Hey there, over the past couple weeks I've been talking about how weak the US Congress
has become.
I've also spent less time than I should talking about the accelerating horror that
is the crisis in Yemen.
Today I'll point out just how deeply these two things are connected.
The world is full of difficult problems.
Yemen is not a difficult problem.
Saudi Arabia is strangling the country, putting millions in danger of starvation, and the
United States is helping them do it.
The US government could stop it tomorrow, and save thousands or possibly millions of
lives.
Two presidents, one out of political calculation, and one out of an inability to see the world
complexly, signed us up and kept us in this project.
It is not a subtle, easily hidden project.
Real military assets, from intelligence to US military refueling planes are being used
to send Saudi and UAE bombers to kill children.
If we were primarily fighting ISIS or Al Queda here, I'd probably still be bitching about
it, with little hope of correcting the problem.
But we're not fighting Al Queda in Yemen.
We're fighting Al Queda's sworn enemies.
There is no legal authority for what's going on here.
No Declaration of War.
No plausible way to fit this under the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force.
Yet it continues.
It seems as if there are no people of principle or power left in the US Congress.
Our congresspeople are supposed to be the ones who rein in our power-mad presidents.
It's congress that's supposed to do the actual work of governing.
Once upon a time that was true.
And I don't mean 100 years ago.
As recently as the 1980s Congress still had the power to tell presidents no.
In 1979 the left wing Sandanista movement took power in Nicaragua.
The Reagan administration decided that the removal of this government was a priority,
so they started funding a bunch of rebel groups, known as the Contras.
Congress thought it was a bad idea.
So they stopped it.
I tend to agree with Congress on that one, but that's not the point.
The point is that as recently as 30 years ago, Congress had the power to slow down a
foreign war it disagreed with.
Let's compare the two situations.
In Nicaragua, Reagan could plausibly defend the Contras as brave freedom fighters.
We now know quite well that they were a bunch of murdering terrorists, but their supporters
could deny it back then.
The Contras were a diverse bunch of non-state actors, and any evil they committed could
be denied or blamed on someone else.
There's no denying what is being done to Yemen, by Saudi Arabia, a powerful, unitary
state, with US support.
Nicaragua was largely a covert operation.
Congress actually had to tighten up its blocking of funds to the Contras multiple times.
It was slippery and under-the radar by design.
The War in Yemen isn't even covert.
The US military is using large expensive refuelling planes to keep it going.
Most importantly Nicaragua was part of a decades long existential conflict.
I'd argue that it wasn't a good way to fight the Cold War, but it fit the fears of
the time.
In the late 1940s it really did look like the Communists could take over the world.
Rational people, and the US public in general, thought that losing the cold war was a real
threat in the 1980s as well.
The CIA's job was fighting communists, and most thought that's what they were doing
in Nicaragua.
Yemen isn't in service to anything really, other than arms sales.
So to sum up, back in the 1980s, in Nicaragua, Congress was powerful enough to stop US participation
in a war that was easy to ignore, arguably on the side of the good guys, and in service
to a decades long fight for the continued existence of the United States and its way
of life.
That took a lot of courage and power.
In 2017, in Yemen, Congress can't get it together to stop a war that is evil, pointless,
public, and helpful to Al Queda, which is supposedly the threat we've been fighting
for the past 15 years.
Congress doesn't just need to stop the war in Yemen because it's the right thing to
do.
Congress needs to stop the war in Yemen to preserve any self respect at all.

Obama Spending Costs Revealed, Over $114 Million in Vacations and Hillary Campaigning. - Duration: 4:09.
Obama Spending Costs Revealed, Over $114 Million in Vacations and Hillary Campaigning.
Former President Barack Obama infamously spent large amounts of taxpayer dollars on vacations
and family outings, but until recently, an exact amount was not available due to refusals
by certain groups to disclose their records.
However, a Freedom of Information Act request and subsequent lawsuits filed by Judicial
Watch resulted in the disclosure of U.S. Air Force and the Secret Service documents showing
that the Obamas spent $9,028,346.90 on non-work related travel.
When added to the previously reported tab of $105,662,975.27, the total cost of personal
travel expenses during Obama's presidency amounted
to $114,691,322.17.
These additional records showed that over the course of just one weekend in February
of 2014, Obama family vacations cost the Secret Service $272,192.91.
Those costs included Michelle Obama's annual trip to Aspen with daughters Sasha and Malia,
which amounted to $6,970 in air/rail expenses, $5,614.99
in car rentals, and $76,078.30 in hotels for a total of $88,663.29.
Meanwhile, the former president was on a golfing trip to Palm Springs, which cost $10,951 in
air/rail travel, $10,166.79 in car rentals, and $162,411.80 in hotels for a total of $183,529.62.
The records also revealed how much taxpayer funding went toward campaigning for 2016 presidential
candidate Hillary Clinton.
In fact, during the campaign, the former first lady made two trips to North Carolina to stump
for the Democratic candidate.
For both trips, she took a C-40C military jet, which operated at $5,312 per hour, racking
up an Air Force bill of $40,902.40.
The records also indicated that during his second term, Obama spent more than $7 million
in taxpayer money to fly to his hometown of Chicago.
And, unfortunately, his taxpayer-funded trips did not end with his administration.
In fact, post-presidency, Obama has spent nearly $2 million in taxpayer money on travel
expenses, according to the Secret Service documents.
The details of those trips, however, were redacted due to concerns regarding "privacy"
and "law enforcement."
Judicial Watch had to sue for these records after the Air Force and Secret Service did
not respond to its public records requests in time, as required by law.
The organization's president, Tom Fitton, criticized both government groups for their
failure to produce the information.
"It shouldn't require federal lawsuits to…prod the Secret Service and Air Force
to produce information about the costs of presidential travel—whether the travel is
necessary or not, it's a massive amount of money," he said in a statement about
the report.
"We will continue to monitor this spending while taxpayers continue to pay the bills
for presidential travel."
Taxpayers shouldn't have to foot the bill for travel that isn't necessary to carry
out the duties of the presidency.
With an insurmountable national debt already burdening future Americans who haven't even
been born, our leaders should be cautious about overspending, especially for personal
reasons.
What do you think about presidents using taxpayer money for vacations and travel?
Please share this news if you're appalled at how much taxpayer money former President
Obama spent on vacations and traveling.

What happens when I try to talk race with white people - Duration: 3:26.
RENI EDDO-LODGE, Author, "Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race": When
somebody tells me that they don't see race, I say, I mean, that's fine.
You know, you can choose not to see the sky, but it exists.
I'm told I was 4 years old when I turned to my mom and I said, well, you know, when am
I going to turn white?
I was consuming and engaging with media and culture around me, a lot of cartoons, a lot
of kids TV, comics, et cetera, et cetera, and all of the good people were white.
And I considered myself to be a good person.
I realized at that early age that to be white was to be human.
I was attempting to discuss race in white-dominated circles and really getting nowhere.
I wrote a blog post.
I titled it, "Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race."
Let's say we were having a broad conversation about inequality.
As soon as I tried to raise the topic of race, there was almost an immediate clamp-down,
shutdown, denial from my conversation partner.
They tried to find ways to convince me that, absolutely, no, race had nothing to do with
it, that actually I had a chip on my shoulder, and that, why was I trying to make everything
about race?
I actually decided to have a conversation with a person who I can now confidently say
is probably is a white anti-racist, a white critical anti-racist.
And I spoke to her about her journey.
And I said, well, what's led to you being somebody who is so aware of how race shapes
inequality?
She said that a lot of her defensiveness, initially, when it came to these conversations
about race was a fear a being wrong, a fear of -- she said a lot of it was to do with
her ego, a fear of being implicated in existing inequalities, a fear that she actually wasn't
doing enough.
I know that I have not spoken out in the past, for fear of losing a job, or losing a friend
or losing a space in a house share, because, when you discuss race in the conversation,
you become the troublemaker, you become the problem.
I dedicated a whole chapter in the book to discussing intersectionality.
And it's really from the perspective of my doomed encounters with white British feminism.
And they were really doomed, because I was surrounded by very nice white middle-class
women who just didn't want to hear about race.
And I was told I'm splitting the movement, I'm being divisive, et cetera, et cetera,
et cetera.
And that was really a galling time for me, because I don't really have the option of
separating these two issues.
In Britain, power is still very white here.
Black and minority ethnic people are about 14 percent of the population, but that definitely
is not reflected in the corridors of power, in who shapes culture, who shapes politics,
who shapes the arts.
No one's asking the gatekeepers to examine their own prejudices and ask, well, why aren't
you recruiting people who are not like you and not from your background?
I heard a great quote, and I can't remember who said it.
But the person said, you know, you can't ask me why I haven't been invited to the party.
You have to ask the host.
My name's Reni Eddo-Lodge, this is my Brief But Spectacular take on talking to white people
about race.

DIY Cute "Ugly" Holiday Sweaters! // Under $15 & EASY NO SEW Option! - Duration: 2:58.
Since tomorrow is December I wanted to share my favorite holiday tradition with you. Every year my sister
and I do holiday themed ugly sweaters, so this year I came up with three new ideas I've never done before.
I decided to sew all of mine because I wanted to have a cleaner edge
But you could definitely just use hot glue or fabric glue to put all the pieces together
So to start out I drew my design
on a piece of paper then I cut out the shapes from my fleece as a
Tip if you're sewing it's easiest to sew down the parts that are on top of the main design first like the eyes
And nose and then sew the main design on but if you're gluing it doesn't really matter
I like to use pins when I'm sewing to help keep the design centered and also keep it in place
So I use these pins to also pin back a part of the head to put the sequins underneath the design to kind of hide
The edge and then I just used some jewel embellishment glue to glue it all together so using that same glue
I made the word design that I wanted and then I just went along and used that same glue to glue all the words down
This design is a lot like the last one so I used the same
process of cutting out a piece of paper and then cutting the shapes and sewing them down first before the entire design the ears are
A little bit special though because I wanted to give a folded over look so I actually made a little slit where part of the
Ear could be in front of the head and then part of the ear could be behind the head
So I sewed everything all down and again
It would be easy to glue all of these pieces
but another tip is to put a piece of paper in between the front and the back so that you don't catch the back when
You're sewing and or glue doesn't actually get to the back as well
I forgot to film myself doing the sequins
But I actually meant to make the words smaller so that they fit when my arms were down
So another tip is that you can learn from my mistake and keep in mind what the sweater will look like on since I did
Mine laying flat and I forgot to think about that.
Lastly, I just added some black puff paint to paint on the wrinkles in my Pug
I wanted to do a more simple design too, so I thought this was kind of a cheeky fun one
it would be the easiest to glue but I found that it was the most difficult to sew because of all the turns in the
leaves so my strategy was to pin everything down and then sew right on top instead of sewing each individual piece and
Lastly remember to wear it when you're deciding where to glue the Hollies so that you get them in the spot that you want
The winner of last week's giveaway is Tiffany!!!!
I put everyone's usernames that entered into an Excel spreadsheet, and then used a random number generator to pick

Gawura School - Our Unique Story - Duration: 1:51.
On day one the children were the ones who had the most courage
and the magic happened after that.
Gawura is an aboriginal school within a school in the City of Sydney CBD.
The focus is on numeracy and literacy skills and development of that but it's also
the opportunity to interact with other students where you already have a
historical culture of education and you put our students in there where they can
feel that and experience that culture then you can almost guarantee the
outcomes that you require and I'd like to see all Australian children be
offered the same opportunity through the educational systems that
we have in this country.
It's important for us to encourage our parents to be a part of their child's
learning and I think that's one of the hallmarks of what we have seen here is
the support from mum and dad for their children's education.
Gawura's got a fantastic success rate where we've got eight of our students currently in
university which is such a great impact for their community as well as
their families and themselves and if other private schools we're able to pick
up this kind of model that'd be amazing because these kids are getting great
education opportunities and they are the leaders for the future.
There are many ways that people can be a part of the future of Gawura which is through
volunteering or just contacting us. We're open to new opportunities to support our
students in different ways.

Something Huge Has Just Gone Missing From Trump's White House And People Are FURIOUS About It - Duration: 4:43.
After eight years of the White House being closed to the public for tours at Michelle
Obama's disgusting demand, President Donald Trump immediately opened the "People's
House" back up to the people as soon as he took office.
This is special all year round, but especially at Christmastime as Americans come to celebrate
the season and see Melania Trump's stunning Christmas decor plan for themselves.
The Trump's aren't just spending their first Christmas in office, they are also celebrating
the end of an incredible first year and an end of the Obama era.
However, it's been discovered that something huge has gone missing from the White House
during the hustle and bustle of this busy time of year and people are furious about
it.
The White House looks a lot different today than it did this time last year when the Obamas
were living in the place.
Trump's predecessor abused the presidential position and honor of living in this historical
house, for his own gain, while the former first lady took advantage of the status to
live out her dream of being a socialite and become best friends with rappers and their
wives.
Although Michelle shut down tours to "peasant" citizens, she and Barack hosted a number of
events for their racist celebrity events and acted like rap stars themselves.
The Obamas basically desecrated this American monument with Barack's un-American presidency
and his disgusting parties that you had to either be black or a rapper to be invited
to.
The rock star attitude and disrespect for the highest position in the land was humiliating
and infuriating, but his supporters celebrated these unacceptable soirées as the "change"
that Obama brought to the nation.
However, now that Trump is in charge and he's brought class back to the White House, liberal
Obama lovers are furious over what else he's removed that hasn't been recognized until
now.
Elle previously praised the Obamas for their Black Entertainment Television (BET) party
they hosted before leaving the White House, despite Barack and Michelle going full-ghetto
during the racist all night rager.
The White House has hosted many fancy affairs full of formalities and buttoned-up attendees.
When BET came over to throw a celebration for the Obamas, however, the President and
First Lady LET LOOSE.
The event happened on October 21–before the madness–but aired last night, November
15.
"It's with a little bit of bittersweetness that this is our final musical evening as
President and First Lady–it's gon' be alright," Obama told the audience.
It was a star-studded evening including hosts Terrence J and Regina Hall, speakers Samuel
L. Jackson and Jessie Williams, and performances from Usher, Common, Michelle Williams, Janelle
Monáe, and more.
Obama joked in his opening remarks at the party where he finally felt like the cool
kid when he said, "There will also be no twerking tonight–at least not by me.
I don't know about Usher."
Obama couldn't help himself when the beats started thumping and he got a little ghetto
groove in as seen here:
It's hard to see that and realize this is who the president of the most powerful country
in the world was for eight years.
However, that's just a bad memory now that he's out and the Trumps are in and took
out the trashy parties when they arrived.
BET, Jay Z, Beyonce, and a long list of other stars who shared the same racist values as
the Obamas partied all year long in the People's House that was closed down the "regular"
American people, but are now nowhere to be found since Trump won't let them in.
In fact, he's making an all new guest list for his Chirstmas parties this year and checking
it twice, crossing off who has been naughty, not nice, such as the fake news network who
loves to hate the president.
"President Donald Trump on Wednesday suggested boycotting CNN after it announced it would
not be attending the White House Christmas Party," Politico reported.
"'Great, and we should boycott Fake News CNN.
Dealing with them is a total waste of time!' the president wrote online in a retweet of
Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders' tweet praising CNN's decision to not attend
the White House Christmas Party."
"CNN said Tuesday that the network will not be attending the party, adding that 'in
light of the President's continued attacks on freedom of the press and CNN, we do not
feel it is appropriate to celebrate with him as his invited guests.'"
Trump can and does do what he wants no matter who it offends and has every right to respond
to CNN in the way he did after they disrespected him.
He is not a president who panders to anyone and it only concerned with making America
great again and did so when he let citizens back into the White House and kicked the racist,
disrespectful rappers out that Obama only partied with.

Backstabbing Authorities Just Began Confiscating Guns For Insane Reason – Met With All Out WAR - Duration: 5:00.
The crackdown on gun control had come to a screeching halt once Donald Trump took office,
but that didn't stop Democrats from getting their way.
Without warning, gun owners are now waking up to horrible news about their Second Amendment
right which has just been incredibly infringed upon in a way that's beyond unconstitutional.
To control people's right to their own safety and property is at the top of liberals'
list of what's most important to them to regain son semblance of power.
As such, they find any and every loophole they can to usurp citizens' rights that
they don't like.
Sneaky liberals plotted against Republicans and surprised everyone with what they were
able to pass through the night, forcing law-abiding Americans into confiscation or face jail time.
The old saying goes that "nothing good happens after midnight" and that's certainly the
case as people law-abiding gun owners in Hawaii are getting bad news about their guns that
they are going to have to give up for the most asinine reason yet.
The tyrannical leadership in this state has just officially made weapons confiscation
a reality for those who legally and rightfully purchased their guns.
The Daily Caller reports:
Hawaiian authorities have asked medical marijuana users to "voluntarily surrender" firearms
due to their medicinal status.
This may mark the first time a law enforcement entity has moved to confiscate guns from cannabis
patients.
Marijuana users in Honolulu are expected to turn over all firearms and ammunition to the
state within 30 days of receiving the notice, according to a letter signed by police chief
Susan Ballard, reported the website Leafly.
The state's first medical marijuana dispensary opened in August, but federal law prevents
patients who ingest cannabis from owning a firearm.
Marijuana is still categorized as a Schedule I drug by the government and is considered
in the same league as ecstasy and heroin.
Twenty-nine states and Washington, D.C., have passed laws to legalize cannabis for medical
or recreational use, but the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) issued a letter
in 2011 saying there will be no exceptions for weed users with regard to gun ownership.
The agency stated:
Any person who uses or is addicted to marijuana, regardless of whether his or her State has
passed legislation authorizing marijuana use for medicinal purposes, is an unlawful user
of or addicted to a controlled substance, and is prohibited by Federal law from possessing
firearms and ammunition.
– ATF The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals heard arguments
in September 2016 against laws prohibiting medical marijuana patients from owning a gun,
but unanimously ruled in favor of the government.
The restrictions did not infringe upon patients' second amendment rights because cannabis was
found to cause"irrational or unpredictable behavior," the panel said.
This new wave of unconstitutional control comes after the liberal state of Oregon created
a different way to force legal gun owners to forfeit their weapons or face jail time.
Second Amendment watchdogs at 2A News, explains the bill and the government's gross overreach.
On Wednesday, Oregon Governor Kate Brown signed into law a Democrat-sponsored gun confiscation
bill, permitting Oregon judges to order guns to be confiscated under an "Extreme Risk
Protection Order", based on hearsay evidence, and before the gun owner is permitted a hearing
to challenge the order.
The law is based on Oregon Senate Bill 719 and was passed by Oregon Democrats despite
widespread condemnation by constitutional scholars and gun rights groups.
All but 4 Democratic senators voted in favor of the bill, while every Republican senator
but one voted against the bill.
The sole "token" Republican voting for the bill, Sen. Brian Boquist (R-Dallas, Oregon),
claimed the law would "reduce veteran suicides", and it was under that noble-sounding purpose
that Democrat legislators steamrolled the bill through the legislative process.
Paul Phillips, President of Oregon Gun Owners, noted the hypocrisy and the underlying purpose
of the bill.
The bill, he says, will do little to prevent 'suicides'
What it will actually do, under the guise of 'suicide prevention', is deprive Oregon
gun owners of their legal rights under the second amendment.
Gun confiscations, he says, will be "based on hearsay evidence alone, and the firearm
owner is not [even] privy to a fair trial."
This is liberals' systematic and sneaky approach to total and complete gun control.
If they take this right away step by step and piece by piece, as seems to be the case,
it won't be long before this right granted Americans in the Constitution is totally erased.
Democrats will do absolutely everything they can to disarm Americans and won't stop until
they have made a sitting duck out of every citizen in this country.
