Beginning Proofs Level 3

In the previous video we proved our first 2 theorems in geometry the right angles theorem

and straight angles theorem.

We can use previously proven theorems to prove new theorems in geometry.

The purpose of a theorem is to shorten your work in a proof.

Once you have proven a theorem, you can use it as a reason in later proofs.

Let's go over the next example to illustrate how this is done.

Given that angle A is a right angle and angle C is a right angle.

Prove that angle A is congruent to Angle C. Here we are provided with a diagram and are

given 2 statements about the diagram we are asked to conclude or proof that angle A is

congruent to angle C. Notice that in this example we are given the conjecture to prove.

We are also provided with the diagram.

All we need to do now is to mark the given information in the diagram and plan our argument

to prove the conjecture.

So let's go ahead and mark angle A and angle C as right angles.

Next we will prove the conjecture by using a two column proof.

Let's start with the given information, so we start with angle A is a right angle

and the reason is that it is given.

Next we write angle C is a right angle and the reason is because it is also given.

With these two statements we can now conclude that angel A is congruent to angle C. The

reason is because if two angles are right angles, then they are congruent.

Notice that this reason is essentially the right angles theorem that we proved in the

previous video so we can essentially say right angles theorem as our reason but you should

not use this shortcut until you have practiced various proofs since taking short cuts will

make it harder for you to learn the concepts of geometry and this ends the proof.

At times you may need to make assumptions in a diagram and this can be used as a reason

as you are proving a conjecture let's illustrate this with the next example.

Given the diagram prove that angle EFG is congruent to angle HFJ.

In this problem we are provided with a diagram and are asked to prove that 2 particular angles

are congruent.

Since we are provided with the diagram and no other statement is given we start our proof

by writing "diagram as shown" and the reason is because it was given.

Next we need to make an assumption about the diagram recall from the previous video series

that if 3 points are collinear then we can assume that they form a straight angle.

So the next statement we will make is that angle EFG is a straight angle the reason is

because it is assumed from the diagram.

In the same manner angle HFJ is also a straight angle because it is assumed from the diagram.

Finally having established that fact we can conclude that angle EFG is congruent to angle

HFJ because if two angles are straight angles, then they are congruent.

This is the straight angles theorem that we proved in the previous video and this ends the proof.

In some proofs you may need to make use of the properties of real numbers, variables,

and operations in your proof let's illustrate this with the next example.

Given that angle RST is 50 degrees, angle TSV is 40 degrees, and angle X is a right angle

Prove that angle RSV is congruent to angle X.

Here we are given 3 statements along with a diagram we are asked to prove that 2 angles

are congruent.

As always let's start by marking the given information on the diagram in this case angle

RST measures 50 degrees, angle TSV measures 40 degrees and angle X is a right angle.

Next we proceed with planning the argument.

Let's start by writing down the given information in this case angle RST measures 50 degrees

the reason is because it is given, also angle TSV measures 40 degrees and this is also given.

Since we are trying to prove that angle RSV is congruent to angle X we need to show that

angle RSV has the same measure as angle X. Notice that angle RSV measures 90 degrees

if we take the measurement of angle RST and add it to the measurement of

angle TSV we get 90 degrees.

So for our reason we write addition and write in parenthesis 50 degrees plus 40 degrees

equals 90 degrees to show which angles were added together.

Now that we have established the fact that angle RSV measures 90 degrees we can write

angle RSV is a right angle.

The reason is because of the definition of right angles in this case if an angle is a

90 degree angle, it is a right angle.

Now let's write the statements for angle X, we know that angle X is a right angle and

the reason is because it is given.

Finally we can conclude that angle RSV is congruent to angle X because of the right

angles theorem that says that if two angles are right angles, then they are congruent

and this ends the proof.

Alright and this ends the beginning proof video series keep in mind that this is only

the beginning when it comes to proofs in geometry we will be proving more complicated conjectures

as we continue going over the concepts of geometry.

In our next series of videos we cover divisions of segments and angles.

Geometry: Beginning Proofs (Level 3 of 3) | Examples - Duration: 6:43.

Hi, I'm Andrew Barker. This is "Modern Shakespearean Sonnet 18: Your

I want to steal another writer's boast,/ The one that what I've written on this page/

Will let you live as long as words can toast/ The beauties I set down to never age./

But this would be a promise I can't keep/ A braggart's claim that I can't guarantee,/

And not because of you, so near asleep,/ The failure of this claim is down to me./

Though I can hold the form he gave the world,/

I cannot weave each phrase in the same way/ And promise nothing special from these words/

Except I put them down for you today./ When Shakespeare made his

boast his boast came true./ However long this lasts, this is for you./

Mantisicle - Duration: 1:46.

Okay, I'm driving along, as you can see, Hamilton East - there's the KFC, Grey Street - and,

uh, I picked up this cola popsicle right before I left the house, took it out of the freezer,

unwrapped it, was eating it, you know, driving along, not paying too much attention

to the popsicle, and then there's a bloody...

PRAYING MANTIS on it!

A praying mantis on my popsicle!

Like, dude, where are you from?!

And that is not a safe place for you to be!

It's just really not.

Of course, talking about safety, driving along while videoing and narrating something is

probably not very safe either... but I just wanted to point out that - the sheer insanity

of this!

And ironically, I was just thinking about April Fools and pranks and things, and Mr

Mantis, I accept that you're probably not too familiar with the calendar used by humans,

but you've missed April Fools by a bit - whoops, roundabout, hang on - AAAGGHH!

Hi everybody!

Okay, cool. Sweet.

So, just - just don't, okay?

You're going to have to go out a window or something, because that is not a safe place

for you to be.

Watch what happens if you stay there - just watch, okay?

OM, NOM NOM NOM.

Oh, yeah, NOW you're retreating!

NOW you're going up the finger!

Not a really good place, eh?

What if I take another bite?

MmMmmmm!

Mm hmm!

Right up on the hand!

That's what I thought!

Alright, you are kind of clever.

I'm turning onto State Highway 1 now, so this is the end of my little video.

Bye bye.

Cura Connect: How to create a Cura Connect group - Duration: 1:36.

In this start up guide, we'll explain how to set up a new group in Cura Connect

Cura Connect is compatible with all models of Ultimaker 3

Before you start, make sure your 3D printer is connected to your local network

Cura Connect runs on the firmware of a single host Ultimaker 3D printer

The host delegates jobs to other printers in your group

Every printer you connect directly with Cura will automatically become the host of their

own Cura Connect group

To add a new host, go to the "Add Printer" wizard

Select your Ultimaker 3 printer from the list

We will call this printer "Group-Host"

and select "Add Printer"

A list will open, and all the Ultimaker 3 models connected to your network will be visible

Select your printer and click "Connect"

Navigate to the "Monitor" tab

Here you can view all printers present in the group

This group currently contains one printer

On the right side of the screen, there are two buttons you can use to navigate to the

Cura Connect control screen in the browser

Congratulations!

You have now successfully set up a Cura Connect group

When you are happy with the settings of you group, you are ready to start printing

Note: If you want to have a group of Ultimaker 3 and Ultimaker 3 Extended 3D printers, it

is advised to set up the Ultimaker 3 Extended as a group host

This allows you to slice for the extended build volume in Ultimaker Cura

If you want to know how to add more printers to your group, as well as how the Cura Connect

control screen works, please watch our other instructional videos

Now, there's a lot of advice out there on

how to make the most out of this holiday

season for your shop

but there's three tips that I think

aren't talked about enough

and that's what I want to cover

with you today.

Tip number one is all about

the way you promote

and market your products over that weekend.

And I know you're going to schedule posts on social

media. If you got an e-mail list you

probably going to send a newsletter to

your subscribers announcing your discounts

and your special offers,

maybe you own products

or whatever promotion you've decided to

run.

But there's something that I don't see enough

and that's really powerful;

is to actually give people

a reason to buy.

And I know that sounds really obvious

but not many people do it

and it makes a really

really big difference in your conversion

rates. The reason for that is that

as humans,

we like to be told what to do.

When you send an e-mail about your Black Friday

promotion you need to give them

a reason to buy because even though they

may love your products

and think that wow,

that's a good discount,

if they don't know exactly why they should

buy it they're probably won't.

Now what you have to remember is that

the Black Friday weekend is really the

start of the shopping season.

We're getting to Christmas

and people are going to have

to buy stuff

and to buy presents for their friends

and for their family for Christmas

and, you know, the holiday season.

But you have to remind that to

them. So you want to send them a newsletter

or you want to create one little image

per recommendation

and recommend product gifts

to them. So it could be you know oh

look at this necklace 30 percent off.

A great gift for your sister.

Or you know say 50 percent

off dad's Christmas presents

with Black Friday sale

or whatever it is that you can advertise,

really.

But try to make people think

about why it's a great idea

to buy their Christmas

present now while it's Black

Friday and try to explain to

them that this is great for their best friend.

This is great for their mom.

This is great for their daughter so that

they, yeah,

they have a reason to buy.

Tip number two it's all about

pricing.

You don't have

to run a sale on Black Friday

or Cyber Monday

or even Thanksgiving.

It's great if you can

but I don't want to do it unless

you know your numbers really well

and you're very clear on how much

discount you can afford to

give away while still making a profit.

So if you're not sure I want

you to go back to your pricing strategy

and to your drawing board

and really understand what

profit margin you have for each product

and for which one it makes sense to

have a sale and for which one

it doesn't. Now unless you,

you know, you actually want to get rid of some stock

then that's fine

but please don't feel

the pressure of having to do a big discount

because everyone else has

unless you know that it's actually

still making you money.

Even a discounted item

should be making you money.

I know it sounds really obvious

but trust me I work

with many makers

and most of them aren't clear on

the profit margin they're making on each product

which means that making a

sale happen can be actually very

dangerous and detrimental.

So it's really important that

you know exactly how the price

of your product is broken down

so that you're really confident

that selling those items at this discounted

price makes sense for you

and you're not just going to,

you know, be working like crazy

building up some stock

and shipping some products for not

much return.

So make sure that you're clear

with your pricing strategy

and don't feel like you have to discount

everything in your shop because your

competitors are doing it.

My last tip is about

paid ads and they are wonderful.

I do think that paid ads are a

great, great way to reach a wider

audience, get people to your shop

and turn them into the customers.

Now I want to give you

a couple of tips

here regarding ads

because although I think

they're fabulous, I think you shouldn't

be using them in a few cases.

The first one is if you are

not experienced at all

with Facebook ads

or Pinterest ads or any sort of paid ads,

don't start on Black Friday unless

you get help from a professional

or you have time to invest into

training and doing some experiments

beforehand.

The reason for that is because Black Friday

is really competitive

which means that ads are more expensive

and I don't want you to test

waters with paid ads

with the small budget that you have

on Black Friday because it's actually

a very, very competitive,

difficult weekend when it

comes to using paid ads.

Another situation where I

don't want you to be using paid ads on Black

Friday weekend is if

you're not clear

with what your conversion rate

is. I don't want you to start bringing

paid traffic to your shop

if you don't know for sure that

this traffic is going to convert into

sales.

So if you don't really have numbers

on that, if you don't track conversion rates

in your traffic it's probably

not the best to test that again

on Black Friday because you could be paying

a lot for ads to be sending

traffic to your site

and then that traffic not converting into

a sale.

That's pretty much just money you put out of the window.

I'm not saying

that's for you not to scare

you of using paid ads because

there are great

and I do think that if you're ready

and if you know that your

conversion rate is reasonable,

if you have experience

with ads or some help in some

way via a professional again

or some training,

than hundred percent go for it

because it's a great opportunity

but please be cautious

with it as well.

Thanks for watching this video.

I hope that those few quick tips

helped you or at least got you thinking

in a different way about Black Friday.

Learn English with subtitle everyday-Entrepreneurs is great - Duration: 8:13.

Great Britain is a country full of bright business ideas,

and the people behind these ideas are great entrepreneurs.

Through hard work, risk and dedication,

they've become some of the most successful people in the world

and I'm off to meet a few of them.

Oxford is home to one of the world's greatest entrepreneurs,

Sir Richard Branson.

He's one of the best-known faces of business in Britain and Britain's fourth richest citizen.

Wonder where I am on that list..

Richard Branson's success started when he opened his first record shop in Oxford Street,

London, in 1971, and he never looked back.

His success rocketed from launching his own record label,

Virgin Records, to creating the hugely successful Virgin Atlantic Airways,

and he's now worth an estimated 4.2 billion dollars.

I've been lucky enough to be invited to Richard Branson's home and I'm really excited about it.

I'm hoping to find out the secret of his success.

Sir Richard, you are one of the world's greatest entrepreneurs, not just in Britain.

How have you achieved this?

Well, by having a blast, having a lot of fun,

trying to create ventures that really make a difference to other people's lives,

not being afraid to give it a go,

sometimes falling flat on my face, sometimes succeeding.

So in your eyes, what makes a good entrepreneur?

An entrepreneur is somebody

who sees a gap in the market and feels that people are not being treated well,

and gets in there and fills that gap.

An entrepreneur is somebody who,

you know, believes in what they're doing 100%,

who acts with integrity,

who realises their reputation is all they've got in life

and sets about to create a great brand.

Richard's entrepreneurial spirit has led to Virgin's success and he's not alone.

Britain is a great place to do business.

Any advice for me?

Don't try to do everything yourself.

You know, try to find people who are better than you.

Learn the art of delegation early on.

Make sure that all the people

who are working for you have fun

in what they're doing because 90% of your life seems to be spent at work,

so make sure it's enjoyable,

and screw it, just do it. Just get on with it.

London is Britain's business capital.

Hundreds of entrepreneurs have set up their high-flying businesses here.

Whether commercial,

retail or tourism, Britain is the place to be.

There are some amazing small businesses popping up all over Great Britain.

This is Yarm High Street in the north-east of England

where two sisters are really making their mark on the worldwide fashion scene...

and they've only just entered their 20s.

Let's go and say hello.

Hello, Rock 'N Rose. Emily speaking.

Emily and Jess started making jewellery from their mum's garage

when they were just 15 years old.

Today this British vintage-inspired brand is worn by celebrities,

trend-setters, and sold around the world, and their profits are booming.

This is their own studio where they make most of the jewellery.

There's no stopping these young entrepreneurs.

And I want to know what the secret of their success is.

Hi Richard! Welcome to Rock 'N Rose… Come on in…

Ladies, tell me. How has the business started from nothing to all of this?

Well, we started back in 2007,

and it really started as more of a hobby,

part-time, a way of making a bit of cash really

and it kind of grew exponentially from there.

How do you feel when you see your jewellery in magazines and being worn by celebrities?

Sometimes you've got to pinch yourself to really realise

how well we're doing and how many magazine features we are getting.

Do you think Great Britain is a good place for entrepreneurs?

Definitely. I think there's a lot of help and advice available out there.

I know we had a business advisor from Business Link,

the government organisation,

and they were invaluable to us, weren't they?

And I think there's lots of websites

and there's lots of information out there to help people in Great Britain with entrepreneurship.

Some companies come from abroad to set up in Great Britain, too

In fact, more overseas businesses choose to set up here in Britain

than anywhere else in the world.

But, when it comes to British success,

this next businessman is one of the best…

Bannatyne's health club in Darlington is owned by Duncan Bannantyne,

one of Britain's most successful entrepreneurs,

and I'm hoping he'll help me make my first million…

well, I can dream!

Duncan has also become something of a TV celebrity

and I can't wait to meet him.

Duncan Bannatyne is a multimillionaire.

He's the proud owner of 61 health clubs,

3 hotels, 28 day spas and even a bar…

and the entire empire of the entrepreneur was built through sheer hard work.

You're very successful now, but how did your career begin?

My career began when I was 29.

I was on the beach - I was a beach bum in Jersey.

I was just enjoying life, had no money, no bank account.

I worked in a bakery for a year

and I was 31 years old and I would finish working in a bakery,

go to the car auction, buy an old car, do it up, sell it for a profit,

and 2 weeks after we bought our first house,

I saw an ice-cream van coming through the auction.

I decided to buy it and start a business.

In what way is Great Britain a nation of entrepreneurs?

Great Britain has got a great entrepreneurial spirit

and it's coming out quite a lot now since television programs like The Apprentice and Dragons' Den.

Entrepreneurism is about working hard,

building a business, but more importantly enjoying that and enjoying life.

So if I was to set up business, what advice would you give me?

If you set up a business, my piece of advice to you would be to work hard,

make it work, and really, really enjoy it.

Glad you mentioned that, Duncan, because I've got an idea for a start-up company.

I was just wondering if you'd like to come in and invest and...

I'm out.

You haven't heard the idea yet so...

I know. I'm out.

That's a little harsh.

Well I couldn't leave without using the facilities, could I?

That's enough of that.

Well, I've met some of Britain's greatest entrepreneurs,

and it's left me feeling very inspired. In fact, I'm ready to take on the world.

Come on!

It's this way.
