is the antithesis of the Bush

brand how do you think these two men feel that Donald Trump is now the

standard bearer of the Republican Party I think it's pretty clear if you look at

their records and their views politically that I'm going to quote

George HW Bush they're not excited about Donald Trump being our leader that's not

a that's not a leap of faith that's pretty clear and I think the most clear

demonstration we get that recently is charlottesville the Bush's came out with

a joint tweet which they had never done in the past

condemning bigotry and anti-semitism and all the things that were on display in

Charlottesville among the white supremacist that was a clear betrayal of

American values and the bushes came out with that joint statement I think that

spoke resoundingly about the void and leadership that they were seeing from

the white house there are a lot of quotes from the bushes that are gonna

make news in in this book Bush 43 talks about whether Vice President Dick Cheney

had played an outsized role in his presidency something that gets talked

about all the time was was Dick Cheney too powerful and Bush 43 told you well

he was talking about the the neoconservatives in general and

specifically about Cheney and Rumsfeld and he said and I quote Cheney and

Rumsfeld never made one decision that's the quote that's the quote I understand

his frustration because at the time there was the perception that Dick

Cheney was the Acting President but in fact George W Bush had had a lifetime of

making bold decisions he has this preternatural confidence in himself

as a leader and if you talk to those around him they have confidence in his

leadership and so this notion that Cheney was

making the decisions is ludicrous when you started to write this book let me

guess the title was not the last Republicans when I set out to write this

in 2013 you know it was a very different time but but the last Republicans became

the right title during what has become the Trump here because well you know

george w bush himself said and in 2016 privately and to me you know i fear that

that i'll be the last republican president he confirmed that he confirmed

that to me and it wasn't just about hillary clinton becoming president it

was because donald trump represented everything that the bushes abhorred all

right Jaime gay gal joining us right now good to see Jaime so you know the bush

is offering very candid thoughts here on Trump but these are thoughts from then

during the campaign right but but in recent weeks we did hear candid thoughts

from Bush 43 so how have their thoughts you know evolved about candidate versus

President Trump you think right so first of all for context those the interviews

for this book were done during the campaign but they are standing by them

no one is saying that they change their mind in some ways this is a surprise

because they've been very careful about going on the record

on the other hand let's remember neither of these men voted for Donald Trump

President Bush 41 voted for Hillary Clinton President Bush 43 said none of

the above at the top of the ticket so I don't think it's a surprise big picture

I think they wanted to say these things and and they knew it was going to be out

there all right Jaime gang Gail thank you so the White House is now responding

saying quote if one presidential candidate can disassemble a political

party it speaks volumes about how strong a legacy its past two presidents really

had and that begins with the Iraq war one of the greatest foreign policy

mistakes in American history President Trump remains focused on keeping his

promises to American people by bringing back jobs

promoting an America first foreign policy and standing up for the Forgotten

men and women of our great country

hello everyone, today I'm in Chicago

I was going to say Boston

We can't see a lot

Chicago

I came 2 days ago already but I didn't vlog

It was raining, the weather was not so good

today it's better but cold

it's finally fall

So today we are..

October 15TH

I've started my travel month 5 days ago, October 1Oth

Since I left home, boston

I haven't say goodbye to my host family yet

I'm going to see them again

in 15/20 days

to say goodby and take my suitcases

because I have 4 suitcases

and then I'm going back to france

Today I'm visiting Chicago alone

before I was with a friend

from boston

he was also an au pair in the same city as mine

he was finish is travel month

in chicago

So now he went back in boston

to say goodbye to his host family

You can start your day with a good american breakfast

I went to corner bakery café

but there is a lot of others places too, more local

I really like this place in the US

Then my advice will be to walk downtown to look at the buildings

there is also free tours of the city

the really famous theater

you can also visit it for around 20$, at night

it's nice to take a beautiful picture

Personally I went down that same street, State St

there is a lot of stores

it's the perfect place to go find american stores

there is also a lot of department stores

You can also admire the unique architecture of Chicago

especially the subway in the air in the loop quarter

The popcorn store Garrett

is the place to be for popcorn, the is the specialty of chicago

and also the deep dish pizza from Giordano's

I recommend you to take the subway there

The round trip is 5$, there is also a day pass for 10$

the bleu line is going

to the O'hare airport 24H/day

from the top or the bottom it's

a really unique experience to live in chicago

If unfortunately you have a rainy day like me

I recommend you to go in museums

or in the chicago cultural center which is free

there is different exposition and really cool art

In front of the cultural center there is the millennium park

with this big open theater

in summer there is free shows

this is a really big place !

In the same park there is obviously the famous Bean

this is the symbol of Chicago and the most touristic place of the city

This is the moment to take a cool picture

I really recommend you to see it during day and night time

it's completely different

And when you look under it

the effect is really cool

and unique

If you go down the park, at grant park

there is a beautiful fountain

and near the aquarium, this is the best view of the skyline

I haven't took a video unfortunately

but this day it was a beautiful weather

the view is awesome

In chicago, there is no

ocean but a big lake, the lake Michigan

there is few beaches in the city

and also a pier

I've took a walk alone the shore

to the navy pier, don't go there when it's too cold

or to much wind

Chicago is not the windy city for nothing

There is of course a wheel

and the main building as souvenirs stores

and restaurants

This is the perfect place for a friend/family

lunch during summer

the view is also really nice

you can go back by walk downtown

to admire the buildings of the north

Chicago is the 4 biggest cities of the US, so there is a lot to see

this is a little summary of what you can see

Because the weather was bad during half my trip

The second day was so rainy, I have lost my day !

The third day it was so grey, like this

I have lost some time to visit the city,

Like I've say, this is a really big city

I haven't went to chinatown for example

I have seen the principal things

I really liked this trip so much !

Finally to finish, at the end of the day,

Do one of the towers of Chicago, I did Hancock Tower

there is a good view of the city

And also there is a fun activity to do there, I will show you after

I choose to do it at the end of the day because I can see

the view at day time, sunset

and night time

I saw 3 "view" of the city

this is the fun activity, it's 7$

You are leaning over the city

I havent done it but it looks like fun

Garlic gives you bad breath because it contains a chemical called allyl cysteine sulphoxide

or "alliin".

When a raw garlic clove is crushed or chopped, an enzyme in the garlic cells is released

that reacts in a matter of seconds with the alliin to produce a chemical called allicin.

This breaks down into lots of other chemicals and most of them are stinky.

Almost all of these chemicals are broken down further in your stomach and liver, but allyl

methyl sulphide is one that survives to be absorbed into the bloodstream intact.

This means that it can diffuse out through your lungs into the air you exhale for up

to 2 days.

Even brushing your teeth has only limited effect because the chemical is still in your

blood.

So that is why garlic gives you bad breath.
